Who is helping with your digital business footprint?
Now. The reason why I’m doing this is because I recently readed the Tiger King murder, mayhem and madness serious on Netflix, and I know a lot of people have been talking about it, that’s kind of how it you know I heard about it, because people were sharing it Online and then I happen to see characters in there or people that are portrayed in there, and I wouldn’t want to say people because they’re kind of being turned in or made into these characters.
But I actually know them for real, and I know how they are. On real life versus how they’re actually being shown so first thing, maybe I’ll talk about is obviously as a filmmaker it. Whatever subject you’re going to be talking about in your documentary or whatever, whatever it is, that you know kind of a article storytelling that you’re going to be doing whatever form? Are you working in the first, I would say, good tip is to always start with getting as much footage as you can, and especially for a documentary, because the more footage you have and the more obviously different versions of it, then the more options you’ll have and Editing, if you have our limited footage, there’s only so much you can do in editing the most notorious cub breeder petting operation is doc.
Antal he’s fearless, you know. Unfortunately it is what it is. You know. Animals are kept in cages and I think again, by keeping them locked up or keeping them in these places. You know like the Myrtle Beach Safari, where it’s that I think it’s sad, that they are doing things like that and some so it doesn’t seem like anyone has a clear understanding of what’s happening to the animals there, but whatever it is, it’s a reflection of the Leader himself: well, the main guy there’s dr.
Antle he’s the one that basically, is the host he’s the main guy. If you want to judge him, judge him by how he treats the animals just doing it for the end for the money there’s a war in America. That’s being fought for an enormous amount of money, the animal rights activist – they want the lion’s share and they don’t want to share their lions. Some people have been accusing private zoos of animal abuse, including forcing the animals to do tricks just to keep the guests happy.
I don’t know if I wan na talk to you and they kind of be kind of have to be a little heartless to do things like that, because it’s hard yeah somehow. I think anybody that works in these places and I think they really want to do good, but, ultimately you know nobody and no animal should be caged. So what you guys just readed is a little edit of an interview. I did with my wife about our friends from Myrtle Beach Safari and when I showed her the final edit, let’s just say she wasn’t very happy with it.
I know what you’re trying to do you’re making me look like I didn’t say that, and the reason is because the actual interview with my wife was about 40 minutes long, and it was loaded with a lot of different questions about even at different topics, but questions That I knew in editing would give me options to actually be able to edit her talking in such a way that it would look like she’s, actually saying bad things about our friends in Myrtle Beach.
So now let me actually show you the version of the edit that my wife did like the most notorious cub breeder petting operation is doc. Antal he’s fearless, so the latest Netflix documentary Tiger king made some pretty bold accusations against some of the folks behind the Myrtle Beach Safari. But how about we hear from someone who knows him personally? Well, the main guy their stock can tell he’s the main guy he’s very charismatic, he’s very he’s a very nice person.
We had the opportunity to meet him outside of the Safari Park and you know he was very welcoming to us and in his home and his property I felt at home. I felt very comfortable with him and I felt that he was very genuine towards the love he has for the animals and you know towards towards us as well. So I think that organisations like the one that talked until runs are doing their part for conservation right or the species of these animals, and – and I really enjoyed the work they do like it, you can tell that they really loved it, even if they have to Work the whole year, it’s something that they are willing to do because they love these animals and they really want the best for them.
Another accusation of the Netflix documentary makes is that all of this is simply being done for money. I don’t think they’re doing this. For profit at all, because they’re, not flashy people, they don’t have designer clothes or like the latest car or going on on like trips and all these things you know just being flashy out there, just a normal life. They don’t have mansions and yachts and boats.
I really feel that it’s a good thing, what they’re doing with the with the Tigers and and and the other animals that they have there. They really have a love for them and a passion and they take care of them dearly as if they were one of their kids among the many animals they have this facility. They even have an elephant named bubbles, the bubbles she’s happy. She loves people, she loves being around people so for her, it’s a game.
She was playing with us. We weren’t playing with her. She was playing with us, so no for her. It was fun, see she enjoyed it and she was very, very intelligent. Some people been accusing private zoos of animal abuse, including forcing the animals to do tricks just to keep the guests happy. Well, she wanted to play she loved it. She loves the water for her psyche. Oh my god, I’m going in the water or it’s like.
No. I want to play when I wouldn’t play my way and that’s when dog has to be there every day, huh huh not like that. That’s too rough, but no, she loves because she helps you up in her back with her trunk or she’ll bend over. You know she’ll kneel, so she can let you in her back and yeah. She she saw she’s up for it. What I like about the survive is that they have more space to run and to to be themselves, whereas in the zoo, it is it’s exactly what you see that little space, that that is where the animal lives, and that is it.
So, in the end, what does someone who actually knows the folks behind Myrtle Beach, Safari? Think of the latest Netflix series? I don’t like things that are for sensationalism and that are going to twist people’s words and are trying to make people that I personal you know. Look bad if you have the opportunity to go and visit the Myrtle Beach Safari, and I think you should do it. So you can see it for yourself and you can experience that yourself and, and you be the judge and not let somebody else’s opinion or twisted opinion dictate what you want to think.
So, as you guys can see, this version of the Edit was obviously completely different than the first one, and now before I continue further with this tutorial, I wanted to give a quick shout out to Curtis, I’m pretty sure most of you guys already follow him online, But for those few of you who still haven’t readed any of Curtis, informative articles and make sure you head on over to this YouTube blog subscribe, and otherwise I just wanted to say thanks Curtis, for helping out with this article, thanks for letting me help out with This Tom, my blog, is all about lighting and sound for article.
So how did I actually manage to make my wife say things that she never actually said? Well, let’s take a look at the actual edit, so here on my article layer, one you can see these are. This is a all the footage, basically with my wife and then also the clips here with Curtis. So this is all they’re basically talking and then the audio one is also all of the audio for talking. So, let’s actually maybe hear kind of, because if you look at it you’ll notice, whenever I have a cat, I overlay that or hide those cats with some b-roll footage.
So let me right now just hide all of this b-roll footage and let’s just look at the actual article clip here of my wife talking, you know. Unfortunately it is what it is. You know animals are kept in cages and I think again by keeping them locked up or keeping them in these places. You know like the Myrtle Beach Safari, where it’s sad. I think it’s sad that they are doing things like that. So hopefully you guys were able to pick up right away.
You notice that I put in basically things that she was saying, and then I put in little line where she says you know Myrtle Beach, Safari as if she was actually talking about them when in reality, all I actually did when I was interviewing her is like. I said I was asking her kind of loaded questions or just questions that I kind of knew what what the answer would be about some other things and in this instance I actually asked my wife in and specifically about what does she think about other actual public Zoos where their animals have been abused, you know there’s stories like a lot of animals are kept in zoos, being abused being mistreated.
So, as you can see, I was asking her in general about zoos that abused animals. So I kind of knew right away. She would say it’s horrible right, so here you can see here kind of some of the reactions. I think it’s sad that they are doing things like that and some I don’t know you know. Unfortunately it is what it is. You know animals are kept in cages and I think so anyway, so as you can see, she was talking about Zeus, public zoos and and zoos that are, you know, I’ve been supposedly abusing animals, so obviously she was going to say it’s a horrible.
So now, going back to our edit, you notice that this clip here is basically from another part of the interview where she just said: Myrtle Beach, Safari and I have spliced it together to make it look like she’s, saying that they’re doing all those horrible things up Top or keeping them in these places, you know like the Myrtle Beach Safari, where so a very simple thing to do, and then, obviously, once you overlay the b-roll footage, which in this case is basically this clip here of induct playing with with one of the Tigers And this is how it looks, I think again, by keeping them locked up or keeping them in these places.
You know like the Myrtle Beach Safari where so, as you can see very simple way, to kind of twist their words. Now, let’s take a look at another point here of the Edit, so here at this point occurred this kind of talks about the the main guy at Myrtle, Beach, Safari and then again I cut to my wife talking ever it is it’s a reflection of the leader Himself, well, the main guy there stock can tell he’s the one that, basically, is the host he’s the main guy.
If you want to judge him, judging by how he treats the animals just doing it for the end for the money and in here again the very simple trick, you know I had a clip of her saying you know if you want to judge him, judge him By how he treats the animals, and then she actually said you know he did they do a really good job and all that stuff, and then I had another clip where she just talks about something completely different and says you know just doing it for the money.
So, let’s take a look at this. What there’s actual whole clip was before and after some organizations are doing it, so they can keep the species alive and some of them are just doing it for the end for the money. So all I did is, I just took that part which says you know: do it for the money and it’s kind of the same thing even like when she starts talking about like the introduction of dark ant or like again.
Let me kind of show you guys. The whole take here: well, the main guy they’re stuck until he’s the one that basically is the host, and this is actually where I cut it and in the Edit because then later on, she goes on to talking about. You know what doc does at at. You know the safari there and then anyway she keeps on talking about him and then here’s kind of how it sounds at the end, and you know he was very welcoming to us and in his home and his property and and to you know his life.
He was just he was just a very nice guy, very so anyways as you can see. It’s a very, very long take, and that’s because, like I said before, the whole interview to my wife was around 40 minutes and that’s normal when you’ll be doing interviews with people. That’s going to be. You know that long. Sometimes we might even be longer, and in that time, if you obviously want to make it look like I kind of want to set up somebody to make it look like they’re, saying bad things about something that they never said.
Then it’s very easy again by asking them certain questions that you know already. You expect what they’re going to say and then you know you can use it out of context. Then you can very easily make somebody look very bad. You know, or you can ask friends of somebody. Let’s say you want to portray badly and again ask them loaded questions and then edit their answers in that way. But even if, for example, you look at here, my other edit, that my wife did approve, even in that version, I had to kind of do these quick jump cuts and the reason is because, as you saw like a lot of times, people give you these long Answers or sometimes they’re taking pauses and they’re kind of saying, as they’re thinking what to say and in a documentary or TV series, whatever you want everything to kind of flow nicely.
So that’s when using b-roll footage to kind of hide your edits. It can be very helpful so here let me show you the the other version of this edit, but without any of the b-roll footage you can kind of see how I edited my wife’s talking. But how about we hear from someone who knows him personally? Well, the main guy they’re stuck until he’s the main guy he’s very charismatic, he’s very he’s, a very nice person.
We had the opportunity to meet him outside of the safari park and you know he was very welcoming to us and in his home and his property. I felt at home, I felt very comfortable with him and I felt that he was very genuine towards the love he has for the animals and you know towards towards us as well. So so, basically, as you can see, you will always have to end up kind of chopping people’s answers for your article.
The question is: are you doing this simply to you know to kind of fix the flow and speed up the timing of these answers? Or are you doing it to put words in people’s mouths that they never actually said? So hopefully, these two examples give you an idea of how easy it is to manipulate and make it look like people are saying things they never said, and it’s very easy to do, and these kind of documentaries, and and sometimes even just by showing certain images so For example, they never actually had footage of dark.
You know kind of having the animals caged in these small cages, or things like that, and that’s because the animals there are actually very well treated. They actually get to run around, and this is like some of the footage here that I shot on their property or they’re just kind of playing with these Tigers. They have these little toys that they’re chasing and if huge property and the Tigers get to run around, they have other animals that are also again free.
They’re. Definitely nothing like what you see up here with this, the other lady from the documentary or, as you can see, she keeps these animals like in these tiny cages were, and this one looks like the lion came and stand up fully. But if you read the Netflix series, one thing you will notice is that sometimes they’ll show interview. Let’s say with you know the guys from Myrtle Beach talking and then they’ll show footage from somewhere else completely of like I’m, some zoo, where it’s showing the animals being mistreated, and that’s actually what I did here in my version of my bad version of the edit.
So here, for example, is the part where they’re talking about you know it’s a big industry and it’s all about money, and then I got to a shot of dark and then I cut to some completely different footage from a completely different zoo. Where you see a lion, they’re kind of locked up in a cage – and I kind of did that a few times again, because it’s why? Because of the example like this, this is again not from Myrtle Beach Safari.
But just by doing these quick cuts, the audience doesn’t know where this was filmed, and so they automatically assumed. Oh, there must be there, even though that footage doesn’t actually come from from that that place, but you’ll notice that they’re very kind of clever with a lot of things like even when it comes to the sets and then the kind of production design, like you notice In here that this guy that they were interviewing him, they literally, I don’t know they asked him to take out his dentures or what, but they clearly asked him to take off his t-shirt.
I know the documentary they’re kind of asking her, but is too that tattoos? I can only assume – maybe they kind of you know, try to sweet-talk him into like hey. You know, show us what kind of tattoos you have things like that. You know. Don’t worry, take off your shirt, then they were like. I want you to sit down probably, and they did an interview asked him to take off his teeth, even though you can actually see, and this guy’s social media daddy.
This is actually how he looks. He hasn’t you know, nice-looking teeth. That says a girlfriend, a belief, but again, why was it done like that? Well, because we compared to the way he actually looks to the way he looks in the documentary well, you’re, basically creating an image, and the image is that these guys are basically these kind of like lowlife. You know whatever backwards kind of hex from Middle America, there’s actually a very I opening interview with the director of this Netflix series.
He lives in LA and and just in that interview, you’ll, be able to hear actually kind of this condescending view that he has about pretty much the rest of America. So that’s clearly what he wanted to portray and you know want to portray the guy how he actually looks in real life, because again that wouldn’t sell his perspective. It’s the same thing when you look at, for example, interview here that he did up here.
Why the hell was this interview? First up was staged in like with garbage around and stop. They could have picked any place, but no again, this is how you create little things and you’re, putting little ideas and your audience’s ahead, basically by by again by carefully choosing the location, adjusting the callers to kind of make. It look depressing also telling your subject. You know here take off the t-shirt.
Maybe let’s see those real teeth that you have things like that we want to see the real you there’s all kinds of techniques being used when these so-called documentaries are being made. Of course, putting the right kind of music is. Is going to be the final touch to really help you kind of sell the mood day that you’re going after and it’s the same thing I did in my edit when I interviewed my wife.
This is actually music that I got from epidemic sound and by the way you guys can follow my link in the description. If you guys want to get big discount you’re trying to invoke a certain emotion in people – and I know that when it comes to article content – the best way to do that – is you let people’s imagination kind of fill in the blank? So a lot of times? It’s best to not say too much just show a little clip have somebody say something: that’s a little suggestive, maybe then show some kind of a clip.
That kind of further reinforces that idea, and then you know, obviously through the magic of putting let’s see dramatic music. Like, let’s say, for example, if I wanted to make this shot right now and me talking seemed a lot more, I don’t know a lot more dramatic, let’s say so. I would make the lighting a lot more dramatic and then you add the music right and it makes it seem like a much serious subject matter.
If I want to make it really serious, I don’t know. Maybe I can cut to shut like this really really really dark and dramatic, and then at the same time you can make it. You know they were bright lighting and you can add kind of joyful, music and all that stuff and it can sound like we’re talking about and I’m not flying. You know, purple pink, elephants and and something really really fun out there.
So again, just those little things you know well, I’m just make a difference. But again I know what you’re thinking you’re thinking Tom I’m a filmmaker and I’m an intelligent person. I can tell those things apart and yeah. Those are like the very I would say crude and very you know we may be overused techniques of kind of building, an emotional response in an audience right. Just the way, even you, you colleague, rate the footage and things like that, but there’s also a lot of subtle things that are being done now that again may be in, and it’s part of it, I think it happens, is because you know over the years of People reading cinema reading reality TV and all this kind of sensationalism.
I think people the audience has gotten smarter, so you as a filmmaker obviously have to get smarter, because you you want to use all your tools at the disposal, whether it’s the lighting, whether it’s the color grading, the sound design, the music, but a lot of times. If you overdo it – and it’s too obvious, then again that kind of defeats the whole purpose, because then the audience goes. Okay. I know I’m supposed to be sad in this moment right.
So that’s when a lot of these subtle things of just the where you edit something are going to make a huge difference, you’re, obviously going to draw a conclusion based on anything any subjects are reading. Only from the information that you have presented to you. So as an example, if I would to like, I know, like you here in my studio – and I always kept on telling you that oh it’s horrible outside it’s raining, it’s just bad weather or whatever it’s not worth going out and all the windows are closed and You know the only bit of information is, let’s see what I give you then, and maybe let’s say I show you a photo like.
Oh I was just outside. It looks really really bad and muggy and all that stuff, then you think yeah. The weather outside is horrible and what’s the point of going out, but then when you actually or let’s say, if somebody were to open the window and you see outside it’s nice, blue sky and the Sun is out and and somebody’s telling you that the weather is Bad, then you go what the hell are you talking about right? I can see for myself and this is kind of the same thing.
So I’m saying it like, I know certain people who are portrayed in that documentary are, I don’t even know if I want to call it a documentary, because it’s again it’s just like sensationalism. It makes good TV and I’m going to admit that that series is very well produced, they’re well edited, and it makes it seem very exciting. But again it’s not doesn’t mean that that’s what the reality is and – and now maybe I kind of want to talk a little bit about my experience of being ft and you know, and in Myrtle Beach and spending time and kind of the whole thing started to Use because I was doing a filmmaking seminar in 2016 kind of traveling all over US, Canada and Europe, and in one of the locations that are that I had this guy come in.
Who was one of the people who was working at Myrtle Beach? He came to my filmmaking seminar because they were just you know he was interested as a guy very intelligent guy. His name is Robert and he’s been basically he’s just like this guy who just loves to learn, so he does have to somewhat their like social media articles, but he also like you know he teaches on a university. He trains birds, he goes.
Diving is a very, very interesting person, not just a person that I you know. I became friends with him very quickly because I found him very interesting. What do you do when you have mosquito problems in South Carolina? Well, you break out the XM 42 flamethrower. Mosquitoes are the South Carolina State Birds. Unfortunately, they come in swarms and it’s pretty difficult to get rid of them. Whatever sparked his interest.
He was like I’m going to try it I’m going to learn it, I’m going to see what it’s all about and I kind of mimics the way I am there. One of the reasons why I love filmmaking, but I also love you know doing gardening like if you read my last post on my website. You know I do a whole bunch of things. I build things. I built houses built a build, a sailboat been a long time ago, like whatever I find interesting.
I kind of pursue it and and that’s the kind of interesting thing about Robert who works. You know with the dental so anyways. He came to one of my filmmaking: seminars met him, you know, kind of became, friends, went to visit him and then, through you know, kind of seen to multiple visits kind of what he does and I’m kind of we know where the people where he works, because His life revolves mainly about the work and one of the reasons I am one of the people or one of the things people are criticizing there in that series.
Is that all the people there and Myrtle Beach they’re like working like crazy? I don’t have time off and yes, I mean they’re working a lot, but then again it’s like. If you looked at my lifestyle, you think man Tom just like you know he has a studio on his house and whenever he travels with his family he’s working he’s. Always working, I was always working, and I know I’ve even had relatives sometimes tell me that, like like family, just like never have time for family and no it’s not that it’s just.
I love my work and yeah. It does take up a lot of time, but you know what I involve my family. First of all, with my work and so to me, it doesn’t feel like work and so sometimes I’ll wake up right from the you know, time as I wake up until I go to sleep, it seems like I’m always always working, but it’s again it’s totally different When you love it and what you’re doing and and and and then you know when something needs to be done, you know something that you know you have to be there, you’ll just do it.
It doesn’t matter to you, you know, you know. I’ve been thinking about. Taking a vacation, so that’s the reason why I’ve in the pool I can understand Robert or many of the other people that that I met and why they work so many hours and and they pretty much I mean they. They do get some time off, but no they work a lot of crazy hours and they work through a lot. But you know what I was there. I actually not too long ago.
I actually went there and actually spent two weeks or almost two weeks with my family. I took my wife and my kids and we stayed there after you add and our Kantos house so he’s got a you know. Nice house very close to the word and the animals are and basically were, the whole animal sanctuaries and where people come in to see them so visa has a house there. My friend Robert Rosa’s, a house nearby, all the people who work there pretty much all living in that vicinity.
Again everybody who’s working. There is either like their friends or like their. You know, family with nieces. You know grandchildren, all that stuff of duck or some of the other people that work there and they all kind of know each other, and – and I know this because even like, while we were there, I wasn’t there specifically just to kind of hang out and see What you know what they’re doing there with the Tigers, because I was – I just simply – went to Myrtle Beach, so I went with my wife to Myrtle Beach.
We wanted Beach there to see the different attractions now, obviously, since were in Myrtle Beach and we’re staying right. There next to the tiger, preserve or like hey yeah, we want to see the tiger, so we actually got to go sometimes like in the middle of the two little tour that they were doing with people and they have different tours. They have some tours, but there’s a little bit more people, I would say maybe max twenty thirty people somewhere around there, and then they have these other little tours where they do or it’s like two or three people on max and that’s the reason why they do Charge more because again it’s those animals eat a lot of food, even like visible dine and taco the elephant.
But, like doc, has his elfin that he’s saved. There was basically the whole herd from what I understand the poachers in Africa, or I think they did shut them and this baby elephant he adapted it was years ago in 70s, and I saw the photos all that stuff and he anyways. He brought this elephant to America and her name is bubbles. Oh my god, it’s like the like she’s, like the best animal. Ever I got ta sleep very intelligent, and you can just see that by when she wants to listen to to doc.
You can see she. She wants to simple when she doesn’t want to listen. She’s like a like a five six year old kid like I kinda have to be in charge of them, so doc was always there, but like there’s ample when we are staying at his house. First of all, when when I first went there and I was introduced to doc right away, he was just like yeah. Welcome guys go here’s my house, we have a free room here.
We only can stay in nothing. There was no, he never went and told me or my wife or my kids, like oh, don’t go here, don’t do this or whatever they know. We were there so from the moment walk-up, which we usually wake up late, so they were already there because they wake up early early and they go working with animals. But if we woke up earlier, we had breakfast with them or we had lunch or dinner with them.
We I mean it was just like I said like they were just like, like whatever like they do, is know when you’re you know, and when somebody I’m not even that open. When I don’t know somebody I’m not going to just be like oh yeah, you can stay at my house and then I go off to work and I just leave the house. Doc is like that, like he just the house was unlocked. I could come in and leave whenever I wanted to, we could use whatever we wanted to.
I mean he’s very generous with the food. Even though me, my wife is important that exclusively vegetarian. They are so maybe I didn’t always eat their food, but he also did like that’s another thing like their vegetarian and reason for me and my wife aren’t that, but they didn’t care. We came in and we’re eating other stuff, like whatever like they’re, very, very chill people and what I, what I one thing I did take away from, especially the last time that was there like for the longer period with my family is that they’re they’re all like A family where they’re there’s are people who are you, know, kind of hired or joined them as volunteers at first or whether they’re actually family, because most of the people there are kind of family related in one way or another they’re all like family, and they treat Other people, because we weren’t the only ones ice off towards and other people, you know other people that also that stayed there and – and I I see how they are they’re, just very welcoming very open, didn’t have any secrets again.
Like somebody, I would think somebody who has things to hide or maybe doesn’t want to show they would not just be like hey yeah stay at my house and that’s it they will be like well yeah. Maybe you can stay here, but you know don’t go here. Don’t know – and it was the same thing with even the reserve like they were obviously places where they’re like don’t go there because that tiger will eat. You know because he doesn’t know you exist, but otherwise they were like oh yeah.
If you want, you can take, they have these little golf carts and they’re like I take the little court and you can drive there and I even had like my mail. I remember I had to ship something I had a chip there to their place. I had to go pick it up from their office and you know get to drive around. I was amazed when I see friends of mine again. We just see this little serious and Netflix and then they’re like, oh, my god, Tom.
You know these guys are horrible right because again you how they’re being portrayed over there doesn’t mean that that’s how somebody is in real life. So you always keep that in mind whether it’s fake news, fake, whatever right at the end of the day. You know and that’s like I said, I’m saying fake news, because a lot of the stuff applies, I think, also to politics. Well, you know, or to to anybody, really that you sing in a public eye unless you know somebody or that situation personally, just always assume that you don’t know anything because whatever is being shown to you most of the time, it’s being hyped up.
Why? Because you know whether it’s news stations or in this case Netflix, is they’re trying to create something entertainment, something that that will draw people in. I don’t know about some of the other people, but I can tell you honestly whether it’s dark until from Myrtle Beach or or some of the other people there that work there. That are, you, know, friends of mine. I’ve seen nothing but good things.
I’ve been there. Multiple times like I said, I’ve stayed there with my family and I can just tell you guys that it’s not like what you see there in the documentary they they really take care of the animals, but also they take care of each other and and they all Live in a close vicinity there, they all have homes, they all make make money and all that stuff. It isn’t that none of this, like this cult thing and I know, they’re, trying to suggest in there.
That is like a cult or something that doc has nothing like that. It’s just they’re very cool people like we would all go like, for example, when when they did have on the days where they didn’t do the tours with the guests, then yeah they’re busy, obviously always sitting on a day with the animals, but then they would come In and we would they would always like you know, we would get everybody would order, something we would all just share it.
We were to be hanging out in the backyard we’d go with. You know the animals that could be there. We would let them out in the water playing like it was just a cool experience like people were just. It was fun like it like I’m doing, like a very big extended of kind of a fun family. People are her shell, very laid-back and they’re doing their living a life. You know I kind of I would say with the meaning, because they’re following really what they want to do, instead of what I think a lot of sometimes what happens to people as they kind of feel.
Like you know, I have to go to school. I have to do this. I have to get this respectable job. I have to buy this house at and then they get stuck in this kind of a nine-to-five working for these other companies and they’re not happy themselves, whereas you know, and even though they might be working less hours than let’s say guys. You know but they’re in Myrtle, Beach or fear, and what I do with my own business.
But you know what I may I might be working more hours, but I’m more happier I can see because, first to me a lot of times it doesn’t seem like work. I’m just literally living doing what I want to do and I can see this exact same thing happening there with with everybody working at an Myrtle Beach, so yeah. So just keep that in mind guys that unless you’ve been somewhere, it personally or you’ve seen a situation whenever you see it on TV, just accept that it’s either a sensitive sensor, nice version of it make it something that that will be would sound more exciting or A lot of times just people want to show you their opinion of a situation over person, and so it’s not reality.
So just assume that you don’t know it, it doesn’t matter how intelligent you think you are because you can only draw your conclusions. Your opinions, based on things that you see and again if the older windows are closed, and I don’t tell you what the weather is like outside. You only make conclusions based on what I tell you. What you hear are things like that, so you have to open up all those windows.
Look around. You see different point of views and you’ll see very quickly that the world out there is not black and white. It’s not like a person is bad or good. Everybody out there I would say: there’s no bad or good people. It’s just everybody kind of fluctuates constantly between the two. We all kind of, I think, want to pull more towards the good, but sometimes we end up going into bed and it’s just more a question of throughout your life.
Where did you spend on which end of the spectrum, I would say where you spend more of the time? Anyways, that’s my opinion again, that’s my point of view. Hopefully you guys took something positive out of this. If you did, let me know in the comment section below and otherwise I’ll see you guys on the next article bye
Videos are truly an awesome way to get the point across. Any type of content from your business is important!
My name is John golden from sails pop online says magazine, I’m pipeliner CRM and today I’m joined by Patrick wen Hua’s, a who is the author of the upcoming book, the persuasion code and your marketing can help you persuade anyone anywhere anytime. So welcome Patrick hey good afternoon John, so Patrick, you have been talking about neural marketing and you have you know you ordered another book before and you’ve been in this in this area.
You know for a long long time, so tell me a little bit about what is what is different about your book. That’s coming out in September, the the persuasion code. So what happened is about 17 years ago there was a new branch of marketing that was born called neural marketing, and here is the promise of newer marketing. The promise is that traditional marketing does not really work. Why? Because in traditional marketing, here is what we do.
We ask people: what do you want and then based on their answers? We won’t build a product and later we will create a strategy to sell that part, but the reality is that people don’t really know what they want. As a result, traditional marketing is very often detailing, and the promise of newer marketing was very different. The promise of newer marketing is that we would ask people what do you want, but we will not trust their self-reported answers.
Instead, we could measure directly on their bodies, values, physiological changes that indicate what people truly want so 17 years ago, the world was on fire when people started to use this, because the promise was just too good to be true, and so, if you fast forward 17 Years later, neural marketing has exploded in order today there are over a hundred companies in the world that offered various kinds of services around the home marketing, but it has not really delivered on its initial promise and it has not initially delivered why? Because there is not a single unifying model that explains what you find when you do these physiological measurements.
No word anybody can do various kinds of physiological measurements and by the way, those techniques go from very simple, very inexpensive ones. Where you can measure, for example, the eg on the head of people or you can in measure their emotion based on how to contract the 43 muscles on their faces, or you can measure how their skin changes react resistance. So all these measurements are very easy to do, but what’s really hard is how do you interpret them in a complete? You know sales and marketing approach.
In other words, how should an advertiser change its sales and marketing strategies based on those measurements? So, unfortunately, the initial promise of no marketing has not really delivered. So when we wrote our first book, we suggested that there might be a model that helps you guide everything you do not read them to make it really effective, but we had not tied all that model to all these measurements.
So, what’s continued in our new book is that we are now explaining how it really works, in other words, it’s a little bit like if you are talking about physics. As you know, in physics we are trying to unify the two basic physics model: the traditional physics, bye, doc, bye I’ll help me with his name. It was a British guys, future new Neutron, you use it and the quantum physics. So there is not a single unifying model yet, but we’re getting closer and closer well, there is no single unifying model of sales of marketing and our model, we believe, is their very first one.
That just does that. You know it’s a complete model that explains how people use their brain to make buying decisions and based on that, it helps any entrepreneur. Anybody who has to convince other people about what they need to do if they want to be more successful in sales and marketing. Right so so explain to the people, their listeners, who may not have come across this before or not really pay too much attention.
But why is it that you can’t trust what people initially say they want, or why is it that that neuroscience plays such a big role in really understanding what you know how people make decisions as opposed to what they say sure well think about it. If I ask you, imagine you walk in the restaurant and instead of offering you a menu, I ask you: what do you want to eat tonight? You see how embarrassing how difficult it is to figure out what you really want mm-hmm, whereas if you see that many of you, oh yeah, the chicken looks really good on the menu today.
So when people have to self-report what they really want or what they really like, they are going through the funnel of expressing with words what they want, and that does not allow them to really access the unconscious. As you know, in the mind, if you think about it, there is really a conscious part, which is only five to ten percent of who we are. And then there is this big iceberg underneath it, which is 90 percent of we are, and we really have access to that unconscious and asking people to access that unconscious.
By using words, you know, self-reported words is mission impossible. So the reality is people who really know what they want. However, our body does so, for example, when you get scared, you know you get the first signs of fear even before you’re aware that you’re scared, and today there are a number of tools that we can use to make those measurements. So, in essence, those measurements are allowing us to poke into the unconscious of people, and the techniques are very reliable in the past they used to be very complicated.
In other words, you needed a supercomputer, you needed 10 PhDs to run it and a big budget. Today, all these techniques admitted you know very affordable. In fact, some of these techniques are even accessible for free on the web. So how would you if you take this over the sales for a moment right, so you know sales people have to ask a lot of questions and do discovery and really try and uncover what somebody what a prospect is looking for.
So how does it play into that because, like you said I mean, maybe this is a difficult process for the actual customer. Yes, so in the case of myself, it way now is, if you take that idea and put it in the context of a one-on-one meeting between the buyer and a seller, I mean that what the very first task are the seller is really to understand what are Some of the negative thoughts that are going into the mind of the buyer, I mean in our book.
We call that the pain mm-hmm, but the unconscious pain we believe, are more important than the conscious pains and I’m going to give you an example right now. Imagine the seller is selling home, delivered pizza and the buyer is the average consumer of pizza mm-hmm, most people when you ask them. So what do you work when it comes to a pizza? You know people can talk about, they will tell you. I want extra pepperoni and I want cheese etc, but in reality there is a small company in the u.
S. That figured this out. But four years ago they figured out that not one pain of people buy home. Deliver pizza. I know almost like the unconscious pain. Is the anxiety of not knowing when the pizza will arrive right and again, it would be almost. It would be impossible for most people toward that, but we can measure it on a bun and figuring this out that no pizza shop came up with a slogan and never struggle.
It was 30 minutes or less for extreme mm-hm, and that little place is now known. As Domino’s Pizza – and they became number one now W speaking number one, not because they make the best pizza but because they were able to diagnose that pain and then they build a complete organization whose unique purpose is to eliminate that. So this is the case of Domino’s, going back to our case of a single one on one person selling the job of the sales guy is to read between the line of the answers that the person will that the person will given, but so, if I am That person trying to sell you, Domino’s Pizza, I’m going to ask you questions about, so you know you’re going to be home alone tonight.
What are some of the thoughts that go through your brain etc? And I’m going to try to force you to admit that you have this unconscious pain, but, as you can imagine, it’s a very difficult job. In other words, it’s a job which is more the job of a psychologist than it is the job of a salesperson, and that’s why salespeople typically, are not very good at doing this, because we train ourselves people to be good talkers.
Unfortunately, most of them are not good listeners and to throw a good diagnostic of that pain to find between the line where the consumer really wants. It takes somebody who has the capacity to listen very deeply, and it takes the capacity of people can ask the right questions and and a prospect or a customer. It’s one of the value drivers will reward you for uncovering something. You know a problem or a pain that they either didn’t know they had or did not weren’t aware that it was that acute right.
So that’s really where you logged in yeah, when you do that diagnostic of the pain properly there are two major benefit. The first benefit is it’s a soft way of selling. You know where you don’t have to say: well, we have the best product, I’m the best sales guy, no you’re, demonstrating your expertise, not by what you say, but by what you ask for by the quality of the questioning that you drive. So that’s the first thing.
The second thing is asking question: is the best way to develop rapport right, if you think about it, the people that are interesting, a lot of people that talk about himself. There are the people that talk to you about you. So, what’s the best way for me to talk to you about you, if you ask you question and so and so getting back, pivoting back a little to the neuro marketing piece. So when you look at at most companies marketing today say software products or whatever.
What do you see is the big problem with the kind of traditional marketing and how could people flip that using newer marketing? Well, the problem is that marketing well done typically is very expensive. I mean you need to do big surveys. You need to question a lot of people, so I think a lot of people think of marketing as an expensive task, but when I think about it, for us, Noora marketing is really what can help people differentiate between the what people think they want and what people Really want inside the unconscious and for a large company.
This is invaluable. You know I’ll give you just one example: we’re working for Avon, for example, and you know trying some of our techniques they’ve been able to see sales increase by up to 40 % for some of the shampoo products, because a lot of the ads that they were Doing were too focused on the product itself, etc, but it was not really addressing some of the core pains or negative emotion that resides in the brain of our consumers right.
So that is really the promise of no marketing it’s to help. People do focus everything. They talked about which typically centered on the mimimi, I mean most people, if you think about it most people when they talk about the products and services they talk about who they are and what they do, mm-hmm. In fact, if you look at all websites, most websites include a tab which is called who we are and another tab, which is called what we do, but the critical information that is missing there is: why should the customer buy right, and what we have seen is That noir marketing is the fastest surest way to get companies to quickly focus and now down on why the customer should buy.
So what are some other examples that you’ve seen of where somebody has done this? Well, where they’ve changed their marketing approach and and really hit the you know, hit the target. You know there are no many examples, but if you’re talking about Apple, for example, right the computer and phone company Steve Jobs by the way used to say we don’t do marketing at Apple, because the consumer doesn’t know – and I know better than them what they want.
So we’re going to build it if you’re, not in fact not completely wrong, we’re going to sell a lot of it, but Apple has been the champion of this now think about it. I’d like to take you back about 30 years ago. Why would people want to buy an Apple computer thirty years ago? There was only one reason think about 30 years ago. Yes, the reason is slightly different today. That’s why I’m bringing you back a few years back? Why would people buy a Macintosh when the main computer? Well, the main competitor at the time was the regular PC at the time they it was very specialized.
I mean there were people, maybe actually yes, designers and people like that who bought Max’s right and a few students. You know what was the main reason. Why? Because it was easier to use, you know what, if you were buying your PC, he didn’t have a degree in computer science. It would be very hard for you to use it right, so Macintosh make it easier for people so Apple use. That claim, in other words, the reason why you would want to buy your Apple computer years and years ago, was easier to use and slowly over time as computers became easier to use Apple to endorse another crime, and why would people buy an iPhone today? There’s still only one reason, but it’s slightly different.
It’s no one here to use because every four years is to use – and you know what it is: it’s cool to use cool yeah. So this again so Apple decided once and for all in the 35 year history. They went from a t1 claim, is it to use and they slowly switch to cool to use over a period of time, but they did that because they know that had been one crime. You know being able to write the book. Why buy enough? On the only one chapter mm-hm and hammering that chapter you know cause when Apple’s 20 years ago was selling a mirror.
It was always you know easy to use by creating that repetition by making it clear as to what is that one chapter in the book title? Why buy an Apple Apple has been extremely extremely successful, so Apple was using some of the concept that we are now explaining from a purely scientific standpoint for for many many years right so, but so basically BAM based on that, then, are you saying that most companies Should really look at uncovering that that one or two reasons, real reasons why a customers should buy from them absolute and it an it, and as you say, it’s not the obvious one in terms of it may not be they the product itself.
It may be something you know totally tangental even to it right absolutely I mean, if you think about it, easy to use and a Macintosh computer. It has nothing to do fast. Delivery has nothing to do with the pizza itself. In other words, unfortunately, if you’re selling your commodity, you will not be able to find what makes you unique in the product itself, because, by definition it’s a commodity, so you’ve got to find that one reason why people want to buy it and it’s going to be Outside of the product, functions and features itself, and all the companies that are successful have destroyed it for a long long time.
That’s excellent advice so before we finish up today, give me a little bit more information about when your book is available about your company about yourself and how people can learn more about you right. So our first book is the valuable you know it was written about. Fifteen years ago, so it’s still available. Our new book titled, the persuasion code, will be available in mid September, is published by ye, and the information is already available on amazon.
Com and what we are is we are the only advertising agency in the world that uses no marketing techniques to diagnose the pain of The customer and ours fine, the true motivation that drives people to buy. Then we are a strategic, consulting firm. We guide the choice of companies on what is that one chapter in your book and we train people on all these concepts and the last thing we do is we have a small, creative arm.
Then, once we have agreed on all this concept, they actually rhyme. So the concepts are, what are the pains in the brain of your customers, and how do you diagnose that then? The second concept is: how do you differentiate your claims numbers? How do you make your solution appear completely unique in the eyes of your customers, even if you’re selling commodity, we call that the claims? The third concept is, how do you demonstrate the game? No, it’s not enough to say I have the best product.
How do you actually prove it and how the volume so pain claim and gain, and the last step is: how do you deliver to the primal brain? In other words, how do you deliver your message to the unconscious of the consumer? Okay, so we packages we package, our services, so that small companies and not company alike, can see benefit in applying a model that is again completely anchored in the science of the human right.
Yeah, it’s fascinating stuff and I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Patrick speak before so I would highly recommend that you, you check out the sales brain and check out Patrick and check out his book and I think you’ll find it extremely fascinating. So listen thanks again, Patrick for joining us. Today. We look forward to to your book and to seen the model in you know its glory coming out in September and then learning more about this fascinating subject.

At the moment now, if-if-if Zook, mark zuckerberg goes and changes any of the rules around events or makes Facebook ads more expensive. Then this is kind of going to screw up this. This strategy, which I use at the moment but hey-ho whilst it’s rolling – and I reckon it will be fine for the next year or two at least I’m just going to roll with it so right.
What I’m going to cover during this Facebook ad section is around the budget, the you’re planning to market your event so versus your event, lifetime value. If you’re jumping in at this point, I suggest you’d go back and and read the slide about event lifetime value, because that’s quite important, I’m going to go through the ad format. Again, I’m not a Facebook ad expert and I’m just telling you what I do and it seems to work and get people booked on for less than a pound per person.
Sap per person booked at the moment, and so I’m just telling you what I know there’ll be other probably Facebook, ad experts out there maybe reading this, who maybe I’ll get some tips out of it. Maybe they’ll help support some stuff that I’m missing, but I’m Jessica. I’m not an expert, I’m just telling you what I know so I’m going to go through what I do from an ad format perspective. Title descriptions calls to action and stuff like that, and it torch a little bit around split testing and the three different types of ads which I’ve tested and which one I’ve really kind of honed in and settled on.
And then. Finally, I’m going to talk to you about kind of the actual Facebook ad structure from an audience perspective, so looking at look-alike audiences, custom, audiences and event, audiences, and things like that. I hope that’s cool, so kind of jumping about a little bit. But these are the three ads which I split tested. Basically, so let’s have a quick look, so we’ll come back to budget so kind of just to give you an idea, so I tend to have a basic image.
Ad is actually kind of the least popular one. I then have a article ads, that’s kind of the second most popular one, and then this what I call a disruptive ad – and actually this has been the most popular one for me. So this is actually one of the diagrams one of my tools that I teach people about customer lifetime value, but for some reason it makes people stop and go back and have a look at the event and then, during those few seconds they then go.
Oh, this is called it’s a free seminar in Cheltenham so yeah away, we go so you can see from the structure of the ad in terms of like so, first and foremost, and again, I um I got a give sort of hat tip. There’s a guy called Jamie Forrest jjp I was getting the name on japw marketing. Jamie Forrest is a Facebook Ads expert and he kind of helps me out with the ad structure. It started to introduce me to kind of audiences, and things like that.
So I owe him an awful lot but um, but so he’s the one who can taught me this sort of structure. So basically, what we want to do is have like something really clear at the top of it, so who was speaking to business owners of Gloucestershire. So it’s location-based, it’s talking about our target market and then you’re invited so call to action. You’re invited to a free seminar at the juries in Cheltenham on Friday, the 26th.
So it’s got all of the basic details in there and then, if they click more, it’s going to get them, give them a few more details about what this seminar is going to do for them. Basically so there’s like three bullets and a couple of other details in there and then we’ve got the image like I said, and it says interested there. But actually, if you click into that ad, you then get the option to actually book a ticket directly from the Eventbrite, which is pretty cool, so I’ve split tested like numerous different ads.
I mean I’ve spent thousands of pounds on Facebook ads and finally settled on this kind of being the most popular, but do always split test across your different audience. It may be that this thumbnail wasn’t right for this article or the article was too long, because this particularly articles about sort of two two and a half minutes, so people, maybe didn’t read all of it. This is a bit kind of too salesy, and people will probably just scroll past that potentially so I found this disruptive type of ads like make it colorful make it bright, make it like scribbles and a bit of a mess.
It seems to attract people’s attention. It works for me, like I said so, then we’re kind of going to go into the budget side of things so now I actually set for the last event. I actually only ended up spending about 100 pounds to book 97 people onto the event, but actually I would have been willing, because I knew that if I, if I got if I filled the room up with 50 people, I’d have at least one maybe two ongoing Coaching clients, I’d, sell some people onto my group coaching program, so that would create and cus customer lifetime value in its own right and actually the the venue only cost me 250 quid.
So I was willing to spend 300 pounds on Facebook ads. You know one of the key things is. What we want to do is run the ads right up to the day before the event, because people will still book at the last minute. I did this tsunami for my networking event and in January we had 17 people booked on the day before that 17 people out of 60 in total, who attended the event so scheduled it to to start straightaway and and literally like the day before your event and Like the time looks a bit roundabout, hey hope, so my event was on the 26th of Jan and then running out to all the time.
Basically, you could schedule it if you wanted to to run between like the most popular times. You know like I. I know that my audiences tend to be online at lunchtime on Facebook and sort of lay Eve later on an evening once the kids are kind of gone to bed so sort of 7:00 – I don’t know 10 p.M. So you could potentially run it on schedule. I’ve never split tested that and hey, maybe that’s something I should do, but I term lazy.
So I just run the ads all the time. Basically, so next up we’re kind of getting into the the real guts of like the the Facebook Ads manager and like the control panel and there’s a few things that you’ll see in here, which will be familiar. So the the ad which we’re doing is an event ad and what ideally, what we want to do so this stuff on the right is really really important. We want this needle to be bolt upright so that it says that we’re not too specific we’re not too broad.
Our audience is clearly defined. Now the green band actually goes like you know, for a big big part of it. Also, what we don’t want is, if potential reach to be absolutely massive, we don’t want it to be into like the hundreds of thousands I mean it depends on the event. I guess if you’re like Tony Robbins or somebody, you probably want it to be going out to hundreds of thousands people and you got the cash, but actually the reality is we want it to be very specific.
So I’m talking about kind of local event based marketing. Here not, you could use this tactic if you wanted to do bigger events and probably actually, if I wanted to grow my fearless events, I probably take them to London or reading or Birmingham or a bigger city. You know so so that’s one way of doing it. Like I’m not going to draw people in to an event like, let’s be fair, I do but not from outside of Gloucestershire, probably and then the other thing is this estimated daily results.
So what I try and do is I’ll adjust my budget basically to make sure that the reach is some we’re approaching a thousand people a day, because then, when you start reaching a thousand people a day, you get this. The second bar appear, which is for the estimated number of event responses, and so, if I’m getting six to twenty one event response to the day and reaching a thousand people a day, that’s pretty cool and actually so what? What it’s in terms like budget? That’s why it’s better off to start with a really high budget.
Now what Facebook is going to do is eke out that budget over the course of the lifetime. So if you’re doing four week campaign, it leaked out and 300 pounds over the course of the event. So um, but what we want to do is is maximize the amount of event responses as quickly as you possibly can. So we may only be willing to spend three hundred quid, but if you’re brave with your budget and stick in three hundred quid knowing that you’ll probably get everybody booked on in that first week and it’ll only cost you a hundred quid, I mean Facebook’s like woohoo.
This person’s, like going to spend 300 quid so they’re like yeah, let’s just throw this out all over the place and one will get loads of engage people and we’ll give it to the right people, but actually what you do is you spend a hundred quid get Your 7 to your 97 bookings and switch it off and you’ve only spent a hundred quid so actually being brave with this this budget and the scheduling is like absolutely vital and ideally like.
I said we want to get to this point whereby we’ve got this. This estimated daily reach up over a thousand and and this event responses thing pops up, because that’s just triggered something in Facebook’s algorithm, say this guy’s promoting events and he’s got budget for it. So I’m I’m not going to go too much into creating custom audiences, there’ll, be loads of sort of advice and tips and tricks and stuff like that out there.
How I do it is, I create a basic custom audience if everybody who’s attended. My events in the past and pumped that into Facebook the moment it’s about six or seven hundred people, and then I create a look-alike audience based on that of the clip and basically look at how it look like audiences work. Is they give you the closest 1 percent of people in so I’ve chosen in terms of my look-alike audience, people based in the UK so there’s 41 registered 41 million registered Facebook users in the UK so that any look-alike audience you you create the first 1 %.
Will always be if it’s UK targeted 410,000 odd people, and that seems like a lot and you’d be like wow. That’s too many, that’s not that’s not very targeting, but actually what it’s done is out the 41 million people it’s got to pick from in the pool. It’s chosen a thousand people who the one percent of people who look the most like that initial list of people who’ve attended events does that if that makes any kind of sense, so it should be the four hundred and fourteen thousand people who are most closely associated To my target market next up – and this is one of the biggest mistakes actually so so, first of all, when I am my first event, I did where I was booking people like seven to ten pounds per seat.
I didn’t have a look-alike audience like this. I didn’t have a location. I wasn’t really aware of this sort of stuff going on over here. So the moment I created a detailed look-alike audience based on people, who’d attended my event, the event bookings and for my Bristol event dropped down to about between. I know it’s about four pounds ish, so it halved pretty much. The next thing is this location thing here now most people will go my events in Cheltenham so I’ll do a 40 kilometer radius and round Cheltenham.
Now again, that’s quite vague, so there’s something called poly. Agonal searches um – this is probably the stuff for the like Facebook ad gurus. Don’t want you to know because they’re like this is our secret sauce like why this guy’s telling you it like. This is a secret sauce, I’m giving you now and it works for me and hey by the way like when you’re first starting out with Facebook ads like the money you spend, isn’t wasted.
It’s information-gathering, like you, will waste a lot of money on Facebook ads before you get it right. I certainly have so I’m trying to save you a few quid here so GL. One two is what we call a poly. I can all post code search. So it’s not it. Basically, it’s a very specific, like grid on a map of where that location sits and what happens is we’re going to target people who specifically live in that location, because we know that they’re more likely to come to our event because they live closer to it.
So if you want to know more about this, like you’re going to have to join, I’m not going to give you this list, you can go and find your own postcode lists if you want to, but I’ve got some great text files available if you’re a fearless Business member and to make that job a lot easier for you. So I can give you these poly agonal searches but you’re, going to have to give me some juice, I’m afraid, because it took me a long time to get to work out where to grab that information from and which I know is a bit tight of me.
I suppose I could help you out. Maybe you could just donate some beer tokens or something but but um like this when I started targeting specific poly agonal postcodes like this and my my cost per person, SAP again dropped by more than half, so it moved from about three to four pounds down to About one to two pounds, which was a massive difference, so just with these two things alone, I’ve moved from sort of seven eight nine pounds per person booking down to like a pound per person, booking it’s absolutely phenomenal when it works, and it doesn’t always work.
It depends like there’s a lot of other variables like when you, when you launch your promotion like what are the promotions going on, and things like that, if you, if you run two ads similar ads at the same time, effectively they’re competing against each other. For this reach this traffic, so it could potentially cost you more. So there’s a lot of variables which which are kind of going on there.
I again, I kind of tend to use sort of Faerie vague sort of demographics, like I want everybody to come along from 24 to 65. Now the last event, which I did again probably the first 10 people had booked. It were women and then Facebook decided. Well then, everybody who wants to go to this event female so so I had I had there was a it started to slide much more towards women, so I had to create another ad switch off my my women out, because I wanted I wanted them.
I have them, I’m not focused specifically on women, i, but I wanted a mix of people and genders in the room and mixed demographics in the room, because again it all adds to the event. I think it’d be a bit weird if people turn it, I don’t know whether it’d be weird. Maybe I thought it was weird if everybody turned out to my event was female. I don’t know language make sure you put English UK in there, if you’re in England or wherever you’re based and target language – and I filled in this details in the in the screenshot but again 21,000 people in gloucestershire – that’s still quite vague, so I might want to Narrow that down, potentially and start to put in you know business owners, entrepreneurs whatever it might be so and you can also exclude people so you might choose to exclude, I don’t know, taxi drivers for whatever reason, maybe you got something against taxi driver.
So if there are people you don’t want to, but there’s a you don’t see this box to start off with you have to there’s a little link which you have to click to exclude people. So if you put business owners, you even have to click another box and exclude taxi drivers. So it’s just a way of narrowing down your audience and making sure you have the right people booking to turn up to your event, cool and then so edit placement.
So I’ve kind of played around with this I kind of settled on I prefer to target mobile only. I get better results through that occasionally I’ll test it, if that, if that mobile only is not working, I might do automatic placements and that Facebook do its thing. It’s entirely up to you. You’ve also got the art that there’s various different things I mean I would look at what just look at Facebook’s help pages around kind of the different types of platforms and, what’s going to work best for your event and kind of again, it will depend on your Audience but for me mobile only or automatic plain placement, absolutely fine, whether you push it across to Instagram or not.
It’s entirely up to you. If you got Instagram following optimized for a delivery, we want event responses. Bin amount automatic, so let Facebook do its work and if you do manual, you will end up paying too much and then charge. We want charges to be charged per impression. Basically, so every time this goes out to a thousand people we want to be. We want to be charged for it because, if I add structure is right, if I targeting is right, if our event is appealing and can produce value, we should get quite a good conversion rate.
Now I haven’t actually looked in detail as to what my conversion rates are actually based upon. My impression and impressions are probably something I should look at, but again you can find that information in the in the what you call it. The Facebook Ads manager I’m waning. So I’m going to try and wrap this up soon, so here we go so a few stats, so this is again show differences, but so event responses.
So again, by far this was my most. This was getting the best results for the least it cost me a little bit more, but it was getting me more people booking so and you know yes, these were cheaper and I suppose I could have switched that off and ramped up the spend on these. I did try that and ultimately this ended up being the center that costing me more because too many people were just scrolling past the image ad in the article.
So I settled upon the it says: head shot there, but it’s not it’s the disruptive image. Basically – and you can see here, you know great relevancy – score lots of people taking action, we’re talking like 19 event bookings for 10 quid. At this point I think, like I said in the end I booked 97 people for just over 100 pounds like which is a pound a seat. I mean that’s, that’s amazing. You know you’re going to get better results early on and then the ad will keep on getting repeated to the same people after that.
So when, when this starts to kind of creep up, you probably want to start to think about duplicating your ad and tweaking a couple of things in it. Maybe change the ad copy or drop in another image, or something like that just so people get something different again, I’m lazy! I didn’t do it for this campaign, but if I was doing a bigger campaign, perhaps I would so so that’s that, basically so if you’ve got any questions like jump on to the either the business start at group on Facebook hit me up, so you can just Search like on Twitter for Robin Waite on Facebook, Instagram, I’m all over that you can buy one of my books take your shot there based on or online business, starts at there based on Amazon, and if you want to know more about Facebook ad side of things, Then, like get yourself booked in for a consultation with me, I, the consultation, won’t focus on Facebook Ads by the way, I tend to look at much more strategic perspective of your business, and we will be talking about whether coach business coaching is something for something for You but hey get in touch.

I’m sure you guys have seen a couple. You know in the articles that I’ve done I’ve used these a lot. I actually did an unboxing of the Damascus steel chef’s knife that I bought. I got hooked on these knives a couple months back. I was looking for some decent knives.
I’ve never really had high quality knives. I’ve always just had you know, whatever garbage that I could get on sale at Kohl’s or whatever just constantly trying to keep them sharp. I never really, you know, had any decent, really good knives, so I decided I want to start treating myself and I started doing these articles and started looking for something it wasn’t too expensive, but it was pretty decent quality and that would work really well.
For me, I’ve got some pretty big mullet head and paws here, so I needed something that would fit my hand good. So the first thing I actually started out with with these was this boning knife. I was looking for a decent boning knife and German steel and saw these handles. Somebody has recommended it to me and I went ahead and bought this one and I got it and I immediately fell in love with the handles.
I love this. The design of the pocke wood and the ergonomic grip fits my big hand really well, and I found that this, the German steel holds an edge, really well doesn’t get water spots and rust on it and, like I said I just overall liked the whole feel of This knife, so I went ahead and I started ordering some more. I ordered the regular German steel chef’s knife and that actually was a really good knife as well.
I like this, it’s very light, holds the edge real well same. German steel got me and excited about the carving knife and never had a really decent carving knife, so I went ahead and ordered this one as well. This one is like I said: I love this knife as well. It’s just got the same. High quality German steel holds an edge. Well, I’ve used this a couple times to cut pastrami roast stuff like that, and it works very well.
I can’t wait to use this on cooking. You know how about carve it up the turkey on Thanksgiving, so so that’s what I kind of started out with it started one two three you know for now: I’d ended up with this, the rest of the set, which is in a block the block set. All of these knives are actually none of these knives. These are all the ones you can buy single. You know in the single side, and actually this knife set has a few knives that you can’t get on its own, so I love the shape of this block.
The block is actually a linear design. Instead of you know, width wise this is goes long lives and it’s also not in a block shape. So I like this, it’s a different design kind of like the wood. It’s real heavy wood. It’s not light, it’s not something! That’s you know: it’s not preformed, or you know sawdust or anything like that. It’s real wood, you can tell it’s solid and what it comes with. It comes to these real heavy duty, poultry, shears that lock I’ve used these a couple times on chickens.
So far, it works real, well, they’re, very sharp, very, very sturdy. It comes with the paring knife same very high quality, Germans, German steel and holds an edge real. Well all these knives are full tang, which means the metal goes from one end to the other. All the way through, it’s not just pieces of metal glued together, so it’s one piece of metal all the way through and then the pocke wood is wrapped around and every one of the knives are like that comes with the five-inch utility knife, which is a good Everyday knife that comes with two cleavers, this one is kind of like a veggie cleaver.
They call it it’s kind of a different, more of a Japanese type shape. Then it comes with a traditional meat, cleaver kind of a you know a little bit heavier than the other one, a little bit more traditional design, but they’re all that same high-quality German steel and the santoku knife, which is more of a flatter. It’s not like the chef’s knife, it’s not angled! So it’s it’s kind of a flatter. Japanese style knife same German steel, and then it comes with the the honing steel as well, and this is very solid.
They said all these handles. The pocke wood is all very ergonomic and it fit real well, especially if you’ve got bigger hands like me and they’ll fit real well in this block. So that’s what I got these. These have been really awesome so far. They all hold an edge real well have had no problems whatsoever, they cut really well no rust on them and the water spots sticking to it and didn’t get them all rusty.
So I suggest you guys take a look at these. These come on sale. All the time on Lightning Deals on Amazon. I try to post them up on my Facebook group and page when they do just because I think they’re a really high quality knife for a good price. I got this on lightning deal for 50 bucks. They normally sell for around 80, which is fantastic, still high quality, Damascus, steel knife, but all these knives will come up on sale.
You know all the time, but even the everyday price that they’re selling at it’s very good. So I’m not going to cut anything up. I just kind of wanted to show these to you. I’ve cut with these knives all the time you can read my articles and see me cutting with them. I mean they all have very sharp my edges, so these all have a 15 degree edge which is kind of standard on the Japanese knives. So and that’s about it, I love these knives.
They looked really well and he said I like them just because they look cool and they laugh. You know, they’ve got a high quality, German steel and I know they’ll last me a long time and they didn’t cost me an arm or leg. I’ve seen people paying two hundred three hundred dollars for just one knife and they don’t look as good half as good as EES, so I suggest them highly recommend them. Thanks for reading, make sure you go ahead and, like this article subscribe, follow us on Facebook.
We have a group and a page and also follow us on Instagram and Twitter and thanks again guys and I’ll be back in another article City.
Knives and daggers are awesome! Plain and simple, right? Let me say, I enjoy my dagger collection with a little music playing in the background.

This is an Erin Condren haul. However, these things were actually sent to me by the team at Erin Condren. One of these things is something I wouldn’t normally buy for myself and I’ll explain why and soon as I open it and then some of the other things I was really excited to see, and I’m excited to see everything to be completely honest.
These are things that I’ve never seen before and some of their new releases. This is a teacher themed haul, so these are just kind of my basic first impressions. I know the paper quality is the same, so I’m not going to be doing a pen test today, but let’s open it and see what I got I like all I’ve done is just here I’ll show you I just like lifted this and peek inside to make Sure it’s the right order and then I was like okay, I’m covering up the address and I am filming this bad boy roof.
So, let’s open this up, I know it’s going to look kind of crooked for a minute, but you get the create your own sunshine and it’s like a little postcard, which is great, and this feels different like it feels very, like silky compared to the other ones, Which is kind of cool and then unenjoyable of these, and then, if we open it up, I can never open it up like really nicely dum-dum-dum. Alright, let me pull all this stuff out of here, because I don’t like the crinkly sound when I do the article and let’s just keep on going so this is what I wanted to show you guys.
This is oh my gosh. I can’t like so many things on my desk here. Oh no, oh no things are falling down. Oh no things are falling, oh okay, hold on alright. Are we good? No we’re not we’re still, not good. Okay. Here it goes yeah. So here it is. This is the teacher lesson planner yeah look at this. It is so big you guys. Let me show you first scale, so this is my regular, like 7 by 9 Erin Condren planner, and let me just like put it right in the corner here.
So that’s the difference in size scale, crazy right. I think I like this big one. I think this is cool um, but anyway this is my like regular planner, but I just wanted to like pull that out for size. You still get one of these clip-in rulers, which has the protective film on it. I got the colorful pencils design, color away. I did not get it personalized because if you guys know me, I’m not like really into that much personalization, but you know I wanted to look at this.
It also has like the dry erase, so you can do this just like a regular one, and then you open up the first page and it says teacher lesson planner. This book belongs to so let’s just do like a little walkthrough of this, because I’ve never seen this before, and I want to know what’s in it too so anyway. This is just like a nice information page that has just like all of your contact information. Your classroom resources, the web resources and passwords classroom events and volunteers date and event, information, and I like how it has like all these little tabs to just like the regular planner, but it has like different types of tabs communication.
Log you’ve got 2018-2019 a lot of people like to use like little transparent, dots and put like a key up at the top or the bottom, just like in your you know the regular 7 by 9 life planner and then you’ve got your year plan. So you’ve got January through December and then we go along to graph paper. So we’ve got a couple of sheets of that yeah, a few sheets of graph paper, oh and then there’s some lined pages, and then this starts July on the front page of the July monthly view is just a bunch of lines which is nice and then also Dates to remember, if you’ve got like things going on or conferences or special meetings, or something like that nice to know, and then here is the month view and I like how, in the new planners for 2018 2019, they have included in the bottom right hand corner The next month, so you can kind of like look ahead, a little bit which is really great and then we’ve got all of our days, so you’ve got Monday through Friday and then you’ve got six different categories here.
So you’ve got one two three four five six and then you’ve got kind of a blank category which you could make like a seventh category, or it could be like a total of our Italian like that. So it’s just Monday through Friday and then also there’s just these little little lines. So it gives you a little bit of a guide which is nice, so if you’re, actually writing or if you’re, using stickers or whatever you’re trying to do so.
That happens for all of the weeks it looks like and then what happens at the end of the month. Okay, so the end of the month, you get two lined pages, which is fabulous, oh and then also when you flip to the next month, then you got more line pages, the dates to remember and then into August. So it goes like this until May of next year or sorry June of next year. I’m sorry, I didn’t. I can’t see y’all.
So let’s get to the end of June, alright! So we’re at the end of June here and then we’ve got oh. This is really nice. We’ve got a page that says July right there and that’s actually really nice. So if you know something that’s coming up in your next school year, like 2019 2020, which wow that sounds that sounds way far ahead. But it’s really not you. Can you know, make some notes or things like that to put into your next a teacher lesson planner.
This is just a little checklist and I believe the checklist was the one that you could get modified. So you could get the standard amount of pages or you could get more pages for a fee, but I like that there is a you know, name category, oh and it says you can fold or cut along this line. Okay, so you can go. I don’t know like you, can do it like this, I’m not a teacher guys, I don’t know, and you can put like assignments up here and then you can just like keep going with.
You know what you got happened in here or a name. I don’t know. I don’t know how this works, but yeah. I got some extra pages because I started to like see how it would look and then I want to see the back, because I have heard that the stickers are really really good, y’all, okay, all right and then so. The back says, a good teacher is like a candle. It consumes itself to light the way for others.
That’s a really cute all right, and then these stickers are so good. So you’ve got some calculators stars globes checks, books, hearts. It looks like kind of sciency. Looking things exclamation points, it says IEP little asterisks and then we got some apples and then there’s some different phrases says note to self meeting. Furlough assembly, holiday, testing, reminder field trip conferences and to do which is all on the different kinds of foil.
Hopefully, that’s coming off on camera, it’s kind of a gloomy day today, so it might not be coming off on camera very well and then we have this sheet, which is so pretty. It’s got like coffee and birthday cake and like just some functional and decorative. Oh, this is so pretty and then these little apples down here say like big day break time to prep me time note to self you did it awesome and way to go.
Those are really cute. Oh my gosh, I’m like obsessed with these. These binder clips are giving me life you guys those are so freaking cute. Oh my gosh, this whole page, like I just I want this whole pages. So, yes, there is more of these functional and decorative stickers. Loving this and the foil is so good y’all, oh and then we’ve got our standard, our tried-and-true basic, functional event, stickers, which is awesome and then over here on the back side, we’ve got a pocket folder, which is great, and then it’s got.
You know this pocket back here too again. Over here is going to be. Oh, this is that um. Alright, this is another thing you could get more of. I believe I think you could add additional ones in here. This is like a slip pocket, so you could. It’s like a sheet protector, so you can put you know things in here, so you could put like this kind of stuff in here. I guess, or you could put like sheets in there.
I believe that you could order more of these to get coiled in to your planner as well kind of cool right and then the back is the same as the front, but reversed cool right. I know some of you are going to be like Emily you’re. Clearly, not a teacher and you clearly don’t have children. What are you going to do with this planner, and my answer is I’m not sure, but I thought that this would be a really cool thing to show you guys just so you can see the inside of it.
I mean I’ve been an Erin Condren fan for like several years and I had never seen like physically seen the inside of a teacher planner from Erin Condren ever so. It’s kind of cool, like I think, it’s kind of neat, and even even if okay so like this is me trying to like modify everything in life. So, even if you worked like a regular like a Monday through Friday job – and you never worked a weekend or anything like that, you could definitely use this.
You know probably the like the checklists or whatever, but you could definitely use this for like different categories of the day or I don’t know I mean you could use it for so many different things and I think that’s just kind of like what’s cool about a Lot of the products from Erin Condren is that you can kind of modify it to fit the needs of whatever you want it for, but I think it would be actually be really cool for like a work planner as well.
You know like if you wanted to modify it, but you know you can just use like a regular life planner as well. But if you really like these categories, which I kind of find really interesting, that would be really really kind of cool and even okay. So this is like back in the day when I used to do like retail management, and I didn’t have like a ton of employees, but I’m just thinking about this right now on the fly sitting here so say, like November 5th, through 9th I mean.
Obviously I worked retail but, like I didn’t, have a ton of employees I at one of the locations I worked at doing retail. I think I had like 6 employees, so this would actually be perfect. So, like you could put everybody’s like all the employees names on there and then the shift that they like. If they work on Monday, then you put their shift down and then you put like tasks for them. So you could like literally just have this open like on the desk, and then people could come in and see like.
Oh Tim needs to do blah-blah-blah-blah-blah and then, like Heather needs to do dinner to do on this date. Like that’s kind of nice, you could just like check it off when it’s done like that would actually be really kind of a cool thing. But this is just me talking about ideas, so obviously you could do whatever you want to with it. But I think this is a really really neat planner for sure, or I wanted to show you guys this planner, but I also want to show you guys the rest of the haul that I got so when I was talking to the team at Erin Condren.
I really wanted this article to be focused on this planner, as well as some of the accessories that I feel like could be used for lots of different things, and so, let’s get into some of the accessories. So with my order came these pins. Let me zoom in a little bit for the rest of this, because yeah these pens are amazing. They are the fine tip designer gel pens in the classic there’s four of them at 0.
5. Millimeter fine point pens. I have not tried them yet, but let’s try them now, I’m going to just. I just have some like white sticking on paper. I know some people actually got these, but they were supposed to be just like a free gift with purchase as of right now. But I don’t know if they’re going to put them on their website at all. Maybe they will. I don’t know so. Let’s try them all right. So there’s the green kind of skipped a little bit at the very beginning, but of course it’s never been used before.
So that could be something to do with it. This one skipped a little bit at the beginning too, but saved itself. In the end, these feel really nice. Actually, yes, these do feel quite nice, oh yeah, the black ones, my favorite for sure, but yeah. These feel really nice. Let me young tsumugi isn’t so you can see that a little bit better. So at the very beginning it was skipping a little bit, but that’s because I’m clearly never never used this before.
So that’s probably why so? The next thing I got was some Flair. They got the Erin Condren signature glasses with a mug of happiness and then also a pencil not going to take these out, because I don’t think it really. You know you don’t need to like see them in action. They’re. Just some Flair pins, which I I also ended up getting these lined sticky notes. These are the new ones for last or new ones.
For last you new ones for this year, that are the teacher collection, and let me show you guys what it looks like inside of the lesson planner. So usually you grab a month, and then you put it right here yeah, like fits perfect, it’s got this little 3m tab right here, so you could really put it on whatever you would like. The sticky is the same as last year, where it goes down about half way a little less than half way, and then you can just sticker right on to here kind of nice right and then this is the old planner.
I don’t have a new planner for this year yet, and I don’t know if and when I’ll I mean, I don’t know when I’ll be getting one, but this is the same size as the ones from last year. If you guys can see that like it goes down all the way but yeah, I think that’s really nice, I’m I like a good sticky note. You guys, I really do enjoy a good sticky. Note! Oh – and these are called the stylized sticky note pad also a free gift was.
This was free with a teacher lesson planner when I placed the order and then these are really cool too they’re. Just some gift labels and they’ve got a couple of different designs. Let’s look at them, but this was also a free gift at the time that I placed the order, and so you’ve got oh cool, there’s a couple of different varieties in here. You could use these for like nametags or you could use them for, like gift, sir, I don’t know you could kind of use them for a little bit of whatever so yeah there’s quite a few in here, Wow cool but yeah.
You could use these for like some name tags or just labeling things in the classroom or just gift tags really neat right. The next thing is something I’m super excited about, and I’m probably going to be using and my normal planning session. Is this a plus style sticker pad? It’s got 16 pages of stickers and there’s more than a thousand in here, I’m so excited for this. Oh, my goodness. I’m an excitement overload at the moment.
Oh this is so pretty good when this like feels like really nice. Oh, it’s got like a little window, so these are some gorgeous stickers. These are those like clear stickers which are in there new sticker book, there’s kind of like the regular matte stickers and then some of the like clear, transparent stickers. These are those and they just feel so nice and there’s a bunch of sayings on there a bunch of decorative elements and then we get into some regular stickers.
So some nice functional stickers with some tabs and then little Flags, more flags, and these have some nice little apples on them and then these ones have stars on them and then we’ve got a lot of like meeting things so like there’s a just a blank spot. Two blank spot, so you could, you know, put in a time or something like that, be really nice and the planner. These are pretty. Oh. I like these yep, I’m going to need these.
These are gold and then they have a little asterisks right. There love a good aligned anything. This is so nice. Oh, these are really cute. These are little binder clips and some have just like little paper clips, so nice and then we’ve got some quotes and then these here, oh look at it. This way. These are really really nice. Some nice school sayings and teacher sayings back to this way, and then this page again is one of those transparent pages.
It’s really glossy, oh, it feels so nice like Buddha and then we’re back to the regular paper that has a bunch of the days of the week on it ooh. This is the glossy paper again with all the different icons on there and then again the glossy with the alphabet, more alphabet, o n numbers, and this is the regular paper and then this is all the rose, gold and the capital letters. Oh my gosh. I’m really excited about this, you guys and next up.
I got this two-sided dashboard in the live, love, learn and yeah. Let’s, let’s check her check her out. So clearly you can put this inside of your planner, but you know you can snap it onto here. I really really wanted to do is look at this with this. Oh and it’s definitely that you could fit right here as well, so they did make them a little bit shorter, for you know the teacher lesson planner ones, so you could put them with your regular erin condren life planner.
If you wanted to very cool nice, I also got these. These are the fine tip what erase marker sets they’ve had the other ones in the past, but this is the fine tip one. So I wanted to check these guys out and see so, let’s, let’s do it together, so you’ve got black and we’ve got blue. I got green and this one’s kind of a. I don’t know kind of a pinky color cool and these do usually take a minute or two to dry, but they usually work.
Pretty well is what I’ve heard. I don’t. I don’t really use a lot of the what erase markers and my daily planning, but I like that. There’s a fine tip point though too, because you know the other ones are just a fatter tip points. You just can’t get enough. You know written down sometimes depending on how much text you want to write down on any of the dashboards. Also, you could use these inside of your cover right here as well, but yeah, it’s totally dry now.
So it’s just been a second, no crazy editing going on right. There I promise and then the last thing I got. I actually need a scissors for because it was something that was customizable. I actually didn’t customize it at all, but I know a lot of people would customize it for themselves if they were a teacher, but I just thought it was really interesting and I wanted to see it in person. So this bad boy right here is a substitute report and it’s just in the regular rainbow version.
So it says substitute report and there’s like a little dashes for the day and it says class of and that’s where you can actually customize it, to put your name or what class it is. If it’s like history or I don’t know whatever it is, and then this box has helpful people to talk to so reliable students, other teachers, the principal vice principal and then the secretary and then the time and activity absences and tardies, classroom, behavior and then some area For notes what we did today, what we didn’t get to today – star students and then difficult students, so this is really nice.
Also on the back. Are these little sticky guys? So you could definitely put this either in like the back of a notebook, or you could put this also either in the back or the front of this guy right here. I know a lot of people end up doing that. Also, let me put that right there. So it’s a little bit more centered in the frame for you, sorry, I’m like filming and it’s not that far away from the camera.
But this would be really nice too, because then it would just sit like this whoops. I can’t do it right and then it would be up a little bit on your actual planner right here, but it would just be nice to have everything all in the same spot or I know a lot of people that have gotten those planner folios really really Enjoy them, and that would actually be really really nice. To put you know something like this in there that you may not use that often all right, so those are all the things I have to show you today, that are my teacher, themed hall and first impressions.

So if you modify your Erin Condren teacher planner, let me know in the comments below how you do it. I think that’s a really fun idea what I talked about, where you could almost use it for your business and have task-orientated content inside of the planner, and things like that like that, would actually be kind of a cool thing to do, and then also it’s nice, Because you could like look back on that in a month or two and be like oh yeah, I did finish that that project or yes, I did send that email or I did do that follow-up.
So I think it’s like kind of cool that we can always just modify things to customize our own lives, but anyway, that is going to be it for me today. What’s the trade-off Bateen drop in one album per year versus drop in two projects per year? Is it really worth it, etc, etc, etc? Let’s get to that answer. So, let’s start with the fact that after the content is fully created and ready to go, there is one thing: that’s most important awareness getting it out to the public as many of the right people as possible.
But then, within that awareness there are three ways that you make that happen. No more uno is effort to is money and three is resources. So when I say resources in this case, it’s a little bit more general we’re talking about people and whatever other random assets. You might have that might be able to benefit to you getting people’s attention now. Let me start here: there is no way I can just drop.
Some kind of one size fits all knowledge saying that you should just drop one project a year or you should drop two projects a year or three projects a year, and that fits everybody. But what I can say is these are some things that you should be thinking about whenever you use up all your primary resources, thinking might miss out on some opportunities now. What do I mean by that? Let’s just say that you spend $ 5,000 on your marketing for your project or you’re single.
After all, that money spent all of a sudden. You just happen to meet somebody and get this huge opportunity for this platform, but they say it costs $ 200. But you don’t have any money anymore. You have to miss that opportunity. That’s just a part of the game. You will miss some opportunities here and there. Obviously you want to keep as much in the chamber as possible for you to take advantage of an opportunity and when I say in the chamber I don’t just mean money.
I mean people to leverage other effort to leverage all the other types of resources. So why is that relevant to this conversation? Well, just consider the fact that you say I got two projects that I’m dropping this year and I’m going to split everything in half $ 500 towards this project $ 500 towards this project. Now, hopefully, it’s more money than that. But the point is: if you do that, you might not be able to give this big of a push that gets it to a certain level.
But if you put a thousand on one project – and you don’t put out the next music, then essentially you are taking less, which means you have less of a chance of hitting on something. If you just drive one project, then you technically taking less shots, which means there’s less chances of you making it be. Everything is a trade-off. So am I say what if I drop this one project and then I drop the second project and all of a sudden, some of the things on my first project started taking off, but I already have another one off: that’s all cool! If you have something catching it’s catching yeah, you might not have the money to double down on it, but remember if it’s really good content, if it’s great content, you actually can make it pop again later now that stuff is out in the marketplace.
You see. What’s working take a step back as you get the money that you need, you can now put it in those places that work the best translation, whichever songs are moving the best on their own, which everyone seem like. Oh snap, this one might be a hit. I didn’t realize it: that’s the song that you’re going to put all your resources back into once you get the opportunity to again it on the bright side, slash not so bright side a lot of times.
We think a project or these songs are going to be huge. This junk is my best material. Oh snap, I had my hoodie on. I was writing all Deeping all that stuff and when we get out to the market, it’s a good and it’s good. It’s good. I got it out the way now I can move on to my new stuff. So that’s a positive in that way. If you win or you lose, you just have to stay agile and that’s the most important part right.
You always want to be able to use some of your resources to get the amount of information you need, but hopefully have enough in the chamber to double down on what you need to. But if you can’t do it immediately, at least you got the information on what worked for you and which singles might be worth pushing further than you already pushed them, and now you got ta put in that work. That’s just a reality of the game.
Let me go find some money somehow I don’t know what you do for your money but go and do it and then bring it back to your project. More specifically, the singles that are working right now to push a whole project at the very beginning and how all of the gifts out there once is not the most effective use of your money. The most effective use is yeah drop, a project, but let’s see which of these singles are worth pushing further and then, when they see they love.
This thing will they’ll check out the rest of it. We all know how that goes at this point and we know LMA song took off over a year later and we know juice world song really took off, maybe like six to eight months later, you have time to go back, REE up and then bring it back Home, so what I say for the newer artists, especially if you aren’t really in the system with a manager – that’s well connected or you’re able to get on a lot of these big playlist cuz.
You have all these industry connectors or whatever just drop more music to projects, and one year is not really that much, especially since two projects just means, like 14 songs, for a lot of people these days. The only thing that’s truly important is how you’re able to manage the resources that you have. Let the people decide whether they like the music or hate. It they’ll figure that out it’s up to you to take that information and use your resources to give them more of what they like and even more than that, take what they like that you’re doing and give that thing to more people.
But of course, y’all get that already y’all, so smart looking job and don’t forget every Sunday for the rest of this year 2018. I will be answering questions on IG, so follow me at brandman, Shawn and other than that. You, like this article, go ahead that like button even like it, you might as well share it and if you’re not subscribed, you know what to do hit that subscribe.
It’s good. Did you get a haircut? I did a haircut new accent, new new new. Look. You feel it’s good! It’s good you’re, looking better than before. You feel better than before. You’re, not mad. I am NOT no hi, I’m Rob Dodson, I’m a developer advocate on the chrome team, sure Rob just just sell, sell yourself. I mean hello and also uh you’re selling stuff, also host a little show on the chrome Developers.
Youtube blog called alley cast world-renown. Is that what we’re calling it yes well world renowned, I see people around the world have renowned it. I think, okay, all right, believe what you want to believe, but today we’re going to be talking about accessibility, audit, Angley right. What is your workflow for that? Look? Like yeah, so over here on, my laptop I’ve got a site that I’ve been working on.
This is called lifestyle. It’s got some cool like hipster photos and stuff, like that people have styles of the accessible and famous all right yeah, and what I usually do when I’m you know working on improving the accessibility of a site is, I will use the new audits panel in chrome, Dev tools, which is very very nice if you go to create a new audit, you’ll, see that you’ve got like a number of options inside of there, so you could look at PW, anus, best practices, etc.
One of the topic areas is accessibility, so you can just go run, just an accessibility audit. If you don’t, you don’t feel like doing the other tests. Here’s one that I ran against the page and it’s doing pretty. Okay right. It’s got on anyone not so bad, but there’s definitely a few issues that we need to fix and in particular one that I see a lot is, is color contrast, so you’ve got your your your foreground text.
Maybe is a little too light on the background. Color one of the nice things that we can do with the audits panel is we can actually dive in and we can see which elements specifically have failing contrast. So here I can see that I’ve got this like product card price element and if I click on that and stretch this out a little bit, you can see. It’ll take me over to my elements panel and I can actually scroll in to view the actual element that is failing just this price right, y’all, nice and it already selects the domnode for you, that’s cool, yeah, and so one of the things that’s really helpful.
Is you know really this is this? Allow me to sort of quickly identify this node, but one of the things we’re working on, which is over here in Chrome, Canary right now, is actually a color picker. That will make it a little bit easier for you to fix those contrast issues. So if you’re in something like Chrome Canary, you can go into Chrome, colon, slash, slash flags, you can look for the word: developer tools, experiments, oh you’re, in flags and experiments.
You look like to live dangerously, oh yeah, oh yeah, so dangerously, so we enable the developer tools, experiments right. We step into the future, it’ll refresh our browser for us. We can go back over here pop up in as the dev tools click on this little Settings. Menu good, where it says experiments da da and here we can see, we’ve got accessible the inspection as well as color contrast ratio line.
So let’s see what that does so we’ll go, find that same node. That was giving us problems over here. Inspect it and then we can see in our Styles panel I got a little color sread and click on that and you’ll see that there’s this little line inside of my color palettes. This is actually a sea mmmmm-hmm. This was actually telling us like. Where are our colors needs to be in order to have sufficient color contrast? So, since we’re above the line, we get this little warning that says, we’ve got a little contrast.
I happen to know that this is not like the final look for this piece of UI. It’s still being iterated on, but it’ll be something like this, where you’ve got a line and you can sort of tell which side is the good side of the bad side. So I can actually just drag this below the line. That warning goes away. You can see over here. It’s also like updating my element live in the document and it’ll sort of tell me what the good color contrast ratio is.
So I can just grab that value right off here and then go back and just fix it in my CSS. That’s pretty neat, so I was trying this out the other week and something that occurred to me was that you know if, if you use a developer, realize that the contrast is a little bit off, do you need to go back to your designers at that point, And say: well, is this okay for our brand and thing is that’s when they should be factored in earlier on in the process I ideal.
Yeah like this is there’s, there’s definitely other design tools out. There there’s, I think, there’s plug-ins for sketch, and things like that, which will also help you look at the color contrast for your designs and make sure things are not too low. Contrast, anytime, you can catch that earlier in the process, make sure all the designers are on board and all the stakeholders are on board and and that sort of like makes it easier when those things come downstream for folks to implement it, and it doesn’t kind of, Like a contentious issue or anything cool, that’s that’s awesome.
The house audit also had some other accessibility stuff in there as well right. So it had contrast. No, I was highlighting all the tributes to alt attributes, yep yep, so yeah. If we go back to that report, let’s see here so yeah a few of the things that that this site was failing. It’s missing some alt attributes. We’ve got form elements that don’t have associated labels: the big problem there is you land on a control, and maybe it says that it’s a button, but it doesn’t tell you what kind of button right is it the you know, sin my social security number to hackers Button, I don’t want to click that button right.
I want to make sure that I’m clicking the right kind of controls. I know what I’m interacting with we’ve got over. I think 32 tests, or maybe even over 35 tests in in the lighthouse accessibility checker here and under the hood. These tests are all based on a library called axe core which is made by some folks at a DQ so yeah. We we work at the axe, core library we leverage to the test from inside of it and we sort of integrated into dev tools.
You can hop around and inspect the notes. Real, quick, that’s awesome, so this is great again for locally checking on your accessibility issues. What about CI and continuously monitoring your accessibility? Is there a story for that too yeah? Absolutely so the the lighthouse library itself can be used as a standalone node module. So you can pull that into your CI process. If you want to do that or alternatively, you could use the axe core library that is powering these tests and you could use that standalone.
The the nice thing there is, you can sort of decide which accessibility tests you want to turn on or off, depending on sort of the criteria that you’re trying to meet very cool. So we’ve got lots of great tooling for accessibility, auditing. What about docks or education material? Yes, we have that as well. So if you go to developers.Google.Com/live Sunda mental, slash accessibility, we have a whole section there on getting started with accessibility for the web, and it also includes links to our Udacity course.
So that’s like a multi-week kind of hands-on experience where you actually like build stuff and read a bunch of articles and kind of get up to speed on accessibility, very cool yeah. I feel, like my lifestyle, is more accessible, already yeah cool yeah, thanks for having me today, yeah thanks for coming down awesome yeah people should check out ala cast: oh yeah, oh yeah,
