What I want to do is take a look at what I would suggest some of our more advanced students would do and how to use this as a tool. So one of the cool things about soundcloud as you’ll see is that there’s a way that you can go in and you can annotate audio clips.
So what you’ll see is here is a clip by cindy tss, red, hot chili peppers and basically, let’s go into the the adventure club remix. So if you take a look at this all these little slashes here, those are areas where somebody that’s in this community went in and left the annotation okay. So you can see this person here up south been waiting on a new one for a minute. It was worth the wait that might not be exactly what you want your kids talking about in class, but you can see the power that’s involved in this, so you could.
You could have a piece here where you record an audio clip or your students could record an audio clip and then, if you or they go in, you can basically go in and grab the audio clip and then annotate it we’re going to take a look at Some classical music I’m going to go in and look at this track right here and there’s only a couple. But let’s see how this looks so as audio is playing, so you see ghosts, prints came in and said, lovely there’s a way for individual students to come in and leave their text leave their annotations and it’s pretty easy to do so.
I’r going to go in, you saw a piece that I had here. I could be listening to the clip that we just recorded and I’ll stop my reporting there. So you can see right there. I just added in two clips, so I can reply so you can have dialogue about a section of the tape. I could even come back in here and say this part of the recording tends to be a bit better than the rest, and I can post that up there.
What we can do here is, as the as the teacher you can come in and say: okay, I love your emphasis on the words that Pinsky uses here. This part is a very you. You know this is a dramatic part of your production that I appreciate you could add elements where you’re a little bit more critical of your students, but the nice thing is that all of this is here in soundcloud. Once you have an account, you can create the clips, you can annotate the clips.
It makes that whole process of recording and uploading as simple as possible. What’s also nice about soundcloud is it is an online community. You can annotate, you could create groups with your kids. There is a limit to the amount of minutes you can upload. I think it’s around two hours, then you can pay for more. I think, for your purposes, you could pretty much accomplished everything without paying for the number.
One thing that I would have a concern about and that you should be concerned about is the fact that it is an online social network. That’s based on music and it’s very healthy okay, so there are tons of artists that released tracks here, there’s tons of people that are involved, and some of it is questionable. Okay, you cannot ensure that your students will be safe here in these environments. So what I suggest you do is you don’t send them in and have them just hunt down and look for you? Okay, don’t send them in and just look for you and try to find you.
Okay, because I’m a fan of DJ shadow. Okay, I can go in, I can follow DJ, shadows, music. I can listen to a lot of his pieces here. You might not want your students just to go in and find you and basically follow your tracks and mark up your tracks. Okay, the way that you get around that is, you create private lists. You create private tracks, private playlist, you embed those in your website. Then your students never have to come back here to SoundCloud.
Okay. What they’ll do is they’ll, go to your website. They’ll see an embedded clip on your page. That basically looks just like this. It plays like this, it shows the annotation and they can annotate, but they don’t have to go back to sound file. So, in a nutshell, that’s how now that we’ve created a clip and made it private, that’s how we annotate a clip. If you want to come back at any point and figure out how to do this, I basically put together a tutorial will be sharing that the instructions on how to get there, but we have a tutorial.
That’s set up showing you how to do all of this. On the website, I’ve set up for some of these directions. I show some of the standards that are involved and down below. I show screen cat captures on how to do this on an iPad, so this is basically exactly what we’ll be looking for when we use soundcloud with our students and use it for annotation purposes.
So this will download everything that they’ve posted, whether it’s allowed to be downloaded for free or not. If you’re a DJ and you’re trying to fill up your music collection – and you just like keeping your songs offline for whatever reason that maybe this is a great tool for you, it saves a lot of time being able to download a couple hundred tracks at once.
With you know, 10 seconds of typing in a command and letting it do its thing. I just found this today it’s really easy to use and I think it’d be useful for a lot of people. So, let’s go we’re going to use a Python script to download a possible unlimited number of tracks from SoundCloud using just one short text command. Even if download is unavailable for the track. This article will show me using the option to download every track upload and repost.
It by the artist Yeti yetis one of my favorites. So that’s what I’m going to use for this one. Other options outlined: allow you to download an artist like tracks as well as one command to download a playlist, as well as download newly added tracks to a playlist previously grabbed using this tool. By creating your own playlist, combined with using this tool, you can easily create a download queue using sound clouds, playlist on their site and type just one command to download all of your selections.
The prerequisites for this are you need to install the latest version of Python for your operating system, so I’m going to show you how to do this in Windows, but you can also do this using the same script on a Mac or Linux. There’s the link that you can go to to download Python for your operating system. So this part that I’m showing you here it’s going to highlight what you need to do to create and navigate folders inside of a command prompt, you’re, going to see what a command prompt is in a second, if you’re not familiar with it.
It basically is running your computer off of typed commands, rather than using your mouse and clicking around the screen. So if you take a look there, you can see what you would need to do to open up a command prompt, you’re going to hold down the windows. Key and you’re going to type the letter R, a little box is going to open on the lower left-hand corner, and this is where you can type in a command to quickly open any program that you may have installed on your computer command.
Prompt is built into Windows, and you have you: don’t need to have anything special to be able to get to this. So now, you’re going to go ahead and type in the letter CMD, and we definitely want to open our command prompt using administrator privileges. So we’re going to hold down ctrl + shift and we’re going to type in enter Windows. This is going to prompt asking if you want to allow this after make changes to your device, because we need to install a script that runs inside of Python.
We’re going to have to click yes, this is also expecting that you followed my link from step one and installed the latest version of python on your system, so I already have this installed, so the command isn’t going to show the same thing for me right now, As it will for you the first time, but what you’re going to want to do is you’re going to type pip3 pip3 one-word space, install space, SC DL, that’s going to go ahead and install the package made by flying grub, which he’s been so kind to provide For us on a github platform, so that’s good once that’s installed, then you’ll be able to run this command to be able to download what you want off a soundcloud, basically to move around directories and to command prompt, you type, cd’ and then a space.
And then the name of the directory that you want to get into if you type see these space and two periods it’ll navigate to the directory above the one that you’re in right now the parent directory. I did not include the directory listing here, but I’m going to type it in right now and you would type dir and that will show you the list of all the folders, where you’re currently located the other command.
That you’re going to use is mkdir, which will make a directory. In my example, it would create a new folder called this. Is my folder I’m going to show you how this works. So when you first open a command prompt, it’s going to put you in your windows, system32 folder. This is not a good place to download files, especially files that are going to be mp3. This is where commands are essentially stored.
So if I type dir, it will show me all the files that are in that folder. It’s a big mess, there’s four thousand five hundred and fifty-seven files there. So I’m going to go ahead and type CD space, two periods. Now I’m in the windows directory. Let’s check out, what’s in there a lot of stuff that we don’t need, so we’re going to go back once more CD dot dot you’re going to see my command prompt, there’s flashing, I’m in the C Drive, so I could type dir and it’s going to show You all the different folders that I or you have in your C Drive, so I already created a directory here called soundcloud, but I’m going to create a new directory, so I’m going to type mkdir space I want to put my name: is func, I’m going to Go into there now I’m going to hit dir again and I’m going to see that my new folder is there.
So if I want to get into it, I could type CD space and I could type out the full name if I want, but once I get part of it I and do an auto completion by hitting the tab key. Now, I’m in my new folder. So once I run the command to start downloading some Yeti, what’s going to happen, is it’s going to create folders and mp3s inside that my name is funk folder, it’s a much better place to keep your files in the windows, system32 directory.
There’s a couple different commands that I’m highlighting here inside the sedl script. One of them will download all tracks and reposts by the user that you want to go after the other. The second one will download all of the liked tracks by the user that you’re targeting and the third and fourth one will download playlists that either someone else has created, or you may have created, with the sole intent of using as a download queue to download a Mix of tracks for a multiple artist, if you see on the bottom there that’s a command that you would use to come back to a playlist that you may have created, and you only want to download the new tracks that haven’t already be been grabbed.
The one thing I want to mention is that if you do do that, one you want to make sure that you run it in the same folder that you downloaded that playlist last time. So now all we really need to do. Let’s say we want to download every track for the artist Yeti like we said before, I’m going to search for the artist I want on Soundcloud here it is right on the top. If you see the URL section of the web browser there that I’m highlighting my mouse over, you can see it’s just soundcloud.
Com forward. Slash and just one word. If you want to download an artist, it’s going to be slash and then one word nothing after it. I’ll show you, for example, would it look like if you wanted to go after a playlist, so I’m going to go, play a list and I’m going to click the brain near ep. So now you’re going to see the artist name in a /all playlists are going to start off with the word sets and then another forward slash and then the name of the playlist.
So if I wanted to do a playlist, that’s what I would select and copy to the clipboard, but that’s not we’re going after today, we’re going to download all of yetis tracks all over 200 of them that are here and what’s awesome about this. Is that no matter if the track was permitted to be giving you a free download or if it was just a stream only track? This script is going to put the track on your hard drive into an mp3 in the highest quality format that you can rip? It you may have used websites to rip SoundCloud tracks before.
Unfortunately, you know it’s one that you do is going to take a minute or so, and this you can do 200 all at once. So I’m going to select that text there, where my mouse is moving. I’r going to copy that to the clipboard so now that I got that there I’m going to go back to my command prompt and well I’m going to refer back to my things. So I want to download tracks and reposts of the user. So it’s essentially SC DL space, lowercase L, then the link space and a lowercase a I’m actually going to switch from Yeti to some kids.
I know a Nashville called the undergrowth. It’s a pretty cool, sound collective, a bunch of different artists. It’s it’s kind of a record label, part promotion company. It’s a lot of things. I recommend you check them out, they’re a bunch of good guys. Alright! So now I got that on my clipboard and that’s when I already have running I’m going to do a SC DL space that L space I’m going to paste in the link for the artist page, then I’m going to do space a once.
I hit enter it’s going to gather the tracks and, as it downloads the tracks, it’s also going to give him an ID three tag. So they’re tagged with the artist name and the name of the song and there we go, and I got four hundred and thirty. Five songs that my computer is going to proceed to download one after the next and they’ll be sitting pretty, and my harddrive in that folder that I created earlier called.
My name is funk. If you feel like this, article was useful to you and you’re really appreciative of the many many many many hours of time. I may have saved you that it would take to download four hundred and thirty five tracks. Just you know shoot me something in the comments. I hope my article helped you. I hope it was clear enough to understand and happy listening guys and thank you very much have a good day.
Alright guys this is the Jade insider today We’re making some coffee all you need to make bulletproof coffee’kay better than regular coffee gives you energy without being jittery so for everyone, who’s on this, like entrepreneurial journey Or you’re, doing like a lot of long focus work.
This is really yummy and really good. So all you need is some milk. I use half-and-half organic, but you can use plant-based milk And you need some of this. This is the brain. I use this ( bleep ), but you can also use the actual bulletproof brand yeah. My mom really likes this, but she’s Been drinking this for a while, but I think it tastes like s.
* * t yeah, I’m really picky, so I like through them It’s by Stumptown, Okay, two handfuls of beans, I’m going to grind it up and I forgot, if I told you guys my day, but it’s been pretty great. So I had a phone call and I’ve been really just invested in this like music industry thing, So I thought I’d share it with you guys some value I found and drink some coffee, one of my family’s client, I’m using four ice cubes guys.
If you make this recipe at home, please tag me: I want to see So try one teaspoon at a time too. Much of this can upset your stomach. What ( HELP ) Guys? Don’t let coffee ruin your teeth, so the oil lays on top. If you can see that, oh my god, it’s like everywhere And then your’re going to take the half and a half – and I add it to the Top ( sung ) – Oh there’s a seal. Okay, then you add the milk on top.
I usually add it to the rest of the drink. Noooooooo We’re going to try it. Oh this is so good. Okay, mmm ten out of ten Love, it I’m a chef Yeah. I really do like this uh Brain octane stuff, so my hands are oily, but I think we should talk about artist marketing now, mm-hmm tastes, so good, It’s so good. It looks like this. I wanted to talk about just this common question. I got so. First of all, you guys are super super sweet.
All the comments I get are is so nice and you guys are actually super engaging So like thank you for reading SONG PLAYS ( Shout Out to the comment winner, ) Comment on this post to be featured in the next episoooode ) SONG ENDS. I really appreciate you guys, so if you haven’t already make sure you like this article, because I just made a mess for you guys um and subscribe to this blog for more I post every single day.
So, let’s just get into the first thing. The question I got was like “. I was wondering What do you think about influencer marketing, especially for musicians?”? The artists are in a huge place right now, There’s a huge just like opportunity there, And I really do believe this is like one of my main next focus is like I’m already managing a few Artists marketing strategies. So I guess this is just an industry.
I wan na dive into so good question. I’ve took a few courses, and one of them is from a music management company in Netherlands, and one of the CEOs was like basically create a fan. Funnel Fan funnel is just a cone and there’s four levels to it. So the top of the stage is the awareness. Third stage is the Follower, then you have fans and then you have superfans. So all of this funnel, like thing I’m going to say, works for marketing, but especially for musicians that, when you’re trying to create a fan base, so The superfans are people that buy every single thing.
You put out that buy your Mixtape that buy your concert ticket. That buy your merch most of them They’re, like two percent of your entire following, don’t be unrealistic. It’s going to be hard to convert everyone, but what I’ve learned is. If you keep that mentality – And you spread your content over multiple platforms, You can create a really engaged super fan. Community Um. So if say, SoundCloud, artists, okay, one of the questions It was like “ is using a bigger blog, a good way to get fans?”.
So I think getting like okay, for example, getting SoundCloud repost it or like SoundCloud reposts And, like other blogs, featuring your work is a great way for the awarness level. But there’s no way in heck. Are you going to convert all those to people that listen to your your actual music? Okay, There’s going to be a lot of work that, on your end, to get those people to the end of the funnel? You want to get Super fans, but just be realistic with yourself.
I think, get a on the awareness level, okay, Get it on soundcloud, repost it or get it on YouTube. Whatever Awareness level works for you, but you know maybe communicate with a big like mass distributing company, but that awareness level needs to also be followed up with the Followers so make people subscribe to your YouTube or Instagram K, Get them engaged, and then your fans, Maybe Get them into your new mailing list or your exclusive For my example: I’m developing apps for personal brands, Maybe get them into your circle And then, finally, you know your superfans need to be like people that are like always in the whole 360 realm, and you Have To be creative with it so I’d say: that’s my position on in regards to like COFFEE BREAK, That’s good, so in regards to influencer marketing, Make sure you have a small fan base, but make sure you think about a super fan base.
I think getting reposted is just only the top of the funnel. You still need to do a lot of work. You still might want to place more ads. You want to do more collaborations. You might want to post daily content to get your followers going. It takes time guys There’s no way just by getting reposted You’re growing a fanbase um one of my friends who’s a it’s like killing it with clown cloud Alijah, with like 16 million streams Right so like he puts in a lot of emphasis on posting.
A lot of work and one of them will gain momentum, And you still have to follow up that work with really good content after because you don’t want to be all one-hit, wonder: Okay, what ever happened to Carly J Repsen? You know that song, like call me, Maybe, was a freaking lit song and now she’s, just like not here so thinking about time always distribute your content over. You know long term time instead of short term and that will make sure you’re in the game for a long time.
Instead of having a one-hit-wonder career as a musician COFFEE BREAK # 2, I really need to get ready so um. I hope you enjoyed straight insider coffee edition, And I hope you guys also make this. It’s really really yummy and really good for you hmm Hold up. If you could do me, a huge Favor give this article a like and hit that subscribe button Turn all my posted on vacations. Now That would mean the wooorld to me and I’d really appreciate it.
Number one is SoundCloud reposes networks. I’ve talked to people recently who had no idea what those were. So I want to first say I’m going to do this a little bit differently before I talk about it a little bit more extensively, I want everybody who’s reading and who has any kind of experience with these to kind of detail. Your personal experience in the comments below maybe some point out some good repost networks or repost pages that you’ve used, so other artists can use it at their resource that way.
People who don’t know about it or people who’ve just used it once or twice, can get the experience from different angles and make educated decisions by themselves based on reading these people’s experiences. The comments pre shade it that’s going to be super helpful and, of course, we also know there are scams out there and that’s another reason. It’s good for everybody to share the information, because some of these pages are trying to make a quick comment.
Definitely not all of them, but just thumbs and soul, to quickly define or to explain the brief postal network is basically you have your music on soundcloud and then you either have an individual reposted or you have a whole network of individuals reposted. Some people will do it just because they, like your stuff and some people will, you know, say, give me that money and a lot of people most of the times.
You probably want to pay them some form of money either right works anyway. That’s basically a short explanation for those who didn’t know what it was already everybody please make those comments and help each other out anyway, once again, as I said, I’ll, be doing things about specific tools and websites and all kind of resources throughout this series, I don’t Know how often I’ll do it, but that’s it stay tuned.

My song hit a hundred thousand plays on soundcloud today, which is December 26. 2017. The first time one of my songs, everyone SoundCloud, hit a hundred thousand plays, and I just wanted to share that with y’all.
I know we still building this blog and stuff like that, but let’s go ahead and get into this man. So this is my soundcloud. That’s me, Laidback, dear far, you can search me. Follow me all that good stuff, but this song right here see this song right here here a hundred thousand plays man boom. You can see it right there, a hundred thousand of loaded. Five months ago, the first song ever on my page, a hundred thousand plays – and you see, only got a hundred and nineteen way followers.
So for me to get a hundred thousand plays those people were sharing it and possibly SoundCloud looked out for me with the algorithm. I was probably one of the first people to upload a remix to that scissor record broken clocks. You know what I mean so, like I said I wasn’t going to flow. I was going to close out the year with that one vlog, but this is a monumental moment in my career, my music career.
You know I’m saying I’m going to tell you a little quick story behind it too. So I uploaded this freestyle to um the weekend by scissor and don’t it was doing numbers it was doing got like 11,000 plays and less than a month. My page never seen that much activity before saddle cloud got on me boom, snatched it down. So I was late. Ah I’m going to make another freestyle the same artist and it’s going to do more plays so what happened? I did it to the broken clocks, joint and next thing.
I know I started seeing the numbers go crazy, but I was not expecting 100,000 plays on this song, but I appreciate everybody that listened to the song and I’m going to leave the song link in the description below. So if you want to check out the song you wan na follow me, you know I’m saying go ahead and do that and at this point in time I was dropping a freestyle every week on soundcloud, so it was building up traffic with people.

Listen to it now hit that subscribe button. It should boy lay back. You already know what it is. A
Maybe you haven’t hit that first hundred or first thousand or even first ten thousand and in my opinion SoundCloud is still going to be super valuable. So this article is all about how you can gain traction and gain followers on SoundCloud in 2019. Let’s go so it’s 2019 and streaming is becoming more and more popular for music.
There’s SoundCloud, there’s Spotify, there’s Apple music. There’s all these different platforms. However, in my opinion, SoundCloud is still one of the most vital ones, because in a lot of ways it’s still the only kind of social network of music. You have Spotify, you have all these other ones, but SoundCloud is the only one where you can really comment. Communicate interact with your fans, interact with artists, you want to message and be in contact with, and I still think SoundCloud is still very valid.
It’s still very good, and you know who knows two months from now six months from now they could figure their stuff. Oh and they could still become one of the most popular platforms for music, especially underground music. So let’s just get into these ten tips now the first one doesn’t have to do with SoundCloud itself has to do with you and its quality. The quality of your music is going to be absolutely vital for standing out on SoundCloud SoundCloud.
You have to just dig through a constant pile of crap and, in my opinion, the only music that is going to continuously hook. People in is high quality music. Now, I’m not saying you have to be Skrillex or phlume or Diplo, or you know any of these levels of musicians. But what I recommend doing is listen to listening to your favorite artists, artists. You aspire to sound like or you think you sound like and really objectively try and look at it and see if you are 80 % as good as they are.
I would say to succeed on Soundcloud and to stand out. You really have to be at least 80 % as good as the people you aspire to sound like, and if you don’t honestly, I think you’ll just get forgotten and your music will quickly fall into the pile and you’re not going to stand out. And it’s just going to be a lot of effort when I think spending that time on social media could be better spent on trying to grow your skills versus that so step one before you really even think about getting yourself on soundcloud.
I would make sure your music is about 80 % as good as those of you aspire to sound like quality. So you can put your best foot forward now. Tip number two goes into the whole quality versus quantity debate and it comes down to quantity or more so consistency. I think consistency is very important. A song has a specific lifespan and it’s actually starting to get shorter and shorter. But what I mean by that and what I mean by the lifespan of a track is say: you put out a new track well over the course of say a month and even a short is now three weeks even two weeks, even one week in the day And age of music, we live in it kind of has a lifespan where you gain all this traction, maybe get YouTube.
Support blog support, support from your friends. You gain this new attention for it, you gain these followers. You gain these fans, you gain these listens and it reaches a peak and then it quickly steeply starts to cut off and the track quickly becomes forgotten for the most part in this day and age of music. Unless, of course, it’s a masterpiece and it’s a it’s a very standout song, but for the most part musics just going to go up, have a lifespan and it’s going to go down now.
If you’re, putting one song out every two months, you’re not going to stand out and you’re going to quickly be forgotten, just think about you as a listener. How many new artists are always on your radar, new music and how many of them to you really stand out and are ones you keep going back to and very likely it’s only the ones where they’re constantly in your face constantly providing you with a new song And for personally, I’m just speaking personally here, it takes about 4 to 5 songs from artists for that to kind of click in my head and be like.
Oh, I like this artist. This is an artist. I want to follow and pay attention to say. For example, I don’t know an artist I I recently fell in love with would be like bad computer, whose releases a lot on monstercat. I heard one song of his. I really liked it and I gave him a follow in the hopes that maybe he’ll put out more stuff that I’ll really like. And luckily I followed him around the time where he started to consistently release on monstercat, probably once a month, and those songs were just constantly on my radar, like good new song, good new song, good new song and that solidified him to me.
As one of my favorites, while there could be another artist where they put out a single and it’s like one of the best singles I’ve ever heard, but if they don’t put something out, I’m going to quickly forget about them and not consider them. One of my favorites one of those go-to artists, one of those artists that, if they played in my town, I’d, want to go see or one of those artists that I’d follow on Soundcloud form or I would eventually go through my soundcloud followers and be like.
Oh, I got the single from this person, I’m not going to follow them anymore unfollow, so you need a really good balance of quality and consistency, and it might take a while to get to that point where your skills are at the point where you can write At least one quality song and release it per month, but I recommend the quicker you can do that. The quicker that, consistent that that lifespan can build on itself, because once your track hits the peak of its plays and follows, then you drop that next track and every all those new people who just start paying attention to you are going to listen to that new Song and it’s going to keep going up, you’re going to keep going up instead of kind of getting a bunch of new followers and some of them disappearing or not interacting with your work anymore.
So number two was consistency. Now number three is a little less useful in 2019, but I still wouldn’t rule it out and that is download gates. Now, if you don’t know how to download gate, a download gate is a website in a a technique that you can use to set up a download for your song, where, when someone downloads your song, instead of asking for money, you ask for some sort of social Currency and that could be a SoundCloud follow.
That could be a Facebook light, and in this case, because we’re doing SoundCloud follows in SoundCloud growth, you do it for a SoundCloud follow, maybe even a repost, maybe even a comment, because a bunch of comments on your track will make it look really good and give Social proof to the fact that your track is worth listening to and people like it, so those are going to be websites like the artist Union tone.
Den hive fan gate, there’s there’s so many right now, they’re so easy to set up, and it’s it’s really as easy as you set up a download gate for a track go to any of those websites, easy breezy. And then, when someone wants to download your track, they’ll have to like it repost it follow you, and hopefully that repost and that follow will either lead them to listening to more of your music in the future or that repost getting the attention of others and the Reason I say it’s still valuable is even though the average listener is probably just streaming your track, putting it in a playlist putting it in their favorites DJs and people who still like to collect songs on their computer, primarily DJ’s are still going to want to download Your music, I know myself whenever I have a show coming up.
I probably download like a hundred new songs, and I have to go through those download gates pretty much for every single one I buy very little music or maybe a third to a quarter while most of the music I’m still going through a download gate to acquire. So this is going to be super beneficial because you’re going to get reposts you’re going to get likes, you can get favorites, maybe even comments, and it can take a track that has no traction and if it’s good enough people will download it and it will get Traction so I recommend still using to download gates in 2019.
Now the next technique is using download gates for stuff other than music and providing values, and what I mean by that is: yes: you’ll have DJ’s that use download gates, but that’s still very few. However, one way down low gates are still really valuable is to provide some sort of value for your audience or prospective audience, be it through a sound through a sample pack. Maybe you write a blog that can only be accessed through a download gate.
So what you can do is you can create a really desirable item, property of some sort, sample, packs presets inside look article. I could you can get really creative with it and you can actually put it behind a download gate where someone has to use a download gate to access it, and this is actually how I got a lot of my following and how cymatics the company I used To work for gained a ton of their following is where, if you want to download a sample pack, if you want to download preset something like that, you have to use a download gate or stems.
If someone wants to remix your song or something like that, they have to use this download gate and for me that gets way more downloads than a song to a download gate. So tip number four is provide value for your audience and put that behind it download Gate where they have to then follow you repost it or something like that now tip number five for growing. Your soundcloud is going to be repost trading or joining repost circles.
Now there’s two sort of different things here. The first is repost trading, where you can go to websites which I think like repost Network or things like that, where you can essentially put your song up on there and you can kind of get asked for a bid. Essentially that where someone can offer to repost it for you reposting one of their songs and the reason I say bid, because a lot of times has to do with how many followers you have so like.
I have a SoundCloud with 15k, so I can ask an account with 15k to do a trade, for example, and then I just you know, select their song hit, yes, make an offer. If we agree, I don’t even have to do any of the work it’ll actually manually, do it for you for 24 hours, so if you’re, really new to SoundCloud using these websites to just create all these repost trades and get songs to repost is really useful because Reposting on Soundcloud is, in my opinion, one of the best things and worse things about it and my opinion kind of ruins SoundCloud because it kind of ruined your feed and it ruined the cleanliness of just following people.
You like, however, I’m not going to avoid the elephant in the room I’m going to take advantage of it, so I’m going to use websites like that to set up these repost networks. Now, on top of that, you can also set up repost networks with your friends. If you have friends who are all producers create, like a a group, chat a discord, something like that, where every time one of you releases a song, all of you are going to repost it periodically, and that way you can join forces with your friends, and everyone Gets each other’s support every time you put out a song cuz, it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere and it can be just a great way to start snowballing and get the attention you want that you yourself may not have with a brand new or very small Soundcloud, the next tip is going to be using your other social media.
Now this may seem very obvious, but using your Twitter, your Facebook, your Instagram, your snapchat, to push a song when it when it’s out is very beneficial. Now my main order word of advice here, though, is to grow those social media or social media separately, and not just making those a self promotional platform. You want to give people a reason to follow your Facebook, a reason to follow your Instagram, a reason to follow your Twitter, so you want to be providing value content on those platforms that isn’t just always here’s my soundcloud link, here’s my soundcloud link because nothing is Going to get you unfollowed or liked quicker, however, that being said, those social medias are going to be a great way to just get that initial traction, especially your personal Facebook account, because your other social media is probably going to be as small as your soundcloud or Within the same range, but your personal Facebook has your friends and they already interact with you and communicate with you not to mention you can private message: people you can private message.
Your best friends give them a song, ask them for support and, if you’re fairly new, to growing a sound fairly new to growing social media over all your friends are very likely to support you now. Someone like me, who’s been at it for five years. If I sent people links they’re so tired of seeing it, so it’s probably not very effective, but this tutorial isn’t for people who have been on South Club for five years.
This is people who are just growing and some people who are pretty much starting 2018-2019 so use your other social media to grow your soundcloud. The next tip is going to be YouTube promotional blogs to grow your soundcloud, so on YouTube. There are tons of blogs that exclusively upload other people’s music and what you can do, every time you put out a song is you can connect with these blogs? They usually have submission emails in their About section, collect dozens of them in a spreadsheet email them all.
Personally, one by one, and even if just one picks it up, and they include your download gate in the description say, your song got a thousand to ten thousand plays on one of these blogs, which is very realistic. You know some of these blogs can do very well and, let’s even just be conservative, let’s say you got a thousand plays, even if one percent of that thousand decided to actually download the song.
So one in a hundred plays that’s still ten more followers than you had the day before, and ten followers is a big deal. You shouldn’t take that for granted. So using YouTube’s promotional networks to actually get your music heard is very beneficial and I recommend using a promo strategy and having a promo plan every time you release a song or maybe you’re, hitting them up two weeks before you’re telling them hey my songs.
Coming out. This date, would you be interested you’re, starting to communicate with these people and find out who they are on a personal level. Building connections with them YouTube is still a very valid way of promoting music in 2019, and I still highly recommend it, especially with YouTube music becoming a thing where now people will actually be listening to and streaming music through YouTube music specifically and then, if they ever Choose to download it or see your name and like it it’ll probably convert.
However many even however little will convert to followers on Soundcloud. The next step is going to be joining the community. So one of the things I was preaching in the beginning that I like about SoundCloud, is it still very much a social network you’re still very much communicating reposting, commenting private messaging, all these things and if you join the community and you start to find artists and Participate in their work, they’re so much more likely to check yours.
Oh now, I’m not recommending to go to you know a huge producer and spam their song with comments to check out your work, but I recommend finding musicians around your level and giving them really constructive. Creative or kind feedback that you truly mean listen to their music, tell them what you liked about it tell them what you think maybe check out a couple of their songs. Don’t ever ask them to check out yours, but just be a part of the community and participate in their work and you’re more likely to build a community and have people to start to connect with yours, one of my best friends in the world, Sam winter him And I actually met on soundcloud and he’s actually from Ottawa, and this was back when you’re both started, and I was doing just that.
Every day I was like grinding, I was just like finding music and I was participating. I was communicating, he was one of them. We started private messaging years later. He moved to live with me in Vancouver and we started a business. I eventually worked for cymatics and lived together for like a year and a half, so you never know you know. Being part of the community is a great way to just start to build your inner circle and just really grassroots connect and build a community from the ground up and lastly, I recommend branding and when I say branding I mean really perfecting how your soundcloud looks.
You want really clean links, a really clean bio, taking advantage of the image and the header on top of it, having a really good name. That’s really easy for people to search and remember memorable song names that are probably related and ideally even a consistent, sound or style. Now, if you’re still really new musician, you may still be finding that so don’t hurt yourself and beat yourself up too much about finding that.
However, I just really recommend the sooner you build a brand. You build a consistent, sound, a style and aesthetic something that really sticks in people’s minds when they see it. It’s going to help people want to follow you and will recognize your song in their feed and are more likely to check it out again later, so there we go guys. That was ten tips on how you can grow a SoundCloud in 2019. I still think SoundCloud is very valid and even if you’re just starting from Ground Zero, now it’s never too late and there’s still a lot of tips and tricks.
You can get to get that first hundred, first thousand, even first ten thousand followers on soundcloud. So I hope you guys got a lot out of this tutorial. I know it’s different than my typical music production tutorial. So if you liked it, let me know, I hope you guys got a lot out of it. My name is Cromartie thanks again and I’ll be back soon with another article peace
