What you think passive income means – and let me just explain to you what I think it means well passive income to me – means making money without having to put or not without having to do work. Okay, now that doesn’t mean making money without having to penny F. In it means making money without having to do any work. Okay, there’s a big difference. There huge difference, one making money without having to do anything, no effort, no work; well, that’s like winning the lottery and even then you’ve got to go, buy a lottery ticket.
That’s like that’s, like someone just coming up to you and just giving you money, okay, that is making money without any work, any effort and nothing that doesn’t really exist unless you have like a really rich father or like something like that going on. But who does so passive income means doing something in the now that will make you money in the long run? Okay, so that could be me creating a book alright.
So you can spend hours and hours and hours making a book writing a book, and then you could publish that book and sell it. That book will hopefully make you money for years and years and years, even though you are not working on anymore. So the cool thing about passive income is passive income. Your hourly rate goes up every single day, okay, so let’s change it up a bit. Let’s say you make a course like we’ve made our amazon course right.
We make our amazon course and what s is a bit different though, but we make amazon course and then we now sell an online course. So, every day that was saying cause the time it took us to make the cause is becoming more and more valuable. Okay, so if it took us a month to make the course and we’ve made – let’s say a thousand pounds or ten thousand pounds from the course, the more we make the more power we are getting for that initial month of work now the reason the course isn’t, The best example is because we do a lot of work with the course even now, so it’s not really passing because we speak to students.
We try to help people with their businesses. We’ve run, we run a the mastermind page. We do webinars, we do. Q & A so we’re constantly doing stuff for our students, so that’s not really a passive income. What is a good example of a passive income? Is a book or or song right. You write the song, you call the song, you let the album go and you get what is it: rights, music rights, royalties? That’s what they’re called loyalty you’ll get royalties for a very, very long time.
So when someone says oh yeah, I’m all into this passive income business – and I don’t have to do any work – I don’t have to do anything. I don’t have to do anything. It’s brilliant. You should do what I’m doing. That’s complete bull, crap, okay, is rubbish. They have spent a hell of a lot of time on the initial set up initial amount of work. Okay, for example. When people tell me I don’t have to do anything, I just make money now I don’t have to do work and it’s amazing.
It’s just it’s such rubbish, I mean I can show you spreadsheets work planning just stuff that I have to do every single day for work right and now I’m not saying what I do is possible, not possible. I think what I do is an aspect of passive income because, for example, I’m making this article now right. However, I’m making money on a completely different venture, a complete different business, and that’s because I’ve set that business up to make money without me having to continuously work for it.
That is why me and Josh can travel Josh and I can travel when an English isn’t. My strong point, that is why we can take a week off work and go and travel go to the country or do whatever and still make money that week, because we have set the business up specially with Amazon that my Amazon work mainly consists of sending a Message to my supplier, when I need new stock, and that is about it every so often we have to read our ranks and try and get out the rank, trying it try and sort that out or find your product, but that can all be handle.
If you hire someone so also in the process of hiring someone, so when we hire someone who’s going to be able to handle all of that stuff, we will literally be able to take a complete backseat on our Amazon business and then, in my mind, that will Become completely passive because it had the initial set up the initial work, which was hell and then it’s now become passive. So that’s what I try to teach.
That is what I try to instill on everyone that you should try and create businesses. Now that will make you money in the long term, so try and create passive incomes. They won’t be passive straightaway because you’ll have to a ton of work to get them to become passive, but as soon as you’ve done the whole initial setup and you are making constant money from it, you can take a back seat on the whole business, and that Is when it becomes a passive income? That is when you can sit someone? Yes, I’m earning money right now and I’m lying in bed right.
That is when it becomes passive income where you’re not working per hour, but the thing to understand is with passive income. You also, firstly, there’s no guarantee they’re going to make any money, and, secondly, the initial work to create that passive income won’t necessarily make you money, for example, the whole Amazon setup that isn’t making you any money the whole creating the course that isn’t making you any Money so there’s a lot of, I think, willpower and a motivation that is needed to create a business that is passive because you can spend months and months working on a project like a book.
You can spend months and months working on that book, not knowing if it’s going to make you any money or how much money is going to make you so there’s a lot of initial work that doesn’t make you any money on the hopes and dreams that, in The long term, it will make you a lot of money which will then become passive, so passive income is brilliant, but it is a huge risk because you’re, not you, can’t ever be a hundred percent sure how much you’re going to make and if you’re going to Be anything whereas if you have a nine-to-five job, you get paid every single hour, you are working at that job.
Obviously you get holidays and all that sort of stuff, but forget about that. The only difference is who do you want to be? You know, and that’s what you can. Let me know in the comments who do you want to be? Do you want to be the risk-taker that will put in all this crazy amount of work to hopefully have a business that will work for itself or do you want to work and get paid for every hour you work and when you eventually stop working, that is It I mean you might have a pension or you might have stocks and shares or whatever you might have, but realistically that is it.
That is your money that you are now stopping being paid because you’re stopped working. What would you, what do you want to do when you’re 65 70? 80? What do you want to do? So if we’re just just recap what I just said, passive income, I think, is where you have to have a lot of initial set up work that doesn’t actually get you paid.
Anything on the hopes and on the planning, obviously, on the under the long term, you will start to make money without you even having to do anything because of the initial set up. I’ve been getting quite a lot lately from SMA and agency owners, especially over on my tech-talk. By the way, if you guys are not following me, there go ahead and do that and I put out a ton of content there. But that is one question that I’ve been getting consistently and I’ve also been seen, and a lot of people asked that exact same question this article.
What I want to do is hop on my computer and actually go through the data with you and give you my personal opinion on the topic on whether estimate is dead in 2020 little info on me for those of you who are new to this blog, my Name is jaime, and I started my agency journey a year and half ago and managed to score my just the six figures, nine months into their journey. Now, what I’m doing is I’m teaching other agency and SME owners this sales and outreach part of building an agency landing more meetings, sign, more clients and scanning their agency.
So without further ado, let’s hop on my computer and dive into the data and see whether SMA is actually that in 2020, this articles going to be very, very juicy and the answers probably going to surprise you so you’re not going to want to miss it. Let’s get right into it, so here we are inside my computer and let’s get right into it, it’s SMA dead in 2020. I’m really going to be revealing everything inside this sideshow on them.
I’m normally going to be giving you the data, but I’m also going to be giving you complete advice that stems from my personal experience, as well as some examples, as well as some examples of current plan. Communication literally showing you some of the emails that I’ve had with the prospect I just to illustrate a point but yeah it’s going to be real real juicy and let’s get right into it that Sesame that in 2020, okay, so here, is really the common belief that A lot of people share in the space I’ve had a lot of people thinking about getting into us-made.
There are a lot of people thinking about build an agency or currently having and honestly this always happens when in the turn of the year – and this almost happens, what what is with you know, dropship and Shopify affiliate marketing. Your people really start to question whether you know there’s this gold rush, whether it still was black, bull or or as lucrative as it was last year, and so there’s always this this common misconception, this common myth, which is so many people are getting into as may, Is that even possible to get results now? Is it impossible to suck to have success, knowing the the massive saturation that there is in the market, and so let’s actually take a look at the data because you know the thing about me is I’m very analytical guy and I don’t just like to throw away Any sentence or any belief around I actually, you know like to dive right right into data and to really see whether it makes sense and to see whether what a lot of people were saying has good backing and good ground and that actually has grounds to kind Of have that bleep right so yeah I actually took a look at a you know basis, some very, very simple, Google Trends as a fact that a lot a lot more people searching for social media marketing agency – and you know you might think that Google Trends is – Is the very very simple thing, but it it’s actually a very great indication of you know, obviously, trends and and just a search volume on the the interest that there is for specific thing and so here with web searches.
We can see that you know there’s this. A massive, a growing trend when it comes to SME, the the funny thing is and I’ll explain my my prediction or on this, though the funny thing is: if we take a look at a youtube search, it’s actually down quite a bit, as we can see here In comparison to at 2017 2018, which is really one when ty Lopez really started, you know going brain were very very hard on on his social media marketing agency course.
We advertise in that a ton but yeah, as we can see here, with YouTube search, section, dropped off quite a bit, which is which is quite interesting graphs. What I also went ahead and did is that compared it to dropship images, which is my opinion, the closest financial vehicle competitor. If it, if you will and as we can see here, drop shipping, it’s tough to see because in my opinion, has made sort of mod is a much better financial vehicle than than drop shipping.
For a number of reasons which I’ll probably cover in in upcoming articles. But yeah I mean drop shipping, just knocks it out of the park when it comes to to growth in comparison to a sum a which you know there’s a bit of gold right here, but we can see that drop shipping is just massive mass growth over the Past you know four or five years listen. Why was interesting for me to see that YouTube search was a lot lower than web search is because the thing about web search is a it’s morphin.
Indication of what you’re looking for rights also counts for a lot of businesses that are looking for social media marketing agency. That might be searched in that turn, to see what agencies ranked when, when you, google search that, and so it’s not just an indication of the people that are getting into the space, but also it. You know there’s a very high probability that it’s also an indication of the people that are looking for a so from your marketing agency, and so that’s one things that I wanted to keep in mind.
And for me, and the the thing about this is not it’s not back with. You know data, but this just my personal opinion. I let me know what you guys think of this hypothesis, but when it comes to YouTube surgit and when it comes to YouTube, I feel, like a lot of people, go on YouTube to learn about a specific topic right. If you look if you’re looking for social media marketing agency or if you’re, looking for s and may or if you’re looking for a dropship in it’s, not because you’re looking for an agency to come in and run your advertising, it’s more because you you’re looking to Learn about a specific topic: there’s you know tons of tutorials on financial vehicles when it comes to.
You know YouTube right, and so, in my opinion, and at this, my personal hypothesis, when it comes to youtube search this – or these are people that are actually looking to get into it, to learn how to do it, whereas a web search is actually more of an Indication of the people that are looking for agencies on the web to come in and run throughout advertising, so keep that in mind. But what I want to do is you know to play very safe.
We can assume that yes, SMA is growing a lot, and you can see this with also the the number of of gurus that have come up in this space and and just you know doing a very quick, a youtube search. You see that a lot of a lot more people, including myself or putting out articles around the, are on the topic, and that’s that’s also a good indication of that fact. You know if you take a look at it at you know.
If you go four years back and you take a look at the Shopify, add drop swing, content that was on YouTube. It was very limited, whereas you know now, if you go on YouTube, you know everyone and their mother is is doing. You know articles on on drop shipping on Shopify. You know that whole niche right, so that’s also a good indication, but yeah please play save what I’m going to do some consume. That SMA is having an exponential growth like we can see in this graph, but what I want you guys to question is or the people getting into it, even the relevant at the relevant data, and this where I see a lot of people, you know they almost Get blinded by just looking at one side of the equation, which is not even the most relevant side of the equation.
But they just take a look at that that side of the equation. And then they just kind of assume that it’s too saturated right. But nor the only side of the equation: that’s where, when you that’s, when you guys to keep in mind, it’s actually a matter of operand map, and especially this especially true, you know in a b2b service right, there’s always a buyer there’s always a seller and the Other side of the equation, all the businesses that are in need and desperate for social media marketing, because nowadays, even more businesses are aware that digital marketing is the fastest most trackable, most tangible, most profitable way of going visit.
Only or more business aware that these are marketing is the way to go to grow a business. You know fast and profitably, but here’s a little stat on the number of new businesses opening up each year right. So, as we can see here over six hundred and twenty seven thousand new businesses open each year, so that’s that’s what a lot of businesses right! You have to keep in mind that I’m just throw some numbers around is for every twenty thousand people.
You know going into Western me and learning about us with familiar marking that start an agency which, to be honest, is it’s a huge number. The thing you know the reason why you think it’s a lot more people’s because it almost increase the secret chamber, a chamber effect where everything you’re, seeing on a consistent basis, it’s as some a because that’s that’s! We the only continue, consume right so II quiz this.
This chamber effect almost but yeah if, for 20,000, a for every 20,000 people that are getting into SMA each year, six hundred twenty seven thousand new businesses open up. Then you know you can kind of see how how that balance is out right, there’s still massive opportunity right. So that’s what that’s the the the person that we need to keep in mind on the other side of equation. The the client-side – and the second thing that I wanted to keep in mind, is that the growth of shop five – and this you know especially important if you go into the the e-commerce niche which is or which is also my niche.
So I just wan na you know, throw some numbers past you at to illustrate just the the incredible incredible growth of Shopify in in the past few years. So, from 2013 to 2006, 16 revenue from merchant services increased from 20 to 50 percent, which is quite a lot again, but from 2018 to 2019 the number of sulphite paying customers grew 55 percent from the previous year. That is an absolutely absurd.
Number of new businesses join me shortly. Okay, you know, there’s there’s very, very few businesses that are seeing this tremendous tremendous work. This illustrates just the number number of new e-commerce businesses opening up. I store every single year right and it doesn’t seem like that. Growth is slowing down anytime soon. So that’s the second thing this. The third thing is Shopify plus, so that’s kind of the rather higher at your service, 126 percent year-over-year average growth.
That is a huge, huge number yeah. That’s the third thing and the for thang financial report, total revenue and q1 of 2019 was three hundred and twenty point five million dollars. A fifty percent increase from 2018 q1 is a massive increase, there’s very, very few businesses that are seeing this type of growth online. So yeah, that’s the growth of Shopify, just to illustrate the huge growth that ecommerce that the e-commerce landscape, which is really the future, and it’s not even the futures, is already it’s the present it’s it’s over here, but it keeps on growing and there’s no sign of It slowing down data is clear, there’s more than enough to go wrong, but here’s really my opinion on the topic right.
You know, aside from the data without you know, without even looking at the data here. In my opinion, you shouldn’t even look at the data. Instead, focus on this just be better: okay, when the barrier to entry for financial vehicles load and people flock to it, this of gold rush. What this means is that many people think they’re going to hit the jackpot without putting in the work. This happens for every single financial vehicle you squeeze this.
This fight will affect where people start seeing, you know more people getting results, and so they think they can kind of duplicate that and so more people get into it, and so it just creates this viable fact that it gets bigger and bigger and and there’s eventually More and more people creating this gold rush moving right and this gold rush mentality – and you know this has happened with with drop shipping with Shopify and it’s going to happen with SMA, which is just behind drop shipping, but it just started.
I mean it will only get bigger okay, so the gold rush mentality hasn’t really caught into a semi while yet but in 2020. I think it’s going to be massive. There’s going to be a lot of people coming up with clear results. Online and people can see this and they’re going to flock to it like crazy and so that go rushing tide is created, and so all you have to do is outwork them up something better than them.
Even if it’s just a slight edge, I feel good. The numbers don’t matter and you might think well, that’s that’s just way too competitive like I’m not getting into business to you know, compete with with all the people. What you have to realize is you know, you’re going to go up against these people right, I’m consistently going up and I’ll be showing you some examples of this, but I’m going to sit on a daily basis.
I’m consistently going up against other agencies right there’s, especially if you’re going for the bigger clients, like the bigger clients, get approached by so many agencies. Just this week I signed you know I’m about to sign a contract with a client thanking me. I think it’s five months, and you know that it came down to the session between this, this other agency and my agency, and they want with us the screenshot off of this are right here on the screen.
This is not to brag okay. This is me, just you know, illustrating that there is, it is a competitive environment. Business is competitive, you have to you, know, you’re going to be going up against people and just have to be better than you know your your your system to have to be. You know more effective, more efficient, your your processes have to be tighter. Your your team has to be better and you just have to be.
You know the battery to win those big contracts and we have success. Okay, you know here’s the thing you can still have decent success. You can definitely get six figures without you know, being the best and just never one right, but once you know once you wanted to take things to the next level, one once you you’re really wanting to design those big lines, you’re going to have to be better Than probably what I would recommend is have this mentality right from the start, and it’s going to serve you so well, because you don’t have to look at the data you’re not looking sideways.
I have to see what other people are doing. You’re, just focusing on on you know, perfecting your service, perfecting your team perfecting their agency day in and day out, and then you know you’re going to bury the competition so yeah, that’s the first thing and and the second thing is the 80/20 principle. What this means is that most clients in their niche will gravitate towards the same handful of agencies.
This means that when you’re good doable, when you actually focus on the right things, okay being good, it’s not something that, should you know this hardened you or make you think? Well, I’m not! You know I’m not going to have successful as with SMA, when you’re good you’ll reap huge success, and that should really really excite you. If you’re willing to put in the work, if you’re willing to improve daily and get better daily, then you’re really going to reap huge success right because you know word-of-mouth referrals and and, as I said, the the 80/20 principle in place right.
It’s either all or nothing. Now that’s a bit of an extreme, I don’t you know, I don’t exactly mean nothing. I truly believe that, with with SMA, if you just keep working out, don’t necessarily if you just keep working at it, you know within nine months six months you can definitely learn land, one two three clients or four times right. But what I’m talking about is huge, huge success right, we’re talking about.
You know the six figures past past six figures: half a million in a year. You know even even taking the agency 2 million, which I haven’t done. I have known yet, but you can you can see this this, this pattern wicker and its really, because you know word mouth source kicking in referrals, tire store kicking in you get. You know more social proof and secrete. So again, this file fact, which I will recommend you guys read about in good to create, which is which is really a great book by Jim Collins, so yeah.
That is the second thing, and the third thing is many: existing reputable agencies, reputable agencies or very, very poor, okay, so shifting our attention from new businesses, that’s pretty needed social media marketing to businesses with low-performing agency. So, let’s just completely, you know this record and neglect the massive opportunity that there is with the business that are currently joining.
You know there are currently starting up and need social media marketing desperately. Let’s actually shift our attention to D, the business that are already there. Only out there and that may have it and that may even have agencies running their social media marketing. What I’ve come to realize is that many agencies, over the years over the past years have been able to get away with poor performance in the past and whatever my poor performance is just not be focusing on results not be focus on not being focused on on Robots be more focused on on having a swampy office with with a huge team of of people that are that, don’t really know what they’re doing on a consistent basis.
Yeah, that’s really what I mean by poor performance, the new type of performance driven results, oriented lean agencies that don’t need huge offices, then, and that that’s really the way I suggest you know people to run their agency. You know be very, very efficient and just focusing on results. That’s really the best way to run an agency, but I truly that this new tide of agencies would soon take over, and this also huge opportunity.
The Norden of people are talking about just about looking at the new businesses that are coming into the market that need social media marketing desperately. It’s also looking up. It’s also looking at the huge opportunity, other is by providing a better service than what a lot of agencies have been allowed to provide over the pad over the past few years. Okay, and so what I want to do now is. I want to illustrate this with my own experience.
Okay, if actually had the scenario I happen to us twice, and this very very reason I’ll show you in just a second there’s, the fourth of the time I’m recording this article, it’s the 17th of December, so yeah 13 days ago. This happened to me and I’m still in negotiations with this client. It’s it’s looking like it’s going to happen this week, then I’m going to be able to to close those those negotiations and have them come aboard and we keeping you guys updated on that, but very, very confident that that the this will finalize in in the upcoming Days what the head of this remark you didn’t had to say at the first time I contacted them.
This is a big company. It’s it’s a really big company. It’s a new kind of it’s a new sort of, although they they’ve been around for a they’ve been around for a number of years now, and then we have a very incredible product but yeah. This is what he had to say. You know in response to it my first outreach, I’m happy to have a call with you. Please note I actually spoke to Facebook yesterday regarding how to further optimize Facebook campaigns.
We have a dedicated Facebook expert that works without and we already have an agency. We also work with. Nonetheless, I would be stupid to refuse such a nice offer remind my first email was that was pretty banging but yeah thankee. He wanted to ask. Are you free from 4 to 6 p.M. Today or anytime tomorrow regards his name? Is a Oh. So yeah, then the conversation went on. We actually had the call I was a bit hesitant to.
I was a bit hesitant on the call and – and I think so was he and but it really turned out very, very well. I I was able to diagnose the you know the the biggest bottlenecks that they were. Having new, I painted a clearer picture that there were the one week in the don’t really weepin the the huge returns that they should be weeping from other Facebook ads, and you know that they could do much much better.
I painted that very very clear to them, and they did. I got this email. We actually had two calls prior to this and he you know he just emailed me. I just wanted to let you know we’re still on course to go with your plan records a you had a from working for this company. What I you know, the the reason why I’m showing you guys this is to illustrate just the huge potential of there is the huge presumably of there is by being better, but by being better than this other flashy agencies that that you know, have huge offices that Have incredible landing pages and that have an incredible you know quantum marketing team and that we have an incredible kind bases, one social proof.
At the end of day, we swore our King and that’s what the the client cares about the you know what the client cares about. Yes, social proof helps. Yes, you know having a clientele that can refer, you helps, but if you can just show them that you can get better better result on their agency and undo bear in mind. You know to this point at this point. Magnus II has a track record of incredible resources, so I can show them.
You know what we’re doing for for some we’re kinda. It’s it’s a great way to persuade them. You know by just showing them by straight up showing them results, but if you just if you can show them that your result, oriented team and that they that all you care about is results and you can get them with better results. This is a huge opportunity. I’m and what I would say is even better than had you know.
Looking at you know, looking over at the the companies or just sorting out on that, may not be able to pay you, those those huge retainers that you are and that I’m assuming you’re after so focus on being the best, and you won’t have to worry about The competition, but what I would say, if you really do if you we care about the competition, and you really want to you – know, keep in mind that that data that I that I showed you you know early on in this presentation, you can rest assured, there’s Still plenty of opportunity for newcomers, there’s there’s still plenty of opportunity in the SME space and there’s still plenty of opportunity to absolutely kill it with up SMA and really just you know, build the life of your of your design and and Jen.

Are you ready? Let’s get started? Okay, so if you think back to the five things you need to know to be a ninja master, knowing your enemy, choosing your weapon planning, your attack executing with grace and not screwing up. These are very important in your persuasive message.
Critical thinking is going to encompass your audience. Your purpose, in your context, you’re going to be framing using strategy now up until this point, we’ve been using the direct method approach, so you clearly are stating your purpose for writing or speaking to your audience in your first few sentences with the indirect persuasive message approach, We use the ADA approach so we’re going to align with the audience in the beginning, but we don’t tell them the direct benefit or the bottom line or why we’re writing until later on in the message, this is going to affect the way that you deliver your Facts using logic and reasoning in your structural coherence, because you’re not going to be using that direct method approach, information is going to look the same and error interference as well.
So let’s take a look at that indirect method approach. The a and ADA stands for alignment. So we’re going to align with a contextual introduction that tells the reader. We understand the context of what’s happening and we frame for alignment so rather than just saying, I’m writing to tell you about this, and this is how it’s going to benefit you. You want to form some kind of common goal with the reader.
You want to show that you guys have something similar. Then you move on to the information, the facts, the evidence that, from the readers point of view, then you provide the bottom line or the direct benefit to the reader, with a key point of what you’re trying to persuade them to do and how they will benefit From doing it, and finally, you call to action. That’s when you say this is what I want you to do and you outline the next steps in order for them to achieve it, making that easy for them to do whether it’s providing your contact information or providing them with the next steps of information.
So let me give you a little bit more background on ADA ADA in your introduction. You’re striving for alignment you want to align with the reader. You want to highlight any established relationship. You have with the reader and present a common goal, so you show them that you guys have the same thing in mind. You want the same goals and show that the reader that you each benefit from things that are the same then in the body.
You use information to support your viewpoint showing the reader from their benefits, their wants their desires and their needs. How what you’re going to propose can benefit them. Then, in the conclusion, you want to show action, calling them to action and making it convenient for the reader to make the next step now whiffy. What’s in it, for you is extremely important in persuasive messages. It’s always been important when we’ve told you when we are looking for that direct message approach.
We want to know the bottom line on top. How, and why should I be reading this? How is it going to benefit me? Well, unless you have through in the readers and the audience’s mind, if you take their interests to heart, you can persuade them. But if you don’t you can’t, because you can’t tell them that you want them to do something, because it’s going to benefit you, you want them to do something, that’s going to benefit them.
Yes, of course it can benefit you as well, but you don’t want to use or highlight hmm those aspects you want to highlight how it can benefit the audience to further persuade them to think about doing it because they want to do it. So let me give you an example: I’m going to bring a new case study in to the situation so DHL shipping. They used to be a shipper here in the United States as well as internationally it’s a competitor of FedEx and UPS.
Well, they decided that they were going to close their shipping business within the United States, which means they weren’t going to do intra national shipping anymore. You so you couldn’t ship from say, California, to Boston or Boston to New Mexico within the United States. They’re closing that business and they just decided to highlight their international shipping business what’s means that you could still ship from the u.
S. To another country, but just not within the United States. So, as you can imagine, this could cause some confusion when they are making this decision. They don’t want to lose their customers here in the US that are shipping abroad a lot, but they want to make it easy for them to understand so. Based on that situation, let’s look at a persuasive prompt in order to help you move through persuasion.
So in this situation, with DHL’s decision to terminate its US domestic service, Michelle Nadine, who is the vice president of corporate communication and public affairs, is anticipating a good deal of concern from current DHL customers who use the company to make cross-border shipments. If the majorities of these customers take their international business to UPS or FedEx, the loss of revenue could have grave consequences for an already struggling u.
S. Operation. These customers need to be assured about the viability of the company and its ability to effectively an efficiency efficiently deliver internationally. So Nadine has approached you because of your excellent writing. Skills and you have been and that you’ve been demonstrating as an intern or DHL and she’s, asked that you draft a sample of the communication under her signature to be sent to one of DHL’s largest customers.

This is how this reader does this. They say you have been our top customer for many years. We understand your desire for consistency and efficiency in your shipping needs. I’m glad to inform you of new changes taking place at DHL, which will radically improve your international shipping service. Dhl is closing its domestic operations within the United States to put more emphasis on our customers. In national shipping needs, this change will allow us to improve our efficiency and promote more international development and innovation to enhance your shipping needs.
So, as you can see, they’re taking the approach of us showing them that established relationship you’ve been our top customer for many years. We understand you, we have a common goal here. Our goal is to get your products to your customers efficiently and organized, and that’s your goal as well so you’re setting the stage for that alignment that things that we are aligned. We want the same thing: we’ve won the same thing for years.
We have your interest at heart, so then we move on to information and direct benefit. So we’ve set the stage we’ve aligned. The reader understands that we have their needs at heart, and then you say you’re going to hit on the points those seven ours hitting on the levers to drill down and show them that why you could benefit them. The relationship that we’ve had over the years entails an understanding that cannot be met by any other shipping providers.
Your employees and customers have grown to recognize our services and have familiarized themselves with our faces. We understand your organization and the shipping logistics and all aspects of your business, so they’re, hitting on the point that we have an established relationship and it’s easy for you because of this established relationship. We are recognized by you and your customers and that’s beneficial to you.
Now, in this next paragraph, I really want you to take into account emphasizing benefits over features. So in the second paragraph it says the second sentence of the second paragraph says: DHL can successfully deliver your products in over 220 countries around the world. That’s showing a benefit to the reader as opposed to saying DHL delivers products in 220 countries, which is a feature the first send, is actually showing them that there’s a benefit to the reader, because DHL can successfully deliver your products in those 220 countries.
Instead of just saying we deliver to 220 countries, yes, the reader could make the connection that, because you deliver to 220 countries, you could in fact deliver their products to that many. But we don’t want to make it hard for the reader. We want them to understand easily that oh, they can deliver my products to 220 countries, then the direct benefit their listing all this information and benefits to you, the reader.
But if you’re the reader that last sentence continuing your operations with DHL is most beneficial for you and your customers, that’s the direct benefit. That’s summing up all the information that they’ve, given you so you’re thinking, okay, I have established relationship with this company they’ve been delivering. My product successfully they deliver it, they can deliver them to 220 countries. Of course, I’m going to stay with them.
So what do I need to do? Next? That’s where action comes into play and when you call to action you are actually telling the reader to do something. It’s not like a informational message where you’re inviting them you’re, not saying if you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me in a persuasive message. You have to call to some site type of action whether that action is to do something to say something to change your behavior in a certain way.
You want to know that they’re doing that so you’re telling them to do something it typically. Please call me please email me, please do something excuse me so in this instance it’s please call or email me to set up a meeting to discuss how these changes will encourage more growth and improvements to your business. Then the next steps and the convenience for the reader is providing, of course, your email address and your phone number in order for them to do so and then leaving with I look forward to speaking with you soon, that’s telling them they call you how to call You and that you’re looking forward to that call, so there’s no doubt in the readers mind that they need to do something that you’re asking them to do something, and that’s how you call to action so think about your persuasive message.
You’ve been asked to align with your boss who’s your boss, mr. Dell erten. What do you know about mr. Dell Orton what’s important to him? What are his wants? His needs his desires. If he’s going to send the CSR team forward, he wants to know that it’s going to be beneficial to him in the future that sending this team on will help motivate them. That sending this team on will give him a group of interns that will be more willing and able to tackle the tasks that he wants them to that by sending on a successful team, he can be recognized by the top members of solutions care.
Remember your purpose. In here is to get him to say: oh, although they haven’t scored the net

Imagine having a job where you split wood all the time, but they preferred a splitting axe and that may have something to do with.
It could be regional as well as The type of wood that we split, which would have been Douglas fir at that at that mill. But look at this. This is Handle perfection right here. It is got a beautiful fawns foot with a little kick on it. It has a nice curve to it. It is so good. I’ve looked at it and felt it and studied that I am going to use this as a template for future splitting axes. It’s really that good.
I mean look at that. It’s got a nice big swell at the end of it. You know if you can see that or not right. There comes down fits the hand really well beautiful. Now is that going to be an issue for the rest of us who, you know maybe go out and split wood for 3-4 hours in the Morning or until lunch not probably not, but it could be.
I don’t remember, I split a lot of wood and I don’t remember feeling that that pain in my hands and I think That it’s a direct directly to that. I knew it now. I know when I went into the wood I could kind of jarred me. It’s kind of that’s kind of uncomfortable, So I’d say that that was a downside. It there’s no such thing as magic. Of course We knew that, but I can pretty much say From my experience so far that it’s not a toy.
It is not a toy, and – and – and this is This is a one specific Type of wood – will it work better with maple or with beech or with oak or Hickory. You know, I don’t know that’s up to you. Would I recommend it over something? Like the Bismarck, No, I don’t. I don’t think so. I don’t dislike it at all, but that that pain From the vibration is a big problem for me, even though I do like a lot about it, but you’re going to have some added maintenance issues there Possibility these things breaking.
I just don’t know I I just haven’t seen an advantage that would overcome The kind of the hand pain factor over the ee old Bismarck right here. This is a good one right here. That’s That’s pretty hard to beat a little easier to swing this one. This was a little bit lighter, But I think that’s enough. You have brought the court has jurisdiction over the defendant. You will need to point out the minimum contacts the defendant has with the state where you brought the lawsuit the venue is proper venue is proper where the defendant is business there or is a resident talk to whoever made service if the defendant argues. That service was improper, then you should find your proof of service form. Also talk to the person who made service.
This person may need to testify at the hearing on the motion to dismiss tell the server when the court hearing is, if you need their attendance research, the law to help develop your counter-argument, you need to do some research, for example, the defendant might claim he can’t Be sued in your state because he only has a business office in the state but doesn’t live there. You will need to find out whether or not that amount of contact is sufficient.
Minimum contacts for jurisdiction get a copy of any court opinion cited by the defendant. You can find court opinions at your nearest law library, which may be at your courthouse or at a law school. You can also find court opinions on Google Scholar, click case law and then type in the case. Citations, eg, 322, 2, F, D, 265. Read the cases to make sure the defendant has summarized them accurately also find cases that support your position.
You can search. Google Scholar select the court, you want to research and then create relevant search strings. For example, minimum contacts business office is a search string meet with an attorney. If necessary, you might feel overwhelmed trying to figure out how to respond to a motion to dismiss if you need help or if you have legal questions. You need answered, then schedule an appointment with an attorney.
Only a qualified attorney can listen to your individual circumstances and offer properly tailored advice. You can get a referral by contacting your local or State Bar Association. Once you have a referral, call up the attorney and ask to set up a meeting, also ask the attorneys fee and briefly describe your problem.

This for quite a while and who’s seen a lot of Things change over time And the people who have Quote unquote: “ survived” and are thriving. Are the ones who really do have something to say have something to offer? And have something of value to contribute to the conversation So little bit of a tangent Little bit of a rant And for me a necessary prelude, To the topic of this article, which is how He Spoke Style, makes money, So He Spoke Style has four Different revenue, streams, brand partnerships, advertising affiliate and the HSS Shop, And what I’m going to do next is walk you through each One and how it works Brand partnerships, So brand partnerships are Where a specific brand or a brand through Their agency reaches out to collaborate to produce content.
It could be for a specific Campaign they have going on, It could be for general awareness. In every case, though, It is a way for a brand to get in front of an Audience that you have built – and that is specific to you Different brands – look For different things and have different KPIs or Key performance indicators based on whatever their goal is So some are looking for reach. Some are looking for impressions.
Some want engagement, Some want conversion Or it could be a combination. Of all of those things, So the amount you can make On a brand partnership depends on a few things. It depends on the budget. The brand has to work with for marketing. It depends largely on the Size of your audience and, to some extent, a demonstrated history of producing impact and Results for brands in the past. So if a brand paid you X amount of dollars to do a project that was Focused on conversion and you didn’t sell a Single unit for them chances are that they’re not going to work with you in the future.
The most important part About partnering with a brand is to make sure that the Partnership makes sense for you and that it makes sense for your brand. So it’s important that you Have a specific point of view and a sense of what it Is that you stand, for, We are very selective at He Spoke Style about the kinds of Brands that we work with, For example, over the last few years, we’ve had long-term Partnerships with some fantastic read brands, including A.
Lange & Söhne, Vacheron, Constantin and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Some read brands, though let’s call them fashion. Read brands have reached out to partner with us and we have always politely Passed on those opportunities because they don’t make sense for us, It’s not something that I would personally use It’s not the level of product I’m comfortable promoting And there’s been a lot of money. We said no to in that space, But it’s more important.
To only work with brands that we truly believe In because, once again, authenticity is the coin of the realm, How on earth could you Take someone seriously that in one sponsored post or article says IWC is the best read brand ever and then in the very next Sponsored post or article says, MVMT or Daniel Wellington or NOVE is the best read brand ever That’s a rhetorical question. My point is that saying no to things may, in the short term, keep You from making a few dollars, but to me you will have much more success if you build something Around a set of values and play a longer game in that sense, Brand partnerships are currently the largest single source of Income for He Spoke Style, which is why I spent so Much time talking about it And also they are the most Creatively, satisfying way that we make money Next advertising, So He Spoke Style – makes money through ads that you see on the website as well as ads that you see here on the YouTube blog, We don’t sell the space on the website directly to advertisers ourselves.
We work with an ad management company that fills that inventory for us And then with YouTube. We just enable the Articles for monetization and Google takes care of the rest. I am not an expert in how Revenue is calculated, Though there is something Called CPM or cost per mille, that is a metric that advertisers use And then with YouTube. I believe it’s a combination, Of number of views, as well as total, read time, So we make a decent amount on ads, not as much as we do.
With brand partnerships, but it’s a really nice source of passive income that we have – And this is one of the Reasons that when I talk about building a business in this Space that I say it’s important to have a variety of options: In your portfolio out there, If you’re putting all of Your eggs in one basket you’re potentially missing Out on a revenue stream that you wouldn’t otherwise have That’s.
Why, although a Website isn’t super sexy to a brand partner. At this point, most brands are interested Mostly in YouTube or Instagram, The fact that we built and Still maintain a website that a lot of people read Opens up this opportunity that we would completely miss Out on, if we didn’t do that, Third way He Spoke Style makes money is through affiliate. Marketing Affiliate marketing is When you promote a product or give a link to a Product and when someone buys that product or clicks on The link and buys a product you get a small commission on that sale.
This can be done directly with a brand. For example, we work with Dapper Woodworks this way we work with Stubbs and Wootton this way, Or there are several services That sort of centralize everything like rewardStyle ShopStyle, so you’re not having to deal with each individual advertiser yourself. This is a smaller revenue. Stream for He Spoke Style, but again like ads. It does create this sort of passive income that continues to build On itself over time, It is more time consuming to Do to put the links together and search for everything, but I view it as a small way.
That I’m able to get a little something back for the Effort that I put into it. Finally, we have the He Spoke Style Shop, So we launched this Just over two years ago – And it was something that we wanted to do – to create a world around What we were doing and to be able to offer our readers fans, followers and viewers direct Access to some of the things that we really loved and That we really believed in E-commerce is a really tough business with the small staff that we have here, It’s been basically impossible to scale up beyond where we have it now, but again it is a nice source of income.
That we have coming in Now there are some really exciting things that are going to be happening. In the shop very soon We are going to be partnering With Michael Andrews to offer an exclusive Made to measure service and other things as well. It’s pretty awesome. In Melbourne, I don’t know what time it is where you act, but it’s the lunch and learn with prosper here from leave long digital, I’m assuming that you’ve had a fantastic weekend and you’re ready to toggle on the next week coming ahead. Today’s topic is something that you know, troubles a lot of people and we’re just going to be talking about the seven problems that are actually facing small businesses in modern online marketing.
Now. The reason why I chose this topic is, I have had experience in the last four years, working with small to medium businesses, like yourself and coaches and consultants, to actually help the market scale and grow their business all right. So this is reading from this book marketing strategy by Walker there right it’s one of those off-the-shelf type books and it’s talking about opportunities right now, every single day we are exposed to an online opportunity right, but it says opportunities are as good as the marketing and Their business people who will pursue them, that’s if, even if some combination of marketing and industry factors presents an opportunity and that attractive edifice plant, there remains some critical questions.
One does the opportunity to seek what you want to do that. Your mission, your aspirations, your passion and your objectives, and do you have the right resources right, people right, organizational, confidences and other critical success factors necessary to implement your plan successfully and number three? Do you have the right connections and business networks to actually go in with this and most industries their number of people and critical factors that tend to separate the winners that does tend to separate the winners and the also-ran okay.
So what religion is saying is you are being presented every single day with some sort of new and shiny object, new and shiny opportunity, but is it meant for you? Are you the right of a person to execute on that opportunity, because that the end result is? I end up working with people that are not passionate about something they’re working on. Oh that project, oh that dropship serves been doing, was just a means to an end: okay and they’re, putting so much money.
Now they can’t get out of it because they’re too legit to creat all right now. The goal of every sort of digital marketer and online business owner I know, is to get leads, and I usually generate revenue for your online business, and I assume that will be what your goal is. But are you aligned to the business you’re starting? Is it something that you would wake up and really want to do, or is it something that you were sold on to by somebody who wrote really good copy on a Facebook ad, because some of the people I was talking to a very beautiful couple earlier on In the morning, they’ve got a website that they’ve just recently started, but it is not aligned whatsoever to who they are as a person to what they want to achieve and where their goals are and just look like.
It was going to be an ATM for them and now they’ve spent so much money in it and it’s not working for them. Okay, so you really want to look from the get-go whether the business is really aligned to who you are is really aligned to your goals and really aligned to your vision and your passion as a person. You cannot sell something to anyone that does not read. That. Does not respect you? Okay, so if you have a headache, if you’ve got a headache right now or if you’ve got a toothache, would you go to somebody who is a janitor to help you fix that today? No, you go to a dentist or you go to a doctor.
Okay, so that’s the Rick. That’s the same thing that people online are also doing. If you’ve got a shop that selling things that you’re not passionate about people can tell you, don’t have the lingo, you don’t have the expertise and you cannot talk to those people in that particular manner. Okay, it’s just like myself opening up a shop and I want to sell dresses. I don’t know anything about dresses, I don’t know what women wear in winter or if they wear dresses.
When they go to sleep, I don’t know where dressing the one. So how am I going to connect with the customer and expect them to give me money when I am NOT passionate about the thing that I’m selling all right, so how these things they’re, self-induced all right, and so that’s the reason why I want to talk about Some of the problems that people are facing online, one big problem that people are facing is they’re not aligned to the products they’re selling and it’s not easy to discover or to even see have you ever seen somebody who, when you ask them, what do you do They just send you a page or a link to what they do know.
Enthusiasm, no explanation, nothing! It’s because they’re not connected to what they’re doing. Okay every single day I put up a post on my facebook, and I ask people what are you doing? What what makes you happy Christina? Thank you so much for sitting in ask people. What are you doing? What makes you happy what what’s happening in your life? Some people just post a link, and they expect me to figure it out on my own.
That is not going to work, because, if you’re, not it passionate about whatever it is you’re selling or you’re presenting to anyone who is going to be questioning about it. Okay, because have you ever noticed if you have a baby, because I’ve got a little girl. My little girl is the cutest girl in the world, okay, according to me and she’s the cutest in my world, but somebody else might see her and say what an ugly baby okay! So if you are not going to present your little girl or your business to people, no one is going to see it in the same light that you see it.
Okay, people are now buying on emotion. They never buy it on the basis of how cute or nice your logo is okay, you might as well go and spend $ 20,000 on logo, but if you’re not putting in the passion, if you are not talking to people connecting and relating to everyone, that you Come across they’re never going to know that you exist. I think you would have seen on my post. I put up a picture. You know I like dressing up and saying the problem that a lot of enterpreneurs are facing.
These days is because nobody knows they exist. Nobody even knows their business exists. It’s up to you to bring it out to the muscles. It’s no longer a situation where you build and they come all right. You got to bring the people to you so that they can. You know you can have a business. That’s profitable and enjoyable, okay, so if this is something that you’ve been struggling with a lot figure out, are you really really aligned with your business, because people can also tell that’s the reason why people are not connecting to your business all right if you’re, not in It no one is going to be in it for you, okay and one other thing, one of the problems that is facing a lot of small business people.
You know with this whole modern online marketing is their message is not aligned to the market they’re, sending it to all right. Your message really has to be aligned to a market that will purchase and buy from you all those things that will then help you deliver. That message, like your Facebook, your website and your Instagram, those come in secondary I’ll, give you an example. Coca-Cola has been a business for the past hundred years.
Okay, what has been their message? Their message has been open happiness right. Their message has been: we create happiness and ground your meals, all Christmas, okay and who is their market. Their market is usually everybody else, but basically families and people that just want to be happy right and you get a coca-cola. So that message has been pounded up on us right now for the last hundred years, and as much as when you go to third world countries, every soft drink is called coca-cola.
Every soft drink, no matter brendan is even if it’s of Pepsi people would say. Can I buy a coca-cola alright because they have been pounding their message now? Their market can be anyone else which is the different product, but you need to specify who your market is and the media they have been using has been totally different and keeps evolving. They were on newspapers very on TV, on radio on buses or anything that you can think of that has a coca-cola advert on it on billboards all that stuff, that is the media and it constantly changes.
Now the small business person of the day is concentrating on the media. They want to know how to write ads. They want to know how do you know we have lots of following on Instagram. They want to know how to market their business. But what are you doing? Who are you communicating to and why should they care that’s where a lot of people get it all wrong, they’re going in straight for the media and the media keeps changing I’ll.
Give you a perfect example in this day and age. Right now we’re reading the biggest infinite height we have ever experienced. Facebook is totally ripping off everything. Snapchats built okay, so in the coming year, snapchat might not be working as a business and that we knew it as a social media platform. Look how’s it going. Man tips for tuning in Peter, so if you are concentrating your business and growing it on snapchat, while everybody else is being drawn back to Instagram and Facebook, all right, you see when the media, you see, you see how the media is not important, and since businesses We’re concentrating on advertising on newspapers, people are reading blogs know if people are concentrating on having um, you know commercial slots on TV.
People are reading YouTube now. Okay, and if people in your brand was concentrating on advertising on radio and people are listening to podcasts now. So you really want to make sure that your message is set in stone to who that message is going in the market and if that market can’t understand that message with ever media, you can use that can change so the biggest problem that a lot of small Businesses is facing is they’re, starting off with the media chasing the media chasing Facebook chasing.
You know your Instagram chasing snapchat. Okay, if you manage to gross Facebook for one day, they’re going to come in and change the algorithm and then you’re going to go back and learn it again, but you’re neglecting what your messages you’re neglecting who you marketed? You need to concentrate delivering a message to a market that actually understands you. Market is a person who gives you money market is the person who votes for your product and market is a person who actually raises his wallet and says you know what I want.
More of what you’re, having here, take my money: that’s the market, the person who ought to be value-based, your business, the person who actually says yes, I want to have more of what you have. How are you connecting to that person? What message are you leaving into them? That’s what small businesses do not realize that base should concentrate on. Thank you. So if you’ve got your message delivered to a market once you’ve got this to setup, you will realize that you now have a business, that’s profitable and enjoyable. The media can always fluctuate and change the media can be your grandmother if you want it to be. If you ever hurt your grandmother talking so much about you when she goes to play, bingo all crush sitting with the other.
Ladies, there she’s medium, but you got ta, give a message so that she delivers into a market all right. Some people are just going in to tell grandma stop that grandma does not understand. So you need to make sure your message is congruent either on all these little stuff platforms that you have you sighs social media. Everything is uniform because you know what somebody might get a chance to see your stuff today and they go away and do something else right now.
Look at this time is an illusion in Australia, as we speak, it’s 2:15 on the monday, which means we’re already halfway through a business day while where you are right now, it’s you know, you’re going to sleep alright. So if I put out something you are going to sleep right now, you will forget overnight and then tomorrow is your Monday and you’ve got a whole day to start off with now. If my message is not consistent and if my end user and this my message is not consistent and congruent, how what are the chances of you remembering what I’m just saying now, if I don’t come back again and reiterate that message, so you need to figure out What exactly you are bringing out to the market so that the market will then reward you with the walnuts, the credit cards and everything else that validates your business? Okay, because if you’re just going to be a one-click wonder you know you’re here today, you’re little more you’re here today, your head, then Murray’s doing that you’re doing that people people get tired of you and before you know it you sitting there and you you’ve got More months at the end of your money and you doing it all but you’re not realizing that you’re not reaching out to anyone, so you want to figure out if your message is particularly set to a market that understands you that likes you.
That will vote for you amongst all the other players in the market. Then, whatever media you can choose from all, you can play around with that’s up to you. It depends now. You then go into Facebook ads. You know why you don’t just target people that already know like and trust you and your eyes spread is not that much. You see what I’m talking about here when you’ve already crafted your message, and you already have a market that you can now send that message to Facebook ads in the media.
You know I mean you can then just send whatever you you created through your. You may be the blog that you got a picture on hovers at pixel and then just said ads, particularly to those people that are on that pixel. Those people already know like and trust you and it’s a cheaper way to convert okay, but other people are just praying and praying and hoping that something is going to stick. If you’ve noticed on the market right now, you are actually now getting paid to buy people’s books.
I don’t know you’ve seen those ads going around. You know give you twenty dollars I’ll, give you ten dollars, so you can buy this book. You never know. What’s going on in people’s front day, but at the end of the day he’s trying to put his message into the market now, if your message is not set in stone, you also just be a wandering generality or a one-click, wonder and that’s where most of the Problems were then stable from that are facing a lot of small businesses right now, because you know why the message is not in place and their market is not defined all right.
So this is exactly what the online prosperity blueprint is going to teach. You know without some sort of online and strategy, so your strategy really has to come from who you are what you can provide and who means it and who you can provide it to once you get all those things sit you can you can. You can use this example with anything. You could be an online store that sells camping gear. All right, that’s who you are! You are camping, enthusiast and you’re, going to be looking for those people that are also camping, enthusiast, okay, but also within the camping enthusiast.
You need to differentiate who exactly your target market is because, if you’re looking for that weekend camper, it’s a different message to somebody else who is a gator farmer or who is always out in the woods, hunting or a duck shooter, or something like that. So you need to figure out who exactly your market ISM once you can talk to them, you can influence them with impact and influence comes income all right.
So you want to really make sure that it’s there’s anything you’re going to get out of this talk today. Once your message, who are you sending that message to and how are you sending that message message – market media the media can play around you can turn you know you can do podcasts. You can speak on top of the mountain you can play drums if you’re African, you know, swing by trumpets, that’s the media, but what is the message you’re delivering and who wants to hear it? Okay, so sometimes people are just concerned about bringing traffic to their website.
Of course, people will come, but what are they going to come and get? What are they getting? What are they? What value are you providing into the market because you get paid in accordance to the value that you provide, so you bring in people to your website? Yes, that’s cool they’re coming in they’re coming in, but it shouldn’t they come to that party. Are you playing the right kind of music? Do you have the right kind of food for them, some of them are vegetarian, some of them are gluten-free and some of them don’t even eat anything.
That’s it. I because they are in a diet. So have you got all of those things set up for them as soon as they come to your party? Do you have strategies enough for them that, as soon as they get here, they know where the buffet table is and from that buffet tables you and literally get them too? You can literally get them to you know start. You know benefiting from your content. So half the time guys we’re not doing enough, we might think we’ve got a business, but who are we serving? What are we telling them and how are we reaching out to them? The fact is that all make sense in and as much as, yes, everybody wants to start an online business.
But what are you selling who needs it, and why should they care, so you got to make sure your your-your-your message is going to a specific market and that market connects through media. So those are the three ms that you need to be specific about as soon as you start, your business, okay and you need to have a strategy of how you’re getting those people receiving your message and why should they actually care because you got ta, let people Realize what to want they’re not going to know you existed until you go out there and let them know alright, so you want to type in blueprint so that we can start working together.
I put up a post again a little bit early after that. If you really want to figure out where you’re going, how you doing this, because we can tell when, when nobody’s really doing anything online, that I know it’s painful, I know it hurts I’ve been there. It’s not your fault. This whole thing, this whole internet is, is still too small and that a lot of people don’t realize how to play around with it.
And it’s not your fault. Okay, some people might just have a clue. Some people might just have an idea, but the principle is still the same. You really need to know what your message is, who the market is and what the media you’re going to use to reach out to them. Okay, so just type in blueprint. If you really want to get a close close up of how I’ve started creating you know really good successful people that I actually talk to and really good successful people that actually are working with me.
Somebody tell my students guys ask for this. Some of my students are any more than the Guru’s out there. You know why, because we’re not doing looking for the nice fancy schmancy, we really harvesting the core principles of marketing who or what is your message? Who needs to hear it and what media are you going to use? If you just play around that realm guys are sweaty, you will be, you know reaching the top.
You know people that are out there on the market. Anyone can come in and tell you. This works that works that works, but if you miss it, it’s not reaching on to a target market. You’ve lost a ring. Okay! Imagine somebody if you’re a girl right now, somebody comes in and wants to sell you a necktie. What are you going to do with it if you’re a guy somebody comes in and wants to sell you a bra? What are you going to do with it? You know so that’s that is you know, misguided marketing messages that are going out up there in the you know, space of the internet, then all right so either you’ve got to have a strategy or if you don’t understand it, you invest a lot of time to Learn these things? Okay time, investment is another concern that we see small business owners.
You know has a facing problems with the thing. Is you have a lot of time, but you’re not budgeting it? Well, all right you’re allowing people to send you emails, and then you look at the email, 24/7 they’re putting their agendas in your head and then you fill overwhelmed and then you don’t do nothing for your own business, unsubscribe from all that crap. How for them? You don’t even open anyway right, just unsubscribe focus on who you really want to speak to what you’re going to tell them and how you’re going to reach them.
You know how’s the house of the problem. It stems of not having a focus or not exactly knowing what it is that you’re supposed to be doing. If you were meant to be solving problems for people figure out who exactly needs your service? How can you reach out to them? So what will you tell them as soon as you and in their space, because people are busy? You know, I mean every every time you look at the what’s happening around you right now.
You might be reading this, but you’re, probably reading TV or you know your little. Kid is right in front of you or you just had a sip of water or you’re, just waiting for your middle to be ready or something is happening. No one is just going to be sitting here and waiting for prospers life show every single day and that’s what exactly is happening to your work out there in the market? Who are you sending the message to? Why should they care? How are you sending it to them? The house is completely flexible.
You shouldn’t compromise on what your message is, what you stand for and why people should care? Who are those people that you’re talking to and why should they stop whatever they’re doing and listen to you, how you reach them? That’s a figure of your imagination. Alright, because some people are just going out there with regurgitated statements with rehydrated. You know you need propositions. They’re not unique you’re, not the first person to come up with anything new people are tired, there’s no.
What is called adds fatigue. That’s why your ads are not working right now. You know why? Because people now have trained themselves not to see ads that sponsored things that shows on their Facebook they’re tired of that stuff. Alright, so I urge you, I mean teach somebody that you want to learn from trusts and experts, because people people, people like myself, people that have been there – have spent their time money and effort learning these things and they can shortcut your learning curve.

They are no two people who have the same thing.
They. Never any competition. Are there right? You know it’s just quite popular to do the same thing, but if you come in with something totally different, because your message is your message, your market is your market. No two people can be like at exactly the same time. You know why, because it’s just human nature, you know, and then, whichever way you’re going to use to reach out to those people, but you got to figure out what are you giving them to? Why should they care? Why should they trust you to work with you? Alright and once you’ve done that just show up for those people guys, because you cannot just be a one click one that people want to know that if they purchased something from you, are you going to be there to help them? Are you going to be there to implement? Are you going to be there to support them? Because if you’re not going to be there, then that’s why people go elsewhere? Oh, you know there’s things that are going on a run, faced with all support, small businesses and stuff, like that people want to support small businesses, but also small businesses, I’m not producing enough for showing up enough for them to to have faith in our being they’re.
Tomorrow so once you start showing your people, your market, that your present and you’re going to be consistent in saying that message, they will bring referrals to you and that then becomes your media all right, I’m more than happy to help out a few people. I was actually at my friend Ryan’s apartment yesterday, um, I don’t know in this articles going up, but Ryan has his own YouTube blog, which I will link up in the card for you guys he is a man with the plans, and I brought my binder over And we were kind of looking at each other’s planners and whatever, and I have been decorative planning for several years now.
Actually I started a decorative planning when I started my youtube blog. So what like, four or five years – something like that and it’s taken a long time for me to really understand my style and figure out. What makes me happy so we had a discussion about planner piece and if it’s even achievable and all of that stuff. So I wanted to kind of share with you guys my mentality of how I have gotten to the point where I feel like.
I have achieved the planner piece, the illustrious elusive planner piece. So a lot of my journey with planning is centered around the Erin Condren products. I have tried several different things and what I keep going back to is simplicity. For me, I am NOT one of those people that can have four or five different planners. It’s too much for me, my brain doesn’t work that way. I have a very simple life.
I am single, no kids, no partner. I have a dog like that’s it, so I don’t really have that much stuff to track or write down or whatever you know. But there was a time where I was using a couple of different planners for different things, and now everything is in this planner. What I use now is the Erin Condren binder system, and I’m just going to flip through and like talk to you guys, while I’m flipping so yeah, but this has just been working really well for me, oh my little, my little dots are over here.
Here we go, I’ve done several articles on this particular planner. I did put in a just cover because I feel like that helps with you know not ruining these pages, but I did actually end up ordering a neutral planner, because I love the way that the neutral was. But, to be honest, I decided that neutral is not for me and you guys are probably thinking like what Emily you’re like super neutral. Yes, yes, I am, however, I’m super neutral in my like regular daily life.
However, in my planner is like the one place that I can be super colorful and more bold and loud, and it doesn’t cause me anxiety, like color in general, like lots of like big colors, really cause me legit anxiety. So that’s why my home is very neutral. My wardrobe is very neutral, I’m very neutral, however, in here I actually really enjoy it, so it’s kind of like my little outlet, if that makes sense anyway.
Here are these pages. This has where I track my menstrual cycle paydays and then like work holidays, so I mean you could track whatever the heck you want to on there here. I actually just made this not too long ago. I had one of these in my last planner too, and this is like kind of just like projects or things I’d like to do so like I have my entryway living room, half bath garage laundry office, kitchen, dining room, loft master bath bedroom, and then I have An extra one, but just thought that you know this would be kind of cute to put in there and then over.
Here is my first July, a budget that I’ve done. I used to have a erin condren, deluxe monthly planner, and that only has my budget, and that was it. I love the idea of the deluxe monthly planner when I was actually tracking every single dollar that came in and came out, but I don’t do that anymore. I do follow the Dave Ramsey plan and, at the point that I was tracking everything I was, you know paying down debt saving up my six month, emergency and saving for a house so like that was really nice to have like a tangible place to see everything Like the incoming and the outgoing, but now that I’ve already purchased the house, I’m in baby step four and six, because I don’t have kids, so I don’t not doing college savings.
So I just like an overview. That’s just works super well for me, and I decided to do that in the sheet at the very front of the month. So anyways. If you guys want to see any of my budget bud, you don’t want to see any of my budgeting articles I’ll, throw it up and a card for you guys um, but yeah, and then this is the first month. I just wrote down some things, but I never really. I don’t know I don’t know what to do with this page.
This is this is my problem and I know that some people have actually like taped these pages together, so it just flips to the month. I may or may not do that, I’m not sure I mean I might find a use for these two pages at some point, but this is my month of July. That’s already happened and then speaking of planner piece. So, for me, what has worked really well, especially when you’re first starting is don’t buy all the things.
I know that’s so hard to do, because I bought all the things and I ended up not using all the things this is before. I discovered that people had like dedicated a planner, instagrams and people did. Plan with me is on YouTube and I did not know any of that yet so I had already established my youtube blog just a little bit. I had done a few articles and I decided as soon as I started or as soon as I got my first planner, that I was going to start planning articles and I did, and I actually didn’t do any talking at all.
I mean I said like hello and then I would just you know fast-forward through it, and then he like show you all at the end and it was like very, very decorative and I felt like everything needed to have a theme because that’s the only stuff, I Kind of saw online, it was very femi and it inevitably didn’t end up working for me, which really sucked, but that’s okay. Over the years, I have established a love for two major sticker brands that have really worked for me and the first one is coffee, brick planner, which all these little scallop boxes and then all the scripty words are from her and then I also am in love With Christian designs, I feel like the majority – well not in the majority at least half of the stickers in each shop really appeal to me and that just I don’t know it works well with my brain that I can support these two shops by the things I Need and I feel like it all kind of flows well together.
I hope that makes sense for me and a normal like weekly basis. Usually my two or my go-to things are these scallop boxes because I usually will write in things that are happening, and then these are also which I absolutely love, that they are mat removable stickers. So you can actually peel them up so say I didn’t. You know, edit that day I can pull that up and it’s just so easy. I do obviously have other sticker shops too, but I kind of just sprinkle those in where they go and I’m not super dedicated to one shop or another.
In that respect, I do like little icons like this. One is a 110 and a million this ones once more with love. This little dr. Guy is from plan to plan sticker Co yeah. So I mean I love like little things like that. Just to emphasize the event in the box also, these little blobbies are super cute from oh hello, stationery like there’s so many fun things to put in there to kind of, like judge up your planner, if you like that, if you like super basic and all you Want to do is just have different, colored pens like you go, you do your thing.
You know so yeah, that’s kind of like my mentality, like walking through how I lay my stickers down and how I choose what I choose. So this is like the week of July 4th. Clearly this is July 4th right here and then um here is this week, um so yeah. But another thing I really wanted to talk about was that I know there are some people in the planner community that get not necessarily upset, but maybe like a little perturbed if other people copy their style – and I feel like copying or emulating is how people find Their style, so I always take it as a compliment.
If someone’s going to tag me on instagram or send me an email saying: hey, here’s, my first spread or here’s a spread that I just did and I really emulated your style or I copied your style. What do you think or whatever like? I think, that’s amazing, because that’s how you find what works for you, one of my biggest style inspirations, has been Jen plans and I will leave her Instagram down below. If you are interested.
She also has a youtube blog, which I will link for you guys if you see her style, it’s very different than this, but this is kind of how I came to this conclusion. She has a lot more white space than I do typically in her weeks, and she does do some of the decorative icons. But I definitely do a lot more and I did try out her style like exactly for the longest time, and I just figured you know what I love that style.
It really works for me. I, like true times of you, know I work and then I put my washi in and then you know. At the end of the day, I cut my washi and then I put in what’s going on and what’s happening, but for me I wanted a little bit more decoration in mine and some of you may see this and go oh, my gosh. This is so overwhelming. I don’t know how you’re getting anything done and some of you may see this and go.
This is super boring? Yes, oh everyone has a different way of doing things, but finding that person or that account or several accounts, either on Instagram or Facebook or whatever and just kind of using those as like, okay. Well, I’ve never thought of doing it this way, but maybe I should try this and see how it works. For me, in my life you know Jenna and I actually know each other. We’ve met a few times now, but you know she’s a busy mom.
She works outside the home. She is married and also has three kids and a dog, so her life is so different than mine, but I could still take inspiration from what she has done and what has worked well for her style. So I just kind of took her style and revamped it for myself, because that’s really at the end of the day, what you have to do, you have to figure out what works for you and not necessarily worry about what everybody else thinks of your planner.
Your planner is for you and no one else. I, however, really like to make mine pretty I do have you know a blog online. However, I don’t have to share this stuff. If I don’t want to so you know, I just really enjoy sharing it, and I make it pretty because I want to make it pretty. You know I’m not really doing anything for the camera any longer. I’m really doing it because I love it so anyways. This is another week, that’s all filled in I’m going to flip a little bit more here and show you some other things that have really helped me we’re into August already.
Oh my gosh. So this is actually this week. This is today, and hopefully I’m going to get this up sweet so as I went through this week, so these are kind of like the Emily Leigh colors. So I kind of did a little bit of rainbow and then over here is just kind of whatever. But what I have done – and I’ve actually done this – this is how the conversation started with Ryan yesterday is what I have done, and not what I was explaining to him is that I went through the majority of the weeks for the next year and just put In my work and anything else that I knew was happening so like a birthday or like right here, oh I have a giveaway on Monday.
I don’t think this article is going to be up by Monday, but you never know, and I have like a girls night with my friends Megan. I jazz – and you know like there’s stuff in here and like my trash day, there’s stuff in here that I already know that’s going to happen. So if I lay this down, it’s so much easier for me that then, like mentally throughout the week, come upstairs to my office and then like fill in the evenings or anything that needed to happen in the day time or what’s happening in the weekend or what’s Coming up so that’s really helpful for me to like pre-plan at least the things that I know, and even if say this the day of the 8th.
You know I’m off work or something I can lift this up and I can put in something else. It’s not a problem, but my biggest challenge was just starting with a blank page and not even having like my work in there and then it’s like gosh. Now I have to think about what I want to do. I got to think about what theme I want to go with and about a month ago I ended up. I think it was actually the July 4th weekend.
I just was super inspired and started just planning out my weeks and it’s just making my life so much easier cuz. I don’t have to think about it anymore, so yeah, but then like here, I’m going to be on a road trip with my mom like the last half of this, but I am working over here. So yeah it’s just like, let’s just put in the things and then also like, I have other things going on so like I found out that the wild collab sale is going to be the 22nd through the 25th.
So I just kind of put a little sticky in here and then these little sticky notes are from Erin Condren and then I have another planner meetup, which I haven’t put in here yet and yeah. I even put in like all my budgeting things and anything that I know is in here like Labor Day Patriot day I’ll put in, and then you know I’ll, just put in little page markers for the things that are kind of pending ish, like I’m going to Go to state 4 with my mom and all that good stuff.
So yeah, I don’t know, I just think like this is going to work really well for me in the end that I don’t really need to think anymore. Oh maybe that’s the theme of this articles. Like I don’t need to think about it anymore, but I just really like the way that this feels I’m putting in all my paydays, I’m typically putting in laundry clearly. If I don’t necessarily do the laundry that day, I can still lift this stuff up and I could put it somewhere else without an issue.
I still have some weeks that I don’t have anything which is totally fine and you know I’m still consuming products, I’m still buying things, because I can’t help myself, but you know at that point I was like you know, I’m not sure what I want to do For that week, so I just skipped it, and then this one was actually blank until the other day, and I got my simply gilded box, the one with the malls – and this is the Stardust.
What was in there and I’m like this – is beautiful. I love it. So yeah, but I don’t have I’m out of my little work stickers and I haven’t decided which scallop boxes I want to use for this color palette just yet, but clearly I have until September, to figure it out, there’s also a grilled cheese festival in Minneapolis. I’m really excited about that plus there’s going to be one. So you know I want to go to that um, but yeah, but I like got like I’m going all the way into the end, so yeah there’s like a mother Blanc, one here well, this is a little bit.
Funky um here is like a little spooky one for you know, October and then into the next month. I’ve only done this, but this is like the actual Halloween Day, but yeah. So I mean I’ve obviously put like my dog’s monthly meds, that kind of stuff. You know like this is just like helping my mind work and I hope that this might help. One of you know, hopefully one of you out there, maybe the several of you.
I don’t know, but this is just really like working for me and yes, I’ve already made the decisions and yes, I can’t really use any new stuff, but that’s why I left a few weeks blank. So I think that’ll work pretty well for me and then like into December. I have well this is in December, but it’s actually the week of Thanksgiving, but I have some of this written down. I don’t know what I’m doing for Thanksgiving, probably hopefully nothing cuz.
That’s just my jam yeah, and this is like the first full week of December. Oh also, I got a question from Ryan. When I was we didn’t, you know we were flipping through this he’s like what are these little things mean over here and they’re, my paydays. That’s what they mean. You might not be able to see that one very well, but this one you can soulfully see but yeah. Those are my paydays, so I just keep track of that on my little thing there but yeah.
You know I don’t have anything there. This is the week of Hanukkah, so I wanted to use lots of Blues to celebrate and then the lights all that good stuff. This is the week of Christmas, which I think is so cute, and I used this kit, not a kit but like a couple of sticker sheets from one town and a million which I thought were super cute. This washes from 110 and a million of this washes from 110 and a million, and then this little green band is signifying my coworker is off, but it’s actually from one of the Erin Condren sticker books, I think from a long time ago, but it had the Gold and it had the right green tone – and I was like – let’s do it so anyway, but yeah I mean I’m going all the way into everything for this.
So this one’s really cute, which I love this one’s actually my birthday week, so this is January 9th – is my birthday yeah and I I’m also. I don’t even think I brought this up yet, but I’m also trying to stay motivated with bringing my lunches to work. So I got these really cute little like lunchboxes and then like on my birthday I’ll, probably go out, but whatever so yeah. This is the week of Doyle birthday.
This is Doyle’s birthday right there. It’s also my brother’s birthday, so yeah, but you know I just I’m loving the way that this is working for my brain and you know. I hope that you guys get a little bit of inspiration from this as well. It’s so cute. This is Valentine’s, even though I don’t have a final time, but that’s alright. This is a Valentine’s Day and then into March. I’ve done a few things love the way.
This looks it’s like huh, more springy, and then we’ve got st. Patrick’s Day week. So I mean I don’t know I just I just really like the way this looks, and I hope that you guys to do as well this one’s like a galaxy theme, which I love this washi, it’s like a sample that I had and then um. I don’t know I use this like art, deco II washi as well, so maybe I’m going to just stop it there. There are more weeks that I have filled out, but once I get into May I really haven’t done anything because you know if I get new stuff, I want to be able to use it.
I just prep ahead and that’s just been working really well for me and how this whole planner piece thing works for my brain.
