8 SEO Tips for Your Website

Nowhere And so SEO stands for. Search Engine Optimization and it’s work that you do To make sure that you prove to Google and other search Engines you’re the best So for SEO. I like to use the analogy of all the work that you need to do is like a 1,000 piece puzzle And you and all of your competitors. You all have the same puzzle and we’re trying to prove To Google who’s the best which one of these puzzles Is the most complete My puzzle’s best? Definitely the best Yours is definitely the best.

We know that Does Google know that We shall find out Right But the thing is not Everyone has all 1,000 pieces, Some people are new, Some people have been Doing it for a long time, and Google doesn’t necessarily care that you have all the pieces in The thing that Google cares about is that you have more than the next guy. You could have maybe 10 pieces and if you’re in not a very Competitive space then yeah you’re going to appear on the first page, So these eight tips that We’re going to talk about are going to help you to Start putting those pieces in to get started on your SEO.

Journey for local businesses Perfect. So, let’s jump into the tips. What’s tip number one Tip number one for local businesses: Everybody needs this. Is you need to create or claim your Google My Business Profile, Google, My Business? Is this Tool that Google has created that allows users to see all Of your business information in one place, We did a article all about This so go check it out, so you can deep dive, but basically, if you don’t have a profile, You need to go, create one and, if you haven’t claimed your profile, meaning that your profile exists.

But you didn’t necessarily do It or some user created that you need to claim it. So that you can update it with all the right information Right, You need to make sure It’s in your control, Don’t let it out to the World for anyone to add It’s yours, So tip number two is that you need to optimize your profiles, It’s great to have it created, but if you don’t have all the information that Google is looking for, then they’re not going to recommend your business over someone else.

So that means having your Business name correct your address: your phone number, your hours of operation, Those are the basics that most people do, but optimizing it really Means going a level below that so adding photographs, adding your logo adding pictures of your building, so that was when people are Actually going to your business, they know what it looks like If you’re a restaurant include pictures of dishes.

And what you’re known for so that way, people have Lots more information when they’re, looking at your Google, My Business page, So those are the key things That you need to do to optimize If there’s reviews that are outstanding, you need to respond to All of those reviews You need to encourage your Customers to go and leave reviews, because that also plays a part In how you’re going to rank against other local business profiles, All right, Morgan What’s tip number three Tip number three: is you Need to add your business to relevant business directories.

These are other sites. That their main business is promoting other Businesses like yourself, and so you need to make Sure that your business, not only is there but the Information is correct and the great thing It’s an easy back link. Absolutely So it really helps with your SEO to make Sure that your business anywhere people are looking At these business directories, your business shows up All right, which brings Us to tip number four Tip number four is to Add your business address to your website.

It sounds pretty plain and simple, but a lot of websites don’t have that So again to increase your rankings. This is one thing that not Only Google is looking for, but your users, if they’re wanting to visit your business, they want to have the address. Very prominently placed So put it in the footer. Have a separate page about your location, Just make sure that it’s there Visible and very prominent All right so should We put a Google Maps thing on the site too.

Yeah that helps That’s. Visual People can click it. They can see exactly where you’re located the cross streets. So that’s Always helpful as well so just make sure that you actually have the address called out. And written out next to that Perfect, which brings us to tip number five, What’s tip number five, Make sure that your NAP is consistent across the web. What’s NAP, Name I like naps, I mean well ( laughter, ) Name address phone number, So you need to make sure That those three things are consistently formatted everywhere, So pick one and then Update it on your website, [ Nealey ], Stick with it, Update it on your Google, My Business and then update it anywhere.

Else where your website appears, If you don’t own those websites, Email, the owner and say: “: Hey: can you update this?” And most likely they will but just make sure it’s Consistent everywhere Perfect To number six, what do we got? You need to update your home, page’s, meta, title and meta description, The meta title and meta Description are things on your website that you control how your website shows Up on the search results, So whatever the meta title, Is that’s what will appear on the search engine results page and then the little description below This is a great opportunity for you to let your clients Know what you’re about So, if you are a coffee shop in Seattle, maybe you should have That, in your meta, title and description Put your location, Put more information about your business.

So that way, your users Know what you’re about Right and most website builders or applications that you use have a section for you. To add a meta title, a meta keyword and meta descriptions. If you don’t know how to go. In the backend and do it, which most of us don’t want to right So if you need help just contact, whoever you’re Hosting your site with They’ll, probably be able to help you get that information there.

Because if you don’t set anything Google will just assume Whatever it wants to put there – and it may not always be relevant to what you want to Invoke to your audience All right Morgan! What do We got for tip number seven Tip number. Seven is just to make sure that all of your other Seo elements are in place Make sure that you have great Content on your website Make sure that your Source code is formatted in the way that Google likes to see it, Make sure that you have a great number of high-quality backlinks that are pointing back to your site.

All of this will help with your local SEO. We actually did an entire article. All about the basics of SEO check it out right here, So it’s super relevant to make sure your site is structured in a Way that Google basically wants so on your site, those H1 Tags, like you mentioned it’s basically, a code On the site that says “, This is my most relevant Tag line,”, if you will So only one H1 tag per site.

Images are super important. Because Google cannot read images, but it can read text. So that’s that little description there Most website, builders or Applications, like Word Press, has a place for you to add those All right. Morgan, we’re On the very last tip, It’s been an incredible Journey # thejourney. What is tip number eight Tip number. Eight is To consider launching paid ads or Google guarantee, So if you’re not getting The results fast enough or the traction that you need Using steps one through seven and appearing in the organic sections, then this is where paid ads and the Google guarantee comes in, So you can consider doing these things Paid ads.

Obviously, it’s pay to play Whoop. You appear right at the Top of the search result, It’s amazing, but once Your ad budget is gone. You no longer appear there, But people click on the ads, They’re very effective. So I love paid ads. It gets you right to the top, but I’m not really familiar. With what Google guarantee is Give us the low down, So the Google guarantee Is basically paid ads supercharged, So you could pay.

Anyone really can pay to have their business. Appear in the paid ads, but the Google guarantee Takes it to the next level, where, if someone purchases the service through the Google guarantee And they’re not happy, they can get their money. Back, which is really awesome, So it’s Google vetting certain businesses and making sure that they Provide a great experience, There’s extra levels, you Have to do to qualify for the Google guarantee, but it’s really great and Stands out in the search results and people love it All right guys.

Those were our eight quick tips to help improve your local SEO. I hope you liked it I liked it Did you like it. How to Turn Your Hobby Into a Side Hustle

I’r super excited to be joined with my co-host Justin Nealey, what’s up Justin, What’s up Seems like everybody, These days has some type of side hustle. This is the Side, hustle economy right, Wait! What’s your side hustle, I just hustle ( laughter, ), Fair same oh, my gosh We’re doing the same thing So, what’s kind of the big challenge that someone reaches they’re like “ Yeah, I wan na turn this Into a side, hustle.

”, What’s one of the first things that halts them from getting there, I think the biggest Thing is figuring out what their side hustle’s going to be about, because we have a lot of Different things we do Some people like to Just eat pizza all day, some people like….. What was Your Twitter handle again @ EmmaWantsPizza. I look Forward to your follow First step is drilling Down “, What do I actually want to be known for what Do I actually wan na do?” When I think of something I’r passionate about I just wan na give it all of my time.

I don’t want it to be a side hustle. I wan na give 110 % so How do you balance that I think the biggest thing Is to start small right, We can’t just go full-force on it. Some of us can’t afford To take that full leap and just become a full-fledged entrepreneur, Good point: That’s why we have that side hustle! It’s that great source of income to basically test the Waters and figure things out before we can make that leap and see if it’s a viable option.

Totally Cause we got bills right. Can you really make money with this? Is that something that People get hung up on, or do you think people get distracted with side hustles that are Just full passion projects in hopes that they’ll make money. One day I mean: where does that come in? I think it’s both You can either spend a lot of money towards your side. Hustle And not take it anywhere or you can make it something lucrative.

So another thing that comes to mind, besides, of course, making Money with a side hustle is time resources. What do You have advice about that. So that’s tough right. The biggest thing is You have to prioritize what’s important and set aside time, so you can actually Work on your side, hustle or not. Let your side hustle Control your entire life Cause. I know that I’ve been there I freelanced for a while in the past It caused me to just burn out which is pretty common.

I imagine yeah In the side hustle world, It challenges your balance every day, 100 %, so the biggest Thing you need to do is prioritize what you need to accomplish and set aside specific times. Of when you’re going to do things cause you still have to have a life. You still have to eat that pizza. So what would you say for Me if I had a side hustle and you were going to give me some advice about time, management and planning ahead.

How would I do that, So you can basically Take your content calendar to real life, so on Tuesdays you’re going to work on social media for three hours And then on Friday. You’re going to do whatever You can really just piece: That out, but start small, You don’t wan na overwhelm yourself and you don’t wan na burn out cause. If you go too full-force into this you’ll end up just not Liking what you love to do, and we don’t want that to happen.

How do you decide which platform to use First and foremost, you Have to have a website, That’s basically the first Place that people are going to go to make sure that you’re legitimate And then two go to social Make sure you’re out there promoting your products? Telling people what you do following people in your niche Having those conversations – And I would still do a little bit of in-person in real life right And have those connections – And go to local meetups or go to networking events and find people that are in your potentially Your area, your niche and build up those connections.

I love that. I call that local love All right Like if you’re the Juice bar in Silverlake follow the yoga studio next door, There’s a lot of overlap and similarities between their target audience Right and then, once you get everyone to whatever platform you end up. Choosing your website social in real Life that local love right, You got ta get paid, There’s a lot of cool platforms out there that make it super easy to get paid Like what We all know Square right, The little thing that just the dongle that gets put in your phone And you swipe the credit card right there.

I am so grateful for Square when I go To the farmer’s market, And then we have PayPal and Stripe for online processing, so Lots of easy integrations like WordPress or just any Type of website builder that we have that you can Easily set up and get paid Or Venmo if it’s a local transaction, — Ugh, I love Venmo. I love Venmo, the random Conversations people have, I see, lots of tacos in –. That’s how I pay my landlord In your feed.

That’s how I keep my friends happy. That’s it! Splittin’ those bills: What do you do when it Comes to protecting yourself and the policies that go along with that Right – and this is Something that you might have to go and get advice from a lawyer with, Because you wan na make Sure that you’re protected You’ll, probably wan na File some sort of LLC or register your business in some way, There’s a couple different variations, But do that first and foremost On your website.

If you have one terms of service, is a must. Same with a privacy policy, especially with some of the GDPR stuff that I won’t go into in this episode And then check out, there’s A lot of generators out there for web design contracts, for example, or just random service Contracts, you can use and protect yourself and your audience Okay, so this probably won’t come as a surprise that I’m going to ask this.

But how will you promote this side hustle, You know I’m a little Biased social media You’ve got your love, Got my love for the social media, but how are you going to promote it? The biggest piece of Advice that I can give is have some sort of lead generator on your website, because Leads turn into customers And that lead generator could be an eBook. It could be a article Series, it could be some of your blog content.

It could be coaching could be whatever you want it to be, Just that free piece of Advice or free content that you can give your audience That then turns into leads, and you continue that Conversation with them, Oh absolutely Right and now with social media. What are your top three Social media platforms, If I was to run a side hustle What do you want me on All right? That’s easy! Instagram for yours, Instagram Twitter and Facebook: That’s going to help you to reach A variety of demographics, which last we spoke That was your side hustle.

It wasn’t specific to an age group Also they work better together, So think about this too, and this is what’s really cool about your side. Hustle. Is you have a variety of angles to go? You could post something That’s educational today, but also besides educational, you could just post things: That are just entertaining Also some great ways to Engage on social media to spread more word-of-mouth To promote your business, Ask questions that your target Audience would wan na answer And so you’re mixing up the Types of posts that you’re doing and as a result, you’re getting That real word-of-mouth And, like you say you don’t wan na, go on there and just sell, sell, sell You wan na go on there.

And tell tell tell Yeah Right, It can’t be all about you and say: “ Hey buy this buy this Buy this buy this!” Cause. No one wants to actually follow that and be a part of that they’re. Just going to scroll past you or unfollow you. How do I know that? What I’m doing the promotions, I’m putting together the time, I’m investing it’s getting me a return on investment. For my side, hustle And that’s tough, What a lot of people get Hung up on are subscribers and like counts, which It’s somewhat important, What’s more important, Are your sales right? Are you making an impact? And are they buying from your service or product that you have for your side hustle? So there’s lots of Different tools out there that could potentially They track a lot of that QuickBooks for your sales.

Or online bookkeeping, Facebook has a lot of Really great tracking software, so you can See your engagement, you can see how many People viewed your post, viewed your article liked it shared it — Clicked on the post Same thing with Instagram. You can see how many people viewed It liked it commented — Engagement rate Right So, wherever whatever Platform you’re using there’s something to track that visibility or with your website itself.

You can use Google Analytics to see how people are coming to your site, Good point, How often they’re coming to your site, how they’re staying on there Are they just bouncing? That’s called a bounce Rate they literally just bounced they’re out, But what about paid promotions? This is the part where A lot of people end up spending a lot more into The personal side hustle than it actually pays them I bet It’s really easy today to start putting $ 5 a day $ 10 a day and At the end of the month, you’re like “, Where did my money go? This is supposed to make me money!”.

So what I would say, To that is start small Start with a couple Dollars here and there and kind of figure out what’s Getting you the traffic what’s actually converting to sales, and once you find something That works expand on that There’s. No one size fits all when it comes to paid advertising. — I believe that, But I can say going back: To what we said earlier is making it about how You help your audience and how you can really help them grow All right, that’s a wrap Justin! Thank you.

So much for being here, Thank you for having me And for all of you listening in, be sure to subscribe to our Blog, if you haven’t already More articles and fun and laugh And learn sessions to come

How to Get Traffic to Your Website

It’s not something you can do today and you’re going to start Getting traffic tomorrow Right Right, But if you have all this Great content but bad SEO, no one’s going to find it Welcome to The Journey, I’m Nealey And I’m Morgan, And today we’re talking about how to get traffic to your website All right.

So I’ve got this website and I made it all super pretty its got good. Animations, how do we get traffic to it Yeah, so you spent so much Time and you’re pretty bummed that no one’s finding your website Well, the first thing you Need to do is you need to put content on your website? So if you don’t have articles, if you don’t have a Reason for people to be continually coming to your website. You need to give’em a reason So start publishing content regularly Start a blog.

It’s the Easiest thing that you can do You can post whatever cadence you want, whether its once a week twice a week three times a week, four Five six times a week, I don’t know You pick what works for you and just start putting content out there. Then people will start finding it and then subscribing and Coming back and back again, All right and as a bonus, we actually dove pretty deep into content creation.

And content marketing We’ll throw the link right over there, But talking about the cadence and series, how do we really keep things? Organized and consistent Easiest thing you can do is create a content calendar, Its a place where you Can put all of your post and all of your ideas in one Place and then you can see,’Okay. I need to write these 10 articles and they’re going to post on these days..’ Perfect.

So we have the Content created Content is king Now, should it just live on the website? What else should we do with That content to build traffic, So the easiest thing that you can do is once you already have tons of content is: go, publish it everywhere Everywhere. Everywhere So, for example, if I have a blog post and I took great photographs and its five tips on how To be awesome, you know I should show the world on Other places on YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Hey.

Maybe I should share those five tips on those other places because I have followers. There are lots of people out there that don’t just follow you on your blog, So you need to get that content out. There’s people on Pinterest Who don’t even know you exist? So you need to make sure you create a nice little Pinterest banner and it links back to your website, because people will be Searching and they’ll find you and they’ll become one of your New followers and readers – I like that, So that’s super important.

You create a banner for Pinterest and you create a you repurpose that content for Instagram, don’t just copy paste. It everywhere right, You have to make it for that platform Like Twitter, keep it super. Simple super short Instagram Include one of the tips. Imagery is everything Especially the five photos Right Make sure its for that audience.,’Cause they’re there for a reason Like if I’m on Instagram, I want to see imageries And things like that, I don’t want.

I don’t want to see text Yep For YouTube. You Basically, have a script already written with That piece of content so just get in front of the camera and share those five tips and publish to the YouTube world There. It is, And then you put little Micro-Content everywhere else on YouTube and then back to your website, just repurpose its like a circle Just be everywhere and share Yep Share it all All right, so we’re repurposing content, we’re putting on social we’re, putting it on our website, putting it where our followers are.

But what we haven’t brought Up is email marketing. Now a lot of people say ‘Email marketing is dead, don’t use it its in the Past everything’s, social.’: What’s the value behind email, marketing, First and foremost, people who are saying Email marketing is dead, NO, NO, NO Email marketing is still alive and well The great thing about email marketing, its really one of the only Places where the algorithm, like all these algorithms out There that hide your content and make it so people who Are supposedly following you can’t find it You own that list, And so, when you send an email, They will see your email, So that’s a great way to get your content in front of eyeballs of People who indicated like literally they’ve, signed Up to follow updates from you, So in email, marketing, there’s lots of different Things that you can do You can do a newsletter.

You can just anytime, you post, you automatically Send an email to anyone Whatever you want, just go and get in front of Your audience through email, What are some of your Favorite newsletters Like go check your inbox Right now and just look: Are you following businesses and there’s a reason and What a super great point is you don’t always read those messages Right right, But you still see that brand constantly Yep Right, keeping that awareness going When they see that email from you sometimes they’re, going to click they’re going to go back to your website and that’s Going to increase Traffic to your website, And just to add on to that, we talked about it in earlier articles, not to’sell, sell, sell.

‘, You Want to’tell tell tell.’ And when you’re creating your Email marketing newsletter – you want it to add value, Whether its your blog post or content, Don’t always be an offer to buy this.’cause you’re going to get Just unsubscribed immediately, So what are some other Options that we can do to help build traffic to our site Yeah, so we’ve done a ton. We’ve built our own content. We’ve shared our content on All of our social blogs and all these different places we’ve gone to our email list Now its time to go to Other people’s website Out into the wild, Yes, The wild wild west of sites that you do not own yourselves, So you don’t control It called Guest Posts, So basically we know how Hard creating content is its time consuming.

You have to edit it. You have to draft. You have to Come up with all these ideas and you’re an expert And maybe you’ve already Written about the things that you’re an expert About so many times over, Your audience knows that, but maybe someone else’s Audience would benefit from learning from you, So Guest Blogging is Going to someone else, maybe in your niche or a Different niche and saying “ Hey.

I would like to write An article for your audience, Here’s what I was thinking.” And what that does. Is you Create very useful content, And then the most important is that, somewhere in your bio or in that article, you have a link back to your website, So that these new readers can find you and then go to your website visit and follow you from there. Not only that that also Build back links right Yep, So that helps your SEO.

Increases the traffic, which is what this article is about – That’s perfect because That ties into SEO Getting more traffic to your site. It means appearing on search engines. So if you aren’t even Appearing on the first page, your basically dead, No one goes past. The first Search page of google or any of the search engines, So you need to work on your SEO, which is your Search Engine Optimization, So that way, people when they’re searching for your keywords or your products or services that you show up and they visit your site.

We actually just did a Article all about this, You can check it out right here. All the basics of SEO SEO is so big, make sure To check out that article, But if you have all this Great content but bad SEO: no one’s going to find it. So you really work on your Seo to increase your traffic Right And what really Helped me understand, backlinks and something that I deal with a lot is you can think of backlinks Almost as like followers or like on your post on Instagram or wherever else, The more likes you get, the More people are going to see it, So those backlinks are Just “ likes” for your website, So SEO takes a ton of time right.

It’s not something you can do today and you’re going to start Getting traffic tomorrow, [ Morgan ] Right right. What are some things that, if we need that instant gratification like’, I’m a millennial, I need to see it now.’. What are some things I can do. To get that instant traffic Yep, Like you said, SEO, is building a Relationship with Google, So it does take time. It’s Like we’re dating Google, You have to take them on all these dates month after month week after week, and so it really does Take six or 12 months to really have very Very strong SEO results if you’re consistently Putting in the efforts, But if you need traffic now there are things that you Can do right now to get.

.. Right, meow Right now To get the Traffic that you need Its called’Ads.’ So ads on search engines are an easy way to have your website pop up on the top of the search results, But the problem with it Is that its pay to play? So if I have a $ 1000 ad budget, every time that someone clicks that ad it gets subtracted from my budget And eventually whatever the rate is when by budget’s gone, my website,,’Poof.

‘, It no longer appears on the search result, But ads do work. We love Google, That’s why we use it Every single day, Multiple times per day, So people love Google And they do trust the ads. So if you need people to Buy your products right now, you might want to look Into a PPC campaign to get that traffic Right, That Pay-Per-Click and Google’s not the Only place you can do it, I’m sure you’ve scrolled on Facebook or on Instagram or Twitter and you’ve seen the ads there too, Like you need to be Where your audience is Like Google’s, probably the most relevant,’cause people are searching.

For those exact terms, so you’re going to get that instant click, But its part of the brand awareness and just random clicks to the site, those social media platforms, Are probably pretty good, too Yep, Speaking of social ads, social ads can be very targeted because they know everything About your demographics, what you like, what you don’t like! It’s a bit scary, All right! So we’re Doing all these things to build traffic to our website, but how do we know what’s working Analytics? So if you do not have Google Analytics installed on your website.

You need to stop and go Install it right now, Because it has so much information about who is visiting your website when they’re visiting your website, how long what pages they’re visiting when they’re leaving Its so much information, and it will help you understand. Which of your articles that you spent so much time creating are getting the most traffic Where they’re, coming from What search terms, people are searching to find those articles And so you’ll be able to see very quickly what are your top performers and what are your duds? So you can stop working on the Things that aren’t working And building more content that people are actually searching for So Google analytics you could do a whole article.

Just on that There’s master courses – Just on Google analytics, But even just having The basic installation will give you enough information, so you can continue building content that your audience wants. Which will bring more traffic And then to add on that. I probably recommend setting Up, Google webmaster tools Just so you can see where your organic search Traffic is coming from. You can see the search terms.

How often people are viewing It they’re clicking it Things like that kind of piggy backs on That Google analytics Yep All right guys. I hope this Article was helpful for you and that you have actionable Tips that you can start today to start increasing Traffic to your website, I’m curious. Let me know In the comments below What is one thing, you’re Going to start doing, Are you going to build content? Work on an email list, let me know, I know what I’m doing.

Designing Blog Elements in Canva

My own personal branding and I wan na incorporate that into my blog, but you know on a budget but by myself, Yeah,’cause, we’re ballin’ on a budget Of course. So I’m going to show You how to actually make different blog elements using Canva here on The Journey, So when building your brand and building, whether it’s for personal or for business and designing these elements, it’s important to be consistent with it.

Because if you start Throwing out one design and then in a week later, You have another design, People don’t know really who You are or what to follow, So it’s important keep that on track Yeah. So let me go ahead and Show you a quick demo of how to actually make Those blog elements using Canva, absolutely free, Sounds good Cool All right, so you told Me you wan na really like elevate your brand and start creating your Own branded content, So we’re going to use Canva for that.

I love Canva, just because Of its ease of use, Anyone can go in and edit it I mean. I know Photoshop and All these advanced things, but Canva just makes it That much easier and faster to actually create this content. So what we’re actually going to create today is basically your featured images, we’re going to make them A little bit more branded and a little bit more elevated make them stand out a little bit.

We might have a little Extra bonuses at the end too Perfect, But I see these burgers Like Whataburger review, the In-n-out review Hopdddy All these different things We wan na go ahead, get in Canva and check this out, You can get there by just By going to Canva.Com but right in the top there Where it says design anything we’re just going to type Blog and see what pops up, We have blog banner and blog graphic, So I’m probably going to Use just the blog banner, So it’s not as big or This image right here, they’re, not that big, we Want them kind of small and choose blog banner And what’s cool about this Especially, if you don’t have that design eye is, it gives you tons of templates to start from So earlier you were telling Me some of your colors are those green colors right, [ Alex ] Right, [ Nealey ], So you can see here.

There’s not a lot of green and that’s okay, You’re going to be able Edit all of this content, So I’m going to let you kind of go ahead and tell me which style you wan na use. Let’s choose The Art, Exhibit one [ Nealey ] All right, so you Chose the art exhibit template. I like it We’re going to go ahead and edit it and make it kind of your own. So we obviously don’t Want the art exhibit Let’s check out, let’s do one of your most recent reviews, which is WHATABURGER review and then “ All about Their burgers and fries.

” A little bit there [ Alex ] Yeah, [, Nealey ]. So what’s cool About this is this font might not be your font In the upper left. You can actually go ahead and change that and it’s linked up with Google fonts. So anything on google Fonts, which is usually what most websites use what your brand uses you can add here. So, let’s scroll through And find your brand, So I know you liked Poppins So we’re going to go ahead and use Poppins right here, So Poppins’ bold.

So we’ve got that Whataburger review and maybe we don’t want this Whatever this background is it’s kind of blurry, Let’s go ahead and add in a burger, So we’re just going to pick a burger’cause. I don’t want to go to your website, I’m a little lazy, I’m going to go ahead. And search photos and just type burgers, I wan na keep it free and then search. So all these burgers are absolutely free. I can go ahead.

Add it On here, just like that And wallah We’ve got a Whataburger review all about their burgers All right. So that’s Just the basics of Canva, using the templates adding The background image adding some text change the font. Were there any other elements. You really wan na add to this image. I’r not really sure What kind Of options am I looking at All right, so, let’s just check it out. So, on the left hand, side, we’ve got different options and we’re going to go to elements.

Elements are just different. Images ingredients and all these other things inside of Canva that you can use So I wan na talk about grids for a second Grids are basically –. Let me just throw that on there. They looks like a little cloud and some grass and stuff right, But this is really for, if You wan na add an image here without having to style it yourself, It’s really great for templates. So if I had that post there And then I wanted to add another picture of a burger right here.

It throws it in just like that. So then, if I have another image, I could just put it right on top and then the template Changes with that image Super helpful when you’re Making your blog post, you don’t have to always going to edit it and style it move it around. Those little things help out tremendously. So, let’s move on We’ve got different shapes could add different Shapes on your website style, however, you want move it around.

Just like ( beat box music ), But you go ahead and change the Colors right at the top left, You said your colors are Greens, so I make that green green again. Maybe we want this kind of. I don’t know just randomly up here. Why not we’re just going with it And then, if you don’t want It there like, I, don’t You can just hit, delete and it’s gone So there’s all sorts of different icons and different elements you can have.

If I search burger, for example, I can probably find a Lot of different burgers. Remember you wan na click on that free icon. We’re try to do this for free [, Alex ], Absolutely [, Nealey ]! I really like This little guy right here That is only works. You Can’t see the content Cool, maybe that works But yeah. There’s lots of Different things, you can do You just search in the Top left under elements, if you wan na, add your Text you can do so there You wan na, add a different background.

You can go through all your uploads, I’m not going to go through uploads and you’ll, see all my randomness And then you can categorize your stuff by folders and things like that. So then, when you’re done, you would just choose download. So let’s download this bad guy and then go over to your website. Go to your Whataburger review, Let’s edit, that post! Let’s change this image upload ours! So once it’s uploaded, remember that all text Is super important WHATABURGER REVIEW Juicy burger posts for the caption and then select and update.

So now we can go back to our website. [ Alex ] Looks so much better. [ Nealey ] We have that Whataburger review is they can see that super quick and easy? Not everyone likes to read these. They, like flip through the images they’ll see that image and they’ll also see The Whataburger review So now, what’s super cool When it comes to Canva, if you end up upgrading To their premium license is the ability to resize your content, you’ve already created.

So if you say you wanted The same type of template on social media’cause Branding is super important. It’s super important to be consistent. You can easily resize this To say an Instagram post Click resize at the top search Instagram Instagram post copy & resize, and then it threw it together. And an Instagram post, You might need to update some of the different elements if needed, but it makes it super simple to really have your brand everywhere.

[ Alex ] Right. So that was awesome. What else can I do in Canva for my blog [ Nealey ]? Yes, so what a lot Of people will do in Canva, especially on a blog, is Create their own custom ads So those little things that will end up on the widget sidebar. So let’s go back to canva’s home and then we’re just going to Search Ads see what pops up, So we have a Facebook Ad That’s a little too wide a leaderboard Ad large Rectangle and a medium rectangle, You should probably just Do a medium rectangle, keep it simple, And then we have all of This different content, We kind of wan na, keep it consistent to the look and feel That we had with this So let’s actually just Do this from scratch? So when you go to elements I’m going to throw in this grid, keep it easy on us right.

[ Alex ] Yeah [ Nealey ], And then you had Your recipe book right, What was the recipe book about? [ Alex ] Taco, Tuesday recipes [, Nealey ], All right. So this whole Ad is going to be about your Taco Tuesday recipe book. So I wan na search for a taco image, Which one looks good to you: [ Alex ], All of them, (, laughs, ), [, Nealey, ] You’re, not wrong; [ Alex ]. Let’s do the One with the limes yeah [ Nealey, ], Perfect All right now I want to Make this a little darker just so that the white Will contrast on it, You do so with the adjust at the top.

Now I wan na add some text in Taco, Tuesday Recipes and that’s obviously way too big, not the font. We want And not in the colors, So we wanted Poppins’cause, it’s poppin’, (, laughs, ), I’m real corny, guys All right. We also wan na change the color. I didn’t change. All of it All right go back to Poppins Poppins Poppins Poppins. There we go All right and then we Wan na change the color make that white we wan na change the size.

That’s way too big That looks good, And now with this I don’t really want That extra space there, it’s kind of too much You can go over to spacing And then go to line height and then shrink or expand this as needed All right, so we got Taco Tuesday recipes, Let’s check on the other posts, so we make this consistent. All right! We’ve got these Little white lines here so, let’s make sure we have that It’s going to be over in elements and then shapes, I hope, Nope, I hope nope.

Oh, then, you go over two elements go down to lines That makes more sense And then also that white turn it around Got to shrink a little bit And then the regular Commands like CTRL, +, C CTRL, + V, things like that work here You hit CTRL + D. If you’re on a windows, computer or Command + D, it’ll duplicate it nice and easy for you And what’s cool about Canva is it kind of will make A little bit of a grid, so you can see it, it shows that it’s even With the other one, So you can throw that in there And now we have our Taco Tuesday Recipes.

Now, if there’s anything else, you wan na add you can always just kind of search, see what other things pop up. Maybe you wan na add Some random little tacos in the top left or on top Cool, and now once we have this we’re going to want to download that then go over to your website. Now we’re going to throw it Under the widget area, So we wan na go over to Your WordPress dashboard appearance and then widgets and then we wan na actually Add an image here So there’s an image on The left hand column just drag that right over I’m, going to put that above –.

Actually, let’s put it Below the recent posts, We don’t really wan na title and we just wan na upload that Taco Tuesday Recipe image Now what’s important, With some of these images that you throw on your Website in the bottom right, it’ll usually try to make It just the medium size Now our medium size is the full size, but for those you’re reading, if you have an image, you’re uploading make sure you put it on full size.

Otherwise, it’s going to Make it a lot smaller than it actually is, Let’s go add to widget save. If you wanted to link to your landing page that we created earlier, you can go ahead, do so there And then let’s check it out, It’s going to go to your website and then let’s check Your WHATABURGER REVIEW and then bam. We got your Taco Tuesday Recipes [ Alex ]. It looks good [ Nealey ]. So if someone click that it’ll go to your landing page, see all about your recipe book and then you’ve got it So Canva will let you really create almost anything you’re wanting to What I would recommend.

Is just going through all of the designs They have it right here. It’s like Canva print posters, logos, desktop Wallpaper blog banners Instagram Stories literally everything, But what I would highly Highly highly recommend is always keep your brand consistent. Now, there’s lots of templates to use and it sounds really cool. Don’t just go and start making all sorts of different stuff. It’s going to confuse your audience.

If you start doing that Perfect, do I think I’ve got it all I’m going to go home play with Canva, see what I can create. How to Make an Opt-In Form for Your Email Marketing

They can Just sign up right there, you can have it at the end of your post. You can have it in your Social media profiles – Really, you can put it Anywhere that there’s a link, So I heard that you can buy A list of email addresses: Is that really the best practice Yeah? That’s a no We’ve all been added to lists where you get these Emails and you’re like who the heck is this from That’s true: That’s a one-way ticket to spamville.

So don’t do that. Don’t be that person. The easiest way is just To give your readers the opportunity to sign up and then they’ll enjoy the Content that you’re sending and most likely read it Now. I know I’m already a part of a lot of different email lists and I wouldn’t really Wan na join another one. So what do you do to make someone Or entice them to sign up Yeah. Obviously your Fans are going to join’cause, they want your content, but some of your readers and fans may need a little extra incentive and that’s where an Opt-In incentive comes in So this can be anything where hey sign up and You get this freebie or you get my checklist on How to be more productive things like that, Just give them something that Encourages them to to sign up so that way, they’re not just Signing up for another list And a lot of times you Will have people sign in get the little freebie and Bounce and unsubscribe, But a lot of the time you Will have people who will stay And if you have great content, They’re going to stick around and that’s more opportunity for you to market you and your business As you’ve often heard content is king.

So now Morgan, you have Your email subscribers, but now how do you keep them Yeah, so you wan na make sure number one is that you have a really eye-catching subject line. I think one of the easiest way to do this is to throw an emoji in there, because when I see that Those emails stand out And don’t just go. Emoji crazy’cause, that’s a little too much, but you wan na have just a little emoji, just get a little color a little pop and then also have a subject line that really says ooh.

I need To click that I want that, So yes, content is king, and so you wan na make sure that content is super relevant to your audience. They signed up and they wan na stick around for what they signed up for That’s what they’re expecting. So if you have a newsletter that has the top five articles of the week and then you change it up on Them and you’re just saying hey: this is what I did today and here’s a vlog about my life.

You may find people who Aren’t really into that, because they actually really liked your top five articles of the week So make sure that your content is relevant and really driving to not Only what your users want, but also what you want for your business. This is a huge opportunity to convert these users Into paying customers so you’re going to have to balance that And another way to get people To opt-in to your email list is to have subscriber-only perks.

I know I’m a part of some email list where you get first chance at merchandise or opportunities to see different articles before everybody else does, and it kinda makes you feel special Part of the cool kids club Exactly And the next thing is: don’t Email, your subscribers everyday [, Morgan ]! No, You don’t wan na be that one That floods, everyone’s email, We know who you are company X, (, laughs, ), Unsubscribe So make sure to space it out and give your subscribers a Breather every now and then So guys you need to get started.

Creating your opt-in, And your email list now It is so important, Even if you don’t have a product, yet you have people who will be following you and you want to start creating And building that list, even if your product is a year out so that way when it is ready to launch boom, you have an Instant base of customers that you can now sell to Don’t wait, And I know it’s a lot of work in coming up with these emails and I’m already doing social media, I’m already doing blog Posts but make the time It doesn’t have to be like we said.

Definitely don’t do once a day. It doesn’t even have to be weekly just find a nice cadence, so you can start getting People on your list and giving them some value All right guys, I hope You enjoyed this article on what is an opt-in form and how to effectively use It in your email, marketing And I’m curious. Let me know what are Those companies or people that any time they send you an email, you click it and you check it out, Comment below And make sure that you, like this article, Subscribe to our blog And also ring the bell.

So you know when we have new fresh Content coming out, This is “ The Journey” Thanks for reading and we’ll see you next time,

How To Use Google Analytics for your Business

What is it it’s a tracking token that you get to put on your website and then it gives you so much information about the people who are Coming to your website what pages they’re visiting when they’re, coming, how they’re coming and the best part about it? It’s free! I like free, All right so first step we’re going to to go google.

Com/analytics And then we need to sign Up for an Analytics account All right, so it’s going to bring You to this landing page Hit Sign Up, So we’re just going to name this one Morgan Test for my test website And then you can choose to share your data with a variety of things. I’r just going to click those Right now it’s up to you And then click Next, Since we’re setting This up for our website we’re going to click.

We want to measure web. The next thing that we Need to do is we need to put in all the information About our website, So we gave this account a name, and now we need to specifically Call the website name, So this website is called upskill.Life and we’re just going to use the Same thing, upskill.Life, This is actually one of Nealey’s accounts that we’re going to be setting up for him. I think it’s, the Beauty and Fitness So pick an industry category.

And then you can obviously put your Time Zone and then hit Create. So now that you’re account is set up the very first page that it Brings you is your Tracking ID. This is the most important step. Just because you created an account does not mean that suddenly, Google is going to start Tracking your website, You actually have to do something with the code that it generates So right here, very top front and center it let’s.

You know that this is your code, But you don’t just copy And paste this code, you actually need this Code all the way down here this script, So what you’re going to go? Do is you’re going to put that on your website. Every website is different. WordPress has areas that you can do it. Depending on your theme, you Might have to add a plugin, but it’s best to go and Look at your website’s documentation to see how to Add the Google Analytics’ code So after that than I’m good In theory, it may take 24 To 48 hours to propagate, so that’s why you can come Back here to the status just to keep, checking and Right now it says no data received, so we haven’t Put it on anything, but it will say you’re good.

I have a site, we can go. Into that has traffic and has the code it’s Been there for a long time, So let’s go check out. One of my other sites, So this main page, this Kind of gives you a snapshot of everything that you’re seeing So right. Now you can see that there’s one active user on this site. You can see over the past few days more or less what how many Users have been there page views, balance rate and Just some other statistics, where they’re coming by country, when are your hottest hours, So these are other reports that give you even more granular data about the people who are Coming to your website, So this first one is real-time.

So if you can click right here, you’ll see the number of people active on your site right now or Over the past 30 to 60 minutes, You can see where they’re coming from just one person has been To this site recently, but you can drill it Down based on location traffic sources, where They’re coming from, but what’s more important, Is your audience in general? Yes, you can see a snapshot in time, but I love to go to the audience tab and then go to overview where I can see over a longer period of time how many people have Been coming to my site, So the first thing that I like to do this is just showing the Past week that’s helpful, but I let’s go back in time.

Let’s just look at 2019 as a whole just to see [ Sam ] Yeah one week doesn’t give you a lot of information. [ Morgan, ] Yeah and you may Wan na just look at a quarter or a month, but you can See bigger trends over time, So the default it’s going. To default to users, I like to also look at page views, And then it also has some Other just high level statistics for this period, which is great, you can see the Total number of page views the average number of pages per session number of sessions and so on, how long they’re staying on average and then the bounce rate.

So the next big category, which is one that I love, is Acquisition. This is where are your Customers finding you And I always like to do Overview first because again it’s just the dashboard That has all of the metrics in one place and then, of course, you can always drill it down. This would be able To help you to redirect how you’re, using all of your time Like you, could get more On social, then you know where to spend more of your time And you know promoting your business Yeah or if you don’t Having many people coming organically, it’s probably an opportunity that you’re not ranking in search, And so you need to probably do more SEO.

Another category is Behavior So once they’re on your Website what are they doing So, let’s click on the Behavior Tab and go to the overview, So you can see – and we’ve kind of talked about these on the high level overview. You know what how many Pages, are they viewing the average page time bounce rate, but you can actually see Where they’re spending the majority of their Time on which pages, If you go right here to Behavior Flow, you can kind of see a mapping.

Of of how a customer is going through your website, As you get more familiar, With Google Analytics and you’re using it more And more for your business, there may be certain aspects: Of the different reports that you love seeing and Others that just aren’t really valuable to you, So you can go to the Customization section and then create custom. Dashboards and views so that way, when you log in you see the most important things and then you can go back.

To doing what you do best All right, that’s everything! Google Analytics, I hope you found it useful. Let me know in the comments below what you’re favorite piece of data is to track using Google Analytics I’m interested. Is it Page views is it users? Is it traffic sources? Let me know And make sure that you like subscribe and ring that bell. So You know when we have new content coming out. This is “.

The Journey” we’ll see you next time.

How Much Does a Domain Cost – And Why?

Coms and then there’s also like.Wtf so WTF. What’s the difference, You can think of a domain name like having an online Piece of real estate: Why does it cost no ( beeping )? Why does this cost so much? Have you ever thought? About buying a domain and then notice some Of them cost a dollar and some of them cost a lot more And you wondered: why is that Well you’re? In luck, We’re going to talk about That, today and more And today I’m super excited to be joined with my co-host Justin Nealey.

What’s up What up, How you doing Good to see you again Phenomenal glad to be here, So I know you got a Lot of questions for me and I’ll, let you just lay’em on me So, first and foremost, I think about cost, and why is it there’s such a range? I noticed that recently, You know something. Maybe A dollar to thousands like: why is there this range when it comes to costs for a domain? There are a lot of Potential reasons why So if nobody owns the domain name yet you can get a domain like a.

Com anywhere from like a dollar to about 20 dollars just depending and then, if somebody owns the domain name, which that’s those thousand Dollars that you see they’re essentially reselling it, You can think of a domain name like having an online piece of real estate right. That’s a good way to look at it. So they’re selling that off and they’re selling off that name, that’s been around for a While that’s super unique and that could potentially Give you business just by having that domain, Okay and then another thing I noticed.

I was so excited to talk with you, so I started just researching all this. I notice there’s.Coms and then there’s also Like.Coffee or.Wtf so WTF, what’s the difference, ( laughing ) Like why are there these differences There? So when the internet first began, we had just a couple different variations like the.Com net. Info things like that, Those are just TLDs or Top Level Domains, and then we have what’s called CCTLDs, which are Country Code, Top Level Domains.

That’s like a.Co.Uk or.Au for Australia, which really have a localized presence And then those new ones that just released not too long ago and there’s a lot more Releasing as we speak, those are GTLDs Generic Top Level Domains, that’s the.Coffee.Wiki.Ninja.Guru.Wtf.Singles, there’s a plethora of names and it was really established because all the good.Coms Are being taken right? Which is where that online Real estate comes in,’cause.

If you have a Great.Com domain name, you could sell it for Thousands of dollars, So you want it to be short and sweet, though right Absolutely. It goes back to radio test. If you got that 10. Second, Ad spot on the radio – and that’s all you could really convey – is that domain name? Is it catchy and would Someone remember it: Is it easy to spell If you have crazy cool spellings with a K for the krazy, it may not work and same thing goes with word of mouth.

If you can’t tell me what your Domain name is really quick and I can’t go back and Find you super quick, it’s not going to work out, But I imagine that’s hard. At this point in the game, there’s so many domain names Right Like how I imagine it’s pushing us to the longer domain names and lengths, because There’s so many out there Yeah in a way I mean some things to avoid: With your domain name, you wan na make sure that You don’t have hyphens,’cause, that’s just annoying.

Why, Like cool, go to my website, it’s this dash awesome! Dash website dash com – Oh okay, Dash all the dashes right, Yeah Or it having numbers in it like. If I tell you to go, To go to 1coffeeshop.Com, you might type in o-n-e or the number one Oh versus the numeral Or w-o-n. Potentially it gets confusing Yeah Right And attention spans They’re, just getting shorter Right millennials can attest ( laughing ) So with your domain name, those ones that are super short and sweet, they’re brandable They’re, for the most part worth what the cost is, So those couple thousand dollars.

It’s really an investment In your business, and especially if it’s your business name, that.Com was taken, it might be a good idea to Spend a little bit of cash and make sure you get that As we’re taking about domain names. I started to think well, where do I? Where do I go to get this? Where do I go purchase a domain name? Well glad you asked No, So you can go to Any domain registrar like GoDaddy is a domain registrar, which means you can go and Purchase your domain name So, but with domain names you don’t just purchase it once and done.

You actually have to Essentially, lease the domain – It’s still yours, but you Have to renew it every year Now most domains, you buy anywhere from one year to 10 years, but there are some domains. With some restrictions, So you really wan na Check out those options, Wait, why would that be? How come it’s not just Consistent across the board So to kinda go a little bit deeper. There are registrants, Registrars and registries Us purchasing a domain Name, we’re registrants Then registrars like GoDaddy.

They basically are a Vendor supplying domains – and we have registries Which control a.Com So Verisign controls.Com? Then you have other registries that control different domains. There’s that Donuts registry that controls a lot of The new unique ones and they set their own rules so we’re pretty much at Their mercy, if you will Right Okay, so I have another question for you and that is how do you Protect your domain name, I mean: do you need to go and put yourself on the.

Net, the.Com In order to protect it Right, it’s really Protecting your brand, If you just blow up and become this big success, Like I hope you will you wan na get the alternate Endings, the next best That way people aren’t trying To just steal your traffic, or potentially your competitors, Getting that domain name, I’ve seen it happen, they’ll get the.Net and steal your traffic Steal your attention and potentially slander you Cruel It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there, It’s pretty rough, no pun intended And what you can do most registrars like GoDaddy, has an Extra value added service to protect your registrations so it’ll protect it from hijacking protect it.

If you forget To renew your domain, That happens all the time, especially if you buy It for five years out Are you going to remember in five years, Sometimes not credit cards expire. So there’s that added Protection that you can get just to make sure that your Domain is always yours, Alright, that’s a wrap. First, I wan na give a huge shout-out and a thank you to Justin Thanks for having me The king of domains.

If you want more info like that, and you have questions Definitely comment below and be sure to subscribe to. Our blog Thanks see you soon.

4 Ways to Measure Social Media ROI

Also this, I think, determination in small Businesses that they’re like “ There is no way to do this.”, So they love to hear about Roi return on investment. You get asked this too right Right. They end up spending so Much of their time on there, they wan na make sure they’re actually getting something back, Which I totally get right. You’re time is super valuable, you’re doing a million other things and then now social media Is added to your plate? How do you justify the time or the money if you outsource it like GoDaddy Social, You wan na justify that time and money and a way to do that is understand.

Are you getting a return on investment And the good news is there’s a lot of ways to See if you are or not, There’s data analytics metrics, but I’m going to break it. Down into four umbrellas of how to measure ROI, starting with number one brand awareness Cool, how do you Measure brand awareness, So brand awareness can be measured in one way that you’re, probably Already thinking at home, your number of followers How many people are following you More people following you on Twitter, seeing your tweets following you on Instagram Seeing your great photos following you on Facebook and Reading those great captions, The more exposure you have and the more followers you have seeing it that’s brand awareness Perfect And does that count likes and comments, and things like that too Totally So likes comments.

Love shares retweets. That’s just going to help You get in front of not only your followers The awareness there, but your friends and their friends, maybe their family members as well, So the awareness just Spreads like wildfire Spreadin’, the love Spreadin’, the love All right, so digging in On the analytics aspect, It’s easy to see the amount of followers you see the amount of Likes and things like that, is there a step further? We can go to really see the nitty gritty Yeah totally.

So that’s a cool thing. If you have business pages set up, they allow you a clear view of what’s working. What’s not working what time of a day a post works? Well, how many people are seeing It et cetera, et cetera, So with Facebook, you Have your “ Insights” tab And, what’s really cool, is it breaks down a ton of information And they even have a little Information button on each one. So if you’re reading a Metric and it’s like “, I’m not even sure what Engagement rate means.

”, (, laughs, ). You know you click on it. It’ll break down what it is Perfect And Instagram too. You have To make sure you create a or turn your account Into a business profile that way, you can see insights and how many people viewed Your page liked it commented what time of the week you Get the most engagement If you’ve turned your Instagram account into a business page. Let us Know in the comments below Just say, “ I’ve turned It into a business page.

”, So that’s with Instagram Twitter there’s the top tweet. So you can see that in your Twitter analytics as well So go in. There see what Your audience likes, in other words your customers and then have that inform Your strategy moving forward, which will also help you be More efficient with your time and give the customer what they want, Give them what they want, Give them what they want: ( laughs, ) All right, moving on Tip number two: where are we at with that? So tip number two: one Of my personal favorites customer satisfaction And you’re, familiar with This inside your business, whether you have a barbershop Or a car dealership, you can see it on the person’s face that they’re satisfied or not.

I can’t make a frowny face: Aw Darn it I was cuing them up. So one way you can do it. Online with social media is well your reviews. Your customers are going to tell you if they had a poor experience. Or a great experience But make sure you’re Reading those reviews Believe it or not, I still Come across businesses that don’t take the time To read their reviews, I’m like “ Wait. This is a great place “ to see if your customers Are satisfied or not.

” Also what they’re saying when They mention you on Facebook, Right, Especially, you have to Respond good or bad. I know most people will just Respond to the good ones and try to just ignore the bad Ones like they don’t exist, Just give them a response. See if you can make it right, apologize to the situation and move on Totally So again pay attention to What your customers are saying, They’re talking to you online And if you wan na even a Deeper dive into that we have another episode of The Journey on social listening so check it out So cool statistic: I read the other day: actually, a quarter of people who have a positive Experience at a business will go and tell 10 people Both online and offline – That’s pretty awesome.

All right. Tell me What’s tip number three Tip number three is actually Gaining new customers, which is your favorite, I know When I say “ You’re Gaining new customers”, you can picture just dollar Bills in your pocket Make it rain, ( laughs ). So how can you do that with all this social Media and online stuff Couple ways: One: your customers are going to Click on your Google listing for their directions.

I know I do that before Every business I go to because I get lost very easily, But if I’m clicking on the directions, I’m coming to your business and I’m coming to spend Money with intent Also calling Calling you That’s another great way to measure that you’re getting a new customer You’ve already learned. That a lot of customers don’t take the time to call So if they’re calling You they mean business, they are serious about Spending money with you, You got yourself a new customer And so because the Google Listing’s really important Yelp and that “ Click to call” you wan na, make sure I’r sure this obvious that everything is up to date, The right phone number, the right address The hours right.

How many times have you gone to a business? That said it was open, you get there and it’s closed And that’s a bummer Just makes me so sad. So sad, And also besides that, if you have a chance to Speak about your business, maybe “ About You” or add Photos do that as well too and make sure that’s up to date, Maybe you’ve remodeled. Since the last time you had your Yelp photos. Updated or your Google Add that in there spice things up Take some photos, Keep it up to date, so When your customer comes in that new customer, you just gained they’re getting an experience.

That they predicted that they expected Right All right, so we’ve reached The end of our journey, We’re on tip number Four, the very last one: What do you got for us Brand loyalty, Another one you’re familiar With the terminology, but what does it look like online? Well, there’s, don’t worry, It’s not tough math, but well, let’s see how It goes for Justin here All right, engagement rate. How do you measure that? Well, it’s pretty easy.

It’s the number of likes You receive on a post divided by the number of followers times. You guessed it 100 And that’s going to equal Your engagement rate ( mumbles ), Oh no! No! It’s not that hard, So write it down, keep it nearby And when you’re posting Check in do the quick, math And then you’ll determine is that engagement rate Where it should be, And what’s also awesome, About brand loyalty is actually 85 % of customers – 85 %.

I know that’s – almost 100, 85 % of customers will actually Engage with your brand if they’re, loyal daily And when I say, engage they’re going to be liking. What you’re posting commenting sharing on a daily basis And that’s huge That constant, like and That constant, following they’re, going to continue to see their stuff and they’re going to continue. To tell their 10 friends and onward and onward and onward All right, so that’s a wrap.

We just covered four ways to measure ROI when it comes to your social media. Make sure you, like this article, subscribe to the blog and ring that bell. If you Wan na see these articles first, This has been The Journey. Thanks for reading

How to Make a Blog on WordPress

In luck, that’s Actually, what we’re going to cover here today on The Journey All right Alex now with Building your first blog, you really have to figure out what do you actually wan na write about, So my greatest passion is food Eating it Yeah eating it talking about it, seeing it whatever Right on.

So that’s a Good thing to blog about, there are tons of food bloggers out there. Hopefully you’ll get some free food out there. Absolutely I mean that’s what I’m hoping for, but once you figure that out you wan na really figure. Out who your audience is, who do you wan na serve? So is there a type of food That you like to blog about, I would say, probably Just a new up-and-coming restaurants in the area, So your audience is more.

The Trendier people, the foodies, The Millennials The Millennials like us, So that’s super important to figure out what your actual blog is going to be about and who your audience is because you have to be Targeted with your message, If you try to serve everyone, you actually end up serving no one. It’s like trying to boil the ocean, you just can’t. Do it All right. The next thing, To really think about is understanding why you Actually want to start this blog’cause there’s a lot of work involved so Alex.

Why do you want To start this blog Well, I just love to write So it’s a great outlet for some creativity and also just to you, Know try new food options. I dig it. I dig it So now that you have Those questions answered the next part of really starting. Your blog is figuring out what the The name of it is going to be, and the branding Now do you have an idea of What your name is going to be?’cause, I have an idea Yeah.

What do you think I should name my blog, So I already checked the domain name. Alexeatsfood.Com is available. It’s perfect So the blog Alex eats food right. So I think that’s What we’re going to make today So with that name, if you’re struggling on trying to figure out What your own name is, we got a article up here on naming that’ll definitely help you out, But to carry on with that. The next portion of it comes branding.

Your brand is Literally, every single aspect of your blog, That’s the the way you talk on It that’s the images you use the text, the font, literally everything, so you wan na try to keep that consistent. The more consistent you Are with your branding, the more people are easily Able to recognize you right like if you see Like GoDaddy’s color, the green and orange you Instantly think GoDaddy or like the red and yellow Colors, do you think of McDonald’s Mcdonald’s right Alex eats food Alex eats food.

Look at that All right, so the last thing You need to ask yourself before you actually start going: Into building the website is figuring out, do you want just a blog, or do you want a full-on Website with the blog included so Alex, which one do you want, I think I want to keep it Simple, just do the blog for now so that way I can still Focus on all the food eating Right, like super important Yeah So we’re going to go Ahead and show you guys a quick demo, let’s go check it out, All right Alex so we’re About to make your blog here, I’m going to take you through Actually, installing WordPress on a hosting account There’s a difference between wordpress.

Com hosting and Self hosted WordPress Now for most business owners. I would definitely recommend a self hosted WordPress. This is basically you going to a hosting Provider buying hosting and installing WordPress on top of it Sounds like a lot of work. But it’s actually pretty easy to do so check it out. So inside a cPanel most providers Have it you’re going to look for a thing called Installatron? There’s lots of apps to choose from you! Click WordPress Install this application, then it’s going to give you a Lot of different options: We have our domain name, Here, alexeatsfood.

Com directory leave blank you don’t Wan na, like slash something just wanted the domain. You have the username and password here, your Email, you can update that as you need to, And then you click install at the bottom Wow. Okay, easy enough! All right! So you’ve never built a WordPress site before right. Right So brand-new, so the cool Thing about WordPress is that you can access It literally anywhere you want to So where’s kind of your Favorite places to work I like to write on my blog Whenever I’m, you know at home, At home, Yeah Just chilling out Yeah I, like coffee shops, Right And we’re working there So I can access it there, which is cool, so you Go to your domain name and then forward.

Slash WP, dash admin, it’ll be a login screen. I’r Cheating and doing like a little one, click login here inside of cPanel. So now there’s a get started: wizard we’re going to skip past that Just because you may not have that get starting wizard With your hosting provider, so I’ll hit, no thanks, So this is WordPress. It can Seem overwhelming there’s lots of stuff here to choose from, but I think the very first thing that we Need to do is choose a theme for your site.

Okay, So a theme is basically Like how you want your site to look, feel and function, Okay, Are there different things? That I can choose from There are tons, so you go To appearance and themes you have some default ones here I would recommend installing your own [ Alex ], Okay, [ Nealey ], But I’m going to have You kinda choose your own, we’re going to go to the most popular here and we’ll just tell me when I’ll, let you pick whatever one you want [ Alex ].

I like this one [, Nealey ], all right, so [ Alex ] Welcome to Sydney [ Nealey ], we’re going To Sydney, let’s do it so you mouse over, it click install! So then, once it’s installed, You click activate and then you’ve just installed a theme. [ Alex ], Okay, Super simple, all right, so After themes, we want to kind of check out some plugins, so plugins are basically little add-ons to your website.

Okay, So you can literally do Almost anything with the plug-in there’s that old phrase There’s a plug-in for that. We actually made a article On our favorite plugins, You wan na check it out, but I’ll show you how to install a plug-in. It’s pretty much the same. As installing a theme So plugins add new and then It’s going to show you some of the featured plugins here then we’re going to go to Popular I’ll, let you kinda check it out.

So, let’s check out, we Definitely want people to find your website, so We’ll install Yoast SEO here and just like that. We’re Going to click install So once you do install Again same thing activate and then that plug-in is done All right. So that’s installing A plug-in super simple, but let’s get to the real Meat of making your blog and that’s the post. So what do you wan na Make a post right now: Yeah: let’s do it Cool.

So where does a place that you recently ate at, or maybe your Favorite place in Austin: Let’s go with Hopdoddy great burgers, So super simple mouse Over posts and go add new, then we’re going to go to the editor, and this is going to be where you can basically start writing all your content. So how do you spell Hopdoddy? Is it Hop Hit daddy (, laughs, ) I can’t type Hopdoddy Cool Hopdoddy, exactly as it sounds, So you put your title here, you can add all your content.

Look at all this great content content. I’r writing. This is really great content, I’m just the best here all the words Guys, my blog is going to Be a lot better than this Super hot fire all right and then so. This is what was called The Gutenberg editor now it’s just really Called the page editor, You can add all your stuff Here so, as you see, I just started typing there’s this Little plus guy right here and you can add even more content.

So maybe you want to start adding pictures of your restaurant or the Restaurants to eat at rather or the food you eat, you do so here and just add your image and then you can choose from the media library. Okay, I don’t have anything the media library, No Hopdoddy picture, so I’m going to grab just A picture of a burger just for example’s sake when you are at Pexel.Com And just type in burgers see what pops up [ Alex ], And these are All free images right, [, Nealey, ], Yes, these are all free images makes it super helpful, especially If maybe you’re not doing food reviews, but you Have to have the image maybe seen some cool stock photos.

[ Alex ] Yeah, absolutely [, Nealey ]. This all look Delicious and I’m hungry all right, so I’m going to Download this really quick Cool, what’s cool about pexels too, is that these photographers are Giving their photos for free, if you want to support them, you can donate or follow them on Instagram, which is pretty cool. Very cool A little kick back there and then, once you have your image: You’re going to upload it, there then add your alt text, so alt text is basically What Google can read’cause Google can’t Understand when actual images, so we have to tell it so Super awesome, burgers And then select, and then we have our post and then, as you see here, we installed Yoast SEO.

So there’s a little section to update your search engine. Title search engine descriptions all that good Stuff And now last, but not Least, one of the more important things to think about with your post is to have a featured image. Basically, so when you have your site right and it’s not just text You have that little image there to capture it. Okay Make sure you’re on the document. Tab go down to featured Image set featured image and I’m going to be lazy and Just choose the same image: [ Alex ] Burgers all over the place, [ Nealey ], burgers, burgers burgers and then, when you’re done, you can publish or if you say, you’ve created A bunch of content, you don’t want them all published at Once you can actually schedule it right here, [ Alex ], Oh nice, [, Nealey, ], So publish when do you want this to publish [ Alex ] On Friday? [ Nealey ] Friday, all right! So let’s check it out all right.

So obviously the title we’re going to have to update a little bit. ( laughs, ) [ Alex ]. That’s not me! [ Nealey ], But then here’s Here’s, your blog post, so the feature image always shows first and then your content, And then your feature image, you have comment boxes, so your visitors can go and add. Their own two cents or say that is a super awesome burger, I’m just super hungry now, but let’s check out a couple other places on WordPress [ Alex ]; Okay, All right, so I’m going to Show you guys widgets And what exactly do widgets do? Widgets are a WordPress’ best friend, So on your blog post, you saw That there was that sidebar with not a lot of real content, which is kind of default generic stuff.

So if you go to appearances, And then widgets, this is basically all this content you can have on your sidebar and on your footer. Some themes may give you More options for sidebars, especially if you have Woocommerce, you could have the sidebar just for your blog post. You don’t want your blog post Just have like products you wan na have post, but you Want your products to show other related products, things like that.

Got it [ Nealey ], So you can Easily just get rid of stuff, you don’t want by clicking and dragging and then something else To really check out is the the customize tab. Most themes, especially the Free themes will have all the options to really Design and style your site right there, I’m just just Going to give you a quick overview of what this looks like, So this Sydney theme has a ton of options, so I was actually a little surprised.

You can’t have all your stuff Here, it’s your site, title your header area, things like That your homepage settings, so this is super important, so You’re going to have your latest posts show up, So let’s go ahead and go back all right. So let’s check out your website So again just click the my Blog that little shortcut to get to your website [ Alex ] Nice. So why does It say create your menu here in the top right corner, Because we need to Create a new menu here so that menus can be your navigation.

So, like your home links, Your about contact all that good stuff, You either click it there. If You’re on the front of site or if you’re in the Dashboard its appearance and then menus. You can Add your stuff here so it looks like we have Menu already kind of created, we have home and then sample page. I don’t want sample page to Show up so I’m going to go ahead and just remove that And then go ahead and click create menu and once you do you’ll See at the bottom here it shows menu settings So you can auto add pages so, as you add like “, an about” or “ contact” things it’ll automatically come here, so you don’t have to and then Display location primary menu is so it will actually appear up there.

[ Alex ], Okay, [ Nealey ]. So if we go primary, Menu and save and now check out the site, it’ll show home [ Alex ], Okay, [ Nealey ], just like that, then We have your awesome, Hopdoddy post with all this randomness Grand in hello world right there then default post there. So what does it mean when it says uncategorized right there? I almost forgot so Every post has a category, so you could have like burger restaurants or you can have ice cream places whatever you want it to be So by default.

WordPress Doesn’t know what to put so it’s going to have an uncategorized category, so you go to post categories. And then just click quick edit, we’re going to just type in burgers here, make it nice and simple But as you add posts, you can add content here. For categories or inside the post itself, [ Alex ] Okay, so now one of the issues with Having a blog is potentially the amount a spam you might get, there are BOTS out there that Just go out and just basically add just nonsense posts Trying to get links back to their site, So how do I avoid that? So there’s a few things you can do so most of the time WordPress Will come pre-installed with the plug-in called Akismet Anti-Spam? You can sign up and do that.

Otherwise you can do Like a captcha plug-in that make sure that they’re, an Actual person on your website and commenting plugins like Disqus, which is like facebook Login or Twitter login is definitely good to help Prevent some of that stuff too So earlier you showed me That SEO plug-in you know how do I make sure that my Content is going to be seen Yeah, let’s actually check out Yoast. So if you go over to your Page we wan na go back to edit it again, So you can either click Directly on it or click edit here so under Yoast, It’s going to give you a lot of recommendations and Things like that, like again, I have nonsense here.

Just For the sake of this you’re, the writer I’r going to, let you create here Will work the magic later, But it’ll take a little snippet Here for you, so by default it’s going to have title page. Separator and site title so you can get rid of this and do Hopdoddy. My favorite burger place. Review or whatever you want it to be, [ Alex ], Okay, [ Nealey ]. It’s going to give You a little kind of wheel, the more content, the Better see it goes to green [, Alex ] Wow green is good [, Nealey, ], Basically and It’s going to give you a little snippet of how it’s going to Look on search engines.

You want a lot of content. That’s attention-grabbing and has kind of your focus keyword, so your focus key would Really be like Hopdoddy review, you wan na make sure You have that in there And then your Meta Description, Like it says, please provide a meta description by Adding a snippet below, basically it’s a quick little Snippet of what someone’s going to get out of your content, if they read it, you wan na keep It engaging but again make sure you have whatever your Focus word is, for you, it’ll, be a hopdoddy review, so have that somewhere in there as a business owner your page, your post, You’ll wan na make sure that you have some type of focus word for that page, whether it’s a review or An “ about us” or a service and include it in your Description and your title And then you can kind of go Down, there’s SEO analysis.

It’s going to give you a lot of information and you can just Go down the rabbit hole or just clicking all this stuff I’ll leave that for another article. Actually, we did a article on SEO if you wan na check it out right here, [ Alex ] Whoa. So why Does it say not secure there in the top left corner [ Nealey ], Because Technically, it’s not secure, so really I mean it’s Secure, like the information on there is fine, but with WordPress you have that WP dash admin where you log in Right, so it’s not secure! So if you enter in your Username, your password that information is sent over Plaintext on the Internet, So if there’s a man in the Middle attacks someone’s, what’s called sniffing, Captures that information it’s out there super yeah its rough Super important, if you have like a type of shop where you are Taking credit card information or just personal information, So that can be easily fixed.

By getting an SSL certificate, so if you do enter user name, And password it’s sent over the internet so I’ll jumbled up. So even if someone grabs It they have no idea what the heck it means. Okay And then on top of just Really just safety and security. You always want to make Backups, especially with a blog and you’re constantly adding stuff, are you planning to post How many times a week or how many times a month, I’m planning on posting Probably about once a week: Okay, so that’s like 52 posts a year! So if something were To happen to your site, all those posts are gone So make sure you have some Type of backup service, most hosting providers, will Have something for you or you can find something third-party, but it’s always easier to do.

With your hosting provider, since it’s all usually automated But you want to protect all this time invested into this project, make sure it’s just not gone in the blink of an eye. Right All right, so these are Just the basics of building your first blog there again There’s lots of options to kind of go through and make it your own like. We still need to Update the the title, and then it comes with navigation colors things like that at least This has a solid foundation for you to build your first site and then from here it’s Just exploring that’s kind of the fun of WordPress There’s so much to explore, so you can never stop learning Perfect.

Well, thanks for all the help, and let us know in the comments below what articles you guys want to See and be sure, while you’re down there make sure you like the article and subscribe to our blog as well. This is The Journey we’ll see you next time.

How to Use YouTube for Successful Digital Marketing

What’s that, On average YouTube has over 1 billion mobile views a day and on top of that 300 hours worth of article Uploaded in a minute That is incredible, sounds Like a ton of competition, but you can break through, But let’s talk about why Youtube is so important, starting with why we should use YouTube.

Video content is effective, I mean I’m sure you’ve been on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter Whatever you use you’re scrolling along You’re on YouTube right now On YouTube and you’ve caught a article and you get lost in it right. You spend two three 15. 20 Hours, whatever you’re doing The rabbit hole And you’re reading that content, So you already know article is effective, So what’s also cool about YouTube, it helps you build a community And think about it when it Comes to marketing your brand! If you get a large group behind you, that’s sustainable for more success.

Growing, more word-of-mouth! Growing, your business And another thing to keep In mind about YouTube, they are really all about the Subscribe that is key to growing your community, so, while you’re at it go ahead and subscribe to our blog By publishing quality articles really interacting with your followers, it’s really going to foster that community that you were Talking about and make them eager to Wan na share your articles with people that they know And having a loyal audience provides unlimited opportunities to grow and market your products And Emma you talked about mobile in the very beginning.

With that incredible stat YouTube is mobile-friendly. So all those articles look great on mobile And, if you’re not producing Content for that platform, you’re alienating a large population, So I know you’re Asking yourself at home: how do you make money on YouTube? Have you ever heard of the Youtube Partner Program Back in January of 2018 They changed their policy and the policy was all about how you actually can Earn revenue on YouTube Yeah and it’s important to note that you actually have to apply to be a part of this Program and be accepted, So not only is there An application for this, but there’s also a minimum with who is eligible for this as well.

So let’s go through that, Starting with ensuring that you follow the program’s guidelines that you live in a certain country and your blog has over 4,000 public read hours in the last 12 months Also have more than 1,000 subscribers and make sure your account Is linked to Google AdSense, So let’s talk about AdSense and how you can actually Earn money with it So YouTube is a subsidiary of Google and AdSense is a product of Google? That’s how it allows you To make money on YouTube, So these are the ads That pop up on your article, It’s estimated that creators can make anywhere from $ 3 to $ 10 per 1,000 viewer engagements So with some simple math.

If you have 10,000 views on your articles, you can make at least $ 300, Okay, so Nealey. What About YouTube Premium, Because they’re not being shown ads, so if they’re not being shown ads, how is anyone making money Yeah that makes sense? So YouTube actually gives a percentage to those creators based on things like read: Time and viewer engagement, So I would add the Channel Membership feature – and this is a great way to Offer incentives and rewards for people who are tuning In to your blog or becoming a monthly Viewer or subscriber Yeah, it’s just like Patreon.

Basically, So you can also sell products. From your Merchandise Shelf, So if you live in one of The approved countries and have over 10,000 subscribers you can show up to 12 products from your Teespring merch page. Also, I’d recommend enabling The Super Chat function,’cause. What it allows users to do is have their actual Comments pinned to the top, which is pretty cool, Yeah, it’s just like Twitch.

You can also produce sponsored articles Now. What this is is Another brand or company paying you to promote Them on your own article, much like a micro-celebrity Yeah totally and be sure To follow the FTC guidelines and think about your Audience keep them in mind. You don’t wan na just go promotion, crazy,,’cause! Then, if you’re just constantly promoting your content, you’re going to maybe lose That engagement with them So keep them in mind.

They’re Following you for a reason, stick with that, what is it? That they would wan na see What a lot of other Youtubers are doing now on top of all this or, if they don’t even Meet those requirements to join the program, for example, is they’ll, sell their own stuff, They may link off to their own, say, Etsy store or WordPress site or whatever they’re selling Their eCommerce items on and then just promote those So Emma.

If you had your Own YouTube, blog and you were going to sell Something what would that be Jokes, You’re, not getting any money, ( laughs, )! Well, I’m thinking about when you sell on YouTube. I have, for example, a lot of cool vintage pieces, but do you do that on YouTube? Would I showcase the Vintage pieces that I have in a YouTube article and sell it Well for a lot of people, you’re directing them.

Off to another source, Now some people will do That for affiliate marketing – maybe they have affiliates with Amazon and they say “ Cool. Here’s All the equipment I used to create this article,” and link off. Oh, that makes sense. Okay, Or here’s some cool swag of my shirt with my face on it, whatever that looks like For sale, You can use those other revenue, Streams to get that money, So speaking of making money on YouTube, I know I like to think about.

How to make more money so we’re going to talk about Branding marketing and SEO to help you make more money on YouTube Yeah, so getting into Those programs are nice, but you really wan na create a sustainable income and Revenue streams right So let’s talk through a Couple ways to do that: Let’s do it So first off you wan na think about how can you build an engaged following build your audience right And a lot of times I think of first, what’s going to make them unsubscribe just to keep in mind, don’t do That, but also how frequent you should post, I give the same advice with social media.

If you’re only posting Once every three months I’m going to unfollow you There’s nothing there. You got ta, give me something of value. You got ta, keep me tuned in And so think about the frequency and what you’re putting out there when it comes to building your audience, You will also wan na optimize. Your article and your blog, So this is everything From the logo you use that header, you use that trailer, that 30 60 basically ad spot to promote you and your business.

When someone comes to your blog, the titles, you use It’s going to take a lot of research, but it’s definitely worth it because these first impressions last Yeah and it’s so meticulous right. I mean think about how Much time we’ve spent just on the thumbnails, with our articles Too long, Too long I’d also encourage you to think about how to market your brand and your article off of YouTube so cross-promote.

One thing we do is we Take the YouTube articles and we cross-promote them Over to Facebook or Instagram Yeah, we’ll maybe get A condensed version since Instagram takes a minute and says link in the bio Right change the link Links off back to YouTube where they can see the entire article and, if they’re, not a Subscriber they can subscribe, But we would recommend not to put all your eggs in one basket.

So don’t make YouTube your only thing. Remember: MySpace and Vine They’re gone. What happens if YouTube is gone? It’s not likely, but it’s really good to Diversify your attention on all these different Platforms just in case So while these tips Have definitely taught you how to be successful on YouTube. I got ta be honest with you. We have only scratched the surface so be sure to subscribe. To take a deeper dive on YouTube and other platforms, That’s a wrap Like this article.
