You would think Layne Becker would be excited about this, but he literally vomited when this occurred. Why is that? He made no money and when I say he made no money, I’m talking about zero him and his early investors. How did this happen? We will get into that, but that’s the premise of this article, the fact that artists and founders are so much alike. A lot of times we actually over demonize the music industry, not realizing that this is just how business goals.
If you don’t handle your business, and I want to contrast the differences between the two actually more of the similarities between the two, hopefully you’ll be able to transfer the knowledge, see how it applies and, at the end of the day, become a better business person. In your own particular area, so starting with the artist and the founder right, those are the same person in this example and similar to the artist right.
Their first round of funding where they get their first money is either themselves when they’re starting their company. Maybe they might be hitting up friends and family, there’s literally a friends and family around that people use colloquially a lot because they’re kidding up calling everybody in the family asking for money trying to save money for the business or angel investors, which is kind of a Somewhat of a next level, these are people who will invest, they have money but they’re, not truly those venture capitalists, which is the next level.
It’s the same thing for an artist right, you’re, either funding it yourself or you’re, scraping around asking people. You know the next level is when things really starts to get tricky, though all right, the venture capitalists and the record labels, so the venture capitalist, obviously the founder side, we’re thinking about tech and a lot of the other industries and then the record label side, because Both of these people can be helpful all right, but at the same time, these people are no one to play with.
So leverage is important for both companies on both sides. We hear so much about artists needing to build leverage if they really want to get a deal where they’re not screwed with a label, but the same thing goes when it comes to business in general, if you’ve readed any episodes of Shark Tank. What do you see? What are yourselves that’s one of the main things they’re going to add. They might entertain all the other stuff, but before they start investing they’re like yo, what are the sales – and it might have been this great pitch to where they were so bought in, but once they hear they’re in zero sales, they’re like whoa same thing, for an Artist right, why does that make sense? Because if anybody is investing in you, they’re investing to get a return and their return has to answer to what actually happens with the investment right? Do you have fans? Can you make the money back? Is your product sellable? Do people actually want your product? Can you make the money back? That’s the end question, and that doesn’t mean that nobody appreciates art.
That doesn’t mean that nobody appreciates somebody meeting a chance and all that stuff. It just means if you were an investor, you expect your money back, so you have to analyze not based on the heart and what I believe is awesome, music and all that stuff you have to analyze on. Will this vehicle bring me back my money, you put yourself in a better position to have some sort of leverage Point Blank period and if we look at Shark Tank again is another example.
You’ll see right that people get some pretty bad deals at times or offers write. Some pretty aggressive offers some of the investors to take a lot of control from the people if they don’t believe that the person is right, so you’ll see a situation where literally Mark Cuban – or somebody will say, hey, I’m going to just give you this much money. But I want the whole business cuz. I don’t think you’re the right person to run it, the less sales you have, the less likely people will want it at all or the more they’ll want to control your situation.
Point Blake, so leverage. Now, on the founder side, you might have customers or users and on the artist side, of course, you have fans and in the same way as an artist you’re looking for your first fans right and you’re, getting your early product out there, the early version of yourself Out there, businesses are doing the same right. They have a a minimal, Viable Product right, the product that can find and connect with the fans who need it, the most or the users who need it, the most and they’re trying to connect with those people.
So they can get some feedback and some money that gives them a tomorrow, so they can build and continue to get another tomorrow and another tomorrow until they get to a point where they’re a full-blown business that can is truly self sustained. That’s the same thing that you’re trying to do as an artist right, you’re, trying to build fans and build fans until they can start to fund tomorrow and then fund another tomorrow.
Until you have a lot of tomorrow’s and your tomorrows become weeks months and years, you have a full-on career, it’s the same path, business in so many ways it’s sex, especially principally, is business so that core product and your core fan base. Those are the things that start to relate right: the core product with the core customers and then the core music, like that initial, that niche type music, not just your commercial stuff, and then the core fan base around that and both of these.
This is when it gets more interesting and something that has to be readed out for, and that is the fact that there is core product on both ends. You have the type of music of yours that your core fanbase loves and a company has its core product right. That thing that solves the initial need, but both have a tendency to get caught up in features so for a product in a company features, are something that are additional to the main thing that matters, and sometimes the features are so shiny that we’re like yo.
I’m going to chase this, and this is going to change the world, and this is what they’re going to want they’re going to love me. But the thing fails in the same way the iPad, it’s kind of a feature of a product right when we’re thinking about a bigger company. It’s an extended brand line that doesn’t necessarily have the need of the phone and it doesn’t have the need of the Mac. In itself, it’s that middle ground, but you can do the same thing with a specific product.
Let’s say my Mac, all of a sudden had a heat pad. That was warm because it would be cold outside right at the mouse. Like I touched it and all of a sudden the computer got warm. I could put my hand on it. Yeah, that’s nice, but I can’t put my entire direction of my company on that, because it’s not the core product, even though it’s cool companies get lost on that. That sounds like an obvious example, but companies get lost on that all the time and artists do something similar when they try to get caught up in this whole diversity thing – and I want to do all this stuff, but forget what my core fanbase loves me for And it’s nice, you are a person, you should be able to express yourself and get all these other things out, but you also when we’re talking about it from a business and have to be able to answer to who your core fan base is and what’s going To keep you in there and then last but not least, this is where we get back to get satisfaction that acquisition, how to founder, had zero dollars, losing control alright and there’s two ways to look at it.
First, you have to lose control that happens with a lot of founders and the business starts to go down. We can even look at Steve Jobs, even though you know, arguably, he wasn’t completely ready to even take it to the space that it eventually became, but the whole idea of losing the DNA of your company losing the DNA of your company, those founders losing control, because You decide I’m going to put a CEO in this place – a seasoned CEO in this place, because the founder doesn’t have that experience and I, as an investor, want to make sure that my investment is protected.
I don’t want to trust this newbie with it. That happens to a lot of founders. They literally get booted just for a seasoned. Ceo now same thing happens with artists as well, though, when you get in labeled situations, and you get all these, you know mines in the pot. In that situation, the artist is losing creative control, so you’ll hear a lot of artists, say man, I listen to too many people, or I allowed other people to really take on my project when it wasn’t coming for me and now, because I lost that creative control.
My product became something that it shouldn’t have and the companies get affected the same way they go down because the consumers they feel it, but in the last level of losing control that I’m referring to is obviously the fact that this founder lost control of their business And how did they lose control of their business? They lost control of their business through investments all right, because these people start to own more and more of your business.
In the same way, your masters might be owned if you’re, an artist right or whatever your IP right, your your image can literally be owned as an artist. This same thing essentially happened to this man in Layne Becker story. You can actually see a combination of all the things that went wrong because in 2010, three years after I’m founding the company, he got pushed out three years after the company sold five years later.
But it didn’t just sell because it was doing well it’s sold because it was either going out of business or it was going to be acquired. There was something called a fire sale which means look week. Somebody buyers over out of here. We don’t really have a choice, and why was it in that position? Maybe some of that could be contributed to not having that initial creative energy that person that was supposed to be there in the same way, the artist should be involved in their project in that creative process, they lost that DNA when they lost the founder.
That can play a large part into that situation and then, last but not least, though Becker actually admitted to not being honest with himself and that being a large portion of why he lost control. And what I mean by that is think about as an artist when an artist wants to hop into a deal knowing they’re, not in a position to be in control of their career, knowing that they don’t have a true fan base that reality is not there.
However, they allow themselves to think and feel that they’re bigger than they are, or they allow other people to pump themselves up to feel that way, because the label or whoever you’re, trying to sign to it’s going to pump you up and make you feel that way. They allow that to happen, and then you put yourself in a aggressive financial situation that you can’t account for right. You take a bigger investment that you’re not going to be able to pay back.
It’s an artist taking a huge advance when they know that their fan base isn’t in place or just taking more money that you need in general, where you can one operate by yourself or maybe you just need a little bit to get you by, but instead you Want to go for the big pot when you’re not ready to even take that bike. It’s something to consider, because, again, all these problems exist in all types of business.
The principles are always there is just if you notice them or not and again, no matter what type of business you’re not going to win doing bad business. That just is how the game is going to be set up. You can’t expect anybody there’s going to be putting money into you to look at you purely for who you are and and the amazingness of the product. At the end of the day, they have to make their money back that’s their goal, and then you have your particular goals, but once you take their money, you also have to answer to their goals as well, because you have a fiduciary responsibility.
That’s just something to consider. Please please of course, start to look at other forms of business to really inform how you can look at music and and move throughout your music career and people outside of you know: music, look at music because music is helpful. There’s situations and analogies are all there. I would like to know what you guys think. Do you guys see similarity between tech founders and artists? Do you guys see any other business celebrities or have any other stories? Anything that’s interesting to tell and other than that.
This is yet another episode of culture shock where we talk music business in pop culture from a different perspective, you know what to do. He dares subscribe.
If you want to do this most of the time, because you can always find exceptions so to just about any of these guidelines that they’re going to be exceptions right, if you’re doing a standard website for standard business or organization, these are good rules of thumb. To follow so kind of summarize, some of the ones that we talked about so far, we talked about a website being, first of all, content having good content and by good, accurate, updated and what the visitors of the site need and again a lot of times when People talk about web design, they focus on sort of the surface of it.
The superficial aspects of it, the color, the fonts and all that and that’s an important part of web design. But just important in my mind, is making sure you have the right content. Then doesn’t happen by accident all right. It doesn’t happen by accident that you have the right content for a website. Everything you do about a website ought to be thought through and planned all right and um sites.
You know you may look at this and say well it’s obvious and all that, but I guess I don’t know. I guess obvious to who the whole point of web design is that you’re going to have a whole bunch of decisions to make, starting with what content you’re going to have on the site. How you’re going to organize the site on what the site is going to? Look like what the pages are going to look like and all these ought to be deliberate decisions all right and they ought to be deliberate decisions guided by the goals of your organization and just, as importantly, the girls of the people that are visiting the site.
All right, so content is a design principle. Choosing the correct content. The site that is well organized is something that we talked about and more organized. We talked about a couple different ways that it could be well organized one is we can talk about the overall site being well organized another? Is the information is categorized in such a way that is clear to the user, where to find everything it doesn’t do any good to have a website that has tons of great information if no one can ever find anything on it all right.
It’s amazing, when I have talked to people that have developed web sites that aren’t particularly good on the most common compare their users is that they can’t find the information that they’re looking for and sometimes what managers or web ball masters or whatever you want to call Them get defensive and say well that content is there, but if people can find it, it doesn’t do any good if it’s there.
So, therefore, the host site ought to be organized and it ought to be organized in a way that makes sense to the users or the site visitors. It doesn’t do any good. If I, as the web developer, understand the way the site is organized and it makes perfect sense to me, it needs to make sense to people outside of the organization. It may need to make sense to the users, so the sight of all ought to be organized and individual pages ought to be organized, and this is why we use things like color and borders and putting space between things and different fonts and so on.
We don’t just do it to make the pages look nice. Obviously we do want the pages to look good. No one wants the development of the website, but we do it in a purposeful way to sort of help guide the user through the way that our pages are organized. So it becomes obvious that that green column on the left side of the pages of navigation, all right and the contact informations in a blue strip on the bottom of the page or whatever.
Alright. So our pages are organized and we use these things visually. To help emphasize the stuff that needs emphasis alright, so that would be a second guideline or web development. A third guideline is consistency, and that also can mean several different things. Consistency in terms of how pages are laid out now that doesn’t mean that every page needs to be laid out in an identical fashion, all right, but there should be some sort of consistency to it.
You don’t want to make it look like. You are visiting two different sites as you navigate around your website, so stuff should appear in a consistent place, and usually that means having a banner on the top of the page having a navigation somewhere either along top along the left or along the right. Maybe having a footer with additional information and then having an error area for content information.
Now we can go to different sites and see that not every page is organized identically, but there is some sort of consistency. All right. Consistency also relates to the terminology that we use within our website and I’ll give you an example of how that could be very confusing years ago. I work for a software company that dealt with people in the food business all right now in the vocabulary of that business principle, manufacture and maybe even one other word principal manufacturer now, maybe even been another word all meant the same thing.
Alright, so we’re developing a website, we will want to keep the use of the term consistent. If they’re calling those people principles, we would want to call them principles on every page. We wouldn’t want to call them manufacturers on one page and principles on the other, because that would be confusing to people all right, so you want to be consistent with the way that you phrase things so, for example, on the site for colleges, maybe for college.
Maybe we would have a page for prospective students and we call it prospective students. We wouldn’t want to call that something else on another page call it future students or something like that, because people love to see that and think that that means something different so be consistent in the terminology that you use call things the same way all right. That’s a guideline. Another guideline is sort of a consistency between the appearance should singer to match the content.
Does anyone know what I mean by that that your parents should match the content? Yes, okay, if your page is about space, you don’t want to put unicorns and ponies about on it. That’s probably a good idea. Does anyone else have another example? The example I always give is, I think, of two examples on you know how many of you have been on the barbie website within the past month or okay. Well, that’s fine! You’re not allowed to answer this question.
Only the people that have not been on the barbie site. What color do you think is the Barbie website pink, let’s see if you’re right, you don’t have to justify or explain. That’s: okay, no, no judgments. Okay, I’m pulling up the site for Barbie and looky here sure enough. The main colors is pink all right. Okay! Does someone named a heavy metal band? How do you spell that august burns red? This is a slightly surprising others, guys what color their site is going to be and what would you have guessed black and that’s what what I would have guessed to it’s, not black, but it does have a certain look for it.
Let’s go my old school. Let’s try Ozzie yeah well, Black Sabbath would be cheating but Ozzie. I think it’s fair game all right and again Wow lookie. Here, it’s mostly black all right. So the point is: is that could you imagine both ends might be very well designed sites? You know we didn’t spend a lot of time looking at them, but I’m going to say yeah both of my well design sites, but they look totally different.
Well, why is that? Well, they have different audiences in mind and they have different sorts of content and the appears that they picked match the content that they had now. These are very obvious choices, but you could have less obvious choices as well. What sort of look would you want from a bank? You may look very professional, you wouldn’t want unicorn gifts on the side or you wouldn’t want pastel colors or something like that on again.
The other word that a lot of people – and I think it’s this a dumb word, but but people use it all the time is branding right. You want to get across your brand’s. Look, you know Apple. I think we looked at them the other day. We could almost guess what their site is going to. Look like the whole idea of Apple computers is meant to be they’re, very sophisticated and designed and sleek and simple to use, and all that and the website matches that corporate image alright um.
On the other hand, the kids website, if it was done up in a very serious manner, like a new site. Well, you know everyone have any appeal to the audience, so I think the good way to summarize that would be to say that the appearance of the site should match the content in tone. Now, here’s where we might point out that there could be exceptions to this. There might be an exception to this, where you don’t want the appearance of the site to match the tone.
There’s one website that I’m thinking there’s a classic example of this. I’m thinking of the website the onion, the look of the onion is a satirical newspaper, so it’s meant to be fun. It’s meant to be humorous, I’m not going to pull it up because who knows what’s going to be on their page today? I don’t. I don’t want to have to explain to my Dean why I brought something up on the screen, but the onion is meant to be humorous.
It’s meant to be a fun site, yet it looks like a new site. It’s done in a very professional looking new site. Look well, that’s like part of the joke. It’s like pretending that this is a real real life newspaper and hear some humorous stories that came up with so that’s the case where they did. They broke this guideline that they did it deliberately, because that sort of adds to the appeal of it so again getting back to these.
These are pretty solid guidelines and, most of the time you should follow them. But if you think hard enough, you can find exceptions to all of these um one other good. Well designed a guideline is be sure. Your purpose is clearly stated and again you go to the website. You should know immediately what the websites for you shouldn’t have to guess that G, what is this organization again that can be done or that could not be followed and it can be effectively done.
For example, there was a 44 either halo, a halo, 2 microsoft created a site called. I love bees and it looked like it was a sight for a beekeeper when you first went to it looked like it was just a hobbyist website, but then, when you got into the site it became clear that something else is going on. They they made. It look like something had infiltrated the system and blah blah blah blah blah, and it was like some backstory information for the game halo now, in that case, they intentionally didn’t make the site match the content of the appearances like match the content and they didn’t.
They hid their purpose why the thought was is to make it viral where people would be talking about it. Look I found this site in G. Isn’t this weird and it got people talking about that site and it was a very effective ad campaign form. Let me see if I can put it on, I am going to i’m going to use a site called the Wayback Machine. The wayback machine allows you to go and see what websites look like years ago.
There’s wan na see if I love, peas, bees as long as live it. It isn’t the original one. So I’m going to go and pull up the wayback machine. I think we use this in what I want to show leo burnett last time, because, unfortunately, they made their website a little better. So I couldn’t use it as a good example. So let’s go in and pour it out from december of 2004 and notice. How, in the background, it looks like a nice little site about bees, but you get this sort of fake error message and you can read the mission log and there’s bill audio clips and so on and so forth.
So this is a way. This is an advertising campaign and array for for them to go interest in it forget people to say gee. I wonder what this site is about all right and it went viral and people passed it on and it was part of a good marketing campaign. So all of us any of these guidelines that we have you could think of cases where you can serve baked the guidelines. Do keep in mind, though, that you better be clever if you’re going to try something like that right, because otherwise people are just going to look at and say this is dumb all right and and ignore it all right.
So um sort of the default is to go by the book and do these things but um, especially for websites that are safe for the entertainment business or for creative field. Then it’s okay, probably to think a little bit outside the box, because people expect that from creative sort of organizations. Well, as you know, if you’re a CPA, firm or something people aren’t going to expect your website to look like a game or look like it’s a children site or something like that all right.
So we could probably talk about more of these, but um in some respects. Well, one thing I hear from students. Sometimes when I teach the section of the course is there, like all these things are common sense. You know who would make a site for Barbie that looked like a site for a heavy metal band. You know who would make a site where pages were inconsistent and didn’t look like each other. Well, my point of all this is: is whatever we do in creating our site ought to be done as a set of conscious decisions, we’ll just throw things together.
We think about them in advance and plan that we’re going to do and in that way that’s going to give us the best results. So it’s like writing. A term paper is just like planning a cross-country Drive. You could shoot by the hip and say I want to go to California, so i’m going to get my car and drive rest all right. You’d probably end up at keller in california, eventually, but you wouldn’t necessarily take the best or most efficient route, all right, so playing and deliberately thinking about each of these steps is armed what we want to do in terms of developing a site so for your project.
There’s a procedure that I want you to follow and it starts off thinking very general and then it narrows down to more and more and more specifics all right. The basis of this is number one starting off by thinking about the content of the site. What are we going to put on the site? Remember, we said last time that content is king or content is queen. It rules. People don’t come to the site to your site to admire the beautiful design.
People come to it to get some information or to do something that they need to do so thinking about in deciding what your customers need to do, or what information they need is sort of the first job all right and to actually probably the first two jobs. All right, we think in general terms, and we think in more specific terms, then we start thinking about some of these other things. How are we going to organize the information? What is the appearance going to look like and so on? So, let’s pull up in canvas the description of what I want you to do and we’ll go through as much as this as we can today and we’ll finish this up on Tuesday.
These kinds of things, in my mind, are reading the heart of web design. Not what colors you’re going to use or what fonts are going to use that comes later. It’s just like designing an automobile yeah, making the interior look nice or making the outside look nice! That’s important that as an appeal to people all right, not the designing! The car to be safe, designing the card to be a fuel-efficient, designing the car.
So it’s easy to repair. Those are all things that are probably more important than that. It looks nice all right. So here’s an overview of the project somewhere over here. All right you get to pick whatever topic you like, I suggest you pick something. That’s fun all right pick something that you’re interested in you’re, going to probably work harder. If you develop something that, if you develop a site for something that you’re interested in then, if you just randomly picked a topic all right, I the student, it did a website about his motorcycles.
Well, he loved his motorcycles he’s not about to put pictures of his motorcycle on a bad website all right, so he worked hard to make sure that website looked good to do his motorcycles, proud all right and I would suggest you do the same approach now pick A topic that’s enjoy that you enjoy pick a topic, that’s neither too narrow or two brow broad okay, and this is where I can help all right. Neither to know or to broad is a good idea.
Um to know would be under arms are too broad would be something like I’m going to do a website about sports. Well, you can’t possibly cover everything about sports in six to eight pages. All right I mean how many sports are there. You know you can barely scratch the surface. On the other hand, you know if you picked a topic of the history of the Cleveland, Indians, mascot slider, there might be a little too narrow.
I don’t think you could get six to eight pages out of that. So the idea is, is you want to pick a topic? That’s like right there in the middle, where you can get six to eight pages, with the content and you’re doing a good job covering it, and it’s neither to broaden or too narrow, and this is where I can help almost any topic that you pick um can Be either expanded or contracted to be the right size? So if you have an idea about this um, you know we can talk about it.
Um a lot of people pick article games, something related to article games. The article games itself would be a big topic right. So you can know that down by saying I’m going to do about mobile article games. Maybe article games from your phone or puzzle, article games, rpgs or whatever it’ll pick a particular game or game series. I’m going to do about the final fantasy series or something like that.
Another way you could either expand or contract that on to to meet the requirements of six to eight eight pages. Each page should contain a reasonable amount of content. There’s some judgment in there right. What is a reasonable amount? I guess useful guide, what you see, typically on their own pages on the web. You know a page with one sentence on. It is probably not enough content, a page that has 15 paragraphs on it, there’s probably too much content on it.
So think, in terms of what you normally see on a website for appropriate amount of content, we want the site to be technically sound, well designed and to effectively communicate the intended message. All right. The site is done. This project consists of two parts: a design document which is sort of your plan and then the final deliverable, which is the finished website, all right, I’m going to talk about the plan.
First, the plan consists of five sections and just as a memory aid you can get, you can use words that all start with s for each of these sections. The approach that I’m taking here was in a book that used to be a required textbook for this class and you can still find copies in our library or probably even through safari books online, and that is the elements of the user experience. Yes, no, no! No! Technically sound, technically solid, alright think a sound like not not like audio sound but sound, meaning like in other words like will be you know, the the foundation of that house is sound.
It means it is solid, alright, so, in other words, you use the proper HTML and CSS your links work. Your images work you’ve coded in a way that technically is correct and solid. All right strategy section relates to the goals of the site. Scope relates to the requirements of the site. Structure relates to sort of the sitemap. Skeleton relates to the page layout or sometimes called a wireframe and finally, surface relates to a prototype.
Think of a prototype is sort of being a rough draft of your website again. Any task that you do is better is going to be better. Typically, if you think about it before you do it all right. Does it matter if you’re writing a term paper or planning a trip or planning repairs in your house or anything like that? Any project that you’re going to do, if you’re flying by the seat of your pants and you’re just winging it as you go along you’re not going to get as good results is.
If you step back and think systematically of the approach that you’re going to take. All right, the first section is strategy, and that’s where you you do a couple things in the strategy sections. First of all, you come up with a high-level description of the site. Maybe I’m going to do a website about the article game, tetris all right now that by itself is not probably sufficient, the more specific you can define your purpose, the more or the better that you can actually go and achieve it.
So maybe I’m going to develop a a website about the game tetris and it’s meant for students that are learning how to develop article games or is meant for gamers or is meant for the general public, or maybe this meant for all three groups is meant for Everyone, maybe is meant for kids, you know: hey kids, you know you like playing your fancy new fangled article games. Here’s one of the early article games that started the ball rolling all right.
Maybe it’s meant for old-timers, who haven’t played a article game in years, but finally remember playing tetris all right, the better that you can define your purpose and define your audience the better job you can do creating your website another example. Let’s say I was going to do a website about classical music. All right, I could go so many different directions. With that right, I could define a website.
I could create a website about classical music for the general public people. That really don’t necessarily know a lot about classical music. Maybe they played in the band in school, but they don’t really know a lot about it and have thought about it. Since a music appreciation class I had – or maybe I can develop it – for people who are fans of classical music who want to know about new releases and concerts in the area and so on and so forth.
Maybe I want to develop it for adults. Maybe I want to develop it for high school kids. Maybe I want to develop it for children, the more clear that I can describe what I want the better off i’m going to be, because then I can really target the needs of those particular groups. You know the first rule of any sort of communication is to know your audience all right. So it’s not enough to say this is a topic.
You focus on the topic that you’re going to have and you think about who the audience is going to be all right, so you can imagine a site about classical music. If my audience was musicians, let’s say it’s going to have a lot different stuff than if my site was for listeners right. My site was for musicians. I might have information or articles about where to get your musical instrument repaired if it’s broken, all right or advice on buying a used musical instrument or what are some local community groups that you can join if you want to play in an ensemble or something like That, if I was developing it for high school kids, maybe I include a page about what concert.
Etiquette is ok, because you know people at classical music concerts can get really fussy all right. You don’t walk in in the middle of a piece. You wait until the pieces over and then walk in after that. So if you’re late you stand outside for a few minutes till it’s done, you actually don’t applaud in the gaps. You wait until the entire piece is done so for peace has three parts: there might be a slight pause between the first and second part.
You don’t applaud there. I think it’s silly, but that’s the way. It is right. You should probably one applaud right. I mean come on. You know, but again that’s sort of the expectations that people have so maybe for younger people. That don’t know that you might have a page about that. Oh page, about what are the main instruments of the orchestra. Now, musicians going to know that right, they’ve been playing in an orchestra, since they were ten years old, probably but a high school kid or someone hasn’t been exposed to classical music might not have any idea what that is.
Maybe examples of different eras of classical music. Again, a musician might know that you know very well, but a lay person wouldn’t necessarily know that. So when you develop your strategy, you don’t just pick your topic, but you think a little bit about the audience that you’re going to be reaching now. This is where, when you identify your audience, really, you may have multiple audiences is going to visit your site depending on again how big or specialized the site is all right.
For example, we have a school, you know with learning community college who are some of the different audiences that could be visiting Elsie’s, page or different groups of people that would be visiting Elsie’s site right, graduating seniors from high school, so graduating high school students were thinking About where to go to next year, that’s one group of people and for me, the parents of graduating seniors, all right.
That’s another group people in the workforce that maybe they’re working at a job that they don’t really like, and they want to upgrade their skills. All right would another group be traits people that already in a trade or people that are looking to get in a trade yep, people are looking to get into a trade all right again, maybe they’re working in a job that they’re not really crazy about, and they Might look to see you know: are there classes on welding or welding programs, or you know, nursing or culinary or things like that, other groups of people, instructors, faculty and staff all right? We would go on that site to look for certain things when our meetings are when grades are due.
Don’t read anything into this because I love my job, but when is spring break his class kids is, you know, do we have a snow day today? You know all these things are things like faculty and staff might visit, and we can probably think of others to just off the top of my head community members right. You may not be interested in getting a degree in graduating from LC, but maybe you want to participate in some of the cultural events at LC.
Has you know, there’s all sorts of different performances at the stocker Center there’s also our non-credit classes, where you can come and take a class in this that or the other that isn’t necessarily like four degree. But you can pick up your skills. I know they have for people that have no computer skills. They have like non-credit classes just to like to teach people how to use the mouse and how to move around and stuff like that or they might have a class in photography.
You know that’s non-credit, it’s not a first semester, but maybe it meets four or five sessions and teaches you the basics of a topic, just a personal growth or whatever lifelong learning, um people that I want to use a fitness center. All right. Fitness centers a great facility and as a student I think you get to use it for free. You just have to go and sit through one of their our. What would you call it orientation sessions and then you can use that for free.
I mean great facility in there. The plane is. Is that, especially when you’re talking about bigger projects, there isn’t one group of people called the user? There are multiple groups of users alright, and you want to do your best to hit the most important needs of all those different user groups. Now there might be some overlapping right. Parents of a high school senior probably have some of the same goals as graduating.
Seniors people in the community that are looking to maybe change careers might have some of the same girls as people that are brand-new out of high school that are looking at starting their academic career, but there are going to be differences as well right, someone who is You know in their mid-30s might be interested G. Will the college courses that I took 15 years ago transfer, whereas a high school student probably doesn’t have that question alright? So the first of all communication is to know your audience on websites.
You don’t just have one audience and a mistake that a lot of web developers use is they talk about the user as though there’s one kind of user that’s visiting their site or in reality, there’s several different kinds. So what you do so you develop a high level description, you identify the audience groups and you create what are called personas now. This might sound hokey, but what you actually do is you make up a fictional person that represents a group of people.
James is an 18 year old, high school senior at Olivia hi, who is interested in what you know, who loves computers and wants to do wants to work with computers? Lisa is a 28 year old person who is working in retail, who does not want to work in retail anymore? Who wants to who is interested in healthcare careers? You actually make up fictional people and little back stories about them now. Why do you do that? Will you do that for a couple reasons you do that, first of all, to show that hey my website isn’t just appealing one group of people, but I have identified two different groups of people and then, when you’re going through and making decisions about what content.
That’s on the site and how to organize it. You try to look through those people’s eyes. What’s going to help James find information about computer careers, what’s going to help Lisa find information about health care, careers and so on and so forth. Alright, that’s what I mean by creating these user groups and identifying these user groups and creating personas, then. Finally, you come up with goals for these grooves.
Alright, you actually, I think I just said you have three goals for each for the user of prioritize list of three user goals and our that your project will address and three of your goals, in other words, three goals of the organization that you’re doing this. For all right, but really you could define goals for each of the personas. You know a high school kid. One of their goals might be to find out.
Does LC offer the program that I’m interested in all right go for a parent of a high school senior? Might be, how much is it going to cost what financial aid is available for students going to LC? What are the rules about financial aid? What do I need to do to make sure my student gets financial aid and so on? So that is the strategy section right up top. We don’t think about how the site is going to look or what colors were going to use or what fonts we’re going to use or anything like that.
We start at the goals of the user identifying who the users are identifying, what the goals are for the user and identifying the different users that are going to be visiting the site and again there could be goals for each user group different goals, goals for a Community member might be what are the non-credit classes available for someone with my interests, what culture events are going on at LC this weekend and so on.
Alright, this becomes very challenging when you’re dealing with large websites all right, because there’s so many different groups of people and they all have different goals, but for the kind of websites that you’re doing is going to be a little easier. For example, let’s talk about my classical music site. Let’s say I’ve narrowed it down and say that I want to do a classical music site for high school students.
All right. Welcome by three different user groups be among high school students visiting my classical music site. Those who play an instrument, those who want to play an instrument third, might be high school music teacher all right. So if you are offering the course in music, you know you could use this site as a resource, so it may be geared towards high school students, but another kind of visitor to it might be a high school teacher that is going to try to incorporate your Site into their plans, article games, you know if I did a article game on tetris who could the groups of users be people that have never played tetris people who have played tetris? Who the third group be that’s a good question, but i’m sure we could think of something people that play the original tetris but haven’t played it since then, alright, so no matter what your topic is, we want to be in this section.
We want to be very specific and narrow down the specific audience and narrow down our to not just one audience, but several different groups that compose our entire audience and when we want to identify what the girls are. The goal should be simple sentences, for example, or goal for people high school students that run a play. An instrument might be what instrument is right for me right. What instrument is right for me, you know, maybe they would involve having audio clips so it’d, be they could listen to them and say: oh, that one sounds pretty good or all that one doesn’t sound so good.
Alright, what you don’t want to do in your goals? Section is talk about general web design. You don’t want to say a goal of my sight is to have a clear navigation. Of course you want to clear navigation right. That’s not really a goal of why someone is visiting your site to go and see how good your navigation is. This is content-based, in other words, what content people are expecting to get out of your sight.
That’s what the goals represent. All right. We spent the longest time talking about this one. The next four parts of this actually go fairly quickly. The second one takes a little bit of time. The third fourth and fifth, one will breeze by so we should wrap this up on Tuesday of next week. Any questions at this point, if you have not already read through the documentation about the project and will finish up that part on Tuesday
If you manage to pick up on my accent in the last five words, I am indeed Australian and it’s honored to be followed up by Trey, my fellow Aussie, as well prior to joining this team. I’d worked on the beloved chrome dev tools, one of my smallest, but maybe my greatest contribution was adding the ability to rearrange tabs in dev tools, there’s probably the greatest five lines I’ve ever written.
I did work another five other features. So if you find me afterwards feel free to ask me about them, and I might share dev tools trickle to more recently, I’ve had the humbling experience of building web components at all and witnessing all the incredible components that all of you have built and published. For example, the one and only Pokemon selector and if you’re the person who says but there’s a Hanyu, only 151 pokemon in the original set well there’s even an option that lets you set that too, so all kudos to Sammy.
For this, it was, however, in the process of building web components at all, which brings us to what we’re here to talk about today. So, first I’m going to cover my story of how I came to encounter this SEO problem while building web components. Our dog will then look at how I used have less chrome to solve this before diving into all the details of how that actually works and how you can use it. So I’m going to take a step back for a moment and talk about what I learnt in the process of building web components.
A talk. The first thing I learned was how the platform supports encapsulation through the use of web components with this encapsulation comes with inherent code reuse, which leads to a specific architecture. I also learnt about progressive web apps and how they can provide us with fast engaging experiences. I learned how the platform provides api’s such as service workers, to help enable those experiences, as I learned how to compose web components, to build a progressive web.
App we’ve heard from Kevin yesterday about the purple pattern: push render precache lazy load as a method of optimizing delivery of this application to the user and one of the architectures which enables us to utilize. The purple panel is the app shell model. It provides us with instant, reliable performance by using an aggressively cached app shell. You can see that for all the requests which hit our server, we serve the entry point file which we serve regardless of the route.
The client then requests the app shell, which is similar, but because the same URL across the application, we can combine that with a serviceworker to achieve near-instant loading on repeated visits. The shell is then responsible for looking at the actual route that was requested and then request. The necessary resources to render that route. So this point I’d learned how to build a progressive web app using client-side technologies like web components in polymer and how to use patterns such as the purple pan to deliver this application quickly to the user.
Then there’s the elephant in the room SEO for some of these BOTS they’re, basically just running curl with that URL and stop right there, no rendering no JavaScript. So what are we left with with this PWA that we built using the app shell model? We’re left with just your entry point file, which has no information in it at all, and in fact it’s the same generic entry point file that you serve across your entire application.
So this is particularly problematic for web components, which require JavaScript to be executed for them to be useful. This issue applies to all search engine indexes that don’t render JavaScript, but it also applies to the plethora of link rendering BOTS out there. There’s a social BOTS like Facebook and to but don’t forget the enormous number of link renting BOTS such as slack hangouts Gmail, you name it.
So what is it about the app shell model that I’d really like to keep well? For me, this approach pushes our application complexity out to the client. You can see that the server has no understanding of routes. It just serves the entry point file and he has no real understanding of what the user is actually trying to achieve. This allows our server to be significantly decoupled from the front end application, since it now only needs to expose a simple API to read and manipulate data.
The client that we pushed out to the application that we pushed out to the client is then responsible for servicing. This data to the user and mediating user user interactions to manipulate this data, so I asked: can we keep this simple architecture that we know and we love and also solve this SEO use case with zero performance cost? So then we thought what, if we just use headless chrome to render on our behalf, so here’s a breakdown of how that would work.
We have our regular users who are making a request and they would like a cat picture because who wouldn’t and as part of this approach, we ask our robot and to answer this, we look at the user agent string and check if it’s an own bot that Doesn’t render in this case the user can render so we serve the page as we normally would. The server responds with the fetch cat picture function and then the client can go and execute that function to get the rendered result by the way.
This is one of my kittens, which I fostered recently, which is super adorable. Now, when we encounter a boss, we can look at a user agent string and determine that they don’t render, and instead of serving that fetch cat picture function, we fire for a quest to headless Chrome to render this page on our behalf, and then we send the Serialized rendered response back to the bar, so they can see the full contents of the page.
So I built a proof-of-concept of this approach for web components rock and it worked. I wrote a medium post about it, and people really interested in this approach and want to see more of it. So, based on this response, I eventually decided that instead of my hacky solution that I would build it properly but then came the most challenging part of any project and I know you’ve all experienced it as well naming.
So I asked on our team chat for some suggestions and I got a tongue, so these are some of our top ones. There’s some great ones in their power renders use the platform as a renderer. However, today I’m very pleased to introduce render Tron. Let me render that, for you. Brenda Tron is a doc arised, headless, chrome, rendering solution. So that’s a mouthful, so let’s break it down. First off what is docker and why did I use it? Well, no one knows what it means, but it’s provocative in all seriousness.
Docker containers allow you to create lightweight images and standalone executable packages which isolate software from its surrounding environment in render Tron. We have headless chrome packaged up in this container so that you can easily clone and deploy this to wherever you like. So what about headless chrome? It was introduced in chrome, 59 for Linux and Mac chrome 60 for Windows, and it allows chrome to be run in environments which don’t have a UI interface such as a server.
This means that you can now use Chrome as part of any any part of your tool chain. You can use it for automated testing. You can use it for measuring the performance of your application, generating PDFs amongst many other things. Headless chrome itself exposes a really basic JSON API for managing tabs with most of the power coming from the dev tools protocol. All of dev tools is built on top of this protocol.
So it’s a pretty powerful API, and one of the key reasons that headless chrome is great. Is that now we’re bringing the latest and greatest from chrome to ensure that all the latest web platform features are supported with render Truong? This means that net your SEO can now be a first-class environment which is no different, the rest of your users. So just a quick shout out. This all sounds really interesting to you and you would like to include headless chrome in some other way in your to a chain.
There’s a brand new library, node library that was published just last week, that exposes a high level API to control chrome, while also bundling all of chrome inside that node package. So you can check it out on github at google chrome, slash puppeteer, so we’ve looked at the high level of how headless chrome can fit into your application to fulfill your SEO needs now it’s time to dive to how it works.
But I’ve been talking a lot. So, who wants to see render tron in action alright. So this is the hacker news PWA created by some of my awesome colleagues and it’s built using polymer and web components. It loads really fast and all-round performs pretty well. We can see that there’s a separate network requests which loads the main content that we see and we can guess that it’s affected by this SEO problem, since it uses web components which require JavaScript and it pulls the in data asynchronously.
So one quick way to verify this is by disabling JavaScript and refreshing the page, and once we do that, we can see that we still get the app header, since that was in the initial request. But we lose the main content of the page which isn’t good. So we jump over to render Truong the headless chrome service that is meant to render and serialize this for you. So I wrote this UI as a quick way to put in a URL and test the output from render Tron so first off.
What are we hoping to see because these bots only perform one request? We want to see that whole page come back in that one network request. We also want to see that it doesn’t need any JavaScript to do this. So take a look, I’m going to put in the hacker news URL and tell render Tron to render and serialize this and that using web components, and it renders correctly I’m going to disable JavaScript and verify that it still works.
So you can see it’s still there and it all comes back in that single network requests render tron automatically detects. When your PWA has completed loading. It looks at the page load event and ensures that it has fired. But we know that’s a really poor indication of when the page is actually completed. Loading, so Rena Tron also ensures that any async work has been completed and it also looks at your network requests to make sure they’re finished as well.
In total, you have a ten-second rendering budget. This doesn’t mean that it waits 10 seconds, though it’ll finish as soon as your rendering is complete. If this is insufficient for you, you can also fire a custom event which signals to rent Ron that your PWA has completed. Loading serializing web components is tricky because of shadow Dom which it straps away part of the dom tree so to keep things simple.
Rennet ron uses shady Dom, which polyfills shadow Dom this allows render tron to effectively serialize the dom tree so that it can be preserved. In the output, so let’s take a look at the news PWA, which you’ve all seen – and it’s also built by some of my other colleagues and we’ll plug that in to render tron will then ask render tron to render this as well and that I’m also using Web components, and then we have it.
So what do you need to do to enable this behavior with polymer 1? This is super easy and render tron doesn’t actually need to do anything simply append D’Amico’s shady to the URLs that you pass to render Tron and polymer 1 will ensure that shady Dom is used with polymer 2 and with web web components. V1. It’s recommended you use web components, loader jeaious, which pulls in all the right polyfills on different browsers.
You then set a flag to render tron tell it that telling it that you’re using web components, and it will ensure that the necessary polyfills that it needs for serialization get enabled so another feature of render Tron is that it lets you set HTTP status codes, these Status codes are used by indexes as important signals, for example, if he comes across a 404, it’s not going to link to that page, because that will be a really poor search result.
Now server, though, it’s still returning that entry point bar with a status code of 200. Okay, so it looks like every URL exists. Rena-Chan lets you configure that status code from within your PW, a which understands when a page is invalid, simply add meta tags. Dynamically is fine to signal to render on what the status code should be render. Tron will then pick these up and return that status code to the bot, so this approach isn’t specific to polymer or even web components, let’s plug in Fahnestock google.
Com and sees what happens when we serialize it. So that looks pretty good. Who can guess what javascript library was used to build? Google fonts angular render Trond works with any and all client-side technologies that work in Chrome and whose Dom tree can be serialized. The render tron endpoint also features screenshot capabilities, so that you can check that headless, chrome and the load detecting function are performing as you expect.
Unfortunately, this service is not fast for each URL that we render we spin up headless Chrome to render that entire page, so performance is strictly tied to the performance of your PWA. Renat Ron does, however, implement a perfect cache. This means that if we have rendered the same page within a certain cache freshness threshold will serve the cached response instead of rear-ending it again. So how can you get your hands on this today and how do you use it? Well, first, you need to deploy the random tron service to an end.
You’ll need to clone the github repo at Google, Chrome, slash, magnetron, and it’s built primarily for Google cloud. So it’s easy to deploy there. But if you remember this is a darker container, so you can deploy this to anywhere, which supports a docker image. So to make things simple for you to test our. We have the demo service endpoint, which you can hit at render Tron appspot.Com and that’s the one with the UI that we saw earlier.
It is not intended to be used as a production endpoint. However, you are welcome to use it, but we make no guarantees on uptime. Having this as a ready to use service is something we might consider based on the interest receive. So, just in case you’re wondering my boss’s twitter handle is at met, Matt s McNulty, just in case. You want to tell him how awesome I am so once we have that endpoint up you’re going to need to install some middleware in your application to do the user agent splitting that I was talking about earlier.
So this middleware needs to look at the user agent figure out whether or not they can render and if not proxy, the requests through the render tron endpoint, if you’re using purple server, which is a node server designed to serve production applications using purple. You simply need to specify the bot proxy option and provide it with your rennet on endpoint, if you’re using Express, there’s a middleware that you can include directly by saying app, don’t use render on top make middleware with the proxy endpoint and whether or not you’re using Web components, if you’re not using either of these check the docs for a list of community maintained bit aware, there’s a firebase function there, as well as a list of existing middleware that render China is compatible with.
If it’s not listed, it’s also fairly simple to roll. Your own middleware by simply proxying based on the user agent string, and that’s it, that’s all the changes you need to make to use, render tron today and all these bots can now be happy. Brenda Tron is available to use today compatible with any client-side technologies, including both polymer 1 and polymer 2. Thank you.
Of course, you know it implicitly, and you know it really well and the people that are connecting with you are clearly interested in it or they wouldn’t be following you, but of course buying into a brand people are buying people.
So you don’t just want to be talking about your subject all the time, because that could become a bit monotonous and people really want to get to know who the person is behind the brand. So people want to know who you are. This is a great way of using blogs and article logs to get your creativity flowing so every now and again just chuck in something that is just getting your personality across, and it might be, for example, like miles, and I will take Bonnie for a walk over At the local park and we’ll think I know actually we could do a article on this.
You know we’ll be talking with so why don’t we do a article on that and we’ll just literally get our iPhone and start recording and you may have seen it already. You know throwing the frisbee for body in the background and you know, and that’s just you know, I think that when you are getting your communication across on a daily basis, you’re building friendships and you’re building rapport, so people want to see who you are behind the Brand and not just who you are on the face of the brand all the time so use your blogs and your article logs to be creative and have some fun with it.
So what other hobbies do you have? What are the things that you do outside of the business that you could talk about and actually build more rapport with your audience, because when they know who you are behind the brand you’ll find you have a lot more things in common with the people who are Following you, so that’s our final tip in the series you’ve had 10 top tips on making the most and building your brand using article and blogging.

Keeping in my engine is part of supply chain and increasingly localize heedlessness by the indian air force is poised to become a multispectral air force that force multipliers and space-based assets. Indian companies will need to develop abilities and capacities to meet demands. So what does it take to build an aircraft and arms industry, given the current threat environments and looking into the future talking specifically of the aerospace ecosystem? Factors like the supply and quality of Engineers, the supply and the depth of the supply chain and the potential to reach critical mass is important.
Infrastructure and government support are critical inputs for the success. India has most elements of equal system in place here of Technology over the next decades. India undoubtedly has the potential to become a significant part of the industry. Today, the technological capabilities to undertake complex manufacturing required further central, india and mineral growth in the sector. As a large number of private plans now have entered into the sector, in addition to the public sector, obviously have great advanced capabilities and continue to grow.
The SMEs has continue a certain little high capital costs, low bottoms and long dissipation, feeders or projects. However, they too have come to value changing. I could not agree more. The technology and technology that’s applicable to these platforms and onyx are going to be our success and the pockets of excellence actually with the SME. So the best way to develop the aerospace industry in the private sector would be access to technology from abroad, in collaboration with Indian industry continues to require relaxation of tax regimes.
Industry friendly important expert regimes support by way of funds for R & D and raising the cap on foreign direct investment, come accept that, as mentioned in the earlier sessions, I think the policies of this government have been excellent and policy framework has been in place for The three key elements that can end the growth of the system through the TPP, any predictability timetable, or order so and continuty in plans for procurement.
We cannot expect with an industry based on well order. Therefore, there is a need to create a long-term partnership with based on trust on the part of aliens, globalization and liberal edition have accorded means to the average manufacturing and service capabilities across various countries, creating a web of interdependence and partnerships across the global aerospace industry landscape. The trend in the aerospace industries towards building partnerships, globally infrastructure and network capabilities with India emerging as a center for engineering and design services for many of the OEMs major global aerospace companies are looking at the Indian market for outsourcing air spaces.
The way forward for engineers abyss firms is to develop strong competitiveness by offering good quality brothers. I don’t want my speech to sound like a sales pitch and therefore I’m just trying to give you some idea of some of the fundamental elements that are necessary. I think from a technology absorption perspective, regardless of who I am or regardless of the industry public around
Starting a business is not easy! Think about who will be working on your digital image. Hiring a good webmaster will help!
Notification list YouTube has not sitting all of my subscribers alerts.
So if you want to get this fresh content, ah hot off, the presses do that for live streams and articles, and if this is your first time here welcome, this is Glendon Cameron, you’re hustling Godfather. What we do here. We talk about money: how to make it. How to keep it, how to grow it through entrepreneurship, hustling! That’s what we talked about, so, let’s kind of get into it, because one of the big big problems that people seem to have with making money is a lack of clarity.
They want to make money that much they’re sure of, but how to make money. Mmm that come is vague, ambiguous, it’s not really nailed down. Now I want you to think about this. If you went to your job just kind of mindset, you don’t know what you want to do. You just want to make some money whatever way possible. However, what you can it’s not really going to work out because your job, you have a defined occupation.
You bility work, you do this. If you make fries you make fries. If you do this, you make tires, you make BMWs wherever you work, you have a clear path. Hopefully you have a clear path on how to make money with your job, all right. So how many of you are really clear on what you want to do to make money? Just put that in the comments? How many of you are clear and the mods beyond it, because I left a comment on the CNN post and it really angered the GOP trolls and this.
This is something to talk about this too, not getting political, but clarity is a very important part of being. President right now there are Americans who are losing their jobs because of his policies, because he has no clarity. Now, I’m going to make a prediction: 15, 20 months we’re going to have a very rough recession and most folks aren’t ready. Now, if you’re, really clear that recessions coming you’re going to your, your behavior is going to mirror your thought process and what I mean by that is you have people who are saying one thing but doing something completely different than what they said they wanted to do.
That is called incongruence if you’re incongruent. I want to make a lot of money, but I don’t really know how the money is just not coming every now and then someone will just do something and make a lot of money that is called an outlier. That’s called a unicorn, that’s called a typical, that’s not the norm and people be like well Johnny. You never went to school Johnny. You know he even wasn’t that smart.
He just came on YouTube and you know he started putting articles up there. Next thing. You know we got a G Wagen, but but the missing ingredients is johnny is a 10 johnny has rock-solid. Abs johnny is very handsome. Johnny is most women’s prototype man, but you know we going to talk about that you’re, going to like look at Johnny in the abstract and think you can do what he can do, even though you don’t have his gifts.
This is a lot of the stuff. You see on the Internet, you see many people who are doing stuff and it’s not going to work. So how does one get clear? First of all, one has to be honest with sty self. You have to be very, very honest with yourself. You have to be very clear with yourself. You have to be very, very OnPoint with yourself now part of the deal is there are many people who say that they want to be XY and Z, because it sounds good.
Give you an example when I started this YouTube thing, it was a lot of people, thought YouTube was wack. There was a lot of my friends who thought I was silly. There was a lot of people who didn’t think that this YouTube thing would work out to be anything now these same people they’re like hey, I always believed in you, man. I knew you could be a contender. I knew you could be a contender right and part of that problem.
Is people forget people romanticize things like the stuff with the GOP and cunt? This has happened before we had a racist president before he actually fired of federal workers and got rid of them because they were black. So you know this dis ain’t, nothing new, but to a generation of people who’ve, never experienced it. It’s very new and to a group of people who’ve, never experienced clarity. That’s very new! That’s very hard because when I will say is like let’s talk about disruptive mail for a second I’m putting some hot content on that, this is going to be very helpful.
So you may wan na go over and check that out. Let’s say you have a dude he’s an average dude and he just wants an average girl but socially he’ll put in the comments. Yeah man – I you know – I bang the 10 – he’s going to say that, but he really don’t want a 10. He just want a girl. That’s going to bake biscuits have sex with. On the you know, on the regular and just be peaceful, happy, that’s what most dudes want.
Now you got everybody talking about yeah man. She was bad. She was a ten. She was a 10 here’s. The problem with that during ten minute ins, Halle, Berry’s, a tenth. How many women look like Halle Berry? You know in her category where, wherever she goes, everyone’s like yes, she’s, bad, she’s, bad. You know if you’re, a true bonafide ten, you know anywhere in the world, and men are going to behave the same way.
If that behavior is not crazy or you ain’t attend once again, they need em in the alpha males same thing, you could you know a lot. Do sir, I had this conversation with a friend. He was somebody he’s an alpha male now I just is like oh you’re, not because if you’re an alpha male, you begin now for male results, but you’re not getting a female results, and I just left it alone, because I don’t feel like a fight, but many People are pretending to be something that they’re not to impress people who don’t matter and that diffuses clarity that that really messes up clarity.
Because if you are rock solid in your clarity, you going to get what you want. But when you’re confused you going to get what comes your way and what comes your way? May not be good for you. It may not be the best thing for you. This is one of the problems, because when I start this YouTube blog, I was very clear on what I wanted. I wonder why the book I wanted to sell the book. My goal was two thousand people at 65.
You know that was the goal I exceeded it, but I had a goal to begin with. I made many many many many many many many mistakes, many many mistakes. Many many mistakes – green funky cover there was so many mistakes, but because I was so clear on the outcome and it was clear on the methodology that I had to deploy to get that outcome. When I first won to be a writer, I was in the boarding house – and I was doing this thing called passionate Friday – didn’t really go anywhere because I didn’t have discipline and I was just you know, just riding it pretty much getting some trim.
So the second time I had a little bit more discipline, but I didn’t have a really good game plan. Then I stopped writing. Then I got in the store chunks in business and I wrote every day, but I wasn’t writing for the pleasure of writing. I was writing to make money. I wrote thousands and thousands the ads, so it wasn’t write fiction. I was but I was writing for eight years because you know I was like I didn’t write four years.
Actually I did. I wrote a lot of copy. A lot of post so I became I got in the habit of writing, which is why I was able to finish my first book because I had developed a discipline. I had developed a game, I developed the Ackermann, but on the publishing tip I was still whack. I was still very whack. I made so many mistakes, but because I was really clear on the process. I was really clear on the outcome I exceeded it.
You got to be clear about each and every step go back to disrupt email. When you approach a woman, many of you just like how is she pretty you don’t even know she wants. You need to have a plan already pretty prescribed a contrived plan of. If I meet X, Y & Z, woman, this is going to happen. This is the reason you should write your dream girl girl profile, because what it does this establishes clarity and all of a sudden, you start like.
Oh, I didn’t want this. I didn’t want this kind of chick. I didn’t want that kind of chick. I want this kind of chick and because she become very specific and very focused all of a sudden, these kinds of chicks start popping off in your life, but see here’s the thing they were already there. They were always there, but because you wasn’t clear, you didn’t know what you were looking for. You did not set standards, you just missed out.
This is for business. This is for family. This is for everything if you’re, like ego car shopping. Most of you are real clear on what you want. I want on red Honda. I wonder that this surprise you like boom boom boom boom. You put more effort into getting a card and you do getting a mate. You put more effort in getting a car than you do star in the business and you wonder why I does it go sideways, because there’s this cool that statistic: that 90 % of businesses fail, I’m going to parse that a little bit 90 % of businesses that Fail is started by people who are not clear.
The people who had experience in that field, the people who were clear on the outcome they had a nine percent success rate being clear, is going to set your income on fire now part of being clears you’re going to have to get rid of a lot of This doing stuff for other people with my family, I had to get rid of them. For me to be quote a good son, a good brother, a good family member. I was going to have to lower my ambition.
I was going to have to say and do things I didn’t disagree. I didn’t agree with. I just thought this is stupid, so I cut them loose, made more money than all of them put together, but they still hatin, because it took me a really long time to understand this. I got out when your tribe wants you to be in regardless, if being in is counterproductive, it’s unhealthy! They want you in in a minute that they see that you trying to climb out of the barrel that you’re trying to run off the flood station.
Don’t even tell on you at Glendon master Linda, he in the middle, the feel he heading for the fence master, yet fence master, he hopped the fence as he go. You want me to get the dogs to see. He’s not happy that I escaped he’s upset because he didn’t escape so he’s going to do every thing in his power to make sure that I get back on the plantation to be there right. Next to him see people have been programmed to be more proactive in destruction than building instead of him.
Like you, you you going to try to escape him on Thursday night yeah man, yeah, yeah, all right, so I’ll be look at no, no! No! No! No! He get that information he going to go, tell master cuz, he’s afraid to come off the plantation cuz. The plantation is all he knows. He don’t know anything about this new world. He don’t know anything about the graduation and levels of classes. He ain’t trying to you know, what’s a good example of this, anyone see Shawshank Redemption.
Remember that Brooks was here doing kind of prison, but because he had been institutionalized and many people have been institutionalized, he did not know how to respond to freedom. He didn’t know how to deal with this because he had been institutionalized in a negative dynamic that he could not divorce himself from, and many of you have that similar dynamic. For let’s say, let’s say you live in New York: you live in California, you live in Chicago Rhett’s high, but instead of saying, okay, I’m going to make a choice here, either I’m going to leave I’m going to buckle down and make the money to live.
How I want to here it’s a choice and many people. Instead of making those choices to leave or stay there, they complain and then they let you state and they gang up and it’s like hey. We need to reduce rent ain’t happening, rent ain’t going down unless it’s a recession, that’s the only way rents going down, so you got ta make the choice. You got to be real clear on what you want. If you want a million dollar business, you need to do the math then figure out how your skill sets can mirror or match up with a product or service to make that money most people star businesses, don’t do the math.
They don’t have any clue. This is like it did. They go out there and fail man. You ain’t going to start no business again that that’s just that’s some wacky stuff man. You know these people who starting businesses, are they getting help from government these immigrants yeah they getting loans, no interest loans. Me. I was out there by myself. I couldn’t make it. You know it’s just ain’t. It ain’t right for the average man, it’s just ain’t ready.
You know I have a term for that. It’s called loser speak if you’re speaking like that to yourself, you are a loser and you’re going to indoctrinate your children with that loser mindset cuz, I don’t care how poor you are. I don’t care how much you don’t have if you don’t change that mindset you’re going to give that to your kids and you’re, going to create this generation of the generation after generation of low expectations and poverty and low income people.
That’s going to be your inheritance for your children. Now there are some good parents out there who know they ignant and they lie. Look. I don’t want you to be like me, I’m going to send you over here to be with these people, so they can teach you better than I can, because I don’t have the skills. That’s a good parent, that’s a great parent. It doesn’t take a lot of money to be a great parent. It just take a lot of common sense.
You don’t have to be rich, but you can enrich your children by pushing them to do shit. You couldn’t do and a lot of people they. They only want their kids to be successful. They don’t want their children to be more successful. Then that’s the dysfunction that goes and a lot of families that, if you’re doing better than your parents, your parents may hate. Now, if you got a good parents, they’re going to be like, I am so proud of you up.
That’s my son, that’s my daughter and then you’ve got those hey the Gators, those hater hate machines. You ain’t going to be nothing! I wish. I never had you. You ain’t been nothing but misery and pain to me, you got people with parents like that and these people in the world of hurt and they walking in pain, and it makes it very hard for them to be clear because they’re trying to deal with. Why didn’t my mom? Why didn’t my dad want me? This is why you know, even with my jacked-up situation, I make it very clear that I would love to been her father in case she sees this one day and she’s feeling some kind of way.
She’ll know the truth, but there’s a lot of bad parents out there cuz they don’t want their kids to do better name because they weren’t clear, so they pass on this lack of clarity to their children. It’s amazing how this goes down. So, let’s get into how to get clear first, you got ta, be honest with yourself real. On its bluntly, honest second, you got to start taking massive action as soon as possible, nothing’s going to happen without massive action.
You can know you have a problem. You can start working on it, but without massive action, then it’s going to happen and we’re getting close to this recession. 15. 20 months. I think of a be honest. You need to start preparing like yesterday, because during this next recession, those who are prepared and going to get wealthier. This is, I think, it’s just a cycle. That’s set up. It’s like we’re going to milk it on the high side, we’re going to milk it on the low side.
These people are very clear what they want, they’re very clear of their objectives, they’re very clear on the outcome. They have no problems saying this is what I want. So the third thing you need to do is to write down what you want once again. The third thing you need to do is write down what you want, because this is a funny thing about writing down your goals. You’ll have your goal in your head.
Right and you’ll put it on paper and it’ll look wack and that’s good, because if you cannot fully articulate your goal and desires to yourself on paper, then your subconscious mind can’t kick in and take over. So by writing this all. This is very unclear and you write it and you rewrite it and you rewrite it and you rewrite it and you rewrite it it to become so clear that anyone can understand it.
It has to be clear and it has to be simple to you. So that’s what you have to do be honest with yourself. Take massive action and write down your desires and you know: go back and read the article script script your days, because if you get in the habit and once again you don’t have to be a writer – and you know that no one’s going to see this. But you get a lot of people, you don’t have to be Hemingway.
You just have to be able to write in an intelligent manner to program your subconscious mind, because if you write this every day, you start taking massive action and you’re very honest with yourself you’re, going to start to see that things that you want to manifest in Your life they’re just going to start popping up they’re going to start coming people going to start sending you money, people going like you know like man, I need a truck even like hey um.
I know this is strange, but my dad he’s got a truck. He just wants it gone. You know anyone who needs a truck. These things will start to happen to you, because you’ve programmed your subconscious mind to reach out and pull them to you. But long as you look there’s a part of the Manos spirita app. So we hate these low expectation having people these whiners these losers, the it’s just ridiculous. It’s just ridiculous! How bad these folks think life is when in life, because they’re unclear how they go about life.
That’s the bad part, but life ain’t! Bad! Oh, just wait! Just wait because I was having this car. I was posting stuff on the CNN post and I didn’t even collab them one by one because they were stupid and I just like. I see who’s going to be in the first culling based upon these low IQ responses, because any fool can leave a derogatory comment under a pen name under an avatar, and I saw some really jacked up avatar.
So I know that these people they’re not progressive people and they’re, just members of the echo chamber and I’m just laughing, because I really don’t like Trump, but some of his policies have benefited me like a mofo. If I make the same money I made last year, I’m getting the 14 % raise, that is significant people and get 14 % raises people getting 3 1 point 5 to 3 percent, 3 percent. Being very rare, 3 % over $ 1,000 is 300 ain’t.
A lot of money you might get like a $ 2,400 raise if you get 3 %, you get 1.5 % you get like Twitter and feed up, which is eaten up by inflation. It is Wow, so once again be honest with yourself. Take massive action. Write it down now, number four is going to be you’re going to have to visit, drive experience what you want, you will have to visit, drive and experience what you want now. Let’s say you want to live in California.
You need to go ahead and get yourself a plane ticket go to California on a vacation two or three days, and do that four or five times and see how it feels before. Just like I’m going to move California, I sold everything I’m going, then you get out there and you hate it. People do that stuff to Atlanta all the time they come here. Streets paid for gold. Unless you were coming here with a business and some money, it’s going to be hard for you player playing it’s going to be very, very hard, but you you have people out here who tend to romanticize things.
So you really want this thing to manifest in your life. You need to go visit it you need to touch it. You need to feel it. You need to taste it because that’s walking on faith. It’s like okay. I can’t do it now, but I can do it later. A lot of you too scared to even go. You know how many of y’all are like this. When I was a kid, I used to go look at stuff and I don’t have any money. I remember. I was in Hawaii and I looked at this million dollar property.
I just look I’m in the military. I just want to look at this house. I can’t afford it right now. Maybe the future they’re okay, they were cool with letting me walk around this little black kid from Alabama at Schofield, Barracks and they’re very nice to me cuz. It was honest, so you could just go ahead and like have one look at this house, go the Ferrari. Dealership, look! Here’s the deal. I don’t have the money I’m going to give the Ferrari some point in the future, and I just want to try bit more likely they’re going to let you drive it they’re going to let you drive it more likely.
You didn’t know it because the good salespeople never know they never know. When that person’s going to hit big and come back and remember and see when you’re down, you remember all the people that were nice to you cause they ain’t that many becomes very clear. There’s a lot of clarity with that. I can count on one hand the people who came to visit me in this boardinghouse we’re still friends today, one hand, so everybody wants people to be nice and down for them, but they never been nice and down for anybody.
It’s just funny once again has clarity, so one of the things that you have to do – and this is the fifth thing you need to meditate on what you want be honest, massive action write it down visit, it drive it taste it and number five meditate on It now here’s the the bad news, it probably ain’t going to happen quick. Sometimes it can happen quick, but I’m not even going to set you up for the okey doke.
It may be a year or two, but what you’re doing is reprogramming your mind, not to be negative. You’re reprogramming your mind for success, because once you become very clear on some stuff and like someone can wake you up in the middle of night, like hey, what are you doing? Well, I’m creating an online platform to teach millions of people how they become successful. Cuz see that’s the sixth thing you got to break it down to where it’s one sentence.
What are you doing break it down in one sentence? Clarity, maybe a paragraph. You know if it’s complex, but it needs to be some that you can spit out in. Like 10 seconds and that death is one of the issues here, because a lot of you’re just not clear because a lot of you are consuming hustler porn, a lot of you are addicted to hustler porn. I was going on Instagram and I saw Ray J and his wife. I didn’t know he was married and he’s on this plane right.
He and his family, his daughter, I’m just sitting there like paint that just don’t see one. You know how much it is to charter a plane. If you get turned a prop, those ones were propellers. It’s like four thousand dollars an hour just for one of those. You know like Taylor, Swift, she’s, taking a private jet here and there it’s 40. You know with her entourage. She could be like $ 150,000, but she’s going to go to this venue and make three four five: six million, so that’s easily absorbed, but just to get on a private plane just to go to California, because you flex him.
That’s the one of the fastest ways to go broke. If, even if you do have a lot of money, I was coming back and I thought you mean Dupree up the first class. He was a four or five seats ahead of me. I didn’t recognize him at first and then the stewardess she had to take back his louis vuitton case and stuff, and you know Jermaine has made a lot of money. He flying first-class, these charter flights.
I see a lot of people flexing like that and oh, if you, if you’re the learjet – and this is the one without the props – and this is one of the bigger ones with the long range a Learjet could be nine and fifty nine to thirteen thousand dollars Per operating hour, so if you relieve here and go to Europe and that’s ten hours hundred G’s right, there hundred G’s other people out of these planes that happen for a reason, is every time that plane is in the air.
It’s costing a lot of money but they’re making a lot of money because you know I know, grant Cardinals got a plane. But unless I get to the point where I’m speaking and doing all this stuff, it makes no sense for me to go get a plane. None, even if I have 50 million it still wouldn’t make any sense for me good point, if I have a hundred million still wouldn’t make sense still. Wouldn’t that make sense.
You know if I was to get a plane, because I like flying – and I got my pilot’s license. Okay, that’s different, but just to be flexing, I’m seeing some silly silly silly stuff on the Internet’s. So this is it that’s what you need to be clear and take those six steps. Read this article ten times, because each time you read it you’re going to get something even more from this article. Well, this livestream alright! So for those of you who are still here, go below and enroll in game 105 and the art of holding this is going to teach you how to secure and protect your person as a male, and it’s going to give you some manhood lessons.
Now, let’s be clear, because someone sent me something silly like $ 99 for both courses, mm-hmm be real, clear with y’all, see clear clarity; clarity, it’s 99 bucks for 20 months, because you’re going to get two collection of courses and not just one course and you’re going To need a lot of game stuff, you’re, not getting anywhere else, so just so, you know before you click that button. It’s going to be two platforms.
It’s going to be a lot of content. It’s going to be a lot of things to help you protect yourself against this unfair system because I’m living witness. You know I even deleted to comment because she was going in cuz. You know listen. You know I touched on this in the beginning, but there’s a lot of people who feel they you as a man, regardless of what a woman does you need to do the correct thing, even if she’s doing the incorrect thing.
I don’t believe in that I believe in holding these women accountable, which means bad things going to happen, because until more bad things happen, a lot of these women are just going to keep acting the fool, because the expectation is for you to be the steady, stable Man doing the right thing: well, they doing the wrong thing. I guarantee you. She thought that I was going to lay down and let her collect child support and not seize my kid and not be a guiding fire figure and not be a father and just send her a check oops because see.
I was real clear when that, before you even stepped in that courtroom, it’s like ain’t paying. I was 100 percent clear, and this is a good lesson for you, because when you get really clear on the outcome that you want, even if you don’t know how you’re going to achieve that outcome, your chances for success are about 95 %. If you stick it out, I didn’t know how it’s going to get that thing dismissed.
I just knew that I was putting my head. I got ta feel clear on that outcome. I learned the game so go below enroll, because this is going to be some that you can use for the rest of your life because they a lot of people, and these are the short-term people. These are the the hustler porn addicts they want to spend. Ninety nine bucks and make it two hundred thousand dollars. If you really know about business, you know if I had a course that you can make 200 grand a year, of course, would be legitimately worth 20 to 40 grand, maybe fifty legitimately so think about that.
But over time, there’s two G’s: you spend essentially what you up as a retainer for an attorney that will not get you what you want you could be set, and especially for you, young cats, who are not in these situations and one of the things you have To do is be proactive because many of you are trying to you’re closing the barn door after the horse has been gone for an hour like bingo, really doing good.
So that’s it all right! So go ahead! Go below get game 105. The art of holding next week, I’m going to be adding people because you’ll sign up through the game game 105 so that you’ll have all that stuff open to you and then next week, I’m going to add people to the art of Hold’em. All right! So y’all have a good evening read a little football relax chill out and I’ll see you guys tomorrow. What’s going on, this is a little different, but I thought I would explain to you guys what the new situation is.
It’s digital education: how to make money online! I’m finally getting around to teaching the things that I do or currently doing, and this is going to be hustlers kung-fu life skills isn’t going anywhere, I’m going to go through what’s happening with that tomorrow. But what I’m going to do is this is going to be my main focus, the rest of the year in 2020. What this is cuz you know, there’s so many people who talk about how to make money online and you’ll have an FBA course or you have a how to run ads course, but there is no comprehensive curriculum.
That’s going to answer all of your questions, I’m in a clique, foremost group, and I just look at all the questions that people are asking and just they just don’t have the comprehensive online education. So what I’m putting together – and this is from learning from this – this is B school for hustlers. Funny thing is, I created this about three years ago and I created a stripe account for it and the stripe account was still open.
So apparently they don’t have a problem with B school for hustlers. So in any case we could get around that. But let me take you through the whole process now this will include an updated version of the art of holding and I’m going to get into that. So you’ve got two ways to get in there. Sixteen hundred one and done and eighteen times 125 per month, so you’ve got two ways to get in here and this pricing is just going to be available while I’m beginning, because once I build out a course and the course is done, then I’m going to raise The price of this, because this is the there’s – not much they’re pricing with more to come, so one of the things that you know we’re going to do and let’s see really don’t want to be there.
Let’s do this: let’s go to B school for hustlers, like that. You like that you were the lion, the zebras, the money go, get that money, that’s the world! We live in alright; here it is so what we’re going to talk about is this is going to include nine courses. Once again, the courses are not done, as these courses come online like how the market and sell on YouTube. That will be a course, and you know it’s not 100 percent ready and how to make more money from broke-dick Danny to paper.
See that’s going to be a course. The strategic holding company had to set up and deploy there’s going to be a ton of information from the art of holding plus additional information going forward. The Google last course how to run successful and profitable ads how to create and sell online courses for funding profit. The hustlers mind set course, have a change: your thinking for abundance, I’m going to go deep there, how to make money with content, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
The money management course how to prep your financial life for happiness and joy and the money game how to play and win so what you’re going to be doing is getting cuz. I don’t really know how long it’s going to take me to build out all these courses, and you know, need to get rid of that because, because I’m already got I’m adding stuff here and I need to go ahead and change that, because I will have people Trying to get into this, but I’m going to teach you everything you need to know to set up a rugged, durable online business, because one of the things is like with these other courses and they’re good courses – they’re, not bad, but the thing is you’re not giving The full deal you’re not getting a comprehensive, so we’re going to do this, for because I’m going to add more to this to nothing that just get rid of that free.
But essentially this is going to be everything you need to start a successful online business or a collection of online businesses, because the Google ass course cuz. You know I don’t know how to do Facebook ads, but I know how to do Google ads. So I’m going to do a course on that. I know how to sell and create online courses. I’m going to do a course on that. I got the money, management thing and they’ll have that market that sell on YouTube.
Do a course on that: how to make money with content, I’m going to lay out some stuff that you know many people don’t understand, and this is just going to be fun. I could build this out and maybe three months I could build it out in six months, I’m giving myself six months to build this out. So you will have these courses, they will be done, they’ll be available. You will be able to use this information to make money pretty much if you’re, on a payment plan before you pay for this.
I want you to think about that because it’s going to be like an online school, you know and I’m thinking about adding some more stuff to it, and I will say this that if I add any more stuff to it before 2020, that also will be included In the pricing that I put out because there’s some stuff, I’m all because you know I’m thinking this is pretty much it. This is the things that I do. These are the things I know how to do these, the things I make money with and if I add anything else that will be part of this deal and once again the pricing is: there’s not much there.
The money management, how to prep your financial life and happiness and joy – that’s going to be done very quickly, and that’s going to be your first course and what’s going to be different about this, then Hustler’s kung-fu life skills is you’re going to do the money management Course first you’re going to do the hustlers mindset course. Second, then you’re going to do how to make more money from broke, big Danny to pay Percy third and then we’re going to get into the strategic holding company.
There will be a certain sequence that you will take these courses in when they make sense, because let’s take the money management course, what’s the use in you making money if you’re just going to blow a big willy style, if you’re just going to not properly do What you need to do you? It’s just you know, you’re, going to create more problems for yourself, you go out and you start making more money and you have bad money management habits.
You’re going to like maybe develop a drug dependency problem like the article I put on disruptive mail, you may be going out buying hookers and blow and think that’s a good idea where to put the money versus putting the money into long-term asset building processes. So that’s going to be the first course everyone’s going to take that and you get all of this and I will go ahead and stress as I build these out, I’m going to change the price of the offer right.
This pricing is, you, know, cuz, I’m pretty much going to do the hustlers at course. After the money management course, then we’re going to get how to make more money from broke. Dick paper see I’m pretty much going to go through those really quickly. Instead, Google Calendar. Okay, if you have iCloud outlook, office365 or outlooks change outlook on one way subscription on whatever, then you can, you can do that.
For me, I’m going to guess sync with the Google Calendar, and here we go okay, I’m going to sign up with better color file. Okay, we allow acuity to check these things and it is successfully authenticated with Google and me. Appointments will be instantly added to well. Canada, they want events from Google to block of time of your calendar check, enable blocking of activities in activity below when Tensei to also have events in google block of time on your activity.
Calendar okay. So what this means is that, if you have appointments in Google Calendar, then they will automatically block blocks of time in acuity. So if you have something in Google Calendar that doesn’t collide with, we can happen that, if you previously yeah okay so reminder about before appointments. Okay: okay: let’s go first things. We have a bunch of Viking discs. All the way from Finland huge shout out to Viking discs for sending us these discs to review. If you haven’t seen our first Viking discs review, make sure you check it out. We did a giveaway on five different discs.
One was the room which we do have, but it’s in a different plastic, so we’re excited to throw it in a different plastic. This particular review is for the barbarian. It is a stable fairway driver. In addition to these being review, articles they’re also giveaway articles. We are going to give away all four of these discs, so if you’re interested in winning a Viking disk make sure you stay tuned to the end of the review to find out how thanks for reading, and as always, please click like subscribe comment share this article With your friends and help promote disc golf in your area thanks, I thought mine was like.
Oh, this is a viking barbarian who is a 75202 stable fire way driver. It is at 173 to 175, and I love this thing I didn’t. I don’t think I ever threw it back in, but I flicked with it a couple times. It holds any line you put on it. It feels really good, just like the rest of it took a lot of beating abuse, and you know you don’t see nothing on this thing, so Viking guys so even while they got it going up with some good discs, great reviews today, barbarian barbarian.
It’s really really good. This really feels dependable, pretty much the same you’re, getting the same, throw out of every time. You can get some pretty good distance on it for a fairway driver. I would definitely better, no doubt definitely baby. I love this plastic. I love the way all the Viking discs feel, but this one definitely will go my bag. It’s my barbarian from Viking disks. It’s a great, stable driver.
It’s 173, very consistent plastic is awesome. Barbarian um, it’s good disc! I, like it’s very stable boy, it’s very stable. For me, I mean it’s 7-7 speed. It reminds me of an escape from dynamic. That’s the same to me, but great plastic, like we’ve, talked about in other discs, this disc, because maybe one little issue, but it’s a great disc. I love the way it feels even when wet so anyway. Here’s my review of the barbarian from Viking discs.
This is the storm plastic, it’s kind of like a champion style plastic. As you can see it’s transparent there. You can see through it very durable plastic, just like all the other plastics a little bit domi, but not too much it’s a good fairway. It’s got a lot of glad. I was able to get this thing out far some of my distance drivers – and I was really surprised by that. So a lot of glide on it it’s over stable.
I would compare it to maybe something like a VP crave or axiom crave or MVP vote. Just a good oversample fairway driver very versatile, disc, so great disc, from backings get yourself one. Okay, everybody! That’s it for the review. Once again, I want to give a huge thank you to Viking discs for sending us these discs. We can’t thank you enough for sending these to us. Sorry. It took us so long to get to these reviews, but the weather and our schedules have kept us from doing it.
So huge. Thank you to you for sending us all four of these discs. If you want to enter to win this barbarian, make sure you comment down below and number 1 through 100 and we’ll use random.Org to select the winner, make sure you, like the article and subscribe to us in the Viking disks youtube blog. As always, I want to ask that you, please click like subscribe comment share this article with your friends and help promote disc golf in your area, thanks for reading whatsoever. Make sure it’s not as over hey thanks for telling me. Why are you three Thanks barbarian? I wasn’t recording music, oh it’s my father, yeah barbarian. You feel like a barbarian earlier you through it like a barbarian nice like look at that good, nothing on it.
I’ve got the barbarian barbarian. I tell the guys throw this fair way further than I throw my MVP together. I’ll switch my entire bag to Viking disks. Oh my god, vanilla he’s my barbarian from Viking disks barbarian just it’s stable for me. I, like it it’s stable for me. That’s very unstable, unstable there’s, a booty there’s booty anyway, it’s very stable. I, like the biscuit, reminds me even an escape, but that I made disks but great disk from Vikings.
Get yourself one wait. I got to do that again. I said Vikings.
What are you eating? Check out the video below to find out about a healthy snack.
You later made in Stuttgart, that’s one and we as the Manheim university live. We live in mountain expanded by the DFG, determine Research Foundation, and we are now in the second funding phase in phase, so just that we are on the same level. Maybe, let’s start with some easy stuff research data? Well, that’s just some raw data. Imagine some numbers! You have measured. You have made some experiments and you measuring that, and that will be kind of in maybe an intermediate step in your research process and your then heading for the publication, where you do some nice analysis.
This would be the first possibility, but you can also kind of take research data from a data provider or from some a visit official statistics like four countries. There are a lot of data are available, also for other organization or stuff like that, or you can just take the research data from your colleague, given that he or she shares it with you or maybe has even published it. So if you’re using some other work.
Other scholarly works. Well then you have to cite it and the citation is just some more formal, structured reference to another soft gallery work. Data citation is then kind of this thing if the scullery were his research data. So let’s start maybe Ben. Does this data citation? Actually started, I have here a timeline, I think we have seen at least some of the date so more or less already and first question.
I would like to ask: when was the first structured data citation used in a publication? So I claim maybe around the year 2000, if you have any proof or more hints, just send it as we are interested kind of to find out, maybe a more accurate date next question. Well, when was the first unstructured reference to research data used in a publication, and here we say well that’s 1609 or before – and the proof just follows here – is one of the first unstructured data citations, it’s a paper or a book actually by Kepler.
So he’s the author and title well actually the whole stuff here above that’s the title: if you translate it into English, it says new astronomy based open courses or celestial physics treated by means of commentaries on the motions of the stars from the observations of two jabrai. So we see here he mentions this observation, his research data from teacher Bryce, so he cites that he does some data citation kind of.
How does he do that? Well, just by well a little bit above. Should it be from the observation of teacher Bryce? Oh that’s. Just the sentences here part of the title, which is the suggestion that these or the data citation kinda well, that was a long time ago, and actually now we have some data citations principles. So this are the eight data citation principles. First, one is well it’s just important, it’s actually as important as other citations, so you should too kind of the same thing as you’re doing for other citations, and you should make it easy or facilitates to give credit and attribution to the authors or to the contributors Of this research data, you should evidence, so you should do data citations whenever you’re using some research data.
You should cite them also as a citation, a unique identifications and global identifiers, for example, access. How can you access the research data, persistence and two more currently, there are hundred actually exactly one hundred institutional supporters. This means, if your institution want to become one hundred and first you have maybe to hurry up a little bit. There are some data, centers publishers and societies, also some library societies are around among them and some others supporters.
Well, that was the principal kind of house kind of in the practice. How does a data citation look? Well here? Is one format suggested by data site. It’s just kind of informant. You can use. You start with the creator than the publication year. In parentheses, column, title point version, point, publisher, point, resource type point identified, so not so seeing fancy in there. There is an example. You can maybe move around a little bit and another order publication year, maybe in the end or some other rules about the separation stuff like that, so that’s normal, seeing what citation styles actually are forcing you to do, and actually there are also some other well-known citation.
Styles, like API, who already has a data citation guidelines, included some other examples I have here also from the NLM or the Chicago Manual, have at least four databases. They are talking about internal some journals. Diocese wells are listed here, but actually in practice the people – they are still doing the same thing as 400 years ago, namely they are citing or references the research data in the text, just by mentioning some words.
So, for example, the first one is the caption oven table and somewhere there’s a reference to the research data. Second one is well, it just mentioned the igloo study and if you read a little bit around you see there should be some connection to reading literacy. Maybe not the first thing with men, you see you come to mind mind if you see igloo, and this third example also it can be scattered around in the text, as here with diverter years, are not in the same place and some other words in between.
Maybe so, how do you process this? How you can find now the research data? What would be the steps you need? Well, there are different steps you have to perform now. Actually, the first one we have just done, namely the detection of data citation in the running full text. Second, one is well, you have to resolve and normalize kind of the data citations. So, for example, the igloo that stands for the German internet, Sonali grown true lazy into zoo, ok and the this sir, that’s kind of the abbreviation for the socio-economic panel or also in German, the socio-economic panel, and you can even write that differently.
So there are different possibilities or variants here. Next thing is the unique identify the data citations. Actually, there was an igloo study in 2001. There was an other one in 2006 and there was one in 2011, which one was referenced in the paper before and last step kind of find actually now really decided research data, so you actually or after some URL or maybe then just the location and well.
This steps they are kind of annoying. You don’t want to spend a lot of time, and actually you don’t maybe not no time at all, just see it, maybe even in the beginning, that would be nice. So the question is here: is it possible that we can some of these steps out alive? Maybe some tools, some algorithm via work – can help us here and that’s exactly the goal or one of the goal for the info lace project automating these processing steps.
So this means automatically unraveling hidden references in the running text to research data into structured data citations with you our eyes, and this all should happen in a flexible, long-term, sustainable infrastructure. So here’s an overall view about the project. So, as always, we need some data, like the full text, metadata stuff, like that from research, data from publications and then our other ratings.
They can work on that they are relying on door. There are some data mining algorithms and they are using some bootstrapping strategies and some other stuff like there. We will not call will not speak much more about the algorithms, but focus on the technical architecture where they are actually in, and the technical architecture relies on linked open data and will provide some rest who AP is in between.
There is kind of some abstract, modeling stuff, some structures and antiques, which kind of connects. Also these algorithms and technical architecture – and you can get out things are out of it. So there is an integration. We are trying to integrate it in as much as possible, and maybe you see that here better, so as the end user. Well, you can, for example, search in a discovery system. Then you’re receiving some publication according to yours, wizard to your search and then it would be nice to see on what data, whether they’re this publication, relying on or if you go the other way.
If you’re searching in a data repository finding some research data, it would actually be nice to see which publication were built on top of this research data. So we need some in length linking stuff in between them. However, the users they are not only searching in discovery systems and data repository, but they are also searching in other stuff, which I should mention in a minute. First, this there is also an in question here: how actually two best incorporate data connections into library, catalog? That question comes from Horizon with court 1914 Library Edition, so you search or use the search also somewhere else, mainly, for example, in google scholar, or they can maybe search on the colonel website or wherever actually somewhere in the web.
They can make in search, and so actually it’s also a good question to ask here where and how is the integration of data citation for our users, users most useful, so we see here actually there’s a lot of stuff of different systems. We would like to cover in this integration and there who really need a really flexible infrastructure which allows us to do that and that’s the next. What we want to show you all right, so we’ve just seen that there are various agents involved or possibly involved with with the results of our of our project, and this is a like a 10,000 view, a view of our architecture.
We have an internal API which does all the heavy lifting, that’s all it takes extraction and so on that’s written in Java on, and it should be to be mostly self-contained servers. On the other hand, we have our public API that should be it’s flexible as possible. Should support as many different see realizations and data formats as possible and allow a data model to be as complex as needed, but still be really fast, so speed speed is of the essence for us and that’s why we relate on some some principles when we started Designing this this whole architecture.
The main thing should be that the API usability is more important than then expressivity of all parts of the model. So we want to support it at the at the right places, but in general the API should be easy to maintain easy to consume for for possible well developers, and it would be possible to understand the data model. So we try to postpone the making making the data model extremely complicated part to later and start with something simple.
Of course it should be restful ish. Also, not all the aspects of restful architecture are followed closely for Orthodox league, but still its protocol independent. So we can reproduce every everything on a local client without HTTP. That’s really important, because it has to be fast as we said, and we decided to use adjacent store versus a triple store, because it’s really fast. It has native water lists or arrays, which everyone who has developed the RDF software knows is a real pain with RDF, and it has a deterministic structure again, which RDF has not, and that makes it easy to use it for closed work validation, which is really important For us, so in general we started out with keeping it simple and that’s also understandable if we look at the main operations input in fullest at the moment.
There’s this bootstrapping part that we try to learn from a simple seat. Word new patterns to find data set references as Phillip show before and there’s the multiple levels of recursion involved and it’s an iterative process and it’s really tough on cpu and on ram. So here speed is much more important than expressivity. That’s for text extraction, so extracting text from PDF, well, which we do a lot and for applying patterns that we found using this bootstrapping process to to text files.
Again, these must be really fast and there shouldn’t be anything anytime. We lost with a civilization or or description or complicated data structure problems now for the data set resolution. That’s that’s the part about. If we have some string like it so ep, what does that refer? To which databases must we must be searched? How do we rank these? These results? How can we automate the intuition that people put into resolving these data set resolutions, and here the expressivity is much more important than speed, because we won perfect results.
So I I still think that the modeling has its married and it’s important for us. For example, data set granularity. So if someone refers to SOE p, does he mean the whole panel, the whole survey every every year or just a single year or that’s one aspect? Then there are data set references, data set references which cannot be automatically resolved without context like the people right as the results of our study shows – and we know we have to know who are those people and with what’s the context.
Where did we get this from or something like page 15 of the verb panel, which we don’t know what? It is because we can’t find it anywhere, but we still want to find one to a state that we found somewhere that someone references, something that’s called the door panel, also for for doing like a biometric analysis or graphing. The relationships of the entities in our in our data store. We also want to have the possibility to model this deeply and also for for mining the provenance of the things in our data store.
It would be really helpful to understand it as a set of statements. Instead of the set of documents, so the question is: how do we get the best of both this world of the modeling and of keeping it simple and to show your dad I’ll, just briefly explain or architecture? So we have an HTTP server which which handles the API calls, which has a rdf json-ld content negotiating middle mayor, and we have a MongoDB storage because that’s really easy to set up and easy to deploy and fast we’re using the Mongoose document with a and document Mapper to to make it a bit easier to to work in code and then we have mapping tool that will map between the mongoose imam and end and the incoming data.
So for once this handles are the f requests. It handles a request for our schema, but it also handles the RESTful API requests and exposes our data model in different in different civilizations and thought. That’s all controlled by something we call the teasing. And if you are asking yourself what this spidery thing in the middle is with the arrows to everything else, I will explain that now so T Sigma is our staff develop format it’s based on, but it’s just json-ld with a bit of a different syntax, more oriented Towards turtle, because that’s easier to read and easier to write, and in this we keep all all the different aspects we keep the descriptive part.
We keep the database schema part and also the presentation part. So these are the parts that describe the rdf semantics of our data model. We have a class execution with two properties block and algorithm, which I described in a context. So it’s we happily stole that from json-ld. Then we have the database schema part. So there’s a collection, execution and the property algorithm and they are the algorithm – may be required or should be indexed and so on and ask me this is just just an example.
This one shouldn’t be displayed in the API front end so yeah we’re mixing we’re mixing different levels, but we’re keep them all in one place which makes it really easy to to adapt and to to fix things. So one schema to rule them all. That’s our general idea from this one file. We generate our ontology, we generate our REST, API, endpoints and the documentation for them. We regenerate our database schema and the indexes that make this database fast and a date, a model explorer which allows us to to get a better understanding of how the syrups and now, let’s hope that it works the joy of live demos, alright.
So what we see here are the the aspects of our data model. I won’t dive into that. Much detail just want to say that execution is the most important thing because we are doing heavily algorithmic stuff here, but we also have links between entities, for example and patterns, and if I open one of these, I see that the context aspect is always the RTF Part and I can just open all the RDF descriptions right so so here that’s that’s now we’re on the on the RDF level, but we could also check out the database level and to see, for example, to find out by some some queries really.
So maybe some some field isn’t indexed and we can always jump into the real rdf description of some class, for example, here a search query described as a turtle in this case could also be. I find it always helpful to look at it in json-ld, because that’s really tours or anything else or I could even go crazy and look at some visualization right. So that’s the data model part. Let’s look at what we can do with that.
So I just showed that in the demo brook that’s nice right, so I jump right into it. We have our API exposed using the swagger interface or all the things rest addy, something something are generated from that file. We can do all the HTTP verbs that are relevant for s get post and so on, but what I want to show you is our simplified api calls to execute something, and what I want to execute is a short version of that learning algorithm I just copy It and paste it so just really quickly.
What i’m doing here is i’m executing this frequency based bootstrapping algorithm for all the files that were attacked with this particular tag, and I start with the seed elbows. So I know that Ibis is the data set reference and I want to find out what can be used from justice, information and a lot of files. So let’s try it out. Okay, things posted and I get a response, also in the location, header and now it has started an execution.
That’s running a synchronously on the server. I open that up and I get again the trip of you. So I could look at this, but we have a bit of a nicer interface, so we see the algorithm is at fifty percent. Just have to hit f5 a few times. Why did runs? I can just show you. These are all the the well the not insurance that you can configure for an algorithm and, let’s see if you finished yes, he finished right, so he has generated a lot of patterns.
Oops. All these patterns are, of course, the referenceable resources generated a lot of textual references, so these are the things like it’s open one and maybe in turtle. These are the extracted elements of the of the text, so Birds left off of the thing we found and so on, and the pattern stable pattern as well, which are just fancy friends. Just a fancy word for regular expression and everything can be tagged and that’s how we organize our stuff, because that proved to be really fast and simple.
And now that we’ve learned something: let’s apply this to a PDF file. So for that, we’ve written a small JavaScript library which is really thin. Just that’s what what I just showed you and I will choose a fire, choose two files and we’ll try to analyze them and what had happened? What happens now? Is he uploads those files to our store? He extracts the text from the PDF files and now he tries to apply patterns or patterns from a surgeon with a certain tag and that I just created to to those text, files and yeah.
There’s a there’s a kind of funny buck where it just jumps around. But let’s read it in the again the drip of you and jump into the mind of you. Where does the same thing, but he has already found a lot of patterns right and, and he has found some links, so let’s open one of those. We see this as a link. Again, these things are referenceable and the entities from which they link, into which tailing, in this case, from a publication and to a data set, are referenceable as well.
It’s just a little thing that they are not turned into links in this interface, but still it should be d referenceable, okay, and we see that it he has. He has found a reference from this publication, that’s referenced by this entity to something that’s called anomie elbows. Don’t worry no, but that’s the DOI of the theme, so we’ve gone the full way and yeah. So that’s that’s it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them get in touch with us.
If you have any data that you want to run through this yeah and try it out, it’s well, it’s kind of not that stable but or rapid in rapid development, depending on how you look at it. Thank you very much.
