Design Systems – The State of the Web

My guest is Adam Argyle he’s a developer advocate at Google and creator of the viz bug, design tool and today we’re talking about the state of design systems. Let’s get started Adam thanks for being here, so I want to ask you what purpose does design fulfill on a webpage? What are its goals? Mmm. That’s a good question at a high level. I feel like design, does a couple things we have.

You know it’s supposed to be guidance. You want to have credibility, so that’s like the better designed it is the more credible it feels right. You don’t want to spend money somewhere where it looks like there’s no design, even though that might not accurately reflect the product or what you’re investing in. But I like thinking about at a very, very high level. What design is doing is we have affirmative design and we have critical design and critical design.

It’s the type of design that is exploratory. It sort of provokes you Brutalism as a good example of critical design where you’re looking at something is like wow. This is like stark and shocking, even though it’s sort of retro in a way so there’s design, can do really interesting things to your psyche. In terms of like challenging you and or we can see more of this affirmative design, which is kind of getting more popular, it’s safer, where you’re sort of piling on to the social norms of like what’s going on in design because it’s safe and it’s familiar and So folks will visit your site and they might feel old into an action because they visit it and it’s beautiful and airy and they might be looking at something terribly, not attractive, like let’s say a scrubber.

For you know your sink. You can make a scrubber and a sink look very nice, so you visit the site and says: do you have problems with your sink feeling? Dirty and nasty. We’ve got the scrubber for you, so it’s like every design States the problem, and that brings in the solution and that’s sort of lulling you into this behavior there like eyes and this familiar you’re here it looks like a normal ad.

It has the normal flow. Let me guide you down this path and we’ll take you through this excellent experience. So design does both those things that’s really high-level, to does a whole bunch other stuff too, but yeah, I think that’s sort of what it’s trying to do is credibility flow. You know somebody else has done the work to organize it for me, so it’s supposed to be easy, I’m supposed to be here to consume quickly and get a task done, guiding the user towards the solution for that weapon yeah, and in that case it’s usually the Solution that the webpage wants you to go down, which is where you know, design, has a little bit of cunning in there.

Some people say design is a type of trickery as well, which right we have like dark patterns that are like legit trickery, or we have light patterns, which are it’s trickery or we’re just sort of like? No. This is just a healthy guidance. You can you could diverge it’s okay, yeah, so in terms of the tools that designers have what is a design system and what are its goals ooh, so a design system, that’s sort of it’s a hard one to nail down.

It’s gone through all these phases. Ah, my current opinion on what a design system is is where we previously had design deliverables that were sort of like a design system, and then we had engineering deliverables that were kind of like a design system. Well, we have with a design system, it’s a merging of the two where designers have their symbols and their files that generally represent the same components that engineers are making and there’s like this coming together moment and a design system.

That’s what I think we’re currently personifying that as we’re before engineering had like a pattern, library or component set, and then the designers had a style guide. So what are some of the principles of a good design system? Ah, yes, okay! So, at a high level, I think a design system intends to make future us have easier decisions like in the future. I shouldn’t have to invent a new button. I shouldn’t have to invent a new login form like these.

Things should be solved already, so at a high level. That’s one of its most. You know valuable propositions. Is that future you, or even, if you’re, being really consider it like other customers of your design system, customers being maybe other development teams or the designers? Maybe even like the marketing team? You have people that want to use that those are. I call them your customers. So a good design system is considerate of them and it empowers them.

But I like a low level when you’re implementing a design system, you should have things like reusability extendibility. You should have accessibility built in. Essentially, these LEGO pieces should have solved a bunch of problems for other people already and and be battle tested and have gone through. You know: ok, I’m gesturing right now, but the gesture is imagine a rock that I’m tumbling into a pearl like we’ll take and then we’ll have a bunch of pearls to give so that other people can and get their tests done easier and also there’s some something About that, where you need interactivity as part of your design system right, I have seen some design systems that don’t just talk about the component.

They give you levers to pull so you can visit a page and there’s some tools out there that do this. Like a story book is one we have other tools coming like frame racks, so there’s like design tools that are coming out very either very focused on this one particular use case, or you have ones that are a little bit more documentation focused so they’re less like Compose and build and more like no tinker and play and assess what component you need beforehand, and I like that tangible learning it.

It’s really nice, especially for someone visual like a designer to come into a design system website and peruse and find a component and be curious and play. It helps get really sticky the features and the capabilities of that in terms of the life cycle of a design system. Is it ever really done or is it more iterative? No, I think they really only grow. I have seen them be reborn or we, you know, we’ve seen them bring reborn with brands or they’re reborn as complete redesigns, but no, I don’t think they’re done.

I think they’re growing. I think we’re making teams now to facilitate these things, because they are so difficult and they only grow in complexity because well, there’s considerations that are often lost like mobile. You know. A lot of design systems are like a look at our sweet, desktop design system and they’re like cool what to do on mobile. We’re like we’ll get there same with like accessibility and layouts and there’s like a few other things that I think some design systems can do to grow and be even better, and I think that’s just what we’re discovering right now, like folks, are playing and they’re trying To figure out what aspects of the design system are really meaningful on? What’s crufty and you know for young industry we’re all still learning kind of like what this means.

Do you have any examples of older design systems that we draw inspiration from today? Whoo, yes, okay, whoo, okay, so old design systems. I have a bunch of them that I’m a big fan of we could go back in terms of like inspiration and things that are influencing what we’re doing today and go back to print and be like print. You made beautiful style, guides or brand guidelines. You would give Legos to a client and that client could go put them on an envelope.

They could put them on some stationery, so that was a very early set of like Lego deliverables that had some rules and some intentions. Then you have operating systems that feel very much like design systems as well right. The first iPhone had a design system for sure they even had a document, the hIgG right, the human interface guidelines. I would like to see more Design Systems have a hIgG. Are we super cool all right, and then we had Android with Halo.

These are inspirations to me, Android with Halo, and remember that one dark and glowy everything looked like it had like lightning, bolts or like neon around it. Actually, you know what it looked like that was looked like that Batman movie was. I was like a UI based on that was kind of cool. It’s right. We had platforms, we had web kits, oh yeah, so this is like material bootstrap, html5, boilerplate, jQuery, Mobile yeah, those were and what they call those right, those weren’t design systems.

They were component. Libraries at UI framework, UI framework, yeah pattern. Libraries, they had all these interesting names. I think we also take inspiration from fashion. We have this kind of goal right now. I have this metaphor. I like to think about a design system. It’s like you’re trying to make a capsule wardrobe. That’s everyone else in the company should want to wear right. You’re like okay, I’m the designer.

We need to make uniform, looking things across our site and they should be familiar and an elegant, blah blah blah. So what they do is they go make this this design system? That’s essentially like making a set of a wardrobe like you can’t screw this up. Just walk in the closet. Grab a shirt grab, some pants grab. Some shoes grab a hat. Who cares? It all goes together and that’s a that’s a term from well.

I learned it from Pinterest. I don’t know where else it came from though, but the capsule wardrobe idea is this yeah grab and go wardrobe and we’re trying to make a grab-and-go design system. I’m going to hoppy and grab a couple things make a new layout, be on my way, so fashion, I think, is influencing us in that way too. They want to be very minimal. Alright, it’s almost like Marie Kondo, your your wardrobe like go in and pull all the stuff that doesn’t fit in the capsule.

Make it reduced set like reduce your anxiety by you, know, reducing your options, but I have a question about that like when you limit your wardrobe or you limit like your UI elements. Is it true that you can have one size fits all UI elements or sometimes you need to reach out and use something new and different, whoo right cuz, you don’t want to wear my clothes. Do you know yeah you should like dude, your wardrobe is well.

It looks like your wardrobe right like what, if I want to have my own looking clothes, and this is where it comes down to like well, and I have two opinions here. One is, I don’t think designers want to wear other people’s clothes. So it’s to me it’s a little interesting that we’re trying to unite. I think the goal is super right, like that. We do need to make reusable Legos that are extendable and and are helpful for future problems, but at the same time, the more you try to abstract and reduce these like very subjective visual emotional things into like little units.

They start to feel very functional. They lose some of that that excitement that creativity and I think people want to start breaking out of your design system at that point they feel trapped. So there’s like a there’s, a there’s, a struggle here with design systems, which is we want to empower everybody, but we want to not be trapped. We want to be able to pick clothes every day that are really easy for us, but then we want to be able to go out to a fancy dinner and not look like we’re dressing from our capsule wardrobe and especially if you have customers, customers want to Have unique aspects of the site, and so naturally they’re always pushing on the design system to extend even more.

This is a good shout out to to material and Google material. The new version looked at what their customers were, doing, which the customers for materials tons right. People all over the world using it from dashboards to mobile apps, and in that case they looked at how people were using it and people were constantly customizing it right. They didn’t want material, vanilla. They wanted material with my Flair, whatever that Flair was like right, like I want crunch material, so oblong it doesn’t exist, but maybe I should make it no, but yeah that they looked at their customers and they empowered them to customize, in an extent material as a Base, I thought that was really observant and it was like research-based it’s just a very, very nice plan for the next version of a design system to lean so heavy into customization and enablement of people to fork.

It’s almost like they’re letting people fork to to manage their own and they can still pull updates in that’s a really great segue into my next question, which is there was a comment on our previous article in March, the state of CSS, with you know, Kravitz our Guests and this commenter is cool twisted TV says the problem. Seeing lately is that most websites now look the same. It’s like they all have this standard template or something, unlike back in the day when flash was a thing, people used to create out of bounds designs along with tons of nice animations, but nowadays everything is flat.

All gridded up the same way with a few minor positioning tweaks here and there I miss those kinds of designs that today we rarely now see all because everyone is now into this flat and blocky design. Look slap a few fonts on a page and add a few pics and color on the background and you’re done: that’s 2019 for you. What do you think about that? You know we’re. Can an agency even working at startups? We couldn’t take a lot of risks and we were moving so fast.

The only thing to do was affirmative design. I think what this question is kind of poking at is affirmative versus critical design and they’re upset that everybody’s gone affirmative they’re, like ah you’re, just piling on to the currently socially acceptable design patterns and strategies. That’s so lame, which I agree, because I built a lot of flash websites and yeah. You could land on one of my experiences and it was like you’re in a fishbowl right.

It’s like fishing yeah. You could hover over the treasure chest and would pop open and bubbles would come out. It was way more critical, design way more like experimentation and in creativity was like. You were unfettered, but at the same time, if we think back at that because there’s, I think, a lot of joy and and fun that was there, it was less serious and it wasn’t really achieving inclusive design as well.

I think one of the reasons folks other than you know you know being safe – is that flat and and choosing some these modern strategies. They really make accessibility easier because you’re not going critically, you don’t have to go undo something to be inclusive, so I think inclusive design, which is a really impressive and great push that we’re doing right now. It’s also kind of inhibiting some of our exploration because we want to be able to reach as many people as possible and affirmative design is lolling right.

You visit it you’re like all right. Well, I don’t really have to stress, while I’m here or do very much deep, diving, there’s the navigation menu, there’s my primary reaction, but if I scroll down nope, there’s three little things that tell me about the feature this: the other features of this product. Oh Harry Roberts, today, Harry Roberts today writes this thing, which basically is like recoating.

This person yeah, I have a quote here flat design in the rise of more and more digital products, does seem to have killed off a lot of that exuberance and experimentation, which is a huge shame. I missed the days of seeing what adventurous and out-there things people were trying to create. You would log in every day just to see what crazy stuff people built, whether it was flash or web. I feel that I think, there’s a there’s another tweet.

I can never remember that guy’s name, I think it’s John gold huh. I remembered someone’s name. Wow we’ll have it. I know your name, yeah, Rick Vesco me mm-hmm screen name. This tweet, though, had two images up and it was like which site? Are you building the one on the left? Are the one on the right and they’re pretty much identical? They they’re like big there’s an app bar at the top there’s, a big header image with big diner was text in it.

That’s like there’s a problem and then underneath that it’s like what’s a solution right and they’re, both there and they’re the same they’re like the practically the bootstrap templates that you could get for free they’re, practically the the theme for every WordPress site is now looks like This and the coolest and most creative and critical ones might have a article playing right. What text overtop like put some extra effort into that one that pictures animated? Do you consider bootstrap to be a design system? I do.

I don’t think they do well, and maybe this comes down to where I’m I’m curious about what a design system is and how it’s different than a pattern. Library. I think I think it’s that designers were more involved in a design system, whereas, like bootstrap is very developer, led, I think design kind of came in a little bit later after their Legos got really popular and so yeah. I think I think their design system that just kind of got there in a different way and the result, the thing that they have the tangible thing I can go pick up off the shelf and just like place in my tool belt right.

I’m I’m Wayne right now from Wayne’s World, so I just got my like from the back of the car. If anyone remembers the Shockers anyway, whatever that’s bootstrap right now, I could go get that off the shelf and be immediately useful with it and solve my future problems. It’s like the same value, props that I got and and we’re sharing about a design system. You could get them from bootstrap, but it doesn’t call itself a design system.

I can’t remember what their home page says. I think they’re one so, according to the HTTP archive bootstrap, is used, unlike one out of every four websites, at least in some fashion, which is a surprising stat who knows to y’all, but could that contribute to this feeling that websites are all looking the same? If 25 % of the web is using bootstrap with the same type of layout, is it possible that bootstrap is a victim of its own success in a way whoo? I, like that phrase victim of its own success, yeah.

Yes, I I think they are this. This is funny. This reminds me of two two metaphors I don’t want to share like bootstrap is funny it like. If you think back to high school, there was probably a super cool band that their album just came out and you really little dead band, so cool and you listen to him a ton. They made a second album with Chapter four made, a second album when you’re like this Bay, it’s still cool or bootstrap three, and then it gets really popular and everyone’s.

Listening to him. It’s like some fool who you don’t like, shows up wearing the band shirt and you’re like okay. That’s it done with this print and you start calling them a sellout and the reality is just like they’re now popular they’re, not making money they’re successful. You should be happy for them, but instead you’re turning your nose up and like this, like defensive, disgust like I don’t want to use it anymore, even though all the stuff you’ve built with it was great all the music and moments you had with that band.

We’re really nice, but it’s hard for anything to stay in fashion for too long, that’s kind of like the second metaphors, like the Wardrobe, we all had favorite stores we shopped at back in the day whether it was zoomies or gap or whatever right, and these were Like places, we went to go, make easy decisions that helped us get on with our day and that we were still picking something like relatively cool and meaningful, but then it just gets old we’re kind of rude as humans.

You know we we we burned through stuff. All the time we consume it and we’re like this is so good and then we throw it in the trash. So I think bootstrap is a victim of its own success, but it’s also very much still a success. I think being successful is hard. I mean look at any big framework of like whether it’s a JavaScript framework or big design tool. As soon as you hit the big shots and like you’re the cool one, everyone wants to take you down and that’s that’s a hard life to be in so bootstrap.

Stick it out, I think it’s still a great product. It’s obviously just reaching a different market. Almost like the pop band right, the pop band Green Day right loves their first couple. Albums third one came out, didn’t want to play that band anymore, but they reached a whole new set of people, and those folks fell in love with them. In a way that I didn’t – and I shouldn’t say that Green Day is bad.

I should say that Green Day is successful and they’re reaching new people and I still like their dewy, so you’ve spent a year as a UX engineer at the Google cloud team, as designed systems engineer so to speak yeah. What was your experience on that team? Yeah? That was really I was oh, so illuminating, so yeah I was a my title was really long ready for this. I was a UX engineer on the design systems team of GCP through a design lens, so they have two different types of UX engineers.

There’s UX engineer, engineer and then there’s UX engineer design, so I was in the design side. I was in a team of four or five other UX engineers who were supporting the design system, which had a big team, and I this was really cool to see how much commitment Google had to their design system. In so much that this team was made up. Of three teams there was a trifecta. It’s like a triforce of folks were managing that design system.

That design system is creating jobs, and it was really interesting to see how all of them were working together. What problems they were solving. There’s two things. I want to point out the first one I think is really interesting in meta, which is Google here I’ll just start with the first one it was built on angular, so is angular, which was transitioning from material one to Google, material and angular was doing a good Job at this work, the the struggles that they had were with how many customers that they had.

So this is where I like this meta comparison. You have Google clouds and their design system, which they call their design system, a condensed version of material. So it’s like a child seam. It’s like they forked Google material and made an enterprise, condensed version, that’s not as airy and fluffy. That’s interesting, because that means Google Cloud is a customer of another design system. Simultaneously, they have hundreds of customers, so they’ve got customers that are internal right, App Engine there’s like various products and each one of those products has a team.

Each one of those teams are consumers of this design system. That’s crazy! Then you have third-party players. People don’t want to add plugins or other support and other features into GCP that also want to use your design system. So they had this really really unique scenario where they were simultaneously a customer of a design system and a producer of a design system. Anyway, yeah. It’s meta I liked it and they were really adamant and very good at listening to all of these different customers and trying to make this thing work for everybody.

But it’s a very difficult task. They’re hiring they have tons of headcount, because this is GCP is humongous and they need help that and the UX teams they are really fun and really cool. So, if anyone’s looking for roles GCP in seattle, we’ll put a link in the description yeah sure so you mentioned something earlier. I want to come back to inclusive design. What is that, and what is the purpose of it? Oh man, this is so inclusive design.

We want this is so funny. It has a name, because I feel like it’s the thing that everybody’s wanted the whole time. We want our content to be accessible for as many people as possible right like. Why did we have to put a label on that? And I think the label is there and what it means is you need to have a site, that’s accessible, which really means you just need to test. First testing your site for accessibility is always this awesome.

Empathy experience where you’re like. Oh no, my sites, probably fine on that. Then you go tap through you’re like it works. It’s not elegant and that’s sort of like inclusive design, is like taking that extra step to empathize research. Ask folks and adjust your design to be more inclusive. So this can come down to things, like contrast, ratios font weights than this tab flows and stuff, like that, so looking ahead, what do you see the role of components and future Design Systems? I think we’re only going to get more complex as things go on we’re noticing now that our components aren’t good yet still, especially once you get to inclusive design areas where you thought you were done, and then you go test and you’re like.

Oh we’re not done. Sometimes those can shake the whole foundation of your application, and I think it’s healthy, though, that people are investigating that other future things. I would love to see you know voice. We have so much voice interaction coming in. Why don’t? We have a design system for a voice. I think that I’d be really interesting green lines. I would like to see design systems providing green lines.

Green lines are an accessibility indicator, so we’re a red line. Is you just saying I intend for this avatar to be 45 pixels wide and 45 pixels tall with a border radius of 50 percent? So it’s a circle like you’re. It’s a traditional way of marking up a document to encourage or or be precise, about, the presentation that you want. Accessibility is a similar, similar push. We’re like I’m going to go in here and I’m going to look at this little form input.

I’m going to look at this form button I’m going to go and indicate that these three areas should be tab. Indexed this way and it’s sort of a designer taking control of the accessibility, experience and saying, and I’m just being very deliberate and clear about what it is. They expect this to do and yeah it’s nice. It’s the designers making those decisions, as opposed to leaning on front-end, to do it and how about mobile mobile is usually forgotten.

All right, so we’ve got components or it’s funny. Material most of the opposite material is mobile first and then you sort of have to expand on a couple things to get desktop to work most Design Systems. I see these days our desktop focused and then they they start to squish things down as things go. So I’d love to see mobile, included, more components, yeah good call. How do you see the relationship between designer and developer evolving? I want to see them communicating a lot more.

John Maeda recently had a very provocative titled article, but ultimately, what he was pushing for is a switch and strategy where traditionally he was a proponent of design LED. He was like yeah. The designer should be at the top of the company, maybe even like making all the decision it’s like. If you do that, then elegance is sure to be achieved and that’s successful in a lot of ways. But what he’s seeing now after a few years of this is that engineering is really really important to engineering is required in order for elegant design to even be achieved.

So what he’s saying is no designer, I’m probably going to you, know, butcher this title, but no designer will be more successful than another designer unless they’re integrating themselves richly with engineering. The pitch is the designer isn’t necessarily the leader of the show anymore. He kind of says you should be a supporting actor or actress, and even though that might be a little hurt, some hurt some hurting to your ego.

You can still go see a movie where the supporting actor actress was the star of the show. There’s just a relationship that needs to happen here. That’s just richer and deeper integration. Designers needs to be included more across the the wide array of design decisions that are getting made and a lot of those design decisions are made in code, so designers get in there meet those folks sit with them every day and try to have rich conversations about The engineering side of things and getting greens they’ll ask you and they’ll want your opinion.

I think I felt like engineers make a lot of decisions today that they’d rather not make, and it’s just because no one is there to do the decision-making for them or to tell them what it is. So they kind of have to make it up as they go, which puts the front-end engineer into an interesting predicament. Wait. I just thought of something else. This one is this one’s huge for me. Okay, so we have in the front end, especially the dependency graph is getting really popular and we have back-end dependency graphs.

We have CIA CD dependency graphs, there’s no designer dependency graph. So what I want to see is like two really weird things. First off, I want to see design files pub/sub, where I want a design file to publish the colors and publish spacing units and like some of these, like really atomic units like think of tail wind tail. Wind is this: for I’m anali reduced design system, they have a file and I love it because it’s almost like, if you were to did you see the movie perfume the story of a murderer? No, I was a creepy movie, but he did something interesting which he was trying to distill the essence of beauty into like a thing that he could hold.

I feel like tale when did that they took a design system and they looked at all the different pieces and they started just like organizing and and plucking them and putting them into a nice list, and I, like that JSON object. I think it’s not JSON. Actually, it’s JavaScript, which is another cool feature of tooling anyway. It’s JavaScript file that is the most reduced design system into like atomic units that I’ve ever seen, and what I want to see is.

I want to see design files publishing something like that for a front-end to consume, and then I want to front-end to publish data models and other things for the design file to consume. I want to see a bi-directional communication happening between design, apps and front-end development that I want designers in that dependency graph publishing values. This is like why I want them in CI CD, like I want designers reviewing PRS, I want them creating PRS.

I imagine this like you’re in your design file. You changed a base color because it didn’t pass a contrast ratio. You know over here and some other tests, so you push and you save a change. You publish the change, which creates a PR that other people can go review designers, making PRS bypass the developer, bypassed the developer. I think it’s a decision the designers were already making. It just was like this long-winded feedback loop to get that work in they’re like I’ve got other crazy ideas too, or I think your design system should be a dependency graph.

Work clearly articulates what dependencies it has and what dependencies it creates for other things to consume. I’d like to see designers making kubernetes Canary deployments, I don’t even like to see I pitched GCP on this. I think there needs to be a design, focused cloud integration so that you’ve got. You know really rich cloud dev tooling, but we don’t have rich cloud design. Tooling, like their little design tabs over there, that a designer can go in create an a/b test which essentially makes a canary kubernetes container that gets deployed to five percent of the users.

Now designers can be in control of features of the front-end through some epic and really cool cloud integrations yeah. I want designers, I well here’s a challenge. I don’t know how to get designers into the backend dependency graph. I like pretty clear ideas on how to get the front-end and how to get them in CICE, but I’d love it if, like service designers, were included in API design and somehow there was again a pub/sub mechanism between these two or like the API team is publishing Something and the service design team is publishing something there’s just so much so much opportunity in this space for designers to get more richly integrated into the processes that are happening on the development side.

It’s not creepy. It’s super rad, like I want designers doing. Cember their design system should be versions just like the app and optimally they should match. It’d be really cool if, like the design system was out v 1.0 point twenty one, and so was the front end right because it was a consumer of that version. There’s a lot of opportunity. I think developers would like to have relinquished control over things like changing.

Colors and if the system is built well changing the value in one place like this master file and having it applied downstream to every button and everything else that depends on that color. I think they would love that. I I think so too. I think we just need some tooling. I there’s a bunch of people working on apps. I last time I did research. There was like 15 of them, but it’s sort of developers taking a design system building it and then publishing those Legos in like a design app, and so that’s what we’re seeing we’re seeing a bunch of design apps coming out where developers are saying, hey, I’ve exposed The levers to these components for you in this cool tool, where you can now go compose our Legos together and build something new and play in an almost production feeling like design tool, but really it’s still kind of prototyping, because the code it’s making is kind of Anyway, I think we’re headed towards a really cool integration layer there, between designers and developers, where they’re going to be richly working with each other and designers, will start to get more intimate with, like minor details about a component like what a boolean is and why a Boolean is different than an enum and why they should care and because those things are cool, I don’t think they’re scary all does viz bug actually fit into that vision.

This bug yeah. So if is bug school is it’s got a few of them? One of them is designer developer communication. You know a designer is often in their design tool. Land over here they’ve got an art board and everything’s placed XY, which made it really easy for them to. You know, highlight multiple and drag and delete. They had this. Like direct manipulation, but what is a bummer about that world is that it doesn’t translate.

Well, somebody’s, always translating it. So I was like a front-end engineer. I would receive one of those and I start looking at it, nice translating it to code and what viz bug does is it it sort of takes what the developers are making and lets? You inspect their work like it’s an art board and I’m I’m seeing folks that are having better communication with their engineers because they can feel things.

There’s like an empathy, that’s starting to happen, because the complexity that is the front end, is now something that designers can contribute to. They can go poke and inspect and modify and an experience why some of these things are complex or experience. How easy some of the stuff is, and so this book is definitely in there in the game to help designers and developers communicate better. It has some features where you know.

If you modify some CSS, you can show what changed in screenshot that and send it to an engineer so there’s an opportunity to even be like super articulate to a developer about what it is you need, but it’s also this book has to set their goal. So it’s kind of Sophie’s book is kind of like Firebug for designers. Its goal is to provide the same thing that Firebug did for developers, but it’s something for designers.

So give me tooling, that’s familiar to me in the end environment that can help me make better decisions, and it does that I think really. Well it a bunch of cool features too I’ll, just like breeze over and really quick, but there’s there’s guides. So you can hover and see lines and detect measure you can do measurements, you can inch. You can hover and instantly see any styles that are there, and I’ve done a lot of work to make sure that those styles that you see are the ones that designers want to see.

You’re not going to see all the craft. There’s an ally and accessibility inspector same deal. You click it. You just start hovering on stuff and it’ll. Tell you accessibility, details, there’s margin and spacing visualizations now, so you can hover and see, padding and see margin separate, so the dev tools shows them together and mine shows them separate and I support multi select. So you can multi select multiple things and as a designer or an engineer and see how the spacing is creating all that white space like where’s the white space coming from.

Is it a margin? Is it pushing or is it so? Those are interesting? You can also create, or you can’t create well now, you can’t create, but you can delete you can cut, you can copy, you can paste, you can double click, any text to change it. You can change any foreground color, you can change any SVG. You can there’s a position tool, you can just select something and then drag it around the screen and totally ignore the document flow.

So there’s tools to help you work with the flow tools to help you work out of the flow. It’s about, like you, feeling unfettered and getting an idea out right there, and, and it should feel fun like I wanted. It’s almost like. I wanted to break the glass four designers on a web page like we’re, constantly pulling down these magical pieces of paper and they feel so far away for designers like I can’t change that I’ll just go back over I’ll, just screenshot it I’ll come over here.

I’ll add a white box and cover up that – and you know like make this whole Franken thing and then ship that back to the developer and be like. Please like. Can you do this thing here and, and I’m hoping that folks start to do that in the browser which kind of comes into another value prop, but I do want to cover really quickly like this book wants to be more well. I have this phrase: it’s democratized the DOM and really what that means to me is.

I want the web and designing on the web to be more inclusive. I remember when it was easier and you know we were on MySpace and anybody could just go grab some CSS and paste it on the page and be like. Oh that’s, fun. That makes my brain tingle and a nice fun way better and worse for better or worse right. That’s vis bugs the same way. I’ve read or worse, people can go visit a page and play, but I think what that does is it opens up for children and adults too to feel like they can play like there’s like it’s now kind of a sandbox which simultaneously, I think we start to Like when you, when you start to learn by playing it first, there’s there’s just something different about starting that way than like going to school, and I starting all serious.

So I’m hoping that this can help people who are serious but also help people that aren’t that serious, be more inclusive and I forgot whatever. The second thing I was going to say was but yeah I mean, there’s lots of interesting features of his bug, but it’s trying to help wants to wants to be the design, debugging tools des tools. Perhaps oh I like that. So what resources would you recommend for people who want to learn more about design systems and everything else? We talked about yeah Design Systems, okay, so whoo, there’s folks, there’s three folks did I’m a big fan of dan mall.

You know Kravitz and Brad Frost there. They’re super articulate vocal public figures that are passionately talking about these topics and helping you ramp up or ramp down. Dan mall recently has been helping people not over focus on the Atomics of their design system, because you can get super like wrapped up in a button, and he did this really funny thing at a list of part. Recently he showed just was so good.

You should a button on the screen and then showed four companies that that could potentially be the button for and he’s like who’s button. Is that and everyone’s like? Oh, I don’t know, maybe that one, it was a blue button right and so the point was we can over focus on these little things and that’s not your brand and he’s essentially pushing you to real, like step back a little bit and determine like what’s unique About your business and and make make components and designs some out of those like your value prop like how are you different, because the Atomics are atomic, I thought that was really nice.

Yuna has a bunch of really cool things that she’s been pitching as well. She’s. Pitching accessibility in your components, which I think is really healthy and and she’s advocating for maybe you don’t need one so sometimes, and this is something I’m a believer in too, which is often we want to be the top dog like now, and so we go do Whatever the top dog is doing, we’re like alright, I need you know, legendary armor.

I need a sword of the gods of the ten thousand XP right, and so we like, we show up and we’re like level one, but we’ve got all the gear and we’re like this will make me good right and it does to a point. But it can also be a bunch of baggage and, like you, can’t even make it through the door of the first dungeon because you’re like to cover it in gear right. You got like magic shooting out of each fingers.

So I like that advice too, which is like look at the phase that you’re in as a team look at the phase Etrian as a product. You know notice that GCP, which is a very very large product, has an entire team dedicated to this. Now it’s that complex there is absolutely value coming out of a design system, but you got to look at the ROI like how much you putting in versus what you’re getting out, and I think that’s what that warning is it’s like.

You can spend a whole lot of time on the Atomics of your design system. You can spend a whole lot of time, making it really robust and then nobody uses it. So you got to make sure you have customers and anyway. Those three folks are really good to go. Look up and listen to they’ve got plenty of material for you to study. Well Adam. This has been great picks coming on the show, absolutely yeah. I was really fun.

You can check out the links to everything we talked about in the description below thanks for reading and we’ll see you next time.

SEO for YouTube and s

I’m going to be talking to you about how to do SEO for YouTube a number two search engine and how to optimize your articles for higher rankings in that search engine. So Who am? I am stuff and Spencer, I’m the co-author of the art of SEO, co-author of social commerce and author of Google power search all published by o’reilly. I founded an SEO agency in the 90s called net concepts.

I sold it to covario in 2010. I invented an SEO technology platform called gravity stream and I have an SEO training and coaching program at science of SEO com. So that’s me, these are my books. If you don’t really care about that. You care about getting the result for yourselves and want me to share with you a little brief case study example of how you can achieve this. Even if you’re a kid my daughter and she started doing SEO and blogging when she was 14.

You can see in the screenshot here. She’s got some YouTube articles where she’s doing some screencast, showing some game, cheats and so forth for a neopets, calm website and how to earn extra lives or an extra points, and things like that, so she monetized the site using google adsense and every time people clicked On the google ads that were prominently displayed on her site, she would get paid. So if a kid can do it, so can you, but here is a one of the easiest tools of all to do.

Seo with for youtube is simply just start doing some searches or typing in some keystrokes into the youtube search engine and the search box. You’ll see search suggestions based on the keystrokes that you’ve already typed. So these are roughly an order of popularity that gives you some good brainstorming. You can also use a tool called suble, which I covered in another segment about keyword, brainstorming.

So if you go to sue volcom – and you start typing in some different keywords and see what the search suggestions are not just from youtube, but also Google and Bing and Yahoo and answers com and so forth – that’s pretty cool. You can also use google trends, but not in the way that you might be accustomed to. Let me show you specifically what I mean. So if I go to google.Com / trends and then I put in whatever like a neopets – and I want to see how that performs as a keyword in youtube well, I have to change from web search up here on the top to youtube search.

Most people don’t even know that that even exists. That option allows me to get data back on what keywords are popular in the youtube search results? Is that awesome or what so be sure to use google trends and incorporate that into your YouTube SEO a tool set? All right, so, let’s now talk about what to create in terms of article content, because if you create something, that’s not very worthy of being readed or or shared or liked, or anything like that, then it’s just going to fall flat.

It’s not going to go viral! It’s not going to get a lot of views, it’s not going to rank well because it’s just not remarkable and when I say remarkable I mean stuff codons definition of remarkable. It’s worth remark about it’s a purple cow, so you need to create something that is worth remarking about and the format of it doesn’t matter whether it’s a screen cast recording or it’s a article of you.

You know talking that sort of article or it’s a montage of different images or it’s an audio podcast with some still images added to it. So it is now in article forms and taking your audio podcast and you’ve uploaded it to YouTube could be any number of different things. But you know this unique article based content has to again be worthy of somebody wanting to share it, a link to it blog about it, etc.

So these are some different kinds of articles. This one is a explainer article. That’s one of those white board type of articles. Here’s an explainer article, that’s done as an animation. This one is a next. I guess you could call it an explainer article, but it’s just more of a viral article, really good Dollar Shave Club on the map. This thing went crazy, viral millions and millions of views. This is another type of whiteboard explainer article, but this one is, you know with the guy talking and explaining and having that.

Actually, this is not a white board as a flip chart. Here’s another whiteboard article. This is from one of my co-authors on the art of SEO, and this is a podcast, but one where they’ve taken the article of the podcasters speaking instead of using still images, they took article as well, and this is a fun science article. This is the past client of mine, steve Spangler, been on the ellen, show a bunch of times and everything doing.

I was crazy. Amazing science experiments and he has several different youtube blogs that do really well Spangler effect is one of them is also six science says another one and steve Spangler Science pocket or blog. This is a screencast which is just a screen recording and you can explain different software programs or you can go through PowerPoint decks like what I’m doing here. You can just use screen recording software, such as ScreenFlow for the mac or Camtasia for PC or Mac to record the screen, and your audio as the overlay here is a really popular example of a kind of an explainer article, but done with animation using xtranormal, where You pick the avatars and you give it the script and then the avatars speak the lines that you’ve given it.

This is a micro sites where it was live, article of a intern college intern who worked all summer long at the prophetic and melds headquarters. You know from Mentos the makers of mentos. He worked there just sitting in front of a webcam and then chatting with people who came to the mentos internal website as well as you can give them work to do I go. He can you fill out the spreadsheet for me and stuff, because what else is he going to do? Is just sit in front a computer all day in front of the webcam, so that was a fun viral live article stream websites that did really well in social media and got lots of links so just think outside the box.

Basically and then once you have this really compelling link worthy article content and you’re going to want to leverage power users to get that noticed by a larger audience and then potentially to spill over and to like go viral. Basically, and so you go get that that snowball effect happening or just keep growing, bigger and bigger and bigger, and then just kind of ticks off with a life of its own.

So you could create something that if it leverages an existing name or you create a new meme meme is a copy me instruction, backed up by threats and or promises. It’s a great definition from that’s the best definition. I’ve ever heard it’s from an expert, and professor and viral means you want to see your link worthy articles from a power user account. So you want to have power user in your back pocket that you can tap into somebody who has a big fan base.

So when they submit it, it’s going to get viewed by a number of people and then that snowball effect happens. You can also reach out to influencers and we’ll get to that little bit, reach out to influencers and offer that compelling content in a way that makes them want to share it. But it’s a lot easier, just to have a power user in your back pocket that you can just call in a favor with or or pay them some money and they seed your remarkable content.

Ok, so article content building, it’s got to be compelling, as I’ve said. You’ve got to hopefully reinforce the message of your brand around and pick the right keywords that you want to target use a watermark so that if people steal your article, your brand is still going to there’s still going to be brand impressions for you, even if they Ripped off your article and are using it elsewhere include links and references to your site like in the article description and YouTube description so forth, we’ll get to that in a minute.

So the title should be keyword rich and compelling. Should convince the user, the the YouTube user to click, to read your article. It’s one of the most compelling things. The only thing more compelling in terms of driving the clip from the youtube search results is the thumbnail. It’s important to be a concise but also keyword, rich, it’s kind of a balancing act, keep it to the 62 character or less limit and short and punchy and compelling is the key here.

The description, here’s an opportunity for you to further add more relevant keywords into the mix and to differentiate yourself from competitors and provide a unique son proposition. A really great call to action, put a link to your site high in the description. So they don’t have to click on the show more link to a button to see your your link, but it’s maybe the first line of the description tags are important as well.

So tags would be keywords that are going to and get this magic happening in the back, and you don’t see what these tags are. As a youtube user, you’d have to use you have to view source and give you the HTML source to see what those tags are in our competitors article but anyways, it’s it is used in the ranking, Doug rhythm at need you to again you want to do Your keyword, research before you identify the tags that you want to incorporate, don’t use throwaway words like and and 2 comma separate these tags and put them in order of importance to you.

So the most important most popular keywords should be the first ones in the list of tags yep. So let’s talk now about annotations. Annotations are a great way to drive, clicks and different user actions. If viewer is reading the article – and you really want them to subscribe, your blog to like the article to visit your website to whatever right you want to make those calls to action in the side of a an annotation, and these annotations can be added later.

After the article has been published and everything a lot of these things can be changed and, added to after the article has been published on YouTube, you can go back and change the title: the description, the thumbnail, the annotations and so forth. Let’s yeah: let’s ask people over location, we’ll talk now about thumbnails, because this is so so critical. This is the screenshot over. On the right hand, side comes from the blog of vat19.

Com vat19.Com you tube. They have over 440 million views across all of their YouTube articles and it’s amazing. They have some articles that have tens of millions of views, so pretty amazing and they’re all product articles. They saw all sorts of crazy stuff like 26 pound me bears, and things like that, so you can see from the screenshot that their thumbnails are compelling. They make you want to click and not just some talking head.

The worst kind of thumbnail is one: where just looks super boring. You can upload your own custom thumbnail. You just have to have a you. Just left a bit a verified youtube account, so just specify a mobile phone number. It will YouTube, will send you a text message with the verification code. Then you use that in the verification you can just type in that code into the YouTube site boom. Now your verified user and you can upload custom thumbnails.

It doesn’t even have to be a frame from the article it could be completely. Custom announced all sorts of graphics on to it, etc. All right now formats, don’t matter, could be a avi or WMV or whatever lanes of the article try to keep it short of. Like definitely less than 10 minutes, I’ve say even less than five minutes make it concise and punchy. The usability expert, Steve Krug, who wrote don’t make me think, says this write copy for your site and cut it in half and cut it in half again.

Do same thing for your your article transcripts or your article scripts, just to make it punchy short and sweet and value high value. Add, and also bear in mind as far as metrics are concerned for YouTube, is paying much more attention not to the number of views for your article, but to the percentage of your article that users read that’s a key key metric transcripts. So if you override YouTube’s auto-generated transcript with your own you’re, going to have a much higher quality transcript, because if you look at the caption of the caption text or transcript text that is auto generated by YouTube, it’s full of errors, it’s a joke! So definitely you want to upload your own version.

That’s all corrected even better. If you can also upload foreign language translations of your transcript, then people can read the version of your article in their foreign language. The audio is still the same, but it now has closed. It has subtitles, so that’s pretty awesome and then now you’re, showing up in foreign language search queries to on YouTube. You can use services to pit you pay a service to create a transcript for you, like dotsub or automatic sync, and never turn off the ability for users to like and dislike your article.

It’s a crucial part of user engagement and likes, or it’s a crucial metric that YouTube looks at right. So when you build links to your article on YouTube, also build links to a web version, that’s like embedded on your website or a microsite, and, for example, Blendtec has all these viral articles of the founder tom dixon blending, ipods, iphones action figures rake handles the golf Clubs, etc, etc.

In his blenders, that’s pretty fun to read, but if he only got links just to the YouTube articles, that would not help his SEO as much as if he also got links to his his own website and what they did was to created. A separate microsite called. Will it blend calm because Blendtec calm is all about e-commerce buying their their product, whereas will it blend? Calm is all about those viral articles.

If I’m a journalist writing about those viral articles, I’d want to link to the microsite as well as link to the YouTube blog. So that’s a great way to get some additional SEO benefit by having really popular articles. You could also consider syndicating your article onto other popular article sharing sites, like blip TV and metacafe, and so forth. You could use a tool like drop load to do that in a more automated fashion.

So you don’t have to go to each site individually. You can upload it once and then use drop load to upload it to all the different places that you specify reference. Your URL of your YouTube article and your RSS and M RSS feeds. Mrs S is multimedia or media, really simple, syndication feed for folks who are grabbing podcasts and so forth, automatically on to their into their itunes and so forth. Let’s see so those are some tips for article link building and then anchor text is going to be important when people use words like click here or check this out or read.

This, then, that’s not as helpful as, if they’re, using keyword, rich phrases, because google, the search engines in general, associate the anchor text of the underlying words in the link with the page that’s being linked to. So, of course we want diversity. We don’t want it to look overly engineered with the same keyword, rich phrase appearing all over the place. That looks not legit, but we want diversity and keyword, rich anchor text to a some degree to a limited degree.

We want to go over the top and then also just measure your success using YouTube analytics using Voot and boot looks like this. This is giving you really great insight into not just number of views, but other YouTube engagement, metrics like likes and dislikes favoriting comments. Article replies etc and it tracks your youtube search rankings too. I don’t know of any other tool that tracks your youtube search.

Rankings probably potentially may be tracking. Your search rankings in Google and Yahoo and Bing may be using to like Authority, labs or Moz calm, but what about your youtube search rankings? It’s the number two search engine. So that’s where food comes in via OT net and then turn off your article statistics in your youtube articles, because you don’t want your comment to be checking you out and looking at things like the trend over time and views and time readed and subscriptions and so Forth, that’s for your eyes only! It should be so turn that off it’s just a simple little checkbox to disable that so here’s where you do it, you just tick the box that says one tick, the box that says make these stats publicly available.

So that was a lot of cool stuff in a very short little article. So I hope this was helpful to you be sure to follow me on twitter at spencer and email, my assistant, if you would like some really cool freebies, including an extended edition version of the slide deck, I can hopefully hook you up with a beta invite to Boot, I know the folks there they’re good people. The Best Blogging Tips

Now I’m a computer science engineer, but after having worked in the corporate world for about five years, I quit my job and start this blog called digital inspiration. Now this blog mostly has how-to guides in software tutorials around all things tech. I start this blog in 2004.

So it’s almost 10 years now that I have been talking now. It was a very different story back then there was no Facebook or Twitter and the only way people could subscribe to your blog was through RSS feeds or through email newsletters. Also, Google was a mere collection. Google search results were a mere collection of 10 blue links, so it was relatively easy to get on the front pages of Google. It’s almost impossible now.

Also people would maintain blog roles and link roles, so if they found something interesting, they would generously link to you today. If I find something interesting on the internet, I either tweet it or put it on Facebook, but back then people would generously link to your stuff from their own blogs. So what does it take to become a successful blogger? Now, frankly speaking, there are no secrets or magic van that will make your blog a success, but I think it’s a combination of good luck, hard work and consistency in one of my recent interviews with Lifehacker.

They asked me how I work and I said I work enthusiastic Lee and I work diligently. I do not see my blog as work. I see that as my hobby, it’s like getting paid for your hobby, I’m always looking forward to working on my site. The next morning, I’m always looking to improve my site, and I think this this attitude has kept me going all these years. So in this article I will try to try to summarize some of my learnings and I will try to share some tips that will probably help improve your blog and take it to the next level.

So, let’s get started tip number one. I think this is the most important one you should move to WordPress if you’re on blogger, do your blog, a favor and move everything to WordPress. It isn’t complicated and will definitely help you in the long run, especially from the search engine perspective. Now. Blogger is a great platform, it’s easy and they have some great visual templates, but the biggest drawback with blogger is that blocks everything from search engines that not an article or opposed.

Also. It is relatively difficult to tickle with the back end and that may become a bottleneck once you want to take your blog to the next level. There’s another big concern that I have with bloggers, and that is it’s mostly a distraction for Google now Google. In the past have mercilessly killed products that have been very popular, for example, Google Reader, I’m not saying that Google will kill bloggers someday, but why build your business on something where you do not have enough control on the platform itself? The content you write is definitely the most important part, but at the same time you got to have a good and interesting writing style to really attract an audience.

You just cannot say that this is how I write. This is my site and that’s how it will be good. Writing is a gift that comes naturally to some of us, but if you happen to be in the other half, please get some good books. There’s the element of style. There is on writing by Stephen King. There is on writing well and also eat shoots and leaves right the drafts in a proper editor. You could use Microsoft Word or Poetica, because these will highlight all the typos and grammatical errors in your writing.

You don’t want them to appear on the main site, because that will convey a really bad impression. I would also recommend getting a style guide, something like the New York Times style guide or The Associated Press style book, because they will help you develop a consistent writing style. These style guides have accepted writing rules for journalism, and there is no reason why you cannot apply those rules to your own style of writing.

Don’t try to imitate someone else’s style. You have your own personal style and your blog readers are following your blog because they love your style. Make your writing your own. You don’t have to imitate someone. Not do you have to write your blog as, if you’re writing a press release make it personal. The most important part of a blog is actually the post headline in suddenly everybody is trying to do BuzzFeed style headlines.

This is why the Apple read is not round the chart that Google executives don’t want you to see. You will never believe what Facebook will and will next now with these headlines. What happens is that you raise the expectation level of the audience and when they read the actual content, they are often disappointed. Such headlines do invite visitors. But what is the point of a visit when the person is just glancing at your site and leaving it disappointed? My suggestion would be that you have boring headlines that are accurate, but they not be very cute or clever.

Everyone should be able to guess what article is all about by looking at the post headline itself: there’s a lot of noise in the blogging world and there’s a mad rush to report something new. But I take a step back and think. Are you really adding any value or just contributing to the echo chamber? It is probably the job of the mainstream media. Are the really big blogs to publish news, as happens, but for the rest of us? We can step back and only say when we have something interesting to say: you won’t lose much if you aren’t among the first few to reporter news, just say no to gas blogging, I mean think like a business when you aren’t getting anything in return by giving Away a content to other side for free.

Yes, it will help raise your profile on the Internet. If you manage to write for repeated and authoritative sites like TechCrunch or The Huffington Post, but 99 % of the guest blogging on the Internet is done to direct some link juice to your actual website, but that’s just waste also, as your blog will grow popular you Will see that big publishers are approaching you asking for permission to republish your stuff? Now don’t get too excited about this? They will promise you eyeballs in turn, for your content, but that won’t actually happen.

People will just read your content on their side and go away. What you should instead ask for is a two-way partnership. If they can republish your stuff, would they be? Ok if you republish their stuff on your own website, always make it a point to use good high-resolution images or screenshots with your blog post. This helps for two reasons: when people share your content on social sites like Twitter and Facebook, your story may stand out in the crowded newsfeed just because of that image.

The other important reason is that you can cleverly use images to draw attention to parts of a page that you want to emphasize and if your articles are really long, you can use an image to add break points to add visual break points, and it goes without Saying that you should only use images that you have either captured or those that are in the public domain or under Creative Commons and never ever use stock images on your blog.

They look good on corporate sites, but not on blogs. It is definitely important to rank well in Google search pages, but the problem is that none of us really know how Google works. They have some 200 plus factors to decide the ranks of web pages, and we only know about a few of them. The fact is that, as long as you have the basics right, the cream will automatically rise to the top. So here are a few SEO related tips that will probably help you improve.

The visibility of your blog in search engines 1 have an HTML sitemap so that all your pages are no more than two or three levels deep from the homepage. This will help the Googlebot and other search engine. Bots discover your content when writing content. When writing block was make sure that it’s well organized and that it has headings subheadings and your images should have titles and captions always interlink your content, so that both human visitors, as well as the search BOTS, can find the goal.

That’s hiding in your archives. Also, when it’s not just about the headlines, you should also pay special attention to the excerpt, because that will show up in search, snippets and other places when people share your content on social sites, because people will use that snippet as well to decide whether they really Want to click that link and come to your site or not. You should never rely on your blogging software to auto-generate that, except you should always write it on your own.

Any web page on your website has two parts. There is the main content which includes the actual article that you have written and then there is the common content stuff, like the navigation area, the footer, the sidebar stuff, that’s present across all pages on your site, so in your HTML source, you should ensure that the Main content is above the common content, because that will help search engines understand what your page is all about.

Also, he should use breadcrumbs because that will help search engines understand the organization of content on your site. Do pay attention to your site’s typography, because reading experience matters, google has released some good fonts like Roboto, open sense that look good across all screens, including mobile devices, and you can consider using these fonts on your website as well site. Speed is definitely important, because if your website doesn’t load in a few seconds, people will abandon your site and go to another one.

So what you can do about it? You can switch to a good host make sure that your images are compressed. Your sites, assets like the CSS and JavaScript files, are cacheable and also try to keep your site simple. I mean keep all the bells and whistles out of your site so that your pages load fast. It goes without saying that you’ve got to switch to a responsive design. It’s a Google recommended practice and it will also help you save time, because you don’t have to maintain two versions of your site, one for the desktop and one for the mobile.

While you may be drowning in email. There are a lot of people who still prefer to get the daily dose of News through the email newsletter and therefore important that you use a professional service to send your email newsletters. Now, services, like MailChimp have an RSS to email functionality that will automatically convert your RSS feed into an email newsletter, but I would suggest, is don’t use these services instead handcraft your email newsletter, because the response rate, the open rate, will be much much higher good and Useful content automatically spreads on the internet, but if that’s not happening with your content, for some reason, it will not be a bad idea to pitch people, but who should who? Should you pitch fellow bloggers? Well, there is no harm if you can keep your emails short and do it occasionally, but do you really know who you should contact when you have written something good and useful? You should contact someone who has previously commented on your story.

You should contact someone who has previously shared your story on social sites. These are the people who are really fans of your work and they will happily evangelize your content and I think it’s much better going after them than the influencers who are extremely busy and they may not even have the time to read your emails when someone lands On your website, for the first time, they are very likely to check your about a space to know more about you and whether you are really an expert at some topic.

So that’s your window of opportunity to impress him and to convert him from a casual visitor into a regular visitor, so make sure that you have written are really good about this page. But what should it contain? Well, it must have links to your most popular. Your most important posts that you have written you should make it easy for people to subscribe to your content. There should be a search button so that people can search your archives and, if you’ve ever been mentioned in the press of the media, make sure that you have a list there, because that will make your bio more credible.

To someone who doesn’t know you. This are probably the easiest way to get traffic on your website there easier to scan. They are easier to write and they’re more likely to go viral now, once in a while is okay, but if you are only focused on producing list post on your blog, readers are less likely to appreciate it if you’ve been blogging for a while. You know that there is old content in your archives.

That’s either not relevant or some of the links old articles may no longer be working. Now. I would suggest, keep updating your old articles so that they always stay fresh and relevant. This may be your personal preference, but if something is of no use, it can probably be removed from your blog, because you are not running a newspaper or a legal firm where every document has to be preserved. I will give you an example here.

I had a lot of Orkut related posts on my blog. They were relevant and useful when I wrote them few years ago, but now that Orkut is no longer available, those posts are pretty useless. So I had two options. I can either let them stay in the archives or I may get rid of them permanently and direct all that juice to something more relevant and more related. Think of the reader first and the revenue later now.

Advertising is definitely important, but if you only focus on the commercial angle for your blog, it is difficult to build a loyal audience in the long run. Adsense buy, sell ads and blog ads is some good advertising networks, but you should always stay away from those low and advertising networks that happily runs comets on the other side, because, ultimately, you are responsible for what ads are shown to your visitors on your site.

You can easily attract the attention of other website owners by generously linking to them, because your blog posts will show up in their site logs. They may check out your blog and ultimately help spread the word among their audience. You can also add depth to your post by linking to other websites that have covered the same topic, but may have a different perspective. Some people even suggest that Google prefers pages that have links and they see them as more trusty and more authoritative.

I will give you the example of a medical site here, so you have two sites that have almost the same kind of content, but in the first site, links to all the research papers, all the web sites that it has referred to before. Creating that page and the other site has no links, it has just text. So, if you’re reading these two pages, you are more likely to trust the one that has those links to the research papers and that has cited all the sources.

Right same is true. With Google, they may see pages that have links as most trustworthy, more authoritative, you’re, probably using Google antics to measure the traffic on your website. But are you looking at the right? Metrics pageviews are useless because somebody comes and just leaves that’s a loss visit. What you really need to focus is the returning visitor count, the bounce rate and the amount of time that people are spending on your website if they’re, just landing and leaving you got to diagnose, why that’s happening? Maybe they aren’t finding the information in your pages.

Maybe the title is something else, and the actual content is something else. Maybe they don’t like the layout of your site? Maybe the typography is bad. You got to diagnose the reason you should always strive to increase the amount of time that people spend on your web pages and there are a few ways to do that. You can add a related post section to your website so that once people are done reading a article, they can check out the other related articles on your site.

You can also try the approach that QC comment. Encom have taken up where the next article automatically loads. When somebody has finished reading the current article, Google is no longer sharing the search queries with their masters, but you can always analyze your internal search, queries through Google custom search and through Google Analytics to understand what kind of solutions people are seeking on your website.

You can then go a step further in Google custom search. You can use the annotations feature to automatically highlight such pages in search results and readers have limited time. So if you give them the information, they are looking for instantly they’re going to like you even more in all these years, I have tried to harness various publication blogs and I think that has also helped grow. My blog, I have written a book for the Kindle.

Our YouTube blog, I do a podcast on iTunes, which is essentially my youtube articles in downloadable format I curate stuff on Flipboard. I also upload my slides on SlideShare. Now only a few hundred thousand people probably know about my website, but these blogs are known to millions of Internet users. It does helps to have a presence there. You can automate all this with IFT tea and buffer, but always repurpose your content for other blogs.

Everyone can have a blog on the internet, but the thing that differentiates you from other blogs is, of course, your expertise, your writing skills and most important your credibility. The editorial should be completely separate from the business side of the blog, because your readers are 10x, smarter than you think. The blog world operates on the principle of transparency, and that should be a guiding principle as well.

Thanks you

How I made $13,000+ PROFIT in 1 DAY Online [PASSIVE income?]

Dollars coming in under 12 hours and in this article I’m going to explain exactly how we did that. So I’m going to outline our entire step by step funnel what we did, what I learned, what I’ll do differently next time and all the little tactical things along the way. So if you just wanted to know the overall figures, you got them now, but this article it’s pretty interesting.

So I’m excited for you to see it, and I look forward to hearing a comment from you below as to what you think about what we did and maybe anything that you’ve learned from it. So I’m just in my hotel room after speaking at an event J. After Black Friday is Sunday the past December, and I’m going to be singing at another event today, I just wanted to do a little recap on how all that Friday, emotionally so pretty much on Black Friday, we launched a new offer, which is where my audience could Buy my money-making messaging method, which is what we use to talk to people through direct messages and get them booking course and I’ll also give a bonus, which is an outreach trip.

So people could reach up central plans without being sleazy or salesy or, like you see all the time, not intent like hey. Do you wan na connect? I have this thing that I think it’s going to help. You know we have a much better method to pass. Retail and then we have the money messaging method, actually get a little cool to look at sudden already seen this way. That was one thing that goodbye, and the next thing is this sales script on north, which was just a sales domination.

Instead of just offering those products, we actually had a new low ticket front. So I did. Was I launched a new ebook which is five steps to getting 5 online clients and and then the other day on blackberry, a depressed but not $ 4 and $ 7? And $ 13 then $ 19, and so it was really interesting. Seeing purchasing interview didn’t really change one little s90 and then we also had an audible which is basically where you can take a box and add something to your purchase and the oil bottles of resources.

Hot, which is basically all the resources that you need to run your online coaching, slash consulting business, really affordable supplies. First, people from spending hours and hours in Google, manna figure out was best – I saw you know give them was actually going best, then, after that, after day, for our just even I taken the one-time, offer the or bump as well and then took them to a Next page, which was like wait, grab the money-making mystery method, it’s normally 997 dollars, that’s all going to be putting up.

This is my first order like that boy. It’s going to be selling more now cuz. It makes you much money. Basically, they can have the opportunity to just do a one-click, absolutely they dream up and then it’s automatically after that page, whether they case yes or no. It took them to the sales domination training which they could get access to or 297. I think of that, and then we increase that one in seven the money-making mystery method started at 97.

Then I went to one in seven then. Obviously now it’s none okay, so that was essentially what we did. We did interest me in that sales donation have another cell which is impact on our business. However, we’re going to do an insane crazy, Lord, on Cyber Monday, so I just want to run through the numbers and everything which we achieve so here my start for showing the sale or the money-making machine method and the sales donation.

We did got a couple of sales, I think. Overall, we had. Let me just check here, so we actually had six sales or the impact online business programs and all those six people took the payment plan, so that was 758 times 6. That’s going to come up to four point: five K dollars; okay, but basically it’s all just a long talk. All things I’m about to share with you, but then that’s for mop, okay, they’re, going to pay on this month next month, racks of the three month payment that okay.

So basically, as you can see here, augers sales were 8.8 K, plus the wetback. So, let’s just say like that was around 13 gram, so bearing in mind we launched this around, I think it was 9:00 p.M. UK time on Black Friday, or am I’ve been yet social media? We launched it at literally 8 or 9 p.M. You cater to my email list. We launched it earlier, but from the email list. We said click here and I will send you the link.

It then took them into a messenger book, but my messenger bought automatically sent on the link, which meant I could manually pull up right because it’s awkward. If a messenger you send out like an osmotic link, and then you have a series going on all those magic messages, it just doesn’t work because it means that what happens is it’s really awkward because you’re just like sending automatic messages while they might be messaging, you Back and it just makes it really an authentic and it breaks the trust, which is why one initial automatic message will have my money: pull up wins every time.

I think that’s why we were able to generate this much in overall and being like under 12 hours. So costly routine, going on at all hours, but you said that a break in that data and then in here you can actually see the offerors overall volume himself from Black Friday and Saturday as well. Sorry, I complained one t7k and then that’s very possible. I think so I wrote it down in Grand in two days pretty much like 30 hours or so so, I’m very happy with that.

The thing that I’m not so happy about it’s, like all the tech issues that we have. However, me this isn’t a problem, because it means that I have now learnt from my nursery mistakes, but I’ve learned what goes wrong. Everyone work. What doesn’t work, how to actually get ahead. Specific things in the funnel are going to cause problems. So the reason why this excites me that I had so many problems, little boy is that now my high tech, a client, you join me and you get to like, let say 50 grand profit per month.

I can then actually teach them this booty, the one next library mantra they can bounce up, or, let’s say at some point along the year next year. I just want to do a load to get launched. They can use the exact one of the ideas. I know that I, why not very interesting if we go actually into the spot. Basically, what you’ll see right. The average cart value with eighty six point: two: nine dollars. This isn’t including the image on a business program, the simplicity sake, because we have a real problems with the check out on that, but all the people who thought just paired those six people who jumped in on the parent plan for 750 dollars times three.

They use a separate checkout page just because it was going to be them, but it was really interesting. So the money-making messaging method, we have twenty full sales on that, but then, for this sales trip only have five dozen rushers me, but I’m to make that offer more unit, because the revenue generated someone’s making messaging method was over double what was generated from the sales For this, why the father of the social script was a wrestler okay, so the money-making mystery method generated.

Let’s just see here, they generated three point: five K: whereas the cell script generated one point, 4 K and the e-book generated one point one game, and then how interesting is that? So that shows me that all marketing and everything for the money-making mystery method was on plane, and so it’s just made it really clear to me as to how I did them. What I did because on my social media and on my blast, I was sending out with what I was doing tons of testimonials, but am I making this team? Is it myself stuff? I literally did nothing so the fact that we generated one point: okay from that, it’s great it’s kind of like an extra bonus, because we don’t really do any marketing for it whatsoever.

So with that said, it’s been a very interesting learning curve and it’s helped me realize, keep moving forward with this one in particular, we’re going to do. We need to make the sales donation offer more sexy and appealing, because, honestly, that is a really good offer. It’s just like we haven’t made it clear enough inside of our actual marketing out. Quite how good bit so we’re going to welcome going just manuals that and marketing that out.

But then what I also realized was like having a page having like one author right, which is our ebook, the merging it was a really dirty choir with all of us that really works the order bar. If I can see yeah okay, I don’t know how to see exactly how many people actually took the order I’ll fill out and I’ll make another who’s like that, but the e-book below to get most the order. I know people took the order up, which is great, because that automatically pretty much doubles your average order value.

I mean when that you’ve it was $ 1.00 that took be our value from $ 1 at the $ 20 right. That’s amazing, so those that second thing is that most money messaging method marketing, so that was awesome sales needs to be better. Then it should we got having that extra step on the end, just annoying people we had tons of people emailing back saying I accidentally after that was like way more money than I was when Spanky’s can you from me? Normally we don’t offer refunds like on this.

One occasion because it was a new thing that I haven’t done before we gave it to them. Obviously I want to make sure that people are happy and go and they want, and then I know that they’re going to lovely got so much though coming around to throughout that, as soon as they’ve made enough money from the money-making misslisa things like that. So what we’re going to do so? The Monday is put that final offer.

The high ticket one, which is mid ticket, we’re actually going to do a really special offer for cyber monday, is the day of the online business, and this program is the impact of online business, so it just makes so much sense. So I wish I’d thought of that before, but it’s cool because all of my clients are online purchase and result set. So what I’m going to do them next year for my high ticket is I’ll give them this funnel.

That’s already done and filled them set up together. All the stress I’ve been through, but you read my youtube blog you’ll know how much I don’t so that’s and then I can say, look just hold something back for Cyber Monday so that you can sort of like sweet and review on cyber monday and say because I’m an online business you’re going to get all this this every Monday on my myths right make sense huh.

So that’s basically, what’s going on there, it was pretty cool that we generated over 10 grand in a day, but all the stress that was worth. I know that when we make our ticket, I think it sells. You know we make more than that. So was it worth it, it was worth it for me and my position where I help people with this type of where I help people basically build online. Consulting businesses, because for my high level people, then it’s going to be great, but if you’re just starting out in your new, it’s not worth time and effort and stress it’s you’re, much better off to just sell high ticket.

It was just look: let’s see how many new client I have. I had let’s see how many new customers right. Let me just pull this up right. Okay, so stripe is showing me that was a hundred and thirty seven new customer 137 us 137 new customers. Let’s say you had an offer like $ 3,500 right times: three that beats 10.5 K. So how should we generate? We generated just on Black Friday alone, 8.8 k plus 4.5, so I’m going to do 8.

8 plus 0.5. That comes out to 13 points. So let us say you offer is $ 3,500 nice. You would just need to make all sales $ 3,500 that would generate $ 14,000 right and it’s like all of this dress and a pur. Just I’m not complaining doing oh you’re wrong, it’s just when you put the numbers together, it’s a 137 new customer scenario. What we did or what easier when you have a smaller audience. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go with the height again.

People think oh I’m just starting out, so I can’t you’re my ticket. Actually, that’s not true. In my opinion, it makes you more credible because you’re selling something expensive, which makes it clearly you’re good at what you do and if you’re not confident in the budget. You’re good enough of what you do is like, and you take someone to an outcome that they want. Can you fix someone’s relationship? Can you help someone lose that? Can you help someone generate 10 units per day on LinkedIn, for example, if you can generate an outcome for someone, you can sell a pipe to hit that high to hit wimp.

That’s why I teach my clients inside. In fact, your name is that and in high schools Academy and the five steps ebook how to generate our ticket clients and then the money-making messaging method and the cell domination. They are just tactics that we use to help them get to that outcome. Okay, so, for example, for me, my heart ticket program is impact schools, Academy, there’s a packet of that we have a continuity which is VIP or last month, depending on where you’re at and so really that’s what you need.

You need. The high ticket offer continuity and a high ticket open is to take your transformation and now get such good results. The one asperity, even if they don’t meet, you, don’t want it, and so basically, where I’m at with that, I think me I’ll go. This is success because I learned so much for me, my birth is a lot learning now, it’s not so much about the revenue that I generate, because I know that if I wanted to generate how much revenue just make a couple have tickets sales like it just Be me piece of me lighten our gene two tons people now my facebook profile is so restricted from advertising because of the tech issue on that.

So all this, without without page traffic, now look I’m not saying that to brag. I’m just saying it this! It’s true and I don’t actually think that this is ideal long time, because I know that I want to be running because I am a seasoned marketer. I know how to run them. I love them and I think that absolutely great and you open sea, you say I generate traffic just like I’ve done it, because it’s kind of like baby, I’m the Berlin Wall.

I won’t do that honestly, right. First agent. You know you need to get client to generate what was it 14 grand you don’t need traffic that you can do that through out the DM outreach that we give our clients, for example, and that then using the money, make investing method and then closing them up. Like that’s what we teach our clients to do every single day to scale beyond that in case we I’ve really highly beneficial.

I would like to be using them. It breaks my soul. Are we park use them right now, because it just blogging I’m working on facing. It basically ends with plastics motor. So basically, why not with this is like okay? It was a cool experiment, it was fun for me, my success is learning and growing and developing and the only things I can teach my class in the future, but I’m happy. I know that this time next year, when we have paid traffic, I’m pretty confident already alone, my goal is going to be 250 grand in revenue generated and the cool thing is.

I reckon a little that the economic margins on that probably about eighty percent, because even though it’s like unloading a tunnel, my audience is, like I mean really engaged, which is what and that’s what happens when you have a high to go and look, I never would Have come out with these strategies? These pencils, I didn’t, have my had to go because I named it like the money message. Method gives my hands again and then my audience saying that hey look whoa.

I want this and that obviously will help you to jump in Holland jumped in with me in the future. No wonder job is my: how to get people naturally often think that that’s what everyone’s going to do. Honestly. 27 people – hey your hopes up, LT, was problems. If people have a problem right now solve it through your hightail cool experiment, it was a little long and it was a lot of stress if you are starting out in Italy.

People will see me doing this now, but it’s like comparing your chapter 3, someone else’s chapter 50. I’ve been doing this for a long time now we did that very last year and you and I have a team who was working on this and so again starting out just do. I think you will be so much more successful and I’m just like a different state. Now it’s different phases actually brought about this any bucket, see if you want to grab that I’ll leave it down below yeah there we go so who you do Friday any wins and losses any letter yeah, I’m looking forward to hearing

The 8a Business Development Program Unmasked – Eric Coffie

They don’t know what to do where to go, how to navigate. They don’t even know this program even works.

Someone told them to get a so they lucked up hire a consultant paid someone some money. Maybe they even fill out the application themselves. They got a certification and now they’re stuck well. If you are big hat no cattle stuck with a certification and want to learn how to navigate the program, stay tuned for this article coming up right now, we’re going to take you through a walkthrough on behind the scenes of 8a program and how it works.

All right, thank you for joining over the big screen today, we’re discussing the eight a business development program, the infamous eight, a quote, unquote license to steal program, so many people out there have asked me questions about it. It’s probably the most number one most best thing in government country. It’s Eric the ad program. Should I get n/a? Should I become a day when to start winning not to start, how does it work? I’ve had a date and haven’t been successful.

This is the notorious infamous in a article. So again I’ve been working and wanting to get this out for probably months, if not a year at dispatch. So now I’ve made this article we’re going to talk today about the AAA program and how it works. First and foremost, the three components of a successful 8a program is the agency, the SBA and the firm itself. So again, we all have to work together harmoniously and order to facilitate in a day contract right now.

The SBA and the agencies also will interchange that word between agency and procuring entity, so you’ll hear me mix and match the two words, but the SBA and the agency itself or the procuring entity has what between them called a partnership agreement. So the partnership agreement. The point of it is to help expedite contract actions between the agency, the SBA and the 8 a firm. So, in order to we make this whole a a process work there had to be some rules put in place by the government right saying how the rules work, how it governs a program and allow for those expedient transactions that we come to know that happened along The 8a pathway, and just to give you an example of where the partnership agreements were at any and every one of us can go on the SBA’s website and take a look here and you’ll see the actual partnership agreements, there’s 50 of them in place.

Right now, with most of the agencies that you guys learn to know and trust, and like probably the ones that don’t have partnership agreements are the ones that are outside of the continental United States, but the department, defense, Interior and again most of the agencies that we All do business with have established partnership agreements in place with the SBA on how to govern the actual 8a program and if they do not happen to have a partnership agreement place, don’t worry because they have two flaws.

They follow chapters CFR 124 dot 508 and the far 19:08 they’re good to go. This is an example of what that partnership agreement looks like here’s, the one between the SBA and the agency for international development and again it just states the small business act that they developed this 8a business program and how it works. And again, the rules govern the program, the do’s and don’ts, and what the agencies should be doing in order to enact an actual 8a contract so again how this works.

The gist for everyone is. The SBA has an agreement with the entities and that agreement governs the rules and then you, as the 8, a firm has been certified by the brain. So remember, in order to get any you’ve got to be approved by the SBA, so technically you’re on the under the umbrella of the SBA. So again all certified 8 a firms fall under the auspices of the SBA. So now what happens is the actual contract doesn’t take place between the entity and the 8, a firm it takes place between the entity and the SBA, and then you being one of their firms, then the SBA will then in turn, give you the contract, we’re going To explain how all this works towards the end of the article all right, but just so you know the dynamics.

The contract doesn’t go directly from the ad firm to the entity. It goes. The SBA is an intermediary between the two of you right so between the entity and the a the SBA is the actual intermediary so Eric. Why does this whole anything? How did it come about? I don’t really know the history of the 8a program itself, but what I do know about the 8a program and the benefits of it is a couple things. One is it’s a quicker way to procure projects to get them done and then, at the same time help I had some sort of economic impact to small businesses and upstart firms.

So the program serves twofold right, so it allows for an expedited manner in which agencies can do business, get their products accomplished, but at the same time satisfy a bigger requirement, which is to help involve small business Farms. Help put money back into the communities, help with a little start. Businesses who we know are the backbone of America. So, as you see here on the chart, the actual SBA, the agency and the 8, a firm together they’ll, put together, what’s called sole source or negotiated projects for that 8a entity, and then that allows them to bypass the traditional bid procedures that you see on the Right-Hand side of the screen, which is at first, they got to do market research.

So, whenever they’re going to do a traditional bid, they’re going to do market research that market research involves trying to determine whether or not a particular solicitation should be set aside for small businesses right. So they do initial market research, which that could take 3045 days. Then they’ll put out a pre-solicitation advertising, a solicitation is coming down the pipeline and then they’ll actually issue the formal solicitation and, during the formal solicitation they’ll out a window of time for bidding that questions site visits, things of that nature and then for the bids or Accepted then they have time to do what’s called a bid review and then there’s a lotta Beltaine for a protest right.

So, against someone has a concern or question regarding how the bid went that allows time for a protest and, if, depending upon how complicated the actual solicitation is the the request for Proposal the work of scope, it may require presentations depending upon how many people participate. There may be a set of negotiations and then finally, the selection process, and so, as you can see here, the amount of time that it takes to do all of this and from what I’ve heard.

The estimates could be up to nine months and timeframe, whereas on the 8a side, if they do a sole source, a negotiated type of solicitation acquisition, then you’re talking about six months or less so again, the amount of time that’s saved and also another key factor. Is you see those dots in the middle? I intentionally drew them because if you are the person on the government side right and you’re responsible for giving out contracts, you don’t know the quality of the people that you’re receiving bids from so you’re going to have some good ones, which I haven’t green you’re.

Going to have a couple bad ones in red, and then you have some, you know some ones, an average and yellow. So you’ve got to go through and assess all that and make the correct determination and that’s not an easy task for anyone to do so again. The traditional print procedures first is the acquisition selection when using 8 a firms. Now, how does this all work, or how do we make this happen? So again, let’s go back to the initial slide.

Well, first, we have the agency and typically an agency will set out what the requirements are, and then we have the 8 a firm right which your ADA is a bit firm. You have your existing capabilities. So now the procurement Center representative is the person that was tasked on behalf of SBA to carry out their policies and their procedures. So the PC, our person, is the point guy or girl that helps carry out the policies procedures to ensure that the a firm’s capabilities match up with an agency’s requirements and then that’s how we put together a particular contract action.

So there’s three ways in which they do that we’re going to go over the three ways today and how they select actions. If anyone has any questions or want to double check behind what we’re talking about today, you can go to subpart 19.8 o3 select an exercise for a day program. I just made it visual and I’m going over it today in a way that I think, makes a little bit easier to understand for the majority of people out there, because I myself, I like to see little pictures and diagrams and slides so rather than just reading.

Just blank text, so hopefully we can get some add some clarity to the process for you guys out there. So the first way in which we handle the acquisitions. It’s what’s called a search letter you’ll see here. It says the SBA advises contracting activity of any participant capabilities through, what’s called a search letter, a search letter. Basically, what it is is a search letter comes from the SBA to a procuring entity, slash agency right and what this says is.

There’s a request letter sent from the procurement officer of the SBA for an eight on behalf of an eight a participant to reserve a requirement that matches that participants qualifications, so we’re going to say to them. Okay, we have this 8a from over here, and so we have this person’s qualifications. This is his list of his or her list of qualifications, and so we want. We know that your particular agency buys these products and services, so we just want to find out if there’s an opportunity available for this particular eight a firm, and it’s it’s really as simple as that.

Now, when did you actually request a search letter and then how do you request a search letter, so one of the things that I’m telling all the companies that I represent, that are part of my program in my courses and things like that, my clients is first, You go out and you want to try to find out an opportunity as early as possible in the pipeline right. So the earlier you find out about opportunity, the better it is, the higher your chances of successfully having it set aside to be and a day particular in a set-aside of a day procurement so again, as early as possible in the process that you’re aware of something The better it is to initiate setting out a search letter, so the earliest possible that we know that’s on paper.

Right is a forecast list. So again, most agencies put out a forecast list. You have the ability to go through and look at what’s coming up in the next two or three four or five years, and at that point you can request for the SBA to send out a search letter on your behalf. We’ll talk about that coming up sources. Thoughts are great places also to identify future opportunities that are coming on the pipeline.

It’s also the same token, where the government is using to do market research anyway. So there are a lot of times they’re trying to determine whether or not this should be set aside for a day or HUBZone, service-disabled veteran-owned and then a pre-solicitation, it’s still not too late, because it has not turned into a formal solicitation. There still is an opportunity to have that set aside as 8a.

It’s less likely to happen, but it’s not impossible. So again, these are three stages: finding out about upcoming opportunities, where it’s appropriate to have a request. A search letter be sent out. How do we do that? So what we do is we the entity right, so we me I’m the 8 a firm right, and so I look at what agency has this particular opportunity? What’s the information I have about the project coming up and what capabilities or experiences do I have that align with those particular requirements? I send that to my SBA, rep and I say hi you know, is it possible that you can send a search letter on my behalf to for this particular opportunity? The SBA rep then in turn, writes up a search letter sends it along with your capabilities over to that agency on your behalf, and that’s it right so a lot of times the stuff that you, this happening is happening in the background.

So you never actually really see it, but you have to first initiate a search letter and it referred to happen they’re not going to do it for you without you requesting it so again, try and get in as early in the process as possible too. So that way, it gives the particular agency the procurement entity, time to analyze what the requirements are, how the goals are aligned and see whether or not this is a possible potential opportunity set aside and the 8a business program all right.

This is an example of what a search letter looks like this is an old one that I have because again, like I said a lot of times, the search letters you don’t really, you don’t receive them and your SBA guy doesn’t necessarily send them to you. So it’s something to request they sent in to the entity and you never really see it. You can’t request them to send it to you but oftentimes again. This is something that’s done between the SBA and the agency and you’re not really perfect to the information, but I was able to find an old one just to give you guys a rundown, an idea of what this looks like, so you can see a real-life example.

This one was sent to mr. Spadaro since US Small Business Administration is requesting assistance and the identification of potential procurement opportunities for award on the provisions of the section. Eight, a small business act, 637 a opportunity sought for and again it lists. You know they’re going to put your company name and address. It has come to our attention that your agency has a pending procurement opportunity for this particular regional contracts, we’d like to introduce you to the name owner the name title company.

There were services able veteran from there 8 a firm HUBZone they’ve, had a successful government experience, and then it says on third paragraph with the SBA signed an agreement with Department of Defense for a opportunities. This contract opportunities request is made pursuant to the s section 8. A small business act identify the requirements again listing to approve business plan of the company city and state and within the 8, a business development program.

So you can see the letters B, referencing laws and acts and charters and agreements that they have between the two entities. The government entities and just putting forth the fact that okay, we’ve got this rules between us. This is a company that we want you to consider for an opportunity, no guarantees, but it’s letting them putting you in the peripheral vision of that particular agency. Right number, two way in which to source acquisitions is what’s called a requirements letter.

So the SP identifies a specific requirement for one or more 80 participants and it sends over a requirements letter to the agency’s office of small business dispensed utilization. And so what happens is in the requirement letter? What they do is this is more of instead of like one to one. This is one too many, so they say: okay, you guys have all these bundled contracts. We want a piece to go to the eight, a business development program.

We set up a requirement letter saying we want you to give a piece of these recurrent contracts and to the 8a program so that we can have companies in our portfolio 8. A firms participate in those particular activities. This is great specifically when it’s like recurring contracts, because once you’re able to get a recurring contract vehicle into the 8a program, it’s really difficult to get it out of the program.

There’s specific laws that govern how to remove something that is in the 8a program outside of that. So, if you have let’s say, for example, I had one of my students who’s in my pilot program and he sent over his informations to the DLA. The DLA asked him because they actually provide you know products to the government. Dla says: okay, we have a list of products and they’re innocent numbers that are already set aside for the 8a program.

However, if you have additional products that you sell, that NSN numbers that your particular company who’s, an eighth a certified provides, we will be willing to consider putting those additional NSN numbers on the a date. And so this is a good way of showing you that it’s not necessarily set aside for one particular eight a firm, but what it is is they’re going to put those requirements inside the pool of eight a contractor’s allowing it.

So now it’s only 8 a firm’s within that group that can actually participate. Those opportunities, great news, because again, if you have 8 a this, is music to your ears. You want to try and get as many potential opportunities put into the 8a pool so that you’re not competing when against. You know every Tom, Dick and Harry right. So if there is, for example, anything coming down a pipeline that may benefit the group as a whole.

This is where a requirements letter will come into play: number three market research, so the agencies may also on their own review, other proposed acquisitions for the purposes of identifier requirements which may be offered to the SBA. Where is the agencies either independently or through self marketing efforts of the any participant identify requirement for the program? So the way that I see this is there’s two ways and right now it’s commonly happening because you know you’ll see agencies that already have a day set aside so they’ve already say: okay, look! We’re already doing these XYZ 8a set asides, so the agency that’s one way.

The other thing is the agency itself is saying. Okay, we’ve got some upcoming stuff. We got some stuff coming out of pipeline and, like we showed you before, when they do the market research, they sit down the source of sought notice. How many 8 a firm’s out here, can do this project right. So now they’re doing market research saying okay, how many 88 firms could do the project? And if we get a favorable response with the appropriate capabilities, then we can set it aside a day.

So that’s another way. The other way is that you, the 8, a firm and I’ve done this. In my own personal experience, I was on a project and we were working and then someone and one of the commanders officer asked us. Could I take a look at their building to see it had mold in it, and so we took some samples sent it back to a lab tested and we determined that there was mold in that particular building.

They asked us to do a write-up for them. What it would take to to redo the mold to eliminate it and read through the walls and things like that, so it was more of an unsolicited proposal. We submitted that to them and because it was mold and it was time-sensitive, urgent, critical and we were the ones that had already done the analysis. They went ahead and converted that unsolicited proposal into an a a particular action.

So that was an example of how we took so you know, just by being on site being present being around. We were in and also being the ones who were actually doing the construction on site. You know they were able to convert that into an ad opportunity for us. So again, if you are looking down the pipeline, you’re saying forecasts list stuff, you’re talking about the requirements you’re meeting with the engineers, and you have a way in which you can help them meet or exceed those requirements.

You have some ideas about how to get that done. Those proposed solutions can be converted into opportunities to put into the 8a program. There’s an example here of where the actual government themselves were seeking out qualified 8 a firms to meet their missions to do business with. So it’s said that in this case this was a DLA and they were saying: hey, listen. We are looking for qualified 18 firms to meet our missions.

Work to do business with. Please see the attached information to see if any of your firms meet the criteria that we can do business with, and so they set this out. The procurement entity sent it to the SBA to sit out to the firms in that particular region, so that thought that that was great market research. Now, let’s assume that we, you know, we know the three ways in which they do that. So what’s the next step? Well, after the entity themselves, right they’ve done their evaluations, I’ve done analysis and he said: okay, whether through the requirements letter, whether through the search letter or through their own market research, they said.

Okay, we want to work with your company right. So, what’s the next step it happens, so the next step is what they do is call an offering letter. So the procurement entity, slash agency, we’ll send to the SBA, what’s called an offering letter and then what it says is: okay, the contract office shall notify the SBA to the extent of its plans to place an 8a contract with the SBA for specific quantities.

Items of work I mean it’s called an offering letter. Here’s an example of an offering letter. Again, the government agency is sending this to the SBA, so it says to SBA this requirement, it’s being processed under our partnership agreement, you keep hearing those words partnership agreement in place right. Those things are critical to know so. Remember I always tell everyone in order to be an expert or considered I’d say an expert in order to be considered proficient knowledgeable in this place must use the lingo.

So again, I would you know if you don’t use the lingual and you’re not talking about these types of things. Then it’s very easy for someone to look past. Your look beyond you as oh, so you don’t have any idea or understanding of how any of this stuff comes together. But if you start using the same vocabulary as the government entities, they’re going to have to respect you and they’re going to have to start acting and the best interest of your behalf so again learn this to understand the lingo.

But it says here the requirements being processed under a partnership agreement between the SBA and DOD under which for cereal changes. The aid process been made. The Air Force Reserve contracting officer will solicit proposal whole discussion to make contact work directly to the 8, a firm pursuant to the procedures they’re offering this requirement to the ATA country program as a sole source set aside, and then it tells you what the scope of Work is and therefore so, that’s an offering letter so now they made the offering letter and so the SBA upon receipt of the contracting officers letter.

The SBA must determine whether or not they want to accept the requirement and to the 8a program they have, and then they have to only ten days to do so now. I know what you’re thinking and I thought the same thing and say well, but why would they not accept something to the program? I don’t have any good basis for agreement why they would not own unless okay. So let me retract that statement, there’s a couple reasons why they may not accept the letter from what I understand from talking with people within the SBA.

Let’s say your company exceeded the size stay in it right so now your company has grown to this much for his company and people. Clapping officers still trying to give you projects. That may be a reason why they won’t accept. You number two. Let’s say that your company failed to do their annual requirements, so you forget, failed to update your taxes or fail to do an a report, and so now, even though you’re with an 8a program, all of your information is not updated.

That might be a reason why they fail to accept the letter on your behalf and then the other reason. Maybe maybe your company, they don’t have the necessary experience or expertise in order to do that. So maybe you’ve failed at some other projects that you at the government. Sb is aware of that. This particular agency may not be aware of so maybe you’ve had poor performance of other similar type jobs of size and scale, and so the SBA to protect their inches will not accept on your behalf, so, but assuming that none of those three things hold true.

The SBA is more than likely going to send out, what’s called an acceptance letter on your behalf, accepting this particular solicitation project be entered into the eight a business program for you all right now. This is what an acceptance letter looks like, so it says: okay, this letter is a serve as acceptance of the offer submitted by your agency on September 9th, in accordance with the AAA small business Act, and if I like resistant regulation, Vic’s hated partnership agreement between us Small business and the Department of Air Force hereby accepts your offer for the requirement and it lists the requirement on behalf at listed companies name.

It says the dollar value that max killed the size standard. We’ve conducted an analysis of the requirement with the provisions and we don’t see any adverse impact. The results that analysis is real, that no small bits performing a crime for at least 24 months, and it tells you some other rules, things like that that they must comply with all right and so congratulations. You’ve won your contract, but wait Eric what if my 8a rep doesn’t know what to do well, the reason why we have you know I’m put up these articles.

The reason why there’s books on this stuff there’s reason why there’s rules on how this stuff, if, in my opinion, if you’re a a rep, doesn’t know what to do or you’ve never heard of this stuff before it would behoove you to take it upon yourself to Try and learn it right, so go back, REE, read the article and try and learn how to do this stuff. Here’s a couple things that I can suggest that may help you out in your endeavors of trying to learn and crassus information for your own benefit right.

So procurement center reps remember. We talked about that earlier on the article, that’s in subpart 19.4 cooperation with small busted ministration. It discusses their roles and responsibilities, but also states that if you have a procurement center of rep, that’s not doing his or her job that they can be replaced that you can go above that person’s head. It’s only two pages in one paragraph long.

So really, I think that anyone who has a date should absolutely read it and try and digest these two pages in one paragraph. The second suggestion I have is: what governs the 8a program, how it works is subpart 19.8 contracting Small Business Administration 8a program. It’s 11 pages, but really the first four is all the meat potatoes and it talks about general and how this begins administer and also about the selection acquisition that we just went over in today’s article and then a couple recommendations before I let you go today become Friends with the ESPE staff, I just finished doing a podcast interview with one of the recent 2016 and 2017 NASA Award winners.

Also 2016 SBA Award winner, and let me tell you, the SBA was her best friend the SBA for all of its faults, criticism and comments. They are really good people they’re, just really busy they’re understaffed and probably underpaid more than likely so again. But if you show interest and you participate and you’re out there doing things, let them know send your SBA rep an email to let them know what you’re doing letting updates.

If you went out met with an agency, let them knows who you met with, who you spoke with, you know, give them what kind of what’s going on show interest and they were so interest in you. Another recommendation make connection with a few agencies. I know we want to go out there and want to do business with everybody. We want to do all services, but stick with just a few agencies get to know them be where they’re at go where they go participate in their events volunteer if you’ve got to but again make connections with a few agencies become friends which are SBA staff and Then stay interested, it’s very easy to become discouraged.

I know the feeling again, you know when we had a day we didn’t have anyone to show us. The ropes we’d have one to help us, but I do remember one time when I was at the airport and the diversities rep from this large major contractor. He told us he said: listen, you know what happens, is we’ll bring people in, but do the whole dog-and-pony show right. They’ll. Take you around show you all these money all these contracts and then you won’t, nothing will happen and you won’t hear from anyone and then a lot of us.

What we’ll do is we’ll say: well, this thing doesn’t work and then we’ll give up and it’s those persons who stay interested, who stayed coming back, who stay inquisitive and ask ok, listen. You know, I came here last time and nothing had happened. I came here again. Nothing happened. You told me to follow these steps. You told me to do these activities. I did those things I increased. My bonding. I increased my credit line.

I increase. You know I built my team, you know what do you guys didn’t give me a shot? It’s those people who stay interested and are persistent they’re going to win and the long-term, and so with that set. I want to say to you guys, happy 8a. I hope this article helped some people out there. I hope that I was able to explain the process. A little bit add some clarity to it. I know it’s probably confusing if you’ve never seen it before so maybe it’ll go back and read it a couple times.

Hopefully in the future. I can add, maybe some more examples, some more slides. We can talk about this and have some further discussions about the a day, but at the very least, you’ve got a huge macro, little perspective on the a program and how it works so that you can now take that back to your office to your team and Start implementing some of these steps that we talked about. Ok, listen, hey! As always thanks for reading, hey guys, thanks for reading that article on eight listen.

I know the 8a program. I’ve been part of the 8a program for the last 12 years and it’s not a simple program to use, but it’s very valuable. It can be instrumental and now people’s success growing from zero to millions of dollars in revenue. So again it’s a fabulous program. You just have to learn how to use it, how to work it, and, unfortunately, the government doesn’t have funding to teach us how to take advantage of all the benefits of the program.

But hopefully, today with this article that will help some people further their journey and we’re going to have some upcoming articles about 8a coming down the pipeline. As always, if there’s anything that you want to hear about, you want to see, let me know send comments below and with that said, I’m going to go back on and we’re going to tell you big hat no Cal I’ll, see you next time.

Starting a business is not easy! Think about who will be working on your digital image. Hiring a good webmaster will help!

How to improve your editing with Synology DS1618+ NAS

The one I’ll be using is the Synology des 1618 plus, and this is a six faintness meaning it can hold six hard drives now. An ass is basically like a self-contained computer that you connect directly to your network router, so you can access it 24 hours a day from any of your network devices.

But even while you are away using the internet connection, I did a review of a couple network drives before that. I used as backup on me and since they were not fast or powerful enough to be used for everyday article. Editing at this new network drive is great for backing up your files, because it’s easy to set up automatic backups using sinologist DiskStation manager, which is their web interface.

As you can see, it looks like a Windows or apple desktop where you can install apps check your settings even browse copy upload or modify all of your files. You have on the NAS from anywhere in the world using Internet interface. What I did not expect was that this nas is fast enough to also be used as my Flex driver, and they even have an app that which makes setting up plex super easy. Now, more importantly, I can use this Nass as my main working Drive in my home studio setup, so that two or more people can access the same project and work on it at the same time in the Vinci resolve.

This is very easy to do because you can set up a project database on this analogy, nas, which allows multi-user collaboration if you’ve never done this inside of resolve. But you, let’s say I’d like to have multiple people work on a project. At the same time, then, this is really a game changer, basically in resolve by default. You create a project in your local database that is saved on your computer.

What some people don’t know is that you can also create a shared database and place it on a network attached computer or even better, on an ass like the one that I’m using at this way. Anyone on your network can open the same project and work on them. At the same time, everything in the project is saved in real time as different users work on the project in the bottom right corner of the screen. You create your username and, as you start editing a timeline that timeline gets automatically locked so that another editor.

I can view your work, but can’t change it while you’re in the middle of editing. You can, however, have another user do color grading, while you edit and vice-versa, I sometimes just duplicate a timeline and I’ll work on a section. While another editor works on the duplicate timeline on another section, then once we are done, we can compare the two timelines in resolve where it will automatically show you the differences between the two.

You can preview the changes and, if you like it, you can accept it. So resolve can again automatically adjust your edit. The best way to set up a database that will work with DaVinci Resolve is to do it on an AZ Drive. If you’ve never done this, then there is already a great tutorial by Sandra groaners. That shows you step-by-step. How to do this, to read this article tutorial and to read the in-depth tutorial by Sandra just follow my link in the description.

If you want to learn about all the cool features of multi-user collaboration in DaVinci Resolve and then I will also provide a link to a article that explains it all and now award from our sponsor Video Converter. Ultimate is a easy and fast way to convert your article files from one format to another. You can also use it to download compress edit and burn articles in a thousand different formats.

Plus you can do a whole bunch of other things here. I’m going to show you how easy it is to convert an MOV file to mp4, so here I’m going to just click to add a article file that I want to convert and, as you can see right away, it just shows you. You know information about the article file. It does a whole bunch of easy presets that are commonly used. I’m just going to leave it here. A default just want to change it to an mp4, the same resolution and that’s it just click convert all and read it.

Do its magic and once it’s finished, going through all the files you’re going to have a little your success, checkmark and here’s the final shot here, not the most exciting but yeah. It just shows you, for example, and the conversion that it did and it did a really good job. Like I said original resolution, there’s not much of a difference in quality, but a big. You know drastic change in the file size as well.

Anyways, if you guys, are interested, give this a try once again, it’s wondershare Video Converter. Ultimate, you want to get at the full license it’s 3995 or if you want, you can buy the lifetime license. I think it just makes more sense. 20. Bucks extra for $ 59 anyways – let’s continue with our article. So let’s take a look at the speed of the Synology NAS drive it’s advertised as Gigabit Ethernet speed per port.

Now, there’s actually four Ethernet ports on the bag. The extra Ethernet ports can be used to get faster speeds for reading and writing using link aggregation for my set up, I’m just using the one port which gives me 1,000 megabits per second or a hundred twenty-five megabytes per second speeds. Now, as you can see, this is pretty much what I’ve been averaging. This means that not only can I use this drive for backup, but also, as my main working drive here, you can see.

We play back from the NAS drive a 4k article file. That is in RAW cinema PNG format. It plays back at 24 frames per second without losing frames and now here’s another file. That is also R a article file from the Red Dragon camera in UHD, 4k and again, as you can see, it also plays back great now, when I edit, with an assistant on another computer. We can both access the same files on this knowledge enas and play them back in real time unless these are both 4k raw files.

In that case, the network itself will simply not handle that kind of data rate. In my tests, I noticed that when editing just your typical kind of compressed 4k articles from mirrorless cameras, then two or even three people can work over their network no problem. Now for anything more demanding. I would suggest you actually upgrade your whole network to the faster speeds using a 10 gigabit network.

Now this Synology nas can also be upgraded because it has a PCI Express expansion port that will allow you to add a 10 gigabit ethernet card, or also you can put in there a dual m2 SATA SSD card for faster system. Caching, in terms of storage, this Nass can accept six drives inside up to 12 terabytes per Drive. This will allow you to have 72 terabytes of space. Now you could, of course, set up those multiple drives in various rate configurations, and this would allow you to have better backup redundancy by mirroring data across or in raid 6, for example, you can mirror two three drives.

This will obviously lower your overall storage, but in return, even if let’s say two drives failed, you can still replace those drives without losing any data. If you need even more harddrive space, then you can expand this Nass up to 192 terabytes. You can do that by connecting a five drive expansion unit on each of the two eSATA ports on the back and now this will give you ten extra drives together with the six drives in front of the unit, and that means you can connect up to sixteen Drives all together in the back.

You also find two USB ports plus on the right is the access to the PCI Express expansion slot? There is another USB port on the front as well, using the USB ports. You can copy data directly from USB devices to your nas without having to go through your network, just install the USB copy application in the DiskStation manager and then connect your drive. You can also get a second Synology nas and store it.

Let’s say at a different location like a friend’s house ER or another studio and use sinologist cloud station sync to create your own personal cloud. Synology also has its own cloud service called c2. Now the DiskStation manager lets you set rate. Manage storage check health of disks. Here you can install additional applications through the package center to tailor the NASS to your needs. For example, the Quick Connect allows you to connect your to your nas.

Using their internet moments is another application, which is a photo and article organization program. Image recognition identifies people, subjects and places making searching your photos easier, and our surveillance station makes it easy to set up a home security system where all of your IP cameras can automatically stream and record to your Nats. There is even more things that you can do using the Synology nas that I won’t even attempt to get a get into in this article, like I said before, and as is sort of like a computer that is designed to efficiently upload and download data across the Network and it has to be able to always stay on and do all of the UITs tasks without using too much power or making too much noise.

Now the fans on the back of this Nats are powerful, yet quiet. This system has a 2.1 gigahertz Intel Atom. Quad-Core, processor and 4 gigabytes of did. We are for RAM, which can actually be expanded up to 32 gigabytes. So if you’re editing articles, especially using DaVinci, Resolve and want a centralized place where you keep all of your data and also that multiple people can edit the same project at the same time, then look into getting a network attached storage device.

Like this analogy, DiskStation des 1618, plus by the way, I’m also now hosting a different filmmaking workshops and doing one-on-one coaching with kids split. So if you want to learn cinematography directing or advanced color grading then sign up for a workshop at kit. Split that come slash. Workshops, if you enjoyed this article, then give it a thumbs up and as always, you can find more info on my website where you can also sign up to my newsletter.

So this way you can stay up to date on the latest filmmaking use, gear reviews and tutorials. Thanks and I’ll see you guys in the next article

Best Sales Advice I Ever Received

So I got a real estate when I was 20 years old. It was 2002 and I was just very, very young. I just gotten out of doing roofing with my father. Actually I was still roofing with my father, because when I got my real estate license, I thought I’m done with that. I’m done roofing.

Now I’m just going to do real estate, so I quit roofing. I did real estate for 30 days, didn’t sell anything of course, and had to go back to roofing and do real estate part-time. So it took me eight months, eight long months to make my first sale and as a 20 year old you know. Eight months is a really long time, especially when you really want something I mean think about it: eight months as a 20 year old wanting to not be roofing and and instead to sell real estate for a living, it was a dream at that point, it was Something that I really there was not a plan B.

There was not a second option. I was going to make it work, but at the same time the pace that I was moving towards that goal at was so slow that almost seemed impossible. They really did. I knew that it was going to happen, but it still seemed so far away during that eight months I just was like. When is this going to happen? When is this going to breakthrough, but I knew that I wasn’t going to stop.

I knew that it was going to be a lot of hard work and I knew that I was going to continue to push through until I made it happen. So that’s what I did. I continue to push through, so my first broker in Gulf Shores Alabama. You know I was the kind of guy I was trying to be a sponge. I was just trying to learn from anyone that would tell me anything. I talked to all the agents at the office asking questions.

You know, how do you do this? How do you do that? What to say here what to do here? How did you do that? You know some of the agents will come in with really big listings to me back then, you know, 350,000 was a big listing and agents would come in with four and five hundred thousand dollar listings, and I would ask them you know: how did you get how In the world, did you do that? You know it just seems so crazy to me at the time, because I was just pounding away and just nothing was happening for me, so I had to just keep on going keep on trying to figure it out.

So at some point I realized that I could look up people’s phone numbers and start calling people okay, I started I turned into a phone call making machine. We actually called it phone call: festivals, yeah. I actually made the name phone call fest, where me, and maybe two or three other agents in the office that were also newer. We would get together in this room like a boiler room kind of situation, and we would just make calls all day call it a phone call fest, you know it made it sound fun.

We’d get in. There would make the calls we laugh. I remember the first time I used the line whenever a seller told me that they would never sell that they were just going to just keep it forever. They were going to die there. I forget what they said, but I responded and – and I said, okay you’re just going to keep it till the building crumbles, and I remember that everybody in that room laughed and laughed and laughed and left.

We had a lot of good times back then just laughs and cutting up having fun and that’s what it’s supposed to be like. It’s supposed to be fun when we do this, but the best advice that ever got was from my broker, because he saw that I was putting in all this work and he saw that. I was really trying and I went through these periods of time that I just became very just not. I was just you know frustrated, I guess you could say I just wasn’t you know.

Was it all the way in it? You know I was just kind of not depressed, but I was just feeling down. You know just just wondering why I can’t you know: do all these cells that all these other agents are doing in the office and my broker saw that I was a very hard worker and that I was moving in the right direction and he came to me And he gave me the best advice that I’ve ever gotten and I still think about it to this day, and so he sat me down.

We had a long conversation and he was asking me about you know what I was doing where I think I was having trouble and you know what what he could do to help me and at some point the conversation. I told him that you know just everybody’s telling me no everybody’s telling me no, no, no, no, no and I’ll tell you why. I think everyone was telling me no here in a minute, but that’s when he looked at me square in the eye, and he said you know what Ricky and here’s the advice he said, no doesn’t mean.

No, it means not right now, no doesn’t mean no, it means not right now and it was like a light bulb went off in my head and I was like wait a minute. You know all these people that are telling me no aren’t necessarily telling me no they’re just saying that they’re not interested right now in doing anything, and so, as I started to think back through all my conversations with prospects and how they said.

No and all this, and all that I started to also realize that the reason that they were telling me no, they tried to get off the phone really quickly or or what-have-you wasn’t because they may not been interested in doing a deal huh. They might have been interested in doing a deal right. Then it was the fact that my inexperience, in my lack of communication skills up to that point, didn’t put me in a position where I could make them feel comfortable with me and connect with them and communicate that I’m here to help you you know what can I do to help you, and so that was the very first step for me towards the relationships over transactions mentality that I have now that’s got me where I am that was.

That was the first moment the when I realized you know something about relationships now, as the story goes on. Of course, you know my rise and fall happened and the fall was because I was focused more on the deal, so I wasn’t 100 sent all in with the people the relationships. What can I do to help you? It was more about you know. Do you want to buy or sell, and during that time in the market it was so easy.

You just say: hey do you want to sell because your property is worth a hundred more thousand than it was last year, and so it was very easy. Everybody wanted to sell so the scripts back, then we’re totally different and you could get away with it because everybody stood to make fifty a hundred one hundred fifty two hundred thousand four hundred thousand you know. So there was so much equity that that that was built up so fast during that period of time that you didn’t really have to twist anybody’s arm.

You know to sell the property to make so much money, so that’s kind of how I got caught into that. You know transactions closings, you know, let’s just do the deal, do you want to buy? Do you want to sell and that ended up being the downfall for me, because I was so caught up in the deals, and I wasn’t even paying attention to the fact that there was a real human on the other side that that I could create a relationship With that would turn into repeat business referrals and referrals or referrals.

So when I lost everything he came back, you guys know the story. I came back and built my business on people not deals, and now I’m to the point where I am now where I can continuously consistently do those hundred deals a year as a single agent. Now, when I came back after working on the oil rig and roofing houses, losing everything came back in the business in 2008. That’s really when I started to realize what, when Berger, was telling me about that when a prospect tells you know, it doesn’t mean: no, it just means not right now and if you have that mentality when you’re talking to your prospects – and you realize you know that, There’s a possibility that this person could do business with you in the future.

They may want to do business with you in the future. They may love you. They may really like you. They may really want to get to know you more to see if there’s even a fit to do business in the future they’re, just not ready right now to do anything when you look at it like that, then so many doors open up when you’re making your Calls your going through your business and you’re following up and you just you’re thinking more about the people and what you could do to help them and and how everything’s going to play out long-term.

Now I did get a comment on the Facebook group. There was a post actually of a young lady who said you know, I’m making all these calls I’m spending money on on the dialer and all this, and you know I have people that tell me that they want to do something in a couple years. But how does that pay my bills right now, and so I’m going to link a article below that? I did about closed deals now. Okay, so you can go there and read that, but the moral of the story is: is that number one? I don’t think this agent has made enough calls to even collect enough data to judge the situation number one, but number two.

You have to understand what I’m saying in terms of okay, there’s going to be people that want to do deals later, two years down the road next month, six months, that’s going to be a paycheck later on; okay. That doesn’t help us right now. However, when we’re doing we’re supposed to do when we have faith in the process and when no closings happen every day and we’re talking to enough people we’re going to find the people that want to do deals today, don’t just think that making the calls is only Going to get you future business, it’s going to get you right now, business as well, and now you’re building your business for now to pay your bills and the future to build your wealth all at the same time.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what my philosophies and my coaching program is all about. If you’re new to my blog and you’re, not part of the zero diamond real estate coaching program, it’s completely free, it’s the first completely free real estate, coaching program on the face of the planet, there’s over 20,000 agents enrolled, and so many of them are crushing it And they’re doing this free of charge and all I’m doing is just advising you on how I built my business over the last 17 years.

I’m sharing that with you for nothing and then you guys can take it and go do what you want with it and so many agents so many agents. I have an agent in Texas who found me in November and he’s closed a million a month closed a million a month this year, every month, okay, amazing, I have another in Mississippi first year, real estate, for he just finished his first year in real estate closed A hundred and six deals following my program, so there’s definitely a lot of success stories.

Thank you guys. So much for continuing to grind continue to push continuing to message me right and tell me how it’s working for you and questions. I answer. Every single deal, mine, Instagram, so definitely hit me up there. Let me know what in the world I can do for you guys, comment below. Let me know what articles you want me to make and we’ll see you guys on the next one: let’s go

My 2020 Medical Planner | Erin Condren Softbound Focused Collection

This is what I have chosen for 2020, as some of you know that read my vlogs or maybe follow me on Instagram there’s a link below. If you want to follow me on Instagram, I have been having some major health problems in 2019 and unfortunately, they are going to trickle over into 2024, probably the entire year anyway.

That being said, I’m, like you, know what I need to get my life organized and have a planner that’s dedicated just to my health. I do use on a daily basis, just the regular, like Erin Condren binder, and I do put my health appointments in here. Here’s my current week right now and I actually have a doctor’s appointment on the 26th but um I need somewhere to put and log everything and something easy and portable to take with me.

When I have these appointments, I do use an Erin Condren planner tote bag. As my daily purse um – and this fits really well in it – I do use currently the black one and it’s the smaller Erin Condren tote bag. I really really like it so anyways I decided to go with. This is called the focused planner and it is in the Navy soft bound. It’s an a5 size. You can decide if you want to get it embossed or not.

I believe there is a chart, I think it’s five or ten dollars. I did get it embossed with my initials, so it’s e j.G. Those are my initials and yeah. I’ve already set this up. I just wanted to walk through it with you, so I could show you kind of how I’m using it I’m sure it’ll keep being modified as we go so anyways. Let’s, let’s get going here, I actually have some test results that I need to bring to my first appointment on the 26th, so I just have that in here, so I can give that to my physician in the new department so anyways I haven’t my name on There I should do that and then the next page is 2020.

I haven’t put anything in here yet, but whatever so, you guys are going to see like names of my doctors, so like don’t be super creepy and like stop them. Okay, okay on this page, it has the holidays and then, like special dates, I haven’t decided what I want to do with this. I mean clearly some months, I’m going to have a ton of appointments and some months I might have none. I don’t know so. I’m just going to kind of like leave it as it is, so we are almost in January, so we are in December.

Currently, it is Christmas Eve actually right now, when I’m filming this, but on the 26th I have an appointment, it’s 7:50 at the Fridley clinic, and I have like my first consultation and a little bit about my medical background as to like what is going on this Early fall, they found out that I had a hiatal hernia and what that is, is it’s basically a hole that is in your body and it’s when your stomach and esophagus meet up, so the only way to actually fix that is with surgery.

There are some dietary things that you can do to help it out. However, those have not worked for me. I’ve been on a plethora of medications and more medications because of that, and I met with the surgeon that does regular hiatal hernia surgeries and because I’m not fully responding to the oral medications. I am no longer a candidate for the regular surgery. She then suggested the only way to actually fix it, in my specific case would be a bariatric surgery and for anyone that doesn’t know what bariatric surgery is, it’s a weight loss surgery.

They basically reroute your stomach, and I have had so many stomach issues for several years. It’s just been really bad, this past 2019 and finally did something about it. So I’ve probably had the hernia for quite a while and just been living very uncomfortably. I can’t sleep well, I have crazy, lucid, like weird dreams, because of all the medications I’m taking, because I’m taking all the medications, I tend to get more migraines, which is a whole nother issue.

So anyway, there’s like a lot going on so anyways. This is basically going to be now my weight-loss journey. Slash get my tummy write book, plus any other like doctor’s appointments. I have to deal with so as of right now. My insurance has not approved the surgery. However, my surgeon and my general practitioner doctor are putting or have put in a request for them to cover it because they would have covered my normal hiatal hernia hiatal hernia surgery anyways.

So it’s going to take probably a month or so for us to hear anything and then they’ll probably end up doing another submittal as well before it gets approved so anyways. Now you know way too much about my health, okay, so um like I said I have my first appointment on the 26th, so I figured I’d put it in here just because like why not and then I also have an appointment with a dietician. Her name is Janelle on the 16th, so these kind of go like hand in hand.

I can’t do anything with the surgery team yet, but I will be able to do some stuff with a surgery team once it gets approved through insurance, but I have to do this anyways, so I figured well. Let’s get the party started and I did call my insurance and they do cover this so anywho. I also have these really cute stickers that I got a while ago. I want to say they’re from planner bunny press or bunny planner press.

Something like that. I will link them down below, but it’s like these little trifold scales, so I figured I would like weigh myself every weekend or you know like just once a week and then put it in there, so I would have a record of it just to share with My physicians also, I got these little stickers um. You can’t see very well probably but they’re clear, adhesive and they’re for Erin Condren, and this one says January, and it says January, on the other side as well and then also on the month, because it’s not really a tab.

I ended up putting a little bit of washi tape right here, so you can clearly see you know where your month is like where, where the month you know, starts or whatever so anyway, all right, let’s get back to January, you guys are going to learn like Way too much about me on this okay, so the first page is you know over on this side. It just says January: you’ve got you know some lines, you got some checklists and then also you got the back side of the washi.

So currently, these are on the medications I’m taking and why I’m taking them, how much all that good stuff. So I wan na like every beginning of the month. I want to make sure to write that down, because, if anything changes I want to be able to tell you know my physician what’s going on, because they have been messing with my medications lately so and then, like February. I would do the same thing, but it’s clearly not February yet so I can’t put that in so anyways and then I can like adjust it if it needs adjusting and then so over here we’ve got like your weekly pages.

I’m not like a horizontal person at all, but I think for this it’s going to be just fine, because I’m not really utilizing it too much. I’m just kind of writing things down. So you know this kind of stuff or like. If I have a migraine or you know, I have to go to Urgent Care or the ER or something I can write that in and why and all that good stuff. So anyway, that is kind of how I am going to use this planner coming up, and here I’m going to put this right here, because that’s what I need and so yeah.

So these are some test results that I have to give my you know physician when I see them on the 26th, so I just have that in here and it’s just like a nice compact little thing and you know I can fit into my hand really easily Um, you know walking room with a life planner every day, just really doesn’t suit me and my needs. Even though I love my life planner, but I don’t think it’s ever left my house um.

I usually just keep it right here, um. You know you know on my desk or whatever and just let you know these do retail for $ 30. I don’t think I said that yet, but these do retail for $ 30 and they’re in the a5 size. So they’re, I don’t know they’re just really really. Nice and you know, I’m excited to use this and I’m excited to make progress. You know in my health journey also the back has a little Erin Condren logo on it.

So yeah I went through every single month and you know just started everything with you know this and then I put in like when I’m going to be gone. This is going to be go wild. I don’t know the dates yet I mean I know that. Go wild. It was actually like right here, but I don’t know like when we’re leaving and when we’re coming back. So I was like asker it I’m just going to like put all the put all the washi.

Why the hell not, and then I just love these little things, I think those aren’t really darn cute and to me I don’t feel like it bulks up the planner too much with the washi and the trifold stickers. I think it’s you know just fine by me. So yeah, then there’s July August. Remember that September and October. Oh and another thing, is I really like at the very end of the month hold on you have pages like you have two lined pages, so I can make any notes I want to make.

If I’m in a doctor’s appointment or maybe after the appointment, make any notes and then also in the very beginning of the month, you know I’m going to do my medications here, but I can make any other notes over here that I need to or if they’re Just really simple notes: you know I can make them on the day of the pointman or maybe a day. I don’t have an appointment. I can just like you know, keep writing or whatever.

So I do really like that so yeah and then I have November and then December and then in the back I decided to do so. This is going to get creepy. Okay, so like don’t be creepy and like stalked, my doctors, okay, so I wanted to put in some notable dates. So these are some dates that a lot of people ask about when I go to appointments and see other doctors. So anyway, I had an ER visit because of chest pain, that’s kind of like what started this whole thing I mean.

Clearly. I’ve had stomach problems and reflux issues for a long time like years, but yeah. I thought I was having a heart attack and I was not because yeah my hernia was acting up and I clearly didn’t know. I had a hernia at the time and then I have September 19th. I had the endoscopy which they found the hernia. I had my fallopian tubes removed on October 31 and then I had this esophageal manometry and 24 hour pH test in November anyway, and then so I have like all my doctors written down that I’ve worked with or are going to be working with and then, like Current allergies so yeah and then I’ve got more pages to go, and then I actually put in like some of the places that I need to go their addresses so yeah and then I’ve got the 2021 page so anyway.

That is it for a look at my medical planner for 2020. I hope you guys enjoyed if you use a soft bound, a focused planner. Let me know in the comments what you use it for, but yeah this is going to be dedicated to all medical things. I will probably be sharing some glimpses of this on Instagram when I can and yeah. I hope you guys are having a wonderful day and feel free to like the article subscribe.

Do all those things those new tubers tell you to do and I’m going to see you guys in the next article bye guys we’ll folks is time to kick it old school

FACEBOOK ADS MANAGER Tutorial (2019) – Campaigns Vs. Ad Sets Vs. Ads

So, let’s dive in and the easiest way to really explain all this stuff. You can see kind of you have the look at your campaigns, your ad sets and your ads right up here.

So you can just click and flip through each one of those tabs and The campaign, if you think about it like, should be drawing something like a board or something like that. It’s kind of like at the top and then you kind of like it’s like a pyramid right. So within one Campaign you can have multiple ad sets and then within each ad set you can have multiple ads All right. So, for example, like one campaign might be to get leads and then you’re targeting people in you know Texas, you’re, targeting people in Florida you’re targeting people in California.

Those would be different ad sets and then you would have different. You could have different ads within each one of those ad sets or You could have the same ads within each Mo’s. That says now. I know that’s probably confusing, Let’s jump in and break down exactly What all these are. So if we click on create’ right here, You can see so it’s start over. We have the campaign Okay, so campaign. It says: what’s your marketing objectives Like what do you want to do? Do you want to get people to click to your website? Do you want people to like or comment on your Facebook post? You want people to convert into leaves you want people to go through and make a purchase like.

What do you want So like that’s, basically telling Facebook, because the truth is guys. Facebook has so much data on all of their users that they know what users are more likely to click to a website. They know which users are more likely to kalaiy or comment a post, which ones are more likely to buy something online or by some Specific product online or to opt into a lead generation site. So all that different stuff.

So, that’s why you want to tell them exactly What you’re wanting to do And that’s why a lot of people actually fail with Facebook Ads as they’ll go through and on their Facebook page. So let me just pull up my Facebook page, really quick to show you guys this example So on their Facebook page here, They’ll come down and they’ll make a post And what happens if this will ever load up is you’ll. Get this little boost post button right here, Okay, on every single post that you make boost post and then people will be like, oh well, I boosted my post.

I, like you, know I put money behind it. I did the targeting all that stuff because they made it really simple: just click right. There Cuz obviously they’re going to make it simple, because this is an easy way for Facebook to make money. Then you just go through choose your targeting, who you want to target and you hit boost right. You spend five ten twenty bucks a day, However, when you go through and hit boost posts, this is choosing the market objective of Engagement.

Okay, Which means Facebook is going to show that posts of people more likely to like and comment on your posts, Not necessarily go and click to your website or generate a lead or make a sale or any of that stuff. So Sometimes you do want to do that. Sometimes you do want to go, get the engagement, the social proof behind a post. That’s really good for branding Right, but you don’t always want to do that So the campaign that is your marketing objectives And will hit those different market objectives here in just a second and then your ad set.

This is your targeting Okay! It’s who you want to target This is going to where you’re going to target the custom audiences that we’ve created the look-alike audiences. Alright, this is where you’re going to choose the age, the gender. If you wanted to do interest or a specific location, Any of that! That’s all in the ad set level: that’s telling Facebook who you want to target And then you can see and they’ve made it really simple.

That used to not have it like this, But they made the structure very, very simple, Okay, and So you can see this. The audience like I just explained in the placement, So what the placement is is. Are you going to place your ad on Facebook, I’m the newsfeed? Are you going to place into Facebook right hand, column? Are you going to place it in the Instagram newsfeed? So it’s kind of like old, traditional marketing.

Do you want in the magazine? Do you also want in the newspaper? Do you want it on the billboard? Do you want on the radio So just like all the different places that Facebook owns, which they actually own? Quite a bit of space right So, like you’ve got the Facebook stories. We’ve got the Instagram stories. You’ve got. You know the Instagram newsfeed Facebook newsfeed, So we’re ever. You want to place it we’re going to dive into which placements, I believe, are the best and when you should go through, and You know, expand it out to more places We’ll get into all that stuff here.

But then also your your budget and your schedule, like You, want to spend five dollars a day, ten dollars a day, a hundred dollars a day, or do you want to spend a lifetime budget of $ 100 over the course of a month? Or do you want this? The campaign spent $ 5 and ongoing until you shut it off Whatever it is, and then the ad is obviously what you actually see on Facebook or even on Instagram. So it’s the image, it’s the headline, It’s the text and the copy of all that stuff and we’ll get into the different ad formats And when to use each one and how to use each one.

What what things to really think about here in a later article! So with that said guys what, when it comes to what your market objective, there’s there’s several things that we got ta think about and, like I said, We need to know what our marketing objective is and Facebook has all this data on all of these users. So if we want to send people to our Website just to kind of check out a new blog post that we have or whatever We’re going to use traffic, if we want them to like or comment on our Facebook posts, We would use engagement.

Okay, if, obviously, if you guys have a app or something like that mobile app you’d use this one, I’ve never used it. If you want people to go through and read a article that you’ve promoted, you’d use article views because Facebook knows which people are more Likely to sit on their phone or souther computer and read a article on Facebook All right Now this one, as I mentioned earlier, If you’re brand new starting out, You don’t have any custom audience of any existing users or any existing buyers or leads, or anything like that.

This is a great one, because then you go shoot a you know two three-minute article talking about your product services, whatever it is, Promote it for, like five bucks, a day run it for ten days You spend fifty bucks and you’ll have a few thousand people. Usually you can get article views for about one penny per article view Okay. So if you look at that and that’s a three second article view, that’s not like a ten or you know, 25 percent view of the article.

But if you look at that, you Five dollars per day – That’s 500 people that are reading the article and it’s going to be exposed and reached a lot more than that. So that’s a really quick and easy way, simple way to go through and expand that audience lead generation right here is not necessarily using Landing pages kay we’re going to actually do as section on lead forms, because that’s a little bit a little bit different.

But basically, you run an ad and it’s to get a lead right: schisms, name, phone number, email address or even physical address and Then, instead of sending them to another website like a landing page to get that lead. What you’re going to do is there’s a pre-built form on Facebook. They click it, It pops open and then it pre-populates with all the information they already have on file with Facebook.

Okay, so it’s really cool. It’s really powerful. There are some pros to it. There are some cons to it, We’ll cover those as well and then messages. This is to get people opting in and starting that communication with facebook Messenger, Which is super powerful as well. If you go through kind of the facebook Messenger bot course that we’ve got the module in here, then that’s going to be able to help you as well with this piece and then We’ve got conversions, which this one is going to be more.

This one’s going to be big time with landing pages right or, if you’re, converting somebody into an actual purchase or sale or whatever. So that’s with the pixels, creating those custom, conversions all that That’s where you’re going to use this now catalog sales. This is going to be a lot more for e-commerce stuff, but to be completely honest, I’ve not done a ton with that, because I don’t run ecommerce stuff store visits.

This is a newer one. I haven’t done a lot with that Brand awareness and reach. I messed around with those a little bit, But as far as like going through and reaching a broad audience and building a custom audience, I like to use article views still for that. So So those are kind of different things, and one thing that I would like to just kind of like Just say so you guys kind of are aware On this traffic one.

You might look at that. You may like, oh, why would I ever use that? So I’m just going to use the conversions or the lead generation right here if you’re trying to generate leads. However, If you guys remember from the retargeting section, If you’re not spending enough money each week to get at least twenty convert, You actually want to do this traffic campaign. Okay, because Facebook’s their conversion algorithm, It really optimizes and really starts working which you’re getting about 15 to 20 conversions per week.

So that’s about two to three per day. So if you’re spending only like two to three dollars on a retarding campaign, That’s probably not enough money being spent to actually get those 15 to 20 conversions. So I would do is. I would spend two to three dollars on the the traffic campaign and run that okay, So those are just kind of some of the different marketing objectives, We’ll get diamond deep into each one of these will show you guys how to set them up.

I just kind of wanted to get to that and explain like why you would use different ones and when you would and Then even kind of break down the campaigns ad set and AD level. So with that said guys, I will see you in the next article
