How To Build Your Online Presence Using a Cool Web Tool – S2 – Episode #1

First, go to w-w-w dot, maas that’s M 0 Z, dot com forward, slash local, I repeat: w-w-w dot, Maas moc that comp or slash local and Mars has been beautified once you go to this website right down or inter your business name and the zip code.

For your business, once you do that, you will see two options: the first option, if you are already listed it, will give you some type of a score like let’s say twenty percent or forty percent for local online visibility and at the same time it will give You some suggestion on how to improve that and make it, let’s say more than seventy five percent. So if you see that go ahead, do your best to fix those issues.

Moz will show you how it will also show you the incomplete content that you probably missed, and what you can do to make all of them. One hundred percent. Okay, once you do that make sure you have to log in on every listing, like you have to log into Google, to bring to yahoo Yelp foursquare. Now, if you don’t have access to those, you can actually claim them. Then we access them. Now, if you don’t have any listing basically mas said 0, your business address, your business name does not exist locally on the search engine.

Now you have to create those listing. This is very essential because when you do this, what’s going to happen that it will help you with the search engine, it will help you to get more exposure. It will help you to generate targeted leads so make sure you do that now make sure you open your world document, notepad openoffice googled office. What about the kissing me just open one and start writing down all your information.

The information I’m talking about are your business name, the description of your business, all the contact information, your phone number, business phone, number cell phone number, email, address, website, social media websites, hours of operation, types of payment that you take five to ten images of your office Or of your business of your product and the proper category basically select the proper category, each listing might have a little bit different.

So if I’m a doctor or let’s say a dentist, I’m going to pick like a new health, medical dentist and so forth. One thing I can remember that the information for your business name, the phone number, the description all have to be exactly the same. If I type let’s say crazy, ninja dentist, I have to make sure that the same sentence, if I put all of them in upper case – let’s say in Google+ and all over them in lower case on y’all, it can cause some sort of conflict.

So what I mean make sure that all of them are exactly the same. So that’s why, if you write them down on a notepad or warm documents, you can just copy paste for those of you who didn’t have the list in the first place as soon as you submit them, google, bing, yahoo, yelp and Foursquare, they will send you some Type of postcard, like within 7 to 10 days and days once you get it, take it and enter them on those listing.

There is to the other listing like citysearch and superpages. They will actually verify your information while you actually submit it so make sure you have the right phone number, because when they call you, you have to answer right away. Is it easy? Is it real, easy? Well good question? It is easy, but unfortunately it’s a time-consuming. So let’s say again: you’re very busy: you don’t have the time to do it.

You can actually have Mars. Do it for you for an affordable price and I believe they do it once every year. You’ll be surprised how much they charge. So the choice is yours, but because your local business owners – this is the basic. This is the most important thing that every business should actually do, because your customer do exist there and it does help with the search engine. Really it doesn’t really cost that much.

So please go ahead and do that today and if you need any help, let me know share those linked with me and I will basically help you until exactly. Where did you miss? Because you know I love to help and I really want you to succeed because you succeed, part of me has part of me have succeeded now. It’s your turn. The Different Roles of Production

The scriptwriter is while in charge of writing the scripts. This includes things like writing down the town’s lines, the directions and the camera angles. You want to use the director is a person in charge for directing their crew. Their job is to visualize how the article plays out and then guide the actors and crews to fulfill that vision.

The producer is usually the person who oversees the production of the article. The producer is usually on a higher level than the director lighting. Their job is to set up the lights correctly and make sure the talent is well lit, as well as the background. The articlegraphers are in charge of setting up the camera in the right angle. Focusing the shot and making sure it looks good talent is what you called a person who is starring in the article like me, right now we’re in charge of presenting our lines to you, the viewers, the person in charge of audio, is responsible for monitoring the sound Levels of the talent by making sure there’s a go too low or too high.

Let’s go copies in right now. The editor is a person who’s in charge of compiling all the footage and putting it together into one article. Effective Sales Communication and Sales Skills with Catherine Molloy

My name is John golden from sails pop online sales magazine and pipeliner CRM here in a lovely sunny San Diego afternoon and I’m delighted to be joined by Catherine Malloy, who was on the Sunshine Coast in Australia. Tomorrow, I’m here Thursday afternoon, Catherine’s there, Friday morning, bright and early. So I really appreciate you getting up early to talk with us today: Catherine’s international speaker and communication expert, 25 years of experience in business training and facilitation, and especially in especially in communication and neuro-linguistic programming.

I think you have your degree in as well as obviously all your business experience and what we wanted to talk today is how to optimize communication when it comes to sales, but not just in the traditional sense of face-to-face, but in all the ways that challenge salespeople Nowadays, in virtual communication, even in I mean people says, people in are communicating with prospects through text. We’re going to say excel mean what about what challenges are facing people today in figuring out how to be effective in their communication, when people are communicating in so many different ways.

Catherine, I always like to ask a big question and then just sit back. You know it’s really important. We all need to upgrade the number one skill on the planet and that’s communication, and so many businesses closed down because they don’t really know how to communicate to the customer. Now. The interesting thing is, technology has changed the way we grow food eat food, buy food, our furniture for our offices, all these wonderful things, but guess what the raw behavior styles of people haven’t changed, and I think this is the key to the way that we build Sales now I actually wrote a book called the million dollar handshake.

It’s just been published in three languages. It only was really. Last year, it’s in the northern and southern hemisphere. We’ve just picked up some books from England, they’ve released them under Seven Dials. We’ve got hash. Ed we’ve got two other companies releasing them around the world as well, and it really is about the way that we can make ourselves feel a million dollars. The way that we can make our customers feel great and create that win-win situation.

So when you say interesting thing is when, when you say, rob raw behavior style, what do you mean? Okay, so I’ve got a quote here that I wrote. What you believe doesn’t make you a better person mm-hmm. The way you behave does sure, because what we believe isn’t always right now we have natural behavior styles. I can connect and communicate with anyone anywhere. I went to China and within two days how to contract I’ve been back there every year to speak for the translators Association in the foreign ministers.

Now everyone says it’s very, very hard to get a deal in China takes a long time. I’ve worked in Saudi Arabia, UAE lots of countries that you know it’s. It’s got a lot of different culture, ruler aspects that we need to know about, so it really is about being intelligent when it comes to communication, so we do need to you know. What are you doing to upgrade your number-one skills in communication and I’m a body language expert, and I truly believe this is why I get better results with what I do so we need to study.

We need to learn. We need to immerse ourselves in communication and when we understand behavior styles, whether that person is dominant, are they breathing fast? Are they commanding whether they’re influential and they want you to be their best friend? They want you to like them. They want to tell you everything. That’s happening or whether perhaps are a little bit more steady and they need to build that relationship with you, so hopeful they’re going to give you anything.

So how can I go on last but not least, they might be the person that really wants all the facts and figures before anything is going to happen. Now you have a natural way that you want to do business yeah, but that might not suit the other. 75 % of people mm-hmm, so once you start to understand how you can connect and communicate, we can also do this through our emails, our social media, etc, but we’ll get into that in a little bit.

Sorry, what was the first question was, so how does a salesperson or anyone else? How did they establish there very quickly or early on the type of person they’re dealing with and the Preferences that that person has for how they want to be communicated with fabulous? It’s about being conscious. The first thing you need to do, though, is understand your behavior style. You need to understand your domino effect in every communication that you have, and you know it’s interesting because body language is in every communication experience you’ll ever have even when you’re typing that email you’re going to have a certain body language coming through, even when you’re speaking Even right now, when we’re speaking to each other or when we meet someone face to face, so we’ve got to start to understand who we are and even in in my book here I have a PDF, you can download, you can fill in or you can fill It in straight from the book and start to understand who you are, how you connecting communicates, what is going to be the best way for you, because, let’s face it, if you have a business, everyone in your business, you want them to be a salesperson for your Team mm-hmm people hate the word sales and we need to get over that.

If you don’t sell, you don’t have a business yeah. Well, what I always say what I would say to people when they have a problem with the whole sales moniker is, I say you can call yourself whatever you want, but guess what the person you’re selling to they know you’re a salesperson. We have to remember that as well, and you know I always think to sell is to serve because if someone comes to you or you go to someone and you don’t provide that service for them, then you haven’t really served them.

Have you know and a lot of people you’ll go and buy something, and then you go home and someone will say: oh, you should have got this or this or you could add that to it. They didn’t even tell you about it. Now you’ve got to waste. Your time going back to fine that what you need and perhaps you’ll go somewhere somewhere else because they didn’t satisfy your needs. So what are what are some of the simple body? Language cues? That you can pick up on the either about yourself or about the person that you’re communicating with okay.

So the first thing I’ll talk about is yourself mm-hmm, okay, very important to understand the cultures you’re going into because body language is different around the world. You know if you did this here in Australia that would be okay or on Facebook. You might like it in India, maybe you’re going to get a 7-up if you’re a scuba, diving – and you said yeah, I’m okay, they’d shoot you to the top. You’d have to do that if you did that in some countries, they’d be very rude and you might get you know put in jail.

So it’s really important number one to understand that, but there’s a few things that we can do that will make a difference anywhere with anyone. So a lot of salespeople you’ll ask them a question or a customer service and they might go like this. Oh yes, do this now straightaway we know they’ve got a pain in the neck and they’re, not really sure, and when somebody does that I go, would you please you know find out for me it’s very very important because I know straightaway they don’t really know mm-hmm.

Now body language is very subjective. If I touch my nose now, it’s probably because it’s freezing, cold and and it wants to drip right – or perhaps I want to sneeze or maybe ever smelt – something really bad. But what’s interesting is most time when salespeople are speaking. They touch their nose because they’re a little frustrated and uncomfortable right now so you’ll see people online, telling you how fantastic their product is it’s true and when they do that, I know at that time: they’re not comfortable with it.

Now I can train people not to touch their face to make great eye contact, not to blink a hundred times, but you know what I rather coach them to understand: why they have a frustration they’re. What makes them uncomfortable mm-hmm and if it’s not great for the customer, what can you do to make it great for the customer, because those frustrations and movements will go away once you have great product knowledge and – and you believe in the benefit to that customer yeah? No, I totally agree with you.

I think it’s an interesting it’s an interesting concept that you brought up there, because I do think that how you present yourself, how you go into a room, how you go online, whatever, how you’re feeling and how you approach it is going to translate in one way Or the other yeah, obviously through nonverbal communications and through and through how you sound and – and so you kind of have to make up your mind before you start about.

How do you want to show up right correct? Absolutely we react in 125th of a second before we speak, and that’s why husbands and wives can fight for two days without saying a word because of the raise of an eyebrow at the wrong time. And this happens in your offices as well, and you might even see a client, you know, and you think, oh here they come again. What am I going to do and straightaway you’ve told them that even before you’ve opened your mouth and that’s why we have so much miscommunication? And you know it’s interesting because when we’re talking about behavior styles, before even in your emails, you can start to tell who the person is.

Are they dot pointing do they want you to do this this and this? Are they, after your facts and figures, do they put Smiley’s everywhere because they want you to be happy with them, you know, or are they going to tell you all about everything and you don’t even really understand what is that question they want right, but it starts To tell you who they are yeah, and I guess then the worst thing you can do right if, for instance, right if you email me with very concise bullet points – and this is what you want and I email you back a novel right, I’m we’re pretty misaligned Right, correct, correct, so it really is about, like I believe, to sell, is to serve and when you do find out who that customer is because they’ll, let you know you’ll hear it in their voice.

You’ll see it online, you might meet them face-to-face or you’ll. Get it through that email, you start to find out who they are and you need to respond, so you need to match them because guess what there’ll be something about you that they like, but they won’t know what it is right. That’s actually the fact that you will like them, people like like: don’t they yeah they do. I was telling someone. I was interviewing somebody of the day and they tell me this this interesting story.

I think they were. They would right, along with the salesperson right and the salesperson, got a text from their prospect and immediately they picked up the phone and started calling them calling the prospect and the prospect was like. Well. Can you just text me back and the coach turned round and said: why did you call him when he texted you clearly that’s how he wanted you to communicate so you’ve got a match: people’s communication style.

You do, and I do believe, though, that someone might email you in asking for information and you, if you just email that back guess what you might lose that deal, because you haven’t been able to speak or add value. So in that text that you send back. You could say: look I’d, love to have a quick chat just to do a discovery and make sure what would be the best time for you so text them, email them back in their format, but think in that time that you can actually do a real discovery.

In that value, no absolutely I no 100 % agree, but don’t presume that you can just switch their mode just like that without any. I remember somebody wanted me and they sent me a message, a message, err and then they sent me something on LinkedIn and then they sent me an email and by the time we were supposed to meet. I had no idea where I had to go to get the information so surprised they didn’t turn up outside your window.

The placard [ Laughter ] in those situations. You know you’re responding, I’m messenger been LinkedIn there. You know it’s like. Oh, let’s agree to to have which is the best form of communication for you, but don’t think just to come back to, because I think it’s it’s a really really fundamental and an important point and not just for sales. But I think in the world that we live in today, because communication has gotten so messed up is that we all have to start with ourselves right.

The onus is on us to to to be conscious of how we communicate and how we show up, and rather than put the rather than as it seems, the trend in the world today is to push everything off on everybody else and say: well, it’s all about Everybody else’s fault, but it’s you got to start with yourself right, absolutely and look the reason that after all these years, we are still such bad communicators, no matter how many forms of communication we create is, I believe, there’s a couple things with human nature and we Understand it once we understand the behavior styles, each one will have their own little basements that we have to work through.

Ah, but there’s a thing called ego, hmm and also laziness, and I believe, when you’re a salesperson, you really want to eradicate those two things – and you know, laziness is just sending out spraying information to everybody. If you’re a salesperson which we all are, we need to have that communication, we need to pick up the phone, we need to ask questions and not just read someone create a story for that person.

Oh, I don’t want to disturb them or they’re too busy. You know one of my biggest clients, I got them as a contact first of all and I get a lot of business through LinkedIn, so it is great out there and I contacted them and they said, Oh fantastic. Can you send, through some information, sent that through months later, did my follow-up are yeah we’re not ready yet you know please get back in contact with us, so I’d I read for six months following up and contact them and then I said because we’ve start to Build a bit of a relationship, I said, I’m so sorry, I’m feeling like a stalker.

Do you still want me to communicate with you? Yes, yes, but that’s that was that person’s behavior style there was Ned eNOS, it’s going to take them a little longer. Thirteen months later, we sealed the deal mm-hmm five hundred thousand dollars worth of training that was ongoing over the next 18 months. So the interesting thing is that we feel we should give up or we could make stories or they don’t really want want this.

But you don’t know unless you ask the question: no make up story that just leaves us. Oh, what can we do? Yeah? No exactly, but it’s a great point, because it’s it’s because people do have a tendency to you know either to give up, and I think the point that you came up about did you meant laziness is a good one. It’s because, unfortunately, again coming back to technology, we’ve spoiled we’re spoiled with all these spray-and-pray spam tools out there.

So I could sit here all day and I can fire out stuff all over the place and if nobody comes back to me or I can just put them into nurture Kanban – and I don’t have to do anything right – I can sit down then I can go Well, I’m trying I’m really trying I’m doing follow-up but nobody’s contacting me. So it’s not my fault again. I’ve got this great little thing that I’d love to share with your listeners yeah, and I call it digger and I believe, if you are a sales person getting paid for Commission, we’re not always the best with admin and paperwork.

So I truly believe setting up the night before so that when you come in the next morning, you can just now those first three things you know, we’ve all heard you know swallow the frog eat the spider, doing the things you don’t really want to do. First up but digger in Australia were the men that went to war and they they had a person with them that helped them get through everything. And you know that was like the word mate and in Australia, and you don’t call anyone a digger even if they they’re your mate, because that was war and, like I lost my grand-grandfather there as well.

But digger for me is daily income generating activity, say that again daily income generating activity, and so that’s my best mate in business. So I write down three things: each day, whether it’s doing the blog, whether it’s doing the article, whether it’s making a hot call, a cold call, maybe getting some of those warm leads. But every day you should be doing something that really will bring in money.

For the business yeah yeah, I think that’s a fantastic piece of advice because I think we’re all very good, sometimes at busy work or finding things to occupy our day and sometimes avoiding the tea. As you say, the digger the daily income generating activities first time because they maybe are the harder things to do yeah yep, and we get that out the way. Then the the day’s amazing plus it starts to unfold.

You know – and it really is, if we want to be successful in business, we need to upgrade that number one skill of communication. Well, that’s fantastic, perfect way to bookend the conversation here, Catherine, we’re bumping up against the end of our time, but before we go I’d like you to tell people a little bit more about yourself what you do and how they can learn, learn more about you! Oh okay, fabulous so obviously Catherine Malloy and I am an international speaker.

I work all around the world and I speak in communication and body language because I really believe in business growth. I wrote the book, the million dollar handshake, because what happened was ten years ago. My husband felt very ill. We had to sell our business, we lost over a million dollars that was tied up in the belly business. We had three children still at a private school and we were then left with a big mortgage on the house.

That also left us with no jobs, so there was a big decision time and I was sort of that person that I thought wow. This is almost a chance to to open the door to what’s possible in life. What do I really really wanted to and back when I was 21, I started studying body language by the age of 22. I was topping sales in Westpac, one of our biggest banks here in Australia, and I really understood how that product knowledge equalled customer service and from customer service sales cloud.

But when you could understand people and not just read body language and make up stories for them. But understand what your body language was communing communicating to others. Then I really started to Nollan and I went into training. I wasn’t having children, my husband said he couldn’t have kids and we had three and four years so that kind of changed everything sounds like you learned plenty, but anyway it was interesting.

So I started this business as pack business advantage and it was really dealing with soft skills. We also had government funding to deliver diploma of leadership management, so I wrote units for that. I won awards in management and leadership of won awards in America with our Stevie. For our sales and leadership training and I also wrote the conscious connection framework, which won a pacific award back in 2017.

So what we’re doing was making a big difference for four people, and so now, we’ve also with our million dollar handshake book, because in my first year of business by myself, I signed over a million dollars in training deals face to face. So that’s how that began. It’s got body language, the handshakes, behaviors mindsets and how to connect and communicate with anyone anywhere taste other’s stories and there’s online training at the end of each chapter.

So if you want to go a bit deeper in any of those you can you can download PDFs for your team for your family. I just really want to get this message out to as many people as possible and now a third of that book goes to our charity that I started in 2010. When I started my business, I said to my husband, ten percents going to charity and he’s like you can’t we’ve lost all this money. I said I need that because for me I need to be doing more than just just for us and now a third of it goes to our charities in Uganda and this year.

We’re writing a book of life worth leading and we’re also working with doctors in Mumbai for cancer patients, children that would actually die because they don’t have money for to treat cancer and now they’re getting 12 months in this amazing hospital being looked after with their families. Coming in so that they can go on with their lives as well, so I think that once we use our skills to the best that we can yeah, we can make a difference anyway.

That’s fantastic! Well there. So it sounds like you’re. You know you’ve got a lot of spare time on your hands, Katherine well, yeah, that’s really! Quite a fantastic, obviously scatter malloy calm, a you. We will have your profile on sales pop, so people can learn more about you and I and the book will be up there too, and congratulations on all your Awards and the fantastic were charity work that you’re doing it’s been a great conversation.

STOP Boosting Facebook Posts | Do This Instead

We can go in and say, hey, we want article views or we want comments likes and shares, or we want people to go to this website or we want people to go into Facebook messenger with a boosted post, you’re, not telling them that. So you can. You can get into audience targeting a little bit. You can go into the budget. You can do some of those things but you’re, not tong Facebook, exactly what you want to accomplish so you’re in goal of getting leads, which is probably what you’re going to want to do.

We’re growing an audience of some sort, you’re not going to accomplish that right. So, let’s dive into Facebook and just see what I’m talking about here. So I’m on my facebook business page, and so I have this post that I posted the other day. And so, if I wanted to boost this post, I would obviously go to my page and there’s this blue post button here. So we would boost this post and come in here and what we can say right here would be.

You know we’re looking at our audience right and so for this. It’s get more messages, because I have a send message, but here you can come in here and change. This basically get more views or get more message, and that’s really the only option that Facebook allows here. So if I scroll down here, I can go in and edit the audience. I can make this a little bit more specific. I can use custom audiences.

I can go and change the audience that I’m that I’m going to that I’m going to target essentially right, then I can go into the budget, the budget. You know you can do daily budget and then put that for a length of time or on an end date. Facebook really just wants this to be as easy as possible for their end user to create an ad. That’s the reason that boosting a post lives. That’s the reason it exists.

However, like I like I said earlier, it’s just not the best way to go in tell Facebook exactly what we want right, because if we had a link with a website here and I wanted them to go to a website – I cannot necessarily say I want to Traffic right or I want that kind of thing, so it really limits you on what your, what you can do, you can go and edit placements you can do some audience targeting you can choose the budget, you can add your Facebook pixel.

You can’t choose your account and then you would just choose boost post, but what? If? What? If we could go into Facebook Ads manager and select exactly what we want to do right? So if we click on create here, we can see all of the objectives that facebook gives us, so just a lot more options and we can tell Facebook exactly what we want to accomplish with our app. So if we wanted to do messages, we could do that and we can customize it a little bit using mini chat and do a JSON ad and shoot them exactly what we want them to see in messenger.

From the ad that I just had. You can’t necessarily do that within a boosted post right. You can’t go in and do it JSON at if you’re wondering what that is I’ll link that somewhere around this article in the description or in a card. If you want to do a messenger ad properly, but other things that you can do, you can do lead generation. So if you want to do a lead form or to acquire name email phone number, you could do a lead generation from that.

If you wanted to do article views’, you would do engagement. If you want more likes comments and shares on that post, you would do a page post engagement here as well right, so you would do post engagement, page likes event responses. If you wanted article views, you would come in here and choose that if you will have a landing page or a website and you wanted to acquire leads there, you would use conversions.

If you want traffic, you would send them there. So in this case, what we’re going to do is, let’s say engagement. You want the most amount of likes comments and shares on your ad, so we would choose engagement here and we’re going to do post engagement right because we don’t want page likes or event responses. So we’re going to do I call this PPE page post engagement, sub, page post engagement and then from here you know the we call this example.

You call it what it is so page post, engagement and then the date is the 7th. So we would continue here and we can go into the audience. You can do this within a boosted posts as well. So I’m not going to go too far in depth here, but then under the identity. What you can do is, if you want to create a new hat. You can totally do that, but if you’re wanting to boost that posts, those on your Facebook page, you have a post that you want to get more likes comments and shares on right.

If, if I wanted to quote-unquote boost this post or use this post as an ad, I would not boost it. I would come in to Facebook Ads. Do page post engagement like I showed you and then I would use an existing post and then I would select that post right. So I would come here and then I would choose that exact post. So the same post that I have on my business page right here, I can use within Facebook ads manager and continue with that as my ad right.

So, if you wanted to do say, I did have a link here. I could go back to the objective and send traffic to that link, or I could use a conversions campaign to acquire, leads and track that through Facebook. That’s something that you can’t do with a boosted post right. So just make sure that you are aware of your options and make sure that you’re using your money wisely, because, if you’re just using a boosted post you’re using a shotgun approach to your Facebook ads and we want a lasered dialed-in approach.

We want to tell Facebook exactly what we want to accomplish and then go accomplish that with our Facebook Ads, because if you have any questions on that comment in the comments below happy to help, you guys answer any of those questions. I have recently been involved in quite a few discussions and visual things on knives, and I want to put this in the basic series so that people understand why I choose the types of nice that I choose.

Why. I think that some knives are more favorable over other knives and then also I want to talk to you about things that you see on the internet, about different knives, and one thing that I want you to understand right off. The bat is, if you are reading a review of any piece of gear, it doesn’t matter whether it is a knife or what it is. If you’re reading a review, somebody saying I’m going to review this piece of equipment.

First of all, look at what conditioning equipments in if it’s brand new chances are they’ve, never used it. How can they review it? Number two look at that person’s overall skill level. Have you readed any of their other articles to see what their skill level is? As a woodsman as a bushcrafter as a survivalist, and that would lead you to believe either hey this guy knows a little bit about what he’s talking about or maybe not so much and that’s what you need to understand.

I see a lot of reviews on YouTube and I don’t read many because a lot of times I’d flat turn them off I’ll, be honest with you fi. If I pull up a article, let’s just take a knife review. For instance, if I pull a knife review up on YouTube and the knife looks brand new, I generally shut the article off if it’s laying on a table and it’s not in the woods or the guy’s, not using it to do something with and he’s just talking About the knife, I generally turn it off.

The other thing is, I look to see what the guy’s skill level is, while he’s using that knife, if he’s using it – and I will tell you now that if you take the crappiest bud, K knife on the planet and you put a good sharp edge on It and you take a nice Mora that cost 20 bucks and you put a good edge on it and you take any given knife that meets the criteria that we’re going to talk about, and you sharpen that thing up.

It doesn’t matter if it cost three or four hundred dollars. If you put all three of those knives in the hands of more Skowronski he’s going to make every one of them look like a knife. You’d want to buy because his skill level and his expertise at fine carving and things like that are so precise and so good and so well, honed that he makes it look natural, no matter what he’s using the deal with. On the other hand, if you take that same set of knives – and you put them in the hands of someone of lesser skill level, much less skill level, it doesn’t matter how good the knife is they’re going to make that knife look bad and it could look Like something you don’t want to buy, even if it might be something, that’s very good.

So I want you to think about those things when you’re looking at articles of a knife reviews and things like that, because some of what we’re going to do today is going to be talking about knives right in front of you. Some of its going to be we’re going to demonstrate some things with the knives pros and cons of the different knives. One thing that you will never see me do with a knife and it’s another thing that I turn it completely off as soon as I see it in a article is you’ll, never see me, take a 5 or 6 inch blade and chop with it.

There’s absolutely! No reason to chop with a knife: that’s not meant for chopping! If you want a chopping knife, get a machete get a Chris Kane survival tool, get a goal lock get a poor wrong, get a kakari, get something that’s made for chopping and processing, wood or vines or bamboo or whatever the case may be, but don’t use a 5 6 inch knife to smack around and try to chop with and make excuses that the handle is not long enough or that you need to move it up and choke back and put a lanyard on it.

So you don’t let go of it and get more leverage on the blade. That’s bunk, okay, you should never have to chop with a knife. That’s not made to chop with that. Knife should be used to baton through material or to push through material by using different types of cuts, not swung like some kind of axe or a machete. That’s what you want! That’s what you buy! That’s the next thing that we need to talk about in this article is understand before you buy a knife.

What is that knife going to do for me versus what do I want that knife to do for me and I get a lot of questions from a lot of people about you know: what’s the best survival knife out there? Well, the patented answer to that is the one you have on you in a survival scenario, but that leads you right back to that’s, probably the knife you bought to begin with. So did you buy the right knife and when I look at that, what I want to tell you is, I look at any knife that I’m going to strap to my hip on a daily basis as a survival knife, because chances are that’s the knife I’m going To get stuck with in an emergency because I put it on my hip every single day and I’m not going to lose it so with that said, I need to make sure that whatever knife I’m going to select a carry every day is going to be a Knife that is multifunctional in an emergency scenario.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a chopper, because a big chopper is not going to be good at fine carving. It doesn’t necessarily have to be great at fine carving, because it’s not going to be very good for batana processing would necessarily it has to be capable of a lot of things. It has to be capable of processing game. It has to be capable of processing wood. It has to be capable of the fine carving, but it also has to be capable of making bigger logs smaller pieces so that you can create things like pencil sized sticks from a 4-inch log.

If you have to or just split things out when you absolutely have to so that knife has to do a lot of things for you and has to cover a lot of bases, if you go back to my article on knives of the frontier or you know, The kind of history of knives that have been used throughout time you’ll see that really the most common denominator is about a five to six inch blade, at least in the United States, about a five to six inch blade and some type of a butcher knife design.

Either a European butchering knife or an Americanized version of a butchery knife or a French version of the butchering knife and those type blade designs, lend themselves well to a lot of different things for the woodsman. That’s why they use them. That’s why they were around four to three hundred years. That’s the reason. Some of them are still made today so understand what you want to do with that knife.

It’s a back up knife that you’re buying you’re going to put your backpack. Then maybe it doesn’t have to be that perfect knife. That’s going to do everything, maybe you’re buying a backup knife only for you know the trap line you’re going to make your money cuts with and you’re going to keep that thing. Razor sharp and it’s going to be a perfect blade for you to make those precision cuts that you have to make not to mess up a fur on an animal, or maybe it’s going to be your bush crafting knife that you’re going to put in your in Your backpack and you’re going to keep that thing with you to do your fine, carving and making feather sticks and doing those little fancy things that we do in bushcraft, but does that lend itself to a good survival knife? Maybe yes, maybe no depends on if it meets the criteria that you decided needs to meet for me.

I have certain criteria that I look at in a knife and we’ll talk about that right now, okay, so let’s get started on our knife discussion here a little bit and let’s talk about it, I’ve got a table or a bench of knives here. Basically, that are all knives that I have personally used over and over and over and over none of these knives are brand new. All of these knives have been tested thoroughly in a wilderness environment for a lot of different tasks.

So I can tell you, I feel confident that I can tell you what the pros and cons are of these type knives. Now the first thing that you need to think about when you’re selecting a knife is again back to what is that knife going to do for me versus what do I want it to do for me so for the sake of this discussion, because we’re talking about Basic concepts: let’s talk about this is the knife I’m going to strap to my tip, and this is the knife that I’m probably going to end up with.

If everything goes bad, I lose all of my gear that knife is going to be shot to my hip and it’s going to be my only tool that I have to use to affect my survivability and there is a big difference between that and a bushcraft knife That you carry in your pack as a spare where you put it around your neck or where the case may be totally against putting knives around my neck, but that’s beside the point: okay, so blade thickness.

That is your first key element to me. A knife that’s going to be used for a multitude of tasks needs to be 3/16 of an inch thick at a minimum. I do carry knives personally that are only 1/8 of an inch thick. This three dollar butcher knife from a yard sale is only a little over an eighth of an inch thick. It’s not quite 3/16. So if I had to measure it, you know it’s right in between there, but it doesn’t quite meet my minimum standard.

Although I’ve used this knife for everything under the Sun, so I’m pretty confident that in its ability to sustain me, it needs be this butcher. Knife is 3/16. This is the habilis Pathfinder butcher knife it’s 3/16, so 3/16 is a good thickness to start out with now. Let’s talk about why not at 8:10, it’s okay! Because generally what you’ll find is most knives will be 1/8 inch 3/16 and then quarter inch 1/8 inch.

Knife is going to have a lot of flexibility in it if the metal is tempered correctly and it may Bend on you or snap on you, depending on again the temper of the knife. I’ve never broken an old hickory butcher knife and they’re eighth of an inch thick. So an eighth of an inch knife can do the job for you, but it’s not going to be near as rigid or good for prying. If you have to do things like that, that’s 3/16, so there’s a little bit of a trade-off there.

I would say my personal opinion is 3/16 for beginning knife, though it’s going to be the one night that you buy to keep on your hip, and this is where you’re going to put all your eggs. Okay, in my opinion again, this is just my opinion. Your knife should be your most expensive item in your kit for the most part, or you should have the majority of your budget set aside for your knife, because that’s what you’re really going to stake your life on with that knife, you can’t do everything else.

If you have to as long as you have the skill level now remember during this article, there’s I’m not talking bad about any knife makers, I’m not talking about about any people who review knives on TV on on YouTube or use knives on TV. All I’m saying to you is: these: are my standards? These are the knives that I choose, and this is why you can make your own decision from what we’re talking about once we get beyond the thickness of the blade, then we need to talk about.

The tang is a full, tang, absolutely necessary. In other words, is it one piece of solid metal that the scales are both the two on both sides? Almost all of these knives, all of these knives are full tang, the knives I have over here or not again. I go back to if I’m going to get stuck with this one, and I have no other tools. I may have to do things like prying, hitting hard on the back of the spine, with a baton of some sort to process firewood.

All those types of things lend themselves to a weakness in a rat tail Tang knife, because it’s smaller, it’s not like that rat tail, tangs the same thickness, the 9 and 3/4. The way back to handle, generally speaking, a rat tail tang knife is exactly that. It shrinks down to a rat tail and then goes back into the knife, so that is a weak point in the overall structure of that knife. That could compromise you in a real emergency situation.

So I choose again: I choose to always carry a full tang knife on my hip and that’s my personal opinion. So all of these knives are full tang. Now, backup knife could definitely be a non full tang knife, and most of my backup knives generally are non full tang. We’ll talk about that in a few minutes. The next thing that I want to know on this knife is – and here again this is the these. Some of these things are kind of go no-go for me.

I can live with eight-inch if I have to I’d rather have 3/16, but there’s certain aspects of that night that I can’t live without or I’m not willing to do without. One of them is that that knife has a very sharp a 90-degree spine on it, so that it will effectively remove material from a ferrocerium rod, and there is a big misconception out there about ferrocerium rods and knives. Most of the time, if you’re having problems striking your Ferro rod, it’s not the rod, it’s the knife.

So what I’m going to do is I’m going to take a couple random knives here for you, I’ve got several different feral rods from cheap $ 5 Ferro rods. All the way up to $ 50 Ferro rods and we’re going to strike them with a knife and you’re going to see that, for the most part, they’re the same. Ok, so what we got here is we have a variety of ferrocerium rods. This rod is just a cheap rod, probably off of our website and the handle of been yanked off of it.

It’s been wrapped in duct tape. To give me a good heavy-duty handle most of the feral rods that you’re going to buy – and I say most not all most of the feral rods are going to buy. The handles are going to come off of them eventually sooner or later anyway. So I just take mine off on these cheaper ones and I wrap them in duct tape, so I’ve got an element of fire wrapped around it. An emergency plus I have this.

This duct tape is for no other use except a handle or fire. I carry duct tape, my kit for other things. On this side, I have arrived from Canton shop, comm, Rob Simpson spare rod, I’m very fond of these they’re good feral rods, they’re a little bit more expensive than wrapped in the leather. I think they come from deeply handcraft, I’m not sure that and they’re very good, fair rod to stick inside your knife sheet.

That’s what you like to do. This is a cheapie like a Coghlan model, ferrocerium rod. This is the Bob spark from fire. Steels calm. This rod is just a long blank fire rod that was made by one of my instructors, that has a copper, butt, end glued or epoxy Don and pinned in that’s filled with lead on the backside. So they can be used for a Bopper for napping, whether it’s for your flintlock or whether it’s for making arrowheads out of glass or flint, whatever the case may be.

It also gives you a good handle to hold on to and a large striking surface to remove material into your tinder bundle again. Cost difference is a lot here. You’re talking this one in this one are probably five bucks or less this one’s around 2025. This one’s around 2025 – I believe these things are around 40 50 bucks, so you’ve got a big difference there, but the bigger the rod is the longer it’s going to last.

A lot of guys ask me about this blocks of magnesium, with a little bitty rod going across the top of them. Those things are useless, in my opinion, you’re going to wear that rod out long before you ever get rid of that magnesium, and most all of your ferrocerium rods have a heavy content of magnesium in them. Already that’s going to burn if you can’t remove the material with your blade, that’s the important thing: it’s generally, not the Ferro rod that causes you the problems, it’s the blade.

Okay, I’m going to use a couple of different knives to do this stuff with first one. I’m going to use is the Pathfinder knife. This is made by blind or snobs. It’s called the PLS k1. The Scandinavian grind 3/16 own inch a little over a five-inch blade. This one happens to have curly maple handles on it. It has a good, sharp, 90 degree spine. So let’s try this one. First on just a cheapy rod. Now, that’s just as cheap II $ 5 rod.

Here’s the cheapy one off my website! You can see it’s removing enough materials! Hang it up on the back of the knife. Even here is the gob spark. Okay, canteen shop comm got to get the coating off of it. Okay. Now I’m going to show you what just happened here. The cap just came off of this. The leather coiled cap. Just came off of this. I’ve never seen that happen to one of these fair rods. Before that it goes right back to what I was telling you almost any fair rod you buy.

The cap is going to come off of it unless it’s pin through it’s going to come off, just wrap it with tape and go on and don’t worry about it. If you’re looking for something fancy, looking do yourself a favor make sure you got some duct tape with you when you get done here is the large barrel rod again, we’ve got to get the coating off of it once we get the coating off of it. It shouldn’t take a whole lot of effort when you do this.

If your knife is good 90-degree spine on it, it won’t take much effort, so you can see that all of those barrel rods will work just fine with that knife. Okay, this is the more of bushcraft black. We haven’t talked about this knife, yet it’s not a full tang knife. It is high carbon steel, which means it’s going to rust. If you don’t take care of it, but it’s going to be easier to sharpen in the field than stainless.

I prefer a high carbon we’ll talk about that a little bit in Y on our next exercise. But let’s look at what this will do and again it has that good 90-degree spine. So, let’s start with our cheap e Ferro rod here, pretty good the other cheap e Ferro rod, pretty good gob sport real good, the long heavy-duty one real good, the canteen shop. Pretty good! Ok, so you can see that as long as we have a good 90 degree, spine doesn’t really matter whether the knife cost 30 or 40.

Bucks like this one, we’re close to $ 300, like the Pathfinder knife, they’re going to do what you need them to do with the Ferro rod and that’s the important characteristic to understand. Will this knife be good for striking a ferrocerium rod every time I see someone take their knife and strike their ferrocerium rod with the blade of their knife? I know that person doesn’t know what they’re doing, because I’m never going to sacrifice my knife blade to strike a Ferro rod.

I can always use the back of this or I can find something else. If I can’t do that, but I’m never going to sacrifice my blade, this area of your blade from here to here from this curve back, is going to do. Two-Thirds of everything you do with this knife will take place right here. We’ll talk about that. A little bit too ok, so that gives us a pretty good look at one of the things that we want, our not to be capable of which is striking our ferrocerium rod.

A ferrocerium rod, in my opinion, is the most reliable fire-starting device you can possibly have in an emergency scenario. Matches are a one-shot deal, lighters run out of fluid and get wet all of those types of things. You need to concentrate your efforts on understanding how to use a Ferro rod with lots of different tenders, because a Ferro rod there is a very, very hot spark that will light up a lot of tender and it works even when it’s wet get yourself as big.

A Ferro rod as you can find that you can afford in the long run and carry that with you as your main ferrocerium rod. Alright. Moving on the next thing that we want to look at is the steel that this knife is made out of everything that I do with this knife has to be a multifunctional deal. Obviously, I can do a lot of things at this knife as far as making other things, and that makes it multifunctional, but it also needs to be part of my kit as far as being useful for at least three, I need to be able to start fire With this thing, as one of those chores or duties of my knife, and by scraping that ferrocerium rod that takes care of that element, but I would also like for my knife to be able to throw sparks from a hard rock in case.

I would lose my ferrocerium rod for some reason and all I’m left with is this knife if I can get a fire built somehow, because I made a bow drill set with my knife, I don’t want to have to go through that hassle, the second time. So if I can make char cloth in that first fire thinking ahead to my next fire and I can find a nice hard rock, I can use that to create an ember, then put in a bird nest and forego the whole bow drill.

Action on the next fire, so I want this knife to be made out of high carbon steel so that it will throw sparks off of the spine with a hardrock high carbon Steel’s. Oh one tool: steel 1095, while the Condor knives are made out of a 10 65 1070, not really enough carbon in them to throw a good spark. You see, there’s no Condor knives on this table, not because I’ve never used one, but because it’s not a knife that I would carry all of the time.

So if you’re going to ask me about other knives – and you don’t see it on this table – it’s because I either haven’t carried it, don’t carry it or I have carried it and don’t like it and don’t carry it anymore. These are the knives that I trust. Okay, so let’s talk about striking sparks with the back of our knife. So again, what we’re trying to accomplish here is turning our knife into an ignition source and we can do that as long as we have that high carbon steel blade.

So, let’s pick up, first of all, we’ll just pick up this butcher knife, what I’m going to do with my knives when I’ve decided I’m going to buy one. Is I’m going to do this first that thing’s throwing sparks I’m a happy camper? Now I know I got a good high carbon steel blade for sure. Even if I have no idea what this thing’s made out of yardsale three dollar butcher knife looks like carbon steel, it’s rusting up.

It’s got some patina to it. Let me take a rock to it: okay, now, I’m in business, does it have a good 90-degree spine on it yep now in double business. This is the right thickness. It’s pretty close as I got a good nice five to six inch blade on it yep. Okay now want that knife. That’s my factors now any knife that you have that’s high carbon steel and will, in fact, what we’ll do is we’ll get another cheaper type knife out here.

We’ll look at this more on bushcraft black again: does it throw sparks? Yes, it does okay. Is it throwing them as good as the butcher knife, not quite, but that could just be because the blade is like blue and not all this wore off yet, but I know this will start. It will create ignition with char cloth because I’ve done it. So if I have a high carbon steel blade, I’m going to be able to affect cognition that way and I’ll show you how to do that right now, up close, hang tight guys! Okay, so I have a charring 10 here.

It’s got some char cloth in it right here, so we’ll pull that piece of char cloth out and that’s what we’re going to use for this demonstration now, if I’m trying to strike sparks up my knife, there’s a couple ways you can do this, you can hold The knife blade like this and strike it against the rock. Exactly like you would do a striker, but I don’t like that method very well, because I’ve got my knife blade toward my hand.

If something were to slip, I could cut myself if I have to wrap something around the blade. I may not get a good grip on it, so I would rather strike down on the blade to the charred material. So we’ll pull a piece of this charred material off of here and lay it to the side. Real quick just like this, and what I like to do is lay that thing out and get as much surface area exposed as I can to catch my sparks and then kind of tack it down with my knife.

Just like this now I’ll lean my knife backwards. Just a little bit and I’ll strike sparks on to the char cloth, just like that. Okay, that out now, let’s look at the three hollered butcher knife. We’ll do the same thing. Get it out here, pin it down with the blade hold on the handle, push them down; okay, we’re on a fire all right. Now, let’s look at the pathfinder Scout bigger than the Pathfinder pls k, one larger in blade, size and blade length.

This is a six inch blade, it’s a little bit wider and so now the full flat grind, but it does have that 90-degree spine. It is three sixteenths, it’s just a little bigger more of a French trade or butcher knife style design. Alright sparks is going right by here. Here we go. Okay, we got a char cloth on fire, so you can see that a $ 40 knife will do it. A three dollar knife will do it. A $ 200 knife will do it.

It doesn’t matter how much the knife costs it matters, what the physical characteristics and capabilities are of that knife. Okay, so what I want to do now, real quick is: I want to kind to kind of go through some knives with you guys. One at a time show you knives that I trust doesn’t mean that there’s other knives on the market that aren’t good. But again, if you’re going to ask me what I think of this of that.

If you didn’t see in this article, that should give you an indication of what I think about it means I don’t carry it. Alright. Anything by blind horse knives is going to be bone. Anything by hapless bush tools is going to be a good knife. Anything by Moore is going to be a good knife, but it’s not going to meet all of the criteria that we talked about. Some of them are not high carbon they’re stainless, and none of them are full tang.

Alright. So, let’s start off with the Morris. The Mora bushcraft block is by far my favorite. It’s got a nice blue blade. It’s got a three quarter: tang nice comfortable, rubber over plastic handle here high carbon steel, blade, good 90-degree spine the blade on it’s almost a little over four inches long, and for me you know the minimum is about five. But again this is not going to be. My main knife, so it doesn’t have to be five inches.

This is another more. This is the Mora companion, another good knife about half a little over tang, maybe 3/4 rubber over plastic handle. You can see the blades a little bit less robust than the bushcraft block. It’s a little bit shorter, it’s not not as wide and it’s about the same, not quite the same thickness. So this is a heavier knife than this one, but does not cost more than this one. Both of them will do the job.

A knife. I’ve been carrying a lot lately as a backup or carving type knife or bushcrafting is this martini, and this was given to me by one of my instructors: solid rubber handle three quarter inch tang molded over. It’s got a really nice 90-degree spine on it. It’s good and thick it’s over 8 of an inch. It might be close to 3/16 Scandinavian grande. It’s a very short blade. It’s only a little, it’s a little less than 4 inches.

I think so. It’s not going to be a main night for me, but it is a great backup, skinning carving and crafting knife for my pack. This is the habilis butcher knife and this knife was designed directly after this knife. This is a three dollar butcher knife from a yard sale. This is the habilis butcher knife. It was designed and made directly to mimic this knife because we knew there’d never be another one of these come along, so we wanted something that was very close to an 18th century design with 18th century type, handle materials and scales.

This one has one two, three four five six pins on it, so that it’s more period-correct for something along the 18th century lines, solid, hardwood handles. They are flat, as many of them were back, then it does have the Pathfinder logo and the habilis Bush tool logo. On it as well, it’s a nice Scandi grind and scanned effects. It’s got a little bit of a convex grind compound grind at the bottom of the Scandinavian grind.

It’s got a good 90-degree spine on it and it’s made out of 1095 so it definitely meets all the criteria. Definitely a good, robust knife. Okay, now, let’s get 2 BHK blind horse knife a blind horse. Obviously, I’ve had a very, very long relationship with blind or knives they’re. Absolutely my favorite knife company Bar None in the world, their knives have never failed me and everybody. I’ve talked to says if they’ve ever had any issue with a knife that blind horse has replaced.

It without question so any guarantee like that is the guarantee I want they’re fit and finish is perfect. Their shops really nice I’ve been to their shop. So I know what it looks like. I know what the craftsmanship is: good, american-made quality, but again you’re going to pay for american-made knives. This is the Pathfinder Scout, the one that I carry probably 95 % of the time, not because I don’t like the PLS k1, but because this one has a little more versatility for what I do every day.

If I were going to have to choose one knife for an emergency, it would be the PLS k1. That’s what it was designed for. This knife is more of a hunting skinning butchering type knife. It’s got a big 6 H butchering style blade on it. European type. French trade knife style blade, 3/16 heavy heavy spine. Oh one tool, steel, curly maple handles it’s just a really really nice heavy duty knife – and I carried this one quite a bit.

The PLS k1 is the original Pathfinder knife that was made by blind horse knives. Scandinavian grind blades about five and a quarter inches long. It’s got some jimping on the top of the blade here, curly maple handles on this one, like I said, oh one tool, steel, heavy duty, 90 degree spine. This knife will do anything in the world that you want it to do and if you have it in, if it’s in the right hands of the person with the right skill, it can do anything you want to do from fine carving to processing firewood.

This is the muck, the Nemec with the Pathfinder logo, on it that’s made by blind horse Scandinavian ground, Nemec style blade, it’s basically a short butcher knife and I think that’s pretty much what nest Mehcad in mind when you had this knife made. If you look at this knife compared to a larger butcher knife they’re pretty much the same, it’s just shorter and squatty ER than a butcher knife. It’s got that same hump at the top so that it rides high over bone when you’re cutting with it.

It’s good for batani! I like this dished area right here, because that forces a lot of forces a lot of pressure right here to the belly when you’re trying to split wood and things like that with it. So it’s a really really good knife, but remember with any knife you’re going to about this. Much of your blade is where you’re going to do 90 % of your work. You know the before you get to the upsweep on the belly is where you’re going to 90 % of your work.

When I see guys carving, sticks and they’re making points on sticks out here on the blade. I know those guys don’t know what they’re doing, because that area of your knife should be the most pristine area, because that’s what we can use to process game. That’s what you’re going to use from very fine under cuts and notches and find carving tasks. You don’t want to use that for hogging material off to make points on sticks.

That’s what this area of the knife is for. Okay, just a little tidbit there, the nest McKnight’s are really really good. All-Around hunting type knife: this is the blind horse. Bushcrafter great cat part style, design, blade cat part style really designed knife for the most part. It’s got this Inlet in the handle, which makes it really comfortable for your finger. It’s got a nice round grip. As my instructor chair, jamie burly, always says, it’s like a broom handle doesn’t matter how you hold it.

It’s always going to be comfortable in your hand and that’s kind of one of the pluses to this knife for bushcrafting and things like that. It’s got a four inch blade on it. Like I said it’s got a cup art design spear point blade on it. This one happens to have a full flat grind. I think the ones they sell have a hollow grind. I’m not positive of that. Don’t quote me on that, and this one happens to have curly maple handles.

This is a really nice little knife that blind horse makes is the woodsman pro now I’ve carried this knife, not as extensive as I carried the others, but it is a really nice woodsy style design, knife for hunting and trapping, and things like that. It’s just not quite big enough for something to me to be beyond a carving knife or a skinning knife for a one tool, type knife. But it is a very good back up knife for the trapline for hunting for skinning and things like that, and this is called the trapline companion now.

This knife has got about a four inch blade on. This was an accidental knife. This is a knife that was made, another knife was messed up and this knife was ground out of it by Dan at blind horse knives and when he showed it to me, I fell in love with him. The reason I fell in love with it and decided to adopt it as the TLC is because it has a nice hollow grind, which means it’s going to stay razor sharp.

It’s got a nice little drop point right here for skinning and making money cuts on furs and hides, and things like that, and it has that small kitchen knife like feel to it. That makes it great for fine carving tasks and things like that. So for making feather sticks for doing fine under cuts and notches and all those types of things. This thing is like the Morra of the blind horse world, except this full tang and it’s high carbon steel with a 90 degree spine.

So it does everything for me. If it needs to okay, one thing: I want to talk about real quick in this article. As I see a lot of people talking about making feather sticks. How, well is the knife make feather sticks well depends again on how well you can handle the knife, and what your skill level is. A good sharp knife will make feather sticks. Obviously a thinner blade is going to make better feather sticks than a thicker blade.

So you have to understand the limitations of what you have, but even a blade that is 3/16 or thick like the Pathfinder knife. But it’s got a big heavy Scandinavian grind on which makes it really good for processing wood and things like that, and a good heavy-duty tool is not going to be as good for fine carving tasks as say this TLC, or even this martini or Mora, because the Blades are thinner, they have a sharper Scandinavian bevel to them and they’re going to make those fine cuts.

This one is hollow ground, so it’s definitely going to make fine cuts all right, but let’s look at these knives and when you’re making feather sticks, you’re not trying to you, don’t want this thing hanging out on a stump between your legs and you’re, trying to push The knife with both hands – that’s not the way to make feather sticks feather sticks, are a fine finesse, carving task I’ll tell you.

Nobody would complain about that butter. Stick! Okay! Out of a 3/16 inch blade with a heavy scanning grind on it. That is a nice feather. Stick that will take flame very very quickly and that’s the advantage of a feather stick. Is you have increased the surface area and made the material very thin so that it heats up quickly and combust faster, okay, guys? Well, I appreciate joining for this article I turn today.

I wanted to go over my mentality with you or my line of thinking when it comes to noise. I also wanted to talk you a little bit about understanding what you’re looking at when you read other people handling knives using knives, reviewing knives and things like that again. This is not a Bosch on any knife company. It’s not a Bosch on a You Tube reviewer. I just want to educate the people who are reading my articles as to what you should be looking for and be sure that when you read a review on any product, whether it’s a knife or a steel pot that that person has used that item.

And you can’t say that you’ve used an item by taking it to the woods one time or for five minutes or five hours or likely even five days. You need to use and abuse that item before you can really say what is worthiness is to have in someone’s kit, I’m Dave camera at five fire school. I appreciate your views, your support, everything you do for me for my school, for my family I’ll be back. Another article soon as I can thanks guys, you

Income Tracker Setup | 2019 Business Planner | #ECDeluxeMonthlyPlanner

I wanted to share how I am setting up my financial stuff in my business planner. This is for 2019, so I won’t be using this anytime soon, but I wanted to show you just how I’m setting it up. So, let’s talk about the things that I may or may not use. I just kind of pulled some things out and I will leave links down below to all of the shops that I’m mentioning.

I just have this movie strip like film strip, washing that I got a long time ago, like Michaels or something I have these little calculators from coffee break planner. I also have some event stickers from coffee break. Planner I’ve got these are really cute little computer desks from Bob Bob. I can’t talk today, Peiper paper company. Sorry, I’ve done like three articles already. So that’s like I’m going a little batty at the moment and then I also have these two different size youtube buttons from Harriet Wright designs.

I am going to be using my Erin Condren planner. This is my one for 2019, like I said, and this is the deluxe monthly planner. If you guys want to see a article on how I originally set this up, I will leave it in a card up above, for you guys. It just has basically like a monthly view, and then it has some pages in between and then I elected to get a ton of notes pages. As you can see, the notes pages are about as thick as the guts of the regular planner.

So I wanted to track a bunch of things, so that was kind of the catalyst of this. So what I want to do in this article is, I want to show you how I’m setting up my like first page but here’s the issue we’re going to talk about revenue streams, really quick. So this little page marker is also from Erin Condren, I’m just going to put that off camera. At the moment my work income is very different, so I get Google Adsense, which is basically like the money you make off of views on YouTube.

That’s going to be this first page, the next page is going to be Amazon. I do have affiliate links from Amazon, there’s always links below and I always denote affiliate link. So I do get paid from Amazon. Usually, every month like you have to hit a certain threshold or whatever and now the really cool thing is. I just set up an Amazon door or like an Amazon shop. So basically you can shop all my favourite things and I have them listed like in categories.

So I put like kitchen and then like a bunch of stuff that I’ve either talked about in my kitchen, or maybe I’ve never talked about it, but I use it and I put it in there. I put like all my cleaning products I have like done just skincare makeup. Planner supplies that I absolutely love from Amazon and all that good stuff. The cool thing is, is, if you check out with the link, that’s given, so you know you just stay on the browser for that long and then you know you check out no matter what it is regardless.

If I suggested something to you or not – or maybe you just check out with the items in your cart, I actually get a small percentage of your transaction, which is awesome. Your cost doesn’t go up or anything like that. It just lets Amazon know that I sent you there. So that’s a really cool thing, so I do get an income stream from Amazon and then also share a sale. The only thing I do for share a sale right now is Erin Condren.

So there is an again a link down below, for you guys says you can buy something from Erin, Condren again same thing as Amazon, your price doesn’t go up. If you use the clickable link, it’s like a unique link that sends you there and you check out. Then again I get a small percentage of the sale and the cost of goods does not go up. Shareasale is like for bloggers and instagramers and youtubers influencers, and things like that.

So you have to meet certain requirements to do that, but I’ve been doing it for the Erin Condren for a while, and I really like it but yeah. It’s just kind of one of those fun things, but I can sign up for like other companies on ShareASale, but I just haven’t yet because I don’t know none of them have like turned my crank Etsy. I clearly own an Etsy shop. The link is below, I feel like this whole, like intros, like link, is below go check it out so yeah I have Etsy and then also I have contracts that I will sometimes do so.

I left that in there and then I have a bunch of blank pages as well so in case there’s other like streams or something like that that I need to deal with. So anyway, let’s set the first page together and then I will show you guys in the end, because it’s going to be way too much. Article footage, if I do all of them but I’ll, stop the camera and then show you what I did once it’s all over with. So let’s do the YouTube stuff.

First, I just need like what I’m here. Let’s talk a little bit more um. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to put the months here so like January through December, and then what you know, what my income was for that month and then what the running balance is as well so like how much basically I’ve made throughout the Year so it’s like you know the actual and then the total so yeah that’s kind of what the plan is.

So I really only need 12 spaces, but I think I’m going to do like every other space. Maybe I don’t often thinking thinking that might look kind of more aesthetically pleasing to my eyeballs, I’m kind of just using the line as a guide to not totally make this look crooked. You know just a little crooked, not all the way crooked, and then these are the snap-in bookmarks from Erin Condren and I love them for cutting washi because they seem to work really well for me and then on my sticker here I am going to be using A pilot ultrafine point permanent again.

This link will be a below as well, and I get these on Amazon. They come in a bunch of different colors, there’s black blue red and green. I believe so love these alright. I guess I could probably take this off of here. There we go. That’s a little bit better, all right we’re going to put the total at the end here: income Khanna right over there! Well, that’s really crooked, Emily good job! Don’t worry guys, I’m a professional! Oh! My goodness, you would think by, like you know, I’ve done this for years.

I could lay washi straight and I could do all those things not so much. Not so much. Oh well, all right just put a little calculator on the side there and then I think I think one of these big boys will fit in here. I think yeah cool, all right and I don’t know – maybe one of these will fit up here too. I just love these. I think these are so cool. I just haven’t had a real opportunity to use them yet actually hold on here’s.

What I’m going to do? I’m going to move this just a little bit over and the nice thing about coffee break planner stickers is, is their mat removable, so you can move them around and actually, like several months later, you can still do that at least on the Erin Condren paper. I’ve noticed so that’s kind of exciting, so I’m going to put this guy like right up here. I think that looks really cute, because basically, I’m like on the computer all day, which is what youtubing really is, you would think a lot of it’s.

You know the articles, the articles are the articles, but a lot of it is on the interwebs so staying connected and all of that good stuff. So my mindset for this whole thing is that I want to kind of keep this other side blank. I would use this marker, but this does bleed through a little bit, which is why I just use them on these stickers. So I am going to go in with my paper. Mate ink, joy, gel pen and again link will be below for this guy.

If you are interested, but I am going to list out all the months and make a line and another line and we’re going to just go with it all right, so I have all my months in and as I was you’re thinking about this, I was like. Oh, my gosh I really wanted to put in another category, has nothing to do with income, but I do want to put in like right here. I’m going to put it right underneath here, I’m going to put subscriber count, so I think it’s just really fun like I love reading, like my friends that are on YouTube, their subscriber counts.

You know how they change and fluctuate, and I really want to keep track of that. The reason that I like to keep track of it. Subscribers really doesn’t I mean if you want to like talk about YouTube like income, and things like that subscriber count has absolutely nothing to do with your income level on YouTube at all. So the nice thing about looking at the subscriber count is you can kind of look and see what months you’re gaining a lot or maybe losing a lot to be honest, this past, like 30 days, I think I’ve lost like over three or four hundred subscribers and I’m really not sure why I have been posting really regularly.

I’ve been doing a lot of vlogging, which everyone that comments on the vlog says that they really like the vlogs, but maybe they don’t like the vlogs. Maybe I need to do more planning articles which I’m trying to do, but it’s very weird, but sometimes YouTube will promote my blog and other times. They won’t – and I think that this summer, for whatever reason I just haven’t, been really in people’s like suggested bars, you know like when you read on YouTube.

You have like your screen and then you have like that’s suggested a lot of times. I get new subscribers because of the suggested bar like the suggestion like that long bar there. I don’t know why but whatever, but it’s just nice to see like, oh in you know, January switch something up, and I did something different. So, when February hit, I had like how many more subscribers – or maybe I didn’t, do a lot in January and my subscriber went like lower or whatever I don’t know.

It’s just very strange. Actually, what’s really funny is, like my blog grew a ton when I wasn’t doing any articles at all like last January into February. I don’t, I think I uploaded like one or two articles like it was hardly anything, and I think I like gained, I don’t know like a thousand followers, or so it was just really weird, I’m like why is it growing? I’m not doing anything. So I don’t know it was very weird, but I’m going to keep creating content for you guys, I’m not so hung up on the subscriber count, but it’s just a fun thing to track.

So anyway, I’m going to be using this Chris, a sticker sheet. I’m just going to like use this little sticker right here and just kind of put it right there and then I’m just going to put subscriber on it and if you guys are interested on the number on. This is ka D, 0, 0, 2, 3, 2 and her sheets are like a matte vinyl like a semi-gloss kind of a thing, we’re not glossy but they’re like a semi-gloss and they smell like I don’t know they smell, like pool floaties like little arm floaties.

I don’t know why or like really love that smell, but I’m going to take this little red one cuz we’re going with like the red theme. Alright, so just wrote subscriber so yeah and then I can just track that right there and you always have to wait for a second for this to completely dry. So I think it’s dry now perfect looks super cute alright, so I have got my trusty Erin Condren snappin ruler right here, so I’m going to use that close up this binder here.

This is how I store all of my Christian designs, stuff cuz. It’s an obsession! You guys it’s an obsession all right, and that is it. That is what I’m going to be doing for the rest of these pages. So I’m going to stop the camera because, like I said it’s going to be way too much article file footage. I don’t even think my memory card is that big for as long as it’s going to take me to do this, so I will see you guys in just a second when I’m all done alright.

So I am back. I am all done with my financial pages and my business planner for 2019. So I wanted to show you what I did and where I got everything. So I did change this just a little bit since we last saw each other. I did include these um they’re. Just like little money stickers, I want to say that I got this from paper loving mommy, on Etsy. If, for some reason, you can’t find any of these things on these specific shops, you can also Google or search on Etsy like money, stickers or whatever kind of sticker you’re looking for, and there are so many other wonderful shops out there too.

I just happen to have these from other shops, so anyway, I put these on all of my pages, for you guys. So here is my youtube page and then moving right along. This is my Amazon page. So I’ve got my little scallop boxes, which these are all from coffee break. Planner I’ve got my little money guy. I’ve also got this. It’s so cute. It says my transformer name is Amazon, Prime, and that is from small-town grace and then I’ve got these little shopping bags, which are from Lily Henry several years ago, and then I also have this little Amazon sticker from KB sticker Co and then obviously I’ve got.

You know it’s the same template all the way through, and then this one here I have oh, and I should say most of the washi that you see is on my shop on favorite daughters, shop on Etsy. I will leave a link down below most of it’s on there. Some of it isn’t, but you know, there’s lots of different stuff on there at the moment. This is not because this is an Erin Condren product. This is an Erin Condren washi.

They do come as a set, and this is the new pattern for this year – the woven wonder which I’m like kind of obsessed with so again. The scallop boxes are from coffee-break planner, we’ve got the money and then the little eyeglasses. Those are from a sticker sheet. From Erin Condren comm and then the little EC, I just put that on there too, and that’s a sticker from Erin Condren as well, and the little shopping bag is also from Lily Henry.

This is going to be from my Etsy page, so the washi is from my shop and then I also have the scalloped boxes, which are coffee, break planner. Sorry, this is kind of redundant, but I know a lot of people ask and then I’ve got the money. The boss sticker, those are also from small town grace and then the little bag again is from Lily Henry and then the Etsy sticker is from planner topia. And then this is the last sheet that I have and then all of the scale up boxes, as well as a little calculator, are from a coffee break.

Planner the washi is from my shop. We’ve got the money sticker again with another one of those Rea done. Mugs and that is from small town grace and then these awesome computers are from a piper a paper company, and then I do have a couple of extra sheets in the back in case, there’s other revenue streams or I decide to do something different with the business. This year, but yeah so we’ve got my contracts, Etsy ShareASale, Amazon and YouTube, so that is going to be it for me today.

Thank you guys so much for hanging out with me. If you’ve got any other questions for me feel free to post them down below and if you guys run a business or own a business. How do you guys keep track of your expenses? Clearly, I’m a paper planner person, but I know a lot of people. Do it online as well, but let me know how you do yours. I’d used to be really curious. So thanks for hanging out with me today and I’ll see you all in the next one bye guys well folks, it’s time to kick it old school

Longtail Keyword Planner for Website, Youtube, , Facebook for SEO

This article is going to show you how to use the Google Google Keyword planner to search for keyword, search volume in a specific geographic area. You can use this to see how and if people are searching for a product, service or company in your area. The first thing you want to do is go to google and type in the keyword planner and the first link that you’re going to want to click on is probably this one up top.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GN5FdUp9Brs

It’s the one that says Adwords at Google, comm and click on that it’ll. Ask you to login, I’m already logged in so let’s go load and click on this top option, search for new keyword and AD group idea and type in whatever the product or service or company is that you’re interested in in this case. I’m making this article for a friend and she’s interested in resume, writing and resume editing, so we type those in to also do resume.

Writing services resume editors that kind of populate it with some keyword ideas. You don’t need a whole lot, just put in a decent little sample size. Next, you want to go to targeting, which is down here on the top left after those fields, click on it and set yours. I have mine set to Rochester New York and it’s important to note that I’m using the Nielsen, DMA region and what that does is refers to the Greater Rochester area.

So it includes the actual city of Rochester, plus all the different suburbs and cities that are nearby surrounding that. That gives you a better idea of your market. So let’s do good ideas now it will pull up the screen. You have ad group ideas and you can look at keywords and these, if you see a specific attitude that really stands out to what you’re looking for. Otherwise, what I like to do is go to the keyword, ideas and see that for what I specifically typed in you can see your average monthly searches here.

What your relative competition is adjusted bids are, if you’re, using Adwords and if you click on it, you can organize it. So here I have it sorted by average monthly searches and it’s a great way to get an idea of what people are searching for in your area. If you’re a local business, you can find out, if you or searching for your progress service or what type of language they’re using to search for, so that you can maybe doing some SEO or some pay-per-click advertising to get to those people thanks for reading.

If this article is helpful, please like it and share it. You can also find more of my work at Paul Carl calm and thanks for reading everybody, I

Marketing Your Music On TikTok The Smart Way

So I’m like okay, we’ll go ahead and create one he was like. Well, how do I get people over there? Something like you know, you can get on your facebook or get on your Instagram or get on these other platforms to try to drive those followers or those fans like back to tick tock like.

Should they go that route, or is it like building your fan base on tick tock, as you start you starting to create that content communicate with other tick, tock URLs, I don’t know like how do you go about like really getting people over to that platform, so That you can kind of build up all right, so tick tock. Is it heavily built around what your friend group is immediately around you in creating a world around that respective around that that’s how most social media is tick.

Tock is based off the algorithm. Your interaction with that – and we show you more of that world right. So if you don’t like what you take that look like you’re looking in the mirror Thunder so really, I remember it was a church group. They had to advise all their other people because they wanted to be on there to spread church war, but then also read the keys and all that stuff make sure they’re not in the and they had to tell people are trains like no.

I know you don’t like what you’re seeing here so some of these kids with just if you don’t like it, you know I start to like the things that you do like what you see right in and start to swipe past those and the algorithm is super Sensitive algorithm is more sensitive than most of these other ones when it comes to what it’s showing you are reacting to it. That’s what your world look like, but when it comes to translating an audience over, I would focus heavily on going facebook to instagram and pushing those over to tick-tock.

I would do tick-tock and pushing it to the other ones all right, because what you’ll find is for one people translate over to those other from tick-tock a lot easier other way around. But yes, maybe to get a little bit of like attention on nothing. Boy might be nice to do it, especially if you are somebody who already has a fan base. But if you don’t it’s, that’s not. You know. Okay, maybe post here’s.

My tech-talk here put any og, be a bio, but I wouldn’t even waste any energy on it. I would try to become good at talk to tick tock and get those people to the other platforms. Okay. So I also have someone – and I think you i’m sure – that you have this in your training because we know y’all, don’t know burma. Sean has the tick, tock, training, tick, tock, music secrets, training right, so it also i’m guessing – will cover how to even get your music on there.

That’s free by the way. Yes right, you know, because I did have an artist is like do because I know they have different type of ways, so our artist was asking me like. Do I just get on tick, tock and basically record myself with my music playing on the background, so I was telling him like. No, you can actually get your music on the platform. You know, and a lot of people are still trying to figure out like how do you do that you know and I’m like the same way.

You would get your music like on Instagram stories. Pretty much. Isn’t it like um kinda, sorted so from your district. It definitely allows you to do that right and there I think, there’s another one that got had it on recently. I can’t remember, but other than that you can old-school it, and all you need is the sound. You don’t need the full song, because no one’s going to be using a full. Alright, you there’s a article that Cody and our tick-tock series is like back in August 2000, 18 type, brand man, tick, tock series, or something like that.

It’s just starting to pop up got ta, get your music on tick, tock and also. I think we have a tick tock playlist at this point, but there’s two different ways: you do it officially do there or you can just upload the sound cuz any article. You record technically becomes sound and we’re doing this and we post this on tick tock. Now somebody could take that sound right, so you can put your music on in that same way a lot of times.

I advise to do it that way, not go into those reasons, because they said if we talked a lot about tick tock, but it’s really ain’t necessarily a tick tock episode, I know, turned out to be their number one it just it just is what it is At this point, I always tell people I’m not going to create some new secretive, like this is how you do it stuff when it doesn’t exist. I’m going to just tell you look.

This is what it is right, and this isn’t what it is, because I’m predicting the future. This is what it is, because this is what’s happening. I’m seeing results and behaviorally paying attention to fans and people, not opinions of people will actually get you to the the right place faster than everybody else right. It’s important to be able to adapt right and state of what’s going on because, like every platform might not be here forever, you know I’m saying soda.

It’s like somebody is always coming out with something new that can be beneficial to you for multiple reasons, whether it’s the you know, find you a date or you know, grow your fan base either way. So it’s like, we literally got to stay up to date and ride the wave like ghosts, ride away. Gary Vee says something that I actually live. Super agreed with. I was already kind of digging that way, so tick-tock snapchat all these things right all these platforms, all some of them they might come and go for one if tick-tock pops, just like let’s say I like bye and then it dissolves that attention doesn’t mean that it Wasn’t worth it right, especially if you flip it, King batch and some of these other people who were vying stars have full careers and millions of Instagram followers were able to translate over there they’re popping and they built off and they’re doing everything they want to do Because they got a huge audience while it was free and easy on vine and translated some to somewhere else.

So you can’t say it’s not worth it. If you just don’t win, you don’t win okay, cool, that’s just good who didn’t do good on the platform or he didn’t take advantage of it while he existed. But the bigger thing is understanding when it comes to marketing you have here. We always think about the end customer the end consumer, because at the end of the day remember before Facebook, you people were communicating the radio TV and all those things right before Instagram people were communicating through Facebook and what people don’t understand about the vehicles of communication Is they don’t only offer an opportunity to reach people and communicate with people? They also create a format in which the users like to be communicated with right.

So now somebody our age, they can be communicated with a short snippet, a tweet. You know what I mean and that’s cool with us, where somebody else of a certain error might be like bro. I need some more information right. It’s like you didn’t really say anything right or you know the certain banners were used to the quotes on IGN and the way that aesthetic, so we can be marketed to in that way. There’s a generation who’s coming up, tik-tok first right and if you want to be prepared and over and over sometime, these people will want to be communicated with in that way.

That would be their first form of communication. A bigger, clearer explanation is text messaging yeah. It’s like some people. You got a certain class like Brett. Don’t text me call right right. I am that’s how they like to be talked to call me. That’s how you market have a conversation with me. You know give me a chance to try. Love me. I mean yeah and then some people are like not just text me and you can market to them based on those behaviors and understanding.

So if you don’t take time to at least understand how these platforms work, you’re not going to be able to understand how to reach this customer effectively, that’s why it’s important to not take your own opinions and and stubbornness or whatever you got going on. You know whatever affliction is going on pain, suffering. Whatever spirit you have to realize. It’s irrelevant right. The market is really built on principles and the principles don’t give a damn about how you feel the principles exist, regardless of who’s using them right, we’ll see somebody become a dictator off some principals will see somebody become a president off of some principals will see.

Somebody become Mother Teresa or some martyr off of the same principals. The exact same way of building a fan base back same way.

My favorite musician as of right now.

Responsive Vertical Rhythm with CSS Custom Properties and CSS Calc – Talk.CSS #30

So the the title for this talk is how to make rest response it, let it go redone with CSS variables in CSS cow. So there are three big words over there. The first big one is vertical rhythm. So what is for to go rhythm? In the first place right, can you see the picture properly because it might be a little bit too small in MI? This should make it big enough.

Yes, big enough: okay, basically, when we starting about typography, there’s this one thing that that we are quite particular with and we call it about the corrida. What it basically means is the vertical white space needs to go at a consistent rhythm, so we read what’s easily so in this case, for example, the words the underline is what we call the baseline of text and usually in print typography or free magazines.

However, you put it, we put the baseline at the base of the text like in this case, and then we just make sure everything lies on the baseline, so mix the reading part easier, but on the web-based line, calculation is kind of a bit of a challenge. I won’t go into details here, but we have it this way. What this means is we have a text and then we have a line height and the baseline is just like well top and bottom of the thing, but similarly the the idea of a Breeden exists.

So each line has a specific rhythm in itself and if you put a space kind of like with the rhythm and base, it makes it easier to read as you go along alright. So the idea of what can be done is using this line. Tight-Ass, the common spacing variable for your entire design. So in this case will be 24 pixels. I can use it everywhere else, make it like 0.75 1/2, a multiple 2 times the multiple and use that value as the space.

So, in that case we are not calculating by can you ship it by 2 pixels that kind that kind of calculations? We don’t really care anymore, because everything is relative, then all right, so that’s what vertical rhythm is all about. Now, like I was saying earlier, if you need more space, as you can see, I did a 3 x over there so 24 times 3 72 and then you can use that as a space variable. So we don’t have to worry about my new pixel changes in the old way of doing it.

It’s kind of like that, if we were 10 pixels see one sizes, 20, 20 pixels and like highest 1.4, the end of optical rhythm is 20 times 1.4 or 28 pixels, and we just use that value 28 route with some multiples to the 28. Depending on how you want it to likewise continuing on the code side of things, if you know this value called Ren, Ren is a CSS unit that says the equals to the base one size the base one size is the font size mentioned in the HTML.

So whatever the font size in the HTML, that is one read if the line height of the body text is 1.4, then we use 1 gram times 1.4. So the calculation goes. If you want one VR or one vertical one or one rhythm unit, that is 1.4 in so that’s how the the thing goes, then we come in then then there’s this thing about about typography, where you know like when it comes to responsive design. You want to increase font size as the screen gets bigger because we are usually further away from the screen and in typography.

That’s this thing called the typography triangle, where there’s a delicate balance between three things, so the length of texts – if it’s too long, it’s hard to read, because 2-shot is also hard to read and the font size itself and also the line height of the text. So, generally speaking, if the Texas, at a readable size, you kind of want to increase the font size as you increase the text size because the same amount of multiple at the at a larger size, you you need more space to have more breathing room for the Text so Tim Brown, which is one of the typography experts, came out of this thing, known as molten lighting, and this is how he kind of coined it.

Basically, what this means is using CSS calc, which does calculations, and he does it with one y en +. 1, VW, VW s, the viewport width, so it changes the font size by the same time. You also change the line height with, like say, 1.2 m, +, 1, VW and kind of that’s the thing right in practice. It looks like this. I have two infinite. Okay, so if we reduce the font size, you can see that I have reducing, but at a slightly faster rate than the font size itself.

So that’s how when you well, I don’t really like molten lighting, because you know you calmly, control it properly see where it gets to a point where the the lighting is a little bit too big, oh reading, meaning the line height. So if you want to control that right and still if you’re, not control that you have these media queries for your line height right, then we come back to the problem of vertical rhythm, because if you change the line height of the vertical rhythm on the HTML, You have to change the line, the rhythm unit everywhere else based on our calculation.

So what that means? Okay is kind of something like this. You change that to small. Where is my mouse? Okay, so you changed the line height and then at a different southern pixels. You change like you, change the line height and then you have to do all the calculations for all the margin and all the other stuff that you are you had done before and so far before CSS variables and before we didn’t have a way to do.

Responsive algorithms, because this is freaking painful right next, what am I so with CSS variables, there’s an easier way of doing this whole, but to cover them thing, but, first of all what is CSS variables? Css variables is it’s kinda like normal variables, but written the CS in a custom property way, so they are also called custom property. What you do is to define the CSS bill go first, with this double dash.

Syntax that says, ok, color is something I want to. I want to define – and this time is I say it’s free and the good thing must CSS variable is that you can calculate at runtime, meaning a Tem. I can change this to blue and then I can write color vah vah color, which is my CSS property and at 30 EMS it will automatically change to blue. So that’s what CSS variable does all right. Then, if we think about this in the same way, we can use CSS variables to create online height right.

So let’s say a line is 1.4. We can use this value from 1.4 and just to make it drastic just to make it visible. We can change it to 3, it’s like 2 times that, like I, was like huge change, but in the CSS way of. But when we calculate the whole thing, we just need to say margin top. We have to use calc because we want to multiply with a multiple. So if it’s one gram, you can see the baseline times one rib right.

So this is two rhythm units cost two ribs 0.75 would be 0.75, wait a minute and so on, and what we have as a demo, then, is this so okay yeah. So at a certain point I changed only the line height variable. I didn’t change the font size in this example, but I changed the line height variable and just changing that line. Height variable changes, the margins and the line height of the body element as well.

So that is how you can do CSS a responsive, vertical rhythm in CSS yeah. This is the line height. Oh yeah. I didn’t do the calculation here, no damn it! This is how you prepare an okay, so calc and then for, for example, so in our pixels I changed right now, that’s a very big margin. So it’s so it’s quite obvious. 800 pixels! You see that change in margin, even though I didn’t change the margin value in a media query in this h1 declaration.

So that’s what I wan na share you can. You can use this in production if, if and only if, if you don’t have to support browsers that don’t use CSS rules, if you don’t have to support that sorry ie can, I think ie is possible as well. It’s just the older browsers, yeah Oprah meanie. That’s the only concern or premiering 11. I don’t supply 11. I don’t care yeah, but the thing about CSS variables is, you can’t have a CSS, we will fall back easily.

That’s done! That’s the unfortunate thing. If you use CSS, there goes a calculation. You kind of have to do that twice, so I have an article. I didn’t talk about the just. Let me bring up the article. I think I some code. Yes, I think there’s some code samples for the fallback, so I’m just going to refer to it rather yeah. So so, basically, oh yeah. I went into a little bit more in depth in in this article because I kind of meet assess function to do the count.

Baseline kind of thing, so you don’t have to do it yourself and you can use it like. I say much on top of your to or something like that where RvR means responsive or the career them. But if you talk about support, then you want to write the answer. Pop-Up variable the base support source, which is you have to do the calculations yourself and then you have to it’s like a double property kind of thing: it’s not very nice, but if you want to, you can write it and just because margins and padding’s and values Are you so much it just kind of becomes unwieldy if you want to support this, so from I mean, is my main concern about using this method in your production.

Oh, it really depends on the like. We won’t use or prominently, but of Rimini. It’s mostly used by people who don’t have like good equipment and good Wi-Fi like us. You know people in Africa and Asia are probably Australia, Australia, Australia, yes as well so areas of no with that network they usually have cheaper phones and Oprah mini, is a browser that caters to that. So there are a lot of people who use over our meaning.

So done the same feature yeah at support, still writing you’re using just thinking, but you still having to write everything yeah. Well, I mean again: if it’s only up for a mini, you can assume. Small screens is what up for mini. Does hey? Actually it happens. You know theories are usable, but it all from uni this. This is something new. I didn’t know what previously that works, that works well, but even so we can’t use this technique worth of Rimini, because it’s too unwieldy at this point.

It’s just because of how the syntax for CSS variable needs to be get holbox. Well, even if you use less or sense, you can’t really use it, but it might be possible if you do pull CSS. It might be possible if you do for CSS, but I ever had the time and chance to dig into full CSS and making all something that does that automatically. If I find some time I, this is probably the first thing I’m going to do, because I’m like a typography kind of thing guy, I think we’re awfully close to getting there.

It’s it’s just going to take one good example of what to do and we’ll be using CSS variables that were awfully close. I mean it’s that’s pretty near notice. I mean, unfortunately, it’s not as useful or something like grid where there were pull backs. We were certain. We also can’t use calc in or from me as well, so I was like two things to wait, for I have no idea went over Armenia or ketchup. My hope is, they will catch up before I make the the plugin or, if I ever make them that that for CSS thing I will hope that Oprah me never catches up, because it would be a waste of my assets.

So it’s a it’s a it’s a battle between those two thoughts, yeah, the other questions all right. Thank you. So,
