Beginners guide to email marketing in Kartra – Send Kartra email, step by step – J.R. Fisher

Let’s Get into Kartra and let’s look at the way that we’re going to send emails. Inside a courtroom, I’m going to tell you I’ve been doing this since 2009. I’ve Used a lot of different pieces of software, then by far Kartra, does more For our business of anything else, when we switched over to character, we Actually cancelled eight different pieces of Software, because Kartra did all those things for us.

And I’m going to tell you you want to do that. You know you want to.

You, know, set Up all your list in there, you want to establish your payment. Integrations. You Want to do all the stuff, then you need to do to set up your Kartra account. I’r Not covering that in this article we’re just covering emails, but I’m assuming That you’ve got all that done because you don’t want to send emails out if They click and they can’t go to a page and nothing works. Okay, so make sure you Get all that set up first now, once I did that, of course, I set up my pages where They could click on it and they actually goes to a page and there’s actually a Product there can they can actually buy that product, so you have to have that.

Done before you set up these emails because you’re going to have them, click and Go somewhere now now I say that, but that’s only if you built a big Kartra If you’re sending them to like a WordPress website or Magento or Shopify Then you don’t have to worry about that. You can just put that link in there and Send them to that page now you want to start with your leads. Okay, so before you Can even send an email and Kartra you need somebody to send it to somebody to Receive it, so you can upload those two Kartra and they have a little bit of A lag maybe a day or two before they’re actually going to approve them, but you can Just upload all your leads to Kartra and then don’t forget to tag them me.

They Even have different products, you have different businesses. I know I have a Couple different businesses in there, so we have those people categorized in There so the emails go out to the right people so make sure you’re setting up All your tags, you’ve tagged them properly, buyers, non-buyers people who Downloaded stuff, that’s like the thing, and you have all that set up first, that Way, you’ll have all that done.

When you go to send your email, you can send it. Based on those tags, cuz you’re going to need to do that now, if you need to Collect leads: you can also do that in Kartra, I’m not covering it in this article. I’r covered emails, but you can set up opt-in forms in Kartra and you can Actually start building your email list and once you build it and they opt-in in Kartra they automatically get put on list, so you don’t have to worry about That it’s an all maduk thing now before you send these Broadcasts before you send these emails make sure if you’re uploading, your own List then you do it at least a day or two in advance since they’re there, when You want to set it out because there is that lag before they actually go into The system now you may find this irritating and I get it, but it’s really Super important because Kartra is worried about deliverability and if they Don’t go through these lists and make sure they’re done properly.

Then your Emails aren’t going to get delivered, so we want to make sure that that is done. And they’re actually doing that for your benefit, I’m going to send a broadcast so The first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to go over to my campaign. So let’s Take a look at that real, quick, it’s on the left hand side and then you tap Campaigns at the very top of the page, and then you select broadcast below so You can see that there once on the correct page, I simply tap the green plus Button and that green plus button is going to be on every single one of your Kartra pages, when you’re starting out, so you know whether you’re building a Sales page whether you’re doing email sequences, whatever you’ll, always have That green plus button, so that’s where you want to start off there.

So then Kartra is going to take you to another page and it’s going to have your Automations, your send your schedule and all your finishes and all the things you Need to do let’s go over and take a look at that now I’m going to choose to send my Message through an actual email, you can also send it through an SMS, which means It’s going to go to people’s phones, you’re going to need to use something like Twilio Or next mo or troppo, or something like that and you’re going to have to Integrate it, if that’s what you’re going to do, the next part you’re going to come to Is the send from area? This is actually the email that they’re going to see that it Actually came from and should they respond, the laxing respond to this email.

Too, once you build your email list within Kartra, you can choose who it’s Going to go to you’re going to get this drop-down and you can choose, you know: All types of different things, if you don’t have your list really built that Much yet you want to send it to everybody in the database, then you’re Going to click and I’m going to show you on the screen here: real quick you’re going to Click where it says everybody in my database, but you can also click on, has Opened email has not opened email that type of thing now the cool thing is Kartra is actually going to tell you how many leads you selected once you did.

That so you’re going to know upfront how many people is going to go off to now. Here’s a screenshot of that it says five leads selected. Five emails filled in None of them are blocked and five total to sins. So before you send you’re going to Know how many emails going to actually go out now? The next thing you can do is A be split test, so you know you can have two different emails going out depending Upon what you want to send you know, maybe you want to test one message in One different message in the other one now will tell you when you’re, when You’re testing, you only want to test one variable, so maybe it’s the headline.

Because you’re trying to increase open rate, but the email is identical. If you If you change the headline and the email you’re not going to know, you know which Email is better if you have the same exact email in two different headlines: You’re going to know which headline got them to open it more than the other one. So make sure you do that now you can also toggle between basic and advanced Now, when you do that, that’s going to give you some different options that Don’t forget, you got ta, have links in those emails when you’re sending those Emails out the whole point is to get them to click and go somewhere and do Something whether it’s a download, whether it’s to read your blog, whether It’s to buy a product, so don’t forget to put those in every single email now, once You do about one email, then you do your other email, maybe changing the headline.

So that you can test the difference in those headlines now, if you go into the Advanced setting on these emails, you can actually change components like Templates for your emails in there in colors and backgrounds, and that type of Thing: here’s a screenshot of what that looks like and you see you have design Templates right there, you have full templates, my templates, so it gives you That added feature right there now here’s an example of one of the emails Here and some of the things that you can do with it and if you notice, you know, The font really stands out well here, because the background color is Different and you can do a lot more with it if you’re in the advanced now there Are schools of thought that say? Well, you know email should be basically should Look like every other email they get from their friends and that type of Thing we tend to use just black text on a white background and I’ll put some Images in there every now, but those seem to convert better for us.

Than anything else, these take a lot more time to build ones like this, but if That’s what you want to do. You can certainly do that in culture now, one Thing you want to be careful about, is don’t click the X or delete button, an Email editor, unlike building pages and other things, In Kartra, where you can just hit the go back button once you click, the lead is Gone, you can’t go back so you’re going to lose everything.

You worked on. I’ve Written my two e-mails: does that mean I can go ahead and send them now? No, not Quite because what we have to do now is decide what percent of these emails are? Going to go to one group versus the other group, the percent has to add up to 100 %, so you know, maybe you want 50/50 split. Maybe you’re really concerned that This one emails not going to do well, so you only want to put ten person in that Then you would put 90 percent the other one either way.

You’ve got to make that Decision at this point, what is the percentage of split now, if you’re, using Any type of dynamic variables – and what I mean by that is it changes each time an Email goes out, so I may have deer and then put it in first name right. There And it’s going to fill in John or Bob or Becky or whoever it is. When do you send Out your test, email, which you should every single time, it’s going to say, dear Test in that particular area right there, so keep that in mind now, once you play Around the park for a little bit and you see what an automation is you’re going to Understand that, but you got to get in there and kind of work with it a little Bit I know initially when I looked at it, I’m Like what the heck is that? What does that mean? But now I know it and I understand it so it just takes some time and don’t quit.

You know just keep working you’ll get this stuff. I know it seems foreign to You, but it only seems foreign to you cuz, you haven’t done it once you’ve done it. A few times it’s going to seem very commonplace, so number one I can set up. An automation to go out to people who have not opened my emails after a Hundred hours, okay, I can send them a whole different email that may make them More likely to open it, maybe I can change the subject line.

Do something Along those lines, so those automations are really helpful. For cleaning up your list and getting people to open your emails when they’re Not opening them now you can also break these into lists. So number two is: if a Lead has actually opened my email, I may add, Them to another list, because I know these people are interested in my Product or services now here’s an example right here: you don’t have to do.

This, but you probably should it’s a it’s a helpful way to further segment. Your Leads by setting up these automations, so you can see here. We’ve got a couple: Things set up early holiday, painting announcement within a hundred hours if You know the lead does not open that particular one then subscribe the lead. To the list ignored, email, okay and then we have some different emails that go Out on that, and then the second one says that lead opens email, early holiday, Painting announcement: okay, subscribe them to the list: open email, And then we can send them a different automation now, at this point, Everything’s set up, I can go ahead and get ready to send out my emails now.

The Cool thing with Kartra is: I can set it up to go out right now. I can schedule it. For another day now, keep in mind the way the time works in Kartra. It’s always Set on Eastern Standard Time, so if you’re in the West Coast like we are, we Are three hours behind them? So you know if I want to send an email at you know: 12:00 noon, I’m going to need to send it for 3:00 p.M. In the afternoon. It’s all going to be settled Eastern Time, so you can do that and the last Thing you can do is if you’re working on an email and you’re not ready to send it.

You want to do some more stuff to it. You can just save it as a draft. Now the cool Thing is once you’ve sent ten broadcast in Kartra. It will start to suggest to You the best time of day and week, a month of when to send out your emails. That’s a good overview on the emails. You know if you want to eventually make money with the block that you are building right now, then you need to understand how important it is for you to be productive and focus on the things that you know. You know in as little as three months, if you really put all of the hard work and you follow everything right.

You know blog about solutions to people’s problems and in whatever niche that you are, you could be writing about weight loss, you know, or about relationship tips or whatever. So, in order for you to start profiting from the content that you put out, you will need to solve people’s problems.

You know you need to solve somebody else’s problems and you need to make sure that whenever you create a solution to a problem, you need to make sure that you present that solution to the people. That is having those problems you know. So this is where targeting your market in targeting your traffic plays a huge factor in the success of your blog. So you need to learn how to target the people that comes to your blog.

That comes in read your stuff. You know, because there’s no point on on solving a problem and then showing that solution to somebody that doesn’t even have that problem, so it doesn’t make sense. You know what I mean, so you need to make sure that you target your audience. You target the people that you promote the content to so that is very important when you, when you are building a blog online, all right so right now, I’m working on this blog post.

You know, and I want to make sure that I pack my you know my blog post without as much value as I can. Of course you know, I want to also make sure that I have more ideas and more information to make future post. So sometimes you know it when I say put it all on on the blog post. I don’t really mean to share everything that you know for every solution. You know for every problem in one blog post. You know you need to organize yourself and you know, no, you know just be really a specific with what are you going to solve with a blog post? You know every time you publish new content on your blog, make sure that that content has a goal and it solves a specific problem.

And of course you don’t want to. You know, make it the longest blog post ever. But if that’s what it takes to solve the problem, then do it. You know, but also keep in mind that you want to be blogging. You know very often so keep some information for future post. You know don’t go all out but uh, but when it comes to solving the problem you know just do whatever you can to solve a problem with every post that you have all right.

I hope I make sense here so anyway, so that is a key factor here. If you want to blow for profits, you want to solve people’s problems, and one way to do that is to just you know: surf online, basically just go online and you know look for people’s problems. You know just you can go to yahoo answers, so you can go to forums and then see what what is people asking about. You know what what kind of problems do they have? You know you should go to a forum that is relevant in your niche.

You know if you are blogging about weight loss and then go to a forum that is about weight loss, and then you can kind of ask people. Okay. What are you mane? You know questions about weight loss, so you can actually, you know, go through the forum and and see what people is talking about see what people is having problem problems with. You know, there’s a lot. You can research on the internet, so you can’t say that you, you cannot find.

You know, content for your blog or you. You don’t know what to write about, or you don’t know how to make a profitable blog site online, and I’m telling you right now the best way to make to build a blog to make money with is by solving problems with your content and by targeting who Is reading your content, you know that that is very important for you to to understand. So what you could do is you know to find problems, and i’m going to show you how I find you know problems that people is having blogging right.

So my niche is blogging, so what I do is I go to forums right. I have bookmarked all of my forums. You know I make sure that I’m organized so every time I come to work here. You know I have everything ready. So, as you can see, I have everything very organized, so this is the same thing that I want you to do. You know get organized, because this is your business. This is what you’re going to do as a full-time job.

Eventually right so you want to get organized, and so, whatever your blogging about get organized with all of the things, the links and all of the things that you need to do, you know to work on your blog on a specific niche. Alright, so my niche is internet, marketing and blogging, and you know everything related to that. So that is my niche. So what I do is I go to forums and there’s there’s one that I really like is the digital digital point forum.

So did I come here and then I just you know I I browse around. You know, I’m active, you know I I help people. I share my knowledge with people. I solve people’s problems. You know I promote my blogging here, but I also get ideas from this forum. You know because over here there’s a lot of people that you know it’s new to blogging. They have a lot of questions, there’s a lot of problems, new problems that I see you know every week that come up and I could write about you know.

So this is a very good, very good source of you know, ideas, you know so do the same thing go to forums. Do Google, you know you can go to other blogs and see what are they talking about? You know see what they’re talking about what kind of problems they are solving, and you should also you know, solve the same problem on your own words. You know, do your own research, you know. Basically, what you want to do with the blog is make it a source of solutions.

You know you want people to love your blog because they get something out of it. So the best way to approach this when you are trying to build the block and block for profits is to make sure you you are building a source of people. You got me of solutions, you know what I mean build a source of solutions where people can come in and solve a specific problem thanks to the information that is on the website on the blog.

So when people find that and they like it, they love it. You know you have solved their problems, then they are going to bookmark your site. They are going to. You know, follow you subscribe to do to your to your blog, subscribe to you. Whatever you’re doing you know, if you’re doing article marketing, you know subscribe to your blog and to your YouTube blog, follow you on social networks, so people are is going to trust your website because it has a lot of value.

So that is what you want to aim for. That’s what you want to build. So keep that in mind that you want to build a sore of solutions. You know, there’s no point mean, of course you could make money blogging about anything you want, but that is one what you know. You could do that once you have a lot of traffic coming into your site, you know, but at the beginning there’s no point. I’r blogging about just anything: if there’s no one coming in it’s like you know, throwing up it’s like throwing a party at your store when nobody is is even coming in.

You know, there’s no customers coming in on a daily basis and you’re. You are over here already, you know, setting up a party for the customers when you have none. So there’s no point on. You know just blogging about anything and being comfortable with just having a blog and the fact that you’re just writing on a daily basis. You need to have a purpose. You need to have a goal, you need to understand a lot of things and you need to build the right content.

You need to do the right marketing. You need to put everything together the right way. If you want to start blogging for profits all right, so I’m giving you some good tips right here, free for you to get started. So you know, like I told you just go to forums, go to social network. You know, and you can actually ask your friends or people that is following you in the social networks and ask them you know: what are you problems on this? A specific subject, you know find out what people is what people want.

Basically, you want to find out what people want and then give it to them. You know is the basic concept of supply and demand. You know, if you understand that, then you should understand how to build a blog. That will make you money is the same concept. Alright, so you know this is what I do to find problems in the blogging community. You know so or in the internet marketing community. So, as you can see, you know, there’s a lot of things that people talk about.

You know and look this there’s a question right here from somebody. How do I become a successful blogger? So you know what I could do is just go in there and just you know, give them some advice, and you know I have a signature in the the in this forum, so you now have a link back to my blog. So this is a good way to promote yourself and also find you know the topics that you could be talking about in your blog.

So imagine that you know you see all of this and then you write content to answer most of the questions that you see here. So imagine you do that and then you reply to all of them right. You give them a good piece of advice. You know you give them good advice and let’s say that some of them will click on yours on my signature, that takes them to my blog and since I took the time to, you know, write a blog post for each one of these questions and then answer Them don’t you think that they will find that valuable and they probably will you know, share that content and then just help me get traffic.

You know what I mean because they really liked the content. So you know your content is key when you are trying to make money blogging online. So I hope that made that very clear and now so you know put everything together: the marketing, the the content creation. You know build your following: make sure you have a fan page. You know brand yourself that there are a lot of things to talk about, but I wanted to just talk to you straight up about the simple concept of blogging for profits.

You know of how can you build a blog to make you money on the internet? You know and like I said before, you know it’s all about supplying the demand. You know if you can give something to the internet user that they are looking for. Then you can, you know, start taking advantage of that traffic. You know of that concept of you know. People want something you learn, what is it that they want, and then you give it to them.

You know it’s that simple. All you got to do, though, is learn the right information mark it as much as you want, because marketing traffic is a very, very important thing here so, and I know a lot of people a struggle with traffic out that this is why I have this blog In internet marketing blog 101, where I teach everything about traffic, you know: how can you get traffic? How can you build the blog online and make money with it you can you can find everything here so make sure you take advantage of the information and you take as much action as possible because there’s no point I’m doing all of this.

If you don’t take very consistent action and I’m talking about a lot of action at the beginning, all right, because once you start getting a lot of traffic, you can, you know chill out a little bit, you can just you know, relax a little bit more and Not do as much work, but at the beginning, if you are somebody brand new to the internet, then you need to understand that you have to put it put in the work at the beginning and you need to do the right work, and this is where I’m Going to teach you everything that you need to know, I so pay close attention, take notes and and apply what I teach you here.

The new API s are going to be available as part of the Microsoft graph API S, which is a single endpoint to access many, the office 365 services.

To begin with, we’re going to be releasing this as part of the beta version, the excel files can be addressed or files API by adding an additional URL segment at the end called workbook. This does the service that you’re in working an Excel API. An example URL is shown here. This addresses worksheets collection of the Excel document, notice that we are using files API to identify the target file and, following that with workbook segments and worksheets collection resource in terms of the functionality.

These API s, we are introducing allows state access through objects such as worksheets tables range chart and named items. Some of the actions these API support are creation and management of worksheets tables and charts, read and update range data formula number formats, formatting of range chart and tables downloading of chart is also supported. As an image, you have the option of saving your updates to the workbook, or you may simply wish to operate on the data and do analysis without saving the file.

All operations are based on open standards such as our 2.0 rest or data, and uses JSON format. For both input and output, now, let’s focus on the initial steps as a first step register your app in Azure portal, while setting up your app permissions include necessary permissions to read and write the files, follow the OAuth flow and get access token and finally use Microsoft. Graph files API to address the target file and add workbook URL segment at the end of the URL to invoke Excel API.

So let’s look at the demo, I’m going to show the demo in two parts. First I’ll use a simple web application to showcase how an app can interact with Excel data stored remotely. Secondly, I’ll run through some aps manually for the purpose of this demo. I’ll bypass odd flows and access internal bills, endpoint directly in the real world, you’ll be accessing api’s through Microsoft, graph endpoint using OAuth flow.

Now, what you’re looking at is an excel file stored online. This contains lists of tasks and priority and status and person completion and some date information. I’r going to pin this on one side and what you’re, seeing on the left side is a web application that is reading and writing to the same excel file that we just looked at. Let’s go ahead and add a new task. I’r going to choose some values here and insert a row as you can see.

As soon as I created that row in the application, the excel file got updated and essentially the application added a new row to the existing table using the same template that the application understood now. Wouldn’t it be great if we can visualize the tasks using the native excel chart feature now that all of these tasks have status? Maybe you one other question that you might have is: what is the breakup of these tasks based on the type of status? The application provides the link that goes and fetches an existing chart in the spreadsheet and download start as an image and displays it on the application.

This is a great way to use the analytical power of Excel and display the content in your mobile or web application. Now that’s the demo using the application. Now, let’s look at some of these requests manually now, I’m going to just do a couple of things onto the same spreadsheet that we are looking at I’m going to add a new worksheet and update range on top of that newly created worksheet. Just to give you a flavor of what the syntax looks like I’m going to use fiddler in order to do this and fiddler is a tool using which you can interact at the protocol level.

I’r going to go to the composer and to begin with, I’m going to add a new worksheet. So I’m going to use the worksheet address the worksheets collection and provide a JSON body stating that I want this sheet to be created which the with the name sheet 3. Now I get a 201 and on the right hand, side you can see that a new worksheet called sheet 3 got inserted. This was just a brief introduction, look for new features and enhancements, as we add, more excel api’s.

I think the best way for you to market yourself as a stylist is by showing up on social media and using social media to show the world what it is that you actually do. Best Tools to Grow an Online Business in 2020

So in this article here today, that’s what I’m going to be sharing with you make sure to hit that thumbs up and all of these tools are really easy to use, because I’m not going to lie.

I’r actually a bit of a technophobe, the first and most under utilized tool. It’s going to be something that you may be like whoa Lauren hold up here. I thought that was just for professionals. They were looking to connect with other professionals or to find jobs and to have people spam me with their jobs. You do know it’s the easiest and a free way to find your dream customers. You can literally type in a job, title or type of person and I’ll pop up.

So just think what is my dream customer do professionally and then you can find them just through searching like this, have conversations with decision makers and three get in front of people who have the income to pay. You y’all over 45 percent of LinkedIn users make more than 75 a grand per year and you don’t even need the paid version for any of that right now. It’s kind of a golden age just like Facebook about ten years ago, so you are able to grow real fast.

So what should you post on there? But I think I’m going to do an entire article on it. But for now make sure that you’re on LinkedIn make sure that you’re posting at least every other day and that you’re connecting with people and that your profile is optimized and so usually dinh and realize that there’s a lot of opportunities there. So yeah. I, like LinkedIn, for building relationships. My company, we call it permission based relationship marketing, but maybe I’ll do a article on that in the future.

So drop a comment: if you want it, I over 10,000 followers on there right now and we’re getting a lot of our clients from LinkedIn. Now, in fact, half of our plans now coming from LinkedIn, whereas before it used to be like 1 % – and I was only a few months ago, so there are some sorts of tools that you can use in order to generate. You lead using LinkedIn and if you want to know what they are just send me, a direct message on LinkedIn saying, lift in leads and then I’ll make sure that I know what that means.

So I can tell you about it sneekly, but you can connect with absolutely anyone and pro tip when you connecting with you, make sure that unknown, like I’m doing right here with these people and offer your services to them in a really non family. My second necessary tool is Google Drive. You would be shocked about how many will don’t know that this is a thing you get to use. Google Docs, which is literally just Microsoft, Word, but it’s so much better here.

Let me show you why. So when you create a new document, it will pretty much just open up and your entire team can be working on it all at once and it automatically updates. So while you’re typing something in someone else can be too so. Google Docs is great, but then there’s also Google sheets, Google, slides and even more so we use Google Forms to our business. So this is the way that you can collect data from clients.

All of these different things that I personally don’t use, but it just keeps everything organized and so simple, so we make slideshows all the time for our clients and then with regards to our sheets. We mainly just use this to keep on track of our clients and various different things that we’re doing, and if you look at this here, this may look really ugly, but these responses are from a Google Form that we had and we set up an integration so That we don’t even have to fill out this spreadsheet, it happens all automatically and it’s just such a nice way for our whole team just to have all of this information all in one.

But even if you just want to use it for personal, it’s great because it means you don’t need to download anything, it all happens and stays in the cloud which means that it doesn’t take up any space. Your computer and Google also has Google Calendar now I’ve taken these three off because there’s a lot of personal stuff there, but these three calendars, my whole team – shares them. So we all get to see when payments are due in on a calendar and it means that we’re organized and on top of things, which means that we’re being productive and not having to go ahead and check everything which allows you maximize your effectiveness and your efficiency.

So how do you know what you’re doing each day you can have your Google Calendar dictate it and you can set it up so that people can meetings with you for that specific thing on this is a big. Take then for a more user friendly project management tool. Monday dot-com is absolutely awesome. It’s super collaborative and everything inside just makes it really simple. So this is the inside of Oz and how we use it, and so there’s various different reporting’s that we do that we can keep track of in order to ensure that we’re both on top of our business and then we also have client trackers for our clients.

So you can give it a go and a taster, because it’s something that just allows virtual teams to stay on top of that tasks in a really effective way, and the nice thing is, you can set deadlines, add tick boxes just so that everyone knows where everything Is and you can even have conversations about different things, which then people get notified about? It’s really really cool second to learn I like, for that is acuity, and I actually think I have a lane they’re supposed to be only for my clients to get a free month trial, but I’ll leave it down below, so that you can get it as well, And it’s where people can actually book a time to speak to you and so, if you’re, a coach or consultant or a service provider and you’re, not taking sales schools.

Well, you definitely should be, and people are going to be able to book a pool with you using this. You can also have questions on the cool booking form, which are essentially application question. So when you go on the pool with them, they can have already partially convinced themselves. They already need your help, so this is a whole nother different topic about human psychology and everything. But basically, you see, will calendar and allow people to book kinds of you using acuity scheduling all these every single tool links down below.

So by now you know an awesome platform which is totally free. You know how to dictate your time and how to optimize the people booking cause with you, and you know that you should be doing sales calls, and so next up, I want to talk about. Okay, once you have leads once you have a way for these leads to book time on your calendar, how do you actually get the money in your bank? Well, a little bit.

We use PayPal, PayPal, scoop people’s good, but there’s actually something called transfer wise and I like this cuz. The fees are really really really low so again I’ll leave it down below, but it allows people from all around the world to pay you, and so you need it invoice them out, and so you can just use a website like invoice generator literally, you can go On google and type in generate invoice online and you’ll find invoice generator invoice home all these things you can just use them for free, that’s what I do and it will allow you to actually take payment from people, businesses who are generating under a hundred day by Month, transferwise is a really good option if you’re taking payment over the phone, which I do recommend you off, then you stripe, if you’re under a hundred kpop months.

If you’re over that, send me a DM and I’ll. Tell you about another option: that’s maybe better! For you at that stage, but I’m around a pay per month, transfer wise as well as stripe, are going to be really good option to get the money in the bank. And so now, if you have a, there are a couple of things that you should be using if you’re not doing so ready or if you have plans, okay, so the first is slack slack is awesome, it’s kind of like what’s out for business, it’s a virtual Offense, so you can have different team members come into your slack.

You can also have different clients come into your slack and then you can have blogs and blogs are essentially an office room where people can come in, they can go, but the cool thing is as they come and go they’re able to see all the previous messages That happen before, and so you can send files in there. You can send messages in that. Oh, my gosh, it’s if you have a team and you’re not using it.

You are crazy if you have a lot of individual clients and you’re, not communicating to them on that. Then you’re losing a lot of time, because it’s just such an effective way to communicate, and then it’s definitely another tool for teams. I really really like is loom. So I’ll do it again all of these link down below luminacai, it’s essentially a Chrome extension and you can void your screen record.

The audio show your face if you want to and just do articles, and so it means that when you communicating with plans when you’re communicating with your team you’d have to type things out, you just have absolutely everything in article format, which makes it so much easier To explain, I can’t believe I wasn’t using this up until about three months ago, because I used to have to try and say to a client know this part of the sales school isn’t very good.

Here’s what you need to improve and don’t explain. I was so confusing, whereas now I can have them submit allude to me they speak. I pose what they’re saying I speak with the feedback. I play what they’re saying the PMP or you can have a document and instead of having to go through the document, highlight and then write your comment. You can go through the documents and just say here’s my feedback on this part, the villa and read through it.

Just like you were something that next, but it is so good. It saves you so much time just allows you to communicate less and going back and forth less and then the next thing when it comes to actually training your team, you can record a bunch of balloons, download them and then upload them to a training hub and A training portal, so I like to thank you for that again. There are other smaller things that I use, such as Volker sir, with some clients, which is like a what’s up type of thing: I’m not really too much of a fan of it, but the first things that I’ve listed out here hasn’t one I find better ones.

I will be sure to update you and let you know, but right now, they’re my faves first thing doctor where and when it comes to document and everything I drove use. Microsoft, Word everything: Google Drive. I love Google Drive, I let you pay like ten bucks a month and get so much storage. This is immutable and yeah first place to start. If I were, you is just make sure your Google is all optimized and organized then after that, make sure that you are on LinkedIn that you’re posting content from that.

What I would ensure that you’re doing it’s just really making sure that when you’re actually having but close of you you’re sending them your acuity link and then you can keep going to get it and absolutely crush it. Making Music a Social Experience: SoundCloud’s Thom Cummings at SHARE Beirut [Wamda TV]

How are you I’m great? Thank you. I just came off stage so kind of in a host speech, exhilarating hi awesome. I enjoyed your talk, yeah just to touch up on some of the elements from that talk. Why is sound a different medium than any of the others that we consume? I think it’s it’s an easier medium to create.

You just have one button you can put on in the background. It doesn’t disrupt the scene and you have captured everything that’s going on around you. It’s also easier to consume as well. You can listen to audio whilst you’re doing other things and that’s something that you don’t necessarily have with with a lot of other media and then finally, it’s it’s just an emotionally powerful media type that the connection that you get with sound.

It really touches your your heart and your head in a way that you know other other media doesn’t do a lot of the time. So also what are some of the interesting ways that you’re creating conversations on soundcloud about sound itself yeah. So one of the most interesting things we do is take a sound and turn it into a visual object. We create a wave form of the sound itself and that really allows people to be social and interacted start a conversation around a specific point.

If it’s a lecture, maybe an interesting thing that you learn and you want to start discussing around or maybe it’s a piece of music and you really appreciate the segment there, so people are really creative in the ways that they use that device and it creates, creates A spark of collaboration on our platform – and you see entrepreneurs using this. You know musicians, artists, peoples using this to kind of promote their brand yeah.

I mean most musicians today, our entrepreneurs so having a release tool for them. That’s either free or affordable, depending on how they want to use it. It’s it’s one of the most important things that you can put in your toolkit as a musician or also as a amateur podcaster. We’ve seen a lot of people creating creating news articles and content on soundcloud. That’s a that’s another great emerging way of civilians being able to take to take journalism into their hands and create something outside of the pre-existing system.

Absolutely and finally, also what are some interesting? Apps that people are building on the soundcloud api, have you seen that space grow in the past year? Yeah? Absolutely our api? Is it’s a wonderful place, so you have a huge amount of diversity. Some of my favorite apps would be there’s a fantastic journalism, app for creating and editing content on the move called Hindenburg and a lot of a lot of people in the in the industry using that and using the Soundcloud integration there.

Then it goes from from that scale. We have a lot of them. Major music digital workstations are using soundcloud apples, GarageBand posts to SoundCloud, which is which is fantastic addition for us, and it goes from that all the way down to the very simple beat making apps that you get on on your iPhone or your Android that you can Just create something in 60 seconds and then put it online and it’s it’s fun.

Ok, so we span the spectrum of fun to very kind of serious professional, very cool, and I also just think it’s cool that you’re creating an archive of sound. You know to last so yeah. We look forward to seeing the applications of that yeah. I think we have to start capturing the history now. Accessibility with Marcy Sutton – The State of the Web

”. My guest is Marcy Sutton Head of Learning at Gatsby and former Developer Advocate at Deque Systems and today we’re talking About web accessibility, Let’s get started: [ MUSIC PLAYING ], So Marcy thanks for being here. What exactly does Accessibility mean MARCY SUTTON To me. It Means building websites that include people With disabilities, both building for People with disabilities and with people With disabilities, including them as Stakeholders hiring them to work on our teams.

Paying them for their work to review things. For accessibility and give us feedback Along the way, RICK VISCOMI, So when a Website isn’t accessible. What’s at stake, MARCY SUTTON A lot! If you think about how many Services are moving online if accessibility isn’t Built in then, it could present Barriers for people with disabilities, where They can’t use the service They might give up and Leave or worse, it might cause harm to Them if they have something like a traumatic Brain injury or seizure risk So there’s actually Quite a bit at stake if the web isn’t accessible, RICK VISCOMI, So even with The Domino’s lawsuit recently that came out where They lost their appeal.

Do you think that Websites will actually have a push towards more Accessible websites, especially now that lawyers Realize the legal risk MARCY SUTTON In The United States legislation can certainly Help and people can lean on the Law in this country to enforce their civil rights, So having rulings like The Domino’s ruling could potentially Help since there has been an absence of rulings, In favor of including websites under the Americans, With Disabilities Act, but I think there will be More to read in that space I have seen and read and Heard about companies looking at competitors, That have been sued and sort of feeling like Oh, maybe we’re next, so there can be some Market pressure, if there are legal actions being taken And if that’s what it takes, To make something accessible, then I think that’s moving.

In the right direction, RICK VISCOMI, Where do The breakdowns typically happen when a website Becomes inaccessible, Are the managers just Not buying into it Are the developers unaware Of the importance of it, lack of developer Tools all of the above MARCY SUTTON, I think It’s mostly an education issue and awareness, So to sort of try and Solve this problem, I advocate building a Culture around accessibility, so that everyone at the company Is involved and invested From project managers to Designers and developers, we all have a part to play in Making the web more accessible – And it is true that A lot of people just aren’t aware of the Impact that they could have There’s also the misconceptions That accessibility is costly and maybe not worth it.

It’s too niche of an audience, But actually it can improve. Things for a lot of people, If you think of it in Terms of inclusive design, the benefits that we Put into our websites like keyword, support, improving Contrast and font size those can help a lot of people, So it’s definitely worth it. And it’s easier and less costly. If you do it from the beginning, RICK VISCOMI. Is it something –? 10 % of the population has Some form of disability, so it’s more than niche, It actually affects A lot of people, MARCY SUTTON – I think it’s More than that, actually one in five people – RICK VISCOMI, Oh wow, MARCY SUTTON And the range of Disabilities is pretty wide, so there’s all Kinds of scenarios that people can be Browsing your website and they might have situational Or temporary disabilities People are born With disabilities There’s a whole spectrum of How people use the web that’s really kind of beautiful And if we can Embrace that, like we did with responsive Design and letting go of some of that control.

Over pixel perfection and how the user actually Visits our website there’s some real opportunities. There to innovate and make things that are way more robust, RICK VISCOMI. What did you Mean by situational disability, MARCY SUTTON, If You break your arm if you have a baby in one arm. Or a cup of tea or coffee, you might hold your Phone in a different way or have to switch arms If you are born with Something like that, you might permanently not Be able to use your arms, And so you have to use other Input modalities like voice, or maybe you use a joystick With your mouth or something And so there’s new Devices and ways of navigating that don’t rely.

On the default of perfectly working limbs and the abilities That most people, think of So there are some Opportunities and people are pretty resilient. They figure out ways. To navigate the web And if we can Support them better, then that’s pretty awesome, RICK VISCOMI That Reminds me of Android Auto, where, if I’m driving My car, my phone, is not necessarily a thing. I’r putting Right directly, in my face So their way of Interfacing with devices changes entirely depending On your situation, MARCY SUTTON, Yes and a Lot of those technologies were developed for People with disabilities, so it’s worth Considering that, maybe some of the things that We appreciate, and we can use every day were invented.

For people who needed it, RICK VISCOMI, I want to go back. To something that you mentioned earlier about having Users with disabilities, or even people with Disabilities on your team, as part of the Development process, How can you implement Accessibility as part of the Process in a way that ensures that the website’s Going to be accessible, MARCY, SUTTON Well, Certainly including people on your teams to be Stakeholders and provide feedback in regular intervals.

That would be the best way. Is to have people embedded on your teams who Have disabilities mainly because they Have experiences and perspectives that, as Able-Bodied developers, we just can’t make that up. It’s not your lived experience. So having that feedback, all the Time would be truly valuable And people get to Work on your teams and you pay them for Their work and I think that’s a really good way to go: RICK VISCOMI, How about Part of the design process, If a website, for example, Is built to be entirely using Canvas or Flash or Something if people have a specific technology, In mind where it’s just never going to be accessible, How can you actually prevent that from happening Where, in the design Process, do you actually make those decisions? To be accessible, MARCY SUTTON, I think Having some requirements about how users should be able To navigate the site should definitely start in design, I mean hopefully you’re Not getting too locked down on a given technology, — RICK, VISCOMI Hopefully not Flash MARCY SUTTON — in The design phase Yeah Flash no way But Canvas –.

There have Been whole websites built with Canvas And accessibility Unfortunately, was an afterthought in A lot of those cases – And we do have some Standards for Canvas that are better than They were four years ago, but you still have To re-implement a lot of native Functionality that you would get for free if you used The DOM or the Document Object Model RICK VISCOMI. Are you referring To the Accessibility Object Model, MARCY SUTTON, No, So with Canvas.

If you Provide fallback content, there’s a method called Draw focus if needed, You can pass off some Of these interactions from the two-dimensional Canvas Which is essentially a bitmap to that fallback content. And try to create some sort of a Semantic experience, but that’s a lot of work And if you can use the Document Object Model which does feed into what’s. Called the accessibility tree –, which is a fancy Term for a structure with accessibility, information – –: you can do a lot and Communicate to users of assistive technology, What’s going on on the screen, RICK VISCOMI, What’s the Current state of accessibility in developer tools, Either in the browser or as part of testing MARCY SUTTON, Pretty Great actually From when I got started as a Front-End developer everything for accessibility in terms Of this accessibility tree that I mentioned all Of that information was sort of hidden Under the hood And you had to go, Crawl through the Dom and go look at what was on The page and sort of just know what was going on there And now we have developer tools.

Like in Chrome and in Firefox, and it’s amazing how much you Can learn about accessibility through those tools? It would be great to Have more but we’ve come a really long way. Both with built-in dev tools and browser extensions, And automated tools, so I think the future is pretty Bright in terms of tooling RICK VISCOMI, What was your Experience with axe-core and what did it do? Marcy SUTTON, axe-core Is an accessibility API written with JavaScript? It’s an open source library that I used to work on full-time And it’s used in both Lighthouse And Accessibility, Insights from Microsoft, so it’s sort of An engine and a common rule set for testing accessibility And its used a lot of places.

It’s pretty cool, There’s other APIs. As well like WAVE and some others that aren’t Coming to mind at the moment, but it’s nice to have a common Set of rules and the engine that people can Count on and they can use it in different ways: Such as in browser extensions and in automated tooling To use a common rule set so that some Testers on your team aren’t using a different set. Of rules than the developers, for example, Because then you’re working Off two different sets of requirements, and it can Be hard to meet in the middle RICK VISCOMI You had Mentioned that axe-core’s integrated with Lighthouse The HTTP Archive runs Lighthouse On 5 million websites, so we can get some Of that analysis from axe-core aggregated To the scale of the web, I actually have a few stats, So 22 % of web pages tested Passed the color contrast audit from axe-core 50 % of pages are passing the Lighthouse image alt attribute being present audit, So it’s kind of surprising To see how low accessibility adoption is in certain Areas of the web and having a tool like Axe-Core is just really great to be able to get That visibility, MARCY SUTTON, Sadly It’s actually better than I expected RICK VISCOMI That Is pretty sad, MARCY SUTTON? It is sad Yeah, it’s depressing.

There is a project from WebAIM Called The WebAIM Million, where they ran the WAVE automated tool. So in what ways do accessibility, And single-page apps not play well together: MARCY SUTTON, Quite A few, unfortunately, I mean all of the Basics of accessibility apply if you’re building A website that’s heavy, with JavaScript So things like image, alt text and color contrast, But when we have this Javascript layer, that’s taking over a lot of The interactions that would be happening, In a web browser, we have to do a bit more To support users who are navigating with Assistive technology and using the keyboard Things like focus management, making announcements Using unobtrusive motion, If we’re using a Lot of JavaScript to try and delight Users, we have to try not to cause Harm with those But I’d say, probably the Focus management piece is the biggest Thing that we have to handle because If the browser is not refreshing, the page When the page changes a user using a Keyboard might be stuck in the prior part of The screen, or they have no idea what happened – If they’re in a screen reader or something So we have to manage Their experience going through the Application and that can be pretty cool.

Actually, I think it’s another area, That we can innovate And I’m hoping that frameworks And potentially browsers could help make this easier, So that would be a good space. To try and move the needle a bit to support developers without Them all having to re-implement all of the same things: RICK VISCOMI, Even kind of More of an old-school UI component, like modal dialogs Has its own focus problems? Can you describe some of The accessibility issues with modal dialogs and What’s being done on the HTML standard side to fix that MARCY, SUTTON Sure yeah, So modal dialogs are An example of some of these same Things I was talking about with focus management, So you have a layer that Opens up over the screen, It probably has content Behind it, maybe a screen curtain to gray it out When that modal opens, you Have to send focus into it, so the keyboard user Or screen reader user is in the right.

Part of the page they’re not left behind The modal window, So that means that you Also need to disable any interactive content. Behind that modal window and that part can Get pretty tricky You have to do some DOM Walking potentially set aria-hidden and tabindex On interactive controls and most people are not Going to do that DOM walking It’s hard. It’s expensive performance, Wise and you have to do it –, you know every time the modal Opens walk it down and –.

It’s like you’re doing it. In inverse both directions, So what would be great Is in the standard space, if we could have Something like HTML inert. It’s an attribute that Was proposed a while back, I think it was at Risk of being removed – and nobody is convinced, That we really need it. This is me officially Saying yes, we need it because the alternative Is a lot of DOM walking that, frankly, very little People are going to do So.

What that would do for us Is make it a lot easier to set a Boolean attribute in Html to effectively disable whole subtrees of the HTML Dom And that way when we send focus into a Modal, we don’t have to do as much in the background. It helps to have Sibling elements, so maybe the modal and the Content behind it are siblings. That way, you can just turn Off all the other content, So that does take a bit Of work from the developer to structure their DOM that Way, but that attribute would solve a whole Lot of pain, as well as the dialog element in HTML, That’s another one.

That’s At risk of being removed, I think it’s Firefox At this point that we need to implement dialog That could give us some of this Behavior for free, like focus management having a Semantic HTML element that would tell users of Assistive technology that it is a dialogue, So there’s some Patterns here that — to have every Developer in the world have to re-implement the same Things over and over again, it seems like we should Have some more primitives for making that easier, RICK, VISCOMI Yeah That sounds super important MARCY SUTTON And complicated [ CHUCKLING ], RICK VISCOMI, You’ve advocated In the past, for something called an accessibility, Statement, What is that, and why is that? So good for accessibility, MARCY, SUTTON, Accessibility, Statements are great tools, no matter what kind of a website You’re making, whether it’s with heavy JavaScript or not So an accessibility, Statement is generally a page on your website.

That’s easy to find: maybe it’s linked. Your website footer, and it has things Like what you’re doing to improve accessibility, Maybe what level of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines? That you’re aiming for It’s nice to have that Goal and that target whether or not you’ve Actually met it, but you have to keep actively Working at that to improve You can also collect Any accessibility, tips or information about Keyboard shortcuts or ways to use your website For accessibility and ways for users To contact you, That’s one of the Most important pieces having an affirmative Statement that says: hey, we might not Be perfect at this, but we’d love your feedback.

And get in touch with us And if people do Act on that feedback, So it’s opening That conversation to bring people in and Make them feel included and give them a way To give you feedback, Because a lot of These websites that have glaring Accessibility issues: we have no way to contact them, So you might see some tweets Of people calling out companies because they can’t use the Website or the service, Maybe an update to the Website or application breaks, what used to work? So if you have That statement it gives people a way to contact You in an official blog so that you can act On that feedback, RICK VISCOMI, It must be really Reassuring to go to a website and see that they actually Care about accessibility, MARCY, SUTTON, Absolutely RICK, VISCOMI, So What resources would you recommend for Web developers, who want to learn more about Creating accessible websites, MARCY SUTTON, So many –, The A11Y Project, Is really great? There’s an accessibility, Course, from Alice Boxhall and Rob Dodson at Google, on Udacity, I have a page on my website.

It’s MarcySutton.Com, There’s a web accessibility. Resources guide there and I collect things like Books and tools and articles and things that I refer to a lot There’s quite a bit out there. From companies like WebAIM, They have really great articles Deque. My former employer has A thing called Deque University: They offer free Accessibility, training to people with disabilities; Which is really great So there’s definitely a wealth.

Of information out there Just getting it to the people, To solve this education problem is sort of the gap that We need to figure out RICK VISCOMI And how About No Mouse Mondays, or what do you call it? Marcy SUTTON? Yes, I released an npm Package this week to sort of put a tool in the Hands of developers to turn off the mouse cursor for everyone, It was sort of a Joke but it actually could be useful as a Dev tool so something to pull into your Project maybe one day a week to actually have a No mouse day of the week, RICK VISCOMI, That reminds me Of 2G Tuesdays or something to get the feel for Slow performance, MARCY, SUTTON, Yeah, RICK VISCOMI.

I think That’s a good idea: MARCY SUTTON Yeah, It’s sort of a Chaos Monkey Approach to things of you know, if you Unplug, your mouse or don’t have that capability. How resilient is your design? Can you actually use it And some of the most Glaring accessibility challenges I see are with color Contrast and a lack of keyboard access, So if we could Somehow, culturally, build in tools and processes. To get us thinking about that, that would help So the No-Mouse Mondays is the First experimental version, but I have plans for it: RICK VISCOMI, It’s a good idea, All right Marcy.

This just make sure you post a link back to our site and that’s when you’ll really start seeing those Google rankings now for automation, links, that’s what we’re focused on is giving our links into other web sites that are higher than us better than us.

So we’re writing articles making articles and sharing that content with them just to get those links back to the site and that’s what will bring us to the first page of Google now. The BEST low cost MARKETING STRATEGY for Small Business (2020)

Don’t do that. I thought this was a dancing article, so I opened it up, but it says I spend zero time proving myself to anybody. It’s not why you are posting any article of your dancing. Welcome back to the podcast /youtube show the six bigger sign. Hustle muse goddess asks: what are some low budget high return marketing techniques that we can follow? Well funny.

You should ask that, because I talked about one all the time. It’s literally just posting on Instagram. How low-budget is it if you already have a phone and you already have Internet service and it’s literally free, your Instagram account is free. You taking and repurposing photos is free. If you want to take out the little @ symbol out of the repost symbol, then you just pay like a dollar a month.

So that’s one dollar and all you need to do is invest your actual time into finding photos to re post. I do a whole article about how you can build out your Instagram page when you don’t have any original content. What we have done with one of my business with the no label extensions page also is create an inspiration page as a whole cell hair company owner. I cannot rely on any of my clients, posting tagging us as their source, because that would expose their plug and then everyone that they sell to would know to just come to us and get it at half price.

So that’s the last thing that we’re going to do. That’s the last thing. They’re going to do so, knowing that we weren’t going to have that feedback, knowing we weren’t going to have that user-generated content, we decided to make an inspiration page that provides value to stylists value, to models, because we always try and tag the stylist and the model And our audience is growing at like a thousand followers a week.

I think faster than that, because we’re almost a twenty one. Twenty two thousand – and we started this at the start of the year – and this is with very little user-generated content. I’d say less than 5 % of our posts are actually of like photos that we’ve taken ourselves so posting on Instagram. As long as you are consistent as long as you are smart about your posts, then you are going to grow as long as you are using your hashtags and following all of the advice that I always drop, then like search look through my articles on my blog There are so many articles where I talk about Instagram strategies, so we won’t get into all of them, but that is one free way.

Another free way. It’s what we’re doing right here right now. Yes, you guys know. I have upgraded my just down here. You guys know I love me. A glueless wig got to keep that down. Had all the puffs destroyed okay, so, yes, I did upgrade my camera quality, but when I started off recording content like the articles that have some of the highest views on them on my youtube blog were shot on my iPhone on my iPhone.

That’s it! If you want to go ahead and invest in more lights, if you want to go ahead and vest in more lights, I got the ring light up. There got some spots lights, I have so many lights. I have so many microphones, but I’ve been creating content like as my job. I was a jerk broadcast journalist. I worked in the news. I’ve been a content creator for over a decade. This is just kind of what I do, but you don’t need all of this equipment.

I recorded articles on my cell phone to specifically show you that you could do it too, that you don’t need all of this fancy equipment, especially when you’re not just getting started or when you’re just getting started. That, I feel, is an excuse that people make. Oh, I don’t have the right camera or I’m going to wait until I can afford to the lights. Get next to a window go out in the Sun. That is the ultimate light source and start recording on your cell phone show people what you’re working with when it comes to this hair.

This no label extension I have to show up, and I have to show you what I’m working with. Otherwise, you don’t know that you have the opportunity to buy it. That is what you can do. Low budget high return, marketing techniques, pull out your cameras, start recording articles. Let me see muse goddess is selling you of all people should invest in a little weeks here. What are you going to say about this when it comes to you as a choreographer? You should be listening to like the trending things, see what challenges are going around there and show us how you are interpreting that through your artistry, Instagram was literally created for you and then, of course, YouTube is a wonderful visual, medium but Instagram says that’s where the Attention is that in people I’m people and people, I love reading people dance on Instagram.

You are giving people like me joy, because you’re dancing for us to something popular in trendy and we think and it’s just dope. So I think that is what you should be focused on making sure that you’re putting out constant content showing what you can do and I promise you will see a return on it.
