Today, I'm going to share 7 digital marketing. Strategies that I have personally used and gotten results with, And if there's only one thing that you take away From this article, it's to not try all of these at once. Instead pick one of these strategies: experiment, and master the blog before moving on to the next, Let's get to it. So before we dig into these strategies, you need to make sure that you're adopting today's mindset of the consumer.
Today we live in a "content" first world. People are looking for information before they buy, so you need to put yourself in the buyer's shoes, rather than allowing yourself to get blinded by how great you think your products and services are. The mentality you need to adopt is to help people, rather than trying to cold, sell them. When you help people solve problems through free and valuable content that is relevant to your business. You reach larger audiences and build trust. The best part is that you get the opportunity. To show people how your products and services can help them solve their problems and fulfill their desires and needs.
BLOGGING!
Alright, so the first internet marketing strategy is blogging with SEO. Isn't writing about what you did today, or even something nobler like an epiphany, you had. This kind of content can work well if you have an existing and loyal audience. But for most of us, we just want to get more traffic leads and sales. We need to intentionally target problems that your target audience wants to solve In the world of blogging. This whole process can be summed up as a technique called a keyword, "Research". Let me show you two clear-cut examples of how keyword research works.
In the first example? Let's say you sell physical products like computer parts and accessories. What do you think future customers might be searching for in Google. Probably questions like why is my computer so slow. How to build a computer,? How to speed up a computer? These are all very real problems that people are looking for solutions to? Ahrefs' Keywords Explorer, tells us exact search queries get tens of thousands of searches each month. Now the best part about these specific queries, Is that you can help people solve their problems while integrating products from your store? In the content, "Why is my computer so slow?" It could be a hard drive, CPU or ram problem. So you should be blogging about fixing a slow computer. That will help readers diagnose their problems.
Don't forget to offer product solutions within your post "How to build a computer'' would be a super easy plug for any computer components. They're already showing intent to build, so it's unlikely that they've already purchased parts and peripherals.
Alright, here is the second example. Let's say: you're a real estate agent and you're compensated when someone buys sells or rents a property Now the thing that most agents do is boast. About how many homes they've sold or how they won an award that you nor I have never heard of. My point is that the average buyer or seller doesn't care and to prove my point, no one is searching for things like which realtor won the most awards in New York. But again, potential customers are looking For solutions to their problems. Problems like how to invest in real estate. How to buy a house? What credit score is needed to buy a house? And again, these all have the potential to attract a massive audience By ranking in Google for something like "how To invest in real estate?'' Now attracting potential buyers with deep pockets and they likely have intent to buy Content on "How to buy a house?'' would likely require the work of an agent at some point which could be you. "What credit score is needed to buy a house'' Is a great way to show that your knowledge and intentions go beyond making a sale. The best thing about blogging for SEO is that once you rank you'll be getting free, consistent and passive traffic from Google. If you're new to SEO.
Keyword Research
On doing keyword research that grows traffic and revenue, as well as an article on how to write A blog post with SEO in mind, for now, let's move on to the second strategy: Which is to invest in article content specifically on YouTube. YouTube is the second most visited search. The engine in existence To top that off article carousels nearly doubled, In 2017, in Google's search results, Video isn't just the future. It's the present and the same principle of helping potential Customers work for the article too. When people go to article search engines like YouTube, they're, looking to find answers to their questions. For example, if you bought a so-called "new iPhone X" on eBay, you might search for "Phone X, unboxing'' and see if all of the contents. Are in the box And according to Ahrefs' Keywords, Explorer 108,000 searches are happening each month globally on YouTube alone.
For this keyword, this article that you're reading right now was chosen because I can see that people are specifically looking for digital marketing. Tutorials for beginners To come up with topic ideas that people are searching for in your niche head over to Ahrefs' Keyword, Explorer switch the search engine to YouTube and search for a broad keyword in your niche. Let's use "makeup'' as an example.
Now "makeup'' as a standalone keyword, isn't a problem. So, let's go to the questions report where you can see popular questions. People are searching for your topic and right away. You'll see great topic: ideas, Like, "how to clean makeup brushes'' and how to cover acne with makeup. Now when you're, creating these articles, try And keep the fluff out and pack in as much necessary value as possible doing this has helped us grow our YouTube views to over 150,000 views per month and best of all, since all of our articles show how our SEO tools can help it's led to thousands of new paying leads and customers specifically mentioning that they found us through YouTube. Most of our article growth was done through Youtube SEO so I'll leave links to a tutorial to help you rank your articles and get more views. Next up is social media marketing, Rather than covering every social media network.
I want to pass on a couple of important tips that will help you grow your social blogs. The first is to focus on just one social media, Blog when you're, just starting It takes time to build a following, But numbers aren't everything. What you want is a loyal following When you dip your toes into every possible Social media network out there, your attention gets divided and the results get diluted So which social media marketing blog do You choose That leads us into the second tip, which is to go where your target audience is.
And cater to the platform, If you have to choose just one social network, it's not about choosing the one with the Most active users, It's all about understanding the audience. That'S there and if you can serve the reason for them being there, You need to think about why someone Is logging into the specific social media network, For example, people usually go to YouTube. To learn how to do something or to be entertained, But Facebook is different.
Think about it. Have you ever logged onto Facebook, hoping That you would see an unboxing tutorial Or better yet have you ever opened your Facebook App hoping you would find a limited time offer that's 97 % off only for the next 37 minutes? Probably not People don't check Facebook with a credit card in hand. People like and share helpful things. Interesting, shocking or funny, So if you are going to try and bring people Into your world present your message as a story article or something else that will Likely stand out from the endless feed of vacation vanity shots Pinterest, on the other hand, is primarily a Social search engine where people can control what they want to search for The primary intent of users on this platform.
Is to get inspired, learn things and plan to do things So create content that caters to their intent. For being there, So if this is your audience, take advantage, Of a less competitive landscape from both ads and organic perspective, Speaking of ads, that's the next digital marketing. Strategy on the list for today, When it comes to paid advertising, please do not Throw your money blind into an ad network, because you read that it was good.
What works for one person won't necessarily work for the next person Instead think about the ABCs of paid advertising. A is for audience B is for budget and C is for commerciality. We'Ve already covered the audience part. You want to engage on social networks where Your target audience hangs out The Budget is the next one. Bloomberg reported that Google and Facebook Own a combined 58 % of the 111 billion dollar market Now the way ads work are usually based on auctions, The more advertisers there are, the more expensive It gets for you and I So let's say you're in the ultra-competitive Industry of conference calling, If we search for that keyword in Keywords, Explorer with Google set as the search engine you'll see that the cost per click from Google Ads is $ 20.
If you have an ad budget of let's say $ 1,000 per month, then, you'd only be able to get 50 clicks before your budget was depleted. Instead, you can do two things. The first option is to look for keywords that Have a lower cost per click Just go to the Phrase match report to see. All keywords in our keyword database that contain your target keyword Next set a filter to only show keywords that Have a maximum cost per click of something lower like $ 5 From here, you can filter through the list.
And see if there are some more lucrative opportunities rather than spending $ 20 per click, This one for a “ conference call app'', might Be good since it's a quarter of the price Another benefit. Is that the reason behind The searcher's query is more clear. Someone searching for this is looking For an app that does conference calls, whereas someone searching for just “ conference Call'' could be looking for many different things.
The second thing you can do is an experiment. With less popular ad platforms, where your target audience might be, Finally is commerciality. Now all major ad platforms can bring Roi for their advertisers, Otherwise, they wouldn't exist, But you have to find a way to bridge the gap. Between the intent of the platform and how you monetize your products And the solution is going to be content, For example, let's say you sell boutique furniture And think that Pinterest will be a good platform to run some ads.
In my opinion, it wouldn't be a good idea. To advertise a bunch of links to high-end furniture like couches and dining tables, Instead, blog posts could work well. Here, since people log on to Pinterest mainly to get inspired and learn new things, Here's what that bridge might look like Pinterest ads would be the discovery tool You pay them money and they'll show your pin. The bridge would then be a helpful blog post.
On, let's say: “ 11 Interior Design Tips For Your Living Room That Won't Break the Bank.'' And within that content you could showcase your products where it supports the tip you're. Speaking of Nail, the ABCs of paid ads and increase your chances of actually converting your hard-earned dollars into ROI Next up is one of my favorites and that's podcasts. Now there are two ways to look at. Podcasts First are to create your own and the second Is to be interviewed on someone else's podcast, Creating your podcast can be great for Brand and building an audience, But if you're just starting it can take Quite a bit of time to get any sort of traction Getting interviewed on.
Podcasts are a different story. Podcasters are always looking for interesting. People to interview, Even if you don't have a ton of experience, In the online world, your offline experiences and expertise could be a great way to land Yourself a position on a popular podcast. Now, if you don't know which podcasts you Should approach an easy way to find opportunities is to look at your favorite podcasts and find Someone in your industry that has been interviewed Looking at the podcast page for Entrepreneur, On Fire, you'll see this episode with Jim Kwik.
Now, if we click through to the interview You'Ll notice, two things: The first is that the guest's name is in the title. This is very common for the podcast. Interviews. Second, is the link on the page? The host will almost always link to the guest's Home page in the show notes, Knowing this we can use a tool like Ahrefs' Site Explorer to find all podcasts they've been interviewed on So I'll enter in jAlso Set the search mode to a URL search, so we can find pages that are linking specifically To the homepage, Once the overview page loads go to the backlinks Report which will show you all of the pages that are linking to this URL. Finally, let's use the Include search and Type in Jim Kwik And to keep our results super relevant. I'm Going to set the filter to search for his name only in the titles of the referring pages, And we now have around 120 podcasts.
We can Pitch to get interviewed So filter through relevant podcasts and pitch The host as to why they should interview you and the value you can give to their audience Next on the list is email marketing. If you've ever looked into email marketing, then you've probably heard people claiming That “ email is king.'', But I promise you that once you get into it, You'Ll quickly discovers that it's not as turnkey as online gurus make it sound And don't get me wrong.
Email marketing is great, But first you need the traffic to get email subscribers. It also requires opt-in forms to turn a visitor Into a subscriber, In my opinion, email is a great long play. To build a connection with your audience and even sell high ticket items, So my tip for you on email marketing is quite simple. First focus on building your email list from day one It's important and you might as well collect Emails from interested people from the start, even if it's not a substantial list, But be realistic with your goals and as you build Your audience put more time into your email list and see how it can serve your business.
The final strategy is to use forums and Community boards, Community forums like Quora Reddit and Facebook Are great promotion blogs But before you go off and start posting links, To your product pages, there are a few things you need to understand, And these are all based around the unspoken Rules of spam First, don't promote your products or services. Pages within these groups, users on these platforms intend to learn Not to be sold to directly Instead think of these networks as a place, To share your expertise, build relationships and help others Second use links to your content sparingly.
If you're constantly posting links to your Blog and have justified in your head that this is non-promotional, then you're most Likely wrong Links can be more appropriate based on the network you're posting on, For example, Quora generally, has longer answers and linking to your content, where it supports your point is a good idea. Facebook groups, on the other hand, are a different Story, Let's say: you're a real estate agent and you Join a “ first time, homebuyers'' group on Facebook.
If someone asks a question like “ I'm looking to buy my first home and was wondering if I can even get a mortgage?'' Now, if every agent on that group posts links to their website, can you see how spammy that could get? Instead, it would make sense to post a link. To someone else's affordability, calculators or offer introductions to blenders, The point is that helping first will go a Lot farther than self-promotional content that can taint your reputation Now.
I'd love to hear from you, Which digital marketing strategy do you think Is most effective in online marketing? Let me know in the comments and if you enjoyed This article then make sure to like share and subscribe for more actionable SEO and Marketing tutorials So keep grinding away focus on one marketing. Blog before trying the next and I'll see you in the next tutorial
Hello you! I wanted to go ahead and make an article all about how to become a social media manager.
This is what I have done. I've worked both in corporate America, fortune 500, nonprofits and startups, I've also worked for the past few years as a freelancer. I love social media advertising and organic content strategy, and then I also do a lot of article production work. Article editing and article marketing are key! If you are into things like that. Keep reading!
Now don't get scared here, I'm not saying that you have to go to college as I did. I'm not to saying that this can mean a variety of different things for different people, but I will say that one of the big things that I do see when people come work with me as their coach or who leave a comment under these articles. Is that they are hungry for success.
I have this Facebook group that took off so I became a social media manager now and that's great. I think, having that experience and having that portfolio piece which we'll talk about later is important, but it's also really important to understand business and to Understand kind of the business terms and sort of the business processes and all that kind of stuff, in addition to just knowing how to organically grow something or you know getting lucky, if you will so there truly are so many different ways that you can Get educated like I said it doesn't have to be formal education.
Necessarily now I did go to college. I went to school for film article Media Studies and political science. Those are not necessarily the majors I would choose now. If I knew what I wanted to do with social media management, I would probably look at you know marketing business communications, which my degree was in the School of Communication. So I did have a lot of writing classes and interpersonal communication public speaking things like that, which all help me but even a photo or article is really important.
I know a lot of people are like. Oh so you don't use your degree and I'm like. Are you kidding me, I film articles every single day, if not for my own YouTube blog, which is a big marketing tool for my business, but for my clients, so those are all good. Majors talk to your advisor see what they recommend. Some schools even have like digital marketing programs now so definitely check with them, but, as I said, if you have chosen to not go to college, if it's too expensive, which believe me I know I was lucky, I got a scholarship.
There are lots of other ways to learn a few resources that I always recommend number one HubSpot Academy is amazing. Please take advantage of that. I think all of the courses are free. I've taken inbound and taking a content marketing course right now. They have a ton of really good courses that are free like I said, I think that they all are free. I'm going to list that down below there's also another free course that facebook offers called the Facebook blueprint, and that is, of course that teaches you how to use Facebook Ads and then, of course I do have some resources as well.
There are lots of courses out there. Those are just a couple that I recommend, but do your research, you know, use skills, share, use, and all of those things use YouTube. You're doing the right thing right now by researching. But learn even after you go to college, even after you think that you know everything in this industry. Guess what it is constantly changing, so that is like my biggest tip, is to always be on top of learning step number two you're going to need to build a portfolio, so this can be difficult if you didn't go to school, for social Media which not a lot of people do it can be difficult.
If you don't have an internship, it can be difficult if you're kind of starting from nothing so number one like I talked about. Maybe you did have an Instagram account that kind of blew up or a Facebook group that you managed, or maybe you have a podcast on the side or something that you can kind of share as an example of the work that you do and that you can make your pet project and build it up and show some success with that.
You know that can be one example or one thing that you put into your portfolio. Another thing you can do is take portfolio projects, so portfolio projects is a fancy way of saying a free or low-cost project for a friend or family, friends, and family discount. Essentially, that's what a lot of people do to get started. You know if you have a friend who has a business, if your aunts, I don't know, needs help with her LinkedIn page or something like offer your services at a discounted rate or for free.
I know that a lot of marketers and people and the internet are very against doing free work, but honestly, I think that it's just kind of like an internship, you know, so I do portfolio projects here and there, especially when I'm trying to break Into a new kind of niche or a new type of industry, or try something new with my content, I might do like one thing. That'S my key and I have a podcast episode all about this, so I'll link that down below as well.
But the key is not to be like oh I'll, do your social media for a year to build my portfolio, no no say I'll! Do 10 photos or I'll write, 10 captions for you or I'll. You know cover one event for you or something like that. I'll plan out one content calendar for you, don't make it like this ongoing thing where you're always working for free. I think that's. The key number three is market yourself, so whether you want to work in the house somewhere, meaning you want to get a job in social media management or you want to start your own business you're going to need to market yourself.
That'S just the world that we live in nowadays, personal branding is everything so if you're going, the more traditional job route make sure that your LinkedIn is updated. Linkedin is social media and I think that it's kind of a great portfolio type work. It's a great example of who you are and if you can get good engagement on your LinkedIn posts and your LinkedIn profile is put together and nice.
You probably know something about social media, so definitely make sure that that is all up-to-date. Let me know in the comments down below if you'd like me, to do a full episode on LinkedIn and then the same thing, though, if you're looking to freelance or start your own business LinkedIn is huge for me and my own business as well. I kind of used to think of it as a very typical corporate type thing, but know everybody needs a LinkedIn.
If you ask me so definitely make sure that you go ahead and clean that up, but you also may want to consider a website like a portfolio website, so look into that it can be affordable to build a website using Squarespace. That'S my preferred service, but I know a lot of people swear by Wix and other website builders. It'S pretty easy nowadays and it can be a really low cost. You don't need to have 10 million pages on your first website.
I think that this is something that a lot of my clients get hung up on when again when they come to me for coaching they're like I have this kind of failure to launch because I'm afraid to launch my website, it's not ready yet listen to all That your first website needs is a little bit about you. It'S an about page, a way to contact you and some type of services page a portfolio page. You know some type of example of what you can do a little bit of insight on what you're offering that's all you need to start.
You don't need complex sales funnels and forms that all these amazing like super, high-quality pictures. Listen all that stuff can come later down the line when you're ready, when you have more time and money to invest in your business start with the basics, so about contact and a little bit about what you do. Step number four is to establish your processes. So this is everything from your pricing.
You got to determine what type of salary you're looking for if you're looking for a day job, you have to determine your hourly end or package rate if you're a freelancer. All of that, so there will be a resource link down below for freelancers. Indeed, is that the one Glassdoor class Burnett indeed Glassdoor LinkedIn has a salary estimator to a think pay scale? Those are all good ones to search for what a social media manager would make in your area or a social media coordinator play around with different roles and titles, because if your entry-level you're probably going to start as like a marketing coordinator, social media coordinator, community manager, Something like that before you get into marketing manager or social media manager, so look at those salaries, so you can get an understanding of what to ask for and what to look for.
So pricing is a part of the processes, but you'll also want to figure out like your SOP or your standard operating procedure, especially if you are a freelancer or you want to be freelancer determine you know what the process is when you get a client. How are you going to onboard them? How are you getting get them acclimated to the tools and the software that you use and how are you going to set their strategy so do research on like social media strategies, social media, onboarding, client, onboarding stuff, like that, I do have a whole section on my Signature course, which is a paid course, but it's a pretty affordable investment if you're looking to do this long term for your career.
So I do have a whole section on that in there an onboarding your clients, so ya figure all that out figure out what social media management system you're going to use. I use a tool called lonely, but there's a ton of other ones out there HootSuite and sprout social Agora pulse, so so many and most of them, if not all, of them, offer some free trial or free version of their schedulers. So you definitely if you're going to be a social media manager have to have a scheduler.
You can't just post everything organically that'll work for one or two accounts, but after a while, you're going to need to have a nice content, calendar views a nice way to communicate back and forth with your clients all that kind of stuff invoicing contracts. Again, if you are going to be freelance, you need to figure all that stuff out too. I do think I have resources on that that I'll link down below, but if not real, the quick wave is my invoicing and Co is a great place to start when it comes to contracts and then number five is to find jobs and clients.
So again, this depends on whether or not you want to work in-house, whether you want to work with clients and it can change. You know, what's changed for me when I first started. I started my career in corporate and I knew that I wanted that experience and I'm really happy with the path that I took. I'm really glad that I did have corporate experience, but I ended up going on to run my own business now.
Will I run my own business forever? I don't know, I'm really happy doing it right now and don't see myself going back today this year next year, but who knows maybe ten years down the line, I might desire a full-time office job again, so we'll see you can go back and forth. You don't have to necessarily choose right now, but there are different, obviously different processes for each one. So for me I found my first job on the Internet as all the Millennials do.
Nowadays. My first, you know full-time marketing job, but I'm going to break it to you, honestly, I'm going to tell you the truth. Social media and marketing, in general, are pretty competitive right now and I did not get a social media management job straight out of college. I took something that I knew was going to get me those desirable skills and to get me to where I needed to be long term.
So I took an entry-level job at a chat lab, so it was basically like a call center, but people chatted in with you instead and it was that I think. It'S a fortune 100, maybe if not fortune 100 fortune 500. But it's like a really good company and it was a really good experience. I knew that it was going to help me with customer service, which is a huge aspect of social media management. I knew that it was going to help grow, like my writing, skills and spelling and all that stuff also huge, and I knew that it was in the sales and marketing department of that company and that I would have the option to overtime.
Move up into a more direct marketing role, or at least have that title in that department on my resume, because my official title sounded pretty cool, I'm not going to lie, but really what I was doing is chatting with people I mean or not. But I got promoted within like four or five months, so I had a senior level role and then pretty much after I was in that senior level role for a little bit.
I started getting people reaching out to me constantly to ask me to interview for social media jobs. Now, here's the other caveat with that. Again, I'm being brutally honest with you, I had a side hustle as well, so I had this YouTube blog. I did some writing work here and there on the side, and I also started a relationship with one of my longer-term clients doing their social media and influencer marketing strategy.
So I was doing that kind of moonlighting doing some freelance social media and those things all coupled together. You know the fortune 100 company, the freelance gig, the YouTube blog. All of that experience combines got me my first entry-level social media job, adding a different fortune. 500 companies, so I just want to be honest with you. You might not get a social media manager job like straight out of college, but all of that whole process of getting my first social media job only took me nine or 10 months.
I was only in that first role for like nine or ten months, so there's the T on that, and I found that job on. Indeed, if you want to look for clients, if you want to start your business word of mouth is huge. I encourage you to get off the internet because on the internet I find a lot of other people who want to do what you do, which is great, and it can be great for the community. That'S what this whole blog is all about, but it isn't necessarily the greatest place to find clients all the time so go where your clients are.
If they're going to conferences, if they're going to small business events in your city, your town, they're, going to events whatever it is print off some business cards, you can do it real cheap, real, easy on canvas and go to those events. Introduce yourself to share your portfolio with them start talking again. Linkedin is a great place to find people. You can also look on sites like indeed, and even LinkedIn.
You can use their search tools and search for contracts, temp, part-time jobs and a lot of times. Those will either turn into freelance gigs or you can talk to them and say: hey, I'm looking for a freelance opportunity. Can we do that? Instead, I know that a lot of people have loved hate relationships with freelance job boards as well, but I have had a lot of success on sites like up work up.
Work is actually where I got my first ever freelance client like I said that. Writing client that I was kind of doing as a side hustle. I found that an up work. So again, you might not find like your entire income on up work. Who knows maybe well, but for me it was supplementary and it was something to get my foot in the door and to get some portfolio work on the table so that I could eventually get a day job and higher ticket clients.
So that's it. Those are the five key steps to becoming a social media manager. Again, you can download my guide. It'S Bentley's, slash, SMM, starter kit and I'm going to have a ton, a ton of resources linked down in the description box to be sure to open that up by clicking, see more scrolling down and viewing some of the resources that I mentioned next week or next Episode, I'm going to be talking about the differences between freelance and full-time social media management, so I want to talk about what I liked about each.
What I don't like about each salary, you know how much I got paid at each thing like that. So definitely stay tuned for that, if you want to see that be sure to subscribe, hit the notification bells. So you know when I upload next and go ahead and leave a like on this article. If it's helpful for you to comment down below, and I will talk to you very soon, thanks for reading bye,
Check out the video below! It is about the guys behind the best-roasted pumpkin seeds on Amazon.com!
What was going on man? I really wish. I could talk the things done but, like I know, he’s reading, I don’t hello, hello, hello, hello, no, okay, we’re going to get into this article done in um T minutes 35 point 38 seconds because I’m going somewhere, no we’re going somewhere. I want to vlog it. So I guess get your makeup ready. Let’s go the vlog to you at the same time right I’m filming the get ready with me article.
I have 34 minutes and 53 seconds because I’m now I’m going to look fire today. So I just thought that let me film the process, so everyone gets a chance to see me be me yay, but I got my hair done yesterday. Yeah bye, lovely, not round lovely girl, 1 provided the hair and other one did not, but they were both. So lovely and she was just saying like what happens – you don’t post anymore, I used to read you all the time and it’s like.
Oh basically, I fell off you know, so I need to get back on my horse and I feel like YouTube or something that I really enjoyed because it’s like nobody interrupts me when I’m speaking, I really hate when I’m talking and someone interrupts me when I’m doing Something and someone interrupts me and I feel like with YouTube. I just get to talk. I get to talk, but I have a look, however long I want to yeah, you can’t interrupt me.
All you can do is try and disrupt me in the comment section. You know I mean, but I could just delete and block you, okay, so I’m using the blush per se sunscreen and SPF 50, plus I’m just going to apply that at the rock face and like my hands anywhere that I know it was going to be showing Today revealing my hair, not just yeah yeah yeah, basically, and I’m not show she say, like those exact words like you – fell off what she just had said like talk to me that, what’s going on you, don’t you don’t I post like that anymore yeah, okay, I’m Just going to do like a brief little like life update on what’s been going on, yeah, what’s been going on with me.
Basically, so I took a really long break. I tried to like get by. I don’t feel like the timings right for me. If that makes sense, I just felt like I was experiencing a lot of things all at once, which isn’t? Are you going to go? Sorry back? I was a dull team and I’m not sure I was at 13. I used a Charlotte Tilbury magic cream yeah. I was a Dalton basically, and I didn’t quite like know how to handle it, because I just like finished uni and like my relationships with people, are just like the wind Earling just evaporating just up out of thin air.
Then I sort of like isolated myself and, like a lot of my friends when I don’t feel like good or like I’m, not happy about something I’ll just disappear, I will isolate myself and just be one myself. I just thought I don’t know anyone kind of thing. So I still of isolating – and I didn’t really want to do a lot of things – stayed by myself – writing for myself by myself in these streets, I’m drinking that Bradley was with me, but yeah.
I needed time for me man, I needed time for me and I really wish I could talk to Kingston but, like I don’t know, he’s reading, I don’t so yeah but let’s just say I was going through in it and then I got to come back home. Obviously, because uni was done and Mike can merge with my family, like figuring out how to like live with people, when you knew I did studio to Studio to studio like I’ve, never lived with people, and it was worth every penny.
I know I spent a lot of money on accommodation, but it really was worth every penny for me because, like I just got to well, I would say maybe I should have like lived no because kitchen sharing utensils with people. I can’t even still struggling to this day like I’ve got a nutribullet, yeah yeah, absolutely hate. We don’t like it. When someone uses it and like they leave there, you know it. The cup is that the blender comes on the cup.
Is the the thing that that you um you add you do what you could you do you wait? You want you, you could do so you you do you? Can you you want. You want them to. Do you so much you could do anything. The container is what you drink out phone so like we’re not going to make my smoothie my blender, and it’s not there, it’s just like what is going on what is all of this waste and all right when you want to use a buffer.
I consider I considered my consider I consider myself to be a sorry. I considered myself to be fairly confident kind of babes. You know what I mean like confident. A lot of things happened during that time to come and test to like show me that I need to readjust a couple of things there and like yeah, readjust a couple of things, and might maybe this way that you were doing things wasn’t ideal. You know, I said you know I think so yeah I was humbled I’d say I was humbled with the capital.
Hmm. I was in some very life humbling, humbling, humbling situations, cuz yeah, Madden, fruit, man, nothing through it and Bradley can testify. You know I feel, like you know what your life in life something’s always going to be happening. You know what I mean, I’m like I just have to just keep going. You know, relax. I was a BITC finish. The last two words lives, um yeah. I was meant a little one as I like yeah, so I needed to go through certain experiences.
It still hurts me to this day. I’M just happy I’ve gone through it now, because if I was like out like no it’s a shattering, I really wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy that broke me perhaps just take time to think like I did, everyone was up. I couldn’t trust anyone and three months, even my mom. I thought she was in a play. I know it’s not the best thing to do but well scan. I do I mean I can speak to Radley, but at the same time I just feel like, obviously you know like your best friend your best friend by like how much can you offload onto one person, wait not to affect them.
You know I mean you know what and I’m thankful to have him in my life, because I just look at other people’s friends and I’m just like wow. This is who you have to speak to every day. That’S not sorry, but you know what this is you like sometimes, but let’s just say, I’m thankful where I’m like. I have someone there to like gee check me cuz. He does not, like you, tell me about myself, which is what is important anyway, anyway, anyway, anyway, anyway, anyway, anyway, today, today, it’s a what we’re doing today today today, today we’re going to an event yeah, I don’t um.
Do you know Laurel Messier? You don’t know how about like the company long last yeah yeah, I’m going to Lauren. I see an event today. I will be bringing brain, but the brain really guys you’re going to have to come on my vlog here, cuz bringing this DSLR out horrible, but yeah. What’S what’s new with me, what was I going to say right? So, let’s talk about the socials know what you know what I had a point back, I just actually missed it.
Your babies was confident confident, confident, like corn, GA, like Nyles confidence, do the situations that I was put in. Put myself in. I should take responsibility for my own actions, really just sucks the confidence out of me. So, like certain things that, like hack, my perception on everything just changed, as I said previously, and in particular my looks and in particular the way I would compare myself to people like the flow wouldn’t live like come out, compare ourselves people like that, you know what I mean I I just I just think I was bad plant I knew and like and no one could tell me.
No one could tell me that I wasn’t and if they did, I knew because it was a lack of love from your mom. That’S right, your chance to projects it onto me. Make me not love myself. You know my. I mean cuz like nomads, there’s a lack of love in that household. You live in, and you want to try and put it on me because anytime, someone does something like that. They, okay, I feel like human behavior, is summed up in my mind: you’ll either doing things because of a need for love or because you lack love.
You know I mean so bullies, bullying someone they either doing it, because they is a lack of love or a need for love and probably isn’t like love at home or people that just like laughter like be promiscuous. I know like that such such being sexually liberated is like a thing now you can do you want bomb loads, even man, I don’t mean no one seem at ease. If that happens, it happens in it bleh I don’t know, but it’s just not me.
I just feel like. Maybe this is touchy. Is it to you, but I don’t know just relax a bit man. It’S just a bit a bit like when people post their needs and stuff on you to our and call it like liberate him gosh. I didn’t do it then might as well just walk outside naked them for so liberating, but I’m yeah. So she was known that stuff. I feel like it’s a bit. It can be a bit soft Pony to in my eyes oh yeah, yeah yeah.
I just like a lot of things I like to do with lack of love or the need for love, but yeah like the way I looked at myself. Was it myself it wasn’t it wasn’t it like legit wasn’t it. I said what I said. She said WestEd cuz, I feel like okay, let me tell you, I feel like number one. The way I consume social media sometimes is not anyone like the comparison I’ll be doing this like it’s so quick. I’Ve already jumped to like at least 80 conclusions in one minute all evaluations in like one minute.
That’S too much and it’s too quick and that’s really not what like. I want for myself kind of thing but yeah the evaluations and I thought like sometimes people can be quite like sensitive but a lot of things, but just understanding, but I feel like then projecting your aunty. It’S actually not their problem. It’S like you need to make it your business to like work on what is white. You could do so much you sort of like telling people like you made me feel this way and it’s your fault in, like oh yeah, I just feel like just throw out yourself right.
What in you is making you feel like this person is responsible for that kind of feeling, because you kind of can’t control your responses. What are you making it this person’s problem? Sometimes I feel like that. I losing myself like I’ll get upset about something. Can I be like no, it’s actually not they’re not going to come and ruin my day or like meet me full attack away, where’s, my phone. Let me give you a quick demonstration on like how to handle the social minutes left your phone.
You hold it in your hand like that, and then you just put it down and walk away. That’S just legit how you handle it, especially weave, like trolls not going to lie sometimes yeah. So I’m going to say some things in this: like really really are lacking a lot of love. You’Ve lacked a lot of love in your life, but some of them do catch you by the throat, but at the same time, like it’s all character, building and training.
Yeah, I’m just saying is like don’t take things to heart. Man cuz, it’s just like social media, is deep. At the same time, it’s not. That is deep, but it’s not that deep to the point where you have nice deep still, but just understand a lot of people are fake, fake fake can be fake. I’Ve done it myself, they’ll say all this rubbish, but when it really comes down to it, nah baby nah bro. It’S leave like that.
You know I mean like that. You know I was just like you know how soldiers can be at the end of the day. They’Re they’re, the ones that need help and they’re done unless your job bit or you’re, like what you’ve told your self is today from this day forward, I’m an activist, my all means get angry. I mean show that passion be passionate, but if you’re just the everyday babes, you know you work a job coming on cookie clean me.
You do nothing. You know I’m saying like I just you’re doing you’re doing your teen babes save that energy for the side hustle. You have safer, please, I beg I beg of you absolutely beg of you. I understand, but most of the time me I’ll just be like oh wow that was safe and I’m not about my business. That’S why I I just I don’t. I don’t really like to get involved two months. I looking at three. God bless you.
I really hope you get the love you’re looking for, but I’m not going to entertain this today. Yeah yeah and this whole process is a work in process progress process. It’S a long for you know, I’m trying to say so long process. You know but yeah. You know, okay, since that option is coming about here. My life, my life, my life, my life, my life ever since meeting people wow that function, that function is really something something dangerous, because I really be forgetting like about this person actually exists.
You know I mean absolute madness that mute function, you use it abuse it use it specie use, be she be using the social media of like the brain. Obviously I understand it can make. You feel a little bit insecure by understand. Like there’s this choice, there’s twisting that there’s a little bit of choice power. You know I mean because who’s holding the phone who’s holding the phone. I am I’m holding the phone.
Guess what puts it if I put it down, I will no longer be looking there and at some point those feelings will subside and I just have to work through them and use it in a way. That’S come back. Come back compatible me. You know I’m saying, but sometimes like just cool off from the blaming it on other people and my taking responsibility for stuff. You know I mean I’d, say the people do that kind of stuff too.
Well that when they say sorry for something when you were, you knew what you were given more time when people say sorry it’s because they got caught in the act or sometimes actually is that Rockette was being mind ignorant like. I am sorry please, please unrealistic. Please accept my apology fully slaps like I’m not going to like that. I can get mad about certain things like you know how Beyonce’s bumblebees bumblebees The Beehive for beehive, like anyone that talks that rubbish about their and like their Bonnie.
The only I see like if they’re special cooling needs to be passionate about my feelings, but you don’t say: do it by all means, but just understand that the consequence is going to lie on you terms of like the stressors on your body. It’S going to be on you, that’s one thing that I will say about like with fighting fighting fighting fighting, why you seduced SJW in my my early days, and I want the I sat down.
I said ah every day, I’m out of breath, I’m annoyed I’m angry. I wan na fight everyone or it’d, be like what just sat down and chilled for a bit and just enjoy life chair journey and I was like wow sweet. Let’S keep doing so, I would say my break really taught me and to relax on a sentence. Relax on certain things were then job. Basically, now it’s to be active and to post a lot like that, and it’s just like balance.
That’S 1226. My cab is coming out to 50/50. You know, I should become the Charlotte, so be magic cream. Oh god, I’ve tried the Fenty setting spray. I like the way it diffuses the products out. I don’t like the ones that, like really like release, you know, I mean very aggressive in the desp’rate, the supremen’t. You know I mean very aggressive. I do not particularly want to get involved in any of the sort I’m really like here I feel like it gives me.
I don’t know if is meant to be mad, but when I use this I see more soft. I still love of the bronzer love me that told me. I wasn’t into that German drilling dance with that stuff. You know what I liked it and then I got to a point, as I actually drew in my heart, it’s drooling. On my end. It’S all that chap stuff I just like left it behind, because the place that I was in any lyric that would just remotely like sure I got any situate.
Wasn’T China here II wasn’t trying to hear it. I feel like um um they’re mentally Sunday’s is kind of questionable some days it’s a little questionable, but I cavern, I don’t even want to say the words I really don’t wan na say the words but I’m like I was just getting into him cuz. I just feel like he offered on a gold-plated diamond encrusted platter. A completely different a draw track is a dual track.
It’S going to make you feel a type of way. You know I mean but his voice on top of that, just really took it to a different kind of a different element in its own. Nothing compares nothing competes in my eyes. You can fight amongst yourself, where my eyes just nothing compared. I feel like sometimes American artists on, like UK sounding tracks or like afro beats music, doesn’t really sound right to me.
I don’t feel like it. It’S not much. You know I mean it’s not. It doesn’t flow to me. So I just don’t really like paying attention to her and it was the same with him as I like his music, like I’d, hear that welcome to the party song and I just used to grind Nike any time I buy from a player. So how you keep doing this guy, can you stop? I was in the cab going to here’s one day I was like. Let me just listen to it for myself and see how it is I’ll.
Let you know if it’s snaps or not. Obviously I put in my airports: I’ve lost one of my airports but she’s so annoying so like I’m going to use one, I don’t know that other one is anyway, so I played it now. Was it happily dual and I heard that I’m a foot get me lid. I said like I’m on it. Whoever this man is, I’m packing my bags, I’m ready to meet the room. I just kept slack up, saying, let me getting it yeah and my boyfriend where’s.
This coming from because last time I checked I’m getting late. What do you actually want me to do come on from there? Like? I just went, you know how I found out was in bed and I was on my Instagram and then, if you guys don’t know, I love me a bit, and sometimes I don’t know I don’t like what he’s doing with Kennedy or like green keys anywhere. Some other topic in itself: do you um? I was just scrolling they’re, not.
I saw DDG posted him and I was like. Why is he personally like what’s happened, and then I really love paragraph and then he’s like rest in peace. I said no, no! No! No! So he’s like he’s passed, they so rest in peace, really hope you shaking up there. Sometimes when I go up, I just feel really sad and weak. I didn’t know him like that, but you know how music is spiritual, music, really like touches you, the person doesn’t have to be there in the room present with you for them to have an impact on your life yeah and he had too much to do.
He had way too much to do absolutely, and I heard guys sometimes they can be a bit, but he seemed like a good guy. He was like wholesome he was inside his coat, I’m something like. I knew him but like just from what I’ve seen Mike he was into this culture. He wasn’t like afraid to. Let them know you shouldn’t find him or you know what I mean these other rappers, that I hear they’re just I don’t know, but it’s just one of a kind unique like just one of one and 20 year old, only 20 years old.
He was just a boy, he looked like a man, but a boy he’s okay, too, and his friends could rest in peace. Dough is like. I haven’t been able to cry cry like that, because I feel, like a BITC finish, the last two legs, because I just want his music so like. But if you like sugar tea, you know what I can’t explain it, but I just feel like I’ve been holding back my tears and it’s not coming out, and I don’t know what to do by I’ll, be telling my offspring about this as soon as they’re able To have a back-to-back dialogue, a back-to-back that we will be popping some smoke, we absolutely because this one yeah after Michael Wow – I don’t.
I can’t do it again and that’s what I don’t really like like liking celebrities too much like that. That makes sense. I don’t want to do out of like by force cuz if they go with. Like I don’t know, I get really attached and a little bit like obsessive and my life, just isn’t the same. She’S really been bothering me, I’m just really hope they catch the person. Give him a sentence anyway, this Marc Jacobs, lipstick lip gloss in pre, please pretty thing lotty for a year and then now it’s time for my hair.
As for my outfit yeah right, my thing is: I’m trying to stop spending funds money money on materialistic items, I’m trying to save like stuck up my claims, I’m fighting it out here. Please, like it out sorry about the lighting, but I’m trying to get out of here to my own lovely place, but I’m so that the dress code for today is pastel colors. I don’t really own anything sensibly pass to like that.
So I’m just going to wear white queen it’s kind of past all right! Also, I’m thinking yeah, I’m just going to do an updated foundation routine and upload it clear! Well, I’m going to do an updated foundation, skin routine and foundation routine. So you can see how I do not going to like, though I do feel a little bit better speaking about like pop smoke. You just know what you expecting. You hear that name and name these new records.
Could these new rappers could never these new rappers could never I’m right now and I listen to like well, these new rappers and stuff is just like. Oh, I thought like I’ll fight for him. Okay, you know what I understand my people going on like the shade room and do that kind of stuff not going to library like that the other day, but I was going for his comments and most display was like. Don’T you want to say he said something really like just I’d read all know if he, if he was allowed, you’d never left.
I have the energy film fame energy to have lots of those words. You know what I mean, but I actually went to. I went to go and reply and down because this is too much who this is not me. Absolutely not me from that. I was like yeah a bit tact because I was ready to fight fights on the net. I a stranger, never met this person in my life and I was ready to know I care, I don’t care, I mean how actually dare you, how dare you on the day on the day long words are trying to learn as still kind, and you want to Talk to all that green, giving it all that I’m in there now this one has really really really 2020s meant to be a clear vision you and that any places why yeah should I even tell you what happened all right? Should I tell you what happened? You know our eyes are really messed with the vibe in Italy.
I don’t feel like a good bet for a very long time. I survived, there’s just no flag. I was walking. Don’T ask me how I ended up in my Constantine good yeah. Why was I in between the two I was walking with my boyfriend, cuz, okay, the halter that I booked. It said, Hollywood Hills on it and when I got there I said this is nowhere near Hollywood. I looked on the map. It said I saw Compton and I already know from the movies the vibe I wan na go home tonight, she’s not going to smile to my health.
I’Ve never held myself so tired. I was like wow I need to go. I need to go. I need to go. I need to go. I need right now I get food yeah. Okay, I am a black Ghanian millimeter chocolate, darling British woman yeah me personally. I mean I’ve grown up in like Kurdish areas with areas, but I never part I never partook part ached part took us in any activities which were a league. I mean we all stolen, which I don’t know I stole, and I was okay, because it’s not a topic in itself.
I never part talking like a legal, so my favorite color was red. My favorite color was emphasis on was was red. As I had a red phone, my boyfriend, he had red shoes on so we’re walking to get food. We come out of the hotel entrance bus left and do another left and then we’re walking down the main road because as a restaurant at there and once get food to eat, so they’re walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking okay about 10 seconds.
The lanes on these American highways – I like six lanes long, they drive doggies, it’s a really nice car, but I don’t know I don’t know bit traumatized my business anyway. Doggies yeah, so they’re dry, face and they’re looking at us like this they’re driving and they looking like this. They just go and I just keep looking us and screwing us. Why do you send someone in my mind? I thinking why they staring son? What’S going on son, I was like babe, I he’s just me or do you feel like people keep staring off slight in that cars and he this I don’t know, I worry about him – sometimes he’s so oblivious to a lot of things.
So he was like nothing like. No, I don’t think you’re calm you could do with me. Sake keeps happening on one car, one gray one stops and does a u-turn and comes all the way around. Oh Indy, you came and some of those are you turn you’re. Just thinking that for directions they lost mommy might owe me a fly. Outfit M is looking good and they want to find out where you’re from you know. I mean America now when someone does u-turn.
I’M me past me. I know it’s not good. Any kind of a good sign for me so my hands already up in the air – I don’t know smack. I don’t want no smoke daddy smoke. I want pop smoke, but I want no smoke so I’ve stops. I’Ve stopped my boyfriend. It’S just slow down, walking the columns and rows of window down. There’S a man – and I say I’m not any kind of a man, I’m 40 years plus of age in a bouquet – and he says these words.
I don’t forget you’re, my man, you do the accent. Sorry, hey yo, my man where you from and it is mrs., is in the passenger seat. Dude. My boyfriend goes from London, I’m like Great Britain, my foot, my British British. Oh, you know this is a creek area right me and, like high-pressure Fergalicious gangster ish in the situation snow, I’m not built for that. I don’t want to be a good killed dating like a good guy.
I don’t I don’t like that. I don’t want that kind of stress in my life I want. I want a happy peaceful life. He said you know this is a krip area right a suit. I told you my heart, true what else I’m not going to add. I thought I was going to faint. I really thought I was going to faint. I thought what yeah you can’t be doing all that red over here then it’ll hold me sorry, they would have shot you by now.
I said, shot shots much alcohol sure I mean pew pew pew, my wavin shut. No, I need to go home today and he was like yeah lucky, I’m telling you the battery screw, and I think this is this is chosen as a partner this and you yourself. I mean I know, I know this Sunday’s Sundays, you where you are gagging for a pair of loops, and this is the life you’ve chosen. I need to get out of here immediately.
I offered him our gratitude. I grabbed on to my man. That’S a book. It means write what I wrote about my name that day I cancelled the hotel. We went we saved in the back of a completely different area, never again because we’re wearing shoes and notorious – and it just got me thinking this like I’m sure they don’t like being targeted and profound. You know what I mean, but you do it to yourself cause.
It’S like just because they’re black, you assume that you profile us because you’re black, I’m sure, like a white person, who’s wearing that red, they would like not rush by their full spot because you’re black, they just assumed we were from the area or not something. The area I mean who trying to like just start something kind of thing, and I just got me thinking that man was forties. Well, god bless him in his family, but he’s mad look a bit mad.
I was like you know. I really can’t no! No. I have to go home as soon as it came for the day for me to leave. I was up sticks again. My breakfast, I left my bag. I had a pit. Stop in Amsterdam, slept in like a hotel, comfortable bed had a shower got my plane. I left left leaving it behind me, god. I want to thank you for reading over asked that day, but Wow, and I want to thank mr. Old man Crick for coming up for tenant, because you know just imagine that, like you’re, really out there doing holiday, Phil boyfriend and then gang members I’ll come in To shake he wasn’t shaken, but meows sugar, sugar.
I couldn’t even eat the room, that’s something that I don’t play with. I don’t play with that. Gangsta spicy, as he said, lady I’m just I’m ready. I even off my time right now and then you realize American people. They were different life right, let’s get into her now so this her. I love it, but what I want to say I feel like we can all see it. I’M going up. So I’m going to have to wear it yeah. What I’m going to say, though, is the girl that did the dye job on this.
She didn’t take my time. The hair is lovely. There killed a little boy, the dye job, I’m going to have to work. My magic cuz, I used to dye hair a lot and it’s not yet, especially in pictures up, I’m not sure if you can see in the camera, but I’m probably just going to like I don’t know if I should like have it all slicked back. I feel like it’s too: do you see what I mean? Cuz cuz, you know six, one, three don’t hold a car doesn’t hold a car, but I love this hair.
Look! Okay! I’Ll! Leave all the hair details down below. I don’t know if you call it the hair, but I’m going to have to go in and color it again cuz. I need a deep here until after we’re looking through the footage and yeah. This is madness. Man. Let me let me switch my battery and I’ll. Come rock a buddhist co-, I see a fantasy

Hey! What’s going on, on this article, you will learn 5 awesome help steps to become a better social media marketer in 2020. Let us begin! The first step is lead generation by gathering data. Now, how do you gather data and what is data? What’s the data that you should be gathering, let me break this down for you, your objective in using social media.
If it’s to sell, you should not be chasing followers or likes, or impressions otherwise known as vanity metrics. What you need to be doing is capturing emails, addresses and phone numbers and there’s a couple of ways that you do this one. You can set up a landing page on any type of website. So someone goes to your website and then they have to input their information.
They get something in return, whether it’s an e-book, a white paper or an exclusive article. Whatever that exclusivity is you want to make sure that someone has to opt-in first and in return you’re getting something out of it? So what happens when you set up this landing page? Well, you can then remark it through Facebook Ads or by sending any email out to potential customers. Don’t lose sight of phone numbers.
Phone numbers now become valuable for remarketing through SMS or text message marketing, there’s a platform that I personally use called super phone. So when you collect phone numbers through super phone, you can rebroadcast out and guess what you’re now bypassing the social media superhighway and you’re able to get your message in front of people directly on their cell phone. But in order to do any form of remarketing, whether it’s through email addresses or phone numbers, you need to gather data, not followers.
#2, which is text message marketing
The platform that I recommend for text message marketing is super phone. There’s an interview that I did a couple of years ago with Ryan Leslie, founder of super phone. Those are really insightful, and ever since then, I started using super phone income nation with social media. So if you have an Instagram account, you’ll see there’s a button on Instagram for you to send a text directly, Now what happens when you send a text through the account. It will then send you a text back with a landing page form.
So you see where I’m going with this? Once you fill out that landing page form, your email address is sent to whom ever owns the form. Now all the information that You need, in order to follow up. Basically, think of social media and email and SMS marketing all being married together. There’s not just one platform that you use, but you need use all of these platforms in combination with social media being the feeder source to get you the data that you need.
#3, private messaging on whatsapp and slack
Let’S face it. Social media today is noisy! Your objective use social media in a business is that you have to find ways to break through that noise and stand out! So staying along the same lines of what I said previously with collecting data. Wether it’s an email address or phone number. Think about setting up a private group on slack or whatsapp for your superfans or you’re more connected fans, Hopefully you’re using some sort of social listening tool that you can easily identify who these fans and these supporters are. Once you’ve done that then You invite them over to your own private experience by doing this, meaning by creating a group on slack or on whatsapp you’re able to bypass all the noise, all the self-promotion, all the flexing. That’s occurring every single second of the day on Instagram Facebook, Linkedin, etc.
#4, Gather Intel or set up listening feeds.
Let me break this down, for you make it really easy, let’s say I’m a public speaker. So I get paid to speak at conferences.
How am I going to find out when a conference is looking for speakers? It’s really simple. I go to Twitter and I type in call for speakers now you can save that feed and you can go back to that feed in real time at any minute of the day and you can see who’s updating the feeds. So, in my case, as a speaker as soon as I see that there’s a new call for speakers tweet, I then go and I apply speak that conference.

That’s how I feel an entrepreneur is you’re, always ready for another fire. Whether it’s two o’clock in the morning or nine fifteen. You have to be ready! And I don’t struggle with that, because I’ve been practicing It my whole life, which is why I fear when people try to become entrepreneurs. Because it’s cool Now… I worried about that, because it’s very hard. Every single day I lose And unless you’re good at What you will not like. You have to have passion!
You got your perspective, happy, Don’t You want to be happy? Let’s be happy! First of all, I’m just Very flattered to be here, Thank you for check out what I am going to say!
Who I am
That don’t know who I am I was born in the Soviet union came to America when I was A three year old child, a very tough upbringing. We were very poor when we first came to America, I lived in a one studio apartment with seven of my family members, my parents, my dad, worked all the time, and so it was a very rough upbringing. Not a lot of entitlement. Didn’T have a lot of stuff. My natural state was To be an entrepreneur, Even at six, seven, years old. I was already shoveling snow, washing people’s cars, selling juice and lemonade for a buck or two.
It was always to do a hustle somewhere along the way. In New Jersey, sports cards became very big thing in America and that is how I started collecting them and by the time I was 13-14 years old, I was making $1 to $15 a weekend. As which you can imagine, feels like you’re a millionaire Eventually, my dad worked very hard and saved all his money and he bought a small dagger store in New Jersey, I was forced to work in that store. And that is really where I started my real career.
I fell in love with the idea of knowing that a lot of people in America collected daggers, and that was what kind of connected me to my family business. The part of the story that Gets interesting for this room is what happens next. Knowing that there’s A lot of entrepreneurs in here knowing there’s a bunch of small businesses a lot of small business agencies. What really enables me, the great flattering, nature of being in this world. In fact that my entire career was based on.
How do I build something with not a lot of money? You know we live in a world right now, where a lot of people. So if we can keep the lights on, that’d be amazing. I love that So for me. What’s interesting. I’m 43 about to be 44 next week and when I grew up the idea of raising capital. Was extremely foreign, one of the most interesting things being an American businessman when I travel nationally, internationally and other places in the world. Is everybody is so caught up with raising Money for their startup. This has become an entire Generation of hands in the air that think about raising capital and appeasing venture. Capitalists and investors not actually building a business and not having the focus there. And to me this is very interesting because it’s led to a lot Of very different behavior, For me, everything was always About how do you make money and that’s what you invest? Back into your business, not how do you raise capital When I started my deal, which is An advertising agency, I started it in a room.
Patience is a must!
Room of another company, because I had no money and I Wasn’T going to raise money for the business. I was just going to find my first client. Use those dollars and Just keep reinvesting It took longer, but longer was it strength. I think one of the most important words for me to communicate in this post today by far is patience. I promise you no matter what you’re doing. You must have drive!
First of all, everyone’s uncomfortably attractive, number two and more importantly. I think the reality is the thing that I spend most of my time on is trying to get people to understand that patience. It is a very important valuable of success! I believe the far majority of people in this world do not have a Great relationship with time, I am fascinated by people, who are stressed at the ages of 18 and 22 and 25 and 29, like they’re, running out of time.
The way that modern medicine and technology is going to be for another 80 years is unknown. It really gets me excited slash concerned when people want their Business to be huge next year. The quicker you want it. The more vulnerable you are. My style of communication is fast, but my business Actions are extremely slow and so what business actions that lead to slowness lead? To is a couple things One, the far majority of My career, I had no money, so I had to always look for places where you could get a lot more for less.
What I look for in the digital world. This world is organic reach! When I think about organic reach and when I think about organic attention. I day trade attention for me every day. I look at the data both in the analytics and in the culture conversations to try to figure out where should I market. I promise you one thing, my friends, no matter what You do in this audience, no matter what your ambition is.
The one thing that combines all of us, whether we’re starting tomorrow, whether we’re an employee, whether we have a huge company or haven’t even started. The one requirement for all of us is to have somebody’s attention. Before you can sell anything, you need somebody’s attention, Then what you say in the written word in audio or in article becomes the variable if you are successful.
The reason I follow attention – Is if there was nobody in here right now and I was giving this talk, I would have no potential To achieve what I want. At the same token, with All of you. What I talk about for the next and is my success. There are many of you here. That don’t know who I am. You’ll leave with an opinion. There’S many people who do know who I am and you’re either going to Like me, more or like me less. COMPLETELY predicated on the content that I put out. I spend my life in a very basic mind frame and if you look at the Politics of your country, my country, if you look at the businesses, it’s all one very simple game.
Do you understand where the People are and what they’re consuming and do you understand how To do the written words? The audio or the article to Put in those platforms? This is how it’s always been. Television, radio print Outdoor billboards, It’s always been the same game. Where is the attention? the eyes and the ears, and what is our capability? To put content in it.
Now: here’s where it gets different.
This thing is fucking crazy. This thing is unbelievably underestimated. We in this workd take this for granted. The power of a phone in Today’s world is remarkable: The fact that every one Of us are sitting here with the internet in our hands. Right now is actually remarkable For somebody like me, at 43 years old. When I was 28, I could not leave the office or my home and have the internet in my hand, when I was 30, you have to understand how big of a deal that is.
You have to understand how Quickly, this is all happening, whether it’s WhatsApp Or YouTube or Instagram, or tick-tock or Twitter. The fact that these platforms Sit on top of this device and they’re accessible right now. The fact that there are Tons of people right now with a phone reading this and then have the ability to post it. My friends from Brazil to New York to London to Shanghai, the human race has not quantified how substantial this shift.
Blame Game
Of the internet has become – And I tell you this and I start here today with this cause: Here’s the real honest truth about how the game of life and Definitely, businesses played The quickest way to be happy in life. Let alone business is To be 100 % accountable, The quickest way to be Unhappy is to blame, If you really understood what I am saying. The fact that how many people have a cell phone. Every single person fundamentally is not allowed to have an excuse, because the power of what’s in your hand, Of course, there’s family dynamics, Of course, there’s tragedies. Of course, there’s government involvements. Of course there’s a million reasons, but the reality is. We have never lived through a time where people at scale have so much opportunity. When I do the homework On the Brazilian market – and I see the cost for a Youtube. When I see an Instagram ad, and I see how low it is. When I see how much still unbelievable untapped potential on LinkedIn, Tic Tock and other platforms are for organic reach. Where you have to spend no money, none and you can get awareness.
The fact that podcasting is exploding in this country and the cost to start a Podcast is to just record it on your phone and upload it. The thing that I’ve become unbelievably fascinated by is, I know in this world, the single reason: whatever is not happening: For you is your ability to say no before you’ve tried. That to me is unbelievable. What’s unbelievable to me, Is it’s as simple as this? If you are capable of writing words, recording articles on your phone or recording your thoughts, In audio on your phone, your business can grow.
Your idea can be flourished. Your personal brand is an influencer. Your advertising shop, Trying to get more customers whatever you want to be. You want to be a YouTube celebrity. The reality is, the cost is zero. The mindset is the tricky part. 90% of this audience does not post as often as they should on these platforms because they worry about The judgment of their family or strangers – This is a very, very very fascinating dilemma: in our society there are people who are not posting.
I mean look how many people here follow my content. I’m very consistent: You can, I’m sure you’re in your head knowing every word I’m about to say, As I start a sentence, I’m incapable of talking about Something, I don’t believe that nuances are different. Obviously, Twitter doesn’t play in brazil the same way it does in the: U S right, Tic-Tock, moving quicker in Asia then the U S. LinkedIn’s acting a Little bit different in Brazil: What’s up Apps has higher growth in Brazil than it does in the U S: There’s nuance differences, but my friends: this is not about America or Brazil.
This is about human beings In America. In Brazil, in China, people worry about their parents’ opinion. In America, in Brazil, in China, people care about strangers. Making fun of them In the comments in America? In Brazil in China, the opportunity to build your business or your personal brand has never been easier,l. People see more people doing it and they think they’re too late. The real answer should are never too late.
Of the people in here do not have the patients and stomach to actually achieve it? They want it so fast. My friends, I did dagger library TV on Youtube in 2006 excuse me, 2007 to 2010 for 35 minutes A day five days a week, I would stay up and Work on Twitter for four or five hours, looking for People who were talking about wine and for three years every day very little happened for me Very little. People now start An Instagram account post for six weeks and give up because they’re not Getting enough followers We’ve become remarkably impatient, We’ve become remarkably Entitled, and so the reality is, is the following: tactically tactically, how many people Here are B2B companies, They have an agency servicing Clients or some of them major You’re in a B2B business, Raise your hands for everybody.
That raised your hand, You must You must do one of two things consistently starting tomorrow. Number one start a Podcast in your industry, You must start a podcast. Go on LinkedIn, go into your inbox and email 25 50 people and ask them to be guests on your show And number two. You must Attack LinkedIn more, I think people very much underestimate how much is happening. There in this market, I did the homework.
It’S there. It people don’t see it, because not that many people are doing it, which is the reason it’s most interesting. It’S so funny when I Speak at these events, people always fall into two groups Number one. They don’t want. To do it cause it’s new and they want to see other People do it before they do it Or number two other people are doing it, so they think they’re too late. So they didn’t want to do it.
People are split up in Two places of not doing We live in a world a world where everybody has a reason for no. I can’t do it because of this. I don’t have the money, I don’t have the team. My industry doesn’t want to do it. I can’t I can’t I can’t The fundamental difference. In the game, today is the people that say yes blindly versus the people that say no blindly, The only unique leverage You have in this room, is you yourself, There’s so much information? Now, you’re not coming up with any new idea, There’s nothing.
I say that is a new idea. People have been around too long, I’m not the first person To talk about kindness or gratitude or empathy, Or hard work or context, I’m really not I’m just doing it. My way in the way, my perspective, my words on my platform and for me is the real Conversation today to me is today going to be. The conference Is today going to be the time That you finally understand that it is time to put it out.
It is time to tell your Story at scale contextually across all platforms, recognizing that a lot of People did not raise their hand, and this may be the first time that a lot of you are seeing me, I’m just going to take one more step back. I believe that what the internet is doing is eliminating the middle. It’S eliminating the middle, the distribution. When you look at Uber or Amazon Or if you look at Netflix, what it’s really doing is Separating out the middle and it’s leaping it to one of two places: The product, the story, the service and your ability to tell that story.
I believe this is very important, because this is not even for The youngsters in this room – This is not the world we Necessarily grew up with A world where the entire Middle of distribution has been commoditized because the internet has become the middle and the focus on not just The quality of the product but, more importantly, the deep focus on the Ability to communicate has never become greater.
The ability to be a communicator in 2020 has now become Disproportionally more powerful than even the quality of your product, And that may be confusing and it’s a very interesting debate. But the reality is a product. Is a subjective product, One more time, B2B who does services raise it high? I just want to get a sense higher. All of you that just raised your hands. You know what I know. Sometimes you Think the product’s great, but your client thinks that shit Other times you kind of know.
That the product is shitty, but the client thinks it’s great. The work is subjective based on the queen or the King. On the other side who gets to this side your ability to be a Phenomenal communicator, How many people see it where And how is less subjective The content in it is subjective, but the results are There, through the leads, through the results that come through it. I believe today that, if You’Re in the business world that the ability to be a communicator, a content producer at The height of the scale for your product has become more important than any other variable.
I would rather be great at YouTube and podcasting and LinkedIn and Instagram Then be great at balancing my checkbook that I can hire an for. This skill is emerging. And accelerating at scale so here’s how this game Breaks down for me One, I think everybody here Has to take a step back and figure out what Kind of communicator are they individually, Even if you sit here today and do not believe it is your job within the organization to Communicate up eventually, especially at the age level, That everybody here is Eventually this skill set.
Will become important to you, whether it’s now later in your career, within your family dynamics and definitely over the next 2030 40 years as communication rises in Importance not declines. Thus, my great ask my great Ambition to fly down here, three flights to get here – And flying right back home, The reason for me to be here: Is very focused on the notion of. Can I get five people There’s a lot of people here? Can I get five people in here? To start tomorrow or Monday, If you want to take the weekend, Off to start making content, The world is very simple: The world is breaking Into a very simple game, ideas and making, do you have ideas? Can you make them, But it requires an incredible Sense of self awareness, I’m very passionate for Many people in this room who are introverted and who would be scared, To give this speech or who feel uncomfortable, In front of a camera to understand that, if you Are a remarkable writer there, an incredible world for you For those who are scared to Be in front of the camera, because they’re scared of how they look or they’re just uncomfortable That recording your ideas or what you’re about in Audio is an incredible time to be alive and there’s an Incredible world to you, It’s a matter of fact, even more interesting.
To me, if you’re somebody that likes to doodle to draw some of the most exciting things that I’m seeing in my content is when we’re doing cartoons On LinkedIn and Instagram, That might be the way that you communicate when you figure out how you communicate Written word, audio article. The next part, is definitely The most challenging, If you ask me why, over the last 10 years I have been given the Great fortune to be here, It’s very simple.
I spend almost all of my time and all of my content. Trying to bring value with no expectation in return. If you look at the Content that most people and companies and organizations put out if you look at it carefully, And you dissect it, it is wildly selfish, It is either a commercial in itself or its main objective is to Get you to fill out your email, your phone number, your information, so that I can sell to you.
Instead of bring you Value to build a brand, I wrote a book several years. Ago called jab, jab, jab right hook and the reason I wrote it was because I was reading People on social media really struggle with the Idea of bringing value – and I wanted to give them A scenario of understanding that, if you’re trying to Sell and throw a right hook all the time eventually The other person knows how to duck everybody.
How many people here Have done email marketing in their life Raise your hands Great, So for everybody, Who just raised your hands? I was doing email marketing in 1997 1998 and I had 90 % open Rates on my email today, If you’re in the 30s you’re a hero, means you have a tremendous list. And you’re doing a great job, The reason those lists Have gone from 90 to 30 is because I’m sure everybody Here knows where I’m going: We’ve ruined email because we’re spamming and selling on it at all times.
That’S what happens to every platform. That’S exactly what we’re Doing on social media Now the reason social Media is subtly declining and the reason the algorithms Always have to change. Is people do not have the Disciplined to not self promote People do not have the discipline to not try to sell on every post. The other problem is when People try to make pretend they’re giving value In disguise, underneath they’re actually trying To sell my friends, What’s scary, about the Way I go about business and what I believe I see what the businesses That are most winning in the world.
Is It’s super basic? Just nobody wants to do it. It almost be like if I was standing up here talking about health and wellness, my friends, if you want to get into better shape, here’s how you do it, Stop eating shit and workout every day. Thank you very much See you later, Brazil. That would be the whole talk. That is no different than How I see business today, Obviously you have to have A product and service, but the reality is very simply the formula is as basic as it is in fitness If you are not producing content and when I say content just to put this into Context for everybody next week is my birthday.
I’Ve had my team work for the last month, We’ve made a deck a couple hundred pages deck, We’re going to give it away for free. It shows you how to make 60 Something pieces of content in a day. The reality is the requirement. Of how much content that I’m? Looking for you To produce to achieve You know about numbers that look like 30, 40, 50. 60 Pieces of content a day Most of the businesses and people in here are putting out one piece of Content a day on a good day, maybe three a week, We, if you’re a personal brand, you’re killing it and Posting four things a day: There is nobody that is Achieving the volume, If you want to write down one word and stick it in your mirror, From this whole talk, the word is volume.
This is a volume warfare. When people hear volume, They hear quantity When they hear quantity. They don’t think that You could make quality, They think it’s a friction. Between quantity and quality, I believe that the world has grossly overvalued production quality and made that quality, not the story or the Context of the message, And so as we have spent The last 30 to 50 years putting production value On a pedestal as quality, we have put ourselves in a Position to not value context and the actual story: And in that is the rub and the opportunity, the sheer size of this country, the sheer amount of spend, even in the separation of wealth, The uncanny amount of attention on YouTube and Instagram in this Country leads this to be one of the most interesting Places in the world to be a marketer to be a marketer to be an influencer to be a startup.
However, when I spent because I gave a speech in st Pelo a couple of weeks ago so about three months ago, I started really doing homework. On what’s the sentiment, What are people saying in the comments? What’S the vibe, What’s remarkable in such a progressive and incredible country, is how Much similarities there are Believe it or not. What the US, which is With all that in place, there is still so much cynicism and pessimism to actually achieve it.
That is not a government Issue with your new president or ours, That is not a problem that You don’t have Silicon Valley, That is a problem that People would rather complain than put in the fucking work. That is a human problem That Is a global human problem If this was 1957 and it was my grandfather and all of your grandparents, I would have some empathy because it real money to Actually do what I’m saying, but in 2019 with this, I Struggle to deploy empathy for you not doing, which is What led me to not making this a game about your wallet? Many people think business Is a game of this business is not a game of this.
This is Right now is a game of this. This has come down to the simple Deep warfare in one’s head: What What is stopping people From actually making content – and I believe that it comes down to one simple word judgment – I believe that judgment Is crippling our society? I am fascinated and grateful Grateful like you would not Imagine for my mother building self esteem in me without Creating entitlement My self esteem allows when I leave here in a couple of hours, and I read the comments and I control copy it and Translate it from Portuguese to English, where one of you Say that I’m an asshole, I’m okay, I want to give the next talk.
I want to make the next piece of content My ability to deal with losing pushback Negativity. No Is my strength, my entire Model of content production, My entire thesis for this Talk only has one major flaw in that people are insecure. I spend my life putting Out content, 50 70 80 pieces a day with the great hope to Eliminate that insecurity to challenge you and Ask you what judgment why? Why are you willing to live? A life that ultimately ends with regret and resentment Because everybody who’s 90, at a hundred years old talks about the things they wish.
They did not the things they did And so for me, Brazil, very simply, I’m trying to challenge This room to understand the simplicity of the framework and the massive difficulty in the head and really lead to a couple tactics, For example, tactic number One one of the biggest things that I have seen work in People starting the process to produce content is To make a single article and tell the world their secret that they’ve been holding onto, If you really think about What stopping people it’s the darkness and Shadows, inside of them, by putting it out and taking Control of your secret, your dyslexia, your Terrible issue as a child, your relationship with X, your drinking problem, whatever it might be by You taking control of it by putting it out no longer.
Does anybody else, Have leveraged to expose it, It is a freedom play and I highly and listen if you really want to know forget about the five People that post tomorrow, If I can get one person one person in here to leave This conference tonight and make a article and tell the world the truth: That they’ve been holding onto this will be mission fucking accomplished. Thank you. Dad [ Crowd Clapping ].
I want to go into questions. In about five or 10 minutes, so let me speak. Let me See where the mikes are, but I’m going to line them up here and we’ll figure that out. But before I do, I want to spend a few More minutes on audio For a lot of people here they missed YouTube. They missed Instagram, I believe, there’s two places where you have a chance over The next couple of years to not miss it Number one you have to read: Ticktock very carefully: If tick top takes off Seriously in this market there will be an enormous Amount of opportunity, because the global penetration in Asia – the? U S, Europe – is exploding, What’s so amazing to live.
In a country of this size and this much opportunity, And you guys know this: is you can see these platforms? Exploding somewhere else and you can get a head start – And play it here outside of orchid, which became the player here, Every other platform Eventually makes its way here and became the dominant player, Please please do not underestimate what is happening on ticktock globally and where the potential Sits in this market, You should absolutely, If you’re at this conference, if you’re smart enough To be at this conference, you should be smart enough to go home and execute around the thesis.
Around the opportunities around the knowledge, One is tick-tock number two is voice. We are becoming much more of An audio consumption world by show of hands How many people here Now, listen to a podcast, Raise your hands, raise it high. I want everybody to look around. Look at this, Put it down for a second Those same people. How many of you were listening? To a podcast five years ago, Raise your hand, Look around Look at that growth.
Look at that growth! How many people here now when They read YouTube articles, sometimes just put the phone down and listen to it and don’t Even read the article Raise your hands. Look at us. Look at us D rock spends all this time. Making it look pretty new Fuckers, Just listened to it, Audio is becoming the growing Usage because we’re busy – and we want to do two things at once – Three things at once: four things at once, One of the biggest Opportunities in this room is understanding how big audio is and producing audio content.
Everybody wants to be a marketer, but most people in this Room are salespeople, It’s why they like Google, Google’s easy. It’S intent, Somebody types something In you know they want it, So you buy the ads and you convert That’s sales. I’M here to talk about. Branding and marketing The way real things are built, the way the biggest companies In the world are built, The biggest personalities Celebrities brands they’re built for branding And marketing, not sales Audio is no question The fastest growing Opportunity to build a brand that most people are not doing.
Please be the person in This room that goes back and actually starts a podcast. Please be the person here. Who actually starts recording their thoughts and just posting the article I mean you could Literally, take your phone hit memo record, put the phone down, it’s just a black screen and You can post a black screen with your words You can most of you won’t because you don’t think that’s quality, This subjective point.
Of view around quality is stopping the world from making. We must flip that on its head, Please be the person in This room that leaves here and starts making Thank you. [ Crowd, Clapping ]. I left a lot of time for Q and a because I really the theory is very simple. The details and the questions matter. So who’s got the mics. You’Ve got the mics, So you’ve got to run around Who’s. Got a question. Raise your hands! Yup! I’M going to translate to you: Okay, Hi Hi! I love you! Actually, my Family whole family loves you Thank you.
I just came from Canada, So I am an immigrant in Canada. I Zillow and my son listened To your podcast every day, He’s nine years old, Sorry about him! My daughter is 11 years old, So I ask him “: what do you Want to say to your GaryVee?”, He said eh say to him that I love him, Then he’s awesome And I’m sorry and you are so fun. I read it off you Thank you for that and bye I’m shaking because as an immigrant, as you know, I’m leaving Canada for 13 years now – and I suffer a lot – It was terrible Even for my children that was born there and if you’re there, just To eat Brazilian food at the school was very scary, And my daughter was Bullied because of that, So my question is: what can I, as a mum, do for my kids Sure? Thank you You’re welcome.
Thank you. Can I have a photo? Please? Yes, you can have a photo, So I think business and parenting have a lot of similarities. So when I hear those kinds of stories and I’m sure how many People here are parents, raise your hands So for all the hands that just went up. You know how challenging it is Like you can have common Sense everywhere else, but when it’s your kids it’s hard to maintain it, But I believe that self Esteem is the ultimate cure to everything And I think most parents go On defense, when their kids are hurting instead of off Bence, So when their kids are bullied, they want to go fight the school.
They want to go fight. The parent of the kid It’s defense for me as Somebody who was bullied because I was a Soviet Immigrant in America and my childhood, when the Soviet union was the enemy, there was plenty of shit. I mean. If you can. Zoom in I’ve got goosebumps. It was a very challenging time, but what my mom did was she went insular. It was authentic. It was me and her in my own Head hearing nothing else By the time I was in high school, I couldn’t hear anybody else.
It didn’t matter by the way, both pro and con. So for me, I think the thing you can Do is beat into their head about them, not about the People in Montreal or Toronto or Canada – It’s not about them. It’S about yourself inside your own head, your own self worth and And you have to pound it A lot of parents who are like, Oh so easy to say, but when their kids are making you’re right, but it’s no different than working out and eating healthy.
It’S no different than may content and put on all the platforms. The answer is simple: pounded into your kid’s head, their own self worth not the opinions of others, There’ll be a happy person or whole life. The problem is most parents, Aren’T acting that way, so it’s hard for them to give advice that they don’t even feel themselves, But that is the answer. You’Re welcome Questions. Yup. Thank you.
How are you Find you Very good Been following you for many years, So I am so happy to be Face to face with you. Thank you, I’m kind of nervous. Don’T worry, Okay, So I came all the way. From extremely little town in San Quan in Argentina called San Juan, So I mean I’ve been for a couple months or maybe years praying to figure out. If I have to leave my small town or I’m just a stay. Around there be patients, I wait for my business to be like big.
What kind of businesses that are A digital agency That so my question is, would you imagine Yourself as a business man as a size, as you are right now Stay in New Jersey for Example or in a small town I understand So the question for you and Everybody here is what’s big right, Because because this is Where people get caught, It’s so simple, Being in a small town in Argentina thinking, you have to go to San Paolo or you have to go to Benesede or you have to go to New York city.
It’S easy! It’S easy! You’Re, like that’s a Much bigger place to go The question: is it comes down to what makes you happy For me? What makes me Happy is to play the game, Not the money, not how big or small I just want to play. I’Ve always wanted to play I’ve readed, so many people Have a $ 1 million business in a small town in America or in the world, move to a bigger place, do 5 million and be very unhappy.
They were very happy at 1. Million in their small town, They went to a bigger town, They do 10 million and They’Re very unhappy, My friend, Brazil. It is time that we in the start making Happiness what we go after, Not more money! Thank you We have to. We have to right For me. When I hear bigger, I want you to have a bigger fucking smile on your pretty face, Not make 280,000 more in fucking net revenue.
You understand You have to decide that for yourself I don’t know You have to decide that for yourself, [ Crowd, Clapping, ], Hey Gary! How are you I’m good, I’m so good, I’m following you for almost three years, and I just want to see thank You for all of your content, You really change it by life. And would mean the world to have a picture with you. Can I Yes, you can. Thank you Right now. Right now.
I know. Oh, thank you Give the mic back. Oh, are you sure Thank you. You’Re welcome, [ Crowd, clapping ], all right get out of here. Let’S go Who’s next Hi Hi. First of all, I’m a huge fan. Thank you. You have taught me a lot about Perspective and gratitude and happiness, I’m so nervous, Don’t be So me and my sister we Are starting a B to B company and we are trying to sell A training and consulting for HR teams and litter teams – Okay – And I know we are not putting As many content as we should, The other, Why Why do you think Talk To me real We’re here, Why Well she lives in another town.
So it’s a little difficult for us to-! Well, you don’t both Have to be in the content: Yeah yeah, no, and but she Needs a lot of help for me because I know how to Do things and how to how to film articles and I’m teaching her Okay And she’s a little? She Doesn’T have a lot of confidence, She’s really good. She knows her craft Yeah. So what about writing Or what about audio? I feel like so many people.
That don’t have confidence are very scared of the camera, but can do much much better. Writing or recording audio Yeah. This is why I spent so Much time on it, in my talk, I don’t want people to Be like me, not listen, Not everybody is ridiculously Handsome and charismatic, you know what I mean, though I don’t want people to be like me, I want people to be like me, Where they found their voice in their medium, But for a lot of you in This room: that’s writing! If you’re, more introverted or insecure, a lot of writers are Come from that framework – or I really like audio so keep that in mind, but keep going And she’s doing cold calls.
And trying to reach companies in her region, But I’m just guessing what else can we do? Besides content that I Know who should be doing content get our first clients just to Do it for free Yeah, The biggest mistake small companies make? Is they don’t work for free And then now that I said This on the internet, so many people are going to leave comments and say that I’m an idiot and they hate me and nobody should work for free and blah blah blah.
That’S fine, But those are set by people that have never started a Company with no customers, That’s right, And so I mean I did it and I had already built a big business. But I went into a new World, where people thought what I did for the liquor, Store was not going to work, So I worked for free. I still do it if I think It’S the right strategy, So I think the biggest thing You should do is work for free because it gives you the referral base And by the way, when nobody’s hiring you.
That means your work is worth free. Can I have a selfie? You can yeah Okay Who’s next on 5 mins? Okay, How are you Go ahead? I can listen: Okay, Gary [, Foreign Language, ]. Thank you, [ Foreign Language, ], Sorry, my fucking life, [, Foreign language, ]. Don’T try to convince anybody. The number one mistake when You’Re selling something new that most people don’t understand is people spend too much Time trying to convince them instead of finding the person That already understands people make it a noble Mission instead of a business, My friend, I’ve been right and early for The last 20 years of my life, I have spent almost no time Trying to convince anybody, I sometimes have a one hour: Meeting with a company fly from New York to Chicago walk in sit down Start the presentation.
And ended after 10 minutes cause. I already know it’s over Every minute that you spend Trying to convince somebody who’s already know, is a minute That you’re not spending Trying to find somebody that will say yes, [ Foreign Language, ], Of course, because you’re not when you’re selling something new, they can’t see it or they don’t have reports in Their company to justify it Got it So if they don’t have the Report to justify your work, they’re scared.
They might agree with you, but The machine that they work in won’t allow them to say yes, So you just move on. Thank you, You’re welcome, Sign it Got it. Okay! Next, Hey Gary Hello. How are you First of all you’re awesome? My name is Luca and I read Our content since on 19 now I’m 22, so thank you. For being part of that, Thank you. I want you to ask you something that I believe is really important.
You are the first guy to Talk about making content, making really quality content, But I’m afraid that the internet is a place with very anxiety. I mean Instagram causes a lot of anxiety. Instagram doesn’t cause anything. People are anxious, Yes, But this is important Instagram there is no Instagram. There is a platform We post pictures and humans decide to see somebody having a nice time and they decide to be upset.
It’S important, though, Keep going Yeah. My question is: how can we we all here at these event, Can help these platforms are part of platforms being mindful Peep better By not putting out by Putting out real shit If everybody here didn’t Only put out photos when they’re, most dressed up, going to the most fancy place and showing everybody how Fucking amazing, their life is the world would be in a better place.
[ Crowd, Clapping ]. Thank you Not super complicated Dirac and I are going to end this talk, I’m about to do in five minutes. The fireside chat We’re Going to do a book signing We’re going to run to the airport, We’re going to take a private plane cause I have to get to San Palo cause. I want to get home for Family early tomorrow morning There will be no picture. Of me at a private plane, I’m not going to show that I’m fancy.
That’S not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about gratitude and kindness and empathy We’re in control. There’S no fucking Instagram monster. There’S no YouTube monster, We’re the monster. [ Crowd! Clapping ], I don’t know who got the mic: Okay, Yeah You’ll, be when producing Content, language matters: Yes, We are in a country that Doesn’T speak English? Yes, So said that, How can we break the language Barrier here to go global Well, you’re not going to Get Portuguese to go global? Yes, I mean, what’s the better best way to go in an English And Portuguese bilingual Do it both in I mean, but just in one one profile, but two profiles or You can do two profiles, I’m a big fan of sometimes doing article.
That is both in Portuguese And the English – I also want to remind you that this is a humongous, fucking country and winning here is just fine too. You know I mean if you want to win globally and you’re, so desperate To then you’re more than welcome to make English Yeah Because current Smathers I mean Rio, it’s like one and dollars like four. So it’s a big opportunity. I understand that I think it all comes back to The gentleman from Argentina You have to decide what’s right for you, If you want global, if you’re chasing more dollars, Than make English content? Okay, So, But it’s very important I say this: I think this is Every country outside of China and the? U S has an inferior complex because there’s more money elsewhere.
This is a huge fucking country, Okay And like huge So folks in Brazil. If that’s what you want to, but if you know I can promise you just focusing in Brazil what just Portuguese content Can make you plenty of money and happiness if you personally want to be on a bigger stage? English is something you have to consider. Okay. Thank you. You’Re welcome! Hey Gary good evening, Good evening. First of all, you Have to keep you at CBI, Lulu, You have to be Well you in love, you and Russia Yeah, So I’ll.
Just give You a very quick contest because I want to respect everyone’s time When I was four years old. My mom stabbed me for Ethan All the cucumbers we had for dad Stubbed you Yes, My hand. Yes, when I was six, she smashed My face against the wall until it bled from my nose and teeth Just was just because I was late one hour. Then she threw me at the graveyard that when it was late at night And honestly, all my life was Fear and sadness and sorrow, And so when I was 20 years old I said either I keep myself awake go So I decided I go and I left my mom and a few years later I Became an entrepreneur and I’m not the most successful one, but I’ve done pretty good for myself Quite happy Good And [ Crowd, clapping ].
Ah, but No that’s a story! That resonates with me It’s something I share very infrequently, but my grandmother who Passed away this year, and maybe that’s why I’m a Little bit more comfortable sharing it. She was very difficult to my father too in the Soviet Russia. So I have a lot of empathy for that story And I also know – and I know you know this cause – I see you made some Doll with my face on it So obviously you’re following.
I believe that adversity In youth is a very powerful advantage if you’re able to get out of it If you’re lucky enough to Be born with natural mindset or consume something that Helps you get out of it? Well, a hundred percent So I came along the way, but I did become an Entrepreneur out of vengeance and wanted to get even with My mom, my dad my everyone and I knew how unhealthy It was and then came along this American Russian Who speaks way too much and curses even more and Somehow I don’t know how I really don’t know, but But you changed me today.
I work for happiness. I work for hail, peanut, other people rather than closing the most deals, And I came here to Practice what you preach, which is jab, jab, jab right hook, So let’s start with the jabs. Please Then we go to the right hook. Please Thank you. First of all, Gary Vaynerchuk I’d like you to meet Gary Vaynerchuk. Also I’d like you to Meet Sasha Vaynerchuk, Very nice And to make it devastating Tamara, Vaynerchuk Very nice.

Now we just heavily a You. Send me an email, To Gary at VaynerMedia and we’ll get hooked up, Thank you You’re welcome. So Thank you. Now. Here’S my right code And regardless of what [ Crowd, clapping ], say yes or no. What I said earlier I’ll a believer.
I desperately need 20 Minutes FaceTime with you whenever you want Wherever you want, please, Okay, Two things: One jab jab jab right hook When you give give give and then ask It’s unbelievably important. To me that people understand that when you give with Something behind it: it’s not giving So the execution of That for the 20 minutes is not how I see the world. However, I just want To make sure everybody understands that, However, even with that said, and usually it’s not my favorite move When somebody gives me Something I didn’t ask for and then need something from me, which is the most valuable thing from me.
My actual time, even Though I don’t love that I just love you Thank you, I love. I will give you the 20 minutes. Thank you. Your welcome Email me we’ll get connected. I will I’m going to get one more in and then I’m going to call up the CEO and we’re going to have this far check Last one, please You got it. I love you. I love you back. Okay, Thank you. We own a canabiss growing Side, flora, 70 years We are rather than contact jab Jab jab jab all the time and the now the market is Opening for the big companies coming from United States, As you know, we can’t have Sponsored ads on Facebook, I’m aware or Instagram, So I’m asking you any advice Influencers because that’s The most scalable thing So giving the dollars to the influencer they post and sometimes it stays up.
Sometimes it doesn’t. But my number one thing I do a lot in the US with cannabis. With my Greenstreet company, You have to start a podcast. You have to control the media podcast and even text messaging, starting to ask people for Their cell phone numbers and putting out content directly to them And we work very hard and chat bot, also 100 %, but even the chat bot. If it’s in within the If it’s in WhatsApp you’re going to be vulnerable, You want to go direct phone numbers and you want to start a podcast company because there’s no platform in the middle, that’s in control of you Great! Thank you.
Your Welcome All right! Let’S do the fireside chat. Thank you. Everyone Gary! This is very good shit. So do a couple more, It’s all about them, so I Can grab my intervention Be right here, Who’s got the mics, No problem, I just don’t know where the mikes are Who’s got the mics Go ahead. Yep she’s got it Yup, that’s fine And then let’s and then let’s go into The way fucking back, I want to get some of those those peeps [, Tiago, ], Hello, Gary.
My name is Tiago me and my girlfriend We drove 380 miles just To see you and meet you, Thank you. I just want to thank you. For everything you did, I brought pro-Russian with me. Thank you. This book changed my life, I’m I work as a doctor, but I happened to be Passionate about technology, So I started my YouTube. Blog following our advice, my last year one half year ago, and it started to grow exponentially.
You told me about voice. I Made Alexa contacted blew up. My girlfriend was unhappy at her job and I said, read this book And then Steve captain Complaining about her job and I said quit You’re not Gary, says quit And she quit her job. And now she started her Own slow fashion, business, She’s happy as she ever been, and we want to thank you so much and ask if you could sign my book and take a picture with us, please, 100 %.
Thank you. 100 % bye Who’s got the mic right over there. Go ahead, Get her attention. She’S got the mic, Go ahead. Yeah I came from there because no one is looking For the people on the sides and not just eh, I Think is really important to talk about a business that Is really neat in Brazil, That is it’s schools, teaching, of course – and I am the first people, but the first person here That actually didn’t know you before.
Are this summit No problem? I wasn’t people didn’t Yeah. I wasn’t a big fan of you. I am now You’re a really smart person. I just wanted your Opinion on how you think that teaching is going to Grow in these platforms like YouTube internet in general, Do you think that actually We’Re going to have a boom, let’s say teaching is going To explode on the internet, Do you think that’s a Market in the future, I do and I think it’s already happened.
I think you and I have grown Up in the last hundred years of modern teaching, where education is being done through, Schools and leveling up until final university and Then go into the world. I believe that education, Is already happening If you just think about what that doctor was just saying literally the question before he readed my content. In education form, it educated him to the possibilities and then he went and executed it.
I think to your point and you can you can add, we can talk back and forth. I think people that are Educators in the current system are going to have to be very thoughtful that are they passionate About being a teacher in the current system, or they passionate about educating in the macro Yeah, that’s actually the Point I was trying to get yeah. I know there’s a lot of people already teaching other People on the internet, My the thing I was thinking is that my idea of future, though the thing I want to do in my future – is teaching people online Specific languages, You could do that now, But yeah I know, But do you my question is: do you think teaching is going to go? Entirely to the internet, do you think I think society is Going to go predominantly to the internet will still live in real life, but there’s a very significant Chance in 30, 40 50 years that all of us are Living in virtual reality and are spending a lot Of time in that world, No different than the 11 hours we spend inside our VAR phone now, Yes, I do Like ready player one The movie Yeah I listened to.
I think people in this room, including me, are very Naive of where technology is going already, We can see blockchain VR AR there’s so many more inventions. That will be invented before we die Technology. Always moves Technology always moves. So yes, I think so. Thank you. Okay, Who’s got the next question. I need the mic. Wait. We got you: Okay, [ Foreign language, ] Gary. How are you [ Foreign language, ] You’re, going to die? Yeah, I mean brother, My biggest hope for everybody.
Is to not have regret, besides health health, which you need. I want people to have happiness and as much happiness. And as little regret – And you know, you’re such a young man – We have so much time We have so much time. I just wished that people Had a better relationship with time, There’s so much more time, and so I’m glad that that hit You, because it’s very real Everything I do everything is knowing that it’s almost Impossible to be a human being 400 trillion to one That is the math, The odds of being a the Odds of being somebody in here right now is 400 trillion to one It’s impossible to be a human being, and yet everybody here is one, and I don’t want you to waste it.
Why [ Foreign language ]? Thank you. Thank you. God lets us go Yep. We can do the last one Yeah Hi All right Earlier. You gave us advice. For producing content – and I as them to they for Hobart to Prado for Microsoft, What re twirls do you have Every day that changes your life and I want what What brother, What What rituals re re is. Yes, that do do every day And it changes your life Every day, Yeah every day.
At some point I imagine my children or my parents or my siblings, somebody in My family dying every day, And that makes me happy, And I know that that might be confusing, but every day I practice reminding myself what is actually important to me And if today I went to Brazil And gave a great speech and many people found out about me and when I got back to My phone in an hour, one of my clients, gave us $ 5 Million more for Vayner media And one of my articles, Went viral on Instagram and got 5 million views And maybe even this Sunday, the jets win a fucking football game Right.
If all that happened, If all that happened, if God forbid one of the 20 People that I love the most got sick or died. I would not give a shit My only ritual every day. Is to make pretend somebody that I loved died, which makes the rest of my day very easy Amazing. Thank you. You’Re welcome, [ Crowd, clapping ] Do them in a very tough spot here. I’M cutting this great conversation, short Yeah, I’m also between you and your flight and between them and party with free beer.
So Free beer is fun. So unfortunately, you guys this conference is coming to an end. Did you like it? [ Crowd, cheering ]. So my only mission here is try To wrap up this conversation with some of the important Things that we discussed here, I think we all agreed that We had an amazing three days, the last three days. Those are my questions to you, I’m a big fan since the wine library days. I actually met you.
I’D, probably don’t remember that Mad at you at web 2.0 expo 2009. So that was a long time ago. In Portugal Yeah in San Francisco, So my first question is You want to buy the jets. Yes Most people here, Probably don’t know why, So what I want to know is: what’s the power of stating Out publicly a goal like that, And please explain why You went about it yet When I was five years. Old six years old, I moved to New Jersey.
I wasn’t speaking English. I had a very tough time in When I first came to America. I went outside and some boys were throwing in American football. I went over started playing and they said to me: what team do you like? I didn’t know They said you’re in New York. Jets fan, I okay, That was 1982 Every single Sunday, Since that day I have readed Every single play of the jets During that summer or a year later, all my friends had jets.
Jerseys We were poor, So asked my mom to buy a Jet shirt and she said no, but at night she knitted And made me a jet sweater That is my prize possession. I have it in a safety deposit box. When I buy the football team, I’m going to hang it As soon as you walk in, For me, the jets means America means happiness means the beginning of my life. When I started when I was in fifth grade, they asked us who do you Want to be when you grow up And everybody wrote: police man, astronaut all sorts of different stuff, and I wrote the owner of the New York jets and that was the first Time I said it publicly and I’ve said it basically To everybody, I’ve met since and then obviously over the Last 10 years as more people got to know me, it’s a part of my story.
It’S very important. It’S actually very similar To the nice gentleman from Argentina, It you have to be self aware. For me, entrepreneurship and building businesses has Always been my happiness Lemonade when I was five to Being right here with you today at 43, so for me wanting To buy the New York jets is very important because it’s a goal that allows me to play for a very long time and that Is what brings me happiness the process? As a matter of fact, I’ve already made a article Maybe five or six years ago that I have saved and it’s the article that I’m Going to share with the world The day I buy the New York jets and in the article I tell everybody, That today is a sad day, Not a happy day, because something that I’ve been chasing for a very long time has Come to a conclusion, And then I make a joke: About winning a Superbowl and something like that, But nonetheless it’s important for me not Because you shoot for the moon and you land in the mountains, It’s important to me because It represents a process.
I want everybody here to love. What they do in the process, not necessarily the stuff That comes along money, fame vacations clothes. I want them to love the Game, not the stuff For me having a big Goal lets me play longer, Got it Got it? Thank you. Thank you Last couple of questions So another thing that we Talked a lot about year. Is this tragal, especially For entrepreneurs, Now we have to deal with that.
You always talk about hustling. What keeps you up at night today Like cause you’re a successful guy still, but you still have some right Yeah, But but that’s What I signed up for, Like I, don’t understand When People are trying to aspire to be unbelievably happy. And unbelievably wealthy, it should be hard Like every day is hard. I landed here from these Three flights to get here and immediately I get wifi and there’s four texts from clients, Problem problem problem problem: It should be hard.
My struggles today are 100 % outside the framework of my business. For me, that’s my safe place and I accept that. There’S Going to be tough things As a matter of fact, this is funny. I didn’t do it on this trip, but sometimes when I fly and I have to fill out custom forms when it says occupation, I write for fire fighter. That’S how I feel an entrepreneur is you’re, always ready for another fire, whether it’s two o’clock in the morning or nine 30.
You have to be ready and I don’t struggle with that, because I’ve been Practicing it my whole life, which is why I fear, when people Try to become entrepreneurs, because it’s cool Now I worried about that, because it’s very hard and if you’re not used to losing, I lose every day Every single day I lose And unless you’re good at that you will not like entrepreneurship, And how do you know what’s Interesting There’s something interesting there.
You know where my mind Just when I apologize Well, my mind just went is it’s funny where I just Went as we’ve just finished that you were about to clap, I said I said to myself. I said it’s hard to lose. When you already lost I’m already pop committed to the game, I know what I signed up for. You can’t lose when you Already think you’re losing Everybody thinks entrepreneurship, I’m going to start the next fucking Uber and be a billionaire, No you’re, not And the second, you understand, That is when it gets good, And now we run multiple companies.
Most of them are very successful How to prioritize her life, how to balance stuff and only don’t allow Them the word balance, but juggling And being okay. The reason most people aren’t doing. What I do is I’m okay juggling and letting something Fall because I don’t If I was juggling right now, eggs and you were all impressed. And I dropped an egg and you all said I wouldn’t care It’s part of the game.
So for me it’s easy to do. The wine and the business and the sneakers and All the stuff I’m doing, because if something fails, People will tweet about it. People will write about It, but I won’t hear it What’s so important and the one Thing I wish for all of you and it was earlier to The parenting question, as you can imagine, especially if you don’t know me, and you just discovered me and you see how people Are talking about me, you could imagine how Easy it is to get high when people say that You’Re changing their life and all this unbelievable But it’s very funny for me.
I don’t when I hear the beautiful things that are said to me. I think about Sasha, I think about my parents. I think man they did a good job, I’m the product of them, I’m the product of Immigrants and struggling and good parents So When I hear nice things, I don’t get high, But That’S a very good thing because when people say The reverse, in my comments or negative things, I don’t get low When you become detached detached from either positive Or negative comments, you win The reason, so many of you struggle is you, like the compliments When people say you’re, pretty You, like the compliments When people say you’re smart, you like the compliments When you’re dressed good, he came up with a good idea.
You scored a goal. You made a couple of you like that So when, but now you get Used to the feedback, So then, when somebody says your shit, you believe that too, I don’t believe either I hear nothing. It’S super quiet appear. It’S super fucking quiet up here.
The beautiful thing about social media marketing is all you need is 4 clients to make more than the average American makes per year. All you need is 4 people to say yes to you and all of a sudden you’re making more than the average American. What is social media marketing?
Social Media Marketing
I want to go over a question that I get all the time. Do I need experience and do I need money to get started, creating a social media marketing agency? I don’t know anything about marketing Kevin. How can I make money creating an SMMA or a social media, marketing agency or a Facebook Ads agency or a digital marketing agency? It’S all the same thing and the answer to that question is you don’t need any experience whatsoever and you need literally zero dollars in your bank to get started creating a social media marketing agency. So before we actually get into how to find high ticket clients to actually pay you every single month to run their ads for them. We want to talk about what an actual SMMA or social media marketing agency actually is, and at the essence guys what an SMMA is basically, you run Facebook ads or Instagram ads or ads in general for any type of business. Today we’re going to focus on Facebook.
Facebook
Facebook ads are by far the most profitable type of advertisement on planet Earth, right! 2 billion monthly active users making Facebook and Instagram ads are absolutely crazily popular. Instagram was just recently evaluated at over 100 billion dollars. Just a small portion of Facebook. Companies are buying Instagram ads like crazy and they are absolutely explosive right now, so we’re going to be focusing on Facebook for the most part in this article, but social media marketing companies can also us Google Ads too.
They can also be SEO. It can be a lot of different things, but we’re going to focus on Facebook. So what an SMMA truly is. Is you find businesses right? You find local business that don’t actually specialize in marketing and you take care of the marketing for them, because what is one thing that all businesses need: new customers, right? All businesses want more new customers to actually continue to pay themselves money to be able to live their dream.
So the business need mor clients. This is where you come into the equation, is you actually do the marketing for these companies so that they can focus on their core products. Most local businesses, like restaurants, dentists, lawyers, insurance companies and a like. These different types of local businesses are in every major city. Focus on them, call them, email them, and like them on social media.
Dentists are good making your teeth Clean. Doctors are good at making you not sick right, but they are not specialists when it comes to actual digital marketing and as the world starts to change and become more and more digitally oriented, it becomes much more important to actually have an online presence. To have A Facebook account for your business right to appear in Google search to have an online presence so that people can find you on Yelp, correct.
Online Presence
Every single day that passes. It becomes more and more critical for businesses to have an online presence, and that definitely includes – and probably most importantly of which is paid advertising to put your brand name and your business in front of potential customers. So another common question that I get all the time is: okay: How much are these businesses going to actually pay me to handle their social media, they’re paid traffic and things like that?
What to Charge?
This is kind of like the lowest most conservative rate that you can. You expect they’re going to pay you a thousand dollars per month right. So if you get four yeses, like I said at the beginning of the article you’re making $ 4,000 a month or $ 48,000 a year, but the best part about an S Mme, is that there’s no traditional business expenses right, you don’t have it. You don’t have to have an office building, there’s no cost of goods sold.
There’S no inventory, there’s no overhead right! You just don’t have traditional expenses that most brick-and-mortar or you know most businesses in the world actually have everything that you actually need in Ford to create a social media marketing agency. You can have up here in your brain right and once you have the the knowledge and once you’re able to actually create ads and create traffic for these businesses and bring them targeted leads.
Then you become in hair, more valuable to the marketplace, and when that happens right all of a sudden, everything starts to change. One final question that I’m going to address really quick before we actually get into a little bit more content of actually how to find your plants and how to deliver results for them is Kevin. You know how am I going to be sure that I’m actually going to be able to get new clients for these businesses? How do I know that I’m actually going to be able to produce results and that’s a great question right, but the thing is most people.
Don’T know how to advertise on Facebook, so if you know even the basics right and the more you know the better and the more you can charge and that you know the more money you’re going to make. But even if you know the basics like custom audiences, look-alike audiences, how to install a pixel right, how to retarget that pixel traffic, which is all relatively basic knowledge? And if you don’t know what those things are then make sure you head over to my blog after you read this full article and check out my article on Facebook ad for 2019.
That article is over an hour long. It has over 1.1 million views and it’s going to teach you everything that you need to know from an introductory perspective to actually start your own social media marketing agency. So how do you actually find your first client who is going to pay you $ 1,000? A month well, one of the biggest problems is the chicken and the egg right to get new clients. Most people ask you for a testimonial of your past clients, but how do you actually get a chest? Ammonia, Liff? No one will allow you to be their first client.
So what I like to teach my students is to actually work for free, and I know that might sound strange to begin with, but that is the single best way to get your foot in the door for people to start paying you it’s a very low risk To hire on someone, even if they’re brand new, if you say hey, you know, my name is Kevin. My name is Kevin David. I just started a digital marketing company or a social media, marketing company or whatever you want to call it right.
It’S all the same thing: a facebook ad agency, all the same thing I just started. You know a brand new digital marketing company, I’d like to run your ads for one week for free and I’m going to get you some customers and all you have to do is cover the actual cost of the ads themself. You don’t have to pay me a cent for running your ads. No business in their right mind is going to turn you down right, especially if they don’t know anything about digital marketing.
So if you actually go into that business and say hey, I’m going to handle your digital marketing, I’m going to do it for free for a week, all you’re going to have to do is pay for your ad. Get you a bunch of new profitable clients right? Most businesses are going to say, okay and the beautiful thing guys is. If you know what you’re doing – and you actually start to deliver a few results, then that business is going to want to hire you on full time, because it’s the easiest decision in the world to hire someone who actually makes you more money than it costs to Have them work for you right? So if my fee is $ 1,000 a month and I’m making your business $ 2,000 a month, that’s a very, very simple decision, and so the best way to get your first testimonial, which is key because you can actually use that testimonial to get new clients is To work for free for your first few clients, you can get some experience right.
You don’t have to actually cover any of their ad costs themselves. They cover that you just work for free right, so all you’re doing is giving them your time for free and once you do that, you know one or two times and you can use those people as testimonials for all your future business and the most beautiful part About social media marketing is, if you know what you’re doing, which, of course you will.
If you know you follow my instructions as hundreds and hundreds of my students in my private group have done and you’re going to be able to deliver results and when you can deliver results to local businesses into small businesses. Every dentist and every doctor in the world knows like ten other doctors that they went to med school with and all those doctors also need social media marketing. They also need digital marketing for their businesses to get them new and profitable, paying customers, and so a lot of the other people who teach.
You know how to do SM MA, always say you know, go out there and start cold, calling all these businesses. I have never cold called a business in my entire life. I paid phone teams to actually cold call, but it’s never been as successful as just allowing my clients right in the doctors and the dentist and the lawyers and the insurance companies that I’m running traffic for introduce me through referrals to their other friends and to other Businesses, so what I say is: okay, doctor you’re, paying me $ 1,000 a month for every new paying customer that you bring me every other doctor, dentists, every other small business owner that you know, I’m going to give you five hundred dollars off your bill right and So I’m making $ 1,000 and I’m giving them a five hundred dollar discount, and I have a new client who’s going to bring me new referral.
So I thank you guys if you’re smart are starting to realize just how incredible of a business model. This really is, all you have to do is know how to actually find your first client and then know how to deliver results. So, let’s jump into my computer right now and I’m going to show you exactly how you can find your very first profitable client that you can use to go out and do your marketing for you and introduce you to all their small business owner friends so that People are going to be literally beating down your door to pay you a thousand dollars every single month.
Let’S jump into my computer right now and I’ll show you alright guys welcome into my screen we’re going to go over the three easiest, simplest fastest ways to actually find your very first client right, because a lot of us have family and friends and one of the Best ways to actually do it is, if you have a dentist, if you have a doctor that you have a relationship with that you’ve used for years right, ask them.
If they wouldn’t mind you doing their advertisements for free all you they all they have to do. Is pay for their own ads you’ll do all of the work for free and ninety-nine percent of the time. If you have a dentist or a doctor or an insurance agent, or you know, lawyers that you’ve worked with or any small businesses in your community, that you have a relationship with they’re, more than likely to say yes, especially if you actually know what you’re doing and You can deliver some results, which you know again after you’ve readed this full article, if you haven’t we’re going to have a completely free training on how to actually deliver results to these businesses right here down in the description after the article.
So this is the three easiest best strategies to actually do this. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to choose a random City dentist in Las Vegas, so we’re going to ignore the ads right here and we are actually going to go and open up all of these dentists right here. I usually ignore like Yelp, because it just makes it a little bit harder, but you can actually use Yelp. So what we’re looking at right here is.
This is just like a random. Oh actually, this is a directory. So let’s not use that one. So this is like a random dentist office in Las Vegas and what this is right here. This is a little chrome extension called Facebook pixel helper right, so you can just literally Google search Facebook pixel helper, and you can see it right here so you’re going to go in download this on Chrome once you’ve downloaded it.
It literally will tell you if any page that you visit on the web has a pixel right, so we can see that this actual website has a pixel. So this this company at least, has a basic idea. What they’re doing from a facebook advertising for spective right, because if they have the pixel that allows them to be able to retarget people on Facebook? And so it’s like it’s a very basic level of understanding.
So we’re going to close this one out because they have a Facebook pixel, so they’re, not the lowest hanging fruit right they’re, not the best potential possible actual client for us. So we’re going to close that one. We see that this that these people actually have multiple pixels right, so maybe they have an agency already working with them, so we’re going to ignore them too, but we see right here right that this this company.
Excuse me, this dentist does not have a pixel. If we, if we use the pic of Facebook pixel helper extension, it says no pixels found on LVS smiles right and so what we can do is we can take this phone number and we can call them or we can. You know look for their contact information down below right, here’s, their Facebook Instagram. We can message them on Instagram. We could give them a call right and we could say hey.
You know my name is Kevin David. I run a digital marketing company. I was browsing. Your website and I saw that you didn’t – have a pixel installed. You know I could probably you know, create a lot more profitable customers for you guys, and you know I’m just starting out my digital marketing company, so I’d be willing to do it completely for free. I wouldn’t charge you a single cent for my time and I would just bring you guys.
A bunch of you know brand new, profitable customers and most people in their right minds are going to say yes right. So when you actually call this number, though you’re probably going to get a secretary, so normally, what I like to do is I’ll say you know, is the is the actual resident dentist right like trying to talk to like a decision-maker rather than an actual secretary? Can just save you time, but a lot of times the secretary will pass on whatever you say to the actual owner of the business and most of the time they are going to be interested in what you have to say right.
So that is a very, very simple way to actually find your very first client. Another extremely simple way is: what’s called BNI, so what BNI is is Business Network international right, so I’m just going to use the same example BNI at Las Vegas. What this is, is it’s a it’s just, a massive networking organization for business owners. So if you have a social media marketing agency or you you know, you actually perform services for local businesses like running Facebook.
Ads like managing social media BNI is an amazing place to actually go and get new customers right, find new customers. You go to these events and you just introduce yourself everyone’s very friendly. Everyone’S literally there specifically to network right – and so all you have to do – is go and network and say hey, you know, I’ve run Facebook Ads. You don’t have to say that you’re the best Facebook advertiser in the world right but say that yeah, you know I started a digital marketing company recently and I’ve been you know, having a lot of good results for my clients.
If that’s true or just you know, all you have to say is I just recently started my social media marketing company. You know I’d be happy to set up an appointment to see if I could help your business right, and this is one of the fastest easiest ways that my students have been able to get a bunch of new clients, literally sometimes in a day. And if you get four people right, if you network and go for an hour, you could talk, you could easily talk to four people 15 minutes each and if all four of them say yes boom instantly you’re, making more than the average American is making for people To say yes using BNI and the third strategy that we’re going to talk about it’s just using Facebook right literally going on Facebook into the normal search bar and typing in dentist, Las Vegas right – and we went over here to pages.
And I would open up every single one of these pages and I would message them right. I would look and see if there’s anything that I think that they could do so. You know all of these people probably have websites. You know you can see dentist of north Las Vegas. We didn’t see this one right, so I would go into this website and I would see if they have a pixel right. They do. I could still call them if I wanted to, but I’ll go through.
Every single one of these, I would you know, send them a message I would. I would go and check out their website and I would literally send them a message. Saying: hey. You know. I run a digital marketing company. I run a social media marketing company. You know I’d be happy to run your ads completely for free just to show you that I can give you results. So it’s zero risk on your part, and I can just literally deliver completely free value and 99 % of businesses say yes right.
So those are three extremely extremely profitable actual ways to get your very first client right and doing it for free to get your first testimonial. Then, all of a sudden, you have testimonials and it’s much easier to get new client, because you have testimonials and all of a sudden, your current clients are actually introducing you to all of their other small business owner friends and all of a sudden, you have a Ton of new clients that are paying you $ 1,000 a month or more, it’s one of the beautiful parts about a social media marketing company is, you can charge a thousand dollars a month, maybe for the first four people that you work with then the fifth person You charge two thousand dollars a month right, you literally charge whatever you want to charge.
If you only want five clients – and maybe you charge $ 1,000 for the first person mm for the second three thousand for the third right – I’ve had clients that I was charging literally $ 20,000 a month to run their actual ads for and obviously these are larger Businesses – and it was after some experience, but the point is guys it’s supply and demand like any other business, and it’s a very beautiful thing that, as you start to get more clients, you literally become more valuable and your time becomes more valuable.
So you can either hire people to help. You run those ads or you can charge more for your time. So, as you guys can see, it’s literally such a good opportunity to create a social media marketing agency. Literally with those three introductory strategies you can get started. I want to show just a couple of my students: we’ve had such ridiculous, immediate success. This right here is John and he’s literally where’s, going to let listen to him for, like the next ten seconds he’s one of my favorite students.
In the first week he ever started trying to create an FM ma, write his social media marketing agency. He had tremendous success. Let’S listen! I am really quick. What’S up bitches just left a dentist office he’s got only one location but to presented the Facebook Ads. It’S just like Kevin’s got the course I had went out on her Facebook page and their website. I’Ve got some pictures so target. They love the idea.
I gave the value of the clicks funnel of $ 2,000, we’re just really quickly. You can talk about Jennifer, who made over eleven thousand dollars profit in three days, using what we teach inside of my private group. Guys I want to show just one more: this is Andrew. He literally very recently worked at a hotel, and you can see right here in the screenshot he’s getting absolutely tremendous results for his clients, Shopify store.
You can see him saying right here that he has eleven clients now and that is a minimum of a one thousand dollar payment every single month per client, so he’s making at the minimum eleven thousand dollars per month. So if you want to learn exactly how Andrew started to make eleven thousand dollars per month with zero experience and zero money to start, we are hosting a completely free training, and if you want to join that training, all you have to do is click to the Link in the description right here and we’re going to teach you some much more in-depth strategies on how to get started, running Facebook Ads for local businesses and getting paid very, very well to actually do exactly that.

Other countries don’t like this and so to the extent that they can move away from the dollar. We’Re going to replace. You know the dollar, when the dollar collapses: they’re not going to go to the euro they’re not going to go to the yen they’re, not going to go to the indy they’re going to go back to gold. If you love your country, you should have golden reserves.
So if you have a crisis of being intact, the paper money goes down in tremendous value. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, this is the varible bull here, and I got this aggressively average content for you today with an extremely important message to anyone holding XRP or any other crypto in general. Ladies and gentlemen, in my previous article I said that this article might just save you millions of dollars, and I can’t say it enough: you must have an offline hardware wallet.
You can purchase an offline hardware. Wallet off the ledger. Website got a ledger: NATO s, a ledger, blue, a ledger nano X, whatever the update is, ladies and gentlemen. The reason I’m pointing this out to you is because of this because of the potential of what they’re about to do from Kevin cage. This is such a lame excuse for a black out war. Internet pause. We talked about this coming people. Let’S read this narrative escalate quickly from CNN u.
S. Internet and wireless networks are coming under immense pressure to deliver reliable connectivity as schools and businesses shift day-to-day operations into homes because of the novel Black Swan event according to industry, analysis and government officials. Ladies and gentlemen, this was pre-planned. This is them getting ready to pause, turn off the Internet and God’s the more I see this narrative play out on the mainstream.
The more I believe things like this. It states they’re giving a timeline for one the gold standard to return on March 30th. Ladies and gentlemen, whether or not it returns on that date, I’d know that the gold standard is coming back. We just have to stay tuned and pay attention, but what’s very interesting about this post is that it says On February 12th we will start to see social media be significantly disrupted for other things, playing out globally and geopolitically.
All I’m saying is guys. I’Ve been seeing a lot of truths play out from these type of posts. All I’m asking you to do is pay attention. All I’m asking you to do is get your offline hardware wallets and let me refer you to another article. I made titled Trump and Lagarde, given april/may xrp adoption timeline and we are on schedule. Ladies and gentlemen, in that article I cover this article titled New York, regulators, send letters to coinbase ripple Square, requesting Black Swan preparedness plan, and this is the reason I’m going to cover it, because there is the potential for these exchanges to steal your crypto and blame.
It on a blackout blame it on a glitch, blame it on whatever they want to blame it on. You don’t believe me, let’s get into it. Ladies and gentlemen, first I’m going to read you this article and then I’m going to tell you a factual story that occurred during the 2017. Bull run, coinbase triple circle, Robin Hood, Gemini Genesis, global trading bid, pay and square are among 18 registered crypto related businesses that received a request from the New York State Department of Financial Services to submit their Black Swan Paradis plans in july 2019.
The regulator opened a new department focused on licensing and regulating crypto related businesses in the state of New York overseeing crypto services such as buying selling, storing sending and receiving digital assets on behalf of New York residents. According to the letter issued on Tuesday, the DFS is asking crypto firms under his jurisdiction to provide assurance relating to operational and financial risks.
Ladies and gentlemen, listen to this, it is critical that each regulated entity established plans to address how it will manage the effects of this Black Swan and assess disruptions and other risks to its services in operations. Firms must submit a response within 30 days of the notice outlining how they plan to manage the risk of disruption to their services and operations. Each company is expected to submit a detailed strategy describing how it will respond to the impact of this Black Swan in stages.
Ladies and gentlemen, so that the efforts can be appropriately scaled consistent would be effects of a particular stage of this Black Swan firms are also asked to map out an assessment of the potential increased risk of cyber attacks and fraud. The Department of Financial Services would underscore, in particular, the risk of virtual currency, business of increased instances of hacking, cybersecurity threats and similar events as bad actors attempt to take advantage of this black swan and a possible resulting need for heightened security measures such as enhanced triggers Fraudulent trading or withdraw behaviors.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me point this out to you right now. They are prepping to potentially clear out all these exchanges of your money of your crypto. Remember on CNN they’re, talking about a potential and Net Wireless and network black out there. They didn’t say that yet, of course they can’t, because then people go into a panic, but that’s where it’s leading and, ladies and gentlemen, and the same breath.
We have these crypto exchanges talking about hackings. Now, let me tell you this story about what coinbase actually did during the 2017 bull run when Bitcoin cash was born. If you had any Bitcoin on coinbase, you were supposed to have the equal amount of Bitcoin cash. However, what coinbase did they claimed that if you had Bitcoin on their exchange that they did not support the new big coin cash update, ladies and gentlemen, would that factually meant is that they stole that Bitcoin cash and were pretending to not have it? They were pretending to not give it to its clients, and the only reason they gave it back is because they were getting lawsuits from left and right of people who understood exactly what they were doing of people that understood that what they were doing was stealing so Eventually, about a month or two later, people got some Bitcoin cash into their accounts, but it wasn’t without a fight, and this is what I want to point out to you.
These exchanges are not your friends. These exchanges are in it for the money and if you have your money on these exchanges, you are quote-unquote susceptible to a hack from bad actors. Quote-On-Quote I’ve seen the way coinbase operates, and I do not trust them one bit. I don’t care if they’re regulatory compliant these people don’t want you to get rich. The only people that want you to get rich. Are you? Maybe your family and your friends that they aren’t spiteful.
That’S it get a ledger, get an offline Hardware wallet, because if a day comes when I saw RP is these astronomical values? And these exchanges happen to get hacked no one’s going to care. You will get left behind. You will have your money stolen and you could have prevented it by just paint about $ 100 for an offline Hardware wallet again and again, I’m going to keep saying it. Get an offline hardware wallet protect yourself for what’s to come, you see the most volatile time in human history before your very eyes, both financially and geopolitically, and it would be a shame if you were correctly positioned financially to profit exponentially and you’ve lost it, because you Got robbed because you didn’t take the necessary precautions.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is a variable boy here, thanks for tuning in prepare for them to shut off the internet temporarily, as well as social media, for what’s to come and I’ll be back tomorrow with another article. This was the beginning of the greatest transformation of wealth the world has ever fucking seen since World War. Two see, I know what he was going to do. I knew what he and I know what he’s going to do now and he hasn’t even got started now.
What are you, what are you going to tell your kids and your grandkids 25 years from now when they say gee dad AG grandpa? What were you doing other than having your thumb up your fucking ass during the greatest transformation of wealth and the history of the world? What were you fucking doing? Fuck all nothing, that’s what most of you will tell them, your grandchildren and your children. It’S never going to get any better than this kids.
This is the eyes I said on YouTube the eye of the perfect motherfucking store. This is it I never thought I’d live to see it again. This is going to make the 80s look like a nursery rhyme.

You know in the you know, we stand for this. People like us do stuff like this. So let’s talk about the anything, a logo and a brand alright, because companies spend way too much time on their logo, just like people on YouTube spend way too much time on their hair. I’M told they spend way too much time in there. If Nike owned opened a hotel, I think we would be able to guess pretty accurately what it would be like if Hyatt came out with sneakers we’d have no clue because Hyatt doesn’t have a brand.
They have a logo. If I swap the signs on a hotel at that price point, it couldn’t tell if you were to marry it. If you were a Hilton or the Hyatt, the hallway, the room – I don’t know where am I no brand, so what it means to have a brand is you’ve made a promise to people. They have expectations, it’s a shorthand. What should I expect the next time, and if that is distinct, you’ve earned something if it’s not distinct.
Let’S admit you make a commodity and you’re trying to charge just a little bit extra for peace of mind, the problem that Hyatt and Hilton and Mary it and the rest have his sort by price, because if I go online now to find a hotel, it’s really Simple sort by price: why would I pay $ 200 extra to go a block away? I don’t so. What’S the value of a brand, the value of a brand is how much extra am I paying above the substitute and if I’m not paying extra, you don’t have a brand.
This episode is brought to you by our friends at Mazda. I just drove the new mazda6 and it’s buttery smooth powerful with an optional turbocharged engine and more. I also elect the new cx-9. We shoot on location every week and it’s got plenty room for all of our gear. It definitely feels a premium kind of driving experience, but it’s the attention to detail that stands out for me. You can really tell the monsters designers have put their heart and souls into these vehicles.
You can check them out at Mazda comm, all right now, let’s get into our episode it’s that time again. It feels like. Every year we had a little you’re like Santa Claus, but with wisdom and insight once a year you show up from like Jimmy and we have a conversation. I was looking forward to this. I’M not going to ask you how you got this job this time, because after half a dozen times, I think I know the story, but I do want to know about this book I want to know.
I mean I’ve always thought of you as the godfather of marketing. You know if, if Peter Drucker is, you know, old-school not outdated, but just like you know he came before he’s the previous generation. I always think of Seth as the new generation kiss the ring and so help me understand. This seems to me to be like the quintessential book on marketing. Well, what’s your take, the thing is, I don’t do any consulting, because I don’t have the patience for it and what I love to do is find people I care about who are doing work that I’m proud of it gives them free advice.
How can they achieve their goals, bringing their work to people who need it and what happened was after the 50th time? I heard myself saying the same things again and again. I started this seminar, the marketing seminar, which lives online and it’s not inexpensive, but it’s really effective. It’S a hundred, a seminar with so far. Six thousand six hundred people have taken it and what happens inside it is.
I was reading. People interact with my lessons, but fifty lessons together and seeing how they interpreted them and reading them change and reading their work get better. So it occurred to me. I don’t know why I took so long. Oh, I know how to make books. Maybe I’ll turn this into a book for people who don’t necessarily want to commit the time to being part of a seminar and one thing led to another, and the book became the book that it is now which is yes, my version of if advertising had never Existed if David Ogilvy had never existed, if the old model, which was so magical, wasn’t available because I don’t think it is, if I could teach marketing to someone, what would I teach them so there’s nothing it.
I think the word Twitter might appear once in the whole book is not about social media. It is not about growth rating points or even conversion. It’S about work that matters for people who care so break it down for me kind of. What’S what’s the path you know, what is the method to the madness of laying out the chapters in the order that you did or does the order or not matter so the order we you have to begin by undoing the marketing of marketing.
You have to undo this idea that marketing is selfish. That marketing is a scam that marketing is this short-term interruption thing. So I spend a bunch of time on that. I wish I didn’t have to, but I do because I’m saying to you you’re a marketer and it’s not an insult, it’s a compliment, because what marketers do is we make change happen? Okay, which change for who? So the first third of the book is what marketers do is we decide who we are seeking to change who’s it for and what’s it for, and I’m amazed at how often people don’t even consider this? They think they’re making average stuff for average people and if they just yell at about it enough, then their Kickstarter will hit 19 million dollars well yeah every once in a while.
I Kickstarter needs to do that, but almost none of them do that the truly successful ones or the truly successful online stores are local bakeries or the person is trying to raise money for their charity are specific, they’re, not general, so the first part, and then I Get to this idea that culture defeats everything if you’ve got culture at your back. What you’re doing is easy and you’re trying to change the culture it’s difficult.
So what is culture? Culture? Is people like us? Do things like this? How do we break that into pieces? Who are the people like us? What are the things like this, then? I do a turn into something that some people think is distracting, but is, in fact, at the core of some of the big ideas here, which are human beings, make decisions based on status, not the status of I have a fancier car than you. That’S part of it, but the status of who eats lunch first and the status of who’s moving up and who is not moving up.
And what does that even mean to us that informs culture? And then I talk about affiliation versus dominance, because I see that more and more everywhere. I look ok so now that we’ve laid that out now we can get into some of the tactics, the tactics of. Are you a brand marketer or a direct marketer, because they’re fundamentally different things and most people were brand marketers before the internet, but the internet rings a bell and says if you’re a direct marketer? This is here for you and then I can.
We round hole circle, and I end with a bit of a rant about is the work we do evil. Are we responsible for it and if we are responsible for it? What are we doing here with this super powerful tool and this tool we each have is more powerful than the assembly line was in 1925, partly because we all have it. If you have a keyboard, you can touch the culture. What will you do with that keyboard? What we do with that camera because we’re not victims, we’re creators and I care very much about helping people, take responsibility for the change they seek to make and if it makes you a living, that’s fine.
It doesn’t make you a living, that’s a choice, but don’t do it because you’re making a living making a living because you’re doing it yeah well said, can we go back just a second and maybe delineate or clarify brand marketing versus direct marketing? I think I know what you’re saying to me. If I were to say it I would say brand marketing or advertising because to me one is a push button and the other one is a pull lever.
You know brand marketing being a pull or it’s pulling people in drawing them in with a tint. You know trying to build attention and Trust while advertising is more about getting a return on the investment and getting someone to jump through a hoop, but maybe in your own words yeah. I I’ve that’s legit, but I’d do it differently, yeah, because there are direct marketing ads and their brand ads. It’S not the advertising that differentiates them.
It’S one simple thing: you can’t measure a brand. You can measure direct. You must measure direct right. Lester Wunderman, who was a friend of mine, is a friend of mine. The elder statesman invented the term direct marketing was on the board of Yoyodyne. Direct Marketing is measured marketing. If you can measure it you’re going to act differently, because you can see what happened Tuesday and change what you do on Wednesday brand marketing is a Cheetos commercial brand marketing is the Airbnb logo.
They don’t you can’t test their Airbnb logo every day. It’S the logo. That’S part of the way you tell the story of who you are so a lot of individuals who don’t own the company like brand marketing cos, can’t get in trouble for a long time, because no one knows if it’s working and it’s this magic alchemy, the Absolut Vodka ads in the back of the New Yorker for all those years. They didn’t work, they didn’t work, they didn’t work, they didn’t work and then one day, you’re a genius right so know very few people make an Apple Superbowl commercial.
That changes everything generally. What happens is people show up put their brand in the world with or without an ad right Brad marketing is. Where did you put your store? Is it on the corner or in the middle of the block? You can’t measure that, because you can’t open two stores, one on the corner and one in the middle Direct Marketing, though, is the secret of Google and Facebook. Google gets all of its revenue, 100 % from people who are buying clicks, that they measure and the reason they make so much money.
Is they sell the clicks for a nickle and if work, they tell your competitors that they could buy it for six cents, and so an auction takes place. So you are making a little bit of money and Google’s making a lot, but you’re still ok with it, because it’s better than making zero. So as we switch to this world of Direct Marketing, we have to realize the metrics of brand marketing aren’t appropriate and vice versa.
What does that mean? It means if you’re, an individual and you’re counting your facebook likes or your YouTube views, you’re, making a big mistake because you’re doing direct marketing in that sense, you’re measuring it, but you’re measuring the wrong thing and that’s going to undermine your brand, because we all know That the best way to get a lot of clicks is to act like a porn site and left to its own devices.
If it does nothing but optimize sooner or later, direct marketing on the internet, races to the bottom, because you’re just trying to get a few clicks from a few people dumb enough to pay you something and my argument is: we need to race to the top. So we need to use Direct Marketing when we should and brand marketing the rest of the time yeah. I think it’s a really good point. You know when back-to-school timing hits and I hear those ads start – pinging hey.
You know you can get jeans that are usually 40 bucks for five bucks just for this week of time, I’m being hit with direct marketing and that’s ringing my bell: the trouble with direct marketing or advertising like that is you know it’s can be expensive and sometimes It misses the mark and we’re being trained to ignore it. Oh yeah yeah, I mean Lillian Vernon l.L.Bean. The reason you’ve heard of them Lands End because every time they spent 50 cents on stamps, they made a dollar 50 in profit.
So they get it to infinity and that’s the direct marketers dream get it right turn the dial, but when we think about the marketing that makes our culture better, it might have a little direct marketing piece to it, but mostly it’s a brand marketing exercise. It also kind of reminds me of The Tortoise and the hare right. Yeah brand marketing is the tortoises race. The hares is direct marketing or advertising.
That’S right, you know it can be quick and you know you could spend five million dollars on a Superbowl ad and read everyone in one day you know, but how long do we remember that or how’s that resonating? What’S the risk exactly? Can you weigh in on what seems to be the quintessential brand marketing play today as we talk about it, the Nike play and Colin Kaepernick okay? So there are a few things that need to be understood about Nike biggest one.
You are not a key. I am NOT Nike. Nike is a bit of a special case number two, the vast majority of Nikes future and its present is overseas sales, so they’re showing up and they’re saying we’re, not Puma we’re not a ddos. We are Nike. Well, you don’t. You can’t say that by pointing to your sneakers, because in a blind taste test, the sneakers are all the same right unless you’re an elite elite athlete it’s about something else.
Well, Colin Kaepernick is a signal, he’s a symbol. He stands for something and the other sneaker companies have been afraid to stand for what Colin Kaepernick stands for, so is it risky feeling to go into a divisive area of politics that I don’t think should be divisive but has become divisive? Of course it feels risky, but it was brilliant. It was brilliant because at the level Nike is playing now the number of ways that they can stand for something anything is very small, and here with just two words, they were able to say us him.
We stand for something when you talk about Nike, you are standing you’re talking about standing for something right, and the stock market has reflected that their market share has reflected that. It’S not easy for a brand to do something that singular. What’S interesting is if Seagram’s had done it, where mattress firm had done it or some other advertise, it wouldn’t worked because they didn’t have the DNA to match it.
It would have been stopped. This wasn’t a stunt that people who knew Nike said, of course it was very natural for them to do that. Yeah, you’re, right, they’ve they’ve been seeding the market from the beginning. You know from youth sports, although an eye and and they’ve also been you know the disrupter. If you want to use that buzzy word in their industry, trying to do stuff differently and shake-up yeah when you and I were kids sneakers cost eight dollars right.
So, as a citizen, I am thrilled that they’ve, given this brave individual, a platform to speak his mind as a marketer, a brand marketer. I look at that and say if this is what the people at Nike truly believe is. This is where they are going and it’s a non cynical act on their part. I have to applaud it because the kind of person that is decrying this psychographically isn’t their core audience. It’S not what they look like how old they are their income.
It’S what they believe and they tend to not be an early adopter of fashion, that person well Nike is selling to the early adopter of fashion by the time their shoes are at Payless they’re, not making any money at that end of the curve they make money. At the front of the curve and the front of the curve, the early adopters, there are people who are playing with new ideas in the culture they’re, not people who are trying to preserve old ideas in the culture.
Let’S talk about what could could go wrong or could have gone wrong, and maybe if we try this on another brand, you know what can other brands learn from this particular case study. You know in the you know, we stand for this. People like us, do stuff like this, so let’s talk about the anything, a logo and a brand alright, because companies spend way too much time on their logo. Just like people on YouTube spend way too much time on their hair.
I’M told they spend way too much time in there. If Nike owned opened a hotel, I think we would be able to guess pretty accurately what it would be like if Hyatt came out with sneakers we’d have no clue because Hyatt doesn’t have a brand. They have a logo if I swap the signs on a hotel at that price point, it couldn’t tell if you were to marry it to Hilton or the Hyatt, the hallway, the room. I don’t know where am I no brand, so what it means to have a brand is you’ve made a promise to people.
They have expectations, it’s a shorthand. What should I expect the next time, and if that is distinct, you’ve earned something if it’s not distinct. Let’S admit you make a commodity and you’re trying to charge just a little bit extra for peace of mind, the problem that Hyatt and Hilton and Mary it and the rest have his sort by price, because if I go online now to find a hotel, it’s really Simple sort by price: why would I pay two hundred dollars extra to go a block away? I don’t so.
What’S the value of a brand, the value of a brand is how much extra am I paying above the substitute and if I’m not paying extra, you don’t have a brand. So when we think about what brands ought to do to move forward, the most important thing is to not worry about your slogan. Your spokesperson, they’re wrapping. It’S to worry about the substance, work that matters for people who care find the people who care the smallest, viable group.
You can live with and figure out how to give them work that matters. So if we compare, if we’re stung the hotel thing, there are hotels. These new chains of mini boutique hotels that charge double what a Hayat might charge for less, but it’s only less by the Hyatt measure. It’S way more by the measure of someone who cares about with the people in the lobby look like who cares about how hip it feels to walk into the bar they’re investing not in oh, you get a room with three power outlets: they’re investing in throwing a Party in a place where you also can sleep while you’re on the road, those hotels have a brand and those hotels are some that some people pay extra for, but almost no one in the scheme of things yeah.
Can we talk a little bit about demographic versus psychographic yeah? I love that yeah. Okay, so they’re only used to be demographics. The only thing a marketer could pay attention. What kind of car do you drive? How old are you what’s your income, you could buy all of those things for mailing this company, but once the internet showed up particularly Google, but mostly Facebook, we could say this is for people who, like that this is for people who dream of that.
This is for people who believe this. Those are psychographics, it doesn’t matter what your skin color is. It doesn’t matter what your income is? It’S, what’s your narrative inside so going forward, the old-school marketer still talks about demographics, they’re wasting their time. What we need to understand is in every zip code. There are people of almost every psychographic perception and what we have to do is brand marketers to say it’s for you and it’s not for you.
I didn’t separate you because of who your parents were. I separated you because of what you believe and what you dream of. If you want to switch, what you dream and what you believe of it might be for you, so I guy walk by the Supreme store. I see these people are idiots good because it’s not for me it’s for them perfect. I like that. I like that, a lot, so you know search engines and social media websites are collecting data on us, whether we know it or not, whether we like it or not, but if so, if I’m a marketer and I’ve got and I’m trying to build a brand, then How do i, how do I find out who my audience is because I think sometimes we think it’s one audience exactly.
We might be completely missing the mark exactly okay. So, let’s start with the data collection thing every time I go to Amazon, they rearrange the whole store for me and every time I go to a regular bookstore, I am frustrated because they don’t it but like what is what are the cat books? I don’t like cats every time you know, I’m coming just take all the cat books out of the store. They don’t do that for me, Amazon does so when this is done properly.
People are happy, it’s being done because it’s being done for them not to them. When it’s done improperly it’s when you get a phone call from your credit card company – and they say we noticed – you’ve been going to a lot of singles bars and strip clubs. Here’S a coupon for free, venereal disease testing. You don’t want that phone call, because you didn’t ask for that engagement with them right, so it’s not about privacy, it’s about being surprised! Okay.
So now we go to serve some people I’ll begin by saying: I don’t think you have any business being a marketer unless you have empathy for the people you are seeking to serve. So what do I mean by empathy? I mean you, don’t know what I know you don’t want what I want. You don’t believe what I believe here I made this. It might be for you now. The best way to begin as an amateur marketer is to start with people who believe what you believe and want what you want great do you know who those people are? Can you imagine them start there? You will find some people in that segment because you made it for you right.
So if you love to surf and to be on social media than inventing the hero, camera, probably a good idea, because you knew what it’s like to be one of those people. But Sony should have invented to hear our camera and they didn’t. Because there wasn’t a professional market around the scene, who said I don’t surf? I don’t want to be on social media, but I could imagine what that would be like, and so we begin with that.
We begin by asserting what a group who believes a thing might want to do. How do you do that? Well, you can learn a lot by noticing. You can learn a lot by thing. Why is there a line at the supreme store? Why are people buying pokeballs right? Why are people doing this? Why are people doing that and those people who do that they’re also doing this, which has nothing to do with that, but they’re all doing it is because they’re all doing it or because there’s something those things have in common a feeling, and so what our job Is as marketers is to suss out that feeling make an assertion and then present it to those people not spend a lot of time in focus groups, because people don’t know what they want.
They just know what they dream. So is your recommendation. Then you know, let’s say I am the GM right and and I’m looking just to create this product. Would you recommend, then, seeking out someone who has expertise in that area and bringing them on the team is like a consultant or full-time hire, or should we all just eat, drink and breathe that subculture? You know for the next year and figure it out.
Like you know, when I was building Yoyodyne, we were hiring a lot of people, so we took out a full-page ad in The New York Times, which was super fun to do and 500 people showed up and we interviewed them in groups. It was really cool and we sat around the table. The groups of eight and the question I asked the group of eight is working together. There was no Google that no smart phones working together figure out how many gas stations there are in the United States and what would happen around that table every time two people would say I’ll, take notes.
Two people would say whatever anyone else suggested. No, that’s wrong. We don’t know the answer, two people would say not much of anything and then two people would lead this conversation. It’S really fascinating and you can guess who I hired, but every once in a while someone would say I don’t know, I don’t have a car and that was really frustrating to me. It wasn’t a question of how many guest agents have you seen in your life.
It was figure out how to be wrong on the way to being right how to make this series of assertions about where to go. So, when you think about the people who built, I don’t know, dropbox dropbox was built to solve a personal need, that’s great. As far as it goes, but if you want to be a professional marketer, you got to do it again for somebody else’s need and the way you do, that is by gaining the empathy to imagine what it is to be in their shoes.
Don’T have to be a woman to make pantyhose, you just have to be empathic, let’s shift gears and talk a little bit about mission driven companies. I mean it’s been a slow burn, so TOMS shoes and Warby Parker, and you know these are some of the standout kind of cliche case studies. We talk about all the time, but mission driven or Purpose Driven or maybe what you’re saying work that matters, maybe they’re.
One in the same, how do we, how do we get there and if we’re not thinking about this, should we and if we should, then how should we reframe or re configure what we’ve already got going? Well, I think the words matter, so I mean I’ve known you for about almost ten years now you are running a mission-driven organization. I know what your mission is and you have kept your mission through thick and thin.
That doesn’t mean you are giving shoes to kids in Rwanda. It means you seek to make change. You are changing group of people who do work with leverage you can visualize who those people are and the people who aren’t those people you’re not trying to change them. You have a mission, the medium could change. You could stop using article and switch to podcasting, but your mission would be consistent, and so I begin there, which is too often we get hung up by reverse engineering, our mission, we say I’m making money doing X.
So I will come up with a phrase that will, let me keep doing X. That’S not what you or I are talking about when I think about someone like Blake at TOMS, shoes Blake wanted to have a business that made money but also cared very much about the footprint that he was leaving behind. No pun intended with Tom’s. And so then. Yes, they can make coffee and they can make sunglasses and they can make the other things that they’ve tried to make, because it’s not about shoes.
It’S. How do I get an early adopter of fashionista? Who wants a story? She can tell her friends to be able to buy a product, that’s going to have a better positive impact on the world than the one she’s currently buying. That’S the mission back to psychographic exactly and you know so, Warby Parker. They don’t make a big deal of the fact that every time you pair by a pair of glasses, they give one away.
That’S not why they want you to buy a pair of glasses. What they’ve said is for the kind of person who has better taste than they have a bank account right, more desire to impress. Then they have cash. How do we use the Delta between what luxottica would charge for these glasses and what we would charge for these glasses to create convenience and a vibe of fitting in alright? Because it’s interesting, if you couple things I could say about war, be before war? Be open? Retail stores they didn’t know a what a retail store would look like.
That, would work for them and be where to put it. So what they did was they bought a school bus and they outfitted the school bus like a store and then they would go on social media and say the store will be here and they would park the bus in different places and any place. The bus did well, that’s where they knew a store would do well like a food truck right, but it was brewing because it wasn’t a food truck just to be a food truck.
It was intended to be a test of the store, direct marketing thinking there. A direct marketing company, but the other thing that’s interesting – is the cost to Warby to have 10 times as many glasses as they have would be zero to have every you know. They don’t sell these, I’m glad, because I’m the only one who has them, but they could sell these. Why don’t they? Because we’ll be saying, people like us, wear glasses like these, you don’t have that many choices, and so you can’t screw up.
There’S only 20 or 30 looks to look to choose from that’s exactly how many the slightly insecure fashion-forward glasses shopper wants to look at, and wore B’s bet is that they can sell that person a new pair of glasses every three to six months, whereas if it Was looks odd, okay, you can’t afford right. So again the psychographic is what’s baked in Warby. Isn’T busy running ads of people who live in foreign lands? Who don’t have glasses? That’S not their story.
That’S not the story that resonates with the people they seek to serve. Yeah and if I can add to that, I think that they use a user experience company exactly so it’s one of the smoothest user experiences. I’Ve ever had on the West, super-convenient down, respect yeah and it’s quick and and they have a Zappos Amazon. Like you know, customer service return policy, there’s lots of things going for them.
That’S awesome! How about the the white space I like to talk about the white space. You know things that we’re missing in marketing what our marketers missing. I mean if you’re a career, marketer you’ve done it all, and you know I’ve been on the client side. I you know, I worked for a big company, we had a big P & L and I did everything, radio and TV and billboards, and I took over the internet and spent gobs of money, but like what? What don’t? I know about right now that I’m missing well, I think the two biggest things are connected number one.
Your factor isn’t worth much anymore. It used to be worth everything, so you had to defend the factory you got to say this is what we know how to make. So this is what we sell, but now everything’s a click away, so you can sell anything you want. So don’t come at this as the customers wrong. I have this briefcase full of stuff. This is what I have to sell it’s. How can I solve this person’s problem? How can I market with them instead of at them, and the second thing is attention used to be cheap? I think about it.
The phrase CPM damn doesn’t stand for a million. It stands for a thousand, I’m not sure why cause per thousand we’re buying people’s lives. A thousand at a time for pocket change and since it’s so cheap, what the hell put a talking bear up. Do this interrupt this crazy Eddy, whatever it’s cheap, we’ll just try something else tomorrow, and now it’s not like all of a sudden. Now it’s not now. It’S really expensive, a thousand two fans, ten thousand true fans, it’s enough to build a whole company, a hundred thousand true fans, you’re, all it’s a homerun, 100 thousand, that’s it so the mindset of oh, I don’t have to just show up arrogantly saying I insist I Can show up and listen and assert and everyone is not.
The goal cannot be the goal someone. So how is then that helped you with your marketing blogs? You know you’ve got these products or services, whether it’s the LT MBA or the the marketing seminars that what we’re calling it? Yes, marque semenovka or your podcasts akimbo, or your ongoing blog or new books. So I got super lucky because I decided I didn’t want more. I’M looking over your shoulder and Tom Peters book is on you right over your shoulder and I talked to Tom.
He was my hero. I actually met him in 1983 when I was 23 years old and I was on stage he was coming on after we were doing our tech check. I was holding my three-year-old because he had come down with me for the weekend and at the time tom was doing between 90 and 105 speeches a year. I have a picture of him sleeping on a park bench in Siberia to the Siberian Airport. I said Tom, what? How did you like what and he said I used to be able to do a great Tom Peters invitation.
I can’t do it anymore. He said I had no choice. I have no choice. This is what I do so it’s like a shark. It’S like what he does and I looked at that and I said I don’t want more. I don’t want what Tom’s got. I don’t want the biggest blog. I don’t wan na have the number one best-selling book I am NOT interested in whatever I would have to do to get more. I am happy with enough to do it for the people who want me to do it with them, because I made that decision.
I was able to stumble on this idea of the smallest viable audience, so the all 10 be a which is one of the most successful program of its kind has had three thousand graduates. That’S all three thousand. So yes, it’s many times bigger than Stanford Business School. But no it’s not three hundred thousand fine! The marking seminar, my blog is read by. I guess: like a million people, six thousand I’ve taken the marketing seminar.
Could I have goosed it to sixty thousand? Of course I could, but that I wouldn’t be me, and so my posture has been don’t level up on staff. Don’T level up on spend put all of it into better, not more because if you can make better and afford to make better, because you have true fans, maybe they’ll tell their friends, and maybe you can do this work and doing this work is my privilege and So I’m totally fine.
If it’s not for you great, please don’t come. I have there’s no squeeze play, there’s no lowering the price for 12 hours metabolic. Why? I don’t need to do that, don’t want well and that’s how you’ve built your brand. So I guess the follow-up question to that is: how can we use what should be our guiding principles? You know: is it our personal value system as a quality of life? What can be the compass to know how to build our brand because you’ve, you said you got lucky, I mean I don’t know about that.
I mean it seems like it was pretty calculated and very strategic, but you went and I’ve gone down this path and I’m sure there’s been some twists and turns whatnot, but how can then the rest of us create the compass? What is our compass? Well, I think you got to tell yourself the truth and it’s so like author, so many authors have been to see me. I love authors. So what’s your goal, I want to make change happen.
So do you care about being in the New York Times bestseller list? Well, yeah I need to because then they’ll help me make change ever really really, because I could tell you how to be on the New York Times bestseller list, but you have to trade this this and this for it, and many of them do because they’re not Actually, keeping track of what got them started: they’re using other people’s metrics to do their work and that’s as bad as having a boss, it’s worse because now you’re in this cycle.
So we know how to double your the number of Twitter users. We know how to make sure that there’s more of this or more that and you justify, but you know I have to make my editor happy and I have to do this and it no you don’t what you need to do is get clear about who’s it. For and what’s it for and if you are clear, like Howard Schultz was clear, he said: I need America to drink, better coffee. Well, that’s your mission! Then! Yes, you need 19,000 Starbucks.
Yes, you need to serve things throughout the day in the night. Yes, you have to be ok with, you know, still quest off, because you can’t figure out how you get the supply chain right. That’S all comes with. I want all of America to drink, better coffee, but, on the other hand, there’s a guy who’s got. You know. Four coffee shops in New York City. He says I want to make better coffee period for people who want it.
He works with people. He cares about. His cashflow is positive. He does the craft he wants to do, and it’s not someone else’s agenda because he’s not a public company and doesn’t want to be so both are available but be consistent and the mistake that happens is someone has four little coffee shops. They say that that’s what they want to do, but then they keep compromising so they can have 18 coffee shops that are now pretty sucky.
I don’t know why you did that well, zooming out, then I mean it sounds like, and I love this idea of business. Being so personal, it sounds like to be the quintessential brand marketer. It really has to start right here has to start with us. We have to be clear about what we really want. So Phil Knight is saying you know we want to be the company, the brand that stands up for people that is on the right set of history.
That does the right thing, so I’m sure he knows profits and I’m sure he did some math. I’M sure it’s not all altruistic, but those are the types of like value based decisions, we’re making right the quality of life. How much time we want to spend at home versus traveling a hundred days out of the year yeah. Well, whatever job you do, whether you’re a brand marketer or an accountant. I hope at some point you said what’s in here.
I don’t think we need to be altruistic, but I think we need to be some true, istic meaning. We are true to some people for some people. They can’t believe how great this thing we made is for some people they would cross the street to get it, and if I go down the list of modern brands, that is true all of them. So Procter & Gamble Unilever brands, not so much because they own shelf space and they own acres of TV, the TV’s getting too expensive.
They could probably hold on in the shelf space for a while to come. But that’s not most of us. Most of us are not seeing they’re saying crystal like crystal like Crystal Light, because the fact is there aren’t that many people who are bound up in the story of Crystal Light. But if you wanted to build an important new brand, if you want to grow the brand you’ve got, you can’t use the old technique because we know it doesn’t work anymore.
And so what can you do to make a bigger impact? Which is you can be some twisted? You can be obsessed with some people and make them so happy to hear from you that they open your email, that they call you on the phone that they wait. In line to see you at the booth that they tell their friends and tell their friends and tell their friends that begins with someone caring enough to have the grit to say we’re going to make good stuff, not lousy stuff.
So how is it being back and sort of traditional publishing? You know back to sort of blocking and tackling making books like you’ve done in the past yeah. So of course I’m a hypocrite. I have repeatedly said it’s. My last book. I’Ve repeatedly said the publishing industry is so crippled by the shift that I have to respect the people in it but politely decline. But here I am back with my friends at penguin portfolio.
The first reason is because, as the seminar developed, I realized, I needed a book and I know how to publish my own books. But when I thought about the mechanics of that, I realized I needed a team of people who would do it. Justice – and these were the best people, but I couldn’t help myself so the other thing that we did, which we haven’t announced at all, which is we’re going to talk about after the book comes out, is I actually made 19 extra covers for the book.
Okay and here’s, a couple of them can’t show them to you in too much detail because it’s sort of a secret, but what we’re going to do like my creative director and I did them all ourselves. All 18 of these covers so there’s like an alternate cover like in a magazine like you write Sports Illustrated, does exactly several different athletes right same magazine, different cover, so what’s going to happen is if you buy an 8 pack of the book from 800, CEO Reed, Who I’m working with they’re going to put in the 8 pack? Eight of these covers? You don’t know which 8 you’re going to get collect and trade them kind of thing, plus like 800 or $ 1000 worth of free slots or discounted slot discounted slots.
In the articles from the seminar, so you get all this juicy stuff for the cost of the 8 books, and I got to tell you after the book was done: yeah because you could there’s lead times and publishing. So now you, like you, have all this energy, but the books done so it was months of work to make the envelope and the custom covers, and the flip side of the posters and I loved that I was just such joy because I’m only making 2,000 of Them – and I knew that only 2,000 people are going to touch this, but that made it even better because it was like okay, we get to roll up our sleeves and be craftsmen to celebrate this other thing.
We’Re doing so. We didn’t announce it in advance because we don’t want people to just wait for it, but it’s going to come out right after the book launches. That’S so cool you are the master of creating scarcity. You! You love this idea right yeah. I love it because it creates value yeah, it does. You know limited time or there’s I’m only making 10 of these or yeah it does right. So part of it is tension, which is what we know is before anyone says.
Yes, they get like this in any field you have to as a marketer willingly dance with that tension, because you’re creating it right and then on top of it scarcity creates value, but what it does for me is the Creator. Is it lets me off the hook from infinity and infinity has never been my friend, because if you are making YouTube articles and you get a million visits, you say well, why didn’t I get two million? Why didn’t I get four million and what I get satisfaction out of the same sorry so that cuz now I know I couldn’t have gotten any more cuz.
I don’t have anymore. It makes me emotionally more connected to the work than having to say this is for everyone and I need six billion. Somehow. That makes a lot of sense. Can I get a little bit personal too and just ask you, you know. I know you always say when I ask you so what’s next, you know next is what I’m working on right now. This is what I’m most interested in. You know. I’Ve been there and I’ve done that.
That’S fine but like at some point share a little bit of the Seth dream with us. Like are you I mean we’re out here, sort of you know, upstate, you know up up the traffic halfway to sing-sing. Prison yeah is the goal to like retire in Italy. At some point or like you’re going to have this, you know Seth part two and you’re going to be some gourmet chef or create a chocolate factory like what are some of the.
What are some of the dreams and aspirations that you’ve got. You know I won the dream and aspiration Lottery a long time ago. So, if I wanted to live in Italy, I could live in Italy and the internet makes it even easier. I almost started top elite company. I was four days away from it. When I tasted rogue chocolate, I met Sean asked a nosy. I said I can’t make chocolate better than rogue and I can’t be a better person than Sean.
So all it would be as a marketing project and I’m already doing marketing project. Let these guys sell chocolate every once in a while. I play with the idea of starting a significant entity, a software company, or something like that, because I see the niches in the market, but more and more I’ll just call somebody up some CEO of the public companies. They used to go through this, so I don’t have to have that conversation today.
I hope that works, but the essence of it is this: for someone who’s lucky enough to be able to do almost anything he wants. This is what I want to do. I want to be a teacher. I want to be somebody who helps turn on lights and helps people, not everybody. Some people see things that they can’t unsee and it’s always in the service. How do I make this place? I’D rather live with my kids than it was yesterday, because if we could all figure out how to do that, that positive cycle, I think that’s what makes culture matter so yeah tomorrow morning.
I will wake up and I’ve done what I’m supposed to do. For my publisher, I’m off the hook and I haven’t written anything new and I’m not building a new course right now. I’Ve got the courses we run because they work and I want to run them again and I’ve got the team of people in 40 countries who worked with me on various projects and I trust them, and I love them, and I want to do it again, but It would be very hard for me to stop doing this right now.
I gave up the airplanes has been hard, but I’ve mostly done it now, I’m down to one a month, but other than that everything else about what I do is a privilege. Our true privilege, you
So, if you’re interested in learning the Latest and greatest marketing strategies, tools, tips, tricks and tactics. You are reading the right blog post. Alright, let’s talk marketing something I love to do. As I fell in love with marketing years ago. I first got interested in figuring out why people buy and act the way they do and later how to influence and persuade. Essentially affect human behavior, Because whether you have a business or not marketing happens pretty much every day.
Anytime you try to convince friends or family to see a certain movie or eat at this restaurant or not that. Basically, try to convince them to do anything. Marketing is happening Also. Marketing is really important to understand because you are constantly being marketed to by everyone from everywhere. From something as simple as someone trying to sell you a pair of shoes. Or something a lot, bigger like buying a new house or moving across the country or even changing careers. All of this requires and uses marketing.
So with all that said, let’s Dive into it. But first, let’s cover what marketing is not so once we’ve got that Clear we can cover exactly what it is. Now, I know when I first got involved with marketing my understanding was pretty limited. I didn’t really have a clear picture of exactly what marketing was. So, I also kind of fell prey to the notion that marketing was advertising. Well in reality, marketing isn’t advertising advertising is marketing.
Let me explain. Basically, marketing is a Major business function. That’S made up of a bunch of other parts, one of which Of course is advertising, but there’s also a ton. Others like PR market Research, social media content, marketing search engine marketing or search engine Optimization pricing and pricing, psychology, copywriting and one of my Personal favorites direct response or direct response, marketing and quite a Few more So saying that marketing is just advertising and kind of like saying That finance is just taxes or HR is just hiring people or legal is just not Getting sued Sure these are all important, but there Just one piece of the entire puzzle: This is why, if you’re just getting started in Marketing can seem pretty overwhelming, which is why my suggestion is to find an Area that you find interesting, fascinating, like say, social, media or Content marketing start there really get some roots and branch out later.
Alright, So now that we’ve got that covered, what exactly is marketing Well as I’ve Just covered, you know that marketing is made up of a bunch of different sub Segments things like content, marketing, email, marketing and social media, all the Things we talked about, But what exactly is the nature of marketing, which sounds Like some kind of documentary “ The Nature of Marketing” on this week’s episode of The Nature of Marketing Well, one of the first things you learn in any first-year Marketing course is the four P´s of marketing product price place and Promotion Product being the details around whatever product or service is Being sold Price being the price kind of obvious, but there’s obviously a lot more That goes into it than just that Place is where the products being sold and Promotion we’re just kind of the fun stuff.
This is essentially how you’re Going to sell more of the product and what you’re going to do to get the word out. About your service, and while all of that is accurate and true and the four P´s do Make up a part of marketing? Well, I prefer a simpler, easier to understand. Definition, Marketing in its most basic sense, is communicating value to your Customers, It’s essentially answering the question of your customers “.
Why should I Care?” Marketing helps people solve their problems by clearly defining and Delivering solutions and really explaining the benefits of the solution. So they can get better results. Marketing is about connecting with people Understanding their pains and their problems and their frustrations making Them feel understood so that you can position your business as the solution. To their problems, and essentially just make them feel better and marketing is a Really powerful force As anyone that’s been in business for any length of time.
Can tell you it’s not always the best product or service that wins. In fact it Rarely is rather it’s the product or service with the best marketing, Like it. Or not, that’s just kind of how it works, which is why having good marketing is Just so important, So my favorite definition of marketing is that it’s Communicating value to your customers, but there’s another side entirely: that’s Rarely talked about, but still equally powerful and that’s creating value for Your customers, You see marketing, can create value and Your marketing, in and of itself, can be valuable.
An example could Be a blog post that helps someone out even before any money has changed hands. Or an advertisement, someone sees that brightens their day and makes them laugh. Whether they choose to buy or not or the way that a product or service is Delivered the packaging, let’s say which is so luxurious and over-the-top – that it Makes the customer feel special just for having purchased it? You see economics, Assumes that people make buying decisions rationally, logically and with Perfect information, but this is rarely pretty much, never the case.
We as humans, Are emotional often highly illogical and rarely have the full set of facts when Making any decision, which explains why marketing is so important and so Powerful, After all, if we made all of our purchasing decisions based solely on Logic and utility and the value we would get from these products. Well, the entire Luxury goods market wouldn’t even exist, but not all marketing is created.
Equal You see when it comes to marketing like when it comes to pretty much anything There’S good marketing and there’s bad marketing. Bad marketing is all of the Reasons that marketing gets such a bad reputation, It’s that hype, spammy Over-The-Top sleazy salesy icky kind of marketing that we all know we’ve all Seen and nobody likes It’s the stuff that looks cheap, makes people feel dirty. Even just looking at it and promotes bad products or bad services that really Helps nobody It’s the fake, countdown timers.
You sometimes see on websites, the Going-Out-Of-Business sales that never end and the pushy promotion of useless Products, That’s bad marketing. Good marketing, on the other hand, helps Customers achieve their goals, makes them feel better about themselves and has the Power to truly change the world, So my question to you is: What kind of marketer Do you want to be That that was a rhetorical question, If you say the bad Guy, I got nothing for you, but if you say the good kind – and I know you did then Make sure to check out this article right here, which I’ve got linked up on the Page, which is going to give you even more practical and effective marketing, Strategies to help take your business and your marketing to the next level and Way beyond that, Alright, so thanks so much for reading make sure to check out That article now and we’ll catch you next time on The Marketing Show
Please welcome author of ten arguments for deleting your social media accounts right now. Jaron Lanier the book lays out 10 really great ideas of how we can take care of ourselves, but you say that the media companies have one goal in mind and that’s to change our behavior.
What does that mean? Yeah? Ok, so you know how these services are free. You log on to Facebook, it’s free, so the reason it’s free is that there’s, like somebody else off to the side who’s paying. But it’s not like when a TV ad, it’s a different kind of ad they’re, paying to modify your behavior because you’re being constantly readed and you’re, and then what you see the ads you see, the feed you get is constantly adjusted right.
Using techniques that have been established by scientific research for over a century to get you addicted and then to get you to change a little bit right – and you know the problem with that – is that addiction has consequences. It makes people cranky, it makes them irritable and when we talk about bullying, it’s a side effect of this process. You know so until the companies can change their business model to something else.
This is going to keep on happening, and that doesn’t mean the good stuff. On social media isn’t real, it is but there’s this other machine behind the scenes that is really doing a lot of damage, Wow yeah yeah. Well, we talked earlier in hot topics about online bullying. Why is it that more hasn’t been done to control or to get rid of some of this behavior online yeah? You know it’s a funny thing, so I’m a Silicon Valley guy, I do companies, I love Silicon Valley and all my friends there, don’t let their kids use the products that we yeah and you know as a father, I’m trying to cut a middle ground cuz.
I don’t, I don’t want to create a rebellious kid. I want them to find their own lessons, but you know it really comes down to this stupid business model. You know like as long as anytime. Two people connect. The only way we make money is, if there’s a third person off to the side, sometimes like a weird intelligence warfare unit reporting to mr. Putin, but whoever it is. There’S always somebody out there.
There’S always somebody out there trying to get into the middle of your business and it makes you a little nervous. It makes you a little sad. It makes you anxious. It makes you insecure, but that’s part of the game see every addict. Has that problem. Every single addict goes to that cycle, whether it’s an drug or gambling. That’S always part of the deal yeah. So what do we do? Yeah? Well, okay, here’s what I’m asking people to do.
I know a lot of people feel like they couldn’t possibly quit, and I know a lot of people are addicted and I know there’s no place to go and all your friends are there and your family photos and all that I realize I’m in a way asking For something hopeless and yet all it takes – is a small minority of the country to get off this thing just to get some perspective to open up the conversation. Look, we have a president who’s addicted.
I don’t know if any of you knew him in the old days. I knew him before he had. He didn’t used to be quite as insecure, quite as cranky, quite as quite looking for a fight all the time. That’S his addiction talking all right, and so the thing is: what’s he addicted to power, he’s a social leader and a lot of other things? Well, he always is addicted to power. Power isn’t the same kind of thing, because power isn’t playing a deliberate game with you see social behind-the-scenes that companies like Twitter and Facebook there’s actually computer programs playing a game with you, [ Laughter, ] I’d, say he’s more addicted to lying than he used to be.
I think he’s always been a bit of us. He’S always had a bit of that thing about him, but I you know honestly like this is this is his addiction talking, and this is going to keep on happening until we can see, and you know, the other thing I want to say is young people. They have to the greatest gift that you can have for yourself is self-knowledge and until you can at least experience life outside of the manipulation machine, you can’t know yourself as well, so at least while you’re young take six months off this stuff, and then you can Decide, I don’t know you, I don’t know what’s best for you, but you have six months is a very long time and I, I think everything they’re saying is 100 % valid.
But what what do you say to someone like me? I mean I met my husband on Twitter, our so there are the good things are totally real. Nobody would deny that and see. This is what so, it’s like a sandwich of good and bad, but the thing is, we don’t need the bad stuff. So yeah, I’m asking you it’s a huge investment six months to learn about yourself. I know it’s a lot. You know I all I can say is, I think if you do it, you’ll really find it.
You know thanks, but but there are some bad things and they happened in the last election with Facebook and Twitter and the interference from Russia yeah. You know how do we doing squat to prevent it from happening? You know – and you know why it’s because, as long as the whole system is run on this like manipulation in secret, it’s like rolling out a red carpet to all the worst people in the world.
You know and honestly, a lot of it a lot of the folks that the companies are good people they’re, my friends and they’re, doing their best to pick. You know, do little tiny changes like they got it rid of the fake people, but they can. You have to come back is that yeah yeah thanks Jerry linear members of the audience honey y’all are getting the boy. Thank you.
