Testimonials BizHack Alumni – Michelle Reitkopf – Digital Marketing Training Academy

Thank you. You are the bag, lady. Yes, what is the bag? Lady? The bag? Lady? Is a family owned and run curated kind of art collection that people can actually wear and it’s all new products and it ranges from bags to accessories and then all the way now we started with clothing and leggings and blankets and home goods. What is the most expensive bag you’ve ever sold? Oh, I think it was a $ 5,000 bag and one went to Peru, we’re so lucky.

We have a lot of international customers that seek us out and find us from the power of the Internet, and so that’s been one of our top-selling bags and you brought a couple bags with us to show us what you have sure Mary Francis is a line That we’ve been working with for 20-plus years, hand beaded made in the Philippines and every season and collection, it’s a new collection and it’s limited so she’s, wonderful, she’s based in California – and this is, we learned both of our sign.

Yes, it’s the horoscope collection and we did very well with us actually and that’s a new body shape and style, and people love the horoscope stuff, great yeah. That’S also a Mary Francis and it’s all hand beaded in the work is fantastic, she’s, very artsy she’s. Very, the names of the items are super cool and we love working with them have limited pieces of Gucci and we love the Gucci stuff, especially the florals.

We love what’s happening with the brand now that it’s just doing so well and he’s taking it to this eco. He took far out of the line. Alessandra Michel he’s the new director and he’s just with the rockstars and he’s doing great and transforming the company, and I really honor that there’s a lot of beautiful stuff here, coach and michael kors, our you know our everyday line and we do excellent with coach and Michael kors, those are our mainstay plain leather goods and beautiful stuff, and then johnny was they just came out with this new perfume and this oil, and we are doing well with that whole line great, I feel like we’re on the Home Shopping Network.

This is awesome. You know this is definitely not my world. This is your world. In fact, I learned that since 1976, your parents started a business with high-end shoes. Tell us a little bit about how about your parents business and how you kind of inherited the kind of luxury woman’s market. Well, they came to the states and they from Russia, and then they met in Israel. They both did the army and then they were in Israel and married and then they moved to the States.

My parents wanted the American Dream and they took over this man’s shop and started with shoes and all sorts of designer women’s comfort shoes from Italy from the United States, and then I was born a year or so later, and you know it’s just it’s interesting. My my parents, Mike on my mother’s side, are immigrants from Europe as well and to Philadelphia, and they actually ran a shoe store as well, but it was a low hand, okay store in kind of a rough neighborhood in Philadelphia, so kind of same business.

Other end of the spectrum, amazing: what was the name of the store when it started in 76? It started with shoe club and it was in Aventura Florida, yes, which is kind of just outside of Miami, and then it moved on and they named it Michels. After me yeah, so they called my dad Michele for a while, and so he would respond to it because he was the face of the business and everything and he’s so helpful and love talking to people and the stories.

We’D have like multi-generations come in to chop and it was fantastic, so many years and we’ve developed several stores and relationships with the local community and everyone knew if they needed something special for an event or for every day where to come to the store. And you worked at the stores. Yes talk a little bit about some of the things you did around the store. I did everything from merchandising to purchasing doing the buying behind the counter.

We did it old-school, so we were right down on the invoice from closing the shop and to opening it so the whole all of the logistics and then in the mid nineties. You left you have to South Florida. You left the shop, yes and, and you probably thought for good – you left the business I thought so I thought I was going to move on to something else and bigger and different, and and where do you go and how did you find your way back? Well, I went to school in University of Virginia and I love Charlotte’s though I love the mountains and the whole culture was a completely different one that I really ingratiate it into, and then I decided to come back after doing a little bit of time in Florence.

So I was in the mecca of art and fashion for a bit as well: we’ve always had Paris and Israel and Italy in our blood and this European boutique II feel so I bring it back to Florida. I went and moved to the Grove and started working on odd jobs here – Art Director, Marketing Manager and those sort of things, and then I kept the thread of the store. I will always woodwork like one or two days a week, and I saw this opportunity online.

That was a new versioning place for online goods and I started on eBay where I started telling $ 650 item products. At the time when people were selling vintage flea market finds so I started this whole new new items being sold online and I would go to the store to work and then I just ship out what I sold and things were moving online, that wouldn’t move in The store that people would just look at so it was a really different dynamic and I saw this opportunity so you specifically were selling handbags online on eBay.

Yes in the early 2000. Yes can you can you go back to like? How did you learn about eBay and how did you have the the insight / inspiration to sell? You know: multi-hundred dollar thousand dollar, handbags that were new yeah and what was essentially an auction site for flea market and used goods. I just start tried it out, and I do you remember that moment when you’re like okay, tell me about that, is the brand called Isabella Fiore and they did like really beautiful, hand-painted stuff somewhere from Italy somewhere from elsewhere, and they were just sitting and nothing was Moving in the store – and I thought let me check online – see see if so, anyone else in the world has been s or selling it, and I would seize things on eBay and at that time eBay was pretty big for the flea market world and I thought Why not? There is a new with tag option.

Why not try it so I put put a few on and I take like homemade pictures and they started to sell and just like that. It just was a quick happening and did you with eBay, were they auctioned or with a minimum bid yeah we did that and did you were you able to sell them at a higher price than the retail price in your store? No, to be honest, no nowadays I can do that, but those days now I would get MSRP, though, which was great, so it was a way to kind of move merchandise that you just can’t move any other.

Yes, how did it evolve from there from there? I wanted out of the shoes I wanted nothing to do with shoes, because she’s are very difficult. Shoes are tough. How did mom and dad feel about you getting out of their business? Oh, they liked the fact that and they liked it, because my mom wasn’t loving the going to the store every day and dealing with the public, so we iced all bags as an easy thing to ship.

There’S no real size to it. You can gift it easily. So I like the idea of it that it was simple yeah there’s, also not the challenge of whether they fit correct the fit is off and Zappos kind of took over at that time, and I couldn’t compete with as oppas scenario did okay. So then what happened at some point? The retail store, your parents closed the store. We closed the store, yes, the store closed because the rent went up triple yeah and they retired no they’re, still they’re still working a little bit with ya lady, the things flipped yeah.

Now, they’re working for you and well with with me, writing receipts and collecting. You know something like that and soon talk about what happened from that those first early days mm. You know 19 like what what happened over that you know 15 year period, how did the business grow, sir evolve and mature okay um? Over the years, we’ve tried out different products, different price points, different marketplaces and kind of had to go along with the times and where the technologies have been moving from desktop to mobile, to free returns, return shippings, all things have the picture.

Quality has to be really amazing, especially if you’re selling a $ 5,000 item. So we started hiring photographers going to different, shows and vegas atlanta different places to to get new brands. That would be ready for online and at this time a lot of the malls and brands were opening their own storefronts kind of competing with us. That makes sense, and that made a lot of stores close so mom and pops.

It became rare to have like a native family-run business and let alone being online. The dynamic is a little different because you’re not touching the product you’re shipping instead, so it becomes like almost like a catalog business, but a lot of the brand’s want you to maintain store Franz. They want you to go to trade, shows and still be in person. So over the years we found this different, different marketplaces, repeat: customers, brands that resonated and we’ve evolved to today, where we’re we have our own website and we’re on many marketplaces which marketplaces we’re on Amazon, which is one of our better ones that we do most of Our business and it’s really strict stringent policies to maintain turnaround with email messaging to products being, as is, and exactly what you’re selling and we’re happy to do.

So because, where you are very honorable in what we do and sell – and we want all the customers to know and have that exact thing that they’re ordering, so we’re really proud of that, when did you first get onto Amazon Amazon? We started about five six years ago and it transformed our business yeah yeah we’re doing many more sales, our Christmas December time as fantastic, and it beats going to a store yeah, I’m sitting all day waiting for someone to walk in because we reach the whole world.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci72MW5U0gg

What differentiates you as a vendor online? What what makes you special? Yes couple things the way we curate our stuff, it’s like a gallery of items and we have a lot of limited edition pieces and we have new stuff. So we not only have this amazing piece still that might be from the special season from last season and no one has it anymore and that someone’s looking for it. But it’s new and it’s in the original packaging and it comes with all its wealth bill bells and whistles anything that it should come with.

So it’s a way that people can trust our goods with tags and dust bags and and we ship it beautifully as well, and and how does that translate online? You know like, like you know, when you’re dealing with such demanding customers, people who are used to going to the Four Seasons who are used to kind of having their every whim met. Yes, how does it like translate to e-commerce kind of impersonal? You know it could be, it could be.

I like that. I have contact and communication with these buyers and discussed they killed, call me or whoever and have someone actually pick up the phone they’re so shocked. It’S amazing when they call – and I actually pick up and explain, answer all their questions. They love it. So, there’s that level of intimacy and all and communication, which is key and it’s different than calling a department store and getting the runaround or being put on hold for 20 minutes or whatever yeah.

I that’s my favorite. The discerning client is a favorite of mine and developing that relationship and continuing it so that I know next season or the next collection that comes in that I can reach out to that person and they’ll be excited to hear from me. Is there a bit of that, like you might call or text or whatsapp sure, absolutely personalized, yeah cuz? That makes that differentiates me from I’m shopping somewhere else, yeah yeah.

That brings us to me. Yes, what in the world sounds like you’re, a very successful businesswoman? Well, thank you. You’Ve been able to kind of take a family business and bring it into the 21st century. What can i, what can busy do for you? Well, I had so many good recommendations and referrals to come to you and since the class I’ve met even more people that have taken your class and known you, and I find your class to be the next step for us in expanding the social media presence.

Utilizing Facebook, as the main cog in the wheel and seeing how that will translate onto because online sales is what we do I’d like that and I think you’re what you do is perfect for our business in translating a high-end fashion, easy capturable social presence into sales Were you feeling a little captive to Amazon? Perhaps yes, talk about that like what they’re sort of what give, I guess, maybe what giveth can be taken away? Is that sort of how it felt it just feels like? I don’t want to be tied down and I would like the potential to grow a similar business on my own.

That has that I’m in control of right and explain what that means. For someone who isn’t in the e-commerce business. What does it mean to be in control of Amazon? Requires you to use UPC codes to use certain product details, to update your the catalog to use certain images and it’s a very stringent business seller performance that they expect from you, which is fine and it keeps everyone up to par.

But certain things that I’d like to sell may not have a UPC code, but I love the designer from Columbia and I would love to use her products, but she doesn’t have that code so that limits what I can sell to the world. So I see working with you as a potential of expanding the online business, the bag, lady shop site and being able to sell other products that I adore and that I have limits with on Amazon yeah.

That’S definitely one really interesting limitation. I mean another one with Amazon is when folks go to an amazon landing page with your product. Yeah amazon owns that traffic cause the data about that traffic. They don’t share that data. They don’t let you track that customer. You can’t retarget that customer you’re really limited and absolutely with that yeah. So if someone visits that landing page with your product and doesn’t buy, you have no way of advertising to them again.

Yes, that’s a big one if they were to go and visit that same product on your homepage on your website. You could absolutely and so driving traffic from ads on facebook to your home page versus an Amazon landing page allows you for share our sales, 100 % and so part of what I think. The opportunity that you see is to kind of own your destiny. A little bit more yes and I adore that relationship. I want to be in touch with these customers, they’re, essentially mine, and I would like to have that discussion with them and send them newsletters and all the latest yeah.

It would be great – and I mean you know somebody who’s looking at a one or two or three thousand dollar bag isn’t necessarily going to buy on the first visit right. You know so so you can expect them to kind of shop around a little bit, and so it’s particularly important with that kind of purchase which isn’t going to be an impulse, buy that you’re able to have build up a relationship, and it’s very very hard to Do that on Amazon, absolutely Lilley captive to their world the other thing about Amazon that we talked a little bit about when we were first kind of getting to know each other is what I sort of mentioned to you.

Is that what Amazon giveth Amazon can taketh away? Yes, which is to say that Amazon will drive traffic to your product pages through their search? Yes, but they control everything. How much traffic you get, of course, and if they decide another vendor is who they want to get traffic to or that they’re going to start selling, which they do they compete with your own statistics. You know those bags themselves or a knockoff version, mm-hm or they’re going to make you start to pay for what you’re getting now for free.

All of those become inhibitors to your growth start and risks for your business yeah. So there’s just a lot of risk. That’S kind of built in to relying on any one digital blog for your company’s future, absolutely put all your eggs in one basket and it’s not to say that there aren’t risks associated with Facebook. It’S just that you’re diversifying the risk by. If you have a good blog going with Facebook and it’s generating you traffic there and you have Amazon and then you have eBay, and maybe you have some other blogs going as well and then you have direct traffic and you have the direct relationship yeah.

Then you have a diversified business that could survive if Amazon changes its policies or start sending you less traffic and so forth, and then you also as you explore these new blogs can grow. Yes, what have you learned so far that you think is going to make a difference for your business, because this is so retail focused? I adore the look-alike audience aspect of the Facebook campaign. What’S it look like audience good question, you utilize an existing targeted audience that you have data from and you filter it through and it they create a symbiotic audience.

That means I’m a similar to audience. Okay and I’m really a like the idea that I’m going to learn who my audience is, his Facebook is so massive and it goes from grandmother’s to tweens and all in between, and I’m really curious to see that, because that’s really that will tell me the next Phase of this adventure in business is who, targeting for I’ll, go and buy leggings for that tween. If that’s my new customer that I know is going to be purchasing for me.

So it’s a great tool. I’M really excited to learn that and get the data from the Facebook. You know that Facebook, you know, does someone who likes coach also, like Gucci, does it work that way or is someone who likes Gucci, also like whatever this is Mary friends Mary Francis? Are there like partisans, like somebody who likes this designer, doesn’t like that kind of group? Yes, it groups for sure, but it’s fashion.

So it’s multi-level and there’s something that you’ll do during the day that maybe on a weekend or an event that you’ll need something else or – and you have ideas about those groupings right just from years of experience, absolutely it’s a different population. Have you gone into audience, insights and tested those assumptions? I started a little bit, but I’m really excited to delve in there and it would be really fun yeah to do that yeah.

We could even do it together, but what we could do is Facebook. Has this amazing tool, it’s called audience insights and basically leverages the data from two billion people and you can put in their interests like Gucci. Yes and then you can see according to Facebook’s data people who, like Gucci, also tend to like X yeah, and we can actually test some of your knowledge. So you know what we might have to do when I have to do a little quiz, okay and see if we could like test you and see.

If, ladies I’m excited, I can pass the Facebook test uh-huh all right. So, let’s project forward. Okay, it’s graduation! Yes, you’re at the end of this first stage of your journey is hack. The end min is 12 12 week journey with us together. What do you imagine you’ll say to your fellow graduates as you’re, giving your graduation speech? Well, that’s a good projection. I hope everyone’s happy and healthy and growing in their business at that time and that we’ve made good relationships.

That will because to me that’s one of the most important things as the relationships with people. I love creating new ones and helping people need others and to bring traffic to the website. That’S the main goal and to translate that into sales. That would be the greatest right talk a little bit about some of the people. You’Ve met some of the peers, the the other business owners that you’ve met. Yes, I’ve met and know Julia who’s, a realtor.

I love the class also because it’s so varied with so many different types of people and types of industries and levels. So that’s been great. Anthony is selling products on Amazon as well, and he’s he’s was interesting to get to know. Carmen Tati is a great role model, there’s a lot of great people in the class, so how you know it’s possible that Amazon could go away tomorrow? You know how is busy at preparing you for that with digital marketing and media, there’s that blog through Facebook to get quality audience the same.

That Amazon captures the two billion that are on Facebook or would be captured with digital marketing, and I want to learn how to do that with your class properly and funnel that information and make it into great sales yeah. And I guess another way to talk about. It’S like right now. What percentage of your sales are coming through Amazon versus, say your website or eBay, a majority I’d say: 60 percent is an Amazon sale and if you could, if, in a in an ideal world, what percentage would be, what would your ideal percentage be website versus Amazon? 90 % website would be ideal, so right now, you’re at is it 40 % on your website or less less? What is it on your website minimal? Got it so right now: you’re like below 5 % on your website and 60 % on Amazon yeah, and your goal is to get to 90 % on your web absolutely and 10 % everywhere else.

Yes, so what is your plan to get from under 5 % to 90 %, starting with your cloths, and to see what that will bring and tapping into the market that Facebook has to offer and how will Facebook help you get there? How will Facebook help you get more sales directly on your website? I really think it’s a powerful tool because you can see the behaviors the interest capture their eyes in a way that in article and really targeted ways right and then drive them to your drive to the website and collect their contact information.

So you can stay in touch absolutely so I guess the the way that the path there is to use or leverage the audience on Facebook, sir, to make them aware of you, mm-hmm collect their contact, information yeah and then begin a direct selling relationship kind of the The idea – and I guess that’s what and that’s what biz hack is teaching you how to do absolutely great yeah I’ll get you there. I hope. So, although ninety percent – I don’t know well, let’s increase it yeah well, you know, what’s going to happen, is we’ll keep your ebay portion the same okay and we’ll make the other portions so large yeah.

Then it will just dwarf the existing. So your business will become massive. That would be fantastic. Then it will become like a hundred million dollar business. Can you imagine by the way, do you know of anyone else who’s doing what you’re doing? That’S the thing I am not in the you’re one of the first people in my new networking journey trying to meet like-minded entrepreneurs that are doing what I’m doing.

I know a few, but they also sell this bad back, and so I need to know, of course, many in the business, but not quite that are on Amazon, some sell, diaper mats that are organic things like that very specified. Not I don’t know anyone that has like a collection, so you don’t know another bag. Lady person, I know mmm, no, I don’t it’s pretty wild. Actually it is so what you’re doing seems like. Why aren’t there like a million bag? Ladies, I think there are, and they might not have the same collection or breath of online presence, or there may be relationships that you’ve developed that are hard to manage relationships, because these designers won’t necessarily make their collections available to those other folks.

It’S just varied. Some. Don’T have the storefront, some don’t have the connection, there’s different levels. Yeah, you know you’ve heard of drop shipping right. I love drop shipping and and you’re a but you’re, but you also have a large inventory, correct, yeah. How large is like in terms of dollars? How I couldn’t even but a lot Millions there’s dollars in there.

8 Local SEO Hacks that will Skyrocket your Traffic

My name is luc de round the founder of ranking academy. Uk, where I talk about the best tools, tips and ways to promote your local business online step by step and keep by click on my blog, I cover everything. Any local business owner needs to know from search engine optimization to social media.

My goal is to help you thrive online, so you can drive more visitors to your business and ultimately make more money if you’re new here consider, subscribing and clicking on the bell button, so you don’t miss any of my new articles. One last thing don’t forget to check out the description below, which is where I put additional notes and links I refer to in this tutorial. So, let’s jump in with our first hack hack number one simulate local search results for different locations.

You may or may not know that Google uses location tracking technology to determine the location of a searcher. With this technology, Google can guess users exact location based on the IP address or GPS coordinate of the device they are using. This means that if I search for the keyword electrician near me on my office computer, I will get a very different set of results than if I conduct the same search for my computer at home located several miles away from my office.

This not only affects the Google map back results, but also the rest of the results, especially when there is a clear indication. The search is based on local terms such as a city, a postcode or a near me query. So unless you use a tracking tool, it makes it difficult to check if your business ranks in different locations when you are doing your research from the same computer. But if you don’t want to spend the money on a tracking tool, there is a free hack.

You can use to quickly check if your business ranks for your target keywords in specific locations. Even if you are using the same computer, go to Google and open an incognito window. Doing your research in an incognito window will prevent Google from giving you results. Based on your previous history, so the outcome will be totally clean in your address bar search for a keyword you are targeting for your business.

I’M going to use the example of one of my clients website with an electrician and wants to rank for the term emergency. Electrician in multiple local areas, near where his business is based, press return in the address bar, remove everything after the keyword parameter and add the following command and near equals city, replace the parameter city with the location area. You want to see the results for.

In this example, I’m going to use Bexleyheath, which is where the business is located and sure enough. They are at the number one spot in a map pack and in the traditional results. Let’S switch to a neighboring location called Dartford. This time they are number two in the map pack and number one in the more conventional results. This hack is very handy, as it enables you to quickly identify locations where your business is not ranking, just create or improve existing content for these areas to get more visibility and more traffic.

Moving on to hack number two find keywords: your competitors are ranking for it. All starts with someone typing a keyword in a search engine. If your business’s website ranks high enough for it, it is likely you will get a new visitor and hopefully, a new customer understanding. What keywords people are searching for is the foundation of search and that’s why it is extremely important to do some keyword.

Research before you start creating content for your site, but keyword research can be a bit tedious and time-consuming, especially if you start from scratch and if you’re new to this SEO game, you won’t really know where to start here is a hack that not only will speed Up your keyword, research process, but will also give you the ammunition you need to generate lots of traffic head over to neil patel comm.

Slash, ubirr, suggest ubersuggest is an awesome tool for anyone to improve their organic traffic and perfect. For those of you on a very tight budget, because it’s totally free okay, so let’s imagine I run a dental practice in London and these guys are one of my competitors. Boleyn dental comm, just copy their website address and paste it in the uber suggests. Search box. Select the appropriate country and click the search button uber suggests will display a statistical overview of the performance of this particular website, which includes the number of organic keywords.

It ranks for the estimated monthly traffic they receive the strength of the site, as well as the number of Link’s pointing to the site. You can scroll down for more data, but what we want here are the keywords, this guy’s ranked for just click on the tab, organic keywords which will take you to all the keywords that drive traffic to this site. The results are organized by volume, which is the number of times keyword a search for every month, position, which is where this business ranks in Google.

For this keyword, the estimated number of visitors they get for that keyword, the webpage on that site that ranks for that keyword and, finally, the SEO difficulty, which is how competitive this keyword is pretty cool right. Click on the export button on the bottom of the page. To download the full list of keywords in CSV format, which you can import either in an Excel spreadsheet or a Google sheet where you can filter through the data easily, so it’s faster to identify the best opportunities.

What you are looking for our keywords with low difficulty and high volume, for which you are not ranking for repeat this process with all your competitors aside and start creating content on your own website to target all the keywords you have identified as being opportunities. This should yield a lot of traffic time to move on to hack number three find links that are pointing to your competitors website, but not yours.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ve, probably noticed. I talk frequently about the importance of getting external links. Pointing to your website. Links are one of the strongest signals Google uses to rank websites, the more quality links you have pointing to your site, the higher you will rank. This means that if your competitors have got better links pointing to their site than you, it is highly likely they will outrank you to beat them.

You just need to get better links pointing to your site, and why should you start by looking at your competitors? Links like we did with their keywords, go back to uber, suggest and enter one of your competitors web address. Let’S take with our dentist example. On the left hand, side menu select the option backlinks. This will show all the links that are pointing to this site. In this example, this website has two thousand six hundred and nineteen links coming from two hundred and seventy seven domains or, if you prefer web sites.

This means that some web sites have included more than one link on their pages, this dentist site to reduce your workload. You just want to identify only the web sites that are pointing to our competitors. We don’t need to see all the links to do. This make sure the one link per domain option is selected. The other thing we want to do is to select the follow option. The difference between a followed and a nofollow link is that Google doesn’t give any value to a nofollow link.

<img src="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/seo-single-page-websites.jpg” style=”width:500px”>

Therefore they don’t interest us. What we now have is a list of valuable links from unique web sites pointing to our competitors sites. All you need to do now is to go through each link by clicking on the open window icon and check if you can replicate what your competitor has done. Repeat this process with all your competitors site and export all the links in an Excel or Google sheets to make things easier to manage.

Let’S continue with hack number four identify citations inconsistency. If you don’t already know what a citation is, let me give you a brief recap. It is a mention of your business on the web, which generally includes the name the address and the phone number of your business, also known as nap. Citations are generally found in business directories such as yell, Yelp and many other specialized directories.

You can find a comprehensive list of the main directories where your business should be listed on my site at ranking academy da koat UK slash tools, slash business citations. If you haven’t done it yet, you should submit your business details to each and every one of these directories as they do influence rankings and help search engines. Trust your business is legitimate. The only caveat is your business.

Citations need to be a hundred percent identical across all directories. If they’re not, it will negatively impact your rankings and, obviously your traffic, and when you submit your business to multiple directories, it can be easy to make. A mistake here is an example of a dentist located in London called Camden high street dental practice, although it is correctly named in Google, my business and has the right address and phone number.

When I dig around the web, I can find this business listed under a different name in another couple of directories: the dental practice the postcode is also incorrectly displayed in Yelp and in Facebook. This type of inconsistency can be very harmful for your business, since Google will struggle to understand which business is, which you can verify the consistency of your citations manually if you want to, but it would take a lot of time and efforts and you’re not even guaranteed You will capture all of the errors either.

Instead, you can automate this process by using a tool called bright. Local write. Local is not free, but you can use it for free for two weeks without having to even enter a credit card which is more than enough for what we need to do so go to bright. Local com create an account once you’ve created and verified your account. You can add your business details using either your google, my business details or fetch your location manually, go through the location process, set up filling in all the details and let the tool pull out the data for your business.

This should take a bit of time, so be patient once finished, go to the main dashboard and sell the citations options in there. You should see where your business is mentioned across the web, and if there are any errors they will be highlighted in red. All you need to do now is correct. The errors, in addition, bright local, will also less directories where your business is not listed, which is the perfect opportunity for you to add more citations.

Let’S move on to hack number five increase your number of Google reviews with a custom build link. Did you know that reviews are the third most impactful indicator that Google looks at to rank businesses in a map pack? Well, you do now. This means the more reviews your business gets. The higher your business world rank in Google if those reviews are good, of course. Collecting reviews, however, is not always easy and can be a cumbersome process.

Many clients you deal with can’t be bothered to search for your business online, then search for the link where they can give you a review, etc. The trick here is to make it simple for them once you’ve finished dealing with the client just send them a quick email and ask them politely if they wouldn’t mind, leaving a review for your business. If you don’t know what to write download my review email template at the address showing on your screen or in the description.

But here is the real hack. Add a link in the email which, when clicked on, will open the Google review box for your business directly on your clients. Computer. All they need to do is write the review in the box. But how do you create the link? It couldn’t be any simpler right. Local I’ve just launched a nifty little tool completely free that allows you to do this in seconds head over to the address displayed on your screen, search for your business in the search box and click on the fetch links and ID button.

This will return. Three results. Click on the icon, next to the review link to copy the link and add it to your email. This will make the process so easy. You should see the number of reviews increased significantly along with your ranking and obviously the traffic to your site time to look at hack number six check your local positions in Google map. This is somehow a little similar to hack number one, but this time we only focus on the ranking positions in Google Maps, go to player, calm and choose the tools option from the main menu from the drop-down.

Select local rank, tracker, scroll down and start searching for. Your business add a keyword you want to check rankings for choose the distance between the pins that will get displayed on the map and a great size. The free version only allows you to pick three. You should start seeing where your business francs on Google Maps for the keyword you’ve selected. Why is this useful? Because you can easily identify areas where you’re just outside the map? Pack like position number four or number five, with a little bit of optimizing work? You should be able to climb a couple of positions, so you end up in the top three results and drive a lot more traffic to your site.

As I mentioned, the free version only allows you to choose a grid of up to three pins, but a full license for this only costs eighteen dollars a year. So it’s worth investing in it. Hack number, seven add quality content to your site. The quality and relevance of the content on your website is very important. The better your content is the more likely you will be rewarded by Google and the more traffic you will get.

But how do you find out? What type of content you should be adding to your site and how should you write it? Let’S go to uber suggests, once more and once again, let’s enter one of our competitors web address in the search box. Our dentist and click on search on the left hand, side menu click on the top pages option. This will show you the most popular pages for this site, based on the amount of traffic they receive like most sites.

The home page is the most popular one. So, let’s ignore it for now, let’s have a look at their content page instead at number two, I can see that a teeth. Whitening page is very popular and receives about 660 visitors a month, which is quite a lot and if you click on a view all option next to the page, it will show you the keywords that are driving traffic to the page, along with the rankings straight away.

I can see that teeth, whitening, London and best teeth whitening London – would be very relevant because they are very localized and although teeth whitening has a lot more potential in terms of volume, it is way too broad and likely to be very competitive. Since they’re ranked in position four and five for these terms, I wonder what their page looks like. So, let’s click on it. As you can see the page, it’s clearly optimized for teeth, whitening, London and is very decent, but the content is very thin.

So here is the hack if you want to get the chance to rank above your competitors, for the same keywords: just build better pages. Yes, it’s as simple as that. This dentist could have added a whole section around frequently asked questions: a article showing the process of teeth, whitening a price list, how to section that would explain how to look after your teeth once they’ve been whitened and much more.

That would make this space a lot more comprehensive and Google will see that and will reward you accordingly repeat this process with all your competitors and create better content every time it will pay off massively hack, number eight add popular Q & A s to your Google. My business profile – this is a widely overlooked feature in Google. My business and chances are your competitors aren’t doing it within Google, my business, you can add popular questions and answers.

The problem is anyone and everyone can ask questions and answer themselves on your own google listing which sometimes lead to some bad results. Would you want to see this in your profile? This Ellucian add your own questions and answers yourself. It will a prevent anyone from asking for something. That’S already been asked B, you will be able to give an accurate answer C. It will display right in your Google, my business panel, making your listing stand out and generate more traffic D.

It might even get displayed in Google search results. So what kind of questions should you put in there as a business owner? You know better than anybody else. What question people always ask time to put pen to paper and start collecting them, then add them to your Google, my business profile. You just bring up your business, listing click on the ask a question option and simply add both the question and the answer.

If you’re not sure what questions to add just head over to answer, the public comm tap a keyword related to your business in there and click on get questions. This will bring a list of the most common questions related to that keyword. Click on the data option to make this easier to read, find out what the most relevant questions are and write an answer for them then add them to your Google. My business ethic use final tip each question as a like option.

On yell.Com, which is a major directory in the UK Having your business listed in These is the foundation of any local SEO strategy and is important for two Reasons these directories very often rank at the top of search engine results. For local searches, which may include your business and drive traffic to your Site but more importantly, it helps create trust and legitimacy with Google Who will be discovering your business across all these platforms, But for Google, to establish trust your business information needs to be accurate and Consistent everywhere your business is mentioned.

You could check the Consistency and accuracy of your business information across the web, Manually, but to be honest with you, it is a very tedious exercise and can still Lead to errors Instead use a tool that will do the legwork for you in my Opinion bright, local is one of the best tools to just do that. Via a mobile phone, so if your website is not compatible, your business is really Going to suffer To quickly check if your website is adapted to multiple devices, Download this free, resizer app in Google Chrome then simulate your website view.

On the various devices available, The next thing we’re going to look at is Your home page Since the home page of your site is your most important page. It Deserves to be analyzed separately, as there are many things to take into Consideration To really maximize your SEO opportunities: this is what you Should check Is your title tag optimized and includes the keywords and the city Name, you are targeting.

Have you added a Meta Description to your page, compelling Enough, so that people will want to click on your listing in Google when they come Across your business is there a main title, also known as h1, which stands for Header, which also includes your main keyword and city name, Is there an Obvious call to action on the page, such as a phone number that is visible Without scrolling down Is the call to action visible on the mobile version of Your site, without scrolling down, is there enough content on your page? Think Of including your services and products, and whatever else you think, is relevant Are you linking to important sub pages from your home page, which you’d like Visitors to click to and Google to discover Do all your images have an alt Tag Are you talking about your location where your business operates? Have you embedded a Google map related to your business, so visitors can check Directions straight to you from your homepage: Does your page include your Name address and phone number, which is consistent with your Google, my business Listing Once you’ve completed all of the above, it’s time to analyze the rest of Your pages For this we’re going to use a tool which is going to speed up the Process enormously Go to ubersuggest.

Com And in the search box add your domain name. I am going to use the example of This dentist located in tampa florida Click on search. This will initially give You an overview of your website, which includes the number of organic keywords: You’Re ranking for the estimated organic traffic and the number of links pointing To your site, On the left hand, side choose site audit at the bottom of the Menu and click on search to trigger an automatic scan of your site, which should Take up to three minutes Once completed, you should see a breakdown of errors.

Warnings and recommendations Click on the first box to bring up the full list. In there you will be able to uncover issues with your pages, such as duplicate, Meta title low word count and missing headers across your site and fix them If You are unfamiliar with the errors, highlighted just click on the. What is This and how do I fix it, which is very helpful Since this is an automated scan? It doesn’t include every recommendation so once you’ve fixed the highlighted issues, I recommend you also check the following items for all your pages: Include the main, targeted keywords you are trying to rank for with your page And the city name in your main title tag Include the main targeted keywords: you Are trying to rank for with your page and the city name in your main header? Make sure the keywords is different from the home page and unique for each page.

Ensure your content is well structured and includes subheadings Add keywords in your subheadings, which are related to the main keywords you are Targeting for these pages Look at this example, One heading includes fuse box. And the other consumer unit, which are closely related. Finally, don’t forget to Add alt tags to your images Time to now. Look at how well your business is ranking in Google When it comes to local search.

Your business is likely to show in two distinctive areas within Google, The First, one is in Google Maps with your Google, my business listing, which will Also include the map pack, The second one is what I call the more traditional Results which sit below the map pack, which is where your business website Will be listed, It’s important to know how well your business ranks and for What keywords so you can monitor if any of the improvements that you have Implemented have made a difference to your ranking Head back to ubersuggest And re-enter your domain name, if needed On the main screen, click on the organic Keywords tab: This will show you all the keywords your website is ranking for in the Traditional results, you can even export the results in Excel, save the data and Recheck a few weeks later, so you can compare rankings and check if you have Gained any positions, If you are not ranking for any keywords between Position 1 and 10: it means you’re not on the first page of Google for any Keywords, so there is a lot of work to do To make things simpler, moving forward.

I suggest you create a profile in ubersuggest for your website, which will Track your progress automatically, so you don’t have to keep downloading Excel. Spreadsheets and see in seconds, if your doing well or not Unfortunately, ubersuggest doesn’t track rankings for Google. My business listings In Google Maps, so it only gives you half of the picture To do this head over to a Site called localFalcon.

Com Local Falcon is a software that allows you to Track how well your Google, my business listings, ranks directly on Google Maps For a given keyword, I love this tool as it is very visual and you can instantly Get a feel of how well or badly your business is doing. Local Falcon is not a Free tool, however, you can create an account and run one free scan, which will Give you a good idea of how powerful this can be for your business.

Let me run Through an example with another dentist, called Denton dental located in Nashville USA, Once you’ve created an account click on scan on the main menu Start typing your business name in the business field. It should come up. Automatically, Please note that if you have decided to hide Your business address in your Google, my business listing you won’t be able to Run the scan Add the keyword you want to target.

In this instance, we’re going to use “ dentist Nashville” Choose the radius you want to target and then the distance Either in miles or in kilometers, Then select the grid size, Click on run, search, You will see dots showing where your business ranks and in what position. Based on your criterias, Any position beyond three means: your business is not Featured in the map pack, which really is where you want to be Clicking on the Dots will give you access to more details and check which businesses Rank above you and how far down you are on the list, Local Falcon stores all your scans, so you can easily compare them and Understand if you are making any progress over time Time to move on to our last item external links, External links, pointing To your site are one of the most important factors that will influence Your online visibility, In summary, the more quality links you have pointing to Your website, the more relevant it will appear to Google, who will reward you With higher rankings, But how strong is your link profile? To check this go back to ubersuggest.

Com once more and search for your Domain On the main screen check what your domain score is. This score is Calculated on the basis of external links pointing to your site, The lower the score, the weaker the site Run the same scan for your competitor’s Site and look at their domain scores If your score is lower than theirs is Because they have more valuable links pointing to their site than you do This Means there is a great chance you will be ranking lower than they are for the Keywords, you are targeting.

The solution. Try getting more web sites to link to Yours, If you don’t know where to start, you can spy on your competitors, links by Clicking on their domain score, This will show all the links pointing to their Site Just try to get the same links as they do. That’S it for today now it’s Your turn Download the SEO audit checklist and run through each item. One By one, I’ve made this very simple to use just put a cross in Yes or no box and it will change color automatically Once completed.

You will See how well or badly you’re doing just by looking at the overall color scheme, And which item you need to address based on priority Hope you liked the article if You have any comments or questions post them below and until next time, happy Marketing

Indexing your PWA (Discoverability & SEO) – Progressive Web App Training

Every search engine has a different way of ranking pages, but they all depend on a web crawler to gather information, and when you build a JavaScript driven site, the crawler might not be able to find everything you might need to give it a little help.

While every search engine has its own way of crawling, there are two fairly obvious rules. First, if the crawler can’t see it, it’s not going to be indexed and everything needs its own URL. There may be a trivial solution for your site if customers always search for a landing page or other static content, but those pages be static content. This won’t index client rendered content, but that may be exactly what you want.

This does raise an interesting distinction. A PWA does not have to be a single page app, you could add a serviceworker do every page in a website or a multi page app. As long as these pages have the same origin and path, they will share a serviceworker. Another option is to serve a render the dynamic content and then let the client take over rendering this lets any crawler see and index. All of your content.

You can use these solutions with any crawler since there’s no JavaScript involved, and if you want your app to be indexed everywhere, you’ll have to render it on the server. You can write code that renders on the client or as server-side JavaScript, it’s called isomorphic JavaScript, but that assumes you’re using node or another JavaScript server. And if you want an easy test, you can run lighthouse.

It includes some basic SEO. Discoverability tests lighthouse runs some basic SEO tests as if you have an HTML only crawler each test has instructions for fixing or improving shortcomings. Okay, so the universal answer is not to depend on JavaScript, but Google’s crawler can run JavaScript. So you can index client rendered sites. As long as you follow some rules, there are about a dozen rules, but the top five will take you most of the way we’ve already covered.

The first rule make your content crawlable. That means rendering it so the crawler can find it. If you’re writing a single page app, the top five rules become these top five tips. Many developers provide navigation links with a hash for the URL and use a click listener. Instead, these should point to actual paths in your app to trigger changes. You also need to avoid URL fragments the part that begins with a hash sign these break many tools and libraries and are now deprecated.

We used to recommend hash-bang prefixes for crawling a jet-powered sites as a way to change URLs without reloading the page. But now you should use the history API. Instead, the next rule is to use canonical URLs for duplicate content. For example, amp pages normally have a server rendered page and the client rendered amp page. The client rendered page has a link back to the server rendered page using the rel equals canonical attribute.

The crawler will index the canonical server rendered page some developers, even shadow, their client rendered pages, with server rendered pages and use the canonical link to point back to the server. This makes more of the app discoverable tip. Number 4 also gives you great accessibility, use the native HTML elements whenever possible. Crawlers know what to do with an actual button, but won’t recognize a div of class button in the same way, finally use progressive enhancement, use polyfills, where it makes sense to support older browsers.

You never know which version of a browser is used in a particular crawler, so play it safe. Some simple changes can improve your data quality and give users much better results. One is to use the schema.Org annotations for structured data there, a predefined schema for common areas, such as e-commerce, scheduling and job postings search engines, can use the schema annotations to parse your data accurately.

The same logic applies to the Open Graph protocol, which allows any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. Finally, the Twitter cards provide a rich media card that displays, when anyone links to your site from Twitter, it’s important to test your work and work iteratively. So the you can see the effects of each change. Testing on multiple browsers is not only a best practice for everyday development.

It ensures your site renders correctly on multiple crawlers testing with the Google webmasters search console will crawl your site and show the result, and you should always pay attention to loading performance. Use tools such as PageSpeed insights or webpage tests to measure the loading performance of your site remember about 40 % of consumers will leave a page that takes longer than 3 seconds to load.

Of course, the most important rule is to treat client-side rendering as a progressive enhancement. If you test on a range of browsers, you’re, probably fine. If you want to be certain, you can use the fetch as Google tool on the site. If that went by a little fast see the Google Webmaster central blog for the details on how to make your PWA search ready. Then come back here and I’ll. Tell you how to measure user engagement in your PW A’s thanks for reading

Web Performance: SEO Mythbusting

Myth busting with me today Is Ada Rose, Cannon and you’re working for Samsung. Is that right? What do you do at Samsung? So for Samsung? I’M a developer advocate for the web browser Samsung Internet Samsung Internet is a web browser for Android phones.

You can get it from the Play Store, but not a lot of people have heard about it. So there’s lots. What I do is trying to raise awareness, but more importantly than that, What I’m trying to do is advocate for the web as a platform to try and encourage developers to build for it and to Make sure it lasts long into the future. As a great and healthy platform for people to build stuff with, I love to have you here, because I want to talk to you about the SEO Versus performance and usability on the web, and I think we need to get some stuff out of the way right.

So will you say what is the most important bits and pieces that you would like people to focus on more when building web stuff? So I have a huge passion for ensuring that That the web remains great for everyone around the world, Not just on people using the latest handsets and on desktop computers, Because most people aren’t people are using devices from years ago and low-end sub $ 100 devices, where, Frankly, today, the the modern web is just not even reaching them There’s a fantastic talk from Alex Russell Who goes into the the reality of people with phones that are less than $ 100 And yeah.

That’S a that’s! A fantastic one. You’D have the naive thought that, as time goes on, that phones are getting steadily better and at a bottom of the line phone is Nowadays is just as good at the top of line phone four years ago, when they’re, not It’s just getting wider and wider Wider. The chasm is opening, rather than anything else, What was really awesome. I heard recently Google was doing performance metrics into Into their ratings for search results.

I don’t So was this front-end web performance like render speed, making sure it’s not janky, or is this just Making sure that a page loads really quickly? So it is a little… It’S a it’s a tricky one, because we have so many metrics right. We have Time to first bite. We have time to interactive, We have time to first meaningful paint, and then you have like the frame rates and stuff.. Now Googlebot, which is the tool that basically fetches the data and renders your website for for Search Indexing.

We don’t really interact that much with the page, So we can’t really get like figure out if your scroll is smooth on something like that, but we do get the rendering bits. So we can tell you, when the page becomes responsive to inputs, when the content is ready for the user to consume, So we’re looking at the blend of these kind of modes Yeah of performance. Does that make sense? It does make sense.

So do you have any other qualms with like how SEO influences the daily work of a web developer? So a friend of mine recently rebuilt her site using React. She was very excited about it and and seemed to get quite good to client side performance Once it all loaded. Unfortunately, when she sent it out to her company’s Team to which does SEO analysis, they came back with an answer of. We love your site.

It’S really good, But you’ve basically don’t appear in the rankings, even though she could show them that look right there. It’S on Google Is Google engaging with people who do SEO analysis to ensure that They’re running up-to-date metrics, the similar ones to Google to ensure that even a heavily client-side rendered page, and They can feel confident that it is being measured. Well, So we can’t really Fix what people are doing in terms of what they were tools.

They’re using or something, But what we do want is we want to open this black box of SEO for everyone, So we’re having this conversation web developers We’re having this conversation with Seo and tool makers and we provide a bunch of metrics and tools as well. So we have search console that gives you a bunch of insights and how you’re doing in search so that you’re, not relying on someone else. Basically, sticking the finger in the wind and Reading the stars and stuff, and we also.

We also want to make sure that people are understanding that blanket statements like JavaScript’s going to kill your SEO or you cannot use, React or Angular that that’s not necessarily the best way of doing it. It’S a really comfortable answer, probably mmm. It’S not the right answer. Sometimes All right so at Chrome, Dev Summit. I saw your great talk on SEO in the web. Thank you, And one thing you mentioned was the the rendering for By Googlebot to actually process a JavaScript heavy site could take up to a week to happen.

Does this mean that JavaScript heavy sites are effectively getting penalized in Google Search results right, They’re, not getting penalized, so they are ranking just fine, but the indexing stage is where the problem is because, as you say, we are processing by putting them first into a rendering Queue and then eventually, As we have the resources available, We are rendering them and if the resources take a while to actually render That means that we cannot refresh the content in the index as quickly so News sites might want to look into that.

But then again you have usability issues anyways right, Yes right and that’s because that’s bad for the user. We try to find search results that are good for the users and If a page takes ages to load. That is not a good experience for me. So you want to fix that because of the users, not necessarily just because of the crawler. So if a page is Built using, I know I have a bit of a bias against these JavaScript heavy front-end client-side Rendered pages, because they’re terrible for everyone who doesn’t have like an iPhone or latest Pixel, or something Yeah or a desktop computer.

But anyway, for these sites, if the way they make their money is delivering fresh content daily. Does this mean that the content in the search results may actually be like out of date? For them They might be lagging? Then? Yes, absolutely And I think again, like it’s very important to get the users a great experience, and I don’t think you can do that when you are Heavily relying on client-side rendering, because good Devices might be really old, So yeah one way of working around.

Unless you want to Properly fix this and do hybrid, rendering or server-side rendering One way around of that is to do dynamic, rendering and basically like give us a static rendered version of your page for the crawler So that we can index it quicker. But that’s not making the user usability and user experience problems going. So what do you say it’s generally safer to rely more on on latest HTML and CSS, Knowing that they degrade more gracefully than JavaScript? Yes, Don’t speak! If you look at the the tristar of Technology that we have in the web platform like HTML, CSS and JavaScript, HTML and CSS are just more resilient than JavaScript, and so Relying on JavaScript, too heavily is always going to probably get you into trouble with certain ways And spotty network connections and stuff, So I would say, use polyfills use, progressive enhancement, use what the web platform offers you and use JavaScript responsibly Yeah.

It’S really great to hear, especially from a Googler that, like reducing reliance on JavaScript and Taking advantage of good HTML and CSS, where it’s available can can actually wonders for your SEO. Absolutely Ada. Thank you so much for being here and talking to me about performance and SEO, and I do you have a feeling that SEO and web developers can work together nicer or is there still…? I think, as long as the goals of what people are trying to accomplish are clear and we’re not just like resorting to auguries or looking at the stars to work out what Google is thinking, then it’s going to Enabled developers to actually build sites that make sense And take advantage of that platform, Anything Google can do to ensure that the web works for everyone and not just in the wealthy Western web, then It’ll be really really fantastic.

Fantastic closing words. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you This just in the next episode of SEO. Myth-Busting is going to be about SEO in the age of frameworks, Jason Miller, and I will talk about what that entails. So stay tuned on this blog Subscribe to Google webmasters and see you soon.

SEO: where search engine results come from

So here’s a search result and a series of search results. Anyways, and you can see the top three right here. The first thing to notice is this big link that everyone clicks on the content inside here is the title tag of your HTML file. So if I have an empty HTML file right here, whatever you type in between the title tags here shows up right here.

So that’s a very important section for keywords: it’s the section that most people read not too many people actually read the description underneath. But the title here is extremely important because that’s what people see as well as Google uses the keywords from the title when displaying search results. Another thing that’s important to our website is this description. Underneath here this description can come from one of two places: either the Meta Description tag in our HTML, so we could have a tag like this at a name equals description and content equals whatever and put a small description in here.

So this will either come from that tag or it will come from the first paragraph on your page, so it will come from here now, there’s no way for us to tell Google which to choose either the first paragraph or the Meta Description. Google just figures out whichever one is more appropriate, whichever one is more targeted to humans and that’s what we’ll be choose chosen. So the description here and the title here, we have control over another place.

That Google looks for keywords, as you can see. Right here is the URL you’ll notice that the keyword, dinosaur or dime soars down here has been highlighted in the URL, showing you that the URL that you choose for your website actually impacts your search results. There’S a few other things right here. These links underneath the search results. We don’t really have any control over those Google figures out.

What links are important and shows them at the bottom, underneath the search results right here for this movie or this is the TV series. Actually, you can see there’s a rating, so it’s giving us a star rating and a numerical version and how many votes this information here is taken from the enhanced metadata supplied by the website and then we’ll look at that in future articles. So what we’re seeing here in the search results page is a few things.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bpE-bIX1z9M

The blue is the title. The green is the URL that we’ve chosen and you can see it’s matching keywords in that, and then this here is either the first paragraph on the site or the meta description. So that’s where Google gets the content to display in its search results page and the same thing applies to other search engines like DuckDuckGo and Bing. So the same sort of techniques are applied for those also

London SEO | Search Engine Optimisation UK

What am I going to be doing for you, I’m going to be showing you the opportunity that you have by using google SEO and what is SEO search engine optimization? How can you scale a business using google all right and i’m going to jump in to get showing you a guinea pig quote, unquote and show you an eps aight that is not doing so well and the possibilities that it could be having if it invested into Someone that knows SEO pretty much and what does that feel we’re going to get you higher in the google rankings, because eighty-two percent your customers are going to google and type in whatever company or niche you’re in there typing housecleaning slower london all right, wherever you’re located In the country doing business and in the market alright, and then i’m going to jump in to you about facebook advertising, why should you mark it on facebook and how can you scale your business with facebook? Alright, so let me just drop right into the article so we’re on nap local comm.

You can visit us here for more information. Alright, so, as I understand you know, you guys are getting into, you may be getting into the house cleaning business, so your customers are going to want to go to google and type in house cleaning just like anybody else. So, according to google in SLO house cleaning is getting searched between 2002 2200 times per month every single month year round. Okay, just in that one area at about a 10 mile radius or so so, as you can see, we can have all the most profitable keywords that people are searching for on google.

So we want to get you ranked in all of these keywords. Alright. So how do we get you there? Ok, so google has an algorithm. It has 200 determining factors, but i’m not going to talk to you about all 200 because we’ll be sitting here for an out for hours, i’m going to talk about for the most important ones. All right, once we nailed these everything else, kind of falls into place. Okay. The first thing is: let’s pick a guinea pig, let’s pick on a website that is not doing so well, ok, so I chose to go with green cleaning service co.

Uk, okay and I am using a UK search engine for google okay, so this is local searches in Google. All right, these guys are ranked number eight. So let me show you this chart all right. So when you are ranked number one you control about thirty. Three percent of all the clicks, but when you’re ranked number eight you maybe get three or four percent and, as you can see page to you might as well be on page twenty because nobody’s really clicking on that page.

Okay. So let me show you this. Guy number: eight verses, the guy. That’S ranked number one: that’s controlling all of the business, that’s gumtree, alright! So here’s the guy, that’s ranked memory. Alright, green cleaning services he’s getting almost no traffic to the website, all right and here’s another metric that we can use. Almost no traffic to the website two clicks a month. All right. Now: here’s gumtree, almost a million clicks per month, a million visitors every single month.

Okay, granted there, a bigger company they’re, probably do business in other cities, but that is the potential market that you could be reaching by getting on google for these profitable keywords – and we have the information right here. Just how do we do it right? So again, i’m not going to talked about all that all all of it, but i’m using these guys as a guinea pig all right. The first thing when we go to their website, do they have what’s called authoritative content? Are they mentioning all of these services, all of the keywords and abundance? Okay? So, as you can see, these guys actually have quite a bit of content, but the problem is: they are not mentioning all of these keywords.

Okay, if you read through their website, it has almost nothing to do with most of the services that they’re providing. They need to be mentioning housecleaning, slaw, slaw, housecleaning and a whole bunch of stuff. You want to have massive amounts of content on the page, so these guys probably have about 1000 of 1500 words, but it doesn’t stop there. You want to add this is a large market. Okay, we’re competing with really really big companies all right, so we need to have a lot of content on the page and we need to be bolding out information, that’s relevant, so every single keyword we mentioned.

We want to have it in bold kind of like they have here, but there they have molded window cleaning and a tendency cleaning. They need to be bolding, housecleaning slaw. You know home cleaning, slog best cleaners and slob all that stuff. Okay, they’re only getting they’re not getting any visitors any month, maybe one or two: that’s it all right. So what do I mean by authoritative content? If you go to Google any type in elephant Wikipedia always shows up number one because of the authoritative contents.

Look at this page and less information on elephants, their evolution, what they eat everything I love using this example, because it’s true look at all this content. This is what your page needs to look like. You need to have like this much information on your page. If you’re going to compete in a large market, especially housecleaning, okay, because there’s so many so many competitors, but you can do it if you have the right process.

So what I recommend is building a brand new site all right for you guys, if you don’t have this a brand new site with anywhere between three thousand to four thousand words and this using all this keyword. Research building it with all these keywords in the home page and that’s just going to tell Google hey, read because Google reads content and if you’re going to rank for keywords, google has to be able to read that content on your page.

Also, photos like this need to be named correctly with SEO in mind okay, so this is very important. Alright and then you want to have your address in the footer. Okay, I don’t see any address here in the footer phone numbers. None of these phone numbers are clickable, this one’s clickable, okay, email in a top right corner, not clickable. Okay, that’s very important. The next thing your site has to be mobile-friendly, which they are.

This means because eighty percent of your customers are actually going to be looking at your website through a mobile device and an iphone or some type of mobile cell phone device. Okay, so it has to be mobile-friendly which they are so that’s good before. The third thing is local citations, so whatever I come to the search engine, okay, let’s go back to the search. You see that these guys are actually ranked at the top of this search and what’s happening here.

The problem here is there only focusing on this. One keyword: okay, they’re only listed as a local service – we’re here, they’re at the top of here, but they’re not showing up in this map. You don’t see them on this map above okay they’re. Only focusing on this one keyword, if you search all the other keywords. Okay, if I go to my google keyword planner, I can see that house cleaning is only can search, maybe 20 times a month, but there’s cleaning services, there’s house cleaning services, there’s cleaning companies, home cleaning services, house cleaners, maid service, home cleaning, cleaning company made the maids Clean house there’s all these keywords and they’re, focusing on just the one.

Alright, so almost no one is clicking. Most people are going to click from here. There’S about forty percent of all the clicks, actually more than that are going to come from here then they’re going to go to the local all right and you need to their spread there so spend they need to be focusing on all of these keywords. Okay, so you have to be at the top of the locals – that’s important, but you want to be in multiple keywords to all right: some examples to get there.

You have to be listed in google, yahoo, being yellowpages, whitepages, facebook and all that stuff and that’s going to build your local citations. It’S just online directories that tells Google hey I’m listed in all these directories. Take me more serious and give me higher rankings. Okay, the last thing I’m going talk to you about is pretty much the power of your website. So for these guys you know Facebook want to know how popular are you online? You know do people care about your website what other websites are mentioning you online, and these are called you get these through.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L6P9vbSzXjA

What’S called backlinks, okay, so right now, green queen has 10 websites mentioning them at 141 times. Okay, which is okay, but look at their trust flow. This is the quality of their site, which is 0 all right now. 0. Let me show you this chart. This shows you the quality meter, okay, so at a zero there at the lowest quality all the businesses on page, one of Google are going to have a 20 trust flow or high.

If they’re going to be ranked number one they’re going to be 20 or higher, and that’s where you want to be that’s the type of quality that you need to rank in your business and that’s the reason why they’re ranked number eight on organic rankings. Okay, all the way down here, all right, let me show you our website, amp local comm, to give you an example all right, so when I copy and paste this into here, ok, I copy and paste it into here all right and look at the trust flow Of this side of 21 links, 250 backlinks trustful, Oh 26.

Alright! So, as you can see all right, so, as you can see, this is off the charts that’s way above 25. So that’s the type of power that you need on your site. So let me show you an example: if you go to google for United States and you type in San Diego SEO, all right, you find amped local right here at number. Three okay SEO is probably one of the biggest competitive niches in the world. Why? Because the people that really know how to do it are in the top three and we’re in the top three for a 3 million population city.

Okay, so that’s to give you an example of why links are so important. Okay, so you want to have powerful links and that’s what we’re going to help you get there. Okay, so that, in a nutshell, is SEO, you know and hot, and how to get you this so get in a new site, getting a mobile-friendly getting caught great content on there. Getting the citations and the links is going to build you a powerful site and get you in the position to be where these guys are at getting 1 million visitors and slow and London and that they’re using in that area.

Ok! So now let me jump into facebook advertising. Ok, so you asked me to talk to you about how I can get you leads for maybe for house cleaning right and also for teleprompter enting. Ok, so I went into facebook and just targeted some of that just so. I can see like what the market looks like, so I went to slaughter in 10 mile radius. Ok, I targeted people that have a little bit more money, 2665 men and women, and I put a whole bunch of interest the people that would need to rent these teleprompters.

Ok, i’m not going to go into all of the details of that, but, as you can see, I would perfectly target a campaign. Ok and I could reach about 53,000 qualified people that are in the market for teleprompters alright, so we can mark it to them and reach them. Just like I told you about and we’ll be able to generate leads for that. Let me show you for house cleaning. Did the same thing: slow, England, 25 to 20, 26 or 65, but I targeted people that own homes on live in condos, there’s been a family-based home that rented homes, people that would actually need that service have a perfectly targeted campaign.

It’S right in senator green and have a hundred and sixty thousand people that I can reach all right. So, yes, we can target people based off their interest, demographics pages they like things they mentioned online and that’s how we’re going to put ads in front of people. So what does that add? Look like. Let me give you an example: all right, all right, here’s an ad that we did for carpet cleaning company okay, so it pretty much the advil to call out the local city asked the question they’re going to say yes to put links to landing pages, get them Get their special offer get their attention and get them to click on an ad okay.

One thing that we really like to do I’ll give you a better example, is create ads like this, where we’re offering a special offer. Ok, we asked a question that their answer. Yes to do you hate your, do you love your car, but you hate when its dirty? Ok, this is auto detailing ok, they’re, going to go out and clean people’s cars and wash them and detail them we’re giving away 50 percent off auto detailing package 30 people.

This week treat your car truck and artery to a treatment and our Auto Spa things of that nature and we click the call. Now that’s the call to action. Ok, fifty percent off so creating some type of special offer to bring people in your business and make them repeat. Customers is a great way to get business. Ok and it could be like a free trial. It could be twenty five percent off. It could be something for free right, then they click the add alright, and then they go to pages that look like this ok down.

This is for the carpet cleaning one all right, but you know there’s multiple ways. We can do this, but pretty much what it says is: do you want your special offer? The fifty percent off carpet cleaning sign up for the special Facebook offer 11 coupons left. They click this and we get them to give our name email phone number to send the coupon. Ok they’ll get the coupon. Now you have the personal information, that’s a lead that you can call to do business with, and then it goes to a page like this.

Hey due to the limit, no more coupons, please call first call basis to get your to get to offer and also special offer bonus. Offer will give you an additional bonus offer if you call now ok – and this is how you generate inbound calls – and this is all has to do with psychology – the psychology of the Facebook user – and this is how we can generate more business for you, whether it Be for house cleaning or for the teleprompter all right and the whole fun will be custom-built already targeted the audience’s that I showed you, but this will be your your.

We can target your. You know custom campaigns as well, just like this all right, so I really hope that makes sense. We can generate a lot of business and just to give you an example, you know I have this pulled up. These are some metrics from one client that we’re doing that were that’s doing auto detailing, and you know oil accident repair window tinting. He does all that cool stuff, and you can see that this is our cost per lead.

Okay, this is how many leads he’s generated, and this is the cost per lead. So we have three campaigns that we tested we’re going to switch this one back on. I think this evening, but as you can see we’re getting a lead for a dollar 33. Okay. This one’s for 378 and this one’s for a dollar 78 all right. Imagine having someone come into your business for a dollar. What, if we can get you a lead for a dollar? Okay, that’s huge, let’s say four: five dollars: what if you get someone’s personal contact? Information for five bucks and say you have a closing rate of twenty percent, which these guys have a closing rate of about twenty percent.

Okay, I’m sure that would be incredibly incredibly valuable to you if you can get an actual closing curl Ike 25 euro. Let’S put it in your money: 25 euros: okay for home cleaning for 300 euros; that’s a huge roi, okay same thing for teleprompter; okay! So that’s the type of business. Now, as far as how many leads I can get you and what the cost is per lead. Like I told you the first two to four weeks, that is the golden time where we find out your numbers.

You know we run tests, we run campaigns and figure out exactly how much we’re paying per campaign per lead and then tell you hey for 500 bucks. We were able to get you a lead for two dollars or three dollars now, it’s time to go up to, let’s spend two thousand dollars and scale your business. That way! That’S what you need to do, that’s how we do it, we’re not just going to jump, jump three, four or five thousands of dollars into a campaign, not knowing the metrics.

We have to figure out your metrics okay, so that, in a nutshell, is SEO and Facebook advertising all right, portela, Panthers and health claims. So we can do it. It’S doable! I’M really looking forward to helping you. You have my contact information, please reach out, and I look forward to hearing from you. So thank you so much for reading and I’ll be in touch bye-bye.

Search Engine Optimization (part 1)

It’S a search engine, optimization service and you’ll, be explaining what that’s all about thanks for joining us Chris. You bet thanks for having me on today. Well, for the sake of brevity here. Let’S go ahead and refer to search engine optimization by its industry. Shorthand initials SEO stands for search engine optimization Chris, just what is SEO and why is it important to online marketing? Well, SEO is a track of skills that helps a website be found, and what’s happened? Is the internet is put the power into people’s hands the consumers hands, while traditional media marketing has always pushed the messaging at people, the internet really asked people to pull it from them.

So most online sessions include querying a search engine and that event is the marketers opportunity to be present on the search result without applying SEO to a site. It won’t be present for the search results. So it’s a very important aspect of having a website today. In kind of a new twist on the old saying that, if you build it, they they will come, but really if they can’t find you they’re not going to come at all.

Are they exactly so you better build it right? Well, who needs SEO and what sorts of companies are you working with? Are they large companies small companies? Well, we deal with all sizes. We have a lot of state associations, visitor centers for States and things like that, and then we have a lot of mom pop businesses for sure. A lot of our business has sprung out of my past life, which was marketing in the hospitality industry, and so that kind of gave us an ability to leverage ourselves into the search engine, optimization business.

But basically, unless a website is designed just to be shown when someone – and it is asked about it – in other words, if if a business owner was asked, do you have a website and he gave somebody in a dress that would send somebody to that website. But if that’s all, you ever do with your websites and that’s all you ever have to do, but as we know what we’re really trying to do with web site to get our message out to new people, people who have never heard of us.

So in that aspect everybody needs SEO, because really, if you don’t optimize your site for search engines, how is anybody going to find you out there? It’S really quite a revolution in the marketing model? Isn’T it we’re now just for the cost of getting a host, which quite often is free and putting up some creative content and getting yourself well placed in a search engine? The small guy is on equal footing with the big guys.

Aren’T they to some degree? Absolutely. I mean for a hundred years, marketing and advertising was about shouting about who we were and hoping that people would take notice of us, and now we basically sit in a library waiting for someone to find us so very, very different methods. So you can succeed simply by being clever these days very much so when there still is room for four people with great ideas and not a pocket full of cash for sure.

Well, what are some of the general principles of SEO? Where does it all start? Well, in one word Steven, it’s definitely relevant. All items on your page have to be congruent with each other, and this is a lot of what people miss, because it’s so simple and what I try to have people understand is a search. Engine is just a computer application. If you will all it seizes pluses and minuses, and so it has to be able to add something up from all of that and come up with an answer, so you have to give them the answers.

Who are you? What do you do? Why do you do it when you do it and where do you do it? If you don’t answer those age-old questions of marketing, then there’s no way for the search engines really to be able to compile that information and index you correctly into their collection of literally hundreds of millions of websites well and they’re, pretty clever at that, aren’t they. I know they have certain algorithms, that these search engines use, and quite often their top secret, that Google algorithm.

Sometimes it seems that people are focusing on trying to chase the algorithm, rather than simply starting with the fundamentals that you talk about is who are you targeting and and what value? What content are you going to provide? Well you’ve got that right. If you’re an expert done safe flying pigs, but your site talks about the birds and the bees, you’ll fall short of your goals. To be sure, I want to quickly do a Google search on flying pigs.

I imagine there’s probably a website specializing in it. How about some of the specific fundamental steps that you take when you’re, providing your your search, optimization service, one or three or four fundamental steps that you offer well given the opportunity to get involved with a client early on in their process of either creating or redesigning A website there’s a lot of things we can do before.

Even one piece of code has been written, it’s so important, especially these days that a site be built. What we called search engine friendly and what I mean when I say search engine friendly, is that a computer application such as a search engine is able to do some things, but it’s not able to do other things. So if you build a website that makes it hard for the search engine to traverse across all of your pages and your navigation and your links, then it’s not going to find all of your information.

So we get in right at the beginning with the web designers and make sure that the site is being built search. Engine friendly, for example, fret using frames, might not necessarily be a friendly thing to do absolutely frames. Overuse of flash there’s there’s a number of pitfalls to be sure, there’s literally dozens of types of code that will display a web page, but not all of them will will allow us their tension to read it.

So all these great bells and whistles might be good for holding somebody once they get there, but isn’t necessarily going to work to attract them in the first place. Exactly I mean if we’re not on the first page of Google, for what it is, we’re offering our chances of being found, at least through search or slim, to none yeah. I’Ve heard quite often in studies, you may get millions of returns, but if you’re not in the top ten or the top twenty, you might as well, not even be there or what? If you optimize yourself for something, you think would bring you a lot of traffic, but it’s completely irrelevant and you find yourself getting a thousand visitors a day who have no interest in what issue offer people do that at more and then you would believe.

After after we have a search engine friendly site design, the most important thing that can be done on the page on each page of the website is make sure that correct titles and meta descriptions are used that match the content of the site. It has to be targeted at specific search phrases that have been proven through research that you’ve done to be the way that people actually search for what it is you offer we can’t just assume.

We know how people search we have to go out and do the research as to how they actually perform the searches that they do that bring up the websites that they’re looking for now may toe tags may sound like a fairly complicated concept of people who aren’t Used to actually web design web development, but it seems to me it’s one of the simplest things to do for most effective return on your efforts ago with search engines.

It’S very simple, very obvious. There are a few rules, and most people completely forget about it by the time they get to that part of their web design. They’Ve spent so much time and effort coming up with good graphics and writing whatever their their information is the simplest things get missed and that’s where the opportunity lies for people who are paying attention for sure, which is all for naught if it’s not optimized, for the Searches well – and you know finally, an interesting thing about websites.

Is there never finished? You know that the final of three fundamentals that that I list for people is that always be considering that you have never-ending improvement in growth of what was originally unique content that you wrote, in other words, don’t go and steal a bunch of content from someone else And expect to do very well for the search, especially if you never go on to go back to that patient and work it over even more.

So you want to think of yourself as being a contributor to the web and not just adding more noise to all of that. That’S out there it’s a never-ending process, that’s for sure, as the Internet itself, and can you think of any industry that you have ever seen that it has revolutionized the marketplace so quickly is the internet? Look at what’s happened in just the last decade? Absolutely – and you know, I would bet that people from the 30s would say that direct mail certainly change things and it did back.

Then this is nothing more and nothing less than that. It just has the ability to reach people is like nothing ever before. What is a job like for a SEO specialist? Does it give you flexible time with your online work? Does it give you free time for some of the other projects that you might be working on? Oh absolutely, but I caution people that if you don’t enjoy the work that you do, this will be drudgery like nothing else, so very specialized.

The vital research and I like competing, and so those two things are what I spend the majority of my time doing. The writing of titles and descriptions and tweaking people’s content. So it’s congruent with that is the easy part.

How to hire an SEO

Optimization some SEO seems like black magic. Having worked with Google search for over a decade, what I’ve learned is that, first, it’s not black magic and second, if you want long-term success, there aren’t any quick magical tricks that an SEO will provide so that your site ranks number one.

It’S important to note that an SEO potential is only as high as the quality of your business or website so successful SEO helps your website put your best foot forward so that it ranks appropriately in the spot, where an unbiased potential customer would expect your site to Be seen a successful SEO also looks to improve the entire searcher experience from search results to clicking on your website and potentially converting a good SEO will recommend best practices for a search friendly site from basic things like descriptive, page titles for a blog or small business.

To more complex things like language markup for a multilingual global site SEO is ensure that you’re serving your online customers a good experience, especially those coming from a search engine, and that your site is helpful, whether they’re using a desktop computer or mobile phone. In most cases, the SEO will need four months to a year to help your business first implement improvements and then see potential benefit.

My strongest advice when working with an SEO is to request if they corroborate their recommendation with a documented statement from Google, either in a Help Center article, article or Google, a response in a forum that supports both one the SEO description of the issue. That needs to be improved to help with ranking and to the approach they prescribed to accomplishing this tasks. Requesting these two bits of information will help prevent hiring a poor SEO who might otherwise convince you to do useless things like add more words to the keyword, meta tag or by links, because if you search for google advice on this topic, you’d see blog posts and Articles from us that clearly explain that adding keywords to the meta tag wouldn’t help.

Furthermore, while google uses links for page rank, our documentation highlights that we strongly advise against the approach of buying links for the purpose of increasing page rank. One basic rule is that, in a majority of cases, doing what’s good for SEO is also doing what’s good for your online customers. Things like having a mobile-friendly website, good navigation and building a great brand. Additionally, if you’re a more established brand with complicated legacy systems, then good search, friendly best practices likely involved, paying off some of your site’s technical debt, such as updating your infrastructure, so that your website is agile and able to implement features faster in the long term.

If you own a small local business, you can probably do the initial work yourself check out our 30-minute article series on how to build an online presence for your local business. Now, if you still believe you want to hire an SEO, here’s a general process, one conduct a two way interview with your potential SEO check that they seem generally interested in you and your business to check their references.

Three act: four and you’ll probably have to pay for a technical and search audit 4. Decide if you want to hire, let’s break this down and start with step 1 conduct. A two-way interview in the interview here are some things: to look for. A good SEO. Doesn’T focus only on search engine ranking, but how they can help your business, so they should ask questions like what makes your business content and/or service, unique and therefore valuable to customers.

They want to know this information to make sure it’s highlighted on your website. For your current and potential new audience, what does your common customer look like and how do they currently find your website 3? How does your business make money and how can search help for what other blogs are you using offline advertising social networks 5? Who are your competitors? What do they do well online and potentially offline if the SEO doesn’t seem interested in learning about your business from a holistic standpoint, look elsewhere, it’s difficult to do good SEO without knowing about a business’s goals, their customers and other existing marketing efforts.

Seo should complement your existing work. The second step in hiring an SEO is to check references if your potential SEO provides prior clients be sure to check their references. You want to hear from past clients that the SEO was able to provide useful guidance and worked effectively with their developers, designers, UX researchers and our marketers. A good SEO should feel like someone you can work with learn from experiment with and who generally cares about you and your business, not just getting your site the highest rank as ultimately those techniques rarely last long if they work at all, they’ll want to educate you And your staff on how search engines work so that SEO becomes part of your general business operations.

Step 3 is to request a technical and search audit. If you trust your SEO, candidate, give them restricted view, not full or right access to your Google search console data, and even your analytics data before they actually modify anything on your website have them conduct a technical and search audit. To give you a prioritized list of what they think should be improved for SEO, if you’re a larger business, you can hire multiple SEO to run audits and prioritize improvements, see what each has to say and then determine who you could work with the best in the Audit the SEO should prioritize improvements with a structure like one the issue to the suggested improvement 3: an estimate on the overall investment, in other words the time energy or money.

It would take for your developers to implement the improvement and for Google search as well as searchers and customers to recognize the improvement. The SEO will need to talk with your developers to better understand what technical constraints may exist for the estimated positive business impact. The impact might be a ranking improvement that will lead to more visitors and conversions, or perhaps the positive impact comes from a back-end change that cleans up your site and helps your brand be more agile in the future.

Five, a plan of how to iterate and improve on the implementation, or perhaps how to experiment and fail fast, should the results not meet expectations that covers the structure of the technical and search audit. Now, let’s talk about each of these audits individually in the technical audit, your SEO should be able to review your site for issues related to internal, linking crawl ability, URL parameters, server connectivity and response codes, to name some if they mention that your site has duplicate content Problems that need to be corrected make sure they show you the specific URLs that are competing for the same query or that they explained it should be cleaned up for long term site health, not initial growth.

I mention this because lots of duplicate content exists on web sites and often it’s not a pressing problem in this search audit. Your potential SEO will likely break down your search. Queries into categories like branded and unbranded terms. Branded terms are those with your business or website‘s. Name like a search for Gmail is a branded term, while the search for email is an unbranded or general keyword.

An SEO should make sure that for branded queries such as Gmail, your website is providing a great experience that allows customers who know your brand or website to easily find exactly what they need and potentially convert. They might recommend improvements that help the entire searcher experience from what the searcher sees in search results to when they click on a result and use your website for unbranded queries.

An SEO can help you better make sense of the online competitive landscape. They can tell you things like here are the types of queries. It would make sense for your business to rank, but here’s what your competition is done and why I think they rank where they do. For instance, perhaps your competition has great reviews, really shareable content, or they run a highly reputable site. An SEO will provide recommendations for how to improve rankings for these queries and the entire searcher experience.

They’Ll introduce ideas like update, obsolete content. They might say your site is suffering because some of your well ranking content is obsolete. Has poor navigation a useless page title or isn’t mobile-friendly, let’s improve these pages and see if more website visitors convert and purchase or if they can micro convert, meaning that perhaps they subscribe or share content improve internal linking your SEO might say your site is suffering because Some of your best articles are too far from the homepage, and users would have a hard time finding it.

We can better internally link to your content to feature it more prominently, generate buzz. The SEO might say you have great content, but not enough people know we can try to get more user interaction and generate buzz, perhaps through social media or business relationships. This will help us attract more potential customers and perhaps garner natural links to your site. Learn from the competition your SEO might explain here’s what your competitors do well.

Can you reach parity with this and potentially surpass them in utilities? Or can you better show customers your business’s, unique value again, a good SEO will try to prioritize what ideas can bring your business, the most improvement for the least investment and what improvements may take more time, but help growth in the long term. Once they talk with you and other members of your team, such as developers or marketers, they’ll help your business forge a path ahead.

The last thing I want to mention is that when I talk with SEO s, one of the biggest holdups to improving away site, isn’t there recommendation, but it’s the business making time to implement their ideas if you’re not ready to commit to making SEO improvements. While getting an SEO, audit may be helpful, make sure that your entire organization is on board else. Your SEO improvements may be non-existent, regardless of who you hire so that wraps it up thanks for reading and best of luck to you and your business
